"If The general manager Ryan Pace, and Matt Maggie might have been out of jobs had they not 13 of their last four in the regular season to get into the playoffs. Don't know if that was good for them a bad for them. 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. Evan is in Florida. Welcome to after hours. Amy Luminous. Wow. What a great What a great opportunity to be in your presence on the telephone. How were you? First and foremost your insurance? Absolutely fantastic. Thank you, sir. I'm good. All right, I buttered you up enough. I have to questions and, uh, two of two statements in the question. Um, the number one statement is a legit legit statement. The other one's a little bit more of a conspiracy theory. The first one is with Cam Newton. He lost the last seven games. I believe this season and 20, maybe 17 and going into 2019. Whatever it is. He lost the last the last of his time with the Panthers. He lost nine games in a row before he was replaced. And it we're looking at Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger seems to be headed towards the same type of trajectory of if he even gets the chance to lose nine games, because right now, I believe it's like I've I mean, and the other thing is, is the state's game and I want to hear your take on that, obviously, and then the same game. That touched them at the end of the game. That was those Jimmy Graham. They didn't kick the extra point and for people that were betting on that game That on that point spread was from 10 to 11. And they kicked that extra point. We're talking about a push. So that was a very potentially expensive extra point. And we please actually produce about that. I have to hang up and just put me on mute so I could listen to you. Yeah, I'm sure he can hear you. Thanks, Evan for the phone call s so I don't know anything about betting line, So I'll leave that to you. Um, but But I will say this about about what you started with, which was quarterback wins and losses. I actually hate that stat. I think it's ridiculous. The the quarterback does not win and lose games all by himself. With Cam Newton. There were big time injuries, obviously, before the Panthers not only put him on I R and put it on the shelf for the rest of the way. But then Ron Rivera got comfortable with Kyle Allen and decided that he wouldn't go back to T O Cam Newton. Maybe because they already knew that the Panthers were going toe look a different direction, and obviously, Ron Rivera lost his job before they became his decision. As for Ben, Rafa's burger, this team started out 11 and Oh, and I don't I'm not saying he's completely absolved of any responsibility and he would tell you he takes on the blame himself. But this isn't all on Rafa's burger. They had zero run game and I mean, zero run game to speak of. None on so he was setting a playoff record for most pass attempts and most completions on I know they were behind, so it's a little bit of a different game, but that's what they've been doing all season long is nothing but passing the ball, passing the ball. Passing. The ball is too much to ask for an older quarterback, and it's not a balanced offense. It all and it makes it a lot easier for defense is to game plan against so they need to shore up their run game. They obviously need to fix the offensive line, eh? So there's a lot of issues there. I think the defense, isn't it. Spot. But the offense needs an overhaul. And while it may or may not include Rafa's burger, moving forward, I don't think I'm of the opinion that the man can't throw the ball anymore. He passed for 500 yards in this game, so they just need to not have such a lopsided offense. To me. That's the major issue. And then, of course, the turnovers early. You know, the defense got smacked in the mouth, too, though in that first quarter, with Karim Hunt, being able T scored two touchdowns in his first two Times touching the ball, So they got outplayed and out, really outplayed, outcoached and manhandled in every facet of this game early on, and just put themselves in too big of a whole. To come out of. So we're going to talk about the other. A F C North team here is we start the top of the hour. Ravens beating the Titans exacting some revenge. We've got our matchups for a divisional weekend..

"20, WGN. Mark Arman with you till four clock ticks, line hot bits, thoughts. I'll get to them the second, but if you call you get to go ahead of the text line. What's up, Carrie? Welcome to WGN 312981 72 100 Wildcats are playing in the Big 10 championship game. Beating Illinois six times in a row. And there's just that little rumor out there that maybe Fitz will be a candidate. If the Bears move on from Matt Maggie, which is obviously possible the end of this NFL season carry where you thank you for calling. What your thoughts. My thoughts are this is that That is right now is in his is perfect job for him. He's been there several years went to the school All my mater family. Life is good, It's stable. And he would be walking into an issue that he has very I would say limited control with the McCaskey's running it because the family does not know really to step up and say there's nobody really there as a football. Person. But that means that we have to go in there. And play the hand of these dealt This is Maggie has negative Should've stayed as a cheerleader, just killer to Pete Carroll. Let the players go. But then all of a sudden, you know they draft people. They're not panning out. They plug up a person in a quarterback with Lennon that's not panning out. All the things come down a church going to look like the head coach doesn't know what the hell's going on. But realistically, it starts in with the general manager, and he's the one who picks all these and he was touted right, well, coming on in New Orleans here. I don't I don't mean to cut you off and you can. I want to respond to this and I get it. I get I get all the bears issues. And listen, you know, Yours truly mark arming. I grew up in Northwestern fan and a bears fan. I was I was talking with Joe Brandon are 10 to 10 30 Show today how I