Super Bowl LV: The Goat vs The Future

"Well a ref- last time. We talked to you wild card weekend with six playoff games over two days and you pretty much didn't have any time to eat or sleep this weekend. We only had two games both on sunday. So is your home. Look by comparison on a weekend like this much cleaner. I can say that and not only do i have time to eat. I have time to cook. I'm very excited. That's awesome well. Let's start with the early game. The bucks beat the packers. Thirty one to twenty six tampa bay went up twenty eight to ten in this game. What was the key for them building on this big lead. I think a lot of it's just the pressure they were able to produce the packers reduced to having lucas patrick and billy turner on their offensive line and it gets shaquille barrett and jason paul. There really isn't enough. I mean they're used to having a top three offensive line in the nfl. In fact both of those teams are and without that aaron rodgers is under pressure much more often that affected a lot of throws and of a lot more often than we typically see second and eight jerseys. Jason pierre paul. I think that was a big part of it. But also i mean as many times as tampa bay receivers willing to drop the ball. I mean they are better receivers than the packers have in that secondary in that easy pretty good secondary. A huge storyline throughout this game was also the bucks on third down conversions. What did you see from them. So well under pressure a lot of it is just the packers third down defense was just not very well designed and this has been a typical problem for mike patton and his defenses. And i think the that the buccaneers kind of organised out of their game plan around what they would expect to see on third down and so you ended up seeing like for a brief period of time. They had one hundred percent success rate on third down and like a ten percent success rate on first and second down it was kind of nuts. But yeah i think for the most part. They anticipated some blitzes. This saw man coverage they decided. Hey you know i. I think that chris godwin. Or mike evans can beat this guy and this guy was usually kevin king but they were able to win a variety of throughout the game especially on third down where i think things were just a little bit more predictable for them in the second half. Tom brady three interceptions on three consecutive possessions. Third down to brady throws it under pressure. The packers failed to convert the last two of those into any kind of points. How we're the bucks able to hold that lead after three turnovers. Some of it is the individual talent of the players that they've gotten a secondary thing. Carlton davis is really put a stamp on the nfl especially in the postseason. But he's going to be one of those rising players to watch next season that will be identifying and he's played very well but i think some of it is just to have an enormously fast defense and i think was the kind of got a feel for what the packers were attempted to do offensively. They just had a better understanding of what needed to be done. We're the players needed to be in how to hit those landmarks because they weren't really being ton of their defense. From a schematic perspective. They were just kinda getting to their landmarks. a lot. faster. Whether against the runner of the pass the defining play this game was packers coach. Matt leflore making the call to kick a field goal on fourth and goal from the eight yard. Line down by eight points with just over two minutes. Left and tom brady on the other side of that ball. Instead of going forward here on fourth and goal makes this a five point game again really surprised by that decision joe. I thought that they would go for it on fourth down a reef where you land on this decision by matt leflore not to go forward on fourth down. I think it was a really bad decision. And i think you know based off of what my twitter timeline is saying. That's fairly universal agreement. Interestingly wasn't as strong analytical decision to necessarily go for it on fourth down versus kick. And i think you take a look at some of the calculators that are out there and you know it was better to go for it than to kick it. But given the fact that they had three timeouts plus they were ahead of the two minute warning. There's a little bit more time than you. Typically anticipate so from an analytical perspective. It doesn't seem like as bad of a decision. But honestly i think that you take into account some of these situational factors like the fact that the packers have the best red zone offense. Nfl history as far back as her. Dagoes which i think goes all the way back to like. Thank you ninety. I think that plays a role. I think the fact that tom brady is on the other side of the ball with a bevy of weapons and a healthy offensive line. I think that plays a role. And i think kind of every additional bit of context that we add to this decision makes those analytical models a little bit more often favor of going for it instead of kicking that field goal because they needed to have those two scores. It just doesn't really make a lot of sense of the was

"The packers thirty two eighteen on saturday and heading into the weekend lindsay. You wrote that you were really excited to see this. Coaching matchup between matlock floor. And sean mcvay. What stood out to you in the battle of the minds here. Yeah i mean because these are two guys who know each other so well and you know. They're very much part of the same coaching tree. They both worked under kyle shanahan about the flora then works Under sean mcvay. So they have very similar offensive philosophies but that was just a game that was full of really interesting. Coaching matchups mallon floor wine. That batch up by far the packers had the better game plan. They were the better team better coach. All of this and sure aaron. Donald was not at full strength. You could tell that. He was very clearly hampered by the rib injury that he suffered during the wild card round but it was just a very impressive performance overall by aaron rodgers and certainly by matt leflore and that entire coaching staff the packers put up four hundred and eighty four yards of total offense against basically the best defense in the league. talked about aaron donald. Who's just a generational talent. Not being at full strength. But how is this packers offense. So effective saturday night. We'll everything they do. Obviously starts with aaron rodgers. Who just seem to have this innate mastery of what was coming and it kind of went viral on twitter a little bit because so many of fox's camera angles shown face on with aaron rodgers where you could see the moment that he realized what was coming that he was able to diagnose the coverage and dictate the play based on what was coming and the offensive line played really well protecting aaron rogers. He was barely touched. I'm not sure if his jersey had a single grass stain on after the game. And you know when you're not getting pressure on a quarterback and you're running the ball really well and you have davante adams who's one of the best wide receivers and football. It really wasn't even a close match up. And you know. I know a lot of people in green bay throughout packers land. Were wondering this is the best defense in football and it has to make you wonder. If that's the way that the packers aaron rodgers played against supposedly the best defense in football. What are they going to do for the rest of the

"Just the head coach that he was in sync with that he he looked at can respect. I don't think there was a lot of respect going on towards the end from Aaron Rodgers towards Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers took a lot of heat over that. But I think we see. In retrospect he was right. And we see that the Packers made a great choice in Matt Leflore, another one of these young coaches who comes in with an offensive system. And Aaron Rodgers prior to yesterday. 48 touchdowns, five interceptions is absolutely remarkable for him never renaissance at age 37. Is incredibly is gonna be the m V p of the league and yesterday was reinforcement for what I've been saying. Since really I've been saying since about Thanksgiving, which is the Packers of the team to beat in my opinion. They're the team to beat the Chiefs, although the chiefs of the best record their 14 into their winning a lot of close games. And I think you look at last year's playoff run, and I think this is what needs to be remembered about the Chiefs with last year's playoff run. It's one of the reasons why I'm taking the 10 points today with the Browns. I don't think the Browns are gonna win. But I do think the chief's We're gonna win another close game. But that playoff run with the chief's last year think people need to remember. They caught. They caught a real break in getting a buy in the first round because the Dolphins beat the Patriots in week 17 and not the Patriots from two down 23. So the chief's gotta buy. Then the one seed gets knocked out. The Ravens get knocked out by the Titans. So that means the Chiefs get a Texans team, which is about as phony of four seed is we're learning that you confined, so they've got to beat the Texans. The four seed the Titans, the six seed at home. In the playoffs, and then we're damn near knocked out in the Super Bowl. They you know, the Niners had a win probability of near 90% in that game, and Jimmy Garoppolo just couldn't make plays at the end. Hey, credit the chief's credit The Chiefs. They won the Super Bowl last year. Patrick Mahomes. If you were dispersing the league and said, Let's start over again and draft the week. Patrick Holmes is the runaway pick for the number one overall pick. I fully acknowledge all of those things. But to me the Packers of the most dangerous team, the Packers, the most complete team out of all those teams, and Aaron Rodgers is playing football at the highest level of anybody right now in the lead, including Patrick Mahomes. So that's my big takeaway from that game. My big takeaway from the Buffalo game against the Ravens is twofold. One. I think what we learned with Buffalo. Is said this is what good teams do. Look. Buffalo did not look very good against the Colts in the first round of the playoffs in the wild card around, they didn't look very good at all. They were they were able to win the game. 27 24. I know they had a two touchdown lead in the second half. But the Colts wouldn't go away. And in the first half of that game, the cult should have been leading by like 10 at halftime. They spent the entire game down in In Buffalo's end of the field, and they were trailing 14 to 10 at the half. So I think you could argue that the Bills got outplayed. What we knew about the bills throughout most of the season is that they can win shootouts. You know it had evolved into a team that especially early in the year. The defense wasn't very good. So they could win games in which You know, Brian Day Ball and Josh Alan and that offense all those weapons they have Stefan digs. The running backs cope easily that they could win shoot outs. I think what we learned yesterday is that the bills or one of those teams, and this is the sign of a great team. They're gonna be comfortable playing in games that are 35 31, which it may very well be in the A F C title game if the Chiefs win today. And they could be comfortable in games that you win. 17 to 3 or whatever the final score was yesterday. You know, Eventually, Lamar Jackson goes out of the game and I'll get to Lamar Jackson and just the second But I think that's the encouraging thing If you're a Buffalo fan Is it? We've won a bunch of shoot outs this year. We've won a lot of games knowing that we can run the score up on teams. But when we run into a team The place really good defense. It really has a game plan for us that day. Look, the bills needed a pick six to put that game away. That we can get into a game and be comfortable in a game. Leslie Frazier and that defense in a low scoring game. That's an encouraging thing. If you're a Buffalo Bills fan that you win the first week 27 24 And that you win a low scoring game yesterday. That's what the Patriots did through the years. That's how the Patriots would adapt. Whatever the fight dictated. Whatever style was dictated. Bill Belichick in the Patriots always had any answer. They won Super Bowls 32 to 29. They win Super Bowls 13 to 3 against the Rams. Whatever it calls for. And that's that's pretty cool of your bills Fan. Just a year ago, the bills were licking their wounds. From a game that I was at in person game They were leading 60..

