"The fact that there has been no decision on who the starting quarterback is going to be for Alabama this year. Coming off a season where you had the Should Alabama fans be worried about that? No. No. They have so much talent it doesn't matter. One of those guys will be ready to go and I think also I think there's some gamesmanship going on with Saban as well. I'm sure he has an idea who's going to be the guy but he's just not letting the media know that yet. So that's the old trick that a lot of the you know the Belichick disciples and know you those guys they would keep all that information close to the best and you know they have an idea who it is though. I remember after Carson Palmer won the Heisman Trophy at USC at an open competition for the quarterback and was two guys Matt Cassel and Matt Leinart. And I remember at the last second they said all right we're gonna go with Leinart. We don't think he has the better physical tools but he's probably likely to make mistakes. That was the selling point. I remember sticking point. Yeah I think he lost one game in three years until that last loss to Texas. Yeah it didn't pan out in the league though. No and it's like Matt Cassel had a better game at USC. Ends up actually having that one spectacular year replacing the injured Tom Brady. Yes so yeah. Go figure. Alabama probably has the same situation happening. I'm sure those guys are five -star blue chippers who can definitely play the game. So like I said I think they're holding it close the to vest of who the guy is gonna be and I'm sure Saban has an idea. So you were you're bragging about your Louisville Cardinals right? Yeah. And that they're favored to win every game and I'm looking at the preseason rankings. Oh not even ranked. And they're 35th. In the top 25 they're 35th. Yeah. I mean are they gonna be good? We're gonna be good. We just got Jake we got a plumber come in to quarterback the team. Has a lot of I mean not even potential he can the play game. Jake Plummer is coming back? He is. Jake Plummer's back again. I think he's I think he's 52 now and he's ready to go. He's very heady. Still has some eligibility. Oh man still can move around too. Yeah but we got the plumber kid in there and uh yeah we like I said favored in every game. Mm -hmm. And having Brom come in to lead the team back to his glory days. Yeah. We're gonna be we're gonna be fine. How is that for you to play at a school that's known for basketball? Don't you ever say that I know that's true. I mean come on. I know it's true. I know. I went to UCLA. I mean we've had good football teams. Yes. When you say UCLA you think basketball. Yeah I mean you but you gotta think about our our basketball days were in the 80s. I mean we've it won again. Wait what are you talking about? No a basketball school but I mean championships. Yeah Crum. Denny The late great Denny Crum. see You a light guy by the way. Yes. But you've won since then. We've had the one with Patino. Yeah Yeah but they back -to -back Final Fours. It wasn't just one year. Talking about winning. We've made big bowl games. We've been in those. Actually there's no record of you guys winning. It's the only NCAA champion that's. It's not back Ah Lee. It's been erased. Like it never happened. Like that guy. Who was the guy that shattered his ankle during the game? What was that? Oh that was Kevin Ware. Oh it was bad. That was bad. That was the worst thing I think I was against Duke. I was like oh that's terrible. Yeah it was bad. He came back to play. He had a good following season that. Which is crazy. How did they do that? Yeah. Alright well Kerry we're gonna be talking some football down the road. In the meantime don't go anywhere folks. Yeah we got a storm coming. It's Fox Sports Radio. Fox Sports. "Then he came back from the God, it's my favorite part of the carnation. You know, and it's really odd. It was really odd when the coronation. And then they said that Matt leinart would be next. Wait a minute. I thought it was. I thought it was. I thought it was willing to Matt liner next. I thought Matt was from southern California. Coming up next. So there's that. Later on, we'll talk about which player in sports who's been waiting a long time to be crowned. Yes. We'll get crowned this playing season. Do you like that? Overreaction, Monday, Kevin pollak and more. We'll take a break so we're on time for the HC of the NY J Robert solid a man of the hour coming up next. Back here on the rich eisen show 8 four four two O four rich is the number to dial Robert sala is about to join us from the New York Jets, the JETS. Jets jets jets. Yeah, so following all of Peter king said yes. He said, it's probably going to be done for Thursday at 8 o'clock, but it may not be finished in time. They're still trying to hammer out the opening Thursday Sunday, Monday. Thanksgiving. There's a Black Friday game this year. Obviously, Christmas Eve and a triple header on Christmas that Monday, so, you know, Peter source is saying? I go up until the 11th hour. 272 games. You know what? It's going to happen Thursday, I think. Just saying? I think so. I mean, everyone's got plans for it. I have plans for it. I have plans. So, hey, I've got plans. All right. Right, Mike. When you have plans of the schedule show, you do, do you? I understand. Was the first show we did. On NFL network where we made something out of nothing and did we get roasted for it. And then everybody did. Roasted. You did? We got roasted for it. Yeah. Like, what are you doing? Who cares? Who cares if the schedules out? We already know