"A sleepy Sunday afternoon. Parts of a plane began breeding down on this Los Angeles suburb saw fireballs. Guy. This devastation. One part of this twin engine Cessna blasting into this home like a missile plume seen for miles went up so fast. There was. Nothing. You could do the inferno killing four people in that house. Not yet been identified the pilot of the plane. It's only occupant also killed within seconds. Dozens of residents wandering amidst. The wreckage video you can Hugh those small explosions popping off folks yelling get back. And I just see debris flying everywhere and part of the plane, which eventually was the motor flew down into the garage like a torpedo and just hit the garage blew up propellers scattered on lawns. Debris strewn across the neighborhood and windows shattered, the debris field is about four blocks long. We're in the process of documenting the debris and the wreckage. The main cabin of the airplane with one of the engines came to rest at the bottom of a ravine in the backyard of somebody's house two additional people take into burn centers and a firefighter injured and typically small planes don't have black boxes or data recorders. "The seemingly impossible to happen. Twelve boys and their soccer coach trapped deep inside a cave in Thailand tonight inside the untold story of the mistakes the failed plans and the controversial decisions behind their rescue. Here's my Nightline co anchor, Dan Harris, once I started doing the reporting it quickly materialize that these kids were completely sedated. They were out Danamon. These boys were so sedated. You could easily have operated on them. And they would have felt nothing. They were essentially vegetables being hauled through that tunnel. And the decision was if we don't do this. They will panic and almost certainly not only them, but they would take the diverse down with and when people panic when they dive they grab at divers, the rescuers writ facemasks tear the regulators out of their mouth. They'll do anything to try to survive. Even though what they're actually doing is killing themselves, and the diver it's the heart-stopping untold story of the rescue that captivated the world in the urgent rescue operation in Thailand. Twelve young soccer players and their coach found alive in a flooded cave in Thailand one and two weeks in a cave without any real food. Very little water thority say that high risk operation is now underway tonight. All twelve young soccer players and their coach are free. That is the great news outside that cave in. Thailand picture of patience, and perseverance inside twelve boys and their soccer coach. You're trapped miles deep by floodwaters struggling to survive as they waited to be rescued. The voice used to practice on this field. My colleague ABC's Matt gut right there for at all now revealing startling new details about the massive international rescue effort in his new book, the boys in the cave. The mistakes that nearly doomed the mission the failed plans close calls and a controversial decision that rendered the boys unconscious the decision to sedate was that controversial. It's so controversial. And one of the only places that you'll see it is in the book that the Thai government has basically clamped down on it censored information. And in fact, it was a very awkward moment in Thailand when I met the parents, and I started talking about the sedation, and they said what? What do you mean? Sedation. I was the first person to tell them nearly six weeks after the rescue that their children had been sedated. They had no idea shedding new light on the urgency facing Taya fficials and a stunning admission soon after reporting started, I understood that the divers themselves expected most of the boys to die on the way out. And they told the government is basically said to the government they will fix eight in this tiny chamber that they're in. They might die of disease two of them have pneumonia. This is going to get really ugly, really fast. We have to do something. Now, I never had to think for second about whether I would go, I think, it's human nature tonight. If you've got to go to busy, and of course, you will. We always knew we could get them out where we could get a live on in the book matter covers many of the harsh realities. Behind difficult decisions. The divers were forced to make. They really thought going in there that seventy five to eighty percent of the boys would die on that first day. This had never been done before the reusing completely unorthodox methods that never been tried never been tested revealing that two of the boys nearly didn't make it one of the boys nearly went hypothermic because his diver got lost in the cave and couldn't find his way out. And so after a while he basically just stopped in one of these chambers found some dry ground put his boy on the side try to find something to wrap them in. And then waited for somebody to come find him, which luckily, they did another boy stopped breathing when he was sedated there were given ketamine, which is a very common sedative. But again, we're talking about one diver one boy in a dark tunnel. And they couldn't be sure if the boys had died or if something was wrong with them..
