"Bowman, who did I just say Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick as your championship for very unlikely group, but then you go to Phoenix and then it's it's game game on you know, but Harvick Joey Logano wage and and it's going to be the low downforce package there which is going to be good to it's going to be entertaining. Let's see what else we got. Matt dibenedetto with the Wood Brothers. He's coming back to the 21, sure that's cool. So happy that that was there when they announced that that was their biggest liked tweet of all time. It was it I don't know there's a part of me that feels so bad though, cuz he knows that month that this possibility he's going to have to have another ride after you know, a lot of it has to do with is what happens at Penske. Yeah. Well because Austin cindric got signed obviously and he's he's going to be fifteen and twenty Twenty-One the the to the 21 Kar well internet the 2022 sorry 2022 and the 21 car. And but that could change because you still Brad Keselowski only signed a one-year deal. So, who knows what's going to happen after that? We don't. We absolutely don't so I mean, I want to see him. I want to see Matt get that hundredth win the Wood Brothers. He's a cool. Would that be in Martinsville? Wouldn't it low mileage? And that would just picked that would be absolutely perfect idea if he could if he could roll off to three wins next year. It'd be fantastic. He has a better shot at home pain with Penske somewhere or at least Landing a quality ride, cuz he's a good dude. He works so hard all social media he works and he he's a hell of a driver hell of a drive or hell of a person great person. I've got to talk to him in person a few times just a great dude and hopefully he he land somewhere mean the influx of Team. You've got the the the Jordan Hamlet Team Stream you had Justin marks coming in with his new team and potentially even more more new blood coming in with the new car that might open up some dog. Just for him to fit in somewhere really quality ride. I really expect Chris Rice to take colic racing. Took up at some point. Did you see their announcement yesterday? I did not it's a teaser. They're going to announce today is going to have nutrients. I'm I have a feeling of full-time ride for for AJ next year. That's what it looked like what's going to happen? So yes see because what's the guy's name that he is the spotter for Clint Bowyer? Oh Bret Griffin. Yeah breaker friend. He he said I got a an announcement. Yeah, you know I supposed to do this. Have you blocked em? Yeah, but I think from what I understand Brett Griffin is the one that brought nutrient really I didn't know that's what I took it. Yeah, cuz he's he's always had the relationship with Elliott Sadler. They sponsored Elliot when Elliot was running his last two races of the year of his career. I should say what else what else happened in Kansas Quinn Huff are Quinn, how how how did I do that job? Wenhao finished 33rd stayed out of trouble Xfinity Series race Brandon Brown my my namesake finished 13th after getting into that crazy. In fact that he was in the middle of alfredo with Anthony Alfredo not his fault not his fault. He was in the middle of it. Just a matter of kind of he was on the bottom and kind of pushed up. Yes. He did. That's it. Don't take much off and just real quick. Yeah, Matt Mills finished 25th out of trouble trucks column Garrett with 24th in the truck series. I think we covered Mall not I'll do better research next time off come winter time. We're going to have we're going to have some different segments. Yeah, come come wintertime cuz you know, we're not going to be racing. Yeah, like we just talked about we have to do more work in the wintertime figure. We got a great show for you. In fact, let's get back to the phone lines. Yep. All right, and let's talk to gray. Let's do it and as promised we're going to go to the phone lines. We're going to talk to our first guest bath. Of the show. This is a good one. I've been wanting him on for quite some time. I've been conversing back and forth with his dad Dwayne and finally got it got it wrapped up and and and it's a it's a good time to talk to him too. Because one week prior. He pulled a double at the roval. So so this going to be a fun interview em yet another great young Talent from the state of Virginia. He's from Colonial Heights, Virginia. He is gray gaulding. Hey, hey doing great doing good, man. Hey, thanks. Thanks for having me on I am really freaking first of all, it's it's nice to talk to you. I haven't talked to you in forever. Yeah, it's been a while. Yeah, definitely has them but yeah, when I heard about the interview, I was like heck yeah man Lo sport sporting guys and it'll be a good good time. We we like to make sure that we definitely do. Well the one thing that we that grades and I know that you know this but our goal here on the