who's playing who and you're making something out of nothing. And now everybody's doing it. They make it crazy. And now it's a whole big to do. I'm just worried if it's not done in time. What is francesa going to do for? Well, francesc is not on the air anymore. And so we would honestly, we couldn't say a word to anybody. And the Giants would leak their schedule to Francesca. Giants would be the one to do it. Yeah. Yeah. All the time. We're trying to create something here. That everyone's making fun of. And then everyone the Pope is what am I doing over here? Reading all the secrets. Like when you're telling us to go get our Shaun box, honestly. Back here on the rich eisen show 8 four four two O four rich is the number to dial. Before we get to Robert sala, I just want to say in my opening take about what's going on with the sons and the owners beef, business wise with Dan Gilbert, I had no idea that Dan Gilbert's son had passed away over the weekend. None, and I appreciate you guys letting me know that in the middle. So if any of my sports criticism of Gilbert was taken by you as being insensitive, I had no idea. So my condolences to the Gilbert family just wanted to say that. 8 four four two O four rich is the number to dial right here on the rich eisen show. Joining us, one of my favorite people to have on the program and that's because I like him very much in a boy am I rooting for him. I'm just straight up. Just straight up saying that. The head coach of the New York Jets Robert sala back here on the rich eisen show, how are you doing, coach? Are you guys doing? Sounds like you got a pep in your step. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. You know, anytime the players are in the building, I get a little bit of extra pet. Okay, where are we? We call it, we call phase two. What do we call this? Part of your year right now. Phase two. So we're on the grass, a lot of individual, no one on one, no team, but just guys moving around and just executing techniques about it. Okay, and so so much conversation about the quarterback obviously coach and whether he's going to be there or not, what is your sense of Rogers participation of the spring this year for the kids? What's he told you? Well, he's here. And I know he's got a couple of things planned that he had planned prior to ever being traded. So just to be respectful to all our guys with regards to prior obligations and family stuff. So he's got some things going on. But he's here. He's present and when I say present, I mean, he's fully engaged and it's really cool just to watch him operate from play to play in this communication and the way he works from position group to position group in terms of explaining things. Like I said, he already knows the system and so now it's just it's kind of trying to help everyone get on the same page not only with him but ordinary the old line and it's been fun. It's been really a cool thing because we do have a we still have a young roster, but this off season we've been able to add a lot of veterans so it's that little mixture is a pretty good combination. Well, I mean the adding of veterans on the roster was that from the vaunted list or not. No, you know what? What do you got for me on the list? No, it's okay. Part of attack it too, you know, like whenever you bring in new coaches and I made mention of it the other day and I feel like sometimes we try to demonize demonize the quarterback when in actuality it's very common. You've got a new coordinator. He worked a lot. He worked with military and he took Billy Turner with him to Denver. So he's got guys that he's comfortable with that he wants to continue working with in the quarterback has some thoughts too. And

"The 2023 NFL Draft is Thursday night, and all signs point to Alabama quarterback Bryce young going to the Panthers as the number one pick. Young is dazzled in his time in Tuscaloosa taking home the Heisman Trophy and building a college football Hall of Fame worthy resume as well. But it's his size, not as accolades that make him unique in this year's draft. He stands at 5 foot ten and just under 200 pounds. Making him one of the shortest and lightest quarterbacks potentially going at the top of the draft in decades. So today, Pete Tamil joins us to break down whether or not young can measure up to the job that's in front of him. I'm George sadhana, it's Tuesday, April 25th. This is ESPN daily. We all know that breakfast is an important part of your day. But sometimes when you're traveling for business, you end up staying at a hotel that doesn't offer any. And you know what happens, you grab a cup of coffee and skip the meal entirely. We've all been there. But if you book a room at la Quinta by Wyndham, you can enjoy their free bright side breakfast featuring delicious baked goods, fruit, eggs, yogurt, and waffles. And really, who doesn't want to start their day with a fresh hot waffle. Tonight, la Quinta, tomorrow you triumph. Book direct at LQ dot com. Pete, let's take a look at Bryce's resume here for a second. Starts in Southern California at cathedral, transfers to modern day, which is a football powerhouse across the country, really. But based in Southern California, then gets to Alabama. She'll tell me about how Bryce came on the scene. Well, George, you're a 100% right. He really introduced himself to the world at modern day. Now that's the school that gave us Matt leinart. It gave us Colt Brennan, JT Daniels. It is the school of gilded Southern California quarterback prodigies. Most of whom go to USC. And that's where