Batting eighth is one of these things is just like, Obviously it's my kids were saying, Listen, Who is this guy? Dad said, Well, you're not alone. Well, Dan Robertson is playing short today. Right. And this is easily the counting. Unless you're a hard core seem head. You fall the transactions. Last week, The Giants picked this guy up after the Rays had waved him. And then they sent her to Sacramento. And I just thought, Well, whatever. And then they called him up. And now they're starting him. Today s O. This is very far on very, very far foreign field himself now by throwing in Dan Robertson because this guy was not performing for the Rays, former A's first round draft pick, actually. And then one little note on him is that he's super tight with Matt Duffy. Okay, said he and Duffy and Tampa together and in fact, Robertson told reporters, he said, I'm going back to the house that Matt Duffy built. Oh, no way. Yeah, but it's kind of nice quote there. And then that night. Just a guy has just been kind of gliding slightly under the radar. This year's is Mauricio du Bon in center field. Yeah, he's not a bad center fielder. He got some yesterday and he was out of the area and then Logan Webb on the hill. That's for your 10 out of 13 giants. In fact, for the nine o'clock around, they frequently don't here. You know that you WanNa do that quite a bit so that kind of stuff to me is the most important Patrick but yes everyone has has different metrics clicks fuse that they find important but usually the business results are the are the most important and and and Matt. I wanted to ask I imagining since picks ability handles all these different platforms that you have some sort of interoperability between in all the platforms is that correct is there's is there something like that yes so our ability one platform can plug into these other platforms forms we have partnerships with Youtube and facebook instagram and with Amazon and other connected TV partners so that we can plug into their platforms and pull data and run campaigns just from one single platform on their native platforms. Wow that's amazing well duffy. I WanNa thank you for chatting with us today. How can people find out more about you and picks ability and the two thousand nineteen state of digital video report they love the enthusiasm that's so they can come to our site picks -bility dot com where they can find the state of digital report in our insights in reports section they also feel free to Lincoln with me on linked in if you have any questions about pigs ability but we'd love to hear from folks and a aw love people to check out our strategy report fantastic thank you Matt Duffy for being on the show. "My name is Dane Golden and today we have a special guest Matt Duffy the Chief Marketing Officer of picks ability. Hello Matt Hay Day doing. I'm doing great. Thanks for being on course I asked you on today because picks ability has released the two thousand nineteen state of digital video report okay if we talk about that yeah. Let's do it all right and while Pixel ability is very well known. They're still some people that don't know who you are. Could you talk a little little bit about who ability is and what types of services you provide sure thanks so kicks -bility. We're video advertising software company based in Boston. We have offices all over the country and in Europe and basically what we do is we help brands and agencies run video advertising campaigns campaigns on our platform pigs ability one platform campaigns that they were they want to reach audiences on Youtube facebook instagram Amazon or other connected. TV options at our platform helps them find find the best audiences on those platforms excellent and you guys have been around on for a few years old timers in this industry. That's right yeah you've been around for for about a decade but we we started out doing other other types types of video services and and we moved into youtube years ago an hour doing like. I said Youtube facebook instagram connected TV stuff so it's great which leads us into the report. Could you give us some of the top takeaways of this report which can be found on the pixel ability website correct it can yes yes yeah so so this report is something we do every year to sort of look at the differences between the major video platforms of the ones. I mentioned Youtube facebook instagram. I and Amazon and other connected TV options and so for takeaways. We have some really I think some really interesting takeaways on each of the platforms that we see each cheer this year what was most interesting to me and for some of our friends at Google were stats about how the longer longer the video ad on Youtube the higher the completion rate so a lot of people think hey I'm. I'm putting an ad on a video ad online. It should be super short to the point yes in some cases but on Youtube people are actually engaging more with with longer content and so a lot of brands for working checking weather creating longer ads. Let me let me stop you. There and let's repeat that just for emphasis so people make sure they hear what you said. Do I hear you right in saying that the the longer the ad the more likely it is someone will watch it all the way through that's right. I mean within reason you know you're not gonNA create an hour long but but for example our study showed that thirty second ads perform way better than fifteen second ads in terms of the completion rates whereas facebook and instagram the opposite is the case you WanNa keep your ads very short on the social platforms was there was there a time I am range was thirty seconds when you say longer thirty seconds was long or did you address one minute or four minute or anything like that or is that not really part of the metric for this study we just looked at fifteen versus thirty but we work a lot with Google and they they actually hire us for for a lot of insights and they they they have data that shows for even longer than thirty second ads. It's engagement is is increasing so it's it's a trend that they're seeing as well. That's amazing and I was our other top takeaways. I think I interrupted you yeah. I was just going to say the same same the same stat does not hold true for facebook and Instagram at you. WanNa