Right. I mean, you can start getting in a dance with that in spirit, absolutely unbelievable. And that's where purpose. That's where, you know, your reason for being. Are you on the planet? All of that starts to shape up through that. So absolutely. "Dedicated to highlight real-life leadership and influence experts who dedicate their lives to the pursuit of the truth, common sense, and courageous leadership. And now, here's your host, Richard Ryerson. You've probably heard me talk about influence on this show, leadership is influenced nothing more nothing less famous saying by John Maxwell. A lot of people ask me in my coaching is like, well, how do we come this leader of influence, you know? One CEO one time asking me, he goes, give me the checklist. You're a pilot, give me a checklist that makes me become this person of influence. There's no checklist for that. You know, if you want to and I told him if you want to become a person of influence, you have to develop this mindset of adding value and so to become this master influencer and it's challenging these days in this age of distrust, and it is about character and character building habits. And my guest today is Jason Harris, he's the CEO of the powerhouse creative agency mechanism, and that's mechanism with a K, MEK, a and I SM, and I agree with them here that he argues that the genuine persuasion today in developing influence is rooted around character rather than relying on these I don't know these easy tactics of flattery of manipulation of short term gains. It's about engaging rather than insisting it's about developing empathy and communicating your values. I can't agree more. To me it seems like it's common sense, but you're right. I mean, when we look at kind of the shortcuts to influence, we think of these tactics of flattery of manipulation, these short term games. He's got a book out there called the soulful art of persuasion. They live in habits that will make anyone a master influencer such a great book, guys. I highly encourage you to get this. It was a fun read. And it ties into what we talk about here on dose of leadership. It's about gaining trust. And so Jason is based he's a marketer by trade and based on his experience in and out of the boardroom and drawing on tons of research on trust influence and habit formation, hair shows us talks about this episode that being persuasive in a culture plagued by deception, which is what we're faced with. It means you get to reject the ethos of the quick and embracing the commitment of putting your truest self forward and playing the long game, amen on that. You've heard me say it's about authenticity, transparency vulnerability. That's what it's all about. So I think you're really going to enjoy this conversation and I really appreciated having JSON on the show, and this show was actually an exile method podcast show. I said that, you know, for short term here for the next few months, I'm going to duel place certain episodes from this new project I'm involved with next level method, and highly encourage you to go check it out. It is around these four core principles next level method is about energy elimination relationships and purpose, and so a lot of guests are similar here in those leadership, but it's a little different. So you can find this show on the next level method podcast, which I encourage you to subscribe rate and review there as well, but in the meantime, just so that I can get some of my audience and show you some of these people who hear the fans dosed leadership. She's thirty three year veteran. At chick-fil-a she was selected as a company's first female officer in two thousand one and served as the vice president around talent and vice president of sustainability during her long career. He worked closely with the founder of chick-fil-a as truitt kathy and other key leaders and she really was the architect of their organizational culture. And if you see. And i'm a huge fan of chick-fil-a and i think they have one of the best customer service Axioms and they put it to the test and they they do what they say they're going to do and it's unique in. It's simple stuff. And they stick to it and it makes a difference. I mean every chick-fil-a eagle drive past. I don't care what day of the night of the week it is there. There's always a massive line in the drive through. It's amazing and i think a lot of it has to do with their culture certainly the food passes muster and his good but i think what gives them the competitive edge really is their customer service. It's top notch in our guest. Diane turner had a lot to do with it. She led their staff learning and development diversity inclusion culture engagement talent management and. She's on her no now. She's doing her own consulting. Got a couple of great books out there on your talent and crush your career and this conversation was all about finding your purpose was all about listening to your truth listening and finding your purpose which in the next little method side. It's one of our four core pillars. It's all about energy elimination relationships in purpose finding purpose. it's one of the most challenging things that we do. I think it's if we became more intense about finding purpose we would lead lead more productive and fulfilled lives and so we talk a lot about that with deanne. And how do we do that. How do we know where. If we're in alignment with what. The universe wants us to pursue. She has a lot of great advice on that lot of great questions. She asks herself four questions that she asked herself. Knowing that she's in alignment with her purpose is to me. That was the favorite part of the episode. Also explore in this conversation how to receive improve negative feedback which was a great surprise in this conversation. It was just a lot of fun. You're gonna find a lot of great advice. Refreshingly contrary in nature which i think is is key. And that's what i love about deanne. She's just an absolute guest. Consider a great friend. And