So my final thoughts on Russell Wilson, the story today was he wanted Pete Carroll fired his Vince McMahon style that he go, I want him. Remember, look, this is a very he said she said, thing. And we live in a culture society that loves gossip and boss up and if it bleeds it leads. It doesn't need to be true. It's good gossip. Yeah, it's proven that, hey, we love to talk about Russell Wilson. His camp his team himself is completely denying the fact that he wanted P Carl fired. Is that what you? Is that what you went in high school? Russell Wilson camp? No, I want the young people stay here. Remember that? Here's the deal. Russ is saying. Russ is saying, yo, I didn't want him fired. I got nothing but respect. He was a father figure. I love Pete Carroll. Irregardless. Which is not a word, but regardless of all this, I think what rust needs. I have the solution to all of us when we can move on. He needs a good documentary. Every time falling in love with an octopus, that was a great documentary. My Octopus Teacher. Maybe not about an octopus. I missed that one. Oh, really? One of the Academy Award, some dude fell in love with an octopus. And they got it on. They didn't get it off. That's what I think happened. But that's a true story. I got it on with an octopus. It was a great documentary is my point. How many tentacles? 8. Osteoporosis. He needs some good PR is what you're saying. So I'm a Tom Brady fan. I know Joel's a big TV 12 fan. But for people that were on the fence, Joel, I hope if you tell me you haven't seen it, I'm going to be so sad because you're a Tom fan. The man in the arena? Yes. The Tom Brady documentary. Fantastic. If you didn't like him, watch that and you'll love him. You watch Joe cool under pressure. The Joe Montana documentary on peacock. You watch that? Joe Montana is the greatest guy. Fantastic. You watch the last dance. If you're not already convinced that Jordan's the goat. You'll love Michael Jordan. You watch a documentary about someone where they're involved in the process of making it. If someone made a Russell Wilson documentary. I don't think you're going to like what you see. No, I think they'll craft it to make you love that person. He just needs a good Netflix or documentary. Why did you leave the captain the Derek Jeter documentary out of it? I haven't watched it to be honest. I'll watch it before the season. There's that new series or documentary docuseries, I guess it is about the three quarterbacks. Marcus Mariota and Patrick Mahomes, co produced by mahomes new production company. Which means it's going to be very pro mahomes. He's going to have a hand in it. I mean, obviously we'll be pro mahomes because it's about the 2022 season. Manning's behind it as well. His production company. It seems like they just create these production companies. They could turn around and do stuff about themselves. They'll do a hard knocks about a team you don't give a diddly do about, but you're like, maybe I do sort of like the falcons are culture. It's sort of nice to watch them. Mike, other than my team, they seem like a bunch of nice guys. It's all good positive PR. That's what rusty. Hey, if you need something to watch later, Jeremy Lin has a new one out. Relatively new one out. It's like a 30 minute documentary and it's fantastic. Same type of at the same timeline as this crew. 30 minutes. It's about a minute to minute comparison of insanity. Real time. It's fantastic. I'm just saying I'm throwing it out there. I still believe in insanity. It was a great moment. Yeah, 30 minutes long. But all these things. All these things are great, cavina. These PR moments. You still live it on couches. Help people. You remember the Jeremy Lin lived on a couch and then he was playing for the new one with raptors. He has a ring and he's the man. It doesn't matter. He's got one you don't. Uh oh. He got one, you don't? You can't take that away from somebody. He got to that point. He had his moment. I believe in that moment. Danny G anyway. But my point is, it was a great documentary and you could watch documentary about nonsense. An octopus, like I said. If it's good, you learn a little something you feel good about. Hear what the Russell documentary would be. What is it going to feature? The one year. It's going to glorify them. Just understood the narrative. Nerdy dude, but premier athlete, right? Baseball could have played baseball or football, went football, was a lower draft pick, but then he fought for the start in the NFL beat out Matt Flynn. Seattle made the tough decision to go with The Rookie. He won a Super Bowl, and then the heartbreak of not running the ball at the goal line in the Super Bowl. And then the heartache of go through a divorce from his high school