"Thing. We're getting towards or did you have a point. I didn't want to cut your point. You're a science to slaps at that because what you're doing is if you multiply the universe by never explain your job ever do. Co. is the equivalent. I'm hearing you need to listen to him. He's a Clinton. You can't take that away for say speaking of diseases that they can't get to the bottom of whether or not their biological or psychological you backstage. You're telling me that you're very interested in what you called a cult diseases. What is that what you mean by that? Well the short answer. Oh wait I have no answers now. That's a nice stone. Basically we have a brain that creates the world around you. I would highly recommend anybody if you want to take a really good look at this. There's a marvelous neuroscientist named Anelle set at the University of Sussex and he has a great. Ted Talk which is titled Simply. Your Life is a hallucination I actually just showed it to some of my post. Docs where I was giving a talk post. Docs they love Ted talks. Suppose DOT COM. Pt Points Out. Is that none of this stuff is real. If you draw a necker cube anybody ever seen a necker. Whoa WHOA WHOA. Whoa WHOA Whoa John. What the hell man. What's hard are a Neka Hugh? It's always say to our friends my neck we built that joke. It's what's called a depth. Ambiguous figure anybody could draw a line. You could draw stairs whatever when you look at it. You'll see it'll flip one way then the other way one way than the other way. Almost everyone is seen one of these things you can. You look at it. You see one service on the other and the answer about it. Is that the brain telling you one side's forward than the other side for once. I fought the other side. But they're both wrong. It's just lines on a piece of paper and in fact in intellectual you know for a fact that that's what it is but you can't see it that way if I were to draw a beige like semicircle with a little hook on it and three lines coming up as a Coffee Cup if he showed it to someone in pap when a Guinea they would have no idea what they're looking at but every single person here would see a coffee cup part of our culture. Your brain creates your experience. There's no such thing as light. There's no such thing as sound. There's no such thing as hold on a second here all the way Rosanna. Very famous about about South American native tribes coming to. I don't even know if this is true but coming to the beach and seeing the Spanish galleons come in as the or. They can't even see they don't know what they're looking at. There's no visual language for them to be able to go. A ship is here and so they don't just aren't even stay with the lost boys of the Sudan when they would travel to like the UK or to America. The concept of an elevator was they were like the everything moot because it just. That's not a concept that had been introduced to their brain into their life on any level. But here's my thing with those kind of things. But then after it is introduced they get on the elevator top. Don't they just go elevator? And we move on. Yeah my wife loves the. Maybe it's all a simulation she's very much in that camp like it can all be a simulation but I'm very much in the camp of it's not a simulation is here. It's all happening overweight creek. Doctor He's not saying that. This is a simulation. And it's not real. He's saying this is real. But everything we see here is our perception of it with Your Eyes. You see with your brain. Your brain is processing paraphernalia. Empirical telling US everything that's happening exactly right. It's like the gorilla. Clint Eastwood Song where they say. Y'All can't see me now. You see with your eyes perceive with your mind. Oh Damn doctor doctor doctor doctor do. We have any questions from the crowd of before we wrap things up but we didn't get to. We didn't get to the juicy stuff about illnesses. Generally right but but but what are called illnesses? But we don't have to other any questions in the car. Oh we've got yes. I was wondering if you could speak to the this physical damage that can come out not from a physical trauma but from emotional trauma or abuse or ptsd if there is a If you treat or diagnose status well and if the severity ever matches phidias gauge. That's a good question. Is there physical physical changes that happened from emotional trauma? No give you a quick example. They did a study years ago at MIT. Try getting this through human subjects today where they put these prison matt glasses on people and they would walk around in the prisoner. Class turned the world upside down. So now you're walking around upside down and after thirty six hours you see right set up in. Your brain is so plastic it will invert the world if you see it upside down after thirty six hours your brain can do anything what your brain can do is so underestimated in our culture. We are so obsessed with the idea of physical brain things but the mind that has been the mind. Which is the humming Shimomura? That's coming off of millions of de Polarizations in your brain can imagine anything can think anything can tell you anything and many of the things that will tell you are not true and it can cause seizures caused blindness goes all kinds of effects where your brain perfectly fine. We even have. We literally have a pseudo seizure clinic at UCLA PSEUDO SEIZURES. Which are seizure put? A Halter Monitor eeg on someone to measure their brainwaves. They have whole seizure but nothing happens. In the brain pseudo seizures are so common we have a clinic in fact most major medical centers have a clinic for pseudo seizures. We really underestimate the power of mind compared to the power of brick and I just because I just I do want to speak to that also yes there are physiological changes that do happen with extended trauma and PTSD. There are clinical markers. But obviously what we're talking about it that there's again a tremendous amount of variability. It has to do with coping. Mechanisms has to do with other things that are going on with mental health challenges but PTSD. I mean we're we're seeing it more quantifiable you know as we get more sophisticated but things do change in the brain. One of them is court assault. So that just went right in your brain has receptors. Which is how things get transmitted and those receptors under pressure of combat or some other terrifying situation over and over and over and over. Yes it can actually change the way your neural system response to certain things. I'm just curious about the pseudo seizure thing what is happening. If it's not an actual brain seizure what what is the what is it? Why is it happening? You'll have you're here right now. I don't know why you wouldn't. Just tell me literally. Mush. I'll text you later. Okay great okay. Because we're never going to know. What are there any other questions any other questions from the from the cut? Why you've you've stunned them into. Oh yes Miami's book. A little bit to the sophistication at and as we get more sophisticated in our treatment and so I was wondering what areas of treatment or areas of your particular field of study Dr. Are you most excited about moving forward? Because obviously we're doing a lot to focus on mental health and drawing a connection making that more I don't know normal to seek that kind of care as a part of your standard physical care so just wondering what you see is like the next development near field. What's the future of neuro psychology? Go below but below the story. But I can't you'll have to. We'll have to have your back teaser. Kinko below bit story in my clinical practice over many years one of the things. That's really exciting. To be an important to me is about fifty years ago. We had an incredible medical revolution. We developed a series of drugs that change neurotransmitter turnover in your brain. They're unbelievable drugs. They're remarkably effective. They're very safe. They actually make your brain better and then we screwed ourselves by calling them anti depressants which is such a loser. It is such a dog food. Name One we have to get away from Hell Because all what's exciting to me? Is I see one hundred years from now. People will look back and say so. Wait a second. We're back in twenty twenty at that show then thought that the pain you feel when your dogs run over by a car and the pain you feel when your calf is burned by a radiator thought just completely different things and what we'll find is that they're not And so that that that bridging of that Cartesian split between your minds over here and your body's over here and your minds over there that's going to change. I think over time we're GONNA see how silly it is and I think that integration and particularly what we could call I don't know neuro modulators direct neurotransmitter medications would love to see antidepressants. Get out from under the stupid title of anti-depressants so the people who need them would take them so and do you think that the main argument about antidepressants now which is at their overprescribe. And they also have an effect on brain chemistry that is unpredictable and can create their own problem. Suicide -ality and Blah Blah Blah. What do you do? You think that's propaganda mostly or do you think that there's a real problems with that or what again. We're a scientology pro pro scientology. We all work at the psychology kills museum industry of Death. Yeah you're under arrest you're going on about you're not getting out of your life where year be CR. We're on a boat. We've been sailing this whole time in. My clinical experience ended depressants way under prescribed way under under prescribed interesting see patients all the time who are quite depressed and I say to them so you know go through their medication list and are taking say twenty milligrams of PROZAC. And I'll say I'm kind of wondering that no one ever raised your PROZAC level. And say.

"It makes you feel a little bit more elite So you know they need something short and snappy and easy and people understand that you're getting a little bit more for it. I think the thing for me that makes it pro is like someone who spends like literally all day on. You're listening to podcasts. Or making software taking focus is like I just need more battery life and I think the fact that this year apple finally put more more battery in the back of these things Komo for be like having that extra life is what makes it pro. Actually it's more lot. Yeah if you make a huge case so now let me ask. Because I wasn't clear. Is this five. The PRO maxing has five hours more battery life than what the tennis Max like their equivalent. So it is. It is head head-to-head it is more but we don't lot five hours. Yeah we do know that the news display. They're saying I think the OLE is fifteen percent more efficient okay and the The new processor is likely more efficient to these. This is where the battery life is coming from. An I've also been hearing from a lot of people installed. IOS Thirteen the public Beta thirteen one. That's much more efficient. They're better battery life. So it's an all three fronts apple. The new processor is the a thirteen bionic. Is that right belief. So yeah sorry so I think I think that's the that's the other thing by the way with the pro designation Last last year the ten are and the tennis phones had the exact same processor yes and that was a big price difference. Now it's like I feel eleven basic iphone pro still with the same processor. Yeah and that's it's I I don't know I kind of wish. There was a little more of a bump. They're just really earned that title Right now we have the extra camera You have the lead really nice refreshing special screens and the kind of slick not slick but like the Matt Glass back and the stainless steel construction. That's all you're getting. That's surgical stainless stainless surgically yes grave. That was really weird because like I'm not going to perform an open heart surgery with my phone. I could see that in a scalpel but a phone. I don't know yeah I think for me. The most frustrating thing about the whole eleven eleven eleven perot. Max Is As you can see here they ship the case for your phone ahead of the actual news. I hate that you get a box from a go. It would. It's here folks this just the flipping case you really you really all in an apple because you bought the apple apple clear case which is forty dollars and as far as I could tell functionally identical these seven ninety nine one I bought surgical.