keep your ads shorter on facebook and Instagram as opposed to the other thing that was interesting at some the people found surprising is that facebook is actually becoming more and more of a place to reach older an older audience as some people think facebook is something that only kids is used actually more than half of the audiences over thirty five on facebook so when we have folks that are running campaign video campaigns and they want to reach an older demographic we we recommend facebook and sometimes they're surprised but the truth is it's a good place to reach older demographics great okay and there's a lot of I mean pretty much almost every platform has native video now where the most of the dollars being spent which platforms yes of the of the major platforms Youtube facebook instagram Amazon and other connected TV platforms. They represent more than three quarters of all the ad spend and in to in depth that we're GONNA see in two thousand twenty. analyst firms are saying that this is going to be about forty billion spent on video advertising in two thousand twenty. It's obviously a very fast growing billion and of that forty billion about thirty billion. We'll be on those platforms. I mentioned and let's talk a little bit more for I've been hearing a lot about Amazon video lately. That's a little bit newer could is that mean twitch. Does that mean on Amazon Dot com from what is that exactly yeah. That's a really good question so so will you work with Amazon. We have a partnership with Amazon where we can help advertisers advertisers reach people who have Amazon fire sticks and they're they're accessing their their APPs on their television in through the Amazon fire stick and they're watching the food network or other mother work apps through their Amazon fire stick in the very cool thing think about it is as we all can imagine Amazon has amazing audience data so when you're doing video advertising through Amazon fire you're able to know things like what kind of car these people drive what searches they've done what they've purchased on Amazon so it's very it's very cool data now now. How does the industry define fine. What a view is is the same no matter what platform you're on totally different some generalities what's view. I'm I'm putting it to Matt Daffy. Yes so so that is that is something that changes based on platform even changes over time you know on Youtube they they consider view anytime someone watches at least thirty seconds of an ad if it's longer ad they have to watch at least thirty seconds enslow it. If it's a thirty second ad they have to watch the whole thing for facebook and instagram. It's much shorter you just have to have watched three seconds of an ad to call it a view and with connected connected. TV almost all connected TV. ADS are non skip -able so pretty much. If you watch the ad you're watching the whole thing unless you clicked out of it completely really so maybe you know even though of US shorter or longer on one. There's there's other additional metrics that you should use in your media decisions right not just a view definitely. I mean we have very few advertisers that only care about us. They're they're looking at clicks. They're looking at more increasingly. They're looking at brand. Lift we do brand lifts studies with a lot of our campaigns.

"And that's a sacrifice fly, and he's getting into ovation from the fans are hungry for this said that restraint training, and that was part of the thing with all the deals at far made. They're all sort of. Fringe deals. Everyone's waiting waiting waiting. Gimme someone with a baseball card. And finally, they got someone with baseball card and Palomar so they're waiting, you know, for something. Good. And he's been in the big league seven years. He's got forty doubles last year. Fifteen home runs. He can do things. He's superman in the outfield. I like seeing a guy with a dirty union like that to this the grass get the dirt stains, the stolen base. The diving catch the base hit that's old school based book. He's not going to three fifty you know, he's not going to have the, you know, four hundred on base percentage. But he's going to come out to the ballpark and give you something every day that you don't have. And that is excitement somebody on Twitter. Maybe yesterday say this is a comparison there sort of pull our as the center field version of a Brandon Crawford, and I kind of liked that comparison a little bit Crawford not the same spark type of player. But when he keeps run off the border, and he goes into a whole it makes a big play like that ignites the team in a different way. Not every player can do that not every guy has that sort of you were sitting like. The nut flatlined type of Larry's exciting pitchers like him. Yeah. Interests like we'll drew Pomeranz goes today. And just we'll be doing more of this when we get to our pre game, but he's forty four and forty eight lifetime. Droop. Romances hundred ninety eighth game hundred twenty four th start. Who's a first round pick way back way back as a first round pick in baseball this year. He's had one game against the dodgers. He's got no record five innings. Six hits two runs. Both solo home runs. Walk six strikeouts. He threw ninety pitches. Then I thought he did pretty well. I thought he did sort of better than he didn't spring training. So for him the season getting underway. Help left these were two for seven. With a Homer writings were four for thirteen with Homer. So he gave up some some hits. There was some hits giving up six hits in the twentieth bats that he was out there. So that is one thing, but the walks kept that down so the solo homers the key for me with a guy like palm rats. Yes. Six six to forty. Big guy doesn't throw terribly hard is a good breaking ball. So he's got to have that today. Like Matt Duffy said with cheer knows you'll know early if he's a head in the count, then he becomes tough. And that's what baseball's all about today. Get hit it down. Oh one. Oh, two and put them away. What's kind of like what sicker bowlers are about? They don't have that bowling ball sinker. They come out of the pen. It's not feeling the same dignity were getting loose. A lot of times they leave it up early in the game opportunity to jump on as