Super Bowl Bound: 49ers and Chiefs

"Did bill. We made it to the Super Bowl. You me and Jimmy Garoppolo. I feel I I may have sweat more watching the NFC championship game. That Jimmy Garoppolo actually swept playing being in the NFC championship game. Bill Barnwell is a senior football writer at ESPN and the host of the bill. Barnwell show so after two weeks Of Extremely Exciting Football Championship weekend did not disappoint niners and chiefs fans disappointed pretty much everyone else or at least anyone who wanted close close games both favorites dominated so let's start with the most dominant team the San Francisco Forty niners bill win the niners packers met earlier earlier. This season. Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst games of his career threw for one hundred and four yards. Tonight he threw for three hundred twenty six yards But the result wasn't much better. Why is that okay? So the first time these two teams played the niners won with an absolutely dominant. Pash Josh Rush Nick. Bosa and his teammates knocked down Aaron Rodgers ten times on Sunday. The only knockdown Aaron Rogers twice and while they did hold them without a first down conversion in the first half both of those games the packers movable pretty consistently I should say after after halftime instead the forty niners otherworldly in a different way on Sunday they ran the ball forty two times for two hundred eighty five yards and four. We're touchdowns averaging nearly seven yards per carry to put that in context. ESPN has a stat called expected. Points with measures how each play impacts team's James Chances of scoring on a given the forty niners racked up the second most rushing. EPA for any team in a game this season and and the most for any single team in a playoff game over the last decade just narrowly beating out the prior record holder. which just happened to be the forty niners? Twenty wanting twelve playoff win over. The Green Bay Packers would Colin Kaepernick. Ran For one hundred. Eighty one rushing yards. So they're leading rusher tonight. I was not Colin Kaepernick. It was re Moster who ran for two hundred and twenty yards by himself. were good has hat trick the first half of the NFC championship game deserves a hat trick of field grade baby bill. Will I am guessing. A decent amount of football fans hadn't heard Ramos before tonight. Okay so you mustard is basically it accident accident in football terms but it's such a cool story so the Shanahan offense has a history of unearthing obscure running back and turning them into stars going back to Mike Shanahan stays in Denver but even among those backs most particularly remarkable case. Liners did everything they could to find a different running back over the past a couple of years. They hand picked a runner who they traded up to nab in the two thousand seventeen draft never played a game for the team. They signed Jerick McKinnon Torres. ACL He's collected more than and twenty one million dollars for the niners without ever playing a single game for the team. This offseason they added. Kevin Coleman from the Falcons who suffered an injury in the first half and that opened up the door from western and most of its story is easy to root for. You heard him talk about it. After the biggest game of his life on Sunday crazy that I've been on seven. Different teams actually still have cut dates every before every game a look at the dates when I got cut not everybody can can deal. Would that type of stressing the pain and agony I went through. I kept the faith to not only myself but whoever gave me the opportunity is organization has done a great job most are made the niners roster as a special teamer at first but after he looked good in limited time last season they gave him a three year extension after playing. Well this season most are just became the first running back. NFL history to top two hundred rushing yards and scored four rushing touchdowns in a single game. That's never happened in the playoffs playoffs before pretty good for a guy who was really an afterthought until the two thousand eighteen season. What's just remarkable? Bill is those two hundred twenty rushing yards. Were nearly three times as many yards as Garoppolo the night as quarterback past for which made for a remarkable stat sheet. There was a point in this football game where according to ESPN stats and Info. Jimmy went ninety four minutes in real time without attempting a pass so I have to ask going into the Super Bowl. Is that a sustainable offensive approach. I mean we all had that friend and in our twenties who got by succeeded solely because they were good looking right now that friend is Jimmy. Garoppolo I mean in the divisional round. He barely through through the football in the conference championship game. He barely through the football. We saw a similar situation with Ryan. Tannehill right over the first two weeks of his post. The season and when Tennessee ran into an offensive juggernaut with the chiefs their offense with Danny Hillis not able to accelerate into a higher gear. Now of course Garoppolo is the one who has to face the chiefs unless the forty niners can shut down the Kansas City. Passing game with their pass rush which isn't out of the question they're going to need to throw the football more quite a bit more. We've seen the niners succeed in games or Garoppolo and to throw the ball at ton with the Saints Win. Maybe as a notable for example but since Garoppolo through that interception against the Vikings in the divisional round cow Shanahan has called seventy one runs against just twelve passes passes even if the niners do end up throwing the ball effectively against the chiefs. It's clear that Shanahan doesn't WANNA put the game on Garoppolo shoulders unless absolutely necessary and that in itself is telling throughout the game bill packers fans were frustrated. Understand police and they seem to be taking out some of their wrath on the coaches arguing. They should have devised better game. Plans to both run the ball more and stop the run and do you think there's anything that Matt Leflore or the Packers Defensive Coordinator Mike Patton could have done differently in this game. Yeah I think so I think to be fair. Shanahan might just ask pedants number. It just felt like you is several steps ahead of the packers defensive coordinator and when pen and tried to adjust it just never seemed to catch up and work there. There was one play I think in the second quarter was a microcosm of everything that went wrong for the packers in this game. They came out in their nickle package with five defensive backs against the forty niners base. He's too back offense which created the size mismatch. The niners pitched the Baltimore and not only did he have a huge hole but he made both safeties with on their tackle attempts downfield win for about thirty yards. pedants struggled to put his players in positions where they could succeed and meanwhile leflore didn't coach like a guy who was a seven point underdog. The packers punted. I believe on their first drive on fourth and one from the fifty yard line. We know the packers are enormously more effective offense with Aaron Aaron Jones on the field but the floor still Jamal Williams their backup running back. Play over thirty percent of the offensive snaps and he didn't really take advantage of move the niners movement Richard Sherman. That was really fascinating during the regular season for the niners and during the vast majority of his time in Seattle Sherman signed up for almost every every snap asked the left cornerback. Defense playing against the right side of the offense. The niners started the game on Sunday. Which chairman on the opposite side of the field on the right side of the defense on the left side of the offense against devante items and while Sharon didn't travel to the left side very frequently? He did do it a few times during the first half. The second half Adams was able to be isolated Sherman over the top for a huge play downfield. I think that played about half of his snaps on either side of the field. I would have liked to have seen for trying to isolate him against German a little more often and take his chances with

