"Fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percents or more. So you're riding in you start to just write songs for a living. What was the first writer. I won't even. We'll say break that you earned. What was your first break there. Where you go okay. I'm not just now. Treading water. Like i might be able to have some success at this. Yeah I sign of. Hope was a guy named steve. Holy recorded a song. That trevor and i wrote with Our friend matt jenkins and then Really it was watching my friends. Have some success was really what gave you the real hope. Is that because you knew that you could do what they do. While i was doing what they were doing. I mean we were doing it all together. So it was like like shane. For instance he came in and played. i remember. He played the demo for somewhere with you and Kenny yeah yeah and we were just like damn like that's different. Whatever that is is the next step and it we even though we weren't writers on it. We knew that that was going to change the game for all for all of us and even now when we watch kennedy play like we sit there and go we. None of us would be here without that song because he wrote that. Kenny cut it. It changed kenny's career. And because of that me and josh osborne and trevor rosen matt jenkins brandy clark and you know. We're all in that writer circle and we get we get to reap the benefits really of of that exposure. So watching our each other succeed was really what kept us going. We were like it's not like i'm doing it but it's weird doing what about first success for you or a song actually a single like a real life. It's got a chance single. That was Wake wakeup loving. You by craig morgan. So that was the first one i can't remember. I can't remember how high went on the chart if it was taught ten or not but but it was close. Which was you know that's back. Then that's all you want is like you want top twenty and you get that you watch ten. That's it was your first. Are you watching the charts every for sure watching it all the time. I don't watch any more but when you hear that at the beginning the first time you hear it actually cut i like i like that production alarm clock. Actually it really was. Yeah yeah i did. I did that on the demo. I made a little home demo of it with that alarm clock and and they there it is and then everyone who cut it after that a couple artists cut it. Everyone used that alarm clock than just my alarm clock. A couple of cut it. But they didn't put on record keith. Keith anderson cut it. And i think it made a record for him but it wasn't a single. So what's the rule there because eric past lay. Who buddies with he wrote friday. I think friday nights. I'm thinking lady cut record there. He then said well. He didn't use the single. I want to use a single when number one for him for. I wanna be a. Is there a rule that if it doesn't go as single you can still probably cut it somewhere else to. I mean once you know want to is out once somebody cuts it. Anybody can cut so so you can put it out as a single anytime. don't you have to ask for single rights though no only one. I don't think so. No i mean you do that. One time you give you give the license out one time and once you approve it. It's it's very so you're telling me i could cut. I was on a boat. Yeah put out a single and then once it beat you. Guys is the best dreaming song life but we reap the benefits of that so aristotle is good for us all we all in is first number. One song the euro So you do for dirks belly and was that a rocket ship number one or was that a we don't know if he's going to cut it he did cut it. We don't know what's going to be on the record. We're no all of them are like that. I feel like That one was. You know talking about breakthroughs and stuff that as far as writing that song. That was one. That i was sure was something special. Really knew when you wrote it chance. You're keeping these songs. Because old dominion was maybe if we were a band at that point in signed no so even like wake up loving you was are like show closer man like to let craig morgan have. That song was a really tough decision because at that point it started to feel like maybe we were going to. We were so far away from getting signed but it felt like maybe we were going to So it was tough to kind of let that one go say you do wasn't tough for us because we we did play that song at every show and But at that point man you know we're just trying to pay the bills and and we moved here to be songwriters. Anyway that's what we wanted so So it was awesome and and he didn't incredible job. There was a moment where i was going to sing. Background vocals on it but it didn't pan out and And it was just a exhilarating feeling to hear that song and watch that song. Climb to get your first number one amazing this chainsaw from the perry road this one. Yeah was it written as aggressive. It's way more aggressive. Our version is way more aggressive. This one is the light version of it. So my dad actually. My dad actually made a comment. One time about his version is like i can kind of picture you out in the woods with like frozen snot in beard beard-cutting. It's definitely a lot more aggressive version before we get over to the old dominion stuff Exc- from sam hunt is probably in my opinion. His biggest non single song is. It wasn't a single. Everybody knows it. Brian always houses single. I kind of had to be reminded. It wasn't a single sam guy. I like sam away from work. I love sam at work. You know so but love. The song did when he cuts it again. You see if. I'm not mistaken. This was on the pre. Yes i think so. Yeah and sam. Wasn't sam hunt right but did you. When you guys wrote. It was written like. Wow this is different. This is some new territory type stuff. i mean. we knew before everyone knew that it was. You know sam hunt like riding with that guy. You're like damn. This guy is something entirely different. In what means like just his creative mind is is he attacks things at different angles so the things that come out of his mouth. You're like i don't know how you thought of that. But you know even like with making miss me throws out alone like keep slipknot in the strings. Attached like some some obscure thought like that he can make seem very palatable so this riding with him. That was a moment where you knew something big was going to happen so that song. It's funny like he. He over thinks a lot of things and to you know to his credit it works you know but he like most people you sit in the room right and at the end of the day you got the song you can write for weeks and weeks and weeks on the same song with sam. So that's what happened. I never really knew the final version of ecstasy until it came out. Like i knew what i thought it was going to whether other little changes that you heard in it. You're like oh. I don't remember that at all like talking at the end. There's like a whole like kind of down bridge where he's kinda talking and kind of cute and all this stuff up. I didn't remember any of that stuff. But i mean it's amazing. Were you surprised.