farmers is here in a one year deal with runners on a one for seven. So as I said the runners got on, but his shut it down. And he had a good game. And let the dodgers are no slouch. Now. You know, obviously, they hit another home run last night they extend their record for opening the season with a home run in every game. They're in a paste hit six hundred ninety home runs this year. So what's the dodgers are crazy? I saw some other no to the Mariners of homered in every single game. So far this season home runs or dominated the talk of baseball. Forty percent of all the runs scored are on home runs. You don't see singles anymore. It's strikeouts walks and try to lift the ball. You don't see singles, you don't see. I third, you know, the old empty lar-. Yeah. That's why you like it. No. That's why you like seeing that, you know, move the line. That's the giants way of winning in this park. You've got a string together some hits. Look Doug had a trend this double yesterday..

"You know, everyone waits for you. You know, your name is still magic here. When do we see it back on the diamond hopefully early may early mid may, I think you know, it's tough because I didn't have a spring training. It's not really just about. Hey, I'm back into game shape. But I gotta get probably thirty thirty five at bats. And be comfortable. You know, our team is really deep, and I don't want it to. I don't want me coming off the injured list to be a hindrance on them to make sure that I'm ready to go that I'm are percent and able to contribute to to what we got going. All right hamstring is that it. Yeah. Hamstring a little bit of back that I guess they're kind of a little bit unrelated issues, but neither of them are really helping each other. So that was issue with hamstring ninety one was the back problem. So we've both under control now, and you know, from here, it's just building up on it, really good. But like I said since I had no spring training to a little bit longer build up. All right. You eating okay. Oh, yeah. Keeping the weight on. His feet. She says hi, by the way. I know we miss both that you guys in here from your dad every once in a while to take care of yourself and don't be a stranger. We always left to catch up with you. Thanks, guys. All right. That is Matt Duffy, very nice. Former giant always have a spot here. Right. I always think about the I think the one that comes to mind he mentioned twenty four team to score from second base on a passed ball. That's little league. I know as being a ball player. That's no one knowing you're spot on the field. No one when you can take advantage of something. I love that instinct, I was thinking to myself. I asked him the question is favorite moment of his career. And my favorite moment of his is what you just gotta be. And I can't remember for sure. But it had to be yadi Molina behind the plate. Right. Play for the cardinals had to be. Yeah. Yes. Or from second base. Unbelievable. Well, all right. More coming up came your six eighty the sports leader talking baseball with mardi Laurie on six.

"The next day. It's not a lot of pressure. It seems like even on the two big expectations process associated. We don't wanna talk to you. And you just kind of have to play loose and play hard. Let's really only expectations from the south. You mentioned Kevin cash because he's a guy who has taken over the head of a club. Now that is sort of the cutting edge of the analytics movement, but also a guy who played sorta right before this stuff started. How do you feel like he balances that with you guys as as a constantly moving vehicle that has the mix and match your different pieces in the lineup. Yeah. I think you know, I think for me, I don't I'm not in the conversations that they're having. But it seems from the outside a little bit that, you know, they take all that information and use it to make the best decision possible. And put their players in the best position is still, you know, like the play the hot hand in who's hitting. Well, who's throwing well, you know, it doesn't seem like it's just all about it'll feel like balance, and they take all the information that they have at their disposal to make the best decision possible, not necessarily always the most. I guess sound decision on paper. Oftentimes, it is. But you know, they they have a little bit a little and a really good job with it. We met Duffy with us. Of course, one of the favorites here at San Francisco, and I have a note here alley Williams put together some notes for me to talk to you about added twenty five pounds of muscle. Is that possible? Where did it? Go. This gotta just everywhere. Really? That was my main goal this all to be able to handle the ground to the full season. Ironically, I hurt myself before the first spring training game turned out to be a kind of a separate issue. The added way had something to do with it. But you know, we're turning art direction. But yeah. Those out of my goal this often difficult kind of having to force food down my throat a little bit. I wasn't comfortable those down a lot of people say that they would love to have that problem but having to gain weight, but I was hoping for some people lose weight gain weight. So you're not particularly enjoyable. All right. Well, we can't wait to see we saw Christian Royal yesterday. And he grew up into his body. I'll tell you that he's a man now. Facial hair two totally different totally different. Well, Matt Duffy is with us. Matt looking at your career and thinking back to San Francisco bring us back to some of your favorite moments of being giant here. I think you know, the top of the list of certainly to fourteen postseason. I wish I could go back to having the perspective perspective that I have now of how difficult it is to make the postseason win the whole thing. But you know, I had only been in the big leagues, I think two months at that point. So I just thought this is amazing. Was supposed to be you know for a while. It was that way in San Francisco, and that was certainly the top of the list for me, obviously two thousand fifteen especially your two and us being the whole year that was fun trying to chase down the dodgers. And it's not always I guess the the top top of the list that you enjoy you're still enjoy..