Aaron Rodgers 'Glad' Packers' Joint Practices with Texans Over

"Go to the n._f._l. Let's start this in green bay. Packers and new head coach matt leflore and aaron rodgers not on the same page early in camp. The coach likes can't likes camp likes working out with other teams. Here's what aaron rodgers said said about doing a joint practice with texans. I wouldn't mind if they didn't do it for another fourteen years and then he said that the offensive work is of great value because schematically. There's not a lot there and he doesn't like the risk of injury. Is this just one of those things or is this a real problem between rogers and the floor. Take it or shake it. Take it real problems. Take take take it though she sleep but i think when you think when you think about what i said the other day about out joint practices. It's a no no. No one wants to do that but coaches then only ones you. There's there's nothing to gain from it. The iran tell you 'cause. Let's coaches are stupid. He just do stuff. They just day or stupid. I told you this the other day and raja's comes out and basically backs up exactly exactly what i'll say it. No one wants to do that. You risk injury. You're getting no real work at all and it is going to be a power struggle for this young head head coach and matlock floor in aaron rodgers. It's going to be a power struggle in math going to have to cave in or else. He's going to get fire yeah. I was just gonna say if you're a brand new head coach jay first time head coach and all of a sudden you gotta go coach your first team as the head guy that's one thing you've got to be the head coach of the green bay packers with a hall of fame quarterback. Who's in the meat prime of his career. That's a totally different thing different. Yeah it's different because ann rogers is also different. He's so cerebral. He's so questions every think think anyway. He's not just gonna go to get him on like other. Q._b.'s wills so you know skiing on the walls though skin on the wall. What do you mean it meaning matlock floor. Oh if you if you were dealing dealing with coach that came in and mike shanahan or bill parcells done something that has some skin on the wall the aaron rodgers with baal down where if there's a guy like sean mcvay say the world gets up into shining face their push mcvay a smart enough to realize that i need him to produce some let him do what he needs to do. If he's doing what he needs to do in his positive then we're gonna be okay and if it's negative it's gonna follow him. I've done everything to make him a better player. I'll keep my job. "So I think there are a factor in a very tough division in Green Bay back to back losing seasons for Rogers, all of the stuff. We just talked about with a new head coach six nine and one season ago. What are their chances of winning the division? I think dang, I'm not a text message. We talked to Matt leflore said he is going to let Aaron audible is going to happen. And so on putting them at thirty five percent here and the reason is they have a great quarterback. When you have a great quarterback you can win a lot of football games. The other thing that they have that I think is, is going to surprise people then have a ton of talent on their defense and Mike Patton who's a defensive coordinator. I think we'll do a good job with the guys that they've added. I think they have one of the best young corners in the game. And so, I think defensively, the Packers are going to be strong, which they haven't been really for the past probably three years, or so that pass rushers. They add in free agency the safety. They. Drafted savage out of Maryland. Was in Maryland. Yeah, they're very happy with him. Obviously, they, I think it's I'm giving them twenty four a little better than the lions. What again, I have this division very, very close. I think everybody's got a chance at it. I think rebates got a chance at it or pod short already exactly what one hundred parental. I think they're definitely in the mix just, you know I like the other teams a little bit better. No, no spoilers. Yeah. In minnesota. It was a high pressure year and they really kinda sunk. Eight seven and one. What's the percentage chance they get it right this year? Well, I'm going to give them a twenty five percent chance of getting a right this year. I actually think Kirk cousins is better probably than most people think that Kirk cousins is I think he's good enough to to quarterback a team a division title. I also think there's a lot of talent around that team. You know you'll get a receivers running back tight ends and then defensively. Mike Zimmer is always going to do a good job with the defense. You know you look at the beginning of last year, wasn't great, and then he righted the ship. And so I think that I think we'll be a competitive team. I think they'll be in the hunt, but I'm a twenty five percent. Yeah, I, I got I like them a little better than in the hunt, actually, if anybody can do a little quick math. That makes them my favorite to win this division by little. I agree with you on cousins, I think return to full health for Delvin cook running back as. Very very important thing for this offense. Obviously the offensive line and the protection of the quarterback has been a problem there for a number of years. I think they worked on that a little bit in the draft. And I think cook helps with that. So, and yes, of course, Mike Zimmer defense, you can almost always trust bears twelve and four seven and one at home. I really impressed with the job. Matt Nagy, Dan. Obviously some challenges for that team. Now when you look at, you know, you lose your defensive coordinator, Chuck Pagano, the new defense coordinator clearly talent on that defense. I think he'll do a good job with them. But, you know, recreating the whatever it was thirty something takeaways that they had a year ago. I think it will be difficult. I do think the offense improves this thing this ends up being a tough division, so a twelve and fourteen giving them the same percentages six nine and one team it really just comes down to kind of the development of Mitchell Trubisky. And I think the fact that he's in a division with other teams in a quarterback named Aaron Rodgers. I want to ask him out there and if the defense is a little bit worse you change defensive coordinator, dick van. Oh gets a head coaching job, if they are a little bit. Worse is Trubisky. Good enough to win games on his own. I think he is because his athleticism has shown through, when it's been remarkable, and then got Matt Nagy has also learned a little bit more about Mitchell Trubisky in some of the situations that he can put them in Matt..

"I kind of agree with what you're saying before, is a tremendous coach, and he details oriented, he's worked with superstars before you had Matt Ryan, twenty sixteen now Ryan's different personality than Rogers think that's were people's eyebrows, might raise a little from what I gather feel. The Packers had a choice between Josh mcdaniels. Matt leflore and mcdaniels has worked with obviously with the greatest superstar. All he knows how to handle that kind of environment, and yet, they still chose leflore. So they, they must be extremely high on what he can bring in probably even to a certain degree out there. I don't know would you ever hire a coach for? His upside, which do that. If you have a guy like Rogers under center right now, you know something Indy. I think when I realized that these coaching searches and having talked to guys who had been through it and become NFL coaches, or coaches, that I think one day will be in the mix for head coaching jobs. His they realized their application for lack of a better term for the job is not just should not just be about what they have done Xs and os wise and, and sort of what production. They've generated of players in old systems or in previous ten years. It's about their ability to kind of everything else, which is managed fifty three personalities be liaison between coaches and players management and players, the business side. There's a lot more to it. And I thought that the fact that the Packers were the first team to hire their head coach this off season was telling no I understand they had a bit of a head start because they fired Mike McCarthy before the season was over at the same time many if. Not most of their candidates were coaches that we're not able to interview until the end of the regular season. So I thought this, this coaching hire was pretty telling about how competent they are in Matt leflore my pick. For most intriguing coaching hire is cliff Kingsbury. And I'm sure this, I, I would imagine this might be like the most popular answer. If we pulled it to the masses, but let me give different twist. Get to the obvious stuff in a minute. But I asked myself this question I almost should have put into a research test is I wonder has there ever been a college head coach who was fired and subsequently landed in NFL, head coaching job with the caveat that the guy was not fired because he was going to take an NFL head coaching job. Like, yeah, it's, it's really. I mean clippings Barry was fired from his al-madhur of all places where he's not the most iconic player in, in Texas history. But he's certainly one of the beloved members of the Royal family of Texas Tech football and, and that's not to say that he doesn't deserve this job in Zona. It's just such an unique path relative to where we see so many other head coaching hires now beyond that Andy, he goes to Amazon aware. I don't wanna say deferential, but we know that Steve was influential in the role he played in terms of hiring the defensive staff. Obviously, steve. Time is going to handle a lot of the heavy lifting with the roster and people are talking about a lot of the concepts that cliff Kingsbury is going to bring from Texas Tech to the NFL, and I'm not saying that there won't be a lot that will rear themselves Andy..