"Well carlo schools now have less than a year or remove american indian mascots. And if they don't it's going to be expensive but the fact that they're going to have to is going to be expensive as well as well. this story here. The greeley tribune talking about this. This is something we knew was coming down the pipelines but they now have eleven months to remove them or face a monthly monthly fine of twenty five thousand dollars that means changing uniforms signs paintings and hallways and even jim floors win. Democratic governor jared bowls signed Steve bill One sixteen hurt with a litter of concern about the short span and cost the school district which can run hundreds of thousands of dollars and yeah. That is such a quick turnaround. So now you're going to get a lot of people especially the way that construction is backed up and supplies or backed up. You could have the possibility of having people be in the process of changing it. Not get it done in the eleven months and they're going to have to pay the twenty five thousand dollar fine on top of the On top of the actual cost of the renovations to get it done to get the change. That's not right that shouldn't be happening Backers of the law say not only. Is it the right thing to do. American indians in colorado say many of the mascots turn their identities into caricatures but the districts also have known. This was a long time coming. Schools with these mascots could save making a change if they had an agreement with a federally recognized tribe by june thirtieth or they can apply for state building excellent schools today grant to help with costs though the process is competitive and the grants likely wouldn't be issued in time and we've got i mean this is gonna affect Schools here in northern colorado right. We've seen loveland The loveland indians changed their mascot The eaten fighting reds. What will they turn into And do they need to do. They need to be that the eaten fighting reds is that is that a derogatory term. Loveline indians is that a derogatory term. Now i can have that conversation about the lamar savages right. I mean i could have that conversation. Not sane which way i i would agree with it but i'm willing to listen on that one these other ones i don't see it as a as a caricature at all in fact the in fighting reds and especially with how much they win right but this is just another step in removing the quote unquote offensive stuff and it's removing part of our history. Is it a good part of history. No it's not anybody who says that it is is wrong but is that what we should be doing. Should we be removing the bad parts of our history. I had i had a history teacher in high school that that said if we don't learn from history it's bound to repeat itself right and that's the truth if we don't learn from what didn't work if we don't learn from our failures are mistakes. Then they're bound to repeat them were bound repeated. I don't like this. I don't like the fact that they're taking it away. The national congress of american indians has been asking for mascot changes for more than thirty years said democratic state representative. Adrian been vitas of commerce city. One of the sponsors of the new law the car legislature has also tried to pass the bill in years past but finally getting it done this year car to started its own assessment amid national discussions about the use of derogatory native american mascots and twenty sixteen state commission recommended schools should eliminate all native american mascots because of the misrepresentation and stereotypes they perpetrate perpetrate. Unless a school came to an agreement with federally recognized tribe strasbourg and arapahoe. High schools currently have agreement so the strasbourg idiots will not be changing. So why is it because okay they so they reach an agreement with one tribe in there. Okay does the fact that dave reached an agreement with one tribe make it less offensive. The loved one day needs just because they didn't reach an agreement with a try. Then that that indian that mascot is offensive but strasbourg. Oh they're fine. It goes back to some common sense and it seems to be lacking with this one The districts initial estimate for changing both mascots. We're talking about montrose highschool. The indians The district's initial estimate for changing both mascots is a combined five hundred thousand dollars to seven hundred fifty thousand dollars Though that could change mantra school district spokesman matt jenkins that would include everything from paint on the gym walls. Two scoreboards to school apparel. Well it's all going to have to happen. It's all going to have to happen because you can't have the old apparel. You can have that still there. Jacobs said the school schools have a good relationship with local tribes and try to respectful in the mascots us. There isn't one painted on the high school gym floor. But they don't have a formal agreement. The district plans to do whatever it needs to conform to the law. Yeah because twenty. Five thousand a month is is egregious Before we get an hour number two to Say thanks desert petting her clearly real estate. They real estate market is still just insane right now. Don't try and tackle this by yourself. "Dose of discipline so that they will learn the lesson that needs to be learned and it will move towards becoming self sufficient. Look i lose my patience. Sometimes i yell. Sometimes i'd get a little harsher. Say something mean that. I shouldn't say i'm. I'm not saying i don't do that. Stuff i do. And in those moments i feel bad. And i feel guilty but i really do. Try to make a conscious effort when i have the discipline my children. For whatever reason to remember why. I'm disciplining them is not because they're annoying is not because it can't you're mad and angry. Yeah it's because. I want them to win. I want them to thrive and i want them to succeed. And so a you could break young cha you could break an adult through verbal and emotional abuse manipulation and the words. You're using the things that you're saying. Let alone a child and impressionable child so we have to be very very careful. That's why i say. The minimum required dose to produce the effect about come and that's hard too because the effective outcome may be something that will only show and reveal itself in twenty years not something that's going to reveal itself today so that also creates that makes it harder because you want to correct the behavior now and some of it you. Can you know if my children for example get mouthy with their mom timeout. Think about why you're timeout. Then when you're done come back and usually even put my kids in time out. I usually don't even set a timer on timeout. I don't say good your room for fifteen minutes because the point is not fifteen minutes. Point is when you're ready to come back right dressing issue correctly or when you're even i've dismissed my children from dinner because they're being gross or crude or disrespectful and say leave your plate here go sit on the stairs and when you're ready to be a functioning member of the family. It's up to you when you're ready to do it. You're welcome to come back to the table and fix the situation have dinner with us. I usually have to have this conversation my youngest auto and so he's five and so he'll go sit on the inyo he'll be at there for two or three minutes he'll holler ready to come back now. I'm like good. Come on back. And i don't get after him. I don't make him feel stupid or bad enough yet. Comeback to the table. Is there something you'd like to tell us. Yes i'm sorry for x. y. and z. Okay to be respectful at the dinner table with all of us. Yes great sit down. Start eating yeah. I have to remember what the purposes i always look forward to an opportunity to to quote something that you've said and i'm sure you appreciate it greatly in fact send you a little little extra gift in the mail for this one. Thank you appreciate it well. Let's see what i say. I didn't say that shit up hold up wasn't gift but i didn't tell you what it would be. It's all based on what it is. You're gonna you're gonna say the you've said this numerous times. And i really opened my mind my mind to this because i i realize that sometimes i'll get immediate results and undermine the long-term plan or share this idea of like. Yeah you can yell at your kids and maybe the room gets cleaned but pause and say what do i want them to learn. Now what i want them to do right and so that has helped me a lot because i have to remind myself like okay. Actually it's not the room really that i want clean. What i want is for them to take care of their things to be orderly. Or whatever. And that. When i when i think about from that perspective you approach differently like of course mike. Longish is different. The everything is different so yup play the long game a nice coming along. Thank you appreciate america. Caveman of this is great. This pat my myself my own back. So i'm scaling my business and need find a kip sorenson to help me figure out and helped me lead it. How do i find well. My number is for higher. Find the right guys. Help you lead is what i'm thinking. The question is here. There's a lot of different ways you know if you're gonna hire somebody or if you just need somebody to mentor and coach and council with i mean look. The way that that we got connected was a mutual friend. Matt jenkins introduce you join the facebook group. You were gonna leave the facebook group because you thought it was aamer. Didn't like initially or something and then you realize that we had a podcast. So i think you start listening to the podcast. Then you join the iron council and then he became a team leader. And i actually remember vividly. We have in conversations. I was gonna say on walks. That sounds weird. Buzz let events. We would go on hikes and things like that and i'd be able to have conversations with the team leaders and i remember vividly talking with you about the stuff and i acknowledged and recognized that. Okay kip that this is an asset. This is somebody who's got some things figured out you know and so you became a team leader. He became leader mentor than i realized. There's even more that that you're capable of doing invited you to this podcast with me because we had a good rapport. You brought something to the table. That i didn't so we have disagreements always with a level of respect and moving in the right direction but we don't always see that thing the exact same.