Bryce was committed to at very early age. He was committed to clay Hilton. The family made a decision they decommitted they ended up at Alabama very soon after and that was a really interesting move because you don't go to modern day where you duel with St. John Bosco, where he had a couple epic jewels with DJ uy uncle lay, who was obviously the star quarterback there who went to Clemson. You typically aren't reared in Southern California to go to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. But he did, he was a backup on the 2020 title team, the dominant Alabama team with Mac Jones who trounced Ohio State in that national title game, arguably one of the best championship football teams in the modern era. So we saw Bryce young a little bit that year. And then he came on and went 23 and four as a starter over two seasons, won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore. He led them to an upset of Georgia in the SEC title game. Lost to Georgia in the college football championship that year came back with all the expectations and all the hype and had a very, very good junior season. And everybody knew this was going to be his last year in Alabama and I would argue that he may have played better this year because the talent Alabama had in front of him and at shiver was not nearly the caliber we've seen from Alabama in the last 5 years. I mean, Alabama is not going to have a receiver drafted. If you go back through the past few drafts, they've had a first round pick or multiple first round picks at that position every year. That position just never found itself in Alabama last year, which prompted him to have to have plays like he did at Texas early in the season when he ducked a unblocked Ryan watts from the corner position. What's coming right side steps through it rolls to his right, directing traffic. Runs it now inside the 25 gets out of bounds inside the 20 what a play Bryce young baby saving a chance for Alabama right there. I was up in the press box that day. George, I still don't know how he did not get tackled on that play. I swear, you and I could do yoga classes for the rest of our life and not have the face mask come as close to the ground and then he bounds up, takes him from the 37 to the 17 and then eventually sets up the game winning field goal. If he gets sacked there, they lose that football game. It's that simple. So that's his backstory and the on the field part. But what else should we know about Bryce young's path to this particular point? He also came about in an interesting era. I think for a broad audience in this NIL era, he did a $1 million cash app deal going into, I believe his sophomore year. The S two cognitive test scores have gone public and he essentially aced that. For those that don't know what is the S two cognitive test. So the S two cognitive test is sort of like a new age version of the wonder lick. And it's a cognition test. How fast can you process things? It's essentially a test to gain your thinking. And he reportedly scored a 98 on that and was just complete aces. So I had somebody tell me like, any notion of him not going one ended when those cognitive test scores came out. Character wise, the NFL scouts will tell you he's the easiest character eval possible. I mean, he's a great kid. His dad is his best friend. He's low key and all about ball. There's not a lot of sizzle there and the way NFL teams like, but great in the locker room, great leader, Nick Saban, has gushed about him in rare ways. Well, I think Bryce will do great. The guy can just process the so quickly. He's very accurate with the ball. He's a great prepare, understands the game, extremely well, so I think that's going to translate very well. So it's a compelling package. What if some of the other coaches in the SEC that he played against said to you about his traits? Well, everyone was curious, right? Barry Odom, longtime defensive coordinator, former head coach at Missouri, was the D.C. and Arkansas the last couple of years. And they played in November of 21 that Heisman year, and you know, look, if you're a D.C. you sit there and you watch the guy on film all week, right? You stare at him, you watch every play. You know everything about him. So Barry, the afternoon Tuscaloosa, he's like, you know, I'm gonna go peek at this guy in the field. I'm gonna go see, see how the ball spins out of his hand. Just see, see his presence. And he left the field that day and he was basically like, we don't have much of a chance. Now he didn't quite say that bluntly. But he was just like, it foreshadowed a 5 touchdown performance. The phrase he used to me was he watched the ball explode out of his hand. You're around this long enough, you talk to enough scouts. They tell you the one position they have to see live as a quarterback, because film does not do justice. You have to be on the field with your eyes, George, to see how the ball leaves his hand. Clark Lee at Vanderbilt, he said the best quarterback I've ever tried to stop and defend was Trevor Lawrence. Now, he says better than Trevor Lawrence, but he said he is basically right up in the top of the conversation with other first round picks. And he said, well, you're standing there, trying to stop him on the field. How big he is, never factors into the equation. He's clearly a college Hall of Fame type guy, his resume for sure. And besides the height, what are some of the critics saying about him? Well, if you really start to dig in peel and we've probably spent too much time on the negative considering all the positive today.