"Very outspoken on this is where I got my beef with her too but everyone thinks I'm off my rocker when I say so because she has a gazillion followers on on this week's episode of twit and for keeping me in line with all of my dog on subscriptions subscriptions do the bottom of this on the grounds that I might incriminate myself so I got a I got a box earlier today we'll talk about that and I learned how to buy and so the other day I got a box and it was actually a nest Kamini you're super excited to get this many to on this week in Google because I was a little disappointed because I thought it might be the Pixel xl that I was waiting for war and what do you know that Oh yes I know that last week on this show or just Sunday on had her pixel four to show off and everything so this is not new news the twit panel but but it's okay to brag that you get your before brand got great battery because it's the Xl yes okay Lisa's got a larger battery life but I thought we could kind of touch a little bit on kind of a little bit of a roundup of some of the reviews that we have heard she'd spent I don't know how many days you probably had like five days or whatever and she gave a kind of a good good rundown now we're starting to hear what everybody else thinks and now that I've got I can put to the test I'm a little concerned about some of the some of the aspects of this and actually make a you know you're going to be using this phone here pretty soon I am aim we're GonNa do the switch Oh yes wait I didn't realize we're actually switching devices that we use that's that's the point of the Swinney because this is what you agree I gotta get a case for my midnight green phone so you don't yes please Oh God my baby did you yes my we've got we can we can hammer out the details it doesn't have the bad thing all right so it sounds like from what the reviews I don't know I didn't prep for it over the shoulder shot so my apologies that I didn't do Cook looks good we can do that sounds like some of the some of the reviews a lot of them are kind of on similar footing on a lot of these points memory the six games is a memory performance is great clean delivery of the software everything everything looks like a really smooth and nice launcher this is the pixel launcher the stock launcher. That's how it looks you got your over there. Is that your typical launcher that you like on your devices if I'm using Pixel I've got kind of the stock lunch are going to change that The design like so this was like pulling out of the box was my first exposure to the phone I gotta say I really like this like Matt Glass Approach Mike is GonNa pod at a little bit so is this what is this rubberized or plastic or what's this around the site I mean the black part the we'll do you know what mature aged on the front and back feel why is the aluminum and the glass kind of feel very similar so they do some really interesting texture rising this is the Panama all right a little less are- with that being glossing just wanted to know what it tasted like come on it don't don't taste my phone listeners watching I pretended to like the device or have you activated the radar and face unlock the face unlock is fast I have to say something to hold it up and at that time it was known that was pretty average their nose stage fright that's pretty average didn't even do at that time oh boy well don't worry don't worry I froze my pad on air so it's not a surprise it's not me it's failing it's the phone the display looks really nice you know it's the ninety hurts everybody's calling that outsiders so apparently Assistant day time to play around with that but people say they're notable I gotta say when I hear people talk about speakers on this phone or any smartphone unlike to stop no I do this all the time to do this aunt their smartphone speakers they're not gonna sound good until you unless you put it in a bowl or something they're not gonNa Sound good sound great but to to pump out the sound a lot of people will just listen to stuff from the phone yeah but he's will never sound as good as larger speakers but within the cell but whereas a continuum between bad and good reviews and people onto speakers don't sound all that great I think they're never going to sound this is a big hardly going to sound because okay I'll go ahead and put your playing devil's advocate taking up for it I'm not buying no I'll I'll go ahead bringing the Walmart on the ten point one inch and I'll play some music from those speakers okay oh no God okay at least this so I have not played her Alba's solely I'm afraid to test it out at the reviews seem to be saying on average that it's just not always reliable utilized supposedly it's speeds face on lock but we just a few minutes right right Yeah and then I think the big downside I'm worried about is battery and actually maybe not on the on the excel because they accelerate seeing folks who got the smaller one we're really leaning about battery life but the folks who've gotten the big one among followed they were okay with it I'm just concerned one of these days I'm GonNa Walk into office and he's going to be at his desk on this what does he what is he doing over this beating forward Oh yeah sure 'cause you're getting one here and commercial but all you have made a mistake we have yeah would I do well we hung out last night we went to common news and Shannon Moore's showed me her pixel for the exile exile four Pixel xl and it had a Pok Mon wallpaper that when you wiped when you swipe your hand across the front of it then the pokemon would do some sort of direction oh and so your skin doesn't have that and that's something going on in the background right now there is a live wild paper acted at all here will set this up because I think if I remember correctly it ships on the phone by default what did the POKEMON company I'm pretty sure I'm just gonNA put a Tiger Online and all the today that's so boring Tiger Paul that moves when you saw maybe okay maybe I will look for that probably have to have to Unpick soulful style Clemson folks if Y'all have a nice Clemson wallpaper that would look good on this hit me up please thank you google the excellent okay it's called pokemon wave hello as the AP Oh right okay all right next to the rescue so quickly Dan Whoa machine all right wall installed that and see I don't know if I'll get to it in time but we'll certainly know we're waiting I'm scared you don't understand last week I or on Sunday I keep forgetting it has not been a full week since last episode I believe the talked about the face unlock with the eyes closed it Google has since said that they're gonNA do a fix on that and they're gonNA security security now as well right I'm not sure okay so I installed it that was fast it was really pokemon okay so if you want to show it you can we can see what this is all about pokemon on with gestures apparently quick gestures used gestures above the phone to play with pokemon characters okay so something like that Oh detected it okay well this is our this is why I don't get the hang with the cool kids 'cause my goodness I just pink ooh Oh my gosh you are obviously of the pokemon generation I firmly yes okay so I want to get you that was good oh look it said Pika chew on the screen Gosh Face Okay our little heart so you train did that's what that was doing training the training or more more just like in loving your little love Niro Pal okay all right it is Weirdo to like stop like why does it have to be out here that's Kinda WanNa go all right yeah that's a good point why I don't know but anyways all right so this is neat I suppose example of the solely radar that is up here I do like the aspect of having a jet iphone but I'm not that it gets to be your wallpaper I think that's the cool part so it can there's live wallpaper and so when you pull up your phone and we'll do a little bit of thing but then you could easily wipe over and then it'll interact so she had evi and Pika Chew as her background okay all right well I don't think that that was installed with the APP you got the magic four x l edge that's what it is chromium I'll be honest his I'll be honest I'm excited about the phone but I'm only cited about the camera I don't wait what you were excited about cameras that doesn't that's that's about it the camera I just wanted put it on a tripod and do some astros stuff 'cause just just to see what it's like and also to help prove that it does take Ludi bit of effort to get that stuff right yeah because everybody's sort of assuming you can just just hold it up to the sky and boom it's done I know it's not quite like that the time what's the astros stuff you're talking about it a shoot long exposures of the sky at night to let you see the Milky Way but again you need to have your cameras still you know if you've got a little amount put it up there hit the button step back how long does it shoot for thirty seconds I think Kevin Telephone shot his for longer than thirty seconds when he shot it and work really really well little cool where did you see this is this online somewhere he was on this week in Google but he may have it on about chromebooks Dot Com but it it was it was pretty fascinating but the rest of the stuff enjoy ten already got it yeah and it works and doesn't they do on it and it works that's all I need you know you doing this crazy wallpaper stuff I can care less I just need a need to phone to work far as the messages which is another mystery Google handling phone calls talk about that yeah please I've seen some things about that right and then taken some beautiful photographs now granted some into testing like the side by side between the the eleven pro Max what you call it versus the Pixel how did a lot of this stuff on iphone loose better yeah this generation iphone especially when you're talking about the low light staff there's actually in the in the rundown article on Mackerel world Michael Simon did kind of a iphone eleven versus Pixel for nightside low light kind of shootout and at least in the pictures letter posted in this article the iphone eleven is solid of this stuff whereas the pixel four in some some instances Kinda just looks a little bit too blown out right and it's almost like it's it's frightening maybe a little bit too much in some areas but some of them actually are very comparable and yeah I wondered how long apple was just going to allow Google soupy the raining and stuff tonight stuff I knew that wasn't I knew that wasn't a fight that apple was just going to be like well I guess I guess I feel glad you're competing just transcribing everything you're saying gray this listening to you that's handy I totally totally secure I'm glad apple jumped in with this with this raisin what does it call the deep Diffusion yeah on a sweater mode sweater mode I'm glad they jumped in because now they can continue to push google to get to get better with this each and every you know iteration of it for sure for sure then granted I know most people are just won't to just TAP IT and shoot in you know make it look good yeah you you wanted to just work it just were talking to you know I do yeah take some photos from some different angles and see when I zoom what happened everybody doesn't have a nice day seven three or four like Mr LaPorte has you know but the they have a nice phone take advantage of and they probably have their phone on them and they don't have great asset ever that right raise our for our to detail helped me and my only hope so tell me about this this message first thing I guess people are carriers jumping on board with yes this is interesting Google and it's surging mass whatever you WANNA call it's nine thousand messaging history and it again failure my goodness sorry ever clearly trained your phone who all it's listening for is the word Google at this point so entry messing as we know as we've talked about so many times in this network you lose your you've heard it sucks because there's no one clear definitive approach at least on Iowa's you have I messages everybody's on that it works it's secure it's feature film feature rich you so great you know you can party and and be happy we don't we throw ourselves a pity party because on android it's a new thing every year and Google has tried and tried and tried and my goodness they cannot future they wanted to they were basically at that point saying look we can't do it so why don't we replace SMS with this new The the new standard called ours and you know you can do in a.