"And as part of Aaron Rodgers extensive interview on ESPN, Milwaukee radio radio he denied that Packers president. Mark Murphy told him not to be the problem when they talked about that before. I don't know of Martin Murphy said it to him or not Rogers is denying it. But the fact that it was even out there. It does David. And so again Rogers denies that. That's the case doesn't know where it came from. Rogers said he's talked with both the general manager as well. As Murphy before. Matt leflore was offered the Packers job. And that they then followed up. Once. Leflore had spoken to Roger specifically. Says that none of what you've heard or what you're reading in this Bleacher report article is accurate. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. So we've gotten to the bottom of what Ted is or who. Ted. Is you guys ready? It's an acronym. It's not actually a person and it stands for technology, entertainment and design. Ted for short. So the TED talks, then theoretically would be about technology, entertainment, and design are they motivational talks inspirational some of them are informational. All right. I'll try to check them out in all of my free time. I love that people are upset at me. Or just the prized. This is not my department. Ted talks, not my department. But that's fine. If you if it makes you feel better to make fun make fun away on Twitter a radio and then also on our Facebook page, eight five five two one two four two two seven a little more of this Rogers refute. That's what I'm calling it. He's wanting fans in Green Bay. To shake my hand, tell him. Thank you for the memories. Tell him thanks for the coaching job that he did tell them. What you appreciate him being part of what we built here. How good we need to hear any of this from Aaron Rodgers going back. I don't know a month or so ago. Maybe in December. What did it take this nasty column in his opinion for him to come out and say all these nice things about Mike McCarthy and less I missed it somewhere. I don't recall any of this sentiment when McCarthy got fired with a month to go in the regular season. Now, I know Rogers bristled at being blamed for it. So he bristled at the idea that it was him who got McCarthy fired. And surely. You could jump to the idea that. Me thinks he death protests. It's too much. As in. He's trying really hard to tell you all the reasons why he and McCarthy had a great relationship. That it worked. He didn't ignore play calls and McCarthy should be appreciated. But why did it take what he calls a smear attack? For any of this to come out. He says, let's remember the amazing times that we had together. I don't again recall any of this from Aaron Rodgers over the last four months, he says Packers fans. Remember this Mike lives here. Mike has young kids here. So Mike has to be here. Think about how difficult it is for him. My favor that I would ask of you strongly is if you see Mike shake his hand tell him thanks for the memories tell him, thanks for the coaching job. He did tell him how much you appreciate him being a part of what we built here. Now, all of that is great. It's it's very generous. It's very. Kind and compassionate. But how come he didn't say any of this before it might have been helpful? Potentially keeping some of his former teammates and front office guys from giving their opinions about the relationship. Maybe or maybe not we all love good inside scoop, especially when it's candles when it's got dirt on household names. Just the part that McCarthy responded to his massages and his office, but not anything else. We're trying to get permission to use the audio from ESPN Milwaukee. Hopefully, we will. But I have no doubt that this audio will make its rounds in the next couple of days, and it will be everywhere. "One with Packers coach Matt leflore one with new jets coach Adam gays, and we will play the best of those coming up for you over the next three hours. Chris Simms in studio for the final two hours. Some of the other issues subsiding a little bit. Although the one up the road to me in Pittsburgh continues to bubble up via social media. We'll talk about that coming up talk about a coordinator change in Florida that could shape the quarterback movement in the next two months and in less than two months. The free agency market will indeed open, but the focal point the conference championship games. The first injury reports came out yesterday. Remember, I said on Monday, maybe also on Tuesday, we need to watch the Wednesday report from the chiefs to see if there's any hint of any issue any problem with chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He had that scary moment on Saturday against the colts. He came up limping a little bit. It looked like that knee wanted to buckle. He's not on the report at all not mentioned in any way, shape or form, which means he's not injured because at a minimum. What would you expect to see is that he fully participated in practice with the knee injury disclosed that would mean he's received some sort of treatment? That's how it gets disclosed. When it doesn't affect your practice wraps. Why's it on their? Well, it's on there because there is an injury that he's getting treatment for but it's not affecting his practice. Not even that. It's not even to that level. It's not even the minimum level of disclosure. He's fine, no treatment. No, limitations. Patrick Mahomes was fine. On wednesday. The patriots only have one name on their injury report. I assume it's Deatrich wise because he missed the the Sunday game against the charge. And he was the only guy on the report when they went into that weekend. The saints have a few guys who missed practice to who missed and three were limited three offense lineman limited Keith Kirkwood who caught the first touchdown against Philadelphia missed practice along. With Benjamin Watson veteran tight end. Who's pulling the train into the station for the Rams there were no injuries reported at all very rare that you see a clean sheet on a Wednesday. Now, they had a through. But still when you have a walk-through, they give you an estimation of what the actual limitations or missed practices would be nobody missed nobody limited and that was significant because Todd Gurley supposedly was going to be limited this week in practice. Sean McVay said so and then when the report comes out, no injuries listed, and that means. Girlies knees fine. He didn't even get a full participation knee. He's not getting treatment. He's fine. Now, it could flare up again. And that's the thing about this need that flared up a few weeks ago and flared up in week one without any specific injury or trauma to it. It could swell. It could become stiff it could be a problem. That's the knee in which he had a tornado at Georgia. But that's something that for now, not an issue at all. And that's great news for the Rams between girly and C J Anderson. One two punch in the backfield that we're ready to go when they head down to the Superdome. It was seventeen years ago when they played the patriots in the Superdome in Super Bowl thirty six now the returned to the Superdome for birth in what would be their first Super Bowl appearance since then. That was the first one the patriots won. And that was at a time when nobody really expected the patriots when they were huge underdogs. They were underdogs to get there. They had won the snow globe game at home against the raiders. And they went to Pittsburgh, and they beat the Steelers and the Rams were still the greatest show offs on turf. And. The patriots. Remember, they was the first time that a team was introduced to as a team like what is this and how we don't have individual introductions anymore at the Super Bowl because they all want to be introduced as a team because it worked for the patriots. And what else is going to work for the patriots is this notion that they're the underdogs that no one believes in everybody thinks we suck Tom Brady said after Trump's thing the chargers on Sunday Brady was asked by reporters on Wednesday for his reaction to being an underdog in the conference championship game. I don't think about it too much. People might say or think, but it's a very good football team. Yeah. You buy that? No, I'm not buying it. Because we know they're trying to make an issue out of it. Of course, I'm not buying. I don't buy anything. Anyone says they're trying to make an issue out of it. They just don't want to overdo it publicly. And I think he knows that they have found the sweet spot within the locker room to convince everyone that it's us against them. If they talk too much about it publicly, then it'll be too much evidence in ammunition out there for people to say, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. This is all crap is all Bs. Who's out there that doesn't believe in the patriots? Everybody believes in the patriots. Everybody knows that the patriots can win. Everybody has seen the patriots. When now there are a lot of people who sick at the patriots. And would like to see them lose. They don't want them in the Super Bowl. We had a poll earlier this week that had nearly forty thousand votes, and there was a huge gap in the four permutations that can happen for the Super Bowl. Chiefs. Saints chiefs Rams both near forty percent. Patriots. Saints patriots Rams down in single digits for patriots. Rams. Nobody wants the rematch of Super Bowl thirty six except for maybe some some people connected to the Rams because they're already talking about the cheating of the patriots. And how they cheated allegedly practice who both thirty six when they take the walkthrough practice of the Rams. So they knew everything the Rams were going to do remember that bubbled up right before Super Bowl forty two. The Boston Herald had that big report on the Friday before the game. And as legend has it. The patriots ended up wasting a ton of time that Friday and Saturday meeting with the league the league had to get to the bottom of that rabbit hole. Right. Then as the patriots are trying to go nineteen and the patriots have never used it as an excuse. But that's a hell of a distraction have dropped onto your team. Two days before Super Bowl. Boston Herald eventually attracted to, but there are still people who believe that. There was cheating Marshall Faulk still believes it. Kurt Warner talks about it from time to time dick for meal, and Eric Dickerson have talked about it. More recently. So. That rematch. I think would be intriguing if it were to happen. We'd hear a thing or two about Rams patriots cheating by the patriots allegedly retracted by the Boston Herald, I don't wanna get sued this morning or within the statute of limitations period. That would be triggered by any defamatory statements made this morning somebody made a comment on Twitter last night that I think makes sense all the players who have passed through all the coaches who have passed through New England over the years, if there was some type of institutional cheating wouldn't somebody have said something by now. Wouldn't there be? Just some cleansing of the soul. Wouldn't somebody have said this is what they did? This is what we did. This is what I did you'd like to thank somebody hundreds of names. And I'm sure that there are people who left on bad terms. There was the one guy what was his name Matt wall. So that was the only one and that was the one that the herald talk to and then. Then that all went away. And it was retracted that was bad for the herald. It was it was almost so bad that like the patriots were just gonna own the herald like just hand over the keys. That's it. Jillian element has posted tweets of a bet against us t shirt the words hashtag bet against us. Or inside of the Pat patriot the flying Elvis logo not that good logo the logo. They've used for the last twenty five years or so they had that logo somewhere between twenty they had the old. Pat patriot. Getting ready to snap the ball at some point. They switched to that flying Elvis. I think early nineties. That's the logo shape. It's got better against us inside of it. The weather's going to be an issue.