sweetheart, but then meeting Sierra. They could package this to make you love the dude. Why not do it? "They trade a 22 fourth for 5th to give up Shelby Harris, who was good in that Monday night game. Noah fan drew lock. And then they gave Russell Wilson the 5 year 161 $1 million guaranteed deal to new ownership. There's a little new owners syndrome in there. But this was the classic, this guy was so great in the mid 2010s. He was off the last couple of years. Well, we can excuse that all these different ways. Monday night, he looked like the same guy he looked like the last couple of years. He's not the same athlete. There's a couple times when I felt like I wasn't running around. He just didn't. He missed some throws. Like the one played a Judy where he underthrew him to the point that it was an easy touchdown and it turned into like a hard one. I just wasn't impressed that I thought it was pretty telling. I know it's been discussed for 5 days, but or four days, but his coach was like, it's fourth and 5. You just gave this guy a 160 1 million guaranteed. And you're trying to 64 yard field goal and you're actually like setting it up to kick a 64. What are the odds that what did you think the odds were that that was going? I would have put out like 15 very little. I think the stat I read was like two out of 42 times has a kicker made a 64 yarder or more in the last ten years. And then fourth and 5 exactly. It's like 45%. So the odds itself, even if you're just looking at it in a vacuum, made no sense. I've spoken to Broncos people and it's like, and this sounds crazy. If it was an 8 yard gain from javonte on third down and it wasn't a 9 yard gain and if it was to the 47 and not the 46, they would have gone for it, but Brandon McManus told them on the sideline I'm not blaming mcvan as he's like get it to the 46th on the left hash, I can hit that. I will hit that 46. Of course he's gonna say that. He wants The Rock, but the other thing is this bill like they iced him and he was way off. When they iced you and you get that free kick, does the coaching staff not think like, all right, that was no good. No, they were like, trot them back out there. Let them try it again. It was abominable by Hackett. The two, the two moment, it's funny, 'cause Dave ball was the other way with the Giants where he was just like, we're fucking going for it. And he was like, fuck it, we're on the road. Let's go. And then you have Arthur Smith, who's on the 42 in New Orleans up to chance to put away fourth and one. You're going nowhere anyway. You're not a playoff team. This is a game that you ran that first down. New Orleans frontline wasn't even good in that game. Yeah. Yeah. And instead they punt it and it backfires and they lose. And then this one, you got your new QB. You just gave them all that money. Do you believe in them or not? And if you get a fourth and 5 and a Seattle, if you're playing against Detroit in week 13, fine. You're in Seattle. Like imagine that locker room, you come back and you convert that because Russell got it. Or if you don't, you hold your head up high and you say, all right, well, I was putting the ball and Russ's hands. You have no questions to answer. No one's going to question you. The truth of the matter is, Bill, they fumbled twice on the one yard line. They had 12 penalties. They were 6 points. Despite being in the red zone four times, there's a lot of reasons they lost that game. They put up over 400 yards. I don't think Russ looked terrible, but I hear you on your point of like, everyone's response being like, wow, they just got Russell Wilson thinking this is 2016 Russell Wilson. I was like, as you're talking, I'm racking my brain. There's been a few of them. I'm making like Albert Pujols getting the giant deal from like the angels, right? Yeah, I was thinking MBA. It's almost like those NBA trades where you get the NBA star who's like 32. Right, like a loser. It's like, hey, you see? I'm trading Chris Webber for Mitch Richmond. Yes, but what version of Mitch Richmond am I getting, right? That's a good example. Yeah, Mitch Richmond. I would be really concerned if I was a Broncos fan. Really? I feel like I feel like you wash that game away. That was week one and a weird environment with crazy shit happening. And you say, okay, week two, we gotta use it. I get it, but if rust was still that guy, that's like a Kaiser soze. I'm burning down the house game. And he just didn't look like that. I didn't think he to me, he looked exactly like you looked at last year, maybe it'll flip. I don't know, but I'm worried anyway, all the stuff they gave up and they guaranteed contract. And I'm not positive. He's a sure thing. So there's a little new owner syndrome. So that's two