"It wouldn't do the white one for me. I wouldn't do yellow or purple for me and then the green one. I picked it up and I was just really happy with it. Like you know the difference. You get used to plus. If you're coming from the five point eight inch screen to the six inch screen the battles almost like proportionate in the screen the difference I thought I would hate in mentioned last week is is the difference between Nola Nelson D for me me. I absolutely would feel terrible about upgrading from LSAT LCD because I loved our Komo dark moods everywhere now there is a visible difference that I can see. I won't say that this is not it. It's especially visible. If you're in a dark environment with brightness her way up with with a dark modern dawn or especially if it's like at an angle not like direct you you know directly viewing by outside you know even with dark mode turned on like. I was looking just to see like where does the screen in the notch began and you can you can get a pretty good level of darkness on on the LCD screen that I found impressive where just at a glance you wouldn't make out what screen and what is the Basil so I'm happy expected to be with that. How often do you watch like a movie on your phone not often and I have like I've watched like TV shows on the phone and bad but but but but that that was part of the equation was I'll use the IPAD or the Mac more often than that and those are. LCD and I totally live with those and then my TV Isola Ola and I always appreciate the TV being all at you know for movies and TV shows but on the phone because the extended range stuff comes into play when you're watching four K. hastier movies on the phone but my student data very often. They're on their IPAD or they're watching on TV. Say I think a lot of the like are they know CD Steffi's kind of IT Walsh like it doesn't in the scheme of things isn't worth the extra money and look at you spend all your day looking at a laptop screen or an. I Max screen every day right yeah. The NEO CDs have a better in many regards and the you don't it blue shift you get more better whites like off. The screen associate period just like overwhelms everything else. It's not even close. It's there's no even he's not that far apart yeah well there are there are also benefits del. CD Then Sola like I mentioned before like I think that would be stuck on lead because of dark moon and how often I used mode but I would definitely see see the visuals smearing effect of of dark mode on old lad winnow whenever you're like scrolling list something in this just like you see it refresh slowly in front of you where it's not perfect and it didn't bother me so much that I didn't want to use dark mode but I did notice it not happening isn't as the iphone eleven years like Oh. There's something nice about. This phone is not to say the screen is better because each trade offs right like I like the screen then if we live with iphones CDs for so long and going like super upset about it in fact the days on the iphones used to compete very well against the Andrew. Francis reached our that at the time just because apple already ready good if you're hyman. You're like all the are that screen be white. You know it's not it's not really true like is better on unbalanced three hundred dollars bad now hi. It's good that all as the only option on the Apple Watch for what it is but I'm on the phone call that I've got the experience now of using this for a week and you know I've got a new appreciation for that this will none of this will matter next year and the iphone are all ed who all the new iphone zero lead right because it isn't that the rumor that the the ten or eleven the replacement for that they'll they'll all three have screens yeah. That's the the current thing is that there's going to be five point four inches six point one six point seven in ob lead so there should be an even smaller quantified and five point eight so but yet we're not. GonNa have OCD difference at least according to the current Raymond's Yup and then the other thing is is is very much on the podcast week which is just the value of the whole thing so there's a there's a few things like even with the trade and so from my wife. Trading van from the the base model iphone tennis Max to seize your goodbyes. She got enough credit that made the iphone eleven cost ninety nine dollars unlocked. Sim Free and you just put your Sim card from your phone in there and it was a really easy process for me. It would have been two hundred dollars. I think the difference was that just iphone ten versus tennis Max by by two hundred dollars. I was thinking that's not bad and I maybe I can live with sixty four gigabytes because of these things I called photo librarian offload already so and and then I was apple music. I'm okay with having some local and most streaming but what we discussed last week. was you know for the money you can you can upgrade you. Can W storage needs to win. Twenty eight for forty nine dollars dollars whereas on the pro phones you know cost one hundred and fifty to go up to the one hundred fifty two to fifty six and there's there's no fifty dollar upgrade option to double is makes a Lotta sense for me as I don't care so much about like the iphone as a as a whole I do care about the camera and losing to axe is a bummer like I'm having to break the habit of tapping in on the next button into go to two x because they can't do anymore. I saw out friends. Don't let friends use the yeah but I am Mike Finding like Easter. Take a picture from this far away and now I've gotta move closer to get that same picture or just just not used Azuma on that but also got my Sony Rx one hundred mach five point and shoot camera which has incredible obstacles. AM So for for Cambridge size so I've got options there and then I really enjoy the new wide. Angle camera like it kind of takes me back to around two thousand five. I had this like dedicated fish-eye thirty five millimeter film camera that I love to take the school and around town with and just take like these really you know fish I affect cameras because that was like the film that was attached to the by of the camera and like you know develop the film and everything Gretz really fine pictures from from around five like that you know the ultra-wide isn't in quite that intense is kind of like when you when you got the low clip Lynn's attachment and you've got fish I and then you've got just ultra-wide like that. You know you you you don't get the as much of a bubble effect like you know black edges and corners but you get more content in the frame and then there is some there is some bubble effect in the corner sometimes but just just taking pictures and video in that mode it takes me back back to that that camera I used to have and and then there's also some practical uses for it to actually get shot that you want so I've been very much enjoying that the ads for like eleven versus pro. I am totally happy. The green color like brought me joy when I picked it up in a way that like it's all emotional and not you know practical but it was worth disagreed alone and I would like the weekend without using case and I think I've just like jeans all the time in that was not a problem. The phone was my pocket but now I just usually like running towards a lot and so it's Celaya pocket with with like gym shorts so after a few days I wouldn't ah the a case for it. My wife has declared case. I'd tried it and it's not just the buttons being stubborn that make make me not happy with with Apple's fouquet's also just like seeing the insides of the clear case it hasn't magnification effect on the phone parts of it or you're like looking through a clear case and I don't love that it feels weird to me so I think the best clear case that there are for iphones especially with the open and bottom prescribing around and doing the dishes it need to do but it's not for me so I just went with the eleven you only get to color options you get black or white eight and with the black silicon silicone case and we talked about the difference in the in the back of the phones with class Matt Matt Glass on the WPRO models and it's the inverse the camera bump the non-pro models were it has the Matt Glass and so with an iphone case on it like you're using. I'm using thing you only see the glass on the F. and eleven and it's a big enough camera square that you see a lot of it and so even with the case I still feel like I've got the green phone because show must have it shows through some like green accents yeah exactly not just on the bottom and the mute switch but also like the camera. There's no missing. This is the green iphone and does that Matt Glass. There's all the shiny glass so it's like it is the new material here who'll do so. I'm really happy with that. I love the color of it. I I love the phones. Are I think there's two hours more by life that I should be getting and I used to use the smart battery case since it came out for the ten hours and so I think I was technically getting more better life with the battery case than than just with. Let's switch to the different phone but and so I'm seeing like in the red twenty percent at the end of the day is going to go back to charging aging more often. It's not like the blow a better life that you might get with the Max phone now. which is a factor for me but you know we're expected? There will be as mark better case. We've already seen evidence of that reported it so I'll probably buy a smart battery case for whatever it comes out and then just use that but it's a real upgrade experience for me even with losing the two X. Optical zoom camera because it's the bigger screen and you know I it it does show more content than the iphone ten ass dead and you get the the landscape the appearance which was to be useful. Sometimes it's always a mixed bag without whether it's benefit or a hindrance but I'm happy with yeah and you don't need the two x lends to take good pictures. I think there's a misconception out. There is always using all three cameras. Is it time to make you know to generate these days and it's just not true like switches relatively seamlessly from one to.