"They're like, why am I gonna listen to this, dude? Because none of the people that I reference Zac Taylor. Matt leflore cliff Kingsbury, Adam gays, Freddie kitchens. None of them have full control. Which makes it tough. It's tough when you don't have full control because you have to have the right guy for the job to be able to pull off being offensive minded head coach yet still captivating and capturing the whole football team. It's a very difficult skill. And I think Sean McVeigh has done that to some degree. But the fact that. Working your way through experience maybe having worked in scouting a little bit. And then gotten your break and coaching and really found your way as a coach and understanding the business of professional football. Your head coach has to have a grasp on that. And how many of these guys are just going to be trying to align? Their staff win over the players, install their offensive system to really be a part of or have a voice when it comes to scouting putting together the draft board. What do they really know about that business a football? See because what happens is when you get a new head coaching getting new general manager people get punch drunk with their ability to spend money. Let's make no mistake about it. The Cleveland Browns are going to go out and spend like drunken sailors now. So we'll the colts even though they made the playoffs. But a lot of these teams are going to go out, and they're going to spend money, Tom producer, Tom your big jets fan. Are you not? I am. Unfortunately, do you want them to go spend fifteen million dollars a year and bring in Latvian bell. I don't. Actually. Okay. And those are the kinds of moves the teams like these are going to really think long and hard about doing. Because all we gotta keep up with the Joneses. We gotta put together a group like Sean McVeigh has if we think this guy's are Sean McVay that we need to go out and get this that and the other. Maybe the Cleveland situation works out a little differently. Because Freddie kitchens is tied into Baker Mayfield. Now that also is another dangerous precedent to set. Here's the way, I view it. I think Baker Mayfield has that kind of personality where maybe he would go in and stump for Freddie, kitchens to be the head coach. And because he's got some stroke. And let's be honest now Cleveland is stunk for such a long time. Maybe they're like, okay. Why wouldn't we listen to this guy? Whereas, and Tom you told me if you think I'm wrong, but I think what the jets Sam darnold has approached this as okay, if you ask me, I'll tell you. I'm not gonna go stump for anybody necessarily. However, maybe here are my thoughts and let me help recruit other guys to come here in this situation. Like to me, it looks like in Cleveland the quarterback is dictating some terms whereas in New York the quarterback is hey, I'm here to help. And I'm here to. To be a part of the team not to be the one here to be the my Sean call all the shots. Am I wrong on that? Is that the way you view it as a jets fan? I agree. I think you're exactly right. But I'm not sure that it's based on their personalities. I think it's based on the fact that Baker found some real tangible success and energize that whole city, so he had the leverage to make a more of a push for his guy. Whereas Donald doesn't have a guy. And he was you know, he's not if you think so you think if darnold have had leverage he would he would exert on them more of his thoughts. That's interesting because because I like, I don't feel him as that kind of guy. Like, I can't like it terms of Adam gays. I could see them saying, hey, what do you think about that engaged in him going? Yeah. Okay. The may good. You know, we played them in Miami. I can work with this guy. He's done stuff with quarterbacks verses Sam darnold like kicking in maccagnan's Dohrn going. God dang it. You'd better hire. This will make your life miserable turnaround walked out. Of the room. Now, he's not doing that. Yeah. I don't I don't think so either. And then there is John Elway. What's the Denver Broncos who hires the old veteran coach in Vic Fangio and for me out? Oh by you, guys. But with Denver, it feels like whatever John LA does it's going to be wrong because he anybody can sign Peyton Manning. What he hasn't been able to find the right guy since? And to me, that's you know, with Denver. I'm skeptical. What they do because I don't know of John Elway can pick his nose. In Green Bay. I don't I don't get Matt leflore at all fours, bad coach. I just don't know that guys rate to be a leader of men and not just twenty five ban on offense. I'm talking about all fifty three and the guys on the practice squad. And then you had Tampa Bay. Now, the Tampa Bay situation, I think is a little different. And this is probably more prototypical NFL in that. I think Tampa is going to do a bridge deal with Jameis Winston because look the GM Jason light is still there. So that general manager is tied into that quarterback. And this is my total guests on this. And I haven't talked to anybody about it. But because the GM is still tied into the quarterback. The general manager found a coach who likes the quarterback coming out of college, and they can go to the owner and say look, or here's the reason why we know that Jamison Papa we know that he has a profile here in the state of Florida. We don't want to completely give up on him since he was such a high pick. Let's bring in this guy to make it work to me. It feels like Jason light. And then management group in Tampa was like, okay. This is the guy to give us our best chances. Do something with James swinson. If it doesn't happen all our asses or fired anyway. Quickly on Antonio Brown. If Mike Tomlin doesn't change the way he runs his locker room and set sets expectations for his players off of this latest with Antonio Brown. Then that's on him. And he will be fired at some even though his record is unbelievable. He can't continue to go about allowing the players do what they do say what they say think what they think he has the button up. He has the button up that operation. He's got a shutdown that ship a little bit and sort of reboot himself as a head coach and set different expectations for people in that organization and the way they conduct themselves, finally, boys. We have this. Apparently, Costco is selling a massive like plaster looking big plaster bucket full of macaroni and cheese that apparently will last twenty years. I tweeted this out at the real, gresh if you'd like to find it. I tweeted to my wife and said this last week in our house 'cause my kids love MAC and cheese. I think MAC and cheese is disgusting. I also think that peanut butter and jelly is gross too. So that makes me a little weird. But billy. I go to Billy. I because I would envision Billy sending on a Saturday night with a giant fork eating this MAC and cheese out of this plaster bucket watching that's basketball more like well. I mean, you got the nets basketball part, right, but more like an afternoon snack type of thing. Oh, interesting. I'm not sure how you think. It's disgusting. I mean, it's cooked noodles. Here's here's the problem with it, Billy. It's when it's like cooking or you heat it up in the microwave in you hear like when you stir it 'cause you know, you don't you? Sturdy heated up in the microwave. Right, right. And you hear the moist -ness of it all Yuk God. It makes me cringe. Do you like pasta? I do. However that process to me seems to be a little different because of the red sauce, and you need to cook it a little bit. So that it sticks to it like with MAC and cheese. It's just a bunch of noodles slander than cheese. Exactly. What's not to like about that? Hold on please overrated. I really only like mozzarella cheese and maybe a little bit of parmesan. But otherwise, I'm not a big cheese guy. So why don't you do MAC and cheese the Matz? What's the point? I just say if I'm gonna use much somebody's they'll pull them pizza on unnecessarily. You gotta get creative crush producer, Tom. Do you have an I do you have any thoughts on this year, MAC and cheese guy, especially getting a big value? Bucket of it at Costco. Absolutely, not if it's a really good MAC and cheese, like a manchego or a Fontana or something. Like that some interesting creamy. Jeez. Mix one thing but made in California. Powdered orange cheese that comes in a little oh. Now all four now. I'll tell you guy who have an opinion on MAC and cheese coming up. That's Jodi MAC up next on many of these same CBS sports radio stations. Good job by billion, Tom. Thank you, America. Got a little contentious today. I like that chiefs have a lead getting ready to head into halftime here. Keep an eye on that. And we'll talk about it.