was at Northwestern vs Illinois in 1983 when Illinois was going to the Rose Bowl and they beat the cats that day. 56 24 for David probably remembers that one too. So listen, I love Northwestern is the point. And you know, but I'm also bears guy, right? So It's just it's I get the logic of why it's better for him to be at Northwestern. But that is an unbelievable if it actually came to be to say no to the Bears of the NFL it zbig time decision. It really is. You know, I just don't think it's saying that it would You say the Bears are truly a prime team that somebody wants to go there? The Bears, man. They're the found that I mean, you're talking like I'm 70 years, young. And I love him. But you just don't get the feeling that they've got the heart like they used to have a doughnut. But hold on that just carry that doesn't matter like who knows what the players will be in the future. You can't recreate the 63 bears and it'll Brad of it for the 85 Bears and Dan Hampton. I get that and the team's not not great right now, but that's not The point is that he grew up here rooting for that football team. It's the NFL. It's I just don't make maybe everybody. Maybe it is a simple as, like North he's got. He's got everything he could possibly ever want to Northwestern. But there's gotta be some part of them thinking like man. I've been here with the cats for forever. I'm in the Big 10 championship game of the second time in three years. This is an opportunity that I at least gotta think about. Maybe you'll say no if it if it really came to be, but I I don't think it's easy thinking about it and monetarily. How much can they throw it to him, But the biggest part comes down to what a head coach If you're not to think what your general manager you're not gonna go anywhere, right, Let's just say, you know you can sell Bella check and Brady Iran think for bomb. You mean we could go down the lying this thing? Okay, would not want to be a carnage that much of hardball coming out of the pros and then going back to Michigan. Now they want to run his ass out completely saying that you're okay. You're okay. Carrie. Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. All right, Mark, continue You You bleed blue and orange are you doing? You know, Northwestern the same way problem. You've got hats on it and on both sides and I get it, But I respect everything You guys have talked about. Great conversation. Thanks. Let me right And look, if you're talking about bleed blue and orange or bleed purple and white. I'm being honest. I believe purple and white more than I bleed blue and orange. I'm really Ah! I mean, it's very rare that I go to any sporting event where I feel like I felt at Northwestern basketball games where they made the tournament in 2017. It's some awesome. You know the win against Michigan all that type of stuff, but I mean, come on. It's Zaveri Ticket's really interesting. All right. 3, 30 checking news. 7 20 w G M..

"So he was just very sort of mumbly and free. Well, I mean, there was like Honestly, I was on that zoom call. I think there might have been four questions. He answered on that zoom call. Rambling. Yeah, I don't know. Rambling. It just wasn't really like Well, you know what, literally If there's anyone that has no leg to stand time when it comes to talking about the play, calling on a game day, it's probably Anthony Miller because I think it's been well documented that he has had his issues. Staying in the playbook. But that one must have slipped past me because I didn't really throw up on my radar when he said that, But I mean, yeah, I mean, I mean, I'm sure that there are some place that they're leaving out there. But I think that's happening because You're panicking and they're falling behind and then they're scrapping the game plan they had coming in. When I wish I think most people wish they would be a little more consistent and see things through it, So I think that's a very valid criticism. I just don't know if the guy making the criticism is the best one to be delivering that night. That makes sense. JD. What? What do you believe Nick Foles is going to be available to be the backup. Do you believe? What do you believe the situation? Will look like if Mitch struggles mightily in the first half. Are they just rolling with Mitch? Are they in your opinion? Are they likely to go back to Nick Foles? I think Mitch would have to play a horrible game. Them to go back to falls on Sunday. I don't think that They want to go to falls because I don't think that they really think he's that healthy. I think he's healthy enough to be the backup quarterback. He's the number two for emergency sakes, but I think they would prefer time. To see what Mitch can do. I mean, but if it's going if they're down like if they're down, 21, nothing and Mitch is turn the ball over two times three times, then Matt Maggie has to make the move. I don't think Don't feel like he's going into this game being like I can't like the first mistake that Mitch makes I'm going back to falls. I think this is a much different a much different scenario Still be by the way. Here's the full quote. Okay, It's actually you're right. It's a pretty okay he was behind Tony was mumbly. I think the place that we practice and that we execute in practice all week. They need to be called. When we get to the game on Sunday. We know we can execute them. We just everybody needs the chance to ball out. That's damning. Take that's Anthony Miller. That is worse than when I originally thought. Yeah, that is pretty damning. But again, it's like He's got the perfect messenger, but he's the right messenger, but it makes sense and again. I think it goes back to the fact that They think they panic. And they just they change course mid game. And they just never seem to change course anything better. They fall behind they scrap stuff, and then they just get away from what they want to do. I think that's the point. He's trying to deliver these JD is brought to you by Miller LITE With your final score. Had bears 23. Lines. 21 my first time picking the bears. They're bad bears back..

