"Obviously they can remain in the NBA draft if they want to, but I don't think either is a first round draft pick. And I think there's a world where they benefit financially more from returning to college basketball. And that's why I suspect that they will. As always, we'll see. But at this point, I'm operating under the belief, Yukon's gonna return 5 of the top 6 scores from the team that won the national championship and be the pre season number one. And even if they did lose a no go, you just slide clinging straight in there as you're starting center. I know. According to Sam, that's a first round prospect who's going to be a second year player. As you're starting center, I think you can probably still preseason number one, even if they were to loosen up. I think that's probably the case and they got a really good freshman class coming in. We'll be super interesting to see how Hurley in that program and inherit a lot of success and a lot of attention and head into next season. This will be conversations for certainly the preseason. Hard to see how Yukon would be UNC a year later. He didn't win a national championship, but it was pre season number one after a final four run. A few other names though, you mentioned Chris at a West Virginia. That'll be super interesting, Chris still going across the country to play for huggins. Baldwin Penn State, that's a good, it's not surprising I am frankly expecting these Baldwin to follow Mike Ross at Penn State, but it gives Penn State again, Pickett went from Sienna to play for Mike at Penn State. Baldwin's not the same kind of player, but I can see him being nearly as important to Penn State as Pickett was. Jalen cook from two lane to LSU. I actually think it's a major, major one for Matt McMahon, didn't want to let that two major ones I think will have a real impact on wind totals next season. I'm not saying these teams are making the tournament, but I'm saying that these players might prevent these teams from being bottom two bottom three in their respective leagues. I think Jalen cook going to play for LSU is big. I think far dos amac returning to play from Mark mattson at Cal, we will, by the way, have a coaching carousel roundup episode coming for you soon enough. We'll get to every high major stuff. That's a different episode. That's not this one. But mattson is now a cow, far dos, and a Mac, who had really, and this is inevitable. GP, as you well know, these guys are going to the portal, you know, we're going 2000 names into this thing. And it's never been there's ever been more relevant players like you and I were on the same page on this as recently as three years ago. We thought the guys that are transferring there's really 5 to ten that actually really matter. Now there's like legitimate names like really, really productive players and there's more than ever. But inevitably there will just be some guys that don't work out. I mean, a lot of these players in some way and this is an a max specifically, but they're one and dones, but not one and done to the NBA. They're one and dones going and done at one school and going into the portal and trying something else. Some will work some will not. I think a Mac going to return to play for mats and they had a really good relationship. Trip to Texas tech, he also had injury. It was just, I don't want to call disaster, just didn't work out well. I think cook and amac or big ones. I think the three biggest headline ones, though, are Caleb loved in Michigan. Prior to Houston, which is fascinating, and then tremond marked to Arkansas. A lot of the Houston stuff, like, you know, Houston was really, really good and then Mark wants to, and I don't fault him. You know, I wanted to bring up the fact that I know you had to have seen it, right? I'm going to read, I'm going to read the tweet aloud here. Greg McDermott from a couple of days ago. Did you see, of course? That's right. And that was obviously in response to losing nimh Hart. Yes. To the transfer portal. And I thought Greg said every coach should understand, like you're going to benefit from the transfer portal. You're going to get bitten by the transfer portal. I'll let you read his words. Here's what he said. This is after Ryan, who we need to talk to talk about as well. He said the transfer portal works both ways. We enjoyed many players that have come from other schools. All of the young men that have decided to move on have made huge contributions to our program. I wish them all the best as they continue their journey. I hope you will do the same. This is like coaches are entirely entitled to privately and publicly show frustration, anger, regret, laments, whatever. But that's gonna come within that comes with the paycheck that's now part of the job. Obviously, so many of those coaches, if not all of those coaches are also going to benefit in the same exact ways when they get transfers in. I would just say not having a stake in this as a coach and it's not my problem to worry about. It's our problem, our duty to document talk about right about all the stuff. That what McDermott's done here, I think is pretty much the way that he's setting the example that needs to be paved going forward. Now, if a coach wants to bitch publicly about losing a transfer and makes her a juicy quote, we're not saying no to that. All right, because it's fun to talk about. And frankly, I wish more coaches would go public with the stuff they privately sometimes gripe about, but that being said, this is the way that it is. Sometimes, not sometimes. The reasons that guys will transfer, there are many different ones. Obviously, and I was at the heart of it. Can I get more money? Can I get more playing time? But there might be other factors at play that you might not be aware of. And the fact that you had a guy come into your program play for one, two, three, maybe even four years, moving on to a different situation.