"ESPN fast charging SPEC is is proprietary very to them. It's called warp charge but it can charge up. I think seventy percent of the battery in thirty minutes okay so you plug it in and you get this nice satisfying lightning bolt on the screen and I mean that just goes up now. Does it wirelessly church. That's one of the downsides does not have wireless charging and I just hard to imagine at some point. They're going to introduce that on their pro models. that just seems to be time and time again one of the one of the things that people are giving to plus phones. We're getting more and more used wireless charging so it's kind of a bummer do not have it but it's not a deal breaker in my opinion is not really gripped vol- which I like yeah and purdy. It is very pretty yeah. They do the Senate like Matt Glass. I'm Shawn the back. I'm a little creeped out by the Circle Camera. I don't know why I think it looks like Weird Scary ocular center. How about this all Aula Alah show you what you need to know here. Let me take a picture of you. Now does not look like a camera right kind of looks like a camera sensor all right all right I I won't be. I'm not going to be able to win you over. I realize no I tried. What if I held it up to my is is if I was looking through the viewfinder. I think that's even worse okay then. It kind of looks like it is now in the Cyborg well then it's a wounded. Tell you let me tell you what I do like. I love the the tiny tiny notch on the front. Yeah it's a little teardrop notch up on the top. They have a pro version that is expected to come out next next month and the pro version which today I introduced about five months. AGO has a popout camera that comes out the top. I people think that's Dorky. I think it's amazing. I thought it was Dorky until I used it and actually one plus. Seven pro pro has it. I haven't in the other room. If you want to take a look at it and it worked so well like it actually is is really great. It's a it's a part that could potentially be broken and and so I know that that's like that's one of the issue anytime you add some sort of mechanical ely. That's a concern but I think it looks really cool whenever that happens yeah but you don't have that on the seventeenth seventeen seventeen has the teardrop in pre in place of it. I think is fine. It's really high up there. It's high up there. It's relatively unobtrusive. It's kind of out of the way so I agree. I like the teardrop approach but now those cameras what we did you mention so they are. Let's see are a forty eight megapixel main and then I believe it's a sixteen eighteen megapixel telephoto. Don't quote me on that one but it's a telephoto and then an ultra wide so you've got kind of the three main styles of shooting and many also added a new super macro Mo- soup or close to style my God. It's really cool. This is the several pro by the way I was just one. That has the IT. Does it does but it's not powered on. I don't know if it'll be powered on time. Powered up and see what I will say. Is this we will have to. I don't know where it will go folks but we will post a super. Macro of one of the multiple banana toys that I have okay yeah all right. Let's make sure and not forget to do that. Alexa remind me to take a macro of a banana. Thank you all right and everybody that has a device. Now has that reminder as well. It's exactly you're welcome. and I'm sorry so that's the seventy in very quick nutshell. If you WANNA find my full review you can twit DOT TV Slash H. O. T. for hands on tech you can also find it on the Hansa Tech Youtube Channel but I'd say for six hundred dollars. It's really hard to pass this up. You get a lot of phone for one last question. How do get into it. Is it face skin in display fingerprint sensors see down. There's little little thumb marker it's hard to do this backwards but is it out out. Sonic is it it is ultrasonic or sorry sorry. It is obstacle. I apologize is optical but it's way faster than the ultrasonic ones on the galaxy series. I know Sean is more safe but it's also very frustrating so I like being able to actually get on the phone as the ninety hurts display pro-immigration display every street bruce yes swoopy and Super Swazi so what you got for your story of the week well. It's not a phone Let's see what do I have seen. Owi Susa Google translate power trump and to Tara Day day Espanyol definitive Mente no Debra Riaz who SARLA horror examiner. I las refer heroes. Okay then simply I that was good. I understood the first two words extensively that says if you shouldn't use Google translate to cheat on your Spanish homework you definitely shouldn't be using it to the vet refugees however I'd bet that any Spanish speaker could tell you where Google translate made a Lotta mistakes in that and where I made state mistakes and pronunciation but that's an aside had a new report from PROPUBLICA details how immigration officials are using Google translate to vet refugees social media posts so there's this whole new deal where before we let refugees into the country if we even do that they are using social media looking at their social media pages and trying to see if through their social media they can gain some sort of understanding about the person and see if it's safe to let them into the country but there's actually so it's a manual that's from the US citizenship and immigration services page and it reads the most efficient approach to translate foreign language content is to utilize one of the many free online language translation services provided by Google Yahoo Bing and other search engines there are plenty of language experts and plenty of Spanish teachers I and also Google itself that says Yup. Don't use Google translate to even do your homework if you have it because Google translate it was never made to replace human translators. It's like it's like a rough translation I would say and while it has improved tremendously even the last couple of years yes probably in my opinion. I was in my Spanish. Homework was not helpful at all these days yeah. I mean this kind of technology has really come a long way but I mean efficiency. When lives are literally take it just doesn't seem like the right pairing for this and also what what it struck me as was that saying all you have is a hammer? Everything looks like a nail in in the case of this like whether the translations are good or not if they are not then they become in themselves strange and suspect and therefore if someone has a wider ambition to keep people out of the country that just helps that helps to that degree and much more to use a tool that is inefficient and inaccurate yeah absolutely one of the you know. They talked to several different. Don't folks about this several different people who are I think there was somebody who was both a cognitive development teacher and a person who studies languages which is and the fact is. I probably have tweeted before some thing I something weird like. I don't know horses are who'll but not on Wednesdays. What does that mean. It doesn't mean anything and there's what the point that I'm trying to get out there. Is that oftentimes we we put out on social media things that either we don't mean or things that have a different meaning based on oil and how it said and that is being used negativity pitifully in these cases to to make a difference. I mean like you said literally. People's lives are at stake and that's one of the the issues here now. I I want to quote. I'm trying to find where they had a okay. So here we go there was an early language post on twitter and the person person that the person who actually translated who teaches at the University of Pennsylvania it was they were talking about their parents. I have been spanked a lot and also gathered a lot of love for my parents so they're kind of talking about their upbringing. However when Google translate that sentence it came out as the beating is too big and the love is too windy okay close yeah yeah close in some yeah no of course it all right. There's a lot of nuance that is lost in translation quite literally uh-huh and a lot of nuance in the way that we communicate on social media versus how we communicate no shot loud again horses versus other important things yes so anyway. I found this fascinating read and basically PROPUBLICA got these documents from the group that is in charge charge of deciding who gets to be admitted to the United States as immigrants or refugees and who does not so yeah that's my story of interesting interesting and hopefully they come up with a better way to do this than distal grabbed off the Internet. Free software lives are on the line. I don't know if that's a good combination nations. They need more human translators. Yes that's basically that's exactly what they need up. "Hello will heiress Hello Leo it's so good to be back. It feels like it's been a minute. It has probably been a year or two will was one of the original twit participants going way way back my ten fifteen years yeah way back in time had a few jobs since then last time cobbing asked digital director Conde Nast Honda Europe now from from that he's got a new startup yeah working on startup cool n tail until they'll come E. N. T. A. L. E. dot com which is a visual visual interactive podcast APP so as you're listening to your podcasts you get the links that people are talking a barrier and you get the performance of the people that are on the show. LSU Kinda a deep dive into into the audio that you're listening to Weei need that according to Eric in the chat room. You haven't been on in four years since since December two thousand fifteen wow that seems possible. Ah can't be right. Well welcome back. I apologize will thank you very much yeah yeah so I guess apple had some sort of Shindig on Tuesday by innovation. Only there were a few people said okay. Hey if you're going to have an invitation that says by innovation you best innovate Devendra now first of all. You probably already ready have an iphone but you can't say it because I don't have it but I have touched them and they're very nice. Oh Oh you can say that a video phone yes the iphone eleven was a weird it was kind of a weird event for apple I had so much to talk about that they had had to jam it and they didn't start with their traditional owed to money-making and the stores they kicked they kicked right into Apple Arcade Plus TV plus and then they I went to the watch by the time they got the IPHONE. which I thought was going to be the story of the hour the only announced one the iphone eleven? I said the most successful iphone this year was was the iphone ten are here's its successor the iphone eleven now with two lenses and I thought well this is interesting the the big I think the big story there was the price which is fifty bucks less than the iphone ten are at six ninety nine and then they said Oh oh and by the way there are some other phones the iphone pro eleven pro and the iphone eleven flashbacks. I'm sorry PROMEX rollbacks. I say Flex 'cause I can't remember the all the all y'all have slow fee. There's a lump they all have slow fees SLO MO cell. Oh fees so these this is apples now in a tick talk talk situation. Aren't they six. They used to be every other year would be an asset and kind of the same form factor but a little bit improved and then a big improvement. The next year like the ten was a big improvement at the tennis was a talk and this is really a talk to the talk isn't it. I think it Kinda that speaks to like how a smartphone upgrade cycles are working now to like. Most people keep their two or three years. Here's it kind of makes sense. There's no point like killing yourself to bring something new and groundbreaking out every two years when you can kind of coast on how people actually buy if he's phones and take some more time with that hardware so yeah. I'm not surprised at this. Year's phones aren't too revolutionary. It is nice having an extra lens across the line. The three lenses the pros that's GonNa be really interesting. they really cleaned up the phone names to cause the ten are and the tennis. Those were all really dumb because there's