can listen by the podcast one APP podcast one dot com and please follow us contact us on twitter at Ad Podcast or using Hashtag Jack Dogs coach welcome back to the podcast our things now that the next game dependent game is the thing that you build upon most recently how are things here in the building well so much has happened since since our last podcast week ago I mean there was there was the gain there was a lot to that game thought team played You know in one of those Great College Football Games play a lot of character a lot of effort and heroic at times you know and really putting our team in a position to to win the football game so many so many performances like that shape Patterson Ronnie Bell Canada grown quick pay you know again I'm GonNa leave some guys out the nick eubanks Vince Gray thought played really well and so two ambery and the offense allied as a whole there was adversity we got down and then had some calls that we had made some big plays that got called back at another drive stopped and call felt was not the right call interference call so those those those things that are happening in but I think our team is learning that I mean it's to keep persevere keep overcoming now the only fair is the county fair that a long time ago so yet you keep you keep on to keep fighting and I and I see that has come together and continuing to come together for football team and you know really makes you I feel good about that the next day things didn't end in the victory and he'd go through some human motions of whether it's you're sad or you're angry about something wasn't fair you you go through you know the gamut of those things and and then when you've sufficiently done that and then you say it's respond you know get moving working get back up and added and and our team has done that in doing that and started this morning with a with a practice and coaches game plan and players being in going over the details from the from the game and and look on where to to our next opponent and Notre Dame and understanding that that what the every Saturday brings Is that opportunity that new opportunity and seizing it the way you would you would want our guys to do I mean lessons that go far beyond the game of football as a coach again over the years you look back the there there are times that you've won James Big and you didn't quite get the feel that your team had played the very best they could or as hard as they could or and you were and appointed and there's other games were like this game where it came down to the very end teams down by what twenty one points at twenty one to seven at halftime yeah I mean an atmosphere that's unknown to mankind unless you've been there I mean it is unbelievable and it goes from an hour before the game but until the end of the game and these kids fought so very hard and that's got to be for the leadership of the team I'm talking about the coaches and the players this tweak opportunity to build on that and I got an I just feel I just got a feeling that they're going to build on that and this will propel us into those last what five six games of the season and and it's GonNa put us where we want to be and and this week is so so very important but I know when I turned I was so disappointed when I when I turn the TV off and then I started thinking and reflecting about character this team in the in the performance in fight that this team had and how they came together as a team and that sideline at the end of the game and it's one of those times we did not win the name there's no question about that but there's something about this team that I really really like football at the end of the game it seems like it can come down to one play but obviously all the players fort lead to that point but when a play doesn't go your way towards the end players feel it you know it's especially if the balls right there whatever so how's Romney doing because he had a heck of a game and saw his emotions spilled out on the field and for young man like that played as well he has for you guys quit pretty quick bounce back but that's a tough moment for that young man Rodney Bell we'd take as many Ronnie Bells as you could possibly have on the football team and You know fortunately we have we have some others like Rodney but you know these he's in that that upper one percent of our best players and and some guys drop a ball and the don't have any reaction to it football means a lot to Ronnie Bell and and like I said I would I would take as many Ronnie Bells as we could possibly get and the other thing about that I I'm sure you're you're you're still coaching when happened the reaction of his teammates he's standing there and you get to see the disappointment is face player after player after player after player walks up put their arms around him and whispered in his ear and and the he was he was straight ahead looking and but that support from his teammates had mean so much much and for them to feel that way about him and respect him that much that was that was heart warming for me in writing bills is really tough-minded guy and it's as tough a football player as I've ever been around and as I said I mean after after gave me go through those motions those are that's life you know and and equally as important and what you learn and playing the game of football all is how to respond and have no doubts Ronnie is responding is you know he's he's up on it in full support of uh everybody on the team but we're not even we're not even at that point if it's not Apparati Bell we're winding down go over a point the the the scary thing for me in football it's not just in college football it's in professional football it's this pass interference thing how they're calling it and what they're seeing some things that are so clear for watching it on television I mean the announcers I'm not just talking about our game please let me I'm talking about all of football how how could you we not see that you got seven guys out there looking how do you not see it but I understand