mistakes. Third one, the home run swing mistake. We don't have to litigate the Lance trade again. But they gave up the 13th pick in 21. First, in 22 and 23, and a third and 22, for a guy that I have no idea if he's good. I mean, I'm going to give him benefit of the doubt for how bad the weather was and all that stuff, but at the same time. Maybe. I mean, the other guy maybe. Right, the other guy did at the end. I don't think either guy was that great in the game, but I don't know. All of this, there's so many red flags. The fact that they kept Jimmy G, the fact that okay, what's the bigger mistake though? What's the bigger mistake? The trade itself, which is whatever, or the doubling down and without him winning the job saying, he's our guy, no matter what, even though Jimmy just took you to the, because we've been down that road. I mean, this is like heath schuler's the pick by the Redskins, and no matter what, they're starting him, even though Gus fort outplayed him every single time. And the opposite of this would be like, Brady, getting The Rock from Belichick and being like, I don't care about where you were drafted and what we're paying Bledsoe. You give the ball to the guy and the niners just gifted Trey and look, Trey might be the better quarterback. It was still very early, but for him to get it out of the gates and it to be a no brainer, even though Jimmy's still under contract at the time for 25 million and just took him to NFC championship game was a wild decision. That might be the mistake. Maybe you let Trey win that job or you go to Trey, but to say in February, Trey Lance is our guy. It's RG three and cousins or the opposite being Russell Wilson and Matt Flynn. Like Russell Wilson won that job and was a third round pick and Pete had the confidence to say, gosh, I got to give it to the best man. Trey Lance kind of given this job and I'm curious to see how much never works in football. It doesn't. It just does the team knows. Yeah, we were still on van and I were texting about Bryce young the other day during that game that I will be able to ask. Well, I was like, he reminds me of all the things I don't like about Kyler and Marcelo during the game was saying, the guys got incredible

"With your initial take there because I thought the biggest disappointment for this team as he sort of collapsed down the stretch was how poorly the defense blade, which is their young and they're fast and they looked really good early in the year and then they just didn't look so good late in the year. Yeah, and I think that could still be the case. I think that there's a reason that Matt rule keeps pouring first round draft picks on the defensive side of the ball are kept pouring first round draft picks on the defensive side of the ball into that team. I think it was obvious where some of their weaknesses and their holes were. If I were to rate this team as a quarterback mess on a scale of like, well, I don't know, there's a lot of messes that happen in my house. I have two little kids. Let's say the two year old knocked over is cup of water, which would be like a one scale mess or like someone fed the dog a bunch of orange rinds and he threw up all over all over the carpet. That's like a ten. I'd say it's gonna be like a 6. 6.5. It's like some spit up. Yeah, yeah. Something food related has gotten onto the rug. Or spit up on, you know what used to be the worst, and I don't know if you had the same take where as a young parent. They were very few times that you had clothes on that you picked out, like mostly it was just like whatever was around and you just threw it on because you're so tired. But then once in a while, you'd put on one of your favorite sweatshirts and then they'd just yak all over it. That's one of those. So it's probably right around there, like a 6. 6 and a half. Okay. Well yeah, that was the trick you had to, that was back when I went into an office and had to dress like a human every day to be seen by other people outside my family. And yeah, you had to like, I'd wear the undershirt around the house, and then it was time to leave the last thing I do is grab my actual shirt and put it on. And head to work. It's a solid idea. So if baker, you know, we're kind of finding potential landing spots. And it remains Carolina one, and Seattle is the other one. I will crack this door open for the Seahawks. I'm not a drew. I mean, no one's a jerk like believer. Drew lax immediate family, probably. And then I apologize if you're listening to the show. Your son has been very successful in his life. But if you are going to make a drew lock as a multiyear starter argument. It would be you go back to his rookie year, see what he did under rich scangarello. And now you are in Seattle with