"On ESPN Radio and the ESPN app. But one thing I wonder now because the bears for a while they were, You know, I thought they were a little fraudulent, The way they started out. They had a good record, but not necessarily indicative of good play their five and five. Is this a chance for Is Matt Maggie looking at coaching for his job because I felt that they had at least another year. Hear him, Ryan Pace, you know, especially after you know they were so good. A few years ago, 2018 If it wasn't for double doing who knows? But then, last year everything came crashing down. And this year they just can't seem to get it figured out offensively like Is this his chance with his guy? To, you know, to solidify his job security even further in Chicago. Yeah. I mean, I don't think he has any guarantees going forward. You know, we've been here many times in that nagging where we said this is the team. Khalil Mack is coming over from the Raiders. You've got this great defense all you gotta do it solidify that quarterback spot. And have a solid offense. No one was ever acts in the Chicago Bears to be the Saints, but just be consistent and efficient. If you do that, you're gonna have a chance. And I haven't done that to this point. Cordy. So now here's a situation where I definitely think in this league. He has to prove something, especially with all of these intriguing young college coaches that are coming up you, Matt Campbell, just let I was state to the big 12 championship. There gonna be a bunch of college coaches sitting right there who you can bring in who can upgrade your offense, So I think Matt Maggie has to assume that he has no guarantees, and they need Mr Play well. So what? At the time of the original quarterback change a couple months ago, Travis Key had thrown for 560 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. Um, he said he was blindsided by the whole thing. You said he was caught off guard when he was benched. I don't really know how but you know it was something that he felt like He was starting to build some momentum. And then he said he felt like it was he was blind side and he had to embrace this new role. Then, obviously with shoulder and all of that and coming back from that, you know, he's now got a shot to embrace and even better role as a starter and see if he's going to be able to do anything with it. But, yeah, Bears Packers Sunday night Football definitely want to tune into also another one to tune into a football.

"Really the where we're at and how how can things you know, get better And how can we do it together? And I do want to say like Our offensive staff of coaches. I'm super proud of to be a part of. I think they're so very supportive of me. They have my back. They just want what's best for this offense and for this team. And it just speaks to who they are as people when you hear that, and you have people like that that are surrounding you that you trust it, just it really. It really makes the decision a lot easier. And, um, you know, and now you go. It's one of those deals where they're doing everything they can again The Monday through Saturday stuff doesn't change as far as you know, installing the plays and putting stuff in and all that were like that's that's still fun. And it is it. Is it hard to do. Absolutely. I'd be lying to every one of you guys if I told you that this is easy, it's not. It's not easy. It's one of my favorite parts of coaching. I love calling plays. I love it. I love it. Is it permanent? Like you were asking before? No, it's not permanent. But guess what. If this is what's best for the team, then that's what I'm gonna do, and way need to do what's best for us. Not what's best for Matt Maggie. And that's kind of that's where I'm at, and I'm excited about it. You know, looking forward to it. Can I get some bread sticks a lot of words out again. I mean, listen, I'm glad that they made the decision because I think it's and and I think it is hard for him to do that he was brought here. Not just to be the head coach, but he was brought here to change this offensive to revolutionize this offense, and it has not happened. So I'm sure that there are some There's some demons inside his head that you know if your competitors you're thinking to yourself, I'm the one that can fix this. I can fix this. I can fix this. And then when you finally kind of turn it over to somebody else, I don't know if it's a release or it's actually You know, it's painful to do, but I thought it was necessary and I don't know that this is going to produce. Significant improvement, but I think it's it's the right thing for them to do whatever the word salad. Maybe he just fired himself as the Bears offensive coordinator. That's basically dead coming up next like it love it. Our picks for the weekend will bond joining us at five o'clock to discuss met Maggie no longer calling plays for the Bears. You're Listeningto.

"Producers and hosts on ESPN, 1000 and the ESPN Chicago at wherever after salt, it's a free out. It's the I'm so angry. About the bears. Everyone's angry about the bears. Full phone lines on the Bears were all angry about the bears. Then like Tuesday. Still, some angry I was busy Monday. So I couldn't call still angry about the Bears that on Wednesday, halfway through Tuesday to Wednesday, that's when it starts to flip. That's when you start to get like the apologists don't relieve their apologised. It's the excuse makers, right? It's the Hey, Well, if you don't have enough offensive line, how are you supposed to run the ball? Well, it's not naggy. It's the players that are around him, because pace didn't give him good enough players to toe happen. Well, it's not pace because look, he's made a really good defense. And it's Nagy. Not using the weapons around him. Well, the team is giving up. It's not really on it. Look at all these. You know what I mean? Like the excuse makers start to come in. It's all bad. Maggie's offense is bad. We were given a bad bag of goods. We were given a lemon, if you will. We were sold a lemon. If you go to a cargo ship, we bought a whole mess of crystal Pepsi. Ah, whole mess of it. I bought so much stock and quippy. So much stock. No, you didn't. No, I'm talking about the Bears like investing in the Bears team right? Because I for the first two years was like guys. It's not naggy. It's the eye made the car reference a lot. Maggie wants to go fast, and he's literally driving a Toyota Camry. This dude is Mario Andretti and has a Toyota Camry and can't go over 40 miles an hour because this thing is so busted when I was talking about Mitchell Torbinski. And