"Ingram and today's tip comes from my friend Matt Heinz Matt is the President of Heinz Marketing and has been a true thought leader in the sales and marketing space for over a decade now he is basically a good idea machine and here's the one he's got for us today. Hi this is Matt Hines hindes founder and President of Heinz Marketing in this is my sales tip for today. You know there's a lot of things I could cover. There's a lot of things that we do with our clients as well as things we do internally from a sales his perspective but the one thing that I think is accessible and important for everybody is to have a set of daily habits to have a disciplined approach to things you're doing on a daily basis sometimes times. It's a bunch of little things that add up to helping yourself create more predictable pipeline. I have what I call it my daily do list. It's on my task list every day. Once I take it off off of the tassels for the data automatically shows up on the next business day and it's based on a checklist of things that I need to do every day to feed my network to end in defeat my pipeline. I have have a version of this is actually laminated that I take with me when I travel but you know even if you just have it in your inbox or just as a piece of paper I think reminding yourself of those little things those tactics tactics those habits that help drive behavior and help drive results is really important so for example on mine. You know it's a reminder look at my calendar from yesterday the meetings the meetings as I had to make sure I've done follow up to make sure I've connected with people on Lincoln to make sure I've sent any thank you notes or whatever else they need to do. There's a reminder to look at a few different filtered reports sports for me in salesforce in our market automation platform to look at you know the accounts that we're tracking to look for buying signals to look for any changes to look for you know behavior with our content that I can a follow up with we also have a series of filters in linked in that can tell us about particular trigger events. If someone in my first connections has changed jobs that could be a trigger event that could lead to some opportunity so looking at that on a daily basis in knowing what my follow up processes is important. That's all documented in my daily dualist. If you're listening to this you'd like like a copy of a sample of what my daily listen. I'm happy to share it with you. Then we cannot make that available somehow I'm sure the Scott figure out how to do that and we could put a link That he put it up on slide share or whatnot. I guess the moral of the story on that for me is that there's always room for strategic improvement thinking about like. Who are we targeting geting. How are we going after them. But you know the top one percent of sales people will consistently tell you that their success is tied to consistence repeatable behavior. It's it's doing the little things is doing them. Every day. It's putting in the time and effort to do those things on regular repeatable predictable basis so that's what I got this about Hines hines marketing. Thanks so much for listening thing now. "About about what we do um but as i mentioned as a a wireless audio specialty in them choose it's new and exciting and i would ask you too much about that if it's not released yet but um um i guess they were very interested in all these kinds of things one of the things that we've been talking about a lot this week is of course apple is finally preparing to take preorder and begin to ship their home pod product that they've been talking about since the middle of last summer and you know we've been trying to figure out what they're accomplishing their and a little bit about how they're doing it so can you speak to the science behind what we think home pot is doing yeah i i certainly can if you if you go to be the apple website actually ah reveal a little bit more that i think some of the art at a manufacturer to do a crash because they're doing a little bit more than the other spot beacon manufacturers are so they have this wonderful picked on their website of the the interior speaker because of across from the outside it's a very simple elegant swaying design but if you think about the environments in which a user typically would have music play all might make a focal in the whole uh you might have a speaker set up i mean i have my tv today uh but as you move about the home depending on where you are closer a further away from the speaker the sound will certainly change in your home environment all apple had a bunch of technology in that is supposed to counteract that no matter where you are in the room lauren several rooms uh a few music that she sounds the same absolutely everywhere and and then they also have this uh really really smart microsoft of ray i think they have six microphones all the way around the inside of the whole pot so if you think about s sort of facetime or other kinds of video chat that you you may be doing this a timely or a a single there you could new now do.

"Should apple have home pods in every room should apple have a home pod many that works in multiple rooms for this kind of in her and her house messaging i have wondered about that and i think that maybe the solution is to allow some level of syria 'integration over bluetooth with thirdparty speakers that works a little more naturally than it does now um or maybe even because series aldam server side you can have a a handshake an apple servers may be let thirdparty manufacturer self speakers that can access siri and maybe that's how you addressed this fifty dollar amazon echo problem that they're not going to address with a three her fifty dollar home pa the future if they want to compete with those devices of course maybe they don't wanna be with me they don't care right but is certainly there there watching men taking a look at what those things can do and what the what they ought to consider doing you know for example the both the alexa and the google the student are able to recognize different voices and separate out you know if i add a reminder and my kid adds a reminder whose calendar does that reminder go to right and they're able to work that out and they're also able to respect fully manager which ones they announced with right which ones that so so my reminders and my my twos don't get and read aloud someone else for example so there's there's stuff at worth there for managing multiple users that apple is traditionally not that great up right in terms of malkey amac has multiple accounts but your iphone as your personal life on your ipad as your personal ipad and it works for that one person but home pod devices a device that lives in the home among multiple people and it looks like at launch from the refinery twenty nine people their experience with it that only the person who sets a poem pod on there i cloud account will be able to send tax up reminders and get counterfoil notifications via voice gugel home an amazon echo recognize different voices.