"You perform and how you show up so adopt and embrace that mindset many of you have and quite frankly. There's a lot of you listening have not adopted that mindset and you want to play the victim card. You love that card. That's like your ace in the hole. Your trump card no pun intended is man if i can just lay down that victim card somebody in will come in and swoop down and rescue me and save me from the circumstances that i have created for myself. I know it's hard. I know it's difficult. No it takes to the ego when you have to admit that. Maybe you're not as good as you think. You are certainly have to do that quite frankly every single day and every single time i have to do it. It stinks but this is the only path to growth is accepting responsibility owning that responsibility and then making changes in your life that will enhance improve your ability to lead yourself and others well so number one take ultimate responsibility number two guys at this point and this is coming from the background of financial planning that i have but at this point. It's crucial that you get your financial house in order. I talked about this probably a month or two ago and the podcast was a friday field notes just like this one and it was titled brace for impact brace for impact in in that i had made the suggestion that you ought to pay off debt and i had a lot of people come back and say well. That's bad advice because if everything's gonna go to hell in a handbasket then why would you ever pay off debt. Does i don't think we're going to see the demise or collapse of the united states of america. At least not right now regardless of who wins. I just don't and this show isn't about fearmongering isn't about sharing just some wild controversial ideas and things like that. It's just not what the show's about the show is about dealing reality and making yourself more capable and i don't think that we're going to see the demise of the us again at least not right now. This isn't about conspiracy or anything like that or cover ups. But i do see us being in a difficult spot financially and this has been building up over the last three four five decades. And it's only going to get worse as we continue as a as a country to increase our spending to put ourselves the whims and mercy of other countries and to become independent as it comes to imports and exports. It's only going to get worse and and it will take a long time. But here's what i would suggest to. You is getting your financial house in order will always serve you set money aside get that debt out from underneath you sell off some assets or i would i would say depreciating assets get rid of those things live within your means save and invest money broadly diversified portfolios. Obviously not all in the us but broadly diversified so you can maximize your earning potential but get that financial house in order. Track everything that you're spending track every dollar that's coming in. Learn to make more money so that you can have a higher net worth set that money aside get out from under your debt Learn how to manage and deal with taxes if biden wins the election He's him and kamala. Harris flat out said that they are going to work to the tax breaks that donald trump has set into motion. That's going to impact you now. I know a lot of people say well. It's only going to impact the wealthy. I want you to be wealthy. I want you to be one of those people. And why wouldn't you want to be one of those people and even if you're not there's tax benefits to the tax cuts that have taken place over the past four years and i if that's repealed then it's not gonna just impact the wealthy. It's going to impact the middle class. Which is where i in. Most of you happen to fall into. So yeah i know it sounds really good on the surface but trust me. Your taxes are going to go up. The dollar is gonna weekend and if you don't have your financial house in order then you're going to find yourself in a very difficult situation so brace for that. Prepare for that and get your financial house in order at number three. This one is counterintuitive. I know some you guys are gonna be like what in the heck is ryan talking about. Here's what i'm telling you build up your social media presence right now build up your social media presence right now. i know. There's a lot of hubbub and talk about facebook and twitter and instagram. They're censoring posts. And i think some of that is happening. I think i've personally seen that. I'm not gonna. i'm not going to dwell on that. I'm not gonna make myself the victim because of it. I'm not gonna draw on and on about it but that is happening. But in spite of that we have this powerful powerful opportunity to connect with and bandwidth and find other men and women who we can rally together towards common objectives common purposes. Whether it's something like order of man what we're doing here or your political goals and aspirations. But i'm telling you right now that there's probably gonna come a point in time for a lot of you who are high achieving where you're going to want to tap into a network of hundreds or thousands tens of thousands even millions of individuals that you can call on for political aspirations which i'll talk about here in a minute or for business ventures or just getting a message in an idea and thought that you have in your mind out to the world where other people can rally behind that thought idea that message and i think we can use this powerful medium of social media to be able to connect with like minded people were going to be in a significantly better spot than just sitting around and not utilizing this tool now. I remember one one of my friends. Matt jenkins introduced me. He didn't introduce me to. He tried to convince me. This was years and years ago. Probably eight nine. Ten years ago that i needed to be on facebook and i was like i have no idea why would do that. Nobody cares about what i have to say. This is stupid. I don't care what anybody else has to say. And yet here. I am less than a decade later using social media as a powerful tool and medium to advance our cause and our mission. So i'm glad for social media i appreciate and i'm grateful for what social media has afforded me and i realized that the tool it can be used for productive outcomes and it can be used for destruction. But it's how you utilize it and how you use it. So i frankly guys i know again. This sounds counterintuitive. And a lot of you guys are like why do i need social media. Well you know the best place. The best time to plant a tree is before you need the shade or the best time.

"Oh crud. Now. I can't think of the character Hamilton. Yes. Yeah, we talked about this when we you and I talked about this. Well, we talked about Hamilton. Oh, okay. That's fair then nevermind home. As long as Tyrell Wayland are like generous like benevolent super corpse, then everything will be fine boiler. They're not going to be off. But yeah, I'm actually much sadder about Broadway than the yeah. I don't know why especially like I go more than once or twice a year, but like it really makes me sad that Broadway is one such a it's just classic right? I mean like so speaking of somebody who has a lot of Community Theatre background and sits on a board of the community here. We haven't done any shows that you're either so it's not just brought the death of the entire like live theater is like we haven't had a live feeder performance in so long and there are only so many things you can do with online production licences. So we could like even perform an online musical right, but you can't because as if you buy the rights to do an online job All you can do is like perform the song you can't add any sort of interpretation or performance aspect of it other than performing the song. So it makes it very difficult for them. Even like smaller Theatres to create Revenue to maintain their spaces. So I mean brought the death of Broadway is the public face of it, but you're wrong also seeing a huge layer effect underneath it to like I'm sure we could ask Matt Jenkins about how things are going. Jenkins haven't talked to Jenkins and forever cuz he's I mean he he works for a theater. Yeah, so there's just a lot to it more than just like with the premier's Stage Theatre. It's just it's all of it. This weekend has were recording you are, Conn is cancelled. Although I keep hearing of the people who run that are evil from one of our mutual friends. They are pretty evil. So it's not helping me not sit here and drink whiskey and play Candy Crush. Oh, wow. I thought we really the normal thing is that we're all drinking while we podcast right? I do not anymore. Oh, okay. I can no longer. Like I'm too old to drink and teach the next day basically ever. I'm just going to class tomorrow, so.