Shane waldron, who, you know, it's not, it's not the same guy, but it's loosely in the same family as a rich scan guerrilla offense. So you get to work in that a little bit more. And maybe there's something there. Maybe you unlock something. Again, I don't think he is more than a, if the season started today. And that's still their roster. I think he probably makes it through 2022, and then they find someone else for next year. But, you know, you might get more out of him than people expect. I think you could get more out of him than expected. I think there are some read the tea leaves reports, and I'm allowed to say that again. I haven't said that in how many times have you said interesting today. And none yet, which is interesting. You've said at least once, yeah. Okay, yeah. I'm not counting, but I heard it once. Nails on a chalkboard. Just kidding. So I'm allowed to say this now. Reading the tea leaves, there was a lot of John Schneider drew lock love at draft time, and I think that that was part of the reason he felt comfortable pulling the tradeoff. What's weird is that it seems like there's the report now that Geno Smith is the leader in camp. If drew lock doesn't clearly win this job by the second week of training camp, then I don't imagine this being a very successful venture moving forward. It's almost like when they brought Matt Flynn in and we thought that, okay, yeah, you're going to pay them all this money and he's going to be your starter for a long time and something else happens and life completely changes. But if drew lock can't win that job in the GM loves him the way that he did, I don't know, I think that's pretty that's a pretty tough situation. I'd be all for Gino Smith, get another shot here. They too. They just really, the one big bummer to me last year was, you know, geo played really well in relief of Russell Wilson in the Thursday night game when Russ broke his thumb against the rams. And I didn't expect them to go out there and be like, all right, Geno's gonna throw it 60 times a week now. That's not how they play anyway, but they really reigned him in. I mean, he was on a, he was on a very limited offense there, as far as what they were asking him to do. It was just, you know, flat out, here's some play action here's in RPO. Some of their RPOs were kind of neat, but that was it. I mean, they didn't really let him play quarterback. Yeah. I don't know. Seattle, it's a mess. It's a quarterback mess. I think it's probably probably the messiest. Yeah. Okay. I don't know. I would my take would be, and I don't think either guy is going to work out. My take would be, I would take drew lock over Sam darnold right now. I would trust him to reach a competent starting quarterback level more than I would trust darnold to get there. Okay, yeah. It is a real issue without him. Let's move on to some of the big NFL stuff. We still have to get to Kyle van noy and everything. But you know, we've got to jump to the next big story. And that, of course, is Russell Wilson being traded to Denver. Greg, your reaction to this deal and how does it affect the Patriots if it affects the Patriots? Yeah, I was a bit surprised that the Seahawks ended up moving Russ. I mean, I knew he wanted to move, but that they ultimately did it. I was a bit surprised and it's a big risk by Pete Carroll, who's not getting any younger and John Schneider, the GM out there. You know, not too long ago, they were in this sort of vast QB almost desert land where, you know, they signed Matt, they had to sign Matt Flynn for big money and drafted at some chump named Russell Wilson in the fourth round, and that was sort of where they were. And then all of a sudden they struck gold similar to the Patriots with Tom Brady struck gold on Wilson. And they were living the high life. And now, now for now, they're going backwards. I do think I wouldn't rule the Seahawks out on anything as far as cubies moving and things like that. Like a deshaun Watson, a Derek Carr who despite all the good things that Josh McDaniels and company are saying about car out in Vegas, they're always going to listen. They're always going to listen. They might have designs on something else at some point if something were to develop the other quarterbacks that are available out there. I think the Seahawks will be in. And so there's a lot of internal questions that I think they're going to have to answer just by virtue of the fact that their head coach is 71. And Pete Carroll looks great. He looks healthier than I do. And he could easily coach for another 20 years. I'm not saying he can't. But, you know, I just think that there's a lot of complicating factors here. I was going to say, if we're being just as blunt as we can, we're probably