race Virginia podcast is to promote the driver's the tracks of all forms of racing here in a state of Virginia. And of course, we are blessed to have a plethora that's a big word for me a plethora of great young drivers like yourself off that thank you. Thank you from the state of Virginia, you know at first at first blush if you if you look at it. Got most folks wouldn't even know because a lot of our Virginia guys live out in Carolina now, so right so, you know, sometimes you don't know but man song are coming across, you know your story and I'm and just is unbelievable. I mean the amount of success that you have had and success at such an early age. Okay talk a little bit about you're racing and how you got to where you are right now. Yeah, no, I yeah, it's pretty it's pretty crazy story, you know, you know looking back on it now, you know seeing where I started and and kind of where I wanted to go and I thought I wanted to be and you know, I mean to put it pretty easy, you know, I grew up like like you guys said Colonial Heights, Virginia is my home town where all my family lives. I had a great great time growing up their birth the motorcycles, you know did a little bit of you know bandolera racing but I was you know, I was driving back to Carolina every weekend race. And when I finally, you know got in the car racing but you know, the thing is I'm just like any kid growing up or or anybody out there that is trying to say something Chase the Dream especially in professional sports, you know, whether it's baseball basketball racing, you know, you name but the odds of you know, a kid being able to actually live it out. I mean, it's almost slim-to-none, you know what I mean, especially coming, you know from a small town like calling the Heights and racing is you know dead. Big in Virginia, but you know the the ne Brown I had to go my family did we just had to make the move and say Hey, you know, this is the way he's on do we rotate the screen so deadly blessed and fortunate that, you know, my career was able to take off at such an early age and get my name out there and just get rides and and getting getting the top love the sport of them. I was nineteen years old. So it's been it's been a great ride so far, but like I said without my family and.

"That's the way he wants to throw around the three. Can get him to. Some time, let's talk about. What happened well, I know we all know what happened to hear it. You WanNa hear from you. What happened I mean whole shot him I almost got him you almost one. Did yeah man you know. Look. The. Simple answer that everybody probably wants to hear is I got beat. All right I can say that that's okay. You know the church they had a the rules. Sets are different on this car but I'm not taking away for bed. Do they've got some They've got those things are fast they mean he's run. Pat Me she power. He's got stevie Jackson ever tuning with them. They're on they're super fast. So not taking anything away from but I will say this that had thing beside us on the same scale with the same rule set on on way and I will bury that thing every day. Let's talk about this. I mean these pro MoD that you drive. By the way, everybody tyler goes it's a lot of folks allow that look like a camera. Awesome Hell. Don't you look? and. You can think they think coming at coming at you looks like a sixty nine Camaro. I know I had one for the things coming up. Right away. The sixty nine body does it it? It did a really good job of making that a as close to do as, and of course, they're stretched wheelbases and things like that. So that's always been cool about pro MoD is is you got wild bodies and stretched in bodies and things like that. You know we've got our classes out there like I that has more stock wheelbase and factory appearing cars. So you know per month always just kind of in that wild. And you know stretched and chopped and this and that. So but the sixty nine in my opinion is very similar to the factory body. You know at least it's recognizable and and I'm just I. Love It. I mean I there's new bodies out there and things like that but I struggle to go that route with a with the pro are because I, I think of the old shoe boxes and Willie's and stuff like that. So Yeah but it's just preference. Tom Out there and we like variety, and that's what's cool about the pro MoD has always from what I've been watching. They have some that have older even older body styles. Dante. There's a lot of like forty one williams. You know the fifty, seven Chevrolet the fifty five. Yeah there's a there's a lot of then you get the new camera body you got the dodge Dr Body like was he museums car? Different, lot of different varieties and stuff. That's what's cool about it is. You're seeing a bunch of different south of near. Fifty nine there just because she probably same reason now in probably one of the most popular cars and sixty nine, right?.