Even if you're not listening build those dreams. That's what I say all right Yup Walker. Good to talk to you my friend back above show. This story comes from Elkhart County Indiana. A twenty five year old man was going one hundred and twenty miles an hour on the highway when police pull up next to him and say pull over pull over. He thought they were getting hand motions. Let's race so he kept going. Oh Wow Hey. Let him on a twenty five mile chase until he pulled over and got arrested. Wait so I would assume there was alcohol involved. There had to be right. No he really there. They said he was charged with reckless driving and several moving violations but no alcohol involved. He really thought they wanted to race. Wow what don't you have to be drunk to think that though is my question. Wow I would. I have a lean on drunk. I would all right. Is that it. I'm much. That's your boneheads story. Today it's time for the good news. Johnny Morris is the founder bass pro shops and he's decided to donate one million. Fda approved face Matt's for first responders or anyone in the healthcare. That needs these face masks. I guess it's a thing right. Now that people are more facemask stepping up to do that and basically if there's an bass pro shop or Kabila's in your town. Those masks are going to those cities. Wow Hey listen we are a bass pro shop show also Eddie goes. I guess it's a thing now like the whole new like every single story on the news for the past. Two months hasn't been that. Healthcare workers need mass. Apparently there's some virus running around. I saw the tweet yesterday. Well Shoutout Bass Pro Cabela's that's awesome. Obviously we love them But making a difference. Everybody's making a difference. I love it. That's what it's all about. That was tell me something. Good every hour. We bring positively. It's called tell me something good. We've we've done it for fifteen years. I remember when we came up with this segment. Everybody Kinda told us as a dump segment we used to it at five and six o'clock in the morning only remember way back in the day. Yeah if it's definitely early early and what happened was we started doing this segment and we have something radio called research and they started testing the segment and it was like our highest testing segments. So we started doing it more because we love doing the segment. Anyway we love positively and finding a good way to look at things and so then other radio show started doing it the next thing you know. It's all over the country. Were super proud of that. And it's really become something where known for and that song is a real song that Chaka Khan tale something good it's like Rufus and Chaka Khan on the radio. I'll be at the grocery store I know here. Don't get down the down. And I'm like all that so weird but we've become known for this after fifteen years and I love it. And there's a pastor at Trinity Church in Oklahoma. His name is Brian Mills. He's a senior pastor there and he referenced in his sermon. This last Sunday ago. Now I want to give you a little update. Can I give update? Y'All y'all fired up. We gotta get a little update term. Something good is bobby bones. That's off Bobby bojars countryman. You don't listen to country. You know bobby he's from Arkansas. Something good anyways. And that's like I feel like he started rambling because he was looking on the crowd and maybe nobody knew who. He's talking about crowd. If you remember there's no it's just sitting keys and so there's the wasn't getting any bag. Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah that makes sense. I feel like I. I'm watching Church online too and I feel like my pastors. Have something similar where they don't know if what they said is it's resonating the way they thought it. Would they awkwardly keep talking well Bryan Mills? Two four seven is his name. Brian Mills. "This is who you will become at the ended the day and after all is said and done you can call yourself a man. What's up man? Good to see again good to see you another week of Ama Orion cities like really talk once a week but we get a lot done when we do talk. Yeah I don't get a lot done. We have a lot of conversations share a lot of words. I don't know if that moves anything in the right direction. We do share a lot of words. Although I for whatever reason I was kind of going through some old messages and they were from people. Oh you know sending this message is on the Ama and kind of got me fired up last night. I was like you know what this is. Good stuff and they were reaching out and telling you how how we were helping or whatever it may be exactly exactly. Yeah really needed me last night and I kinda got fired up with a good or bad is listen to this morning Andy Brazil and then I got even more fired up and I was like okay and you do that for sure. Keep your swearing to a minimum kip if you taste totally. I'm like I'm worried about a little bit of cursing I listen to him. It's like one minute I'm like. Oh my gosh shake my head. I've been pretty good about my I My lack of swearing. which is something? I'm trying to work on. I've been pretty good at it so it's been going well. I think we've been doing good overall. Yeah I think we've been doing better better. I don't know a good but better progress house that we're on we're on the path of progress in life right. Hey a couple of things before we get too much into this thing I got a message from gentleman from Brazil. His name is ED quite honestly. Can't remember he left me a a voicemail on instagram and asked if I'd give them a shot at mcgaugh course so this is to Ed from Brazil he. It was a voicemail on instagram. I'm sorry I didn't catch his last name and even if I did. I'm not sure it'd be able to pronounce it again. But Ed from Brazil you know who you are. We're glad tuning in also. Somebody had sent me a message that I thought would be pretty good as we talk today. They said it would be good to know how you and I met. And then what we like best about each other and what we like least about each other and I'm like we're not we're are not married. The wicked hug it out. Maybe afterwards right yeah. That's right so I thought as we get this thing kicked off. Let's do that so I'll give you my perspective perspective and then and then you share yours from there. How's that sound sounds great? So keep an eye met. I think kip. You're introduced through or to the order of podcast cash rather from a mutual friend. Mr Matt Jenkins you. We just heard from him a couple of days to send us both the text and I think your initial reaction to the order man. facebook group was like what in the world is. This this is. I don't need this. I'm Outta here but you did find out if I understand correctly that we had a podcast which you joined the podcast tuned into that then not long. After I joined the Iron Council became a team leader became the right hand man man if you will then we started doing this podcast and here we are. The rest is history. So we've shared that at length. I think before anything you would add to that as far as how we meant no I I I think I listen to that. I don't even remember what the first episode was but I remember listening to the first episode because I thought that facebook group was like something the Matt Adamy too and is like my way of supporting him. So I'm like okay. Asher all join in their neighbor. Yeah all these messages and unlike what the crap crap I'm GonNa unsubscribe because this is too loud too much noise for me and then I happen to see you make a post about a podcast and I thought Oh a podcast. That's cool also. I listened to episode and it only took one I listen to one episode is like this is really good stuff and then I immediately just maybe this his part of my personality but I downloaded them all started from episode one and for like a few weeks I was just pounding through episode so I could catch up up but