it's not. It's not. It's not true. It probably is partly true, risky, but it's mostly Matt Maggie, like this is just awful. So there's no excuses. There's these air NFL players. All of them are NFL players, all of them. You should be able to get something done on offense, and you're getting literally nothing until it's garbage time. You do know that the Bears right now are the eighth seed in the NFC, which means they're just one game out from a playoff spot will continue taking your calls at 3123323776. "Nichols is a really good quarterback. He's very accurate, and they're trying to build a relationship. And I think that you know for the Chicago Bears. If Matt, Maggie and Nick pulled find that formula. I'm of the opinion in this league that it's next man up like I have my game this weekend. You guys is the Ravens at the cold. Okay? Stanley goes down. He's won best linemen right for the Ravens. He goes down. He's on fire. For Baltimore. They're going John Harbaugh all week. I'm on the field like next manner and they're going to go into this game against the Colts and I have confidence because Lamar Jackson Make that line better. So for me, I'm waiting to see if I can Nick Fools make that line better. Stacy. As we take a look at the defense for the Bears. I thought that there was some slippage here in there. They're doing the best that they can, because on the other side, the offense is not holding up their side of the bargain. Not the last couple of games. How would you assess the defense for the Bears so far through eight games? I'm obsessed with their defense. I love their defense. I don't care if they've given up big place. I think that when you out for your offense and you have guys like Danny Trevathan, who's so underage in this league You know the way, bro Quan is playing a king picks is my favorite player in the NFL. I'm not gonna lie. Andan was June on the back and you know they're piecing it together and the way they're shutting teams down in the red zones. It's just exemplary. I've been so impressed by them defensively this year. You know, I try to be unbiased in this league and I washed teams and like I kind of root for teams that You know? Another great locker rooms, and they're good guys. And when I look at this defense, I just I have a lot of respect for them. I love Chuck Pagano. So you know, I'm a big fan, I guess. So a friend of mine is friends with Chuck. And he said to Chuck a chuck, You came here with this reputation of man we blitz. If we gotta send eight will send eight. But you're not going to sit back there pick us apart and he said you don't blitz as much. Why. He said, Because when you blitz, you take chances. And if you take a chance, Ah, good quarterback may make a play on you for a 75 yard touchdown, but you gotta keep bringing the pressure. He goes with our offense. I'm not convinced if we get a score to down that we can come back all the time. That's why we're playing Mohr vanilla rather than exotic. Does that make sense to you? Wow. Yeah, I mean it. Absolutely. When you blitz when your blitz heavy. I mean, I think about the Green Bay Packers last year, right? You have various Smith and Preston Smith off each edge or whatever. They use them in right? They lose in the NFC championship game because they can't stop the run and I mean, I think they kind of got tired. I mean, we didn't see an Aaron Rodgers offense last year like we're seeing this year, so You know? Yeah. You have to be more disciplined that I think and how you use your Russian coverage and That doesn't make sense to me. I think it's an interesting point. And, ah I think Chuck is honestly, I think he coaches every game for the opponent. I don't think he's going in with a philosophy in his mind. Okay, We have to be this blitz heavier. Do this in that, like he's literally going in. Trying to protect this guy. I actually found it quite interesting to listen to him this year on June calls because You think about guys like Robert Quinn and Danny Trevathan who I just mentioned right veteran players in this league that take a little bit of time to, you know, sort of come into their own physically. In an NFL season, and he's been very protective with his his defensive staff. In terms of those guys physically. So, like, you know, people said, Hey, how many reps is Robert Quinn going to get What is he going to figure out this defensive scheme? Well, they from protecting those guys a little bit physically to make sure they don't get injured and they're ready to go. As we roll into the Titans game, and you know, week nine. How formidable could Tennessee B for the Bears on Sunday bears in this two game losing streak on then? So are the Titans. This will be interesting coming upon Sunday, Stacy My hood. I couldn't agree more. I think it's Think it's another every week. I feel like in the league is a measuring stick. You know, the Titans have given up yardage defensively. I think this is an opportunity there the worst defence on third down the NFL. So for bear stands that are listening right now, like for an offense that has struggled, the 31st third down defense and the last the worst. They're down defense. And the 31st third down office. The NFL are going to collide on Sunday, so put that on the marquee for NFL network money down, so if they're standing if it's on the money down, you guys can move the chains. There's you know, maybe a potential for a win on the road. Stacy lasting from May so we're in a pandemic. There are no fans at the games, so the Bears were taking like most of the league, a massive financial hit. Fans are saying you got to get rid of Maggie. You've got to get rid of pace if you get rid of pace. That means most of the front office he brought here will probably also have to be changed out because the next guy comes in. It says No, no, no. I'm doing it a different way and then hold on a second. We get 200,000,002 uninjured, Dak Prescott, or are we going to give three number ones to move up to go get Justin Fields or Trevor Laurence? Whoever it is like they're screwed. Fruit is a strong word, my friend. I don't agree. I always defer to this. I never professor what It's like to be a head coach of general manager and lately, okay? "So Mitchell Travis Key plays one play, injures his shoulder, which they think maybe structural damage. And it's just wow. Sad. Now you're back up this Tyler Bray. Even Matt Maggie made a comment yesterday to the media. I think it wass. Maybe Kevin Fish bait. J. J isn't one of them up there. I can't remember who it was made a comment as he ready said he should be. He's only been here