just really slow Globally it's been tough We've been challenged with the cork for our coast stoppers and bottles You know trying to get access to life Yeah exactly Or just even getting a container to transport our whisky across from the UK So yeah it's been challenging What changes did you have to make as a result of these challenges did you have to raise prices if you have to change materials or just be patient I think that is pretty much yeah You know people were waiting for our next release We released last year and then this is our biggest release We wanted it to be out in time for us to see the holiday season But it's finally here We're actually only delayed a couple of weeks We're pretty fortunate How much fun are you having with this And tell us about taking it around and introducing it to people Yeah so I'm really proud Obviously self financed self realized design day everything every aspect of finance You've strapped it all Yeah yeah so we haven't any investors We've done it all ourselves And as I said yes our second round we've won about 7 double gold medals from various awards I'm just really proud of it It's my baby Can you talk about why you bootstrapped it and chose not to bring on outside investors Did you not want to dilute the equity I think so you know I mean firstly it is a small limited batch release You know it's hard to get our hands on enough of the product So we didn't need finance The first but then also just to retain to retain the rights to retain the majority share or control of it And as I said it is a passion project So I really didn't want to give anything away There may be a time when we do look at people looking at the door Yes we have a conversation and there will be a point where we want to really upscale and increase And I think at that point investment would really help us 'cause it's interesting in the marketplace You know it's a crowded marketplace But when you can create a brand that somehow has some interesting distinction to it And I think this one is safe to say it does also taste good You can really move ahead What's the been the response that you're hearing And as you were meeting with people in New York and elsewhere Yeah well so we're now available in I think about 40 states We're working on the rest of them and we're working on Canada as well And Europe it's a whisky that I wanted people to be accessible A lot of people don't haven't tried whisky I don't know much about scotch whisky.

Columbia law school Martin thank you so much for joining us Thank you for the opportunity of speaking with both of you Martin why would the baseball order the teams to take down images of players during this Lockhart for instance Bryce Harper was the MVP the national league is a big banner at Citizens Bank ballpark and they were ordered to take it down Basically eliminating all name image and likeness With ownership gain an advantage by keeping his image up on the ballpark To me that can cut both ways Mike By taking down the image they're preventing Bryce Harper from realizing any licensing fees or other types of revenues he may gain from promoting his name image or likeness But it also affects the team which is trying to do that and ostensibly has a deal with Bryce Harper to license his name image and likeness What I don't understand is the whole hang up about sponsorships I don't understand how that can be infected and how that is shut down So that's another great question Professional athletes have a limited life in the sand that they play They can excel for a period of time but eventually age creeps up And they're no longer as viable as stars or viable as professional athletes So they seek to monetize their right as early as they can for as much as they can And by telling sponsors hey we're not going to permit the licensing to go forward You're taking a deep cut into a player's ability to monetize his name image and likeness With the result that they're trying to economic tool to try to force the players to come back to the bargaining table on terms favorable to the owners Martin the free agency I think is probably the number one sticking point here the 6 years or 5 should there be a work stoppage is there always a concession that time loss can be credited to a player for instance if he's hit 5 and a half years in and they don't start playing until August of next year That's going to be a subject of intense bargaining whether or not they should credit the player back You remember back to 2015 with Chris Bryant Yes And of course the cubs did not let Bryant go to the major lease I think it was until the second month of the season and therefore they didn't under the existing rules The cubs did not have to credit Bryant with that particular year That's being a credit towards the free agency time period Brian arbitrated that issue and lost So instead of being a 6 year term it became a 7 year term for Bryant And here too if the work stoppage well the lockout continues into the year and then there's no time made up and that's not the subject of bargaining that comes out favorable to the players The players may lose some players who would otherwise be eligible for the full year credit towards free agency may find that they're not getting that credit Baseball commissioner rob Manfred said that he believes that an off season lockouts the best mechanism to protect the 2022 season and they hope that the lockout will jump start the negotiations Do you agree with that Martin No A lockout is a very serious economic tactic It's perfectly permissible under the national labor relations act Just like a strike is perfectly permissible under the national labor relations act But you look at what happened they had a 7 minute session That didn't bode well for future discussions And the question really becomes how interested is each party in coming back to the table and on what terms Yeah I was supposed to be 9 hours and it wound up being just 7 minutes Right right So as you probably know pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report around February 15 and exhibition games are scheduled to commence February 26 Given the holiday schedule that's really just around the corner Will the party's comeback to bargain in earnest Will they be able to complete what are going to be complex negotiations before that time is really up in the air Yes there is an advantage to starting during the off season That's probably one of the reasons that the collective bargaining agreement expired during the off season But there's no guarantee that they'll be able to complete these complex negotiations in two and a half months collective bargaining agreement that they think they're going to bring it across the finish line Taking a hard line position saying we're not going to reopen our doors And get rid of the lockout until we have a sign collective bargaining agreement sounds inflexible and I think is designed to send a very strong message to the players union that you better become more flexible on your demands What's different to me when you talk about the four major food groups in sports baseball football basketball hockey especially in the NBA Adam silver has what appears to be a great relationship with the union and the players on the other side of the coin rob Manfred has let's call it maybe a strain relationship with the union And I'll put it that way Is that a fair assessment and what can both sides do here to try to change that So from everything I've read in the press yes I think that's very fair assessment And remember that rob Manfred's background is that he came to Major League Baseball and he was a principal negotiator of prior collective bargaining agreements for Major League Baseball As commissioner now he represents 30 owners And he has to take into account not only what is in the best interest.