"It makes good plays off the bounce, but I prefer him for a little bit more time. For coach K, it's changing the guard. It's weird. I don't remember, nor should I. I'm not that old. I don't remember duke anything other than coach gay. Mike szarzewski and everybody else around him and I was built up a staff with former players and the brotherhood, so it's definitely going to be different. It's like a lot of places are kind of becoming that. And Hubert Davis bounced back pretty quickly with the Carolina roster after Roy Williams stepped down and called it a career and John Charles very good coach. He's got a very good recruiting class coming in. So I give him the benefit of the doubt that he's going to keep that thing on the right direction too. I think this is going to be fine. What's the takeaway? I think shyer is going to be really good. Look, I don't mean this like totally disrespectfully decay, but you talk to other ACC coaches over the last 5 years and they felt like what duke was doing was not exactly modern nor complicated in terms of coaching and in terms of what they were running in terms of sets they were running in terms of anything that the coaching staff was responsible for in terms of putting these players in position to succeed. So let's say he's doing a bad job because there's way more to coaching than X's and O's Keaton guy's motivated. He can guide us together. Those are things that coach K is great at. But in terms of the X's and O's of basketball, I do wonder if getting a more modern mind in there could be like a breath of fresh air for duke basketball and some regard. Obviously the recruiting has not dropped off at all. It's sort of a sort of improved with shockingly so. Seeing the history of recruiting that John Charles had there in Nolan Smith, who just left to go to Louisville. But it didn't take this enormous dip down where it's like, oh my gosh, they don't have a top 20 kid. No, they have one through four class and you allude to it in 2023. They might have two more of those guys committing like within a week. So they're fine. It covers not there. He's not walking away. It's not the Matt McMahon rebuilt LSU like, hey, will it's fired in every single guy's leaving? Good luck feeling 13 spots, like they're okay. A kid didn't decommit or transfer because Mike krzyzewski was stepping down. Right. Like if duke gets back, Trevor keels and Jeremy roach next year, that team has a real case to be the number one team in the country. They have Derek Whitehead, they have Kyle Phillips, they have Derek lively coming in. You can hopefully fill with a couple of transfers. That is a loaded loaded starting 5. That is an incredible starting 5, essentially. For a college basketball team. So I don't know. I feel like they're not going to miss much of a beat. Like maybe this is me just having faith in John Shire to some extent. I think that until we see otherwise, I'm not sure why we would think it would be much of a coaching downgrade in terms of X's and O's. And in terms of recruiting at the very.

"So Cesar below. You gave four seats. Me sees her below. I gave one to two C++ in a sea. You were the tougher grader today. Yeah, I mean, I would expect nothing less. You're soft, so. Wow. This is like the surprise of the century. It's not. It's not that. And plus C isn't bad. I mean, it's like we're giving up D's and F's around here. I don't think there were any bad bad hires. I don't think you could say that. There's some fits that you would question. That would be a better yes. I think all these guys were kind of deserving. I just don't know again in the SEC. My seeds were all in the SEC. McMahon, golden Lamont Paris. We're all guys that I just don't know are built. The minnows. That's the main takeaway of today. Yeah, that's the tweet is a sharks in the minnows. And right now, Todd golden, Matt McMahon, Lamont Paris. You're a minnow. You're all minis. We got that. All right. Before we go, and we'll do it next week. When we actually see each other for the well, we saw each other recently. We've seen each other a couple of times. Yeah, I got you a show cocktail, what the hell are you talking about? That's true. I went above and beyond for this podcast. You did. You actually did. It was a little warm. But it still was good. Yeah, okay. You bring the ice. I don't have any device. I got the food. I went back to the hotel. And they didn't have any ice, so they don't have ice down the hallway, don't you know how to get your own damn ice? Dude, I had a game that night. I wasn't worried about delivering you a chilled shrimp cocktail. You're like, you're like urban Meyer. You're demanding so much of me threatening me with being fired..