"Tech would always have the leading passer in the nation. But they weren't great pros, but you create a system there, whether it was Mike leitch, creating a system there. Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma, Ryan day is really good with quarterbacks. You create this Alabama open things up. Lane kiffin became the offensive coordinator, Steve sarkisian was there. And Nick Saban had to get with the times. It wasn't about running the football and playing defense. She had to open things up. And you watched Alabama. They always had all Americans wide receivers. Great offensive line. And you'd have a running back taken in the first round. How am I assessing these quarterbacks here? And that makes it really challenging. Is it fair? Probably not. You go in almost with a bias. But I want to see what you do, at least two years. I don't want to one year quarterback. That would make me nervous. You have to stay in college for three years, at least three years. I should be able to get enough of a sample size that I don't rely on one year. Because I learn more about Josh Allen, the year after his talent left, and they weren't very good team. But I want to see you when you struggle, because that's what the NFL is. You're going to struggle. Now what happens when you struggle? If I'm at Ohio State with those receivers, offensive line, offensive minded head coach, I'm probably going to put up some great numbers there. What happens when you don't have that talent? That's what's hard to assess. And that's what these scouts will tell you. You're not quite sure. That's why I said, I didn't want Dwayne Haskins. I didn't want Mitchell trubisky. I didn't want Daniel Jones. I need to see a little bit more and I need to see it on a big stage. I saw everything I needed with deshaun Watson. I mean, let's take away what is happening off the field. On the field he did everything he wanted him to do. He beat Alabama a couple times. When at national title, there was no reason zero to take Mitchell trubisky over him. Zero. Patrick Mahomes, I just remember telling the man that guy's fun to watch. I had no idea that he would be great. I just knew it was a guy playing in the backyard. And he's almost telling his receivers where to go, draw in place in the dirt. That was it. And sometimes you can stay too long. And maybe deshaun Watson stayed too long. Like Trevor Lawrence, you know, all right, he's good. All right, he's really good. All right, he's probably going to be the number one pick. And sometimes when you see those quarterback, Matt leinart stayed too long. Sam darnold. You're like, okay, now what are you going to do? Can you match those numbers? Oh, you can't. Maybe you're not as good. I mean, that's why it's such an inexact science. And these guys who get paid to do this, that's all they do. And you still can't do it with a high consistency. Because there are guys, David klingler had a ton of talent. Washed out. David Carr was his talented as any quarterback. He didn't last. Tim couch thought he was great quarterback. JaMarcus Russell had as much challenge any quarterback who's ever played. He didn't lose the talent. He lost the desire to want to be great. Ryan leaf, same way. What makes Tom Brady so great? He didn't have the talent anywhere near some of these guys. It's just weird. It's different. And you're going to have that moment coming up next week. Anthony Richardson. Ton of talent. You know, will levis okay? It comes down to, what do you do when you get out on the field? I don't care you're 40. I don't care your combine. I don't care about anything. Game on the line. What do you do? Do you pucker up? Or do you perform? A leftovers? Or the DMV? Or housecleaning? And it works and just because people do something that's really good, doesn't mean it should be outlawed. Have a hard time understanding personally why this is such a big issue. Yes, the eagles ran it perfectly many times. Haven't we seen this our whole lives watching football Chris, why are you laughing so much? Because you love him. I think because I think as time goes on and on here, I love Howie roseman more and more. It stinks that he's not running my favorite team, just how awesome the job this guy's done. In recent years, I think this whole thing with the push is hilarious. Nobody can stop it. So everyone's like, we can't stop it. Let's get it banned. But also, it's been around forever. So yeah, but nobody's really done it to the extent that the eagles have done it here. They've really figured out kind of a loophole TJ of like, we're gonna bring the rugby scrum and we also have this awesome quarterback who can't really be stopped. So let's just kind of shove everybody forward. This is kind of what goes back to like, can we blame Matt leinart and Reggie Bush for this? This is kind of where it started. Also, I can understand why you're a fan of this because your team is quite notorious for taking those rules. A lot of rules that people don't even know exists and kind of, you know, pushing it to the edge. It's still legal, but because no one knows about it, people are like, oh, this is wrong. It's like, nah, we're able to wait a second. We're able to just do this real quick, bang, we'll do that. So I can understand how you would be a fan of Howie, because your team is really good at doing stuff. TJ, don't be bitter because we win. There's a reason to be honest with you. Also, if something is legal and we do have a lawyer coming in studio for much of the second hour in Amy Trask and we can ask about the legality of this if you like TJ from your bitter perspective. I'm impressed. I'm impressed. You're able to progress that we're smarter than you are. And look, how we check the rule book, everything's legal. It's a push not a pull, right? To push not a pull. Pulling it legal, pushing totally fine. You know, the Tom Brady was maybe the greatest quarterback sneaker of all time. I think Jay one hurts is gonna give him a run for his money as long as they don't ban this because they don't like it. And the truth is, is that that was the best of his mobility, Tom Brady. I mean, there were times that he really fell forward beautifully. And I'm not gonna lie that it was legal. It is legal, and I have a problem with changing it. And I know that the rules committee is waiting to hear my thoughts on this. So let me just talk to you directly because rich can't get a state at your committee. Hey, listen, guys. I think it's fine. I think it's okay. I think you should leave it be. And you're welcome. See what I did there? Is that tech rule was back then with no one knew it existed. It was. You mean the forward pass. Hey, listen, TJ so fish, you should pour for the rest of us. 