"The. This is from what I've seen. It looked like he was he might have been looking in a little bit early. I don't know if he if he was just look that way. I thought maybe we can freeze them out there and stayed on put a put a really good swing on Bumgarner sort of going big picture here saying, you know, you want to get the win. But but ultimately this early in the season. You're just looking to feel good about how you throw obviously alert own a game. And unfortunately the forest, but you know, I think million everybody else on the staff wouldn't take that long every time out. And I think if we did that we don't think there'd be pretty successful. Yeah. More often than not they're not to hang zero. I know that sounds crazy more often than not when you're facing a guy like lower. You're not going to hang zero. It's the number of lefties at the giants are gonna face this year that the concerns me about this lineup. Ninety five says I heard the quote rule five guy mentioned today and previously. What does that mean? If you're not familiar with that terminology the rule five draft is something held every December. It's basically made to protect players who have been drafted and sitting in a minor league system for a number of years without being placed on a forty man roster. So what happens is, and I don't know, exactly. The threshold after you've been a minor leager for four years or something like that. If a team does not have you on their forty million roster. Then you get placed into what's called the rule five draft where you can get plucked from any other team in baseball. Now, if you get plucked from that team the rule is that like with Connor Joe you've got to remain on the twenty five man roster for the entire season. If you do not remain on the twenty five man roster. If the giants decide they want Connor Jody go down to the minor leagues. They have to offer him back to his previous team. Dave, you look it up. You've got more information. Yes, sir. I'm right here. The rule five draft out of MLB dot com. It says actually you only have to keep him on the roster active for a minimum of ninety days. I believe it's the entire season. Everything I've heard is. And what I've read from Carrie Crowley would have to. We'll double check. But I believe it's once you draft somebody in the rule five it's the direction of the season. The giants did this last year with a guy named Julian Fernandez that got him from the Rockies or somebody like that member. He was a hard throwing through over one hundred miles an hour, and then had to have Tommy John surgery. The giants this you decided they didn't want him on the roster. They had to give him on back to the Colorado Rockies. Four hundred eight says they did okay without him. Go back to sleep copes. I love you. But dude, I don't know what you're saying. Okay. Without without who four zero eight. I'm talking talking. Giants lineup isn't all that. Good. And you're saying I'm saying, oh, you're talking Bumgarner. I'm saying they did do okay without Bumgarner. I know they weren't good in the first half last year. But you look at them at the end of August. They were five hundred they were putting runs I'm talking the pitching staff did just fine. The giants pitching staff was top three in the in major league baseball and ERA for the duration of last season until about they get to September bringing up de rod was okay. I know Johnny Cueto think people forget Johnny Cueto was leading major league baseball in ERA before he went down with Tommy John surgery last season tie block came out the giants. When those first two games against the Tigers one zero both of those games beat kenley Jansen and be Clayton Kershaw not making a case for the child's being some playoff team. But as far as strengths and weaknesses of this organization starting. Pitching and bullpen were damn good last year. It's the lineup. That has been the absolute frustration seven zero seven says get the lipstick ready. Okay. All right. Okay. For they're they're coming at me now because I'm not totally crushing the team. I'm just saying I I if you in -ticipant of this team being a competitive baseball team this year. You were fooling yourself. Take your head out of the sand. Did you think they were going to be good last year with mccutchen? And longoria. You saw how it played out. You took mccutchen out of the outfield. You didn't get Bryce Harper. They made a push for. He wanted to go to Philadelphia. He got more money. He got more years. He had no opt-outs. It's the way things played out this off season. You can't come down on far Hans ID and saying this thing didn't work or is not working when they've played one ballgame wet guy get his staff in place. I had this problem in the NFL all the time when a team is bad and they put a new head coach and the team is still bad after one season, and they can the head coach. What did you think was going to happen? Let him put a system in place. How was the offense? Get better after. One year of a of a of a new system or a defense better. After one year of a new system, you're coming off a three world championships. You've got a core of players at the giants locked up based on what they did in those years. And now you're feeling the repercussions of it on the free agent market. And within the organization, they traded the