nine years. Yeah, yeah, pumped you full of confidence. It's like that 29 year old rookie in baseball who has 45 good games that was like We got the next star. Then you find out He's not so good. But I just got a little bit of a heater, but Kurt Warner Hood he was on yesterday on the station, Waddle and Sylvie just so many good things he had to say. And the question was asked by the guys are the Bears Limited because of personnel? Yeah, I mean, I think so. I mean, and that doesn't mean you know, And I mean, I think you can look to a couple of years ago when they finished 12 and four Wherever they finished that one year. You know, I don't know if they're personnel offensively was great that year, but you know, once again, you kind of like it back to the chip Kelly type thing is I think Matt came in and did a great job kind of changes things up, and he had a bunch of like one ofthe special plays that worked for him, and you kind of caught people off guard as they were trying to figure out Who they were going to be. And so they had this one great year and then you've got to evolve and develop and figure that out because you can't always full people in this game, and you just got to be more efficient. You've got to be better. You know what? The details of the game on and that's just to me where they lack, and it starts with the quarterback position on DH. Then it trickles down to some other spots. That is true. You remember the first year That was the old sleight of hand year for Nagy, the old Hey, how about this when we do this, Hey, when we use that here is in the back of the playbook. A lot of arena League sleight of hand. Magic plays little fridge Aerator Peri at the goal line stuff like Yeah, That was fun. There's for sure, because the leak wasn't ready for that. Like, what is all this? You know this popping circumstances this this pyro and ballyhoo all these crazy plays, And then all of a sudden you had a lineup in play next year. How about that? You actually I line up and have a similar of a good offense, and they couldn't handle it. And ever since that magical year that 12 and four year the Bear's just can't line up and play like everybody else in the NFL. Yeah, It's amazing to watch where this thing was from Santa's sleigh and all that cute stuff coming in on Mondays going. This is awesome. Oh, my God! You had what was the name of the guy? The big offensive lineman who ends up out of football that tried to become a tight end. Bradley Soul on He's catching touchdown pass We like for this amazing We've got this cute little wild, you know, offense, and a year later. We're like, Okay, we stink. Yes, is not good, because no one was ready for all that. That sleight of hand magic magic plays. I mean, it was fun to watch, but But the point is those that you know that that's something that you can't do every game. I'm sure he wishes he could be able have rightly soul out there. Have those? You know the big guy up there, Tio, run it in or catch passes like we saw with the 85 bears. But at some point, you gotta let him play and you gotta and put Mitch in position there. He could succeed. He did not, and we have not been able to Have a strong offense or a good offense since that year. Here is Kurt Warner. When asked a direct question. Why has Nick Foles struggled? I think there's a lot of inconsistencies in his game and you know, and I think that's why for the majority of his career. That's what he's been. That you said. You have had some runs and you know the deal with Chip Kelly. You know, it's it's hard to say that somebody can go 27 to and not be a really good quarterback. I mean, you don't fall into 27 touchdowns and Two interceptions. Granted, there was a new system and within that system, they would run a lot of the same plays over and over again. I think they fooled a lot of people early on. You know it was a system that could put up a lot of numbers and a lot of yards, But it just wasn't great when you played against really good teams, Um and then you know the run in Philly. They get a good team around him, and you know, he's I think he's one of those street guys. Where even if you think back to that run, you put the ball in harm's way or I'll say in harm's way, or he threw it into tight windows quite often, but In that particular run. He seemed to make more of those plays. Then they went against him. And you know it again. If you watch him, you watch him play this year. That's exactly who he's been even in the comeback win against Atlanta. There was a numerous times that he just threw the ball up. And he got bailed out a couple times. One time. Thank you threw into triple coverage and all their guys missed it. And Jimmy Graham came up with it..

"Get moved. I know you can't go find a couple offense alignment that teams are wanting to give away if they're worth anything. Jordan. Howard was a healthy scratch today for the third consecutive game in Miami, right. They signed him for a two year $10 million contract in spring. None of that's guaranteed and you're too I don't know if you could get him for next to nothing. I don't know if they'd be interested, but it would be a different face but of being old face and he can lose power run. I mean, if the offenses the line's not going open up any holes Maybe he can open up some bowls for himself. You know, maybe you just wait until they cut him because it seems like maybe after Tuesday, they'll just they'll say goodbye to him. Because it hasn't worked out there, but they've only used in short yardage in goal line situations. So I mean, I'm just trying to figure out if you don't have guys on the roster. Now we're going to get the job done is different, Better necessarily, Or is it just different? I'm not quite sure why they side Lamar Miller. He must either be really injured Still, and they have my the practice squad because otherwise I would think you'd give him a chance. He has run the ball successfully in this league. And as I say that, not Dalvin Cook, one of the other running backs for the Viking scores. An extra point. They'll tie that went up 14 with the Packers right before half. We come back. "Might be times when we go through it beforehand and say, What do you think, and there's times where you gotta get the ball quick and whatnot. But in those situations like men, I have a great relationship on the sideline conversations. Everything I think you know in that situation, Brian. It was just a music communication of words because That's not what I was trying to bring across an odd conversation. You buying it? Yeah. I mean, I do. I think that it's part. He said. There