i'm so glad to bring her back on dosing ship in next level method so go check it out. So speaking of next level method good next level method dot com to learn more. We are there. you're not alone. That's the whole reason why we started next level method. It's all about harnessing all of your potential all of you power all of your purpose. "You're tuning in today. I'm excited about this guest today. David emerald is on the show. Where do i start about david. Emerald well first of all most. He's the co founder of the bainbridge leadership center as director of the centers organization leadership and self leadership practice series david passion is supporting individuals teams and organizations and leading in working from an outcome focused and passion powered orientation. And i came across him when i was asked to teach material pulled the three bottle questions and again i ask where. Where do i start. In how this book. Three vital questions and the the material within it and teaching it Or the first quarter of this year. I teach teaching organization. I three months profound impact on my life. Both personally and professionally. I can't talk enough about throttle questions about david normal. He's also the author bestselling book. The power of ted may even seen him speak about it on youtube teaching story about self leadership and then the latest book kind of feeds off the empowerment dynamic called the three vital questions. What are the three vital question. Will the the simple really. It's number one is where you placing your focus. Are you reacting to problems at trigger your anxiety or you creating outcomes that matter to you. The second question is how are you relating how you relating to others to your experience even to yourself. Are you relating in ways. That producer perpetuate drama or in ways that empower others and yourself to be more resourceful resilient and innovative and the third questions are what actions are you taking or humanely reacting to the problems of the moment or you taking creative and generative action including the solving of problems in the service about comes. It's all about this outcome base mindset and it's something that i've talked about not so explicitly here in the last eight years but boy there's something that summarizes my leadership philosophy it is the material david emerald teaches in three bottle questions. That's what we talk about in this conversation and this is a unique conversation. Because you're going to hear my business partner matt lily because this is also an episode that has playing on our next level method. Podcast something that we're launching As i'm releasing this episode on the sixteenth of august twenty twenty one. So i'm gonna do a couple things particularly the early stages of next method. I'm trying to get some of you. The audience you loyal audience members here a built up a huge audience over the last eight years leadership. I want you to go to the next level method and subscribe rate and review. I'm going to simulcast and play this episode here. "How to introduce yourself when you're brand in a branding leadership position or a brand new team or maybe you're a brand new project manager to certain project a lot of have been there and i've ever received a lot of over the years questions about this and they've answered them and i thought well this'll be episode because people seem to be concerned about it and i think i thought about those times i've been. I've been multiple times. And it's very stressful. It's when i think back because first impressions are crucial. And you don't want to be digging yourself out of whole from a bad first impression so you wanna make it as effective as possible in. I guess when we think about this there's multiple types of situations that you can be in. You probably have to handle them all a little bit differently. And as i was thinking about what i would talk about in this episode. I think i think about those times. Were even when i've coached a few clients when they've been brand new to position that there are certain situations that are different than others. For example i think the best situation to be in is if you become part of a brand new team or a brand new project that has that has never been formed before. I think you're a definite advantage when you're being one of the first one to join and create a legacy right and so that's when we think about team building and we think about leadership that's kind of the classical sense right 'cause now we we're all getting to know each other we're of going through this experience together. It's a great way to kind of do life together and share the ups and downs in the highs and lows. It's a great opportunity Particular when you've got a blank slate so that's one scenario. I think to me on the ideal scenario. The second one is an. I've had this happened a couple of times where you become the new member of an existing team or existing project. That's already good shape and they've been doing well. I think it's a good situation to be in. It is fraught with some risk though. Because you're the good thing going here you come late to the party essentially and you know how do you thread that needle without disrupting a good thing