"At least from the iowa side from the android side that's a little more fluid but not by much the thing that i'm looking for is is really what's the easiest in terms of experience for the end user to to manage these things you know di di i don't enjoy finding eightdigit barco eightdigit codes on stickers inside products um having to install an application first in order to make a device work and then adding to add it to home kit after that seems like an extra kind of step that amazon has so far addressed in you'll has not yet gotten their on yes that could be something that could easily be added with software update to whom pod um i i think that that smart home accessories are still in the kind of like a very early stages were doesn't really matter i i agree that that smart on devices are very early that all of these things are still very young but it's it's an early days but it's also a races on kind of thing because you know amazon is out in the lead and gugel was at see us trying to show everyone that they were ready to and that they were going to overtake amazon and apples biggest move which was doing software than occasion so that the heart worship was no longer required has yet to pay the dividends necessary and at sea as a lot of the vendors that i spoke with were not even aware that change had been made i'm not surprised that that that they could go ahead and add honky compatibility to their product without having to retool their whole zein was something that they weren't aware of and so i i was almost spending half the show being the apple evangelist going around saying you know if you check out developer dot apple dot com you can take this thing you've made and update your firm firmware and it will become home could compatible no are you kidding no really you can that's impossible that's that's they want the chip no they don't want the chip anymore than six months old and here's an interesting question for him it it if it hasn't penetrated than apple isn't to here's interesting are short area with with home pod technically apple is releasing.

"The the usefulness for controlling things in the home like your phillips who like alls which will pop will do out of the box right and but but that third use is the kind of thing that's taken a while to ramp up across all foreigners uh and and apple is the distant third on the smart home adoption terms of home kit verses things that are alexa compatible one of the things that i've been looking at this past week as i've been working on an article that there were going publish on how these things stack up is also the ease of setting up these kinds of of light switches and light bulbs and stuff like that you know in terms of of enabling and alexa scale it's really simple and you can do it all by voice all without having interact with the app you can say alexa enable the phillips who skill and it does and then you say alexa discover devices and it finds her phillips who bulbs and your often run a cool it really is with home kit we we have to scan barcodes or we halfdo scanned the eightdigit number code on a product which is invariably always hidden when it's plugged ins you can actually do that nicely of look for sticking the box kind of thing and apples working on resolving this using nfc pairing rome kit and we saw heads at ces there was one device that promised it was going to ship with nfc pairing from can uh but they weren't able to demonstrate at the time at the booth because well it see us so the these things are all getting better in in terms of google setting up a skull like this were enabling a device like this it's kind of a deep dive through the google system dap which is a little bit weird because there's the google assistant app but there's also gugel home and koogle homeless for managing your chrome casts and also the the smart speakers but the google assistant is where you manage these sorts of skills that you want to add to it so it's it's like kubo hasn't quite got it all put together yet in terms of trying to figure out which side of these two things you work across two separate apps.

"The couple years leading up to the airplane to announcement there were a lot more options on the market than there had been previously which showed that it wasn't quite a dead technology if it never really caught on in the way than anybody hoped that it would it especially if you're an apple fan but i mean for years the only way you could get it was an airport express well i was in costco over the weekend and there were two yamaha products in the costco shelves they have receiver and they had a sound bar with supplement and both of them claimed airplay compatibility that's what i'm saying and so if you're here's my hypothesis if airplay too requires no new hardware and is a software update essentially wealth as opposed to be for some manufacturers according to apple but will your manufacturer supported what if it's a software update andrew manufacturer is still maintaining their apple dev license which they must be if they're selling airplay because they have to play pay emma five th these on what they sell then it makes sense for them to up eight it for new products as opposed to existing products on the market well that's what i'm saying like you may already have invest like me i have a receiver um i have a speakers from a company called knocks noc 's that i'm pretty sure when a business but they ever plan and that i have two airport expresses and i don't even know that apples can update their poor express fairplay to probably not in say unlikely because they want to sell me a home pop for 3 in fifty dollars and i'm going to buy one but and because they disbanded the unit that would even do that i write the the last thing that airport got touched on was perhaps a security update damp and that's the one guy keeping the lights on.