closer to the death than Pete Carroll is at this point. Even though we're 30, 35 years younger. Just the way it is. Teach me your way. Would you be open to I'm just throwing out a hypothetical that helped nothing at this point. But if you're Pete Carroll, is there any chance you're looking this and being like, oh, this is kind of like when we have Matt Flint quarterback, like, I could do this again. I can rebuild this thing. Yeah, it's going to be a rough year or two. But yeah, I'll hang around. NFC is bad. If they take a small plucky quarterback in the third round, I would say hell yeah. Like let's run it back, you know? Let's do this. Who's like the equivalent of like the weird Matt Flynn guy that they would sign to like an expensive contract and then all of a sudden it paid in the draft. You know what it'd be like it would be like trading trading for Tyler Huntley and then signing them to like a two year $40 million contract extension. That's good comp. I was gonna say 'cause I would also just trade for Tyler Huntley. Yes, that would also be cool. Tyler Huntley was good last year. I don't know how he'd look over an extended season. Now I'm in love with the idea. This analysis has gone completely off the rails. But no, I was looking at this list of free and by the way, this was supposed to be a free agency show, but we're going to push that back till the Monday show here. These are all kind of guys who are proven in some way, shape or form whereas Matt flyn was like, yeah, he was back up for the packers and then he had that 500 yard game and yeah, we should go get him. "If you're Andy Dalton, and you're the starter. But if the defense is slow and is in the head of the offense, like it has been the past couple of years, it's going to be a problem. It's all the pressure even more. So is going to be on the starting quarterback. Say, Let's let's recalibrate that line. Don't say if the defense is slow, tell me what is going to happen this year. Well, Andy Dalton be the starting quarterback for the whole year will be Justin Fields. And what's up with that? Maggie's future? No. I I think drafting Justin Fields by some time for Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace, two guys who I like very much and I respect very much, and I do think, although there's been a few stumbling blocks along the way here, they know what it takes to have a winning football team. Look, Matt now he didn't walk into a Mike Glennon midst Robiskie situation. I mean, didn't Pick that scenario, I should say he walked into it. What he was in with the Kansas City Chiefs was a Patrick Mahomes Alex Smith situation And so what he's trying to do is create that now in Chicago now that he's been able to go out and pick the quarterback that he wants to have, so there's time now to be had Not five years, maybe not three, but at least a full season of okay, Let's see what happens here. It is not Super Bowl or bust in Chicago this year, but it is be competitive in the NFC North, especially if Aaron Rodgers is still on the Green Bay Packers and make the playoffs or bus this year for Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace, And so what do I think is going to happen? I think the defense That does lack death is going to take a step forward because I think to sign knows this defense really well and has been there for a really long time and is really smart and can maybe utilize the personnel different than Chuck Pagano did in Chicago last year. They need to have some depth and make sure that a guy like Robert Quinn stays healthy. I think Andy Dalton is going to be your starter for the foreseeable future until he makes catastrophic mistakes. He has multiple turnovers in a game. It results in an Allen. It is absolutely his fault. Maybe that's weak to maybe it's week five. But I think Justin Field, you drafted him for a reason, and you're going to see him become the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. Sooner rather than later. But when he's ready, and he's not going to be a bad shadow on that coaching staff, so I don't know when that is, but I know that he's a very athletic dude, that is a very smart guy, and I think once he's got a good grasp of this offense You will see Justin Fields under the helm. I'm going to guess, guys, I'm going to guess I'm going to guess if I had to guess when he's going to go in there. The Bears play the Lions at home on October 3rd, Um, that would be week four. That's when I guess we're going to see Um Justin Fields so weak for against Alliance, Shay I know you've answered this question. 