young talent that they had in order to grab a guy like Matt Moore, you know, I would love to still have Matt Duffy to believe me. I would love to still have Matt Duffy. But you tried to make a run with Matt Moore and you were one game away the bullpen coughed it against the cubs. And that was you were one game away from playing a game five in Chicago. And you ask every giants fan, and they'll tell you I believed if they'd gone back to Chicago Johnny Cueto was gonna win that ballgame. I think Joe Madden felt it. I think havi bias felt it. The rest is history though, the cubs go on they win a World Series. That's that. But you made a push. I'm always okay with trading talent. If you're getting value back, and if it pans out if you win a World Series, who cares. It's like the berries ITO argument spent. Too much on Zito you got two World Series in that contract. Don't kill my dreams. Does it matter where the money's allocated? If you win championships they gutted the organization in order to try to keep this thing alive. And they did it better than most teams. The oh eight oh nine Phillies have got to feel like they should have got one more. And they were probably still in the window when they lost in the LCS to the giants. But could not get it done. Five hundred says Matt Duffy can't stay healthy. All I know is MAC Duffy was top ten in batting average the American League last year. I'd take him over Evan longoria in the contract. They're paying him right now. I think I think that'd take that. I will continue with some of this giant stock. But also on the other side I want to get to this fund sound from yesterday. Tim Duncan in the NBA. Tim Duncan had some weird slicked back haircut to yesterday. It was here that maybe the hair straightened. No pulling out the curls that he would naturally grow. Anyway, tip some product at his hair, Tim Duncan. Sort of took a shot at at Gregg Popovich in modern nobly in a funny way at the Monte job jersey, retirement ceremony. So some good sound coming up to get your smile after a dud of giants loss yesterday. More coming up Friday morning in the leadoff spot on the sports leader..

"But some reasons or just kind of tired of him as we does that sound, you know, he's had one thousand at bats in Tampa Bay. And they kind of see these young guys in the system and kind of keep trying to nudge him out. And yet he still stays there. He stills productive. I love Matt Duffy. And again, there's a section of race wins who do love Matt Duffy. But to your point of being overlooked even some race fans overlook him and say, well, we got upgrade. Matt Duffy, we need to upgrade at third base upgrading infield. Duffy. No, you don't he's a very very good player. And I think that Matt Duffy's part of why the race vote. Trebol off of. Everyone is contract last year shipping him to stiffen Cisco. And then what they got back though, which Krishna Royal a third base prospect to everyone as soon as that moves happen named the next longoria. So now they're trying to kind of fast track him to the big leagues. Even though he's not shown to be ready about the major league level and kind of moved up the other way. So even raise fans to an extent overlook, Matt Duffy. And so that kind of just goes across baseball and Tampa Bay seems like even the raise like a dissenter kind of fast track in a Royal trying to kind of nudge Duffy a little bit. I mean, if you're Duffy, how do you handle that? You know, there's another cop out to us here. He just a professional. Matt Duffy doesn't care if he's playing in Tampa Bay Kansas City, Boston New York. He's was play baseball. I don't think this. I don't think this kind of stuff gets to him. There are some players that does for sure I think Matt w is not one of those guys just a head down kind of guy a hard-working kind of guy. I think that we are point is correct for most guys. But for Matt Duffy. I don't think he really cares where he plays. If it's in Tampa, great. If it's not a well, you have guys that are just consummate professionals. I mean, you can kind of look all around the league we could talk about somebody like Elvis Andrus. I mean, again, it's one of those situations. Nari he Elvis's amazing. He's also extremely underrated at the position right next to Duffy. I mean, but a guy that I don't that. I think handles his business doesn't let people get to him and the best the best way to put that in terms of people Adrian Veltri. I mean, biltrite did everything. Possible in the most professional way. And that's that was one of the big reasons that everybody in baseball seem to love him. Once he finally got the recognition ninety deserve. Yeah. I think you hit on the head. That's that's kind of the poster child for professional, and you know, back to Andrews. It's kind of funny that he's the exact same guy at the major league level that he was at the Marley level. I was lucky enough. The at the time the the Rangers owned the AAA rights to Oklahoma City. So I saw him Kinzler crews all those guys come up to the minor leagues. And they were just the same there as they were whenever they won the world sear went to the world sees excuse me, sadly lost both times. This is one of my favorite outfields in baseball. I don't know if I asked I don't know if it's a good thing that I love this team as much as I do being a SOX fan..