"Uh although some of them do have ox jack so that you can take them to the good speakers we know that that the go home max is an attempt at being the good speaker although it doesn't quite reach what home pod does according to the one prisoners at one hour of experience with it and across fifty dollars bar yes you know it's it's a very real question whether or not this takes out sono sonos has been an interesting one from the geico rights sonal says a a smaller audience but a very dedicated customer base and so for people who want these kinds of assistance and want a breadth of access to different music support sources using a something like a sonos or the the global home or the um or the ems on alexa devices the echo devices that allow you to choose from a selection of music sources may give more flexibility than than the apple him pod yeah i agree that um certainly the home pot if you want history music from another source you can use their play but that is not as convenient as using siri to play music um you know say which will about apple's ecosystem play siri kit should tactically allow for third parties integrate if they wanted to at least on the phone and and then when they open up for whom pot war launched but pro i presume we that from shali is all coming to let third party developers create their own tools for for home pod and what have you so i i see that being resolved in future software updates pay pending.

"Vice with limited screen for reason this is not this is not something they are expecting to have a new model of a year later and apples been kind of conscious that lately to think about you know the the the for the first apple watch was around for a year and a half or they updated air pods are going on over a year now and series won the continuance of the first apple watch with some refresh right that still going on right so um apple i think it has been conscious of the fact that in the past people said don't buy the first generation and i don't think you can say that it anymore i think that um the software the harbours become capable enough now that the software proves in so may be one eight for this week the secondgeneration software but the hardware is not the problem you know the eu said some interesting things some roll back a little bit too few sentences ago where you were talking about size of market in terms of sales and things like that you're talking about who who is endangers in the market and i agree with you that it it definitely has an impact on bowers and wilkins i was thinking about boe's sure yeah you know bos has a a huge name bos has a huge history a year a decades long history uh going back gosh three or four decades or more to in and and they're sales volume is historically really high you know what whether or not people like they're sound quality an audio files will tell you that they stand for a no highs no lows must be bows but they have a name and does this displaced bos is a good question i think that that as much as you said that apple is not positioning this has competitor to the amazon or the google products that it definitely is going to be viewed that way because these are the voice assistant speakers sure you know we know that the amazon echo products definitely don't have the same sound quality.

"Competitors like sonos serb hours in wilkins or or companies like that that make three four five hundred dollars speakers home you know home audio systems this thing is going to wiped the floor with those but how big is that market are are are those companies selling hundreds of thousands are they selling millions i don't know but i mean if apple comes in and takes forty to fifty percent of that market eat on the first year which i would say is extremely likely that is going to do significant damage to those brands in terms of their their home speakers the technology and a home pod from everything that i've read and heard about it have not experienced one person yet but hopefully soon the technology as well beyond anything in that price range in terms of what apple is doing and what they're offering and the capabilities now the siri functionality the home kit all that it's a little underwhelming yeah if you compare it to what elect says capable of a few compared to a google assists and is capable of it's just not there yet but it does have a powerful a chip in it that kind of paves the way forward to do more exciting things in the future and i fully expect that apple will continue to updated i said before i don't think that this product will be touched for two maybe even three years i think of the hardware is going to stay the same i think that this is very much going to be the product without any upgrades for a little while maybe new models maybe maybe alternative options but definitely this model but you're seeing right now i think is going to be the one for awhile if so if you're an early adopter i think you you don't have to feel like oregon wait for the second gend with this type of thing get this is the second jen you're going to have saumur updates that will keep this fresh for oil they put some powerful hardware in it.

"What this thing can do and why you should buy it and then preorder is open up right and the only demonstration that we've had dates back to last summer and that demonstration didn't really show us a whole lot and the handson period that comes after those kinds of demonstrations was similarly not that helpful because it showed sound quality it showed some music playing but you couldn't interact with syria at that time on thing yeah and and so would you agree with me that this is an unusual kind of launch for apple is on for a number of reasons it's an unusual proctor apple um i think that it has been pigeonholed by certain segments of the press in the population as a fifty are echo dot competitor which uh i don't think anybody really nosing where the park thinks that it actually is positioned is that certainly apple and its marketing his focus on this as a music player first and foremost i mean it's even in the name home pod just like an ipod ms player you know or air pod for that matter yes exactly so this is this is being positioned as it music device now how you view that is going to determine how much of a success you think it is because is this going to sell more than the fifty dollar amazon echo dot now is going to sell more than the 100dollar echo maybe that that might be a fair comparison uh but it's going to clean up.