"Are you going to mention that Arizona thing? Joining update stuff. Oh, are we to say now Vance Joseph Denver, Bronco coach? You got fired very good defensive coach is now the defensive coordinator for cliff Kingsbury, which I like and they're also finalizing a deal. According to mort Chris Mortensen great guy to bring Sark over to be the offensive coordinator. So that's an interesting staff in Arizona. It is. I think cliffs a risky higher. But you give you give them a big time defensive coordinator guy knows what he's doing. And then you bring in a guy has been in the NFL NFL guys a coordinator. Now, the Arizona staff with cliff makes a little sense. I like that. That's now at least that's now fun to watch. That's not man overboard. Well, that was that was always my concern with Kingsbury. Concerned with all of these young kids Cleveland, and well, not even young inexperienced coaches put people around you that have experience and know what they're doing and have a proven track record. I think it's big part of what has made Sean McVay successful. Let's go to Greg Jennings via the coward global satellite network. Decade. The Super Bowls pro bowls. Let's talk about the Packers because cliff Kingsbury I didn't love the higher. But I do like Vance Joseph now a grownup defensive Sark's been in college. And pro I feel better today the Green Bay thing with Matt leflore, Greg. He's been a play caller for one year. It wasn't a great year in Tennessee. I don't, you know, again, people think I'm anti Packer. I don't love it. It feels weird to me. Your thoughts. Yeah. I I didn't love it. I think it was occurred ball a huge curveball that no one saw coming. And quite frankly, when when when you look at why they're saying that he was the interesting and intriguing higher, and I'm sure that this isn't just everything that they put their eggs in the basket be because of but it was not known that. Well, he and he was going to keep Mike Patton at as defensive coordinator. So we like that about him. And I thought to myself. If you're gonna hire a guy just hire Mike pen and then get your own. Why would you why would you bring in a whole head coach because he said he's gonna keep your defensive coordinator. I I don't know how much they're really. So obviously there are sold on him. But I have some red flags, and he he's gonna have a huge huge microscope on him like magnifying glass. It's it's going to be an interesting year for the by the way, let let me just ask you about the young guys is that. I mean, a veteran NFL players thirty four some of these coaches are thirty four there is this sense that if you ever had a beer with Sean McVay, you get a job interview. What do you make of the whole McVay tree? Well, I it's it's an interesting dynamic. You have a young coach who has been around great coaches for a long time in Sean McVay the John gruden's in in those type of offensive minds, but he's still hasn't proven to win in the playoffs. However, you have all these organizations who loves what he has provided or a young team with a young quarterback with a with a fresh mindset offensively and innovative mindset in it's intriguing. And so we everyone's looking at this in Sean McVay like, well, if they did it with McVeigh, maybe we can do it with our higher. So you see all these kind of random hires that no one ever saw company. But one thing that McVeigh understood which is what you were talking about before you had me on with clings bird. Is he a? He accompanied his staff with Wade Phillips, a proven defensive mine. Head coach who had been around for a long time to kind of balance what he was getting ready to do. And I liked that about what John McVeigh has been able to do. Kennedy's other coaches manic fats in create a staff that makes them better that pools, even more out of them will see the Sean McVay coaching tree is definitely more of a weed than it is an actual tree at this point. You couldn't be more excited. He's a great football. Coach got a great understanding from offensive football. Really, a very, you know, he says such a great guy where cares about people. He's going to be honest with this communication, and then he's going to be invested in working really hard and try to help put guys in good spots. This is after hours with Amy Lawrence the endorsement, Sean McVeigh hottest name in the NFL head coaching searches right now, even though he's not actually available. I just got this funny. Tweet from Pete who says don't give cincy any ideas on coaches. I can already see them going after someone who went to elementary school with Sean McVeigh. But he does know Matt leflore he did not have Matt calling plays his first year in Los Angeles. But leflore was the offensive coordinator there with the Rams and then moved on to play calling an OC duties under my Rabaul for the last year with Tennessee. And now he is the new head coach of the Green Bay Packers. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS, sports radio we're pleased to welcome from the fan in Milwaukee. "Your broadcast more. I could be biased, and that's fine. Before I get to the game because I do wanna get to the game. And all the stuff that transpired there. The Kingsbury news, obviously is rocked LA. Because now US's like what do we do? What was your reaction to the Kingsbury thing? Him going to the cardinals. Now. I was a little surprised just in general because I feel like this is an interesting trend that we're looking at right now. Matt leflore just took the head coaching job with the Packers a guy who isn't necessarily a proven commodity just yet guy had a great season in LA couple of years ago, or I would have been last season twenty seventeen as as a QB coach, Sean they didn't have a great year as the OC in Tennessee this season, point wise. I think there were twenty six to twenty seven in points. I feel like everybody's looking for the next, Sean. And I as great of a coordinator, Sean has been remember he's been doing this since he was in his mid twenties, and he's doing it at a high level. And obviously it's worked out great where it's a great combination of elements. Great great young quarterback that vibes with the head coach. I see it in Chicago right now, though, Matt Nagy is a little bit older and more experienced but a first time head coach with a young quarterback the team bible with him. I feel like that's what a lot of GM's now. And a lot of organizations are. Facing? They're chasing the hot young commodity who has some kind of track record with quarterbacks who they feel can vibe with a potentially young group of players. And this isn't AirAsia team that could have young quarterback is their franchise player for the next couple of years in Josh Rosen. They've done a lot of drafting on the offensive side of the ball. And they've done the same thing on the other side. So I'm assuming that's kind of what teams are looking for. That's what the jets were. Maybe looking for. We got a young guy in Sam darnold. We've got a young core that maybe we can build up with a young head coach who's hot who's got a little bit of a swag to him. I think that's what maybe a lot of teams are searching for right now. And I don't know if that's necessarily what's going to win you gain. John McVeigh is is a little bit of a supernova right now. And it's not that doesn't necessarily mean that that's the wool that might be exception that proves the rule that you still need head coaching experience at this level or some coaching experience at this level to success. Awful at it. I'm curious to see how it plays out. Because of what this trend is looking like, but I think the big thing Adam is that one school is still left at the altar now, and what do they do, and that's USC and they've got to figure out the offense coordinator situation, and I know you've seen this program throughout the season..