are times when Matt Maggie, you know, calls places you could see this because Matt Nagi has to, um I don't know, Assume that his offensive line is going to hold up. But when you have You know, Two new players on this left side on the right side of should say Bobby Massey and Germaine a Fetty who just got run around by. You know, this is this bear's mean this Ram's defense. He gets it gets frustrating. You saw it. I know Nick Foles, you know, played horribly but hell, he had no time at all to get rid of the football or to set up in plan anything, And the only thing you could do is the three step drops. But The three step. Drop it. It's a good defense, like the Rams defense is. Guess what they're gonna intercept him. Don't mean they're going to make big plays on you. So am I buying it? Yeah. Yeah, I am, but I also think there's a lot of truth in it. Okay, those offensive line issues or permanent this year, you're probably better off putting the guy who could move it around, You know, move around a little bit and extend the play, Which is why I'm going back to Robiskie, but but we shall see for team That's five and two. They don't feel that all of a sudden they don't feel that it alright, no there and feel that they're not not comfortable with them it five into saying, Hey, they gotta play out Chance the playoffs not really still think they get in because they have five in there Theo extra team, But yet we'll see that the product will lose another game. They should not that they shouldn't have lost last night. But To be followed for sure. The offensive and act inadequacies of the Chicago Bears teak. Let's get the update. We'll come back. We'll hammer through inbounds out of bounds. Our two interesting comments Danny Greene about LeBron, Maybe not showing up for the first month of the next season, which could begin as we discussed yesterday, a little quicker. All right, Let's go to my brothers. Take a bear call. Let's go to Steve Downtown. Hey, Steve. Hey, guys how to go on a first time caller. I enjoyed the show a lot appreciate you. Thank you. And I just wanted to say I think that there's will win on Sunday, but I did a little research and something concerns me, in particular the Bears record under Matt Maggie the last two years when they have 10 days or more between games, their own four back in 28 team they lost to the Dolphins coming off of a by And then that later that years of Giants office, 10 days rest and then last year, you know, also the by the loss of things at home. And then later in the year off of, you know, 10 days arrest after Thanksgiving. They lost to the Packers, so I hope it's not a big deal, but that's just something to keep an eye on other than that, I think will win 17 13. So that's typical appreciate. Thanks. Matt talked yesterday and said, Look, I was with Coach Rayden. He's amazing coming off of extra rest. Or offer by he goes, we haven't been and I don't know why. So we've met on it talked on it. Try to figure out something we could do differently. Anything. I'll see. Rest versus rust is a storyline going into Carolina again. This would be the first time the Berries have played in front of fans. 2500. I think I think rest will work for the Bears. Plus 1.5. Take that. Take that. There you go. "Most definitely plays a role. You know, having your offense, go out there and push the ball down the field. Maybe give us a chance to catch our win. Before we go out. We compete again. Those all of those things played a role when it comes to Ah, you know momentum in the game. Is making sure that you have a proper energy, starting pushing things in your direction. It all benefits. This bears defensive tackles picks running over with the unit. Knowing that they're going to put the ball down the field a bit in a huge triumphant come from behind victory for the Bears in Atlanta. Bears win 30 to 26 with 24th Quarter points. I'm Jeff Miller. Along with two time Super Bowl champ Howard Griffith. We're talking with you, the fans. We're here for another half hour here on ESPN. 312332377 1006. We will bring in. Will it have Nick Foles as well? We just heard from MIT Strabinsky. And Matt Maggie last hour. But Mike is in Chicago. He wants to talk about it. Bears winner with Howard Griffith. Hey, Mike, you're on ESPN one thousands. Hey, guys, One of things I wanted to say was that you know what people need to also realizes that you know this offense with with bowls at the helm. I think that it'll allow mad Maggie to open it up because he doesn't have to limit what he could do to maybe just one side of the field or just the progressions. That that that it seems like that Strabinsky can handle. Now. This is the same kind of offense that that was good enough for a quarterback like Alex Smith or good enough for a car. Maybe Carson wins or somebody like that. And that's all we need. We just can't have anybody that just can't execute the offense. So now it's history. Colin go down because he was such a could've been AH, prominent force in the what I call it the new offense so hopefully, you know, hopefully we'll be able to see more of the office and you can open it up more because it's designed to get 30 points a game and with 30 points a game, we can win just about every game. It might make you nervous, Jeff. The calls have been right on point today. I mean, right. This has been great might make a great point. You start talking about being able to put points on the board and being able to open up this offense and be explosive because that's what they want to do, and that's what that's what they want to be. So when you can get a quarterback has experience in an offense that they want to run. That's going to give a boost. Everybody. We heard it from Hicks, right team can go out and score points. It gives us a chance. We don't get frustrated. Because we know we're only gonna be over here on the SAT last three plays because the office isn't going to be your first down, so that's the energy of this offense is hopefully gonna continue to bring in the coming weeks. Absolutely that big Nick Energies there as I've been talking about all day, Howard. Yeah, it is too bad like it's you want to be positive. But, of course trick. Cohen likely tearing his A C L Mat Maggie. Confirmed in the postgame. Obviously they're gonna have a memory. But you know all reality. He's probably torn his a C l, which means he's done for the year. So that is a huge blow because he's explosive. And it's disappointing because I would have liked to have seen how they used him with Nick Foles under center. I've said all along I I was I always thought