the cameras are up here and you're looking at it from all these different angles and these and these I can't see it but it's scary how that pass interference is affecting games at both the college level and a professional and there's gotta be I'm kind of way to address that I'm not sure what it is I know I'm talking too much but John at the professional meetings last February there were there and what he suggested is an official official in the press box watching the game the way the fans watch and if he sees something egregious or something that that should have been seen but it wasn't seen he can throw a flake or hit a button and it's a penalty and it's going to be called yeah some older official maybe as lost some agility can't move around as much but he has insight and he has is and and he's and he he can correct things and not allow these games be changed and winners and losers decided on calls it should be should be made a coach in the press agreed that that's what they should do but for some reason New York and whatever he decided that they didn't want to do it for whatever reason the AF had a when their brief incarnation before they folded halfway through the year but they had it what they call the eye in the sky official and that's exactly what you're talking about I think it would have been a better resolution for the NFL than the challenging the opposite power passengers in general which they have overturn I think one out of it's an absolute joke they said well we're not going to do the fish rulebook except you're you're speaking to the Fan Bay will we're trying we you're not just trying you better make sure you fix it Bagri point you turn you turn the page you move onto the next game is Notre Dame not a hard game to get the guys to turn the page and get ready or this is one of the three robbery games on the schedule that I'll be here in Ann Arbor this season big game coming up and I know for you you really excited to get them back on the schedule last year now you have a chance to get them at home yeah it's a big game winning the next game so important and talking about where our team is and and I would like our team and were they are and where they're headed and you had this opportunity at huge huge kind of kind of things that memories are made of I remember being made it was earlier today at a chance to watch some old clips I was watching the nineteen seventy eight the Montana versus leach game and you must have had a lot of fun down South Bend back eighteen seventy eight when it was the original renewal of the rivalry and it was a great game is coming back on that it was a beautiful sunny day in in South Bend in The two great quarterbacks away it turns out Dan Devine was the head football coach at Notre Dame he had been a very desperate coach in Missouri and he was on he was walking that sideline and Boesch Mbacke learn the other side and were you at that Game Jim I was do you remember what do you remember about it and they're sitting in the end zone and watching in Michigan victory can't remember the plays that well but I remember being there it's funny what your mind goes to I remember being in the Locker Room I swear to God knute Rockne a touch this touch this wall talk about being in a place like the big house or in that great stadium I was watching some of the highlights of marsh touchdown pass Rick and also rough plan and the one that Ralph Clayton caught was when he got popped right at the goal line and went down was out cold but he held onto the football and that was the second touch late the game they're really good played really good football very talented team that's playing very well together and very well coached physical team and and we're very excited about the challenge coach appreciate it as always coming up next to talk to your brother brothers coming off a big victory in Seattle we'll talk about the ravens in their win over the seahawks and the wedding band from Lewis Jewelers my wife's wedding band her engagement rings she's got a really "He said three years. Our team has been five feet away from the pope five feet from the Mona Lisa and five feet from a lion. Lau that's pretty incredible. That is the Michigan difference. Just one quick thing from being here, not being on the trip and just everyday anxious in the morning to get up. And read the comments that, that the tweets that are, that are out there, the pictures that are out that are sent back. I mean it was magnificent. But the one thing that stood out players reaction, the young men's reaction to the trip. How excited they were to be there. And what a life changing experience at they quoted it to be. And, and spelled it out to be you got the real flavor for it through those to the eyes of those players who through those tweet. So it was exciting for us this to, to hear how much they were enjoying the trip final words from the icebergs. I just think that also we need to give a really big. Thank you to coach Harbaugh. Absolutely. Yeah. You it was his idea to start these trips three years ago. This is the only one that's even an I have been fortunate enough to go on. And hopefully we'll get to do that again next year but to, to do this as a huge undertaking and it's also what he believes in and to get the players, not just on the field but off the field, not just in to school, but outside into seeing the world and there's nothing better than making kids, totally and completely, well rounded, and I think it is a big big compliment to him because not only that, when you have to think about how many kids are on the field each year every single one of these kids are not, maybe not going to make it to where exactly they think they're going. But with what coach has been giving them in the university of Michigan, they're gonna wind up an amazing. Wherever they fall. And I just wanna thank you for that. Oh, thanks. It's feel like we grow the draw the long straw, you know, for all of us for me to listen to Matt Dudek, talk about the, you know, thank politics in, in, in the world..