a real L. numeral so it looks like it's just it was a mess so eleven nice and clean. I've eleven pro macbook MAC pro. It's all good and I think we're all expecting expecting the big big upgrade to be next year's when we're GONNA see five eight most likely the twenty twenty iphones but is there such a thing Georgia as a professional yeah you know professional for the phone that you have in your pocket better than but you know no understand automatic and a MAC pro I understand the macbook pro or even an IPAD and IPAD probe right yeah that's starting to stretch it on more for pros just easy and quick and it makes you feel a little bit more elite so exactly now but they need something short and snappy and easy and people understand that you're getting a little bit more for it. I think the thing for me makes it pro as someone who spends like literally all day on your phone because the light listening need to podcasts or making software making guys is like I just need more battery life and I think the fact that this year apple finally put more more battery in the back of these things for be like having that extra life is what makes it pro. It's more matters a lot yeah. If you make make a huge case so now let me ask because I wasn't clear. Is this five the iphone pro maxing has five hours more battery life than what the tennis Max like like their equipment so it is it is head to head. It is more but we don't lot five hours. Yeah we do know that the new display they're saying I think the new ole is fifteen percent more efficient and the new processor is likely more efficient so these this is where the battery life is coming from probably I've also been hearing from a lot of people have installed. IOS Thirteen eighteen the public Beta and thirteen one. That's much more efficient. They're better battery life so straight on all three fronts apple. The new processor is the a thirteen bionic. Is that right beliefs. Oh yeah sorry so I think that's the that's the other annoying thing by the way with the pro WPRO designation last year the ten are the tennis phones had the exact same processor yes and that was a big price difference now. It's like iphone eleven basic iphone pro still with the same processor yeah and that's I don't know I kind of wish there was a little more of a bump. They're just really earned that pro title straight now where you have the extra camera so you have the alleged really nice refreshments screens and the kind of slick not slick but like the Matt Glass back and the stainless steel construction. That's Cardinal. You're you're getting. That's surgical stainless. Surgically yes grave thought was really weird because like I'm not going to perform an open heart surgery with my phone. I could see that in a scalpel but a phone. I don't know yeah I think for me. The most frustrating thing about the whole eleven eleven eleven Brent Levin Peru Max is as you can see here. They ship the case your head of the actual I hate that you get a box from a I go oh my would. It's just the flipping case you really you you really all in an apple because you bet the apple clear case which is forty dollars and as far as I could tell this identical these seven ninety nine one. I bought surgical. Oh break clear you're paying for but you know it will fit just right so that's probably important okay so so the so the this is a seven nanometer processor. This is actually I think apple deserves more credit for its custom processors than they're getting This looked looked like and it was interesting because they brought somebody for the first time I can ever remember from the processor group up on stage. Oh yeah it was like an out for a second there. It was like Whoa half billion transistors or something. It's just it's mind boggling what they're doing. I think they're my guess is they're highlighting these guys because they're eventually going to be making processors processors for the entire kit right all the way all the way up to the computers I think if we're we're seeing snapdragon laptops already and windows machines running on Snapdragon so so they they are kind of setting the stage it just kind of make sense like oh but by next year if we see a Mac book powered by the a fourteen or whatever we wouldn't be too surprised. I guess I I do have to say that increase battery life and it's across the line although five hours is the longest promex if that's accurate and we won't know until I guess I'm going to guess that at places like in Gadget and I'm more have embargoed units that they'll report on it. I'm GonNa Guess Wednesday usually a few days before they ship they get the the reviews started coming out and all the main stream publications so we won't really know and then Friday I fix it will won't be in Australia and they will get at midnight. They will get their iphone. Take it apart immediately so we'll then know how much battery we'll know a little bit more about the processor the cameras and all that stuff but I you know I think if they really get literally get five hours more. That's huge. That's thirty forty percent. That's a big difference Prince. It's a big deal like I don't know if it's enough to upgrade from tennis models if you have one of those battery life on an iphone interest. That's what you do with your phone right. It's nice not to have to find a place to charge your phone so if you're using it all the time this may be worth it. I think it's extremely carry one of those lovely. You know hunchback kind of battery cases on the back so that's curry the ugly I carry I currently they have the the the tennis Max with the battery case a while and it is like carrying a brick eight a battery so one one of the the these little on Friday Friday coincidentally happens to be my birthday's could be like nice birthday on the planet because going and picking those guys up and then getting the pipe while I was getting the pipes and out of the pocket and be Very Brett Cavenaugh story from college you don't you don't WanNa share that one too soon way you too soon so that's an example of that because johnny is left but the Johnny Ivy era. It's always he's been center center center. Center Center apple didn't say thinner once they said better battery life Hallelujah heavier they are data you know after the Ben Gate I think they went. You know what thinner is probably not better. I think that he believes enough panic stricken. Let's make sure it's actually better uh-huh enough. Every Olympics are getting added weight because of this the surgical grade steel and believe new display like I so from just suspects alone the T. V. Ten Perot Max or the eleven pro Max ways half a pound. This is the heaviest iphone we've already made yeah I feel I feel like they were waiting between that and the the new keyboards on the new macbook prayers I feel like they would just literally like waiting. Thank God Butterfly Keyboard the keyboard at an extra little bit way on that like thank God Janis no hair to to say I can't be the case but still does feel like that doesn't Camp I mean he just left a jeff before he latte has been on the works. it wasn't a quick fix unless there was a skunkworks in the back of the campus when when Johnny beliefs were gonNA show this keyboard yeah the reports were they. He basically checked out for the past couple of years yeah so who knows like how now yeah yeah. I hope you're right. We'll Harris. I do hope there is a new and by the way I think it's pretty clear because apple only announced the low end ipad the three twenty nine version and with the giant they look out they giant vessels the home button a fingerprint reader they only announced that which means we know thanks to the the European database that there are at least two more models coming. I think that I saw that so. There's gotTA B. and they're gonNa we know there's a MAC pro coming this year if you can afford it and we know that so we see I think there's going to be October event with all of these things right that makes sense yeah yeah so yeah I would say it disappointed like on the back to sort of entry level ipad things.

There's gotTA B. and they're gonNa we know there's a MAC pro coming this year if you can afford it and we know that so we see I think there's going to be October event with all of these things right that makes sense yeah yeah so yeah I would say it disappointed like on the back to sort of entry level ipad things

"There's the lightning ecosystem is just is too big and and also for the IPAD pro. I think a lot of it was for the the power delivery fast charging doing of something that has a giant battery whereas even even an iphone pro I think is still going to have a a normal normal ish battery and probably even US continue to have a smaller battery than the whatever the X. are become so yeah I it sound lightning and yeah and it would be even if the even if the rumor mill were silent on it I would I would say lightning. I'll say and I'm GONNA say so the rumor mill. It doesn't go that far ahead. I honestly honestly still believe that the iphone every iphone will have lightning from now through the end of time until they don't even have a port as long as there's a port that you plug into it'll be lightning. I think all right yeah I don't. I OUR AL at least for the next five years. I don't know who knows what would happen. Five years from the thing people people don't i. I say this and I know some people are so skeptical and think that every corporation no matter which one that you did that they're full of shit with everything they say but with apple pull a lot of the time you really can take them at their word and their explanation when the IPAD pro switched to USC was that these the IPAD I pro is meant as an alternative to a traditional laptop. PC and therefore it they're sweet using including including USB so that you can use PC peripherals. That's what they said they also mentioned specifically that it supports higher faster charging rates and it comes with a what what is that pet charger. I forget how many watts think it's eighteen ships with an eighteen gene watt but it can take advantage of up to thirty watt charger to charge even faster so if you spend more money or the smarter thing go to somebody but he likes anchor and by Third Party thirty Watt Charger you can charge your ipad pro faster and those things are tiny. They're certainly tightening. Anchored in particular are really really tiny. That's what they said and I think that's what they mean well well. I don't think the IPHONE will be able to take advantage of thirty watt charging. I mean it'd be interesting. I guess that's one small thing that we can conjectures is will apple finally ship it with more than than a five watt charger classier still ship with five. Watt chargers and I know I know the nerds out there and I know a lot of you who are listening to my show or in that think that that's outrageous but there really is a flip side to it. which is that a lot of people like that chart the charger that they ship with iphones because it's so small and because therefore it fits anywhere where there's a plug it will fit and it fits in a woman's purse even if it's a very small small perverse so they can carry your charger with them everywhere they go and there's there really are? I've talked to people at Apple about this and I know people think it's because Tim Cook is is a Tightwad and wants to squeeze an extra five dollars out of every iphone sold by shipping a cheaper charger but there really are millions ends and millions and millions of iphone users who prefer the little square five watt charger because it's because it's small and they don't care if it's lower and I know people don't people listen to the show. Don't believe me but I know that that's true so hopefully what they'll do is ship it with a higher capacity charger. That's relatively small yeah if they could get a faster or whatever you WanNa call it a higher capacity charge in that same exact size or keep it up and make it even smaller I'm not sure how possible that is either but I don't think it's funny. I just spent four months. Overseas in the chargers are so big there well anyway the F. U. K. Ones look