'cause she comes out here. CBS sports football aficionado and we're excited to have you here for much of the second hour. The princes of narcs will join us here on Roku channel and on a radio and podcast networks across the country. And we'll talk much more about the combine because that's why I'm here, people, right? I'm not here just to fill the seat, although many people think that I do poison my husband to come in to get some air time. And they think that because you actually said it, you said that. Was that me? Lots of rich guys and show when we finished up this first hour much more in the two hours coming back. We'll be right back with. Yeah, and I like how he because he puts himself out there. That's what I like. I like about him. I mean, he's very much a 21st century GM. And by the way, like so what if he's like flirting with legality? It's legal. It's either legal or it's not legal, correct, Chris. I want you to remember that when one of your kids comes home a little bit late from curfew or does something. And I want you to remember what you just said now. No, no. Our whole rule in our House, you know, we keep all of the electronics in a lock box. We found this out yesterday. And that's how rich is beating your son and fantasy 'cause he's not allowing him. Oh, you guys. It was still the one last night. So there's Cooper watching the Timberwolves game with me. And Timberwolves. Sorry, sorry, TJ. Twisted. And rich, I FaceTime rich so we could say goodnight to the kids. What does he do? He shows Cooper, his fantasy. 7 to four, 7 to four back and forth. Cooper's like, duh. I don't get any time. Which is wrong. Which is showing him like, shoving it down his throat. Kids 12. I think it's possible that rich cares more about fantasy basketball than his own family. Oh, wow. That's a statement cut. Clip it. Clip it and use that. While you were at the game. Yeah. How often was he checking the scores on his phone? Every 5 seconds. When he wasn't, you know, putting down some snacks. We did have the dessert card. I'm just saying. Amy Trask, much of the second hour when we come back, Tom palace calling in. We have a very busy Wednesday. If TJ doesn't finish off the champagne, we will be right

"What's the poll question today, seat O'Connor? Dan, we put up is the NFL combine actually useful to predict future success in the NFL. Okay. The options are absolutely or eh, not really. Okay. What do you think? I'm going to say not really. Not really. Okay. Any other poll questions that we're considering. Right now, 80% of the audience is not really. Well, I had another one I was kicking around. Maybe we do this hour too if you want. All right? You want the quarterback sneak push play band because your options are, you hate football? Your team can't do it. You're soft. All of the above. I don't know. Are there other options there? Yeah, it feels like the eagles mastered this, they're really, really good at it. And now, and I was told during the Super Bowl, when I reached out to somebody at the competition committee, working with them. And I said, you're going to allow this, this is going to stay, and they go, it'll be, we're going to discuss it. I think was the phrase. We're going to discuss it. I don't know if they keep it. But it feels like they're too good at it. And but what are you doing wrong? That's not fair. This isn't the Bush push with Matt leinart, which was illegal at the time. This is like, hey, quarterback, battering ram. Here you go. It actually feels like the most pure play, the purest play in football. You have two lines of people, and basically the strongest one wins. Maybe we've gotten so far away from the idea of what football kind of was that. That doesn't make sense. It's kind of like tug of war, but you're not pulling your pushing. This is a battering ram there. But I would be surprised if they kept this that it's back next year in the NFL. I know, that's so lame. I know. It'd be like if you said, let's say, you know, years and years ago, if you say, man, that team's really good at passing the football, let's outlaw the number of times you can throw the ball. Now they're going to talk about player safety here. But I don't know who gets hurt here on a quarterback sneak.

"Since he's been close to fully healthy. I also think that there's a little bit of like, remember those years when USC had like Matt leinart and Reggie Bush and granted, like both of them want a high has been, but it's always a little bit challenging when you've got another superstar on your team that's going to pull away some of those votes. I mean, we've seen it with Chris Paul and Devin Booker a little bit too AD turns 30 in March. You'd normally don't see guys like, you know, ascending into a conversation at that age. Now granted, the reason that he's been out of it for several years now is like has been because of health. So again, if his wrist is the reason that he's been a poor shooter and maybe, but like he's had all sorts of other injuries that have kept him off the floor. So between that between the fact that he plays with LeBron between the fact that you're also kind of at that point asking a question of like, are there Lakers going to be good enough to keep him or put him in an MVP conversation, which I don't think most of us feel that way. My answer would probably be no. You know, could they have maybe gone a different way with this? Like if they had found a home for us, maybe, but again, it's still contingent on 80s staying healthy. So I don't think I would lean more toward no here just because he's not quite on the wrong side of 30, but he's getting there. And I just don't see it as like, I also think there's a ton of contenders for that award. And most of them are younger than AD, so I'm going to say no. What about you? Yeah, I think I'm with you. I don't see it happening, which is a bummer. I mean, I keep bringing up that one stretch, but it was after boogie cousins towards ACL. They kind of turned the team over to AD. I think he had that crazy first rounding against the blazers that year. This playing with Rajon Rondo, he was at the center of those lineups and that team was really good and it was really exciting and it's just been it's just the overall part of the malaise with the Lakers and I'm sure people are a little sick of us talking about them, but I can't think of another team that has two at worst top 20 talents. That's just so disregarded because of, you know, the rest of the roster construction and when it comes to Davis, I mean, maybe I cursed him, but I mean, we put him on the cover of a sign, it was like, you know, him and LeBron are the perfect partnership. They make each other so much better in all these ways.