"So just keep. I on him if and when he comes up, you know, Matt Duffy is not somebody who's been in most. About him getting traded like he could be part of. I'll know Duffy. Okay. So you know, he could be a guy who ends up in San Diego. Is there kind of temporary third baseman as they wait for it to be ready? And then that would open up a spot for for for loud to come up in either play move Wendell over to third or and then play him at seconds. So don't forget you Andy DS too though base stuffy win. Not on this list. But we just talked about him. So because Diaz is a guy going outside of the top three hundred that just a small tweak just just figure out how to change that launch angle number, and and he could take off the bottom line. As is always the case with the raise they have a lot of guys, but they all seem to get a chance somehow too. So even though they're always crowded, everyone seems to get a look at some point to to have a chance to prove themselves. So what I do like about Lau is that he's not super young. I know it sounds weird to sakes. We usually like want the players who are in their early twenties. But the way Tim obey slow roasts there guys. I kind of want the guys in the mid twenties. They're going to be more apt get that opportunity. So he should be I man up because he can kind of fill in or at least push other people around to fill in wherever anything happens outside, of course catcher. But Brandon Laus somebody just to keep an eye on a bit of power bit of speed. I think the power could win out and make it be impact. Whereas the speed is more of a contribution the Ol- seven to ten over the course of a full season there. So that then that does it. That's my list there. We will do this for pitchers as well. If you want if you wanna follow along you can go to the NFC ADP we'll link in the show notes set it to you can do. I mean, they're seven drafts for July for January first. Now, you can we did Christmas. So the ADP might be a little different. But maybe going forward on these. We'll do we'll do the first of the year until now and then just take out just do draft champions only because the other formats have drafted like a cutline are different. And they're really going to skew things so just do draft champions. And then you can pick some players that you like post three hundred hitters that you could have breakout seasons. And it doesn't have to be somebody who's never hit before. If you think Matt Kemp can go off again and hold it. All. A year..

"Sixty eight with five homers four stolen bases in one hundred sixty five plate appearances gets shifted. The Tampa Bay in the Chris Archer deal hasn't been called up with them yet mainly because he's been killing it so much at AAA and they're actually in the playoffs. So I believe that's why he's still down in the miners, even though even playing and let's be honest. They don't really have a shot to do anything. I mean, it's as well as playing. I mean, they would need to play just as well if not better the rest of the way to really do some damage, but put this in perspective. He had two homers a seven. Twelve Opie s. one hundred seventy nine point appearances at AAA, Indianapolis with Pittsburgh in one hundred six plate appearances with triple a Durham has ten homers three forty, four average eleven sixty seven opiates. So he's been absolutely on one. So when he does get called up, I think Austin meadows is somebody you want. I could see his draft value being pushed up. If he comes up has a final two weeks, ten days of of excellence for them after those triple a. playoffs are done. I think there's going to be some real excitement around Austin meadows this year now that excitement isn't going to translate into an obscene cost by any stretch. But I do think he'll he's somebody that I don't know. Let's say, could he be pushed up into the ones seventy range and kind of the low end? Maybe maybe even a little bit higher than that, I could see that. You know many Margot. We saw what he did last year now is he's a tough comparison because he is so speed driven Margot is, and that makes p. Do crazy things and fantasy. But let me see where meadows is speed, is that kind of speed? Not quite. He does have really strong speed meadows does, but not quite where Margot is. Margot is twenty fifth. And again with ties, he's probably like eighth in sprint speed. He's at twenty nine point. Four and meadows is at twenty eight point nine. So not that far behind though he does have does have real speed and his powers really come along. And so yeah, I think somewhere in that range is where I'm going to be comfortable taking my shots on on meadows. I'm going to be interested in him next year quite a bit that lineup to is going to really starting to come together with some big things in Tampa Bay because they're gonna have a full year of fam- so they're gonna have like a fam- cure Meyer meadows outfield. While the infield maybe isn't as good. I was like, oh, you know what's Wendell really gonna do Adamas I do like they'll run a probably a first base platoon, maybe just the outfield maybe the whole, maybe not the whole lineup, but Matt Duffy quietly was he's kind of when when deli in as well, though they have a lot of guys like that who are just like solid, but unspectacular kind of linger in that ninety eight to one zero, eight range of WRC plus basically kind of average, but the outfield could actually be something special. We'll see if care Meyer keeps going with what he's been doing lately because otherwise he's had a pretty bad season..