To know that we have, we just added another extended driver that I had no idea was from state of Virginia and not I should to be honest with you I apologize our policies straight up because I should know that. "And I was like, well, that's Kinda cool. Like I'm GonNa be like, well, thank you trade trade foul for one of his members and you know my dad wore number five when he raced motocross and everything and I was, you know what it's like. Can you try and get that number five for me and So. We're able to do that deal with they're. Very cool about it You know obviously I understand why he wanted to be. That in I was like you know. Fennel thin like reason give me. You know five number which is going to send to and he was very cool about it. We're made that swap and I was actually very happy about it. Well, the one. Eight eight they're doing. The one thing about that is that certain numbers look fast. Five looks fast yeah. I. Don't care what you use. It still looks fast. Right so I mean that's a cool number I mean. It's nice to be able to make a number year on because like the eight. Associated With Junior So. It's nice to have a number that you can associate with yourself I. We talk about it all the time. Matt we were trying to add up all the current Virginia drivers and Xfinity Cup, this state has produced. A ton of great drivers. Whether you know and and you're one of them you are part of our race in Virginia, family? Hopefully this won't be the last time we talked to you our job here. is to promote drivers and tracks, and of all kinds like what we're going to be talking drag racing next but it but we talked drag racing interest previously. But but the thing is is that you know we want to make sure that the fans out there understand that Virginia is bad, ASS Straight up bad, ass. Because we have some of the best drivers in the country right here in our state that are competing every week in xfinity and cup and truck. Right. definitely.

Fortunate to have all the opportunities that I got. Growing up. Last year, you got signed fulltime by bj McLeod motorsports to drive the number five. What was that feeling like for you'd I mean? Obviously you're excited but you know and it's kind of a fulfilling a dream. That I'm sure you had as a kid growing up, you know doing modified slate models whatever what was that feeling like when you got that phone call you know since my very first truck race, I've known pee. kind of. "Rough. Stay rough because that's my job. You you go home after these races and your ankle per your feet your knees hurt because so much you have to put so much more traction compound on the racetrack to make the radial tire go down and it completely different than wig because the slick wants to kind of get a little bit a wheel speed and then drive off. So you don't have to use much product. Whereas on radio, it has to just stick tire and then go 'cause ever spend. It loses traction in the ratings over for for that driver. that's a hard concept for a lot of people to pick up and a lot of people struggle with But. It takes a lot of tractor time and a lot of traction compounds and do that. So we try to set our classes where we're not on the racetrack is often and other races, and then we're we're actually trying to put cars under racetrack as quick as we can run a solid program and all of that. But. Really just the relate ability is really fun. The drivers are awesome that that drive these cars they'll they'll pick up your look your kids and let them sit in the cars and you know they they love it but it. I have a buddy of mine that races and he? One of the best in the country in his particular category and. Most kids and parents are. Scared to go up and and talk to people or or Hey, can can my son or daughter sitting your car and you know stuff like that? Him He's like man it makes me mad when people walk by you don't want to say something but they won't say anything. So, so he's really good with with people in a lot of these drivers are like that they they love the fan interaction they love seeing kids smiling and happy and. A lot of I mean I'll bet you half of the the crews have t shirts that they sell and stuff like that and they'll give away half of them. That they don't care I it all in fun and getting the theater kids smile getting. A teenager come out here that just got out of high school or in college and. To, see these cars and think and think man I'd like to do this one day or or just getting to have a good time and then they walk out of here with a free t shirt just because of the racer gave them. And that what kind of people that discount rate has and performances will be second to none. You'll never see another show like this in this area until we bring it back week well, the comp cams.