like some kind of like something out of a Terry Gilliam film like it's mental look silly. It's crazy. I mean that in your pocket but yeah the other the ones in France France were were bigger but they were kinda skinny. It was kind of a good a shape but yeah I I. Here's the other thing is. I think that Apple Pie knows does this to that. Probably Ninety percent of charging occurs you know Ed at nighttime while people are are sleeping so the speed the charge is probably less important than what what's obviously a bigger problem is when you're almost outta battery and you need a quick charge and and that's where both of these things about the five five watt and also the wireless charging which is increasingly common. Neither of those things really help with that. They don't help in that oops the holy crap. I forgot to charge my phone or like every once in a while like I have the bedside wireless charging thing but it's you know and the one I have a forget the Murphy you know it's okay at the sweet spot isn't too small but it you know once every two months sure so. I'll have a night where I didn't quite hit it and I'll wake up in the morning and my phone didn't charge at all it would be nice now usually with the way I live my life working. Here doesn't doesn't really matter but if I had to leave the house every day for you know a commute or something like that. It would be nice. It's nice every once in a while. When you really your phones already under twenty eighty percent to charge it to at least like eighty percent pretty quickly so fast charging definitely has a use and it would be nice if it came in the box yeah I love it with the with thirty watt anchor charger and then the US see to lightning especially if I if I checked into a hotel or something I just I need to give me as much charges as I can get in ten minutes before I have to leave it's great for that. The thing that that I'm intrigued by this rumor of wireless reverse charging where you can theoretically charge your air pods off of the back of new iphone yeah whether it's Chile or or Kyw plus apple magic like will there be other things that that you can also put on the back of your phone that would charge like. Could you bum charge off someone. Someone else's phone your phone. Well the Samsung ones that have this similar feature conceptually the same feature definitely let you charge another phone because they even even advertise it as like a you know like they're they're. TV ADS show people like you know guy meets girl on a coffee shop and and introduces himself by letting her charge your phone on his phone from what I've heard. I don't think apple's is going to do that. I I wouldn't be surprised if it's air pods only and I don't think I don't think they could do the watch because the watch needs like the magnetic connection whereas air podgy could just put side by side but who knows house. Maybe they will. I don't know I mean the watch ever get the watch ever ship with whatever it needed to charge off of the Power Matt was was that thing called the air pat airpower airpower. I supposedly airpower was just going to work with all existing watches. I remember when when it was still a product act I remember asking and it wasn't going to be like Oh. You only work with the new watch. It supposedly would work with any watch so maybe that would work. I don't know although the watch my my. I promise never watch run out of battery. It's the it's only the phone really so yeah same with Airports Really I. I can't remember the last time I even heard a bloop bloop that little sad sound now especially the new ones yeah so I don't know to me. It's a neat feature but it's not a big feature. I'll tell you one day I'm looking forward to on the new phone supposedly and again you know it doesn't it's only like words that have leaked. It's nobody seems to have pictures yet. I mean who knows the last weekend. End Is always it's always dangerous recording on a Friday before the event and its suppose like I want to get it out so people travel and stuff like that and listen to it but it's always surprising rising what might leak on Sunday but one of the things people have said sources of said is that the the glass back of the new phones might have a matte finish at least in certain in colors. That would be very appealing to me. I my my least favorite thing about these phones over the last three years really because I believe in include the jet black iphone eight that I that I carried per year is the way that you can't tell which side is which by touch on a recent episode of the show. My one regret over the years of buying iphones is that I didn't get the Matt Black iphone eight instead of the jet black because I think I would have. I think I liked the aesthetic better overall in the long term. I think I was just infatuated by the glossy jet black at first darth vader ish sort of finish but I just really disliked the way that when you're and I can tell you know I I always try to put the phone in my pocket the same way glass facing my thigh as opposed to screen out just in case something you know hits me in the Thia. Hopefully will crack the back not the front but you know every once in a while you your phone is flipped around or it's on the on the table or something like that. I don't know it's just to me. It's just generally and it also to me makes it more slippery. I would presume that a matt glass finished for the back would would be have a little bit. You know literally have more texture so I hope that's true on on the lightning versus. USB Front before we move on the other thing that I just I cannot emphasize enough is among our crowd people who listen to this show people who read the site people who people who really know understand the difference like know what USB is they they want USB on the iphone because they really are and I see it I get it. They're unanswered with the idea that they could carry fewer cables around. Wouldn't it'd be neat if you could just you could even if you you travel with an IPAD and an iphone and Mac book. If all you needed were USB Z. Cables and maybe you could just use the same charger. Just charge your phone overnight then. Leave your ipad pro plugged in in your hotel room during the day and plug the macbook in when you need it you that's great. I see the appeal of that right. That would really simplify the world in a in a way that you could just have it and maybe you're a nerd and you carry you. Try Out android phones throughout the year to you know the more devices you use the more that appeals to you as inert but normal people hated aided when apple switched from the thirty pin to lightning they hated hated. It and everybody chalked it up to everybody in the normal. Oh world chalked it up to apple did this to get everybody to buy thirty dollar lightning cables that they it was a money grab and if they switched which two USB even though in the nerd world they would say they would they would praise apple for switching to the industry standard the hundreds of millions of regular iphone users out there who don't already have lightning cables around our house and everywhere where they need for their phone would see as a money grab that apple's trying to get even though you we know you can buy USB cables from anywhere anybody they would chop this. It's up to you know they would complain about it. I can't tell you how many people in my family bitch to me when apple switched to lightning and I would say don't you see how much more elegant what is that thirty pin cable was gross and ugly. It was so bad but they didn't see it that way. All they saw was that the cables they already owned in the stands they already had or whatever didn't work with our new phone and they had to throw him out or like people who like It's like a married couple where somebody gets the new iphone one year and the other spouse has the old iphone now they need to cables people hate uh-huh. I cannot at the number of people who would hate hate a change to USC on a new iphone vastly Ashley. I would say ten times outweighs the number of people who would who would be happy about it and I realized that there's people nerd who are listening to me. You say this and they're they're. They're getting angry at me 'cause they. Don't believe it but I'm telling you in the real world. It's true yeah. Change is hard man. Although I did pick up one of those thirty pin courts towards this week and glad we're not using those right now. It's it's SORTA ludicrous looking when you really think about it. It's really they really were. I mean it was it seemed like a breakthrough at the time but yeah the time compared to a scuzzy pen or something like that but but there and they were like sharp.

But now, I think its they any bottle that gets below a shot like the drag of any anybody could be vodka whiskey colusa, better Grenadine, whatever they just marry into opaque bottles. So you have no idea what's in there. And they also have bacon MARTINI, which is just bacon fat floating vodka, which I think breaks five laws like like from the a couple of those. If you had the big MARTINI there. I think if you do an asks you shot, a bacon MARTINI and either slim, Jim you get a free t shirt. What a deal, but if you you have just one for losing, right? Sure says like it's it's the t-shirt definitely doesn't get you anything I want. I want to people who know what the t-shirt represents something. "O K is of Omori show continues now with Brian Sussman. One of the things we've been doing this morning, and it started I'll backup and get you to where we got to the program. We were talking initially about a tweet that Trump had retweeted yesterday. Statistic that shares a fact. Illegal alien in this country can sign up for various programs and through federal assistance. Not state assistance, federal assistance can actually get three hundred three thousand five hundred dollars a month. In free stuff three thousand five hundred the average social security check in this country's twelve hundred. And so that got us into a conversation saying, okay, what's wrong with this picture? This is a sustainable, and it's quite frankly, not fair. And we got to talking about that. And then that led us into another direction where we started talking about all of these problems. We have in San Francisco with the homeless, many of whom are addicted to alcohol or drugs, and how whatever we're trying to do here in San Francisco and other parts of the bay area is definitely not working. In fact, we may actually be enabling these people boy than anything else. So that got us into a the next part of the discussion, which was we love to hear the stories of people who were drug addicted and have been set free because that's what we wish for all those in San Francisco who are on these streets. Absolutely. We're we're tolerating this tolerating this behavior. And I believe the approach needs to be tough love. So I mentioned that because I've got my another chance podcast that I'm just beginning to unveil a Brian Sussman dot com and the next podcast, which is gonna probably be posted in the next day or two has to do with a friend of mine who was severely addicted to heroin, and he only got cleaned once everybody everybody just said, that's it. We're not helping you anymore weird out, helping you. That's it. We're done. We're at once. He was finally met with that reality that there was no one there. He actually went into a legitimate rehab program. But only after that legitimate rehab program told him now, you're not stay with us. And he became so outraged. He went back and said, please I'm addicted to heroin I want to get clean, and that's when they took him in. And he realized later that there are a lot of people that take advantage of these programs. You know, they they come in. They just want a night out of the cold. They come in. They wanted to just get off drugs for a week or two. They don't want to get cleaned permanently. So I said I want the stories of people who are clean like for good. That's it you're done. I'm not going back to that pig drop ever ever ever again. So we've been hearing from you and Daniel is the most recent caller