"All right, welcome back to the GMC baseball podcast. The third segment of the day today has we're gonna finish up this raise. Blake Snell had a great day yesterday, pay playing the Red Sox. He got his sixteenth. One of the season looks like there actually was no home runs from that game. Ray scored nine runs. They had a few doubles a triple, but looks like a pretty good day. Matt Duffy when two three or four with to is to run scored. I know that name is used to be a giants guy that three more guys with two hits in the game. I mean, only two guys had did not actually get on dig the action on bass actually Bowers on base the walk and sorted Adamas. The shortstop really the only guy who did not did not get on base, looks like in this one. All right. Moving on to the next game as the White Sox and Tigers played in Detroit again, why? It's the winds seven to two as. This was the start for the young young kid kopech as he was Michael kopech was coming to make his start as he was the guy that the Red Sox traded over to the White Sox four Chris sale when he's facing Jordan's remain, and he pitched very nicely against tires lineup. He went six innings lead one run on seven hits no walks four strikeouts to get his first win. As I start was actually cut short rain delay. So this was actually first real like full starting very nicely for the young right hander there in in well, he's there in Detroit for that game home runs for that one. Polka hit his nineteen year for the for the White Sox. And one home run for the Tigers from Rodriguez. They're short stop there for the Tigers. That's Ronnie Rodriguez his second of the year. Nationals beat up on the Mets fifteen. Nothing has the Mets actually had them shut out for the verse two games in the nationals come out. Score fifteen runs. It's actually this game was a close game for quite a while. Actually, it was one thing. It was new zero zero to six thinning. The national scored around in the six eight runs in the eighth. Another eight run eighth on the show today and six more runs in the in the ninth inning to really Cameron home there for the for the nationals as. They got home runs, and this one came from Woolmer Defoe his fifth of the year at a meeting. Also, it is fifth and Mike Reynolds, his twelve th of the season. They had sixteen hits actually only sixteen it's on fifteen run. So whether there was much walks of the take, see how many walks four walks for the nationals. The issue more walks than they than they actually drew, but still got the win fifteen to nothing..

"He's playing starting a lot for the parts this year and having a pretty good year. Actually, that's Austin meadows. They're second, they're outfielder who can play pretty much any outfit position. Looks like right now with. He's been a good been playing well for the pirates. So he's now going to be in Tampa Bay and thinking about Tampa Bay is they, they do. They seemingly win every trade they make. I don't know what it is. Maybe not the ones that I know they traded longoria that traded traded Matt Moore away. I don't know how Matt Duffy, and I think that those are trays. They me with the giants. And I just I know who they sent back over. Christian Arroyo was one of them. I think Denard span actually was in that deal for longoria, and he actually was playing pretty good for the raise of four. They sent him to Miami Seattle in a trade with the Mariners, but he's still plays with the Mariners. Now to aren't span, does play a team that could be making lapses here. Go, but no. Thinking about thinking about what the razor doing, that's not a bad move me get awesome medicines targeted player in the you've flipped Chris Archer, and you think that you're gonna. It's gonna run with Blake's. Now, of course, Archer hasn't really had. He's been injured con- this year, but I mean the pirates, they're, they're really, they went all in right there. They give a good and to give him a good outfielder and a good believer. Taller glass now also goes over to the raise forecast Archer. So I mean, sometimes the name, it's the name looking at it. Oh my gosh, the traded for him. But then also the names went back over to the other team at selling. Might be a win there for. I mean, the thing is Chris Archer is under contract. I think four through twenty twenty one. I want to say, looking at his. The his contract really quickly here pulling it up as I mean, I guess the dodgers kinda did want him, but maybe the pirates got him to keep them from the dodgers as they wanna look at his contract as he does see, signed a six-year deal, six years, twenty five million. So it's cheap. It's a cheap contract. He signed through the. So So he he has has a. a team. Is it a player option or a team option? I know he's a free agent in twenty twenty two, but I'm not sure what. Yes. What through twenty twenty one. He is. He's under contract and it looks like I think there's a team team. Option for the bat. Okay. The buyout is yes. It's a buyout for after twenty twenty. So he can he the team can decide to buy after twenty or after twenty nineteen the ass options starting twenty twenty. Okay. But yeah, I think they're, I think they're team options, and if you don't want to pick it up, he's still gets a million bucks. There you go. Yes, of course charge. Not