"Again, the good part of it, I'm kind of a believer in fit a lot of times that sometimes it backfires, like NATO's at Alabama, not a fit. I don't know if it will work out. Well, Greg burn proved me wrong on that one. But I like Kevin Willard because he's already recruited the northeast. He's already got recruiting ties. That's not as big a deal with the transfer portal anymore, but even with a bounce back guys in the portal. It helps to have already maybe recruited some of those guys. All right, let's go, a bunch of SEC ones. Let's start with, I thought the highest upside SEC one, but one that they were going to have a hard time getting somebody big because they might have a two year postseason ban after chuck and ties with good old Willy wade over there. And that is LSU hiring Murray state head coach Matt McMahon. I don't love it. I gotta say, and I like Matt McMahon again, but not in the SEC, not at LSU. Trent Johnson went to LSU and tried to play it straight and plan it straight. No cheating. And it didn't work out. Matt McMahon's gonna go down LSU and try and play it straight and no cheating. And I'm just afraid the same thing is going to happen at the end of the day. Like we'll wade. Look at what he did. He racked up like 42 level ones. Like, the way you win down there. 42. So when you win down there, he's got 42 level ones. I don't know. That might be selling it short. He might have more than that. He might have 50 might have 50 level ones. I don't know. But I mean, listen to the ton of success, but I look at it as Murray state is one of the best mid major jobs in all of college basketball, you know? It's like, I think dating is similar where it kind of whoever is there wins..

"Kenny Payne at Louisville. Former Kentucky assistant, former Louisville player, has been with the Knicks and with his boy Leon rose and world wide west the last couple of years, the most intriguing part for me is going to be who does world wide west side with now. John caliper Kenny Payne. Yeah. But that's a little bit. That's a side note. Kenny Payne, what do you think? Yeah. I mean, by all accounts, an incredible player development guy, big time recruiter, what they had 5 number one classes at Kentucky when he was the assistant there. He's got relationships with Carl Anthony towns, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Willie cauley Stein. I mean, I would say a I don't see how it's not an a he's a former player. He brings together, I think, past and president Louisville at a high level. I think that this is a great hire for Louisville. Yeah, it's funny. People thought I was hammering the higher when I said, you know, Louisville tried for some big boys and they couldn't get them and ended up with Kenny Payne. I wasn't saying I didn't like the hire. I was just saying, that was the reality of the situation. And the reality of a lot of these jobs that you're gonna swing at Scott drew. Well, he's not going. Scotty is not leaving anywhere, right? Waco for anywhere right now, but no proven coach. Scott drew Mick cronin, whoever is going to go to a place that there's no permanent AD, there's no president and they still might be another year postseason ban. So you were going to get a guy like Kenny Payne. You're going to get a mid major head coach or a guy like Kenny Payne that, frankly, I always said would have walked from Madison Square Garden to the yum center for this job. I don't think the interim AD really was dead set on Kenny Payne early. I think he wanted to get a big name. And then when he realized he couldn't, my take was, you can't hire Kenny Payne over Matt McMahon. I mean, you can't hire Matt McMahon over Kenny Payne. You obviously all the former players want a Kenny pan. Kenny Payne is a awesome, awesome dude. Again, what I'll say is it's going to be interesting now because you're going out instead of being with John calipari and selling John caliper in Kentucky,.