"Right. Welcome back to Jim Roam Show on a labor Day Monday. I'm Sean Pendergast. Great to be with you 855 to 12 for CBS, if you if you want to get in Just got done talking to Rob Stone, Fox Big noon kickoff and there in Columbus. It's really cool as a college football fan, man. Competition is a good thing in any walk of life and competition. In the college football world. If you're a college football junkie Look, Game day has been the gold standard forever for on site on campus college football. Studio shows. That are there to hype up that particular venue that particular campus and convey great information and entertain you throughout the morning. I love that there's another one. Now. I loved it, and I think they do a really good job on Fox. I think there's really good chemistry between the former players. Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush. Bob Stoops. I've I've only seen a little bit of Bob Stoops on there. Obviously, he just joined them this year, but so far so good. I've always enjoyed Bob Stoops as a talker back when he was a coach. He seems like a fun dude off the field. I know enough for you people to tell me that they really like Bob Stoops. And I'm just as you can tell. I'm a big fan of Rob Stone. He's a good friend, So I think he does an amazing He doesn't amazing. Amazing job steering the ship, you know, you know, he does an amazing job steering the ship. Because Fox has been doing it for college football. They've got him doing it for soccer literally on back to back days. He's in Madison one day And then he's in Nashville during the game last night with Alexi Lalas, due in the studio show. He does bowling. He does college basketball. Like he, you know, he's the man so good stuff. We appreciate it in Oregon and Ohio State man. That's going to be a fun one this weekend. I boy I really hope Thibodeau gets out of that walking boot really, really hope that Thibodeau gets out of that walking boot in no small part because I live in a city That should be scouting high level draft prospects like number one in the draft draft prospects. I live in Houston, Texas. The city that will likely have the number one. Well, I say likely likely means there's a greater than 50% chance. So it's not like I mean, it might be No problem at 50%. I think I saw an article on ESPN dot com somewhere I saw where they forecasted the percentage chance that each team gets the number one overall pick in the draft. And the Texans have the they have a 24% chance of having the number one overall pick in the draft. I'll point out that the Kansas City Chiefs According to similar simulations have a 26% chance of winning the A. F. C. So the chiefs of the Texans have virtually the same chance. Fulfilling their destinies. This year, the Chiefs winning the A F C and going to the Super Bowl, the Texans getting the number one overall pick in the draft. I will further remind you That less than 20 months ago. Those two teams played against each other in a playoff game in Kansas City, in which the Texans lead 24 to nothing in the second quarter. And now here we are, on the day where Tyrod Taylor gets announced as his starter. For the Houston Texans. It's the number one headline. It's the number one headline on all the sports sites to Rod Taylor getting named the starting quarterback, and we know why it's the number one story. It's the number one story because of who the third string quarterback is for the Houston Texans, and that's to Shawn Watson. Alright, 855 to 1 to four, CBS. Let's work some of you in here. Open phones the rest of the way I tap out at the top of the hour. Let's go to Georgia and talk to Dwight Dwight Europe on The Rome show that Jim Roam show on CBS Sports Radio. What's happening? Very shallow appreciate. Oh, you got me in today. I hope your we can do an oil. Thank you. Um, I just wanted to talk to you about last night, though. At four state Notre Dame game. What game last night. Do you think Mike Norville has got this program? Turning in the right direction is What are your thoughts on Florida State's program? Yes, Dwight. I appreciate the phone call. It's only year two for nor Vell. You know, he came in and replaced Willie Taggart. I don't know how popular choice that was. I think Florida State. I know some Florida State alums. I know former players who went to Florida State. And I think they were looking for something a little sexier than Mike Norville, although he's had good success at other places that he's been most notably Memphis and I think, Look, I'm just basing this on last night. You know, I I think I think it's moving in the right direction. I think I was surprised Mackenzie Milton wasn't starting the game. I was surprised at the outset of the game. He wasn't starting. And then I was even more surprised when he came in and damn near led them to a comeback. I'd be shocked if he's not the starter. When they take the field next week or whenever they next play. So I think it's moving in the right direction. I think similar to U C L A They play in a conference that I don't I won't say the EC is there for the taking because they have Clemson. The Pac 12 doesn't have a Clemson so that is there for the taking. But at least working your way back to where you're the other team. You're the team that Clemson has to worry about on the schedule like that's what that conference used to be. All roads lead to Clemson and Florida State every year. Now all roads lead to Hoping that Clemson falls asleep at the wheel for a week in conference and they never do. That's the problem. They never do..