from Sunnyvale Daniel, thanks for being with us. And thanks for listening to if. Oh, so I asked this question. What was your drug of choice for starters? Good morning guys. Just my drug of choice. What's actually, it was recreational? It started off recreational with weed smoking weed a little bit of cocaine here. Then you start to drop a little bit at the next thing. You know, you're. Cain and five years later. I was a pretty heavy duty meth addict for eight years fifteen. Yeah. Stuck on Matt glass pipe everything. All I mean, what what was nothing. Nice. It it it. It got to the point where I had a house. I had a rental condo had a business. A lot of you know, the mechanic. All the prophets slops, two houses, the condo. You know on the cars that I had up on the street. So so you went from a successful guy, materially speaking, you had your you had your house you had a rental unit. You had the cars you had you had all this cash that you had invested into these various things and you wind up on the street Daniel. Yes. Wow. Man. So I'm curious how did family treat your during this period of time? Well, you know, a drug addict is is we're pretty good actors. We were able to pull the wool over your eyes. Pretty pretty well initially people love, you people like you, you're you're you're friendly. And then you just start to take advantage of that. And after a while people see through that. And my sister was was one that. She would take my calls. You know, she lives on the east coast, and I call her up and just let her know. Hey, you know, it needs the money. Can you help me out? I'm just a little short right now. Boom. She would wire me money right out. And her husband saw the trend. He had alcoholics in his in his life and his family just saw saw right through. Had suspicions there initially. But then fell right through after a little while and said, we're not taking any more calls for them. Yeah. How long were you on the streets as an addict? On the streets. I. I probably would have been out on the streets a lot longer. But I was probably out of speaks for about nine bucks. But you know, I mean, you you're doing all the wrong. I I was doing the wrong thing and. The big tough love from the police after they thought how wrong I would doing out there. So what was the wakeup call for you? What was the where was it? What was the low? You know, where did you finally just say, I can't take it anymore? Well, you know. I've always been pretty resilient all my life and pretty pretty heavy duty person in being able to deny living in denial. I I got arrested. There was a grand theft charge on me. I told the judge that I was a drug addict he sent me up to a program the Salvation Army up. Sacrimento? I couldn't make it through that. Because I was still doing all the wrong things that kicked out and had to go before the judge again, and he pretty much laid it out to me. You got quitting time hanging over your head for this grand theft. And if you decide you don't wanna make it through this program. I'll see you again, and we have a room waiting for you at the at the big house. That was that was that was pretty tough to swallow. You know, I mean, I thought it was a tough guy. I could do this this time hanging over my head. But what an idiot to think that way, right? Exactly. But you're at that time, you're so fogged. I mean that that probably made sense at the time it did you figure you have a short time to to do in in the big house, and you figure, you know, I'll just I'll do that. And then when they get out I'm free and clear, but yet you didn't get the help you need it. You know? So Daniel when you see all of these all of these homeless, people, many of whom are addicted to, alcohol, drugs, etc. In the bay area. What we're doing seems to not be doing any good in San Francisco, but your thoughts are what you're seeing in the way these municipalities are handling the homeless and the drug issues. Well, you're caller prior to me with was talking about you know, how drug addicts love hand out. And that is so true. If you continue to hand out if them freebies, give them off three needles a place to shoot up. Oh, let me watch over you to make sure you don't get you don't you don't know d. And if we do we have emergency crews waiting on hand. I mean, why wouldn't you want to continue to do dope? You know? I mean, I I just I don't understand what the motivation would be to get off of it. Right. Right. So if if if you're continuing to give handouts to to people that are dug addicts they're going to continue to take it. I mean, why not they don't have to do anything for it. Man. I think it's totally wrong. I think it's the biggest mistake that could possibly make it to continue to give a drug addict a person with addiction. Freebies. So they don't have to do anything for themselves. And yet those who are making the decisions to give out these freebies, and the agencies that are also involved in almost seems as if they're doing this to feel good about themselves. Yeah. I think that's part of it. I think the other part of it is we just created another market for people to get paid off the taxpayer dollar. Are you take care of you know, other people that should be given the tough love, man. So you were addicted for some fifteen years how long have you been sober? Those are drug addiction for pretty much twenty years as soon as I started doing drugs and drinking. I saw that it was an addiction. Got clean and February second I will have nineteen years clean. How nice. Yeah. Nice. That's all I do have a question for you. Because I had a friend who I think he just got his tenure clean, Mark. But when he first came out of recovery, he said one of the biggest problems he had were his his old drug addict, friends and his old drug addicts almost trying to pressure him to get back into that lifestyle. Even though he had just gotten cleaned. Did you go through that at all? Yes. And the funny thing. The court set me down to San Jose to the Salvation Army. I came from Fairfield inn Fairfield is a small town. So I still had to go up there for court date and some probation appointments. And I would run into all drug friends in the parking lot. They're sitting there tweaking out on on that and wanting to hit me up. Danny you want you want to do. Don't you see that? I I'm coming here to the probation office. And I've gained about twenty thirty pounds. At any anymore. You just amazing. You just went through this massive project process of getting clean. And then here your old buddies, dangling it in front of your face, exactly. Actually scared to go back to Jack up for a long time. Yeah..

And my sister was was one that she would take my calls. You know, she lives on the east coast, and I call her up and just let her know. Hey, you know, it needs the money. Can you can you help me out? I'm just a little short right now. And boom, she would wire me money right out. And her husband saw the trend. He had alcoholics and his in his life and his family and just saw Saul right through. Had suspicions there initially. But it's right through after a little while and said, we're not taking any more calls for them. How long were you on the streets as an addict? On the streets. I. Probably would have been out on the streets a lot longer, but I was probably out of the speech for about nine. But you know, I mean, you're doing all the wrong. I was doing the wrong thing and. Got the big tough love from the police after they thought out wrong. I was doing out there. So what was the wakeup call for you? What was the where was it? What was the low? You know, where did you finally just say, I can't take it anymore? Well, you know. I always did pretty resilient all my life and pretty pretty heavy duty person in being able to deny living in denial. I I got arrested. There was a a grand theft charge on me. I told the judge that I was a drug addict he sent me up to a program to Salvation Army up. Sacrimento? I couldn't make it through that. Because I was still doing all the wrong things got kicked out and had to go before the judge again, and he got pretty much laid it out to me you got fan Clinton time hanging over your head for this grand theft. And if you decide you don't wanna make it through this program. I'll see you again, and we have a room waiting for you at the at the big out. And that was that was that was pretty tough to swallow. You know, I mean, I thought it was a tough guy. I could do this this time hanging over my head. But what an idiot to think that way, right, right? Right. Exactly. But you're at that time, you're so fogged. I mean that that probably made sense at the time. Did you figure you have a short time to to do in the big house, and you figure, you know, I'll just I'll do that. And then once they get out I'm free and clear, but you didn't get the help you need it. You know? So Daniel when you see all of these all of these homeless, people, many of whom are addicted to, alcohol, drugs, etc. In the bay area. What we're doing seems to not be doing any good in San Francisco, but your thoughts on what you're seeing in the way these municipalities are handling the homeless and the drug issues. Well. Caller prior to me was was talking about, you know, how drug addicts love hand handout, and that is so true. If you continue to hand out give them freebies. Give them off three needles a place to shoot up. Oh, let me watch over you to make sure you don't get you. Don't you don't know D. And if you do we have emergency crews waiting on hand, I mean, why wouldn't you want to continue to do dope? You know? I mean, I I just I don't understand what the motivation would be to get off of it. Right. Right. So if you're continuing to give handouts to people that are drug addicts they're going to continue to take it. I mean, why not they don't have to do anything for it. Man. I think it's totally wrong. I think it's the biggest mistake that could possibly make you continue to give a drug addict a person with addiction. Freebies. So that they don't have to do anything for themselves. And yet those who are making the decisions to give out these free wheat freebies and the agencies that are also involved. It almost seems as if they're doing this to feel good about themselves. Yeah. I I think that's part of it. I think the other part of it is we just created another market for people to get paid off of the tax payers dollars. Are you take care of you know, other people that should be given the tough love, man. So you were addicted for some fifteen years how long have you been sober? There was a drug addiction for pretty much twenty years soon as I started doing drugs and drinking. I saw that it was an addiction. Got clean and February second I will have nineteen years clean. Wow. Nice. Yeah. Nicely done. That's all your. I do have a question for you. Because I had a friend who I think he just got his tenure clean, Mark. But when he first came out of recovery, he said one of the biggest problems he had were his old drug addict, friends and is all drug addicts almost trying to pressure him to get back into that lifestyle. Even though he had just gotten clean. Did you go through that at all? Yes. And the funny thing. The court set me down to San Jose to the Salvation Army. I came from Fairfield inn Fairfield is a small town. So I still had to go up there for court dates and some probation appointment, and I would run into old drug friends in the parking lot. They're sitting there tweaking out on on and wanting to hit me up. Danny you want you want to do some. Don't you see that? I've I'm coming here to the probation office. And I've gained about twenty thirty pounds. At any more. You just went amazing. You just went through this massive project process of getting clean. And then here your old buddies, dangling it in front of your face, exactly. Actually scared to go back to their fields for a long time. Yeah. Berlow listen, you're making all the right moves, and we can only hope and pray that it continues and day. You'll thanks for checking in sharing your story. You're welcome. I'm hanging up on myself. All right. Seven sixteen eighty green taking a look at your roadways.