"For a job. You don't get. It. You ask a girl out? She says no like there are things in life where you lose. If you don't learn how to accept that losing then you can't fail forward because you're going to fall further backwards and just like I think maybe three things in my lifetime. I look back on at risk when you're a seventh grader you've never played football. You put on football pads, and you go out and play. You get your tail kicked you get driven into the mud, and you and Old you. and you come back the next day you come back in a how do you find that? But I look at what my life would have been or could have been without taking that risk. The other one has probably more importantly is that Ernie Hamilton's psychology the story you you find enough courage to take a risk and asked this beautiful young lady for out out for coffee. I wonder again, what my life would have been a had had I not taken that risk. And then I look back as coaches, I got fired at at western Michigan the end of the world might career and then western Kentucky. They took the program away from us. Call us in and said football program has gone, but you find a way to come back the next day make it better the next day than it was today and better tomorrow than it is today. And and those are wristed we take in our lives and father. And mothers out there with with with young children five six seven eight year olds encourage them to step beyond their their bounds. A little bit and to experience. And if it doesn't quite go the way, it was you know, wraparound around and tell them how proud you are that they did it in encourage them to take that next step. I think are so much in in that poem that we can all we can all use a word because it's a fancy word glean who can all glean in our lives and and move on. So in recent weeks, we've had the twenty one days, which we heard come back during the Ben hall interview talking about Zack all the twenty first day, which is shows how profound Twenty-one days thing is the you talked about us not just moving to college. But new job or whatever it might be that kind of thing. Of course, we did the Rover Royer boat, which I know a lot of parents out. There have been doing more Royal both things that their kids lately, I know Matt Dudek and I both have. So there's that and now risk of starts with a poem. And but but it's true. You have to learn how to take a chance and know that you may not emit at work. How many coaching changes did you make in your career and most of the work right coming from Iowa to Michigan? It worked going from Michigan to Stanford. It worked going from Stanford. A western didn't work as well. Going to go into western Kentucky it worked. So you you're not gonna get them. All all the you have a pretty good hip percentage on your moves and how they worked for you and built that career up but same thing with Jim right? He took the risk to take the job with the raiders. He took the risk to go to an anon- scholarship school at San Diego. He took a risk to then go up to a Stanford program that hadn't won anything in forever price, Bill Walsh. And then he took the risk to go to the NFL. He took the risk comeback to al-matar though, seem to be working pretty well for Jim. So he's got a pretty good track record to and we hope that most people when they take those risks succeed. But every once in a while you're gonna get popped in the face. And you've got a not how hard you get hit. It's how well you get back up. And I think that's one of the great lessons that mature. Jackie. And I have have learned over our our our marriage in in bringing up our children and being around our family, real quick. Speaking of Jackie any tips for the fellows out there for Valentine's Day this week. All I know is that cars, I think we talked about this a little bit last year..

"The Harbaugh's podcast IRA whinge appear back inside sham. Boeckler hall. Coach Jim Harbaugh's here. Jacquard boss here. Matt Dudek is here MacKenzie is back. Stateside as well. Great to have fact from the world who the entire crew back last week. I was at Jack's house watching little Jack's leading down the hill during the during the snowstorm, and you guys are out on the road and all kinds of stuff going on. And now it's great back here inside the inside the office on the day after the Super Bowl. We're gonna talk about in a moment. But I do want to mention we got a tweet from Dave Louis who tweeted in about a week ago said I think Claud was the best guest in the history of the podcasts as a young dead. He's the type of father I aspired to be. Wow. And that is the opening of our lucky sports dad's lucky sports parents series. I definitely got her off on a strong strong with the first one with Claude Johnson and a great reception that that's just one example of a lot of feedback that we got on the podcast last week. So. Same way. Then we got a good off. This is great gather enough information. I mean just kept coming at you from all angles. I'm you would what I just saw caught. He was he was just on. Like ESPN or one of the one of the major networks, and they were they were talking about. He was given his ex owes about Jackie Robinson. He was he was hundred birthday just. Yeah. So he was Jackie Robinson's hundred birthday, and they were talking to Claude about how good of a basketball player. Now. Jackie Robinson was and ball. Ball and football. I think maybe Kareem Abdul Jabbar was talking about his football club was like the basketball expert of what kind of what kind of game that Jackie Robinson had in basketball. When he they ran the single wing at UCLA at the time, and he