I wanted to have the history if that made sense and through that process. Learn about Aaron Council from you talk about it in the on the podcast and immediately knew like man. I got to join these guys at the time. You announced the first uprising. And it conflicted with something I wanted to do. It was like Dang it and so price number two obviously joined and yes history right after that. So it's been great man it's been it's been an honor to be a member of the ICU. Let alone to help. Progress the movement forward. So it's been an honor to have you for sure. What do you remember for the very first episode that you listened to by ants? I don't I don't I I know I wish I would've made note of it. You of some sort. But you wouldn't no no you didn't know what you don't also it's not like some but this is back in the day win. You only did the interview shows on Tuesdays right so it was an interview with was someone. I don't remember that interesting. Yeah all right. Well let's get into the second component of this question which is what do you what do you appreciate or admire him. And I'm just paraphrasing here. appreciator Meyer about each other. And what is one thing that maybe I can't remember exactly what he said. Lisa like but that one thing that you would the other a little cities or something like that so try to create a rift is what he I don't think I mean you and I have a pretty good relationship that we haven't pulled pulled punches if something bothers us like it's not really bothering but if there's something like we always been willing to share that with each other so all right so what I like best about hip hip. I really like kipps perspective. I like KIPP that. You're empathetic your very thoughtful. In a way that I am not I tend to be more reactionary versus you. Who is more of a thinker and let's analyze this? Let's figure it out before we jump into conclusion and rush to something. Something that isn't isn't isn't right. Based on the information we have that I really admire and appreciate you about about because again I think it complements. That's what I bring to the table. And there's value in that and it's opened up my perspective and my desire to be more empathetic and understanding of what people are experiencing your instinct without jumping to conclusion rushing to judgment. That's what I would say again. I don't know how to phrase this one thing that just like now again. I don't know how to phrase bugs me or or something I again. I don't know how As I would say at the same time you know our strengths become our weaknesses. So sometimes you want analyze and pore over the data and the information and let's get the numbers and I'm like dude. We don't need the numbers we just need to go. Yes just go go go go go. So it's like that might seem like a cop out but again our strengths. Our weaknesses. So I appreciate your perception. I appreciate. Get Your perspective your thoughtfulness. You really want to know what's going on before you make decisions but at the same time dude. I don't want to know what's going on. I just WANNA go because I tend to be a little bit more. Maybe e rely a little. Bit more intuitively as opposed to thoughtfully. So yeah that's that's that's where I'm at now that's great actually and it's funny because in that same breath those are those are your pro and con as well like the the complete opposite right. I love the fact that you're a man of action like your default behavior is will act figure it out we'll learn through that process of action and and we're not gonNA over to analyze it or whatever and the same breath I subtype sued. We need to think about this a little bit more right because we may like go down a path and go. Oh Oh ship maybe we should. We're talking about swearing hustle. Oh shoot you know maybe we should have thought about that. I because now we implemented something that maybe was ideal. We should attested tested verse. Or you know what I mean trite things out more and so it's a complete cop cop out as well because it's the complete opposite of of you but I think that's that's one of you're traits that I admire in the same breath though you know what I what through this podcast. What I've learned and I it's it's funny because I don't think I admired you for this without the experience of being involved on this podcast and it is your compassion and your drive and clarity in regards to how you see things And and I and I don't think I realized how valuable that is and Detrimental possibly you used the analogy in the past of light yourself on fire people watch and I have my own interpretation. Take what that means when you say that and part of it comes down to been open to people criticising you because the reality of it is once you once you have a strong opinion. It's kind of dangerous. Sure Dennis and it's dangerous on this platform right. I had a friend from from high school. She sent me a message on this podcast and I really thought about. I thought WHOA issue going to agree with me. ISSUE NOT GONNA agree with me and how often we go throughout our lives without a platform. Like this where you keep your opinions to yourself and and people may love you because you keep your opinion to yourself and your opinions not known and it doesn't. That's why they would love you but they don't love you they don't hate you. Yeah but once you have a platform and you're running around with at this is my opinion Bubba Bubba. This how it should be all set any gives everyone the opportunity to go. I disagree and because of this platform it really puts. It's you and me through through helping kind of on this pedestal but on the stage for one to sit back and go I agree I disagree and not only that I don't like you because I disagree. I disagree with that. I don't think we like we had. Someone made a comment the other day on Youtube. He said all been listening to you guys for Lyle Lovett. Not Listening anymore because I disagreed with like a point and I'm like Whoa. Oh that's the world. We live in several. Oh I disagree with one thing about Ryan and then I go. Screw that list now like you're not educated enough. I I like his thought process. I don't disagree. I don't agree with him here but but I still like what I hear on muscle going to grow from it. We can't do that. Yeah it's weird. It's really really weird. I had a guy emailed me the other day in fact and he said man. I really love your podcast. Loved you guys stand for and what you do but you have this one particular guest on and I don't like this guy. I had an an experience with him and etc etc.. And so it's going to take off for me to listen to your podcast again and I don't know if he was expecting an apology or a police come back like let me beg you to come listen to my podcast but I simply said hey look man like we do our best to that guys. I know the people. Do we have honor at times controversial. You're not going to dig everybody but if you honestly can't listen to the podcast because you happen to disagree a you're not like one guest. I don't know what to tell you man like I'm not here to beg for your attention or to listen to the shows like do do but I I mean this is a little ridiculous. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. But you know why that is is because we have this completely unparalleled hello level of access to information on demand so I actually made this analogy with with my guess yesterday Scott Adams and the analogy used as do you remember like when you and I were growing up we had tapes right. That's how we listen to music tapes and so we'd have to put. Yes it mix tapes. It's right man so we'd have to put the tape in and then we'd have to listen to everything because it was kind of a pain in the butt. have to fast forward to the one song. If you really take advantage you would have the tape player that would know when there's a blank spot in a guy in. Yeah so we had these..