"Don't care that it only has four. I just don't everyone that's like always for us ramp shut up. Just shut up. It's it's faster ram. It's LP d. d. r. for extra something. And so it's lower power and faster, whatever. Not a problem though, like I haven't had stuff force close on me. I'm sure that if you wanted to you, could you could do it, but I think that's a, that's a nothing burger of drama. Nothing burger of a gate. There is a gate that other people said as nothingburger that I think is an actual problem with this phone, which is it scratches really easily and anybody who says otherwise is pulling themselves. And Dan counts me during the period and said, hey, put this funnier pocket, and I put my phone, which is the white one in my pocket with my keys, just like shook my pocket with my hand like very lightly. And then I pulled it out and was scratched in a way that does not come out like immediately without question scratched, which I keep my phone's in cases. Now I've just become a case person, so kind of doesn't bother me. But yeah, I mean, it's it's crashes instantly. Yeah. So you can. Can Mark it up really easily. So if you like lightly, drag a key across it, you'll see a Mark that is like, oh my God, terrifying, but it will wipe off but anything harder than that or any any more pressure than that, like the Matt glass on the back. They did this Matt finish. It totally does scratch. In fact, I kind of think the glossy part of that also is a little bit scratch prone. So I have for a wedding ring a tungsten carbide ring, which is the hardest note metal that you can get on a wedding ring, eight dollars from Amazon. There's probably harder metals, but it's an eight dollar Amazon wedding ring, which is great because when I lose it, I could just buy another one and nobody will know. And I just like super lightly, pulled it across the back of both the glossy part and the Matt finish and that scratched it now that's not fair because tungsten carbide is definitely harder than gorilla glass. Five. However, I did the same thing on the back of it iphone tennis and it did not do a thing. Same pressure, same, whatever. So, yes. Sorry, like get a case. Yeah. I mean, I it comes to being thing. Yeah. Well, so here's a funny thing. I ended up choosing the pixel three instead of the pixel three XL not because of the notch, but because I knew I'd want to definitely put a case on this phone and I would rather have a case on a small phone than a case on a big phone. Yeah, that's interesting because I only have a little one and I desperately wanted switch and try the big one for a while. Now the alternate way to do this is you just screw you take it out of the box. You take your keys, you put a nice, big scratch on the back and then you know stress about, yeah. Sorry, scratched. I'm not like the paint is chipping off my iphone seven. Like I'm going to have a phone for a while. I've never successfully resold the phone. Subs is gonna. I'm just gonna live with. If you are a phone reselling company like to buy ads in the verse cast, this would be mentioned some of you, but I will not. At this time they exist though. That's not how that would work at all, but think about it. Anyway, Paul, you asked about the scratching I asked about performance indeed, are. Somehow segment that into. Well, this is not that much to say about it like performs really well. So Paul, you asked about performance by read on it in staying fast. My read on it is iphones have so much headroom the you never actually used their performance until the way end of the life cycle..

"So let me let me just walk you through the last like three seconds of my life. So I'm like halfway through this beer and I said, two hundred gigabyte and then part of my brain went wait. Are there microscopic cards that are actually two hundred fifty six gigs? 'cause I doubt it myself second. And then I was gonna say hundred, six megabytes then I was like, wait a second. No, that's not right either. And this like the ten year old in me, just his mind exploded at the fact that you can buy a two hundred six gigabyte microscopic card. I just want to put that out there because that's amazing. In so so yeah, I think it's a pretty good preorder deal. And I don't know if anybody's going to be disappointed with this phone because damn those cameras. But Andrew, tell us about this Verizon exclusive Moroccan blue finish thing because that makes me more excited than the phone itself. So this is the evolution of those the the Matt glass versions of the g seven, it's, but it's nicer and it looks. It just looks better. So all of the as far as I know, all of the review devices of the v forty were Aurora black, which is your typical kind of color change e little bit black, but with a gloss finish on it, fingerprint to the moon back and the Moroccan blue one on top of being kind of blue turquoise teal, green color shifting thing, has this etched glass back on it? That's a matte finish. One downside makes the phone released slippery because part of what those fingerprint you know the fingerprints do is they helped make the phone kind of tacky with the glass in you can actually hold it fine tradeoff in my opinion because the Moroccan blue is beautiful. It doesn't get. Smudged up by your fingerprints, and I think it has a little bit of grip to it. Maybe you'll have some troubles, but this is a phone. It's exclusive Reisen with no stated end date to that. So that's a that is the one. I mean, it's crazy that it comes down to this, but this is the one complaint with LG's launch of the before. It's like a serious shrug emoji right there. Yeah, I take back everything. Nice. I said. All right. Let's talk a little bit about the w seven. This is a smart watch that the company announced and Russell's while Russell's stupid. Watch the name. This podcast episode. All right. So this this is a aware west. Watch that comes with physical hands in front of or behind, rather a full touch rounded. Oleg display running. Wairoa s. two point one so costs four hundred fifty dollars. Goodbye. Like this delay thing, I could have imagined LG the nounce and yet part of me is like kinda want it, but I don't know. Why can you explain that? Andrew. I cannot explain why you want it, but I can explain the watch. It's a, it's a tech achievement. The fact that they have this separated LCD situation where it's a non touch LCD with the hole in the middle that has hands going around it like a mechanical watch. And then they have the touch layer up against the crystal on the top. The glass on the top is technologically very cool. The the function of the thing. The fact that the trade off for this is no GPS, no NFC, no heart rate. No optional l. t. e. it's just a watch and the fact that the watch hands are now in the way of you using the screen, but but no is. No, no, no, because they do jumping jacks, yes. So you push the side button that's at the three o'clock position. You press and hold it, and it moves the hands out of the way best they can for what's on the screen. So if it's like a notification for a message, it'll put them to three and nine o'clock so that you can read above and below the hands, or if you're trying to look at a something with more of a dial interface, it'll move them both to high noon and get it out of the way. Can you still have this limitation of the physical hands there? But I understand that what l. is trying to address years that some people don't need a smartwatch, that's like a galaxy watch. That's trying to be there for your fitness GPS via runs and continuous heart rate and swim proof. And it does plays YouTube videos. And let's type..

"I look, I remember seeing the marshmallows study on like sixty minutes or something when I was a kid. And I think one thing that they both speak to the hype that we create around them that like media machinery and Beuys these findings with maybe more significant. Than they deserve, especially Matt glasses heartaches on single studies. But we, we kind of build this hype around them and and yet not definitely not always deserve. Well, this is hold change the entire way you report studies or your reporting is completely influenced by a lot of these changes going on science with a lot of these recognition of your very ethical. How do we do responsible? But actually it was reporting on evidence based medicine movement was kind of a a wake-up call to realize like when we do these single study reports in health, like, you know, you can find studies that say, watermelons caused cancer. They prevent cancer. Avocados are like the elixir for a long life. I heard it's a SuperFood to SuperFood. They're also. So yeah, I have vox started this series called show me the evidence which was kind of trying to take a more systematic approach to looking at research evidence, and instead of relying on single studies trying to look for systematic reviews, which are, I'm sure every member of the weeds audience will. No, they're collections of studies on a certain question that come to more fully supported conclusions and the studies are weighted by their rigor. We've been trying to do that at vox and didn't direct response to that problem of, you know, if you look at like the New York Times archive on like vitamin, you'll see vitamin e, you know, prevents this and it causes that and maybe you should take more take less. And that's the result of reporting on single studies. I mean. The area where like I have come to appreciate some of the virtues of like partisan politics and people having their heels dug in like uncertain issues, right. Like like a minimum wage back jobs, employment, like precisely because such a hot button, political controversy. Every time there's a new study dislike another counter study, and there's like lots and lots and lots of work on this. And like I think has a fair minded person. It's a little bit hard to know like what the truth is, but you can rest assured that it's not like a unexplored topic or like one guy came up with a single clever experiments sometime, and then we all just ran with it because it sounded cool. But like one of the issues with the power poses right is it's like there's no one invested in like anti power poles. Right? So it's like one thing comes up. It generates a couple like hi-p journalism stories. It catches some people's fancy plays to like certain. Kind of prejudices. Right? We would all love it to be the case that there was like an answer as. Right? And like it's not naturally anybody's incentive to be like, no, like I'm fanatically committed to like slouch e body posture, and I'm gonna like, throw all my work at it the way there is more politically contested type issues. Right? And it's like you really have this in health right words like every food group has its own like lobby, right? That's like find me some reason why this thing is awesome. Nutrition research is notorious for this and also research into drugs where you have. Yeah, big incentive structures from the drug companies are from the blueberry council like this is why do you remember when we're probably all teenagers like blueberries became a SuperFood, it was because blueberry sales were flagging. The blueberry think it's called the blueberry council. They started to invest in anti-oxident research and get out this idea in especially in the media by producing these studies that if you eat blueberries. No, you have more exposure to oxidants and therefore you're gonna live longer and better health outcomes. I'm very committed. This is true. I wouldn't. I don't know what he anti-oxidants are, but I'm, you can only stop you. Oxygen away, right? Couldn't find you can find like the tree nut council and the walnut council. Towel paper towel favorite the paper towels versus hand-driers. Wait. What is what people tell has been investing in research to show that hand-driers disseminate a lot of bacteria when you use them. So the the automatic hand-driers of their blow hot hot air. Yeah. And this is a little separate than some of the replication issues that we've been talking about..

"We have a duty to keep those job so up with the one thing i think we ought to keep in mind that in terms of the political ramifications of the shutdown is that everything has a shelf life of about three days so we'll be so you wouldn't parkanova exactly bye bye next month at albeit a seemed like it was years ago yeah and i think a chuck schumer to get into this knife and there was a big dynamic change when mitch mcconnell announced that he was going to move the date which was a concession by macau to move the date up a week from the 16 to the eighth lindsey graham immediately announced that that would be okay with him and he would vote for this and what that meant was the chuck schumer was facing the possibility in fact the the absolute fact that all of the republicans who supported the schumer side of this were going to to immediately defect to the republican side and then david you would have nothing but a democratic partisan vote alone to take full responsibility for shutting down the government that's right matt glass been a political scientist had a nice line he said dhaka unites the democrats that's the dreamers unites the democrats and devise the republicans a shutdown unites the republicans and divide the democrats so if you are out there and you were horrified by the possibility that these young dreamers are going to be deported what you should be rooting for is that the dreamers issue is kept separate from the shutdown issue because if it's connected i don't think it's going to get solved david lee at art thank you very much for.