that's it Those were the analytics that you had And now today you have so many data services providing this for fantasy sports players it is totally changed today What do you think about it Well it's definitely changed the game It's not going anywhere I mean we got a saying at the network You don't understand analytics You're going to be out of the game real quick So it's a different language I do see when I first came in there was a lot of confusion and a lot of fight It's been a little overbearing I think at times I think there's a little bit too much The games look like simpler than they try to make it Nothing irritates me more than watching a player looking at his hat and see where to stand when you play the guy 20 times I think you know where he's going to hit the ball So things like that drive me nuts Like the Kevin Caremark play right We need to slit in They took the card and everybody lost their minds I'm like they played 18 times Okay I don't know what he can have on that card that they don't already know But so I think there's a little bit over But analytics has done They've done a great job of being an identifier telling you what weaknesses are what needs to be worked on and things like that That's your man I think is we've gotten rid of the problem solvers It's one thing to have a guy tell you hey Harold you're chasing the ball Your chase rate is terrible You're chasing this many pitches out of the zone But can't sit there and tell you how to fix it No solutions yeah Got to have somebody who can fix it for you And so I think we're starting now to bring back a lot more baseball instructors baseball people that make sense of the numbers and I think the game's really starting to turn and the skin better because of all I got to ask you about the length of the games I'm a hockey fan and an average hockey game is about two hours 20 minutes The NFL there's not a lot of action There's a lot of people huddling and very exciting meetings or not That's about three hours 12 minutes The NBA is really fast Two hours 11 minutes The MLB three hours and ten minutes and that's not a good day it feels like I mean if you have a playoff game that begins at 8 O 7 first pitch how do you get people to watch knowing that the ending won't come until probably after 11 p.m. on the east coast when the kids need to go to bed Well it's a challenge no doubt about it but I think the answer is in the excitement of the game If the ball is in play and there's activity then it goes by right And people are engaged in it When baseball runs into problems is ball one ball two ball three ball four Walk next batter foul ball and full count you forgot the meeting the meeting on the mound Before you know it the ball has not been in play in 5 minutes You know that's the challenge There's no action So I think if there's action and things happening nobody's reward about the three hours But if not then it's a problem And then the other thing I hope we look into that baseball It's starting to gain a little bit earlier You know because I mean we're losing a younger generation who can't stay up and watch ends of games You know as a kid who grew up on the West Coast you know one of my favorite things was to watch a World Series game and it might be at 9 a.m. eastern and 9 a.m. Pacific and it started at noon eastern And I watched the whole game So now we're starting games later for prime time and advertisement I get it But I think it's difficult for kids to be able to stay up And we got to figure out that puzzle to reach that next generation So Harold what drives me crazy too I played the high school I played college baseball the meeting on the mound Can they just can you imagine every time if Tom Brady through three and complete passes that Bill Belichick called timeout went out to the huddle and talked to him for two or three minutes and then the referee came out So that's enough Bill Let's go And then he threw three more in completion and they went out and visited him again Why can't they be just the way you signal third base coach or the catcher you know what signs you want Can't you do the same thing to the pitcher from the dugout Can we eliminate this team meeting at the mound I might save ten or 15 minutes per game Or add VR to it Add some technology to it and make it more interesting and exciting Irritation the picture Was