"This. With Kelsey and Shane McNally. Together, we do. Well, he used to. We both kind of don't see each other as much, but yeah, I mean, the funny thing people, you know, you think of like, Shane McNally or Josh Osborne. These guys like, oh these big hit songwriters. But when we started out, you know, the ban we have the band are, you know, as part of our story, but really the songwriting arc, you know. Matthew, and I and Shane and Josh and Matt Jenkins brandy Clark. We didn't have anything going on back then. So I mean, we used to write with each other all the time and just had this kind of sound with each other. So I mean, we've written hundreds of songs probably together. Yeah. It's funny to see whenever they mix you guys. Brothers Osborne up. Oh, yeah. First of all, you don't even look the same. There's really nothing close in brothers Osborne. I guess there are two words. I don't know. What do you say? I've tried to figure it out to to. What do you think? It is. I don't know because our two guys in that band. I guess I would understand if it were like an F GL thing where it's another duo or a Dannon Shane or mixing up to do. Oh, yeah. I mean, they're taller. They sound different. There's really not. I love it though, it now it's funny. But if you guys have both kind of made a name for yourself in different ways, you're both successes. It's it is really funny thing because it's happened many times. But I don't know why they keep making you guys up. I really don't know likes. Now. Like, sometimes I'm like do those people really mix us up or they descend on the joke now. But yeah, that's funny. Does the old go have you played at school? They'll school Old Dominion. Yeah. We played there. I think last summer was at a thing or no. Do they care? I don't I can't remember I don't feel like they hyped it up too much as Old Dominion at Oldham. I think there was a little bit element of that. But I don't know. Was it weird to have the name? Was there any legal thing? You can't call yourself Old Dominion. Yeah. Actually, we almost weren't called old the menu of that story. Well, so early on, you know, it's so hard to pick a band name. You know, it's like the worst thing you can possibly have to do because. You're always self-conscious, you know, everybody's gonna rip onion shootdown anything. Stupid everything that definitely. So we had to sit there and go. Okay. Well, we're not going to be named Matt Ramsey or whatever let's figure out a banning. We're ben. And so it we tried so hard and we finally settled on Old Dominion Matt said that one days like the only thing I could think of that's related to Virginia that has been taken Old Dominion. We're like what's wrong with that? So we were Old Dominion for like, maybe two years and started to get some steam, you know, we had some things going. We had already put out a couple of songs and tunes. And then that we've talking to our attorney, and he's like man, I'm just really concerned about the legalities of this. You know, you got the peanut company, and you got the trucking company, and you got the university, and and the beer, and so man, we we actually got to the point where we were sitting at a bar Nashville trying to come up with a new name in pretty much having a band fight. And then I Finally I dunno. I can be stubborn sometimes. But I was like, you know, at this is stupid. I'm like we can be called the. Dominion, and will know our Turney says we could get sued. And I said that doesn't make any sense to me. I'm like. There is there is a university. There is a peanut company. They're they're not suing each other. There are already more multiple dominions. And so I'm like, I'm not doing this. I'm gonna call the attorney and our Turney was like, man. I don't know. He said, I really you're probably right. Except the university is the one I'm afraid of. Because they have a marching band. They have merchandise that they sell. So I was like, okay. Well, I'm gonna get home assembly. So I sat there all day and track down somebody at the university and just asked people until I got to the right person. And I said, hey, we're this ban. We've been operating under this name. We already have songs out. You know is this an issue, and they said no as long as you don't use our logo. We're not worried about it. You're good. And so I took it back to the guys, and I'm like as satisfy everybody, and they're like, okay. I guess we're still Old Dominion you got into writing. Yeah. That's that's the play get it in writing. So it was all out of like futility of being able to come up with a new name your any of the names you guys talked about. I mean, I do know they were awful. But man, I can't remember I do remember playing the wild horse one time when we were in limbo. And we were like, let's just let's just tell her. We're Friday girl. The girl would announce us when we play the wild horse as and she you know, she'd go what are you guys called? Sometimes we just be Matt Ramsey or whatever and one time she was like, how do you want me to announce you Matt was like Friday eagle? Ladies and gentlemen, fried eagle. Pretty funny. Video of you guys playing was it the wild horse and there's like one couple dancing. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That was I couldn't believe Matt still had that on his computer. It was just an I mean that in the most sincere way it was here. You are. You've got all these hits his band. You got all these hits his writers. And you're playing to no one, right? And there's an old couple that are looks like two stepping to that summer. Join from memory. Yeah. That's that's summer. And it was a, hey, look, even we'd like struggled our brains out, and nobody would come to our show and look at us now. And it wasn't look at us. Now like look at us now. But it was like freaking look at us. Now like, we can do this. You guys can do this. Yeah. I was inspired by the video. I thought that was pretty cool post. It was really cool. I mean that like you said that was that was before any of the hits or anything right eagle days fried eagled as web might have been the night. We've announced ourselves fried ego. I was watching speaking bad names. I was watching that motley Crue it's a bio pic on Netflix. Have you seen reviews for it? I've heard about it. But I haven't seen. It's kind of a disaster. But you almost have to watch it like, I'm such a music nerd like give me any sort of biography or a bio pic, I'll watch I'll just consume us it, and I'm like, I'm gonna watch this thing, and there's a whole scene where they're going over their name crew. And I guess one of their names before it was motley Crue was X like X mass like Xmas with pentagram. Oh my God. But that was really one of their names. And I was thinking when I was watching that I was like ninety nine point nine hundred abandoned are so stupid. We disagree them because they get hit. And they're said someone right over the over time. I remember Florida Georgia line when I'm like that's the dumbest name ever. And now, it's just their name. It's just part of. It's just words that make sense to us. Do remember tire fire that was one of them throughout tire fire? This is called tire. Fire fire. Yeah. And you sit there and go. This is a terrible terrible. Name. Dirty gross grimy like some backyard. You are grimy. Yeah. Exactly, dirty and grimy. So talk to me about this whole new record that you guys have do you guys play on the record? We do which is cool because that doesn't happen. A lot in town. It doesn't it's very rare. And a think it's part of what makes us, you know, people a lot of times. We'll tell us. Oh, you guys sound like you sound like Old Dominion, I think partly because we play, you know, we it's five and