"And then kind of one of our slower. Middle of the pack classes and then then a fast class and the lower class, and we kind of do that throughout the event to kind of try to keep that fan engaged. Yeah And it it's bad to say this. But it at district, we have a class that run five, Oh five Oh over five zero three is the record in the class act the anybody's ever gone. Well, that's the slowest cars we have on A. And it like. For for a Motor Sports. Like five seconds. That's pretty fast and it runs on an eight and a half entire. It's like man that's impressive. But for a band that they are watching pro MoD radio versus the world to seventy five. Doesn't have three is the first number on the they're going to blow. Why are we watch? Yeah because I. Could like as and this is what happened with me when I when I first started at route sixty, six raceway to as fifteen. Nhra weekend was my first weekend and guess what I? Guess. Like, I showed up on Monday from my first day work. It was fraud and qualifying on that Friday. And So, and guess what I knew about Nhra I knew. I knew John Force drove a funny car. that. Was it. So, but you left you left Friday I. I got bad job of the world. You Damn right I my first. My first newt full of NITRO. Man. I will never forget it my my point is. As a fan who knew nothing about it, but it was still coming to the race to enjoy it like that's like eat if you don't know anything about it the only thing then you're coming for is that feeling of speed to. Race Fan. And I'll tell you this tyler. The first time I ever went well out of can't say that my dad used to drag race. But it was overseas. And it was always on a runway for an airplane at airport because he was in the military but the first time. I. Experienced. Nhra was VM P.. and. They asked me to come I had a live show. They asked me to come for the the the do a show on Sunday morning like. I normally did. So I did it and man I'm the drivers are awesome Iran caps and all those guys were just. Phenomenal and to be able to have John Sitting next to you. And heating care man he was like he was all four men he was dating it and then. After that was goes I went up on the roof I was had my back turned. And The funny cars were out there. And I had never experienced that before and when they left the line, it's I. I must jump ten feet in the air it. Literally I'm like Oh my God and then the guy goes you ain't seen nothing yet so. Top fuel dragsters takes me down to the tree. "Two layer people can say I want to buy tickets shakedown. And in March and it's not till September. Well. Then that darn you have they have their ticket. Email folder with don our system. In case they lose the male or loose paper or whatever it is in our system, I'll have to walk up and we can search their name and boom. You're in. I think that's a positive I I think that grows the sport whether it. RAN track dirt track mud bog. Drag. Strip. motorsports in general. I. Think that grows the sport to be able to have tickets accessible any town from that a race ban come up with an added income or extra that they weren't expecting that. Now they can use that to go to the racetrack. I don't think there's a negative in that at all. And to it. Obviously gives you all opportunities to streamline the ingress process to like. If if you don't have a line of people waiting out the door to to buy tickets when they're there. And they do this online process and they show up, they go beep in there in the door they're more likely to come back because it was just a easy way of getting in and out. One hundred percent but thing was operations of and we've all done it but. We all walked up and went may look at the line to sit here and wait for. And By, the time you get up to the ticket booth before little girl in there doing her job. You're so mad when you get there, it's like twenty dollars with twenty dollars when I bought the ticket when I decided to leave the house band at twenty dollars to line. We've all done it. Yeah. It's just that extra that extra little bit of stress that extra pain point of doing it, and if you have this online process that people get used to I mean it's it is just enjoy. It's psychology know just positive reinforcement for the fans. If they have a really good easy time, I tell people this all the time like when we're promoting races and trying to. Sell tickets at Richmond Rex with the easier the easier it is and the happier the person is going through that process the more likely they're going by the more likely you're going to buy more and more likely they're gonNA come back. Exactly and that's the let's be honest if. There are so many. To do something on a Friday or Saturday night these. Go Top call you can go to the racetrack you can go ride around in your out. I mean there's so there's so many options of. Things to do I. Guess you would say. that. If your operations are difficult Nitsa and it's it's just a pain to buy the tickets and get in the door. "At a very competitive car, a lot of a lottery that it was a fun time