"Happy tuning into dose of leadership mad. I can't believe i'm approaching five hundred episodes so excited That was reaching that benchmark. So many exciting things happening here today. I want to talk about how to introduce yourself to your team. You're brand new leader. I i've had requests for this. And i just got an email the other day i want to thank melissa from san diego for sending me this email asking me what do we do. I'm getting ready to take over new position. she says. And do you have any tips tactics. On how i can successively introduced myself to this new team. It's a great question. I think it's one of the most stressful things we can do. As leaders is get that new leadership role. What do we do and so we're going to spend a lot of time talking about that on today's episode before we dive into the episode a couple of things. I wanted to mention next level method. Again i'm a partner with the founder of next level method matt lily and one of the things that we've done is created podcast to support next level method. So what is next level method will. It's about transforming you life for the better. that's really what it's all about. It's about experiencing a more purposeful life. It's about deeper relationship. It's about having a brighter state of mind. It's about creating this world class community and that's what next level math is all about. It's something i've always wanted to do with those of leadership and create that community. And i felt like here locally in town. I met this local entrepreneur who we had a lot of the same interests and beliefs and he was well on the way and he needed some help from the podcast died so became a partner in next level method and were officially launching the podcast august sixteenth. And i encourage you to go check it out there. Next level method dot com. You can certainly search on it on. Spotify on apple podcast. Google podcast on stitcher. All of those things where you can get your all your favorite podcasts application. We're going to be there and it's much like dosa leadership but it's on steroids. Because maybe you feel stuck. Maybe you're in the middle of a life altering transition such as job change. move or divorce. Maybe light isn't terrible but you feel like you're living below your potential right. I know i've certainly been there. Certainly been a struggle and maybe some of you have gained all the external successes in the world. But you still have this knowing the sense of unfulfillment. That's certainly been the story of my life. Certainly as i entered into my forties and now zim knife in my fifties. I feel like of my purposes is doing this. It's about being a coach. It's about being a speaker speaking teaching coaching about leadership. But what do we do when we find yourself stuck. We turned the money material items. We look for status. We do self help techniques go to seminars. We go to live events and we read books therapy. Maybe we do some bad things. Maybe we indulge and behaviors. That aren't so good. And maybe they can help in the short term but again it's only short term relief so next level method is all about long a long term solution. It's not about managing the pain. It's solving the pain. We've all been there and next little method is about hope about world-class programs but holistic.

If i have a conversation or a guest with somebody for example an entrepreneur someone like sammy hagar which I'm trying it looks like may happen here. But those the leadership going to really more about me and my brand and helping you on these solo episodes. And so the two things does leadership is primarily going to be solo episodes. I. in junior college a lot of people of course we don't want that to happen because there plenty of people of course they need a job but there are plenty of people sitting in ivory towers that will not be able to make that kind of money or they won't be able to have that kind of free reign when it comes to spending money on athletics because that gravy train has been so good over the mashed potatoes it's been so good over the state it's been so good part of the deal that no one thought that this was going to stop especially with its safe will need that people have when it comes to live sports want to be a part of it watching it on TV watching in bars all of a sudden this this enemy because that's what is called a nineteen is an enemy they look at is a man we thought that we handle this this thing always has handled it may slow down in places they may be completely sold out of places but that doesn't mean until there's a vaccine that is going to go away well yet so many people having money at the top of their mind awareness because they knew what could happen if there was no football in the fall in college a lot and we're going to do everything possible to speak it into existence and hope that it was going to slow down a goal away when fall rolled around but in here we are all the sudden to your point but even if it's in the Freddie Coleman of Freddie and fitz Simmons and ESPN radio and six XM channel eighty three weeks ago people were ready to throw parades hit hit parade top of all today hip hip Hooray toss well today and now this week can you with a little bit he thought that Christmas was never gonna happen again four people and it only took three weeks four people have common sense the come back into the minds when it comes to something that we still don't know exactly what it's going to do and we're going to find a vaccine for that when it comes to cover nineteen sooner than later and that's my point yeah a year ago I'm right there with you one month ago compared to one month from now we did it's a it's an unknown but I know one thing college football is going to happen it would have going to play games man yeah you got it but it but it may be different you might have only have because of state laws you may only have twelve SEC teams instead of fourteen you may only have eight big twelve teams without mass still doesn't matter instead of ten right do you have the fourteen teams present Michigan saying Hey we don't have but in classrooms there will not be football at Michigan it was a bold statement he made about a month and a half ago we'll see if he goes ahead and backs it up but if you don't have college ball if you don't have the National Football League because the same thing right now is being said in NFL circles should we move the start of the season back or ask me three weeks ago it was this crank this sucker up let's go start leveling it you know staffers back into buildings everything but it's it's in on no one entity that we don't have our our our winning close right now to having a grasp of what or how to cure it how to kill it but I know one thing if we.