Matt Nagy was handcuffed by the fact that he never truly trusted Mitch Strabinsky to go through his progressions and his reads and be able to put the ball where it was designed to go. You know, it was always that touchdown checkdown mentality That meant talk about time and time again. Truth is that if Travis Key was found himself in a position where it was his own defense, I never felt like man. They could count on his quarterback to go to where the play was designed. And unfortunately, you know that ultimately, I think, is what short circuited not just the bearsoffense, but Matt Maggie has a plate color that is something going forward. I think we'll truly be able to You know, be quick. Now we could go forward and be critical of Matt Maggie. Knowing that Nick Foles is going to, I think, you know, deliver the ball where it needs to go or where it's supposed to go. And so now, I think we can feel confident that met Maggie is a plague color, you know, is going to feel a little more confident. In all his play designs, and I think you know bears fans. You, khun! Truly. Now look at Maggie. A little more critically. You know, you can say okay. Yeah, you've got you've got Nick Foles under center eight. You know. Go. Do what you what Ryan Pace brought you in here to do And you could trust the quarterback. Will, you know do what plays are intended to Dio? And also being able to get through, out of in and out of different place right now, in the last scrimmage, being able to make some calls, and maybe ever since, um things that because he has experience in this office, he has a feel for and knows what he's going to see versus certain defense plays that are gonna work. So you also gain that value experience on the field under center with a guy who's very familiar with this offense. And as it like, I mentioned be able get you in and out of getting in some good place and out of the bath. Nick Foles met the media shortly and talked about the opportunity to get in the ball game and lead the Bears to a win. Here is what it sounded like. What was the conversation like? Yeah, There's just something where you're on the sidelines For now you say you're in just Warm and there's a simple is that Nick, How are you able to go in in a situation like that, knowing you're gonna have to throw it on, You guys are down and things have gone poorly and have that the presence of mind and calmness. I think just from experience by in this game, obviously. You know, practiced throughout the week. You don't get reps. So you're constantly getting mental reps and Being prepared and running the skeleton just trying to play ball. It really came down. You know we're down by a little bit. Our defense did a great job of coordination. And just going out there playing ball, trusting guys watching the defense Washington Secondary getting us a good place if we need be in executing, um you know the way our first game is one play at a time, So it's not easy coming in cold like that. But if you khun approach it with the mindset Hey, just one point in time you can get all the points back in one throw. That helps a lot. Kandic walk us through the game winning touchdown to Anthony Kind of play. How you started come together, will throw Yeah, he knows way sort of had to plays on and we didn't know if they were dummy in there. Look, there sort of got me earlier in the game and swipe back to two high safeties. When they're looks like they're bringing everyone so Be able to configure a pretty cool little To play play, and they showed us what we call zero blitz and were ableto check it and get the ball snapped quickly, and, you know line did their job to give me just enough time to throw it and they know it was right where you need to be to catch and he made a great play. So that's so that's a fun way to win a game when they bring one more than you can handle me executed. Nick just following up on that. How much of that throne? Did you see what you got? Hit Pretty good. But as you were released, When did you know it was good? I didn't know I didn't see a whole lot..

"Tio master, the offense and coverages. Here's Matt Maggie's response today. Well, I think first of all Masters, a strong word. That's AH, That's all. It takes a little while to get to, But I think that he's doing a really good. He's definitely 100% and understanding coverages. And I think that's all you can ask for Master. There's only a few of those right now. When you really think about it, but he he is. He is doing everything that we've asked and regards the progression understanding where defense's air at and I just I think that that's what's pretty cool to see. He feels about Mitch the way Sylvie feels about his baseball team. There's a lot of like there, but there's no there's no commitment to love. Like you think that told you everything you needed to know. I don't like that. Listen, I do think that, like I can follow along and then you hit me with the old But they said this and did that. And then you make my brain sweat. I guess I misinterpreted what I meant by that, right? I mean, is another misinterpretation. He forgot what he said in December. Is Mitch continuing to eat his brain? Well, I felt that way for a while. I said that to you guys last know you were all over. I thought you were all over that last year when I saw some of the things that Matt did. I was like Mitch is eating his brain matter. Old town. You're on ESPN 1000 What's going on? They have. The going is good. What? We're trying to be good, but which show? Yeah, Yeah, for sure. So I just wanted to say that when I first heard the Nagy quote, I instantly thought he slipped up. And accidentally revealed That he actually misunderstood. What pace was telling him to say, And now he was told to clarify that because the original quote wasn't received. Well, I mean, I could be wrong, but it just honestly screams that Ryan Pace told Negative, Say, Excellency, but that you didn't maybe say it correctly the first time or it wasn't taken. Well. So pace like you got it. You got to clear this up. And he messed up when when clearing it up. You think that pasting like when Nagy said that Mitch has to master the defense's You're joking, Matt. You're having fun with no, no, I know he is, but that's that's that's his conspiracy theory. Well, no. Yeah, well started. It started with that. But also, I think Maggie honestly. Also was told by pace to explain how the quarterback competition is going and when they're going to tell the media. And he maybe then say it the way that paste one of them too, So that's why he slipped up when he said. I misunderstood what