"The NFL is back Sunday on C B s. We'll get to the NFL coming up. After the update. We are a couple of days away from week one. I'll get through. Some of my biggest storylines would do all that. But let's kind of close off our conversation when it comes to college football. I thought this was a really strong week of action. What I really like about the playoff Is the playoff incentivizes Big games. In a pre Playoff world. Everything about college football was a zero in the loss column. And I thought it crippled teams. I thought it hurt the viewing experience. Clemson is not that interested in playing Georgia. If they know that this loss Takes us away from what we ultimately want to do. But it doesn't really with Clemson. Clemson runs the table and Wednesday Sisi. They'll have an argument of being one of the four best teams in the country. And then once you get into the playoffs, you're in the playoffs. But the playoff system has incentivized big time matchups and big time games because it gives you that buffer. That's why the college basketball season is so strong at the beginning of the year. It helps you to play those good games in the first three weeks of the college basketball season. Because in the end It's going to help you with seating is going to help you with rpm. It's going to help your national perception is going to help your brand and the losses don't hurt you. Everybody in college basketball picks up four or five losses over the course of the season. Some teams more, but all the good teams picked that up. It's about challenging yourself, playing like competition and getting yourself ready, ultimately for the postseason. That's what I feel like the college football season has created now with the playoffs. And I think it gives us a prism into Who the elite teams are. We didn't need this lesson or this message, but we know that Alabama Is the team in college football. What we're seeing Alabama do Is unlike any program in the history of the sport. We're talking about their scholarship limits. Now it's a parody driven sport to some extent. There's other elite big time programs. Georgia Florida L S U Clemson, Ohio STATE Oklahoma. There's a lot everybody's on television now. It used to be a big advantage to Notre Dame to have that NBC deal doesn't matter anymore. Everybody is on television. Everybody is accessible at this point. And eventually, like most things, your run ends. The run of Miami back in the early 2000 ended We got that run. For what? Five years, six years. The Jimmy Johnson Derek Erickson. Miami Hurricanes strong run, They made two documentaries about Miami. It ended. Think of how great USC was with Pete Carroll and Reggie Bush and Lindale White and Matt Leinart and Carson Palmer. Fantastic run a documentary about that, too. The run ended. It ended pretty quickly. Sure they got their championships. They got their Heisman trophies. They It ended after what 56 years. We're talking about with Alabama. This is a run that is now going on for a decade. Even longer than that. We're talking about a program. That you know, year in and year out. Can win double digit games. Is going to make the playoff It has a chance to win a national championship. Alabama has one double digit games. Every year, but one since Nick Saban got there. The first year they went seven and six. Since then, they have won at least 10 games. They're winning 10 games again this year..

"That's right. So this will be this game coming up Sunday will be the first time an NFL team gets to play in the Super Bowl in the actual stadium. That They play their home games in Okay. The Rams played in Los Angeles. It is Super Bowl against the Steelers back in the day, but it was a different stadium. They played in the Coliseum. I believe in their home games were at Anaheim Stadium. Correct. That's when they were in Anaheim. Yeah, yeah. Maybe it was the Rose Bowl over the quarterback. I have been the Rose Bowl. Be fair game against fear. Go! Yeah. This was For the ladies and in Orange County, and they were in love with Vince Farrell. Gamma this good looking he was looking dude. Yeah, he's still sells real estate there does. He really is a real He's a real turn out this far gone. Oh, I remember him with Nebraska, but he also had used daily. Play the U. C l A right. Gargamel played to see away Yes, he did. And then he graduated from Nebraska. Still handsome has an older guy. Is there a picture of him as a younger guy when he was like the brand's quarterback was a good looking dude. That's sort of the Tom Selleck. Yeah, yeah, he had. He's a good looking guy. Yeah, Yeah, He is kind of Matt Leinart. Look. So he looks like in these little bit. Yeah, he was young back then he he may have been at that time. If not the youngest starting quarterback in a Super Bowl game. He was certainly one of them could be right. And the Rams. You know what that was back in the Steelers heyday, Steelers had to have they had to put 2/4 quarter touchdowns on the board. To beat the ribs. The Rams, I think at the end of the third quarter They were headed that game 1917. And then we're ahead. That's right. And then one to Stallworth. And want to swan late, and I think the Steelers wanted 31 19, Ram's head coach. During that game. Yep. Uh, Brain elevation. Yeah. Yeah. I love this game, Ray. Mellow vase. Lay it all the time. Also coached here in Denver. He did. That's right..