then this time like Dave Cohen has played keys and come in and done some different things. So he's he's a big part of it too. But Oma aside from Dave every note, and every choice, everything is, you know, uh playing and Shane producing and directing. So I think for we always say for better or worse. You know, it makes it sound like us because you know, we have limitations were not all studio level people. But you know, like. I think that gives us a fingerprint. Yeah. I think it's cool and for those that are familiar a lot. I'll even say most records even with bans, they'll bring in specifically trained session players that their life is actually playing these parts are the keys or but I was like when when bands will use their own peoples much possible. Yeah, I do too. Because you know, if you use all the same guys that everyone is using sometimes those tricks start the sound all the same you ever. See the beach boys stuff what they used to do. I've heard some of the behind the scenes to Brian Wilson. He would stay back and they'll get the wrecking crew record play all the songs, and they would go out and tour and Brian Wilson stays back in the studio, and you know, mad genius is making everything and sometimes between play on the records. They come in and saying, but the records are pretty much done. They they make all the money touring. Brian Wilson's in with all the wrecking crew record documentary net flicks. I have not seen that so good. There's a there's another one have you ever seen standing standing in the shadows of Motown? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've watched I think it's a similar thing. Right. Have. Yes. Have you have you seen? But I haven't seen. Hardly anything gives your dad before kid. I just never watch anything like, well, I didn't have a girlfriend. So I'm watching everything. Watch next. There's one that's about guitar players in band famous guitar players that maybe recognize, but and then it just goes through their stories, and it's pretty cool. There's not a background singer one where it's like it's like two feet from stardom or something which is fantastic about that one. It's so good because it's like they're so close, and it's all these humongous acts their backgrounds singing for Michael Jackson and people like that like Sheryl Crowe one of the most famous stories was a legit, Michael Jackson background singer. Yeah. Which is crazy. So anyway. Do you practice still my instrument? Yeah. I mean, I I every day pretty much practice. Well, not every day. But when we're on the road. I mean, we're playing the show. You know, we're doing soundcheck. I mean, we with those songs, I guess you're playing songs you've played over and over. But I guess it keeps your skills up to some level. But you know, I'm also not like a lead guitar player. I'm going to sit there and practice my scales. I think for me, I'm more of a song Burson. I think ultimately the the biggest thing I contribute to the band is the songwriting aspect. So I'm always practicing that you know, I think every day which favorite song. You've you've written that we would know that has made the light of day. Man. It's so hard. Well, I don't know if this is the light of day necessarily wasn't a single, but there's a song on keep their venom. A wrote called the comeback to me that are at Shane. And brandy Clark one of my favorite songs. I've ever liked to hear a little bit of this on here. It's your favorite, you know, what my favorite. This jam here. Yeah. Just the lyric as I think one of the best lyrics record fuse.

"Anaheim. They're actually playing in Anaheim opening week is what Thursday opening day. Thursday's opening day. How many games are on? There's a lot of games. I checked earlier. There's a lot of games on Thursday. Really? It's pretty good. A lot of day games on the east coast to it'd probably about thirty five forty degrees for some of them. So now bad opening up on March, twenty eighth smart ideas. Feeding that's a bad decision. Right. I think it's a really bad decision. It's a good concept. They're trying to give the teams more days off during the season. But honestly, it's poor execution starting on March twenty eighth at just is poor execution. We have a late night tweet from one of your favorites. What do we of course, the notorious Conor McGregor? Zimbabwe's someone else wins like Anthony Showtime bettas he has to stick his nose that and say, hey, you're just like me now. Congratulations. I don't think this has anything to do. I don't know who this is directed at or four. But hey, guys quick announcement. I've decided to retire from the sport formerly known as mixed martial arts today. I wish all my old colleagues. Well, going forward and competition. I now join my former partners on this venture already in retirement, proper pinochle. Lot is on me, fellas. So does that mean whiskey in your pinochle? Know, apparently, which is sounds terrible. I don't believe any of the day. You know, don't. So he's retiring, and he's done this moldable times. Sure. I mean, it's I don't know who he's trying to take a shot. I wish my old colleagues. Well, going forward and competition I will now. Join my former partners on this venture already in retirement. So he's basically saying somebody has already been retired from doing is what he's saying. I don't know who he's taking a shot at I'm not too up on the game. What do you think my via? What is this? Some kind of crossword puzzle. I got to figure out how to me sounds like he's just saying I'm going to join all these other guys have retired and just doing their thing now. But I don't believe it. I mean, why is he doing this whole tour through the US right now with proper twelve if he retires that publicity goes away. So there's no way he's retiring right now in his prime. I can't wait to see him fighting and lose. Jimmy Fallon if he's going to just go out and Jimmy Fallon. I tweeted earlier it was on there tonight. Bottle of proper twelve whiskey on it. Drinking karaoke together for some segment or whatever really is very everybody who it'd be responding to this and the the I guess the community is pretty much saying, sure, sure, sure, whatever the same responses mafele, whatever J in DC or on CBS sports radio. Thanks for taking my call big guy. Hey. Course, mafia, I'm trying to figure out some rail. Maybe you can help me. How to do? Dr that game. I mean when they about three point win don't they survive and win don't they win the same old story like? Suggest you know, like my whole life. My dad went to do great. So my whole life. All I've ever heard about is is Duke. I've been hearing about dude so much. I I heard about dude so much. I went to Indiana. Okay. So like, I just can't stand him to say, you know. And I don't care if anybody thinks they're either my dad went there. He loves Duke. I don't I know it is what it is. I'm not a fan of them. I think it's over exposure to that makes me sick. You know what I mean? It's like to me every single college basketball season is about Duke, right? And no one else is that about right? I mean, North Carolina barely gets a scratching snap. You know? What I mean? They they get nothing who else gets attention Kentucky. Obviously do Kentucky Kansas. I I have to put North Carolina there. And North Carolina. Michigan state in Michigan. Right. And that's it. There's yeah. There's for the most part that's probably just about cover LSU is because they had the season. They had the only reason they're nowhere near same. Ever mentioned Houston. Now. None of the Minoan doesn't matter. What you do you take? It went thirty game. They don't mention them either. They know, but they always Matt Jenkins at the five or six that they that that are