I said. What he really means is I misunderstood What Pacey told me to say this understood. I said, I know it's it's that was my head popping off my shoulders right there. You know, I'm listening. This is Thiss. Whole ride is confusing. Yeah, So here's what we did. I want to take some calls on this. What do you guys think of this? Here We are. What? 10 11 days away from the Bears. Taking this thing off a week from Sunday a week from Sunday. Do they know what? I don't believe they know who their quarterback is? Do you believe that two Do they know who is their starting quarterback? And if so, Who is it? And what's going on with all this stuff? About one time you say, you know, Saturday, you say this, Then you back it out. Then you backtrack on Monday. And where is your confidence level in any of this? Any of this. "Do you have time Krista place? Some of the comments of Matt Maggie had for everyone today at Bears practice. Yeah, I thought I thought this was interesting. He was asked about Nick Foles. Helping Mitch with learning the position and kind of the relationship between the two quarterbacks. And is he kind of a mentor for Mitchell? Travis Key. This is what I'm at nine you had to say So goes the nick. What you see and feel with those guys. Our relationship growing each day is Nick has been in a lot of different experiences you've seen a lot of different defense is he's been, you know, in regards to play in the Super Bowl and winning the Super Bowl, so the experiences that he has the defence is that he's seen. He's taken all of that that he's learned from and given that to Mitch. Help Mitch and I think in today's day and age, sometimes as rare, you see people that are very selfish and people that want to do what's best for them, and we'll be vindictive and malicious and how they do it. That's not who he is. That's not who Mitch is. And so when you have two guys that are competing for one spot, and they genuinely both care for one another as people and they say May the best man win. It's easy for Nick to do that to Mitch, and it's really easy for Mitch to accept that and learn and reciprocate that right with experiences of the strength and Mitch has and so they're they're really feeding off of one another each really well. And I think Coach Flip has done a wonderful job and making sure that The transition together really works, and it's healthy and so far so good with that. That's awesome. I mean, that's why you brought. I mean, you brought Nick Foles and I think to be the quarterback starting quarterback. But for whatever reason, Mitch plays better than him in these this abbreviated training camp. You've got a guy that you trust that won't sabotage the situation, And I think that's obviously a good thing. I thought this was another interesting question. Jeff Dickerson asked if Matt Maggie is evaluating the quarterback's based on what he sees in Realty time or the tape. When they go back and watch what takes place at practice. Here's mad Maggie Way more post practice than it is in practice. That's that's That's how you evaluate you evaluate off the tape, and there's feel involved. We try not to over coach him in practice. It gets too choppy. That's why we have so much film is that we can get right back in here and get to the details of what did we see? There's a lot of times when we're out there watching a plane from our vantage point that we think we can see the right angle Or why did this guy do that? Or why did he run versus manner? Said versus Zone and yesterday we had one was with with 29 with three Cohen There was ah, play. That was kind of great was cut Dr Black of Wei and and we were able to watch it on paper and see. OK? Yeah, the depth of that guy. He was a little deeper than we thought. I see what you're saying. You know, while you were running that play, you can't say that out there. So we're seeing and not just like you all are. We're evaluating everything off the tape. I think again some we talked with Dan waiter about I think the most important things at least from my perspective is is what you're going to be able to learn from watching the film when they go full man. When they go team drills. Okay, so it's 11 on 11, So it's not seven on seven. What you can learn things from, but there's no pass. Rush. Quarterbacks don't have toe shuffle left shuffle, right? You know, read the front and do some of those other things. So when they're doing team drills, I would think is a coach. That's where you learned most about UT. You want one more? Yeah, bring it. Okay. So remember in the off season when the new coaching staff for the new members of the coaching staff or being mixed in there was a lot of questions about all the different voices. I'm the quarterback and shoddy Philippa. I got Bill Lazor Yo, Matt. Maggie is the offensive line. He's going to be the play caller. So he was asked today how that's going with the mix of voices in the offensive coaching room. It's been everything that I expected. I remember when we when we when we hired them. After the season. You know some of the questions that you guys asked. Well, how How does that work? Are there too many, you know, chefs in the kitchen and when you're up front again with them, and we all explain responsibilities rolls on, and then you put it into action. It's been really good because there's constant communication Every morning. We get together and we discuss a lot of different things every night. We get together and we wrap up the day. Of what we saw. What are police are what our opinions are, and then we get okay. How are we going to prep for tomorrow? Coach Flipped codes, Rags Coach Laser. The they all have a responsibility of China's say, Okay, concept really well plays that we want to run coach Let rep wise. How do we get equal wraps? Coach rags helping me out? No. One concepts that we're looking for together, and it's really it's I think you can feel it within our organization. You can feel within our offense when we go to installs Dan. And we go ahead and detail are our routes Are we all speak the same language and when you speak the same language, there's no short circuit on plays, and it filters down to the players and, you know, we got to just keep that thing going on and make sure it always stays that way. Two things real quick Before we go to break his first he's got his guys around him. Now. I think he's more comfortable. So that's one thing. I think there's a comfort level with with with him now that you know you had guys around him before whether it was Harry he Stan or who was the offensive coordinator from Oregon, Mark Helfrich..