was tailback, and I might have been an all American. I mean, he announced standing football player those great segment with Claude. We look forward to continuing of our lucky sports parents segments that's going to return next week with Ben hall, the father of Zach Chardonnay. So looking forward to that coming up next week here on the podcast sauna another tweet when I was surfing through Twitter last night and a little bit before kickoff of the Super Bowl. I saw a tweet of Jim and little Jack Harbaugh at the Super Bowl. And then we saw little Jackie in the office. How many days now in a row judge Jim is has your somewhere? His Tom Brady jersey John three or four days in a row now. Yeah. It's not nice at least three Monday Sunday. Saturday Friday chart started wearing Friday and he slept at every single night. And we had a great time. We were throwing the we're playing catch out in the parking lot before we went to the game. And. We he's up on me. And that that game dad, you're not gonna win. I'm gonna tell I try my hardest to beat him. In in this game. And he's up on me right now like twenty nine wins to twenty to win. He's got an interesting way of counting to I got him play fair to I'm not let him cheat either. Well, he I have I saw that same picture IRA of last night. Jim. Where they call it texted. You texted texted that new thing they do. But there must have been about eight pictures that Jim sanest, and my my my comment was these are the two happiest kids I have ever seen in my entire life, Jack and dad his dad my son. Jim what to happy guys they were. Well, he he loves he loves he loves football. Jack loves football. Tom Brady is his hero. And but little Jack. He's he's my goat. I I had. I had great time. Tell a story about the punter. Yeah. Oh, it's a great story. I mean, we we've got there real early where there early and he's he's clued to the field. He's watching everybody come out. I mean, he's cheering and he's doing everything. So the first players out there in their pads are warming up where the with specialist so kick..

"Once again with our coaches, Jim Harbaugh, Jack Harbaugh director of recruiting Matt Dudek is here as well. We're a couple of weeks into the semester. So winter conditioning's going you're busy, obviously on the recruiting trail. But I have noticed because you put a tweet out about ten or so days ago, you still get a chance to do some family time take in some some basketball, which you your daughter playing basketball, just the way you guys would like it is what it looked like she is leading the team in loose balls. Nice. She is doing that and rebounded. And and then we have that's Addy. She's ten years old playing for the Mustangs. And then we also have Jack six had his first ball game playing for the polar bears. And cold. Be at fifteen rebounds. And what you at four four baskets. They say eight points on Saturday point. He knows exactly how many points. He got don't give that how many points you guy. You know, exactly how many got we had a bunch of recruits in on Saturday announced it there was a nice announcement. And when he walked back in the building eight points, fifteen rebounds, he was like Dennis Rodman. But outta Papa Jack was walking around with his chest puffed thought a little bit. It was good. Well, let me I gotta tell you the story though, we're at the gym. And when Jim and I when I go to the game by myself. I'm rather quiet. I really am. I just kind of sit and watch. But when we get together. I mean, it's unbelievable. I mean, the coaching that goes on loose ball. Bog get in front getting from an coaching going on. So one of the Ponant parents down the end kind of whispered to me at one point during the game is you know, coaching is not permitted from the parents. It's nice. Oh, what's what's penalty? What's going to happen? They say well, the referee will warn you one time. And then after that, they they could possibly ask you to leave the gym. And I mentioned to Jim Jim they if they warn us one time, and we continue they're going to ask us to leave the gym to which Jim said, well, they haven't warmed this yet. We have a license to continue. Fled Shama gate. Sean McGhee sons team that day. Miles heads the baskets. We were trying to get them over to our team the. The polar bear showed up. We only have four players and the hawks head pray about twelve or fifteen players know, I'm interruption you here. But I gotta tell you the hawks were second graders. Now the pullover first graders in Saint Francis. So it started they came in. And they saw their plan each trash talk on. I mean back and forth. I'm you know, it was like like like the big guys. I mean going on that we were in a little cafeteria. Go ahead. Well. It was the second graders at Saint Francis. Had the Sodano boys. The the McGee boys were over there. And we were we were willing at four and and they coach has got together. Yeah. You can you're going to then. Jack harbaugh. Steph said it goes, okay? Well, we'll we'll take number twenty four. We'll take. Mcgee. Boy we wanted him on our team. And then we still go ahead. Well, the coach the coach of the hawk said, no we're going to it doesn't work like we'll rotate a player over to your side of of our choosing. So we lost our first negotiation in in that game before they went out on on the floor felt pretty good though..

"If not time for the first attack. Stay the Harbaugh's podcast twenty nineteen th great back here. Another year the podcast bring to you here on podcast one. I'm your guide IRA wind chill. We've got coach Jim Harbaugh here. Coach Jack Harbaugh here director of recruiting Matt