ended up selling that car, and now we now were all all full board the promotion and track games can't play too much anymore. For for you and this event. Kinda let everybody know what they can expect from this I mean. I'm looking at some of the cars. Especially, the Promo codes man this things are bad, ass. and. Just to see those cars would be worth the the price of admission. One. Hundred percent the prologue that really is your knowledgeable known of class that beating on the door two, three fifteen. And a ton of run running the three fifty. At over two hundred miles per hour on the eight mile. But then a lot of people on some of the common knowledge agrees fan don't have knowledge of radio versus the world. it is actually a radial tire. That measures in about eleven, inches, and with eleven to twelve inches in with and. They have the same power plants is. promonk close to the same weight the moment were left. Some of them are more and you'll see those or running the three fifty actually last year they were the fastest cars we had. We set the national record in radio versus the world last year. Bet. Going three, fifty, seven with an actress car. I think I remembered I remember seeing that because it ended up in the Weirdo. Yes. Yeah, and we we're actually the only rate on the planet right now that will put Promo Code and radio worse the world beside each other and raise them side-by-side shootout. And we do that on Friday night with with Judgment Day. And that's the deal where basically the top eight qualifiers in Promo Code and the topic qualifiers regulars the world will. The WHO they get to run and whichever team win with him doubt about. That reminds me as a fan as a drag drag racing novice of the NRA versus MCA Super Bowl, how they how they do those guys up and at the end of that event do kind of the same thing. Yeah. Exactly. you run out and go for the reins of at epidemic ta deal and which we I helped on a car that's running that the very, very often program that they do. Over on that side but this deal is really cool because You have guys that. Will race against each other that never ever have lined up with. Each Other I. I'm really good friends with a lot of the radio guys I've been in this market for ten years. And those guys have never raced with Tommy Franklin. John Strickland. Like and it's really cool because. You get to see you think all the time man I wonder what Jaycox do beside. Marcus bird or Stevie Jackson or or anything like that, and you actually get to see that play out. And it was crazy because we all joked around last year saying man wouldn't it be cool to see Marcus Berg Tommy Franklin, run each other in this deal because they were both nitrous cars they were both number one qualifier. You know the to back yet property who wouldn't want to see that rick absolutely and And we're sitting here joking around going well, you know what's the fate in that? Will. They all draw kit?.

Believe it is comp Cams shakedown nationals presented by Fuel Tech Look We gotta remember. We did have to read the Roman numeral a couple of times to decipher it, but we think we got it. Big Big event to to say the least this weekend. Some rarely story, some really good talent going to be there. Of course, your very historic rate. This rate actually started in. New Jersey at English town. Old. Bridge Township Raceway Park detente created this event. From the START was the promoter for ten years and Had some hasn't come up he was ready to bow out. So he he passed through over to bill, Bater at Summit motorsports park in the work of Norwalk Ohio. and Bill had it for five or six years. and. Then we picked it up last year when bill was ready to pass the torch on. So so this is our second shot at it Elena event is known for setting world records and and being awesome event I actually. Went and raced this event three years ago at Norwalk. and. I went in Ultra Street with with my old body up there and and actually run it up and miss the miss the shakedown trophy at Norwalk by like point. Three. See this one that I wish I could have back. See. This is something we didn't talk about the first time we talked to you I had no idea. You had a racing background as as a racer. Started rack everything when I was fifteen. And then All right. I didn't do any good bracket or anything we don't talk about that. A couple of years ago I built the Ultra Street Fox Body ran ran that Klaff to seventy five. "Am Brandon Brown most definitely especially this weekend not the NASCAR driver. Hey. But you know what? Forty three points above the line yeah. One race to go and would that be nice. To get to get that hometown Fredericksburg team into the NASCAR playoffs and the expanded series speaking of xfinity series. Man, what a weekend I know. You know I've I've done it before. So I know you're burned out you know what? You're probably not. Probably not as much as you normally would be because in a non cove it. Yeah. Situation you would have done more stuff yourself in the infield and stuff like