17,000 million Different times. Justin Field he'd make starting week three this Daniel Bah bah bah! When what what can he do to force their hand? Bye week one. What can he act? What can he do? Nothing. He He can't do anything. And so they did, and when he constantly turned the ball over against the Atlanta Falcons, who had a terrible defense at the time, he said, I can't I can't do this anymore. My jobs at risk put fulls in and fools just didn't pan out to be the guy. You thought he was going to be. People thought falls is going to be the answer in Chicago, you that offense inside and out. So you're saying Justin Fields can't have splash plays in training camp, And then whatever in in in, um, preseason, really, just start to like. Light it up to the point. So if you're Murphy what's more important to you? Franchise guy like Aaron Rodgers or Good Costa's a GM Because maybe it comes down to those two. You cannot allow player to tell you to fire your GM, especially when said GM has actually had success now large part because of that guy, I get it. You got Aaron Rodgers at 37 38 years old, winning the league MVP. It just feels like everybody else is moving forward Tom Brady winning championships and latter ages and Russell Wilson's kind of stuck right. And if you go back and you look at the last couple of years, haven't they all felt the same right? They all feel like The same thing happened. Russell Wilson has a quasi M V P type season or at least half of it, starting your ending, which everyone you wanna pick, but the team is never quite good enough to be really viable for a championship. And if if you're Russell Wilson, you kind of tired of it writes like, Dude, How many times How long am I going to stay on this hamster wheel? Before we actually start creating a winner around me who have been paid 100 and whatever million dollars over his career, But the only difference is that this year I could attribute a lot of their their failures to Russell Wilson. Good point. Very good point about. That's true because every other year was their defense isn't quite right. They don't have a running game. Dude, they got a good receiver and Tyler Lockett, but that's it. And who else? Who else you scared for in that offense, So, yeah, you're right. That's the one difference, which makes it really interesting that he chose this year. Start to bring about it. And if I'm the Seattle Seahawks, I think I'm very heavily saying to him Look in the mirror us. Look in the mirror. That's what we said. Yes, that's for sure. Yeah. You know, you don't know how they'll handle their their franchise quarterback? I don't know. I I don't know how Russ takes criticism. Yeah, and both were basically flow this on the field and spotless off the field. And I remember when they went for that less contract with Derek and Cashman was like, Hey, listen, You know the fit this one. The defensive metrics were really, really first started to, uh Be thrown around and and and they pointed out is lack of your quickness and suddenly bowls he used to get two with his eyes shut their fun and finding the outfield grass and instead of his mitt On GDR harbored real resentment to the point where it fractured their relationship, and it was never the same Now, I don't know is Russell Wilson a similar type of person. Might be he might be. He's been very private up until the last years. So you know, you know, But then again when Derek was playing, there was an instagram. But I still sense even if there was, I still think Derek would have been detached from that coach sport you do. D. J was in the cut man whose look still stay. He was legendary acid. Loki Legendary, leaving baskets in the limo about his legendary is against Chip. They think, Don. Who is it? Somebody new? I'm sure. But but with Russell Wilson, I don't know how he would die. This is a guest. I think. That he would be turned off. Very offended and almost redirect any honest critiques that come his way. I believe that he would talk his way around that you mean and then kind of repositioning and put it out. Put it in somebody else's doorstep. Yeah, that's interesting, You know? Do you think that that's Ah, Fair instinct? That's I don't I don't know. Um, you know, because here's the thing, BT quarterbacks Like when they've when they've really achieved in there, you know, top line and you know, and they're confident in that they know it. You know it. Everybody else around them knows that the Tom Brady's of the world the M. Rogers of the world. You have the success. The MVPs. Um every anything you need to back it up Criticism doesn't bother you at all. You know, nine years later, and Russell Wilson has been a stud and he's trending. Even He's got work to do to be in the Hall of Fame quarterback right. He's already got the huge contract and You know the person A and the accolades and the prestige of being a superstar in the NFL, But what is he actually done?