"For us though. Cheesehead news. Tony the Packers of hired Matt leflore to be their head coach gala floor. Mat leflore he was most recently offensive coordinator and play caller for Marcus mariota in Tennessee with the results weren't great. Mostly leflore was hired because he's been touched by both Kyle Shanahan as Sean McVeigh. Who are both of course, geniuses and residents in office of football. Tony are you all in or your usual skeptical self on this higher is thirty nine years old? He's only four years older than Aaron Rodgers who is now going to coach. And by the way, I don't know if this happened, but I certainly hope that Arron Rogers says. Okay to this and thought it was a good idea. Because if that didn't happen, that's lunacy. I have this thing about people who sit next to genius where I don't think it necessarily rubs off. I, you know, their baseball managers. I can talk about like that. So so he sits next to Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay in Washington. And then he goes with shannahan to Atlanta. He doesn't go with college Shanahan to San Francisco goes to Sean McVay, -nother -nother genius. But when he goes on his own when he's not touching those people, and he goes to Tennessee the results aren't as good. They regressed a little bit. So my answer is I don't know. Can he do it on his own? I don't know. Let me just ask the question here because I know McVeigh's too great regular seasons and Shanahan is son of a guy who probably ought to be in the coachee hall of fame at some point Cheshire, either young Shanahan or young McVeigh. How much they won how many titles how many rings zero so far playoff games? Well, shutting a coordinator at Atlanta, certainly yet coach what off games, I don't think. So you're not know just start. I'm just saying I I understand the of all the leagues and all the leaves are copycats in some form or another look at Golden State and of the three point shooting this come since then, but the NFL's seems like more than the others in which they're searching, they're all searching for the next Bill Walsh. No one is found the next Bill Walsh. Or Joe Gibbs and be the most recent guys out there. I guess so I know the search, but now you don't even have to win anything. In. This guy's case. What they're hoping for is. Of course that he is the guys he sat next to for a while. You don't know. But you're giving a young guy a chance they give a young chance in Chicago. He looks right now. Okay. How many No no? doing okay. But he's clip one might ask if you were all in or little skip. I'm a little skept. He too little schedule. That's my little for awhile there last week cliff. Kingsbury was reportedly being blocked by his employer USC from interviewing for NFL coaching jobs. Now, he is unblocked according to Peter Schrager of FOX in the NFL network. He's going to be the next head coach of the Zona cardinals Kingsbury head coaching experience to this point consists of six years at Texas Tech where he was thirty five and forty will von one of your many home teams and one of your many homes in Arizona is kings, very worthy of this job. It's the same question is depends on whether he can get Josh Rosen directed in a way that he's going to be a great quarterback. And by the way, he's got some weapons. His David Johnson running back, if he can stay healthy, and he might want to convince Larry FitzGerald, stop, dealing golf course. People will bind Kornheiser and stay unknown. Yes. I know you mid thirties you go into the hall of fame in the first valid you walk. He needs to convince him to stay. You're out of your your on. Really what if you can't use this all those together, the no he's not worth? It's Gerald is seminal Augusta. Stop. That's what he should do those great places play football. What's interesting about this Kingsbury is a great looking guy..

The jets are also reportedly interested in talking with him in other news lean bay the Packers found their new head coach Matt leflore sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter and robbed him off sqi. The thirty nine year old spend this past season his office coordinator Bob explains why the Packers pig leflore. Thirty nine year old the floor one over the Packers with his expertise on offense. And the idea that he'll be able to get Rogers back to an MVP level and back to another Super Bowl. As one source said getting Rogers to mesh and buy in with the new head coach was the most important thing in making the higher and the Packers brass love. What leflore did as Matt Ryan quarterbacks? Coach in Atlanta where Shanahan was the offensive coordinator. And as Jared goff's offense coordinator with the Ran's where McVeigh was the head coach and the floor got the much-needed playcalling experience last season in Tennessee as their offensive coordinator. And now he's the next Packers head coach for more has her stakes. All right. Looks like Aaron Rodgers will have himself an offensive guy quarterbacks. Coach there in the leflore. Ryan Clark in house. "Are brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones. Best networks, no contracts. We'll get into a lot of stuff on in regards to the NFL. There's a new coach in Green Bay Matt leflore offense of former carpets coordinated now. For the Tennessee titans. He's going to be the new head coach for Rogers and a Green Bay Packers. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have offered the head coaching job to Bruce areas. The former head coach with the Arabs ONA cardinals. We'll get into all of that as the show progresses. But the first order of business is obvious. And it's the national championship game that took place last night. Santa Clara, California. The Clemson Tigers led by Daboh Sweeney. Oughta raining defending national champions the first team to go fifteen in. Oh and win a national championship in college football since eighteen ninety seven that team. The Clemson Tigers that they won the championship is not a surprises. Second national title in four years. They've been the college football playoffs all for years. It's not a surprise that. They won the national championship somewhat of a surprise because of the dominance in which we talked about the crimson tide from Alabama. There is no doubt about that. But fashion and the manner in which day one. This straight beat down of Alabama should give us all cores to pose this kid Trevor ours, a true freshman twenty and thirty two three hundred forty seven yards three touchdowns not a single interception. He looked absolutely sensational so much so that if the draft the NFL draft if he was eligible to be in at this share chances are he'd go number one overall he'd go number one overall. That's how you have to look at this. I gotta tell you something. It was a special performance. It was also a special form. It's by this kid Justin Ross six receptions, one hundred fifty three yards a seventy four yard touchdown to you Higgins, wasn't no joke. Ethan had three researches for eighty seven yards including a sixty two yard touchdown. I mean, you just look at these brothers and away Ella? Bama. Played last night. It was something special. Hope there is no way around it. You can slice. It any way you want to Nick Sabin the great Nick Sabin. All you'll be the greatest coach in the history of college football. Look punchdrunk. Looked completely lost. There's no way around this. I looked at him on a on a sideline set quotas. Like what the hell's going audience? I could not believe what I was watching. I could not believe what I was seeing. Travis at the running back three touchdowns. Ross one hundred fifty three receiving yards. I told you about Higgins forgot, Amari Rogers. I mean, it was a straight bit bum. Rush beat Alabama with tour. Ola school is in the second half. Three hundred hundred and ninety seven yards rather cover touchdowns also to a couple of interceptions in the first half. Also to a pick six to start off the game. So we got all of that. But I'm here to tell you right now forty four to sixteen straight drubbing. There's a new era in college football. I know Nick save. It's got six national titles. Nick Sabin especial and nothing nothing to deny that. But over the last four years. Clemson and ala Bama on top with fifty four wins and five losses. Four losses. I'm sorry. Over the last four years each of them have made it to the college football players off for years and over the last four years, they split national titles to to. I can make the argument to you right now that Clemson winning last night in the fashion that they want is the best thing to have happened the college football because you see bin ala Bama and everybody else and nobody's guilty. At than me. I went on. I take television most ago, and I ranked my top five teams in college football. And I said Alabama number five ala Bama number four. Bama number three. Bama number two. Burma number one. Coach Clinton was joking about it a couple of days ago. Steven as Senate Beth Alabama five four three two what? Yeah, I said it. And I was wrong. Period. This all the way to slice this. I mean Daboh sweetie right now when you consider the fashion in which they beat down Alabama..