bad deal. Honestly, not about deal with all for the for the for the pirates because they could honestly just they could decide if if you can pitches this year, he'll pitch next year for them and they don't want any anymore. They could pay them the million bucks or million seventy five to leave, and that'd be fine and not have to be saddled with the eight point, two, five million that he's due for twenty twenty and twenty twenty one each year. So they're just going to the business side of it of a trade. Sometimes you wanna look guys, they're being traded with the have years left on their contract, and that's why you probably ought to throw an Austin meadows in there to get an Archer. If you're the pirates, remember the pirates or routine all they're selling everybody, they're, they're getting rid of cold or you had to read mccutchen lull. They're there. They just won eleven in a row. I know they're kinda hitting, especially with some of these other teams hitting the skids a little bit. I know it's a new division, unfortunately in the east, but you never know what teams can fall into out of the playoffs in the wildcard, like the Braves, you never know or or there's there's teams. I mean, there's there's said there's eight teams in the American League and the national leader within..

"I mean, if there is some off the field story, that's not public knowledge that maybe helps explain the players struggles. For instance, if you're I know, you're not always the person who was talking to the opposing GM in the trade, but is that something that might. Hey, just so you know, he's been going through this or that, or is it? I don't know, almost like too much salesmanship or something or or you know, maybe you can't trust it because he knows that the person's trying to put a spin on it. It's all about personal style. You know when it comes to the the GM you know, it's just a one GM might might want to explain all that stuff for me. I think it's it's useful. You know, from a full disclosure standpoint, you're trying to make a move down the line and you're trying to explain the struggles a little bit. Maybe it gives you a little bit of an edge in trying to make that trade. I think what upsets people or upsets opposing GM's or upsets opposing teams is when you try to explain when a player is not very good, and you're trying to explain to that team, why you think they're good and why they're good a good fit for ver- their team. It's like, no, no one wants to hear like they know they know what they want, and they really want to get rid guy. But here's what he's good. He'd be great for you, and there are some gyms that do that and that just upsets the other team. They don't. They don't want to know why you're. Terrible reliever would be great on their team if you're, you know so. So from that standpoint? Yeah. Do you don't want to be doing that? But if it might be, hey, this guy is going through a divorce, and we think he'd be better in your environment or whatever. It may be those types of little things to get a little bit further ahead and trade talks. That type of stuff I think is useful in terms of like on field makeup than you. You talk about players respond to pressure situations, and I think the the easy hand wave answer to this is when you're in the public sphere, is that we'll players there get to the majors in the whole process is selective for players who can handle themselves in the major leagues. So how how do you respond to that major leaguers have generally already been proven to be successful in in pressure situations or is it maybe predictably it more nuance than that? Yeah, I think I think Jeff said it's, it's it's a lot more nuance than that. There's a great article by Danny Duffy. I'm sorry, not Danny Duffy. Matt Duffy to get my Duffy's mixed. Hold on. There's actually two mad Duffy's the Matt Duffy's on the race. Okay. And it's in the, it's in the players Tribune, and he talks about his time when he first joined the giants and how the giants have a winning culture and they're really welcoming to him. I think hunter Pence was really welcoming to him and they told them that they needed him and that he was going to be a big part of their club. But I believe the advice was don't look up when you're on the field. Don't look up and what was the what? Why was that? Because there's two extra levels of stands in the major leagues compared to the minor leagues, and it is intimidating. And again, getting back to the fact that these are human beings. Yes, there's, I don't know what percentage of our population are. People who can just pop into the major leagues go. I am the greatest, you know, Muhammad Ali, I don't even care. You know, there's four levels of stands or three levels of stands or whatever. I doesn't faze me at all. But many people are just like you and me, and you know, it takes time to adjust many of these players. They need to make an adjustment and perhaps whatever percentage it is. It doesn't phase them, but you know, it'll get them eventually. I think the minor leagues trains you and baseball such a failure game, but I don't think anything really, really prepares you to play in front of forty, five thousand people at Yankee Stadium, and that's an adjustment and you need to learn how to handle that..