"Patrick dot com Congratulations to Devante Smith with him winning the Heisman. Also had you know three Alabama Crimson Tide players in the top five. I think that that only happened one other time, and it was during war time. With army? I don't know. You know, people talk about Doc Blanchard and, uh, who? My Glen Davis. So you know, the two great running backs that at Army, but nobody ever talks about the quarterback and army. And he finished fifth. His name was Arnie Tucker. So he finished fifth in the Heisman balloting. Glen Davis wanted Doc Blanchard finished fourth. And then last night, Devante Smith wins it. Mack Jones, his third and nausea. Harris finishes fifth. Yes, but when you said that had three guys from a team ever been invited to the Heisman top five You know, the team that popped in my head was USC as wonderful Kleinert, Reggie Bush and LenDale White. Linda White. I don't know what his stats worry, but he seemed like a vital player. Obviously, it wasn't it list, but that was a three people, people I thought Why that wide receiver they had to that your parrot? Oh, yeah. He was also between General awesome up in him. I don't know. Did he go to Carolina? They was second round pick. Yeah. Check. LenDale White. I thought LenDale White had like 24 touchdowns that year. Like something crazy. And he went to Tennessee as well. Yeah, pulling LenDale White had had 1300 yards and 24 touchdowns was not a Heisman finalist. He's uh And and you know, you're starting to see these comparisons, whether it's fair or not, But then nobody ever said this sports world is fair. Matt Leinart. Into a Tonga Vilo. And the comparison obviously both left handed not considered strong arm quarterbacks, accurate quarterback smart quarterbacks. But all of the weapons that they have And is to Ah, gonna be viewed the same way Matt was, you know, because Matt Didn't live up to the billing when he went into the NFL, but Is to we're going to have He's got another year here. It feels like and you got a new offensive coordinator here. But do the Dolphins at number three? Oh, it to the Dolphins. And their fans and franchise to look at the quarterback. It's crazy to think it And nobody's going to tell you the truth inside of what somebody is actually feeling but You know, you're not quite sure. Teams move on. Arizona moved on from Josh Rosen, because A cliff Kingsbury found his quarterback. And in Rosen wasn't very good. But remember all of the hype with him? And then he just disappeared. Even trying to hold onto like a third string spot someplace. But I wouldn't rule it out with Miami with two of you got to do your due diligence. And maybe somebody wants to trade with you. In that number three pick. But I think you'll see those comparisons that might emerge with Tua. But I, you know, and even make love and talk to me about it. He goes, You know, it feels like we're putting more pressure because of what Justin Herbert did. And I said Yes. And Joe Borough? Yes. We are And we're not being fair to two of because of the injury that he suffered and then trying to come back. But then, when Trent Dilfer comes out and talks about just glowingly about to, uh Entrances. Smart guy Trento versus Smart guy when it comes to assessing quarterbacking play, and I firmly believe that and he was working him out now maybe was over hyping him. But To it. You don't realize sometimes the arm strength or lack thereof until you get to the NFL. When's the last time you watched in college game, you go, man. Good things. He's got a strong arm. Everything is wide open. Right? How many times do you go, man? He had to fit it in there. It's just you sort of guide things. Like Matt Jones. I have no idea. I truly don't Everybody's open. E. I don't know. In fact, Jones is never like running for his life at Alabama. You get to the pros, and then all of a sudden you go. Oh, man. He's got a great armor. Our man, he doesn't throw this far as hard as I thought. Everybody's caught up in my homes and Josh Alan that they can throw the ball. As far as Uncle Rico. You know, but it doesn't. It doesn't. It's not that important until you get to the pros in college. You know, You just don't assess somebody that way now the scouts do, but we, his fans. If I said what kind of armed is Mack Jones have You don't know. Don't go, man. That guy can throw like Justin Fields. Looks like he's got a great arm. And Clemson's defensive backs would probably agree. Yes, the club But Mack Jones just throw like 40 yard passes all the time, like they bomb it downfield, but I don't but it's never like a tight paths. But but I Could throw a ball 40 yards downfield, McLovin right eye. That's how you say, but it's not like he does. He's a dink and dunk quarterback at all. But you like throw it 20 yards into a tight window. Can I throw my wide receiver open? That's that's what I want to know. And I don't know if two it could do that right now. He just He doesn't seem to have a physical presence. And it and it became a little more obvious. I think in the NFL, maybe you get a new offensive coordinator in there. You know, with Chan Gailey that changes things I still have Ryan Fitzpatrick. And Ryan Fitzpatrick can still play at a high level, not consistently but at a high level. This is a team that has been built strategically. And now the next step is You. You have to make the playoffs. Next year. You have to make the playoffs or it's been, you know, a disappointment. I let me get some phone calls in here, Brian in California. Hey, Brian, what's on your mind today? Hey, Good morning. Happy New Year to the boys that you're doing a job. Um, my first dynasty. The fan, of course, all old school. I remember talking to you, but you're 67 Corvette long time ago That shows back how old I am my Steelers. Feet. I feel like this year. I mean, we've been no bye week, right? Titans got cold with the other team within the team. We got code that postponed Tennessee. Do you think No, they won't post. I don't think they can Brian and thank you for the phone call, but I did wonder about that yesterday. Because the Steelers, you know, got jockeyed around here. No other team was affected more by not having covert than the Pittsburgh Steelers were in dealing with covert. But I can't imagine. I have not heard anything. Todd, did you hear back from Mike Florio on is that I have not just yet. Did you forget to send a many headed sentiment up?.