that. Yup, absolutely. So we had we had NASCAR playoffs weakened Richmond raceway this past weekend a four races in three days, which sounds really daunting My Responsibility. is going around and creating content the entire weekend talking to fans you know getting their perspectives showcasing everything on social media. Half of the weekend was just not there just because there's no practice, there is no qualifying. There are no fans know anything except for on-track action during the four races and the majority of stuff that you were able to do was actually from the outside yet. How the PEOP- The employees at this track and I know. They're doing nascar doing a great job. Yes. They are with the covid nineteen? Protocol. But the employees of the racetrack which NASCAR owns. Can't get in the Infield just blows I mean it's not because I mean you have. To get more in last Tuesday prime example when we did the show. I had to go through Covid nineteen protocol certainly did Sir signed a lot of paperwork If if you go through that protocol and you had to do it every day yes. I did get to do it every day. I don't understand why can go in the Infield that just blows them I know what they're trying to do they're trying to. Limit the contact yup of everybody. But the problem is, is that like you? You would be doing stuff from probably farther than six feet. So here. Here's why and I'll give you I'll give you a couple a couple of good examples of why I had actually had an infield stick that I didn't know about the first day. So I got I did not go the Infield the first day, and even when I did go into the Infield, they were very strict on who goes in and when run in what's going on everything. So if you had certain people go into the Infield, who weren't quote unquote essential and had nothing to do. It. Raise, the PA raised the possibility of them, going up and talking to team members and talking to drivers that they might not should have been doing and the drivers themselves are on especially big lockdown compared to what the teams are. So we didn't want to you know, and again ask has done a great job we to eliminate people who are you know work here in Richmond to infiltrate the many bubbles that each of the teams had with their with their. Teams and drivers, and members, and all that good stuff. But a great weekend racing after figured out, you know the lay of the land in what I couldn't couldn't do. It was really you know we stayed social distance the they had the great plan in place, and then we saw some awesome racing with the trucks to community series races and then the Cup series race. We had domination in on on Saturday..

"I don't even have words to really put to that to that to that feeling because my best friend was on their Jason workman met him teen to Matt mills and robberies. I mean, I could just go along, and there's so many so many awesome guys on there. But like warp, and that was my best friend like he was my best, buddy. And if socked me it was like shit and just the the families and just how many families are affected by this. These great warriors. And I'm like, okay. Maybe there's still hope maybe they're maybe they're still some alive. They're still some alive. And we tried to go go get the bodies in our CEO's like you're not going like, what do you mean? What fucking fucking going like, are you kidding me? That's guys. And I understand his thought process now is like he didn't want us to see our guys charred, and whatever I've heard the stories after from some ranger buddies that went actually. Took care of that cleanup of clue that mess is probably good that we didn't get to see that. Because the ending as you know, there's images are just in graded your mind, but I was set to come back to be back for the kids like a few weeks later or something like that. And then Jason's workman's family Stacy his widow asked me to bring his body back. And of course, I'll just come back early. So I came back with Jason. And I remember you see those pictures of like a dog kind of sit next to the casket. They just lost their owner that was kind of like new Jason. I was like I would like, you know, growing the C seventeen back. He's got these metal caskets. We got I can't remember how many caskets there because there was extra body parts. And there was four or five of us came back with the with the with the bodies in. Talk about a frigging experience man, just like being with your your buddies or in there, you kind of want to see him. But you don't wanna see them. I just remember laying next to us casks, which was his major. I find found out and I was with his body for. Two and a half weeks because we had to find a Dover. I had a time to go down to my house can get things get my like, my blues all that stuff because I was going to take the the angel flights to Utah to his family and my girlfriend at the time flew in all her for like a day back up to Dover suit up there. And then we took the angel flight and had a drop off another dead body in like, Missouri or something from an army guy..