constantly mentioned. So I get sick and tired of it. It's just I'm so sick and tired of just the constant every games on national television. They're all that matter. I was watching sports center today. When I got the lady said they was Hannah storm. Don't worry. We got tons of Duke highlights coming up, and that's after they just showed eight minutes of them. So then showed like, eight minutes of Duke. And then they said we got more coming of do get a little bit. Just give us another twenty minutes, and a double commercial teasers will come back and give you more Duke. I just can't take it. It just never ends. Just it's like Duke TV's on TV I get sick and tired of it. And then to see a team play him like that. And you know, have him by the throat and to see that lay-up mass. And then that tip follow that seemed like it rolled around on a for five minutes and fall out. It just made me wanna vomit. I mean, it really did like I, and you know, it's even worse as my son is a Duke fan. So my father has brainwashed him. So now, he's a Dookie and he wants to go to do which I don't even know where I'll come up with the money for that. Because that's a fleecing isn't it to go to Duke, isn't that about sixty grand a year. I mean, I'm going to go broke just thinking about it. I mean, just thinking about it makes me I need therapy, Anita shrank, if my son goes there, and then I got to listen to the half of the rest of my imagine just coming now. I can't take it. In fact, I swear to God and praying on everything I have that North Carolina meets him in the final and beats them. I mean, I literally am on. I'm on my hands and knees praying at night that that it's North Carolina did. Please. I know. It sounds crazy isn't North Carolina. Playing Auburn that's a team. That's very dangerous right now that might be able to beat them. Texas tech. I think has a shot at them because you know, I thought they had a shot against them when they played them at the garden right had about a throat and slip through their fingers. I feel horrible for my dad 'cause he's got like, you know, little action going with the dementia thing going, and so I didn't think he knows they're in it. Like, he's the watches turn wherever you're live for any. Call me all day and harass me with Duke phone calls and just harassment Mavi remembers he'd call me and just leave him messages one after the next about Duke. Now, he doesn't even know they're in it. He doesn't even know it sucks for me to see him that he doesn't remember any of it or know any of it. It's crazy. I would that diseases doing the people Alzheimer's, and dementia is the worst absolute worst. It really is. I don't know. What's worse that cancer addiction? I really I can't keep up with all of it. Here we go. Let's get an update. And now that I've depressed all of you. Here's Jay Berman. Sports flash dotty, we'll begin to the NFL the two thousand nineteen season will officially open on Thursday September fifth with the Packers and bears in Chicago. A slight change from years past when the defending Super Bowl champs would host that game. Instead the champs. The patriots will be part of the Sunday night match up in week number one one other note, the jets have resigned linebacker, Brandon Copeland from the college game to Georgia BULLDOGS. Football players facing misdemeanor. Disorderly conduct charges after they were arrested following an incident at a downtown Athens, Georgia bar early Sunday morning. We are senior receiver Tyler Simmons and freshman.

"Yeah. The ball home in. Music in the NFL you get a lot of one hit wonders, Steelers going to be good for a long time. Patriots gonna be good for a long time. I have a feeling Philadelphia's going to be good for long time. The Seahawks guy little vanilla ice Seahawks. Got a little bit l. ice San Francisco with Harbaugh halo ball Hau-man like Saxon Ville last ten years. One one playoff appearance. I like Jalen Ramsey great player, but gronk is good. No question. He's better better with Tom than he would be with Ryan tannehill. But when you look at the numbers, he is worth a field goal. He is worth a field goal. Just remember this. Outside of quarterback Vegas doesn't think most NFL players, even the great ones are worth more than a point. He's worth three times. Joy Taylor with the news. On the news. This is the heard line news. I got a little bit of news before we get to the heard line news and that is Erin. Donald. The Rams near Donald have finalized a record six year. One hundred and thirty five million dollar including an eighty, seven million dollar guaranteed God for her sources according to Adam schefters the richest defense at the NFL history. Donald is now tied to LA for the next seven years. And of course we'll be ready. Monday night the raiders and maybe probably not. Now, Khalil Mack, does it appear? The Rams are the only team in the league that is not working with a salary cap. They've got something going on. Sure. So in shut 'em Schefter also tweeted that his salary cap number for the two thousand eighteen season rises from six point eight, nine, two million to eight point eight, nine million. So they so they still have room in their salary cap. What the Rams are clearly able to do and teams that are lower like the raiders can't do is in order to give eighty seven million guaranteed. You have to show in your Bank. You have eighty seven million dollars, the raiders don't. And so STAN Kroenke is either the richest owner in the NFL or second richest to Paul Allen. They are giving out guaranteed money like they're the Yankees in sport with no salary cap. And I, I'm here to tell you ninety percent of the teams in this league. They're not right in those guaranteed bonus checks. They're not giving you those guaranteed money to everyone. That's for sure, but on, he got his contract. So earlier this week we talked about this Matt Jenkins said he. Wanted the Super Bowl champion, sign hanging eagles locker room gone and that thinker Jenkins head coach, Doug Peterson's listens to listen to his players and decide have the banner moves elsewhere and lane. Johnson seems time with also listen. Aren't looking at every day. One one spray strip for the city, but are as new year on. Thanks, good to. Fresh with our. I actually this whole mentality starting to make me kind of believe in the eagles. Again, I'm going to go as far as I is is Super Bowl, but. The fact that they are aware that that those kind of subconscious messages that were already on top, you know, we won the Super Bowl, and this is kind of distracting to have this in the locker room. Is it the time? I think they're too well-coached too well, quarterback and too good on the lines. Not to be very viable. Doesn't mean they're gonna again. You can have injuries. Listen, you, can you can have you get beaten, a hail Mary. I mean, but their personnel there coaching in their quarterback and their general manager, how he rose them. They're just too good at the top and have a good own. So I do see this. I'm not saying they're going to do a New England run. Right? But the first thing I always look at who's your owner, who's your GM who's your coach and who's your quarterback in if you can give me be plus to a minus and all those. That's the Steelers. That's when you'll ask for ten to fifteen years. They're built to be sustainable. So Josh Rosen has made no secret of his grudge about being drafted as the fourth quarterback in round one and with one approaching here to tell everyone that nothing has. Changed, but it's always in the back of my head these teams that kinda screwed it up. I definitely won't let them move it down when when all said and done frustrated and still am, but I don't really need much extra motivation..