"I would have had more time to organize. My thoughts decide how I wanted to deal with it. Should I try to get together? An interview with a couple of people who know the guy she take calls and so forth, and so on well, I'm making this up as I go along here. And I made the decision that I don't wanna take call reaction to this. Because I frankly don't think there's probably two or three people out there who may know a lot about the guy. It has something to say. But let's be honest. There has been almost no input from most Packer fans. And this list of candidates because I think most people didn't know what to think if you had three or four people who are head coaches in the NFL, and they were your finalists out there at a guy fired from this guy this guy over here. It's a lot easier for people to be able to react to then. A bunch of people who've been working as offensive coordinators are maybe a defensive coordinator Brian flory's, the New England linebackers coach is on the list. It's real hard for fans to offer really anything intelligent there. And I get why that is because everyone even the most knowledgeable person it's going to be running a little blind in trying to figure out what's going on with an assistant at another team. What I do want to do is spend one more segment before moving on to a couple of other topics. Some thoughts on the Packers into higher. Matt leflore thirty nine year old offensive coordinator for the Tennessee titans. I want I decided that I made some quick notes here during the newscasts to organize this into reasons to be optimistic and reasons to be concerned reasons to be optimistic one of the things that strikes me about his background. And he's continued to move up. You could say well these job jumper. Well, that's what happens in the NFL the way keep will get fired, right and left. If you're on somebody's staff, you're gonna leave too. But his moves have always been upward. He's had a pretty quick trajectory here. And Secondly, the teams that he's been involved with all wit. It's hard to find a better less than teams that have made quick turnarounds. Then Atlanta, Los Angeles and Tennessee every one of those teams was essentially struggling before leflore joined the organization and has gotten better since even the titans missed out on the playoffs this year by only one game. The Rams organization was one that was showing hints of being good for the longest time. Sean McVeigh came in and he made his his coordinator, Matt leflore. Now, I did a little bit of background checking here and trying to gain a little bit more information, and apparently McVeigh was very very high Adam and was not upset that mcflurry floor left as his offensive coordinator to go off to another team. You think that you would if you're the head coach your offensive coordinator says hey, boss, I'm gonna to quit and go to another team to be their coordinator. But apparently McVeigh gave the blessing to leflore saying, hey, I understand you want to call the plays here with the Rams. I'm going to be the play caller. So we went from being the offensive excuse me the offensive coordinator at a team. We didn't call the plays certainly very prominent developing the game plan and working with the quarterback to going and working with a new team can see where the offense will certainly not dynamic was significantly improve this year when he was with Atlanta and was the quarterback coach there Matt Ryan setting all sorts of records for putting a passing numbers. So I think if you wanna take a look at his track record of what he's done, that's reasons to be very very positive. Next threes. It'd be optimistic. It doesn't look like he's going to change the offense. Does anything I've learned about when teams hire new coaches, especially college. But also the pros when they come in. And they change the system it always takes a tour three year transition. Leflore is a disciple of the Shanahan's and they run their version of the west coast offense. The Packers have been running the west coast offense really ever since. Mike Holmgren came up here. You do it in there. Fell off his chair. Do you have any input? The you oughta make into this. I mean, we pop in and offer something your Paul Paul said, he loved this. I the next thing you with the west coast offense thing one of the Knox. I had on Josh mcdaniels who both Paul and I felt would be a bad decision selection for the Packers the offensive coordinator at New England is that it would have meant likely changing the offense England is not run the west coast offense. Bella check doesn't believe he runs a different type of offense. That's much more intent on they call it vertical throwing the ball downfield. He doesn't believe in this Dink and dumped Inc and dump Dinka dump which is the hallmark of the west coast offense this use the running backs through off to the side slant pattern, so wide and just kill these teams. And then when the defense finally comes up, and you know, challenges the receivers go along and try try to kill a spectacular offense. And it's really worked well ever since Bill Walsh, invented it. It's. The only offense Aaron Rodgers is plated. If they come in, and they tried a completely different approach. Maybe that would have been worthwhile. When Rogers was twenty seven not when he's thirty five changing. The system would have been a bad thing. Now, obviously, this is not going to be the same system. Mike McCarthy runs, but it's going to be the same type of concept that sort of west coast offense concept that they have the fact that he's been connected to some of the best minds in football. You take a look at some of the lists of people both Shanahan's, Mike Shanahan's alleged his son. Kyle may not be the greatest head coach in the world that undoubtedly he's an offensive guru. Sean McVay is probably if you wanted to look at the gold standard for hiring a young coach when the Rams hired a couple of years ago that would be one. So he's hit somebody who has had the respect of some really really sharp people in football. I'm glad they didn't do the thing that you see so often higher the guy that comes to the team that just had the one good season. You see this all the time team comes out of nowhere has one good year. You hire that person. Well, there's more of consistency here with regard to the floor and in terms of well, Tennessee, wasn't that great of a team this year. Again, he was only there the one year if they had a new head coach and Mike gravel if we're able and they did turn that team around. They did go nine and seven this year. So those are the positives. The downside the negatives. The biggest one is the obvious one. The Packers are in a win now mode. Aaron Rodgers is toward the end of his career. They're gonna try to squeeze the lemon and see if they can't get one more run at a Super Bowl with Rogers as the quarterback you're bringing in a guy who has never done this job before at a time in which the Packers. Can't afford a learning curve. That would be the first red flag that I would start site the second he has no experience at all any any type of guiding of an organization when you're an offensive coordinator or a quarterback position coach. And so on you don't run the team meeting and deal with the defense. You don't deal with the special teams coach you don't go to the spa. You don't go and size up, which of your assistance need to be fired. You don't handle all of the problems that are societas with running an organization like this. That's a red flag. And then I would say just generally the fact that everybody's hiring the same type of guy of him. I don't know that I liked that unbalanced. I think they've made a good decision. And as I said on the program late last week of the candidates that were on. And I obviously you could say, well, they should have hired this guy that they'd never considered. Well, they didn't ever consider of the people that were known to be on this list of people. The Packers were looking at. I thought to stood out leflore and Adam gays who was just fired by Miami. And I would have been okay with either of the two could prove to be wrong. But I would have been okay with either of the two. We'll be sleep over that Paul. Yeah. He when Matt Ryan said his broke records for passing efficiency he was as quarterback coach. And you'll note that Atlanta wasn't much of anything after that operation after that operation left in the same situation happened when he went to Los Angeles and was hands on with Jared Goff. Jared Goff went emerged into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. So. I would think this in assembling a staff. There are some indications. Now, it looks like he's going to keep bike Patten as the defensive coordinator in assembling the offensive staff and hiring special teams coach. I would hope he gets at least one more person on that staff with head coaching background. You know, they have these titles like associated head coach. That's the one that Winston moss held person that does a lot of the stuff of the administrative being as young as he's been and never having been a head coach. I don't you know, the interviewed Pagano. The interview Caldwell for this position bringing in somebody like that to work on the staff who has head coaching experience. I think would be an important thing for the floor. To do. Paul.

"On that. By the way, will dress that in a minute we have hot NFL. I was gonna say did you see that? I deny Adam Schefter just tweeted out the Packers are zeroing in on hiring titans. Offensive coordinator, Matt leflore has their head coach sources talent robbed him off skin me. Packers have begun notifying other head coaching candidates. Dave interviewed that they're out and the team has made its choice. He's a young kind of Matt Nagy type rights. I don't believe he's. Former patriots guy. Tune while he was the offensive coordinator for Sean McVay last season before he took the titans jar. Yeah. Before he took the time. He was either quarterbacks coach for the Rams and then became the head. Tennessee. Yeah. Yeah. So yes. Actually the Rams a year ago in seventeen he was the falcons quarterbacks coach fifteen through sixteen and he was back at Notre Dame as the quarterbacks coach in twenty fourteen. So Matt leflore looks like he's going to get the Packers job. Yeah. So a lot of these jobs will start filling up and Vic Fangio as we know is supposed to go out to dinner tonight with John Elway in Chicago, real quick to get back to the callers point Khalil Mack. Ended up the game with six tackles only roquan Smith had more. He had one tackle for a loss. He had a couple of quarterback hits. It wasn't a Khalil Mack multi sack game. But I think you're under selling his importance in how he played on that game. Based on him not having a strip sack or I agree. I if you watch the film, and maybe we will see this from like Baldy or someone else. I still think you'll watch the film in say he had a major impact on again, these are professional Jason peers is a multi time pro bowler lane Johnson is a multi time pro bowler. They're center Kelsey is is was an all pro this year. I mean, it is a very talented offensive line. There are a little long in the tooth. And they did give up forty sacks this year. But they were rotating guys in and out at times. I think part of you has to tip your cap to them and say, look they held up pretty well against one of the most ferocious defenses in the league. If not the most ferocious defense, we're in the middle of commercial free hour, plus three one two three three two three seven seven six. If you wanna react JD is gonna join us here shortly marching Greco five thirty. I've got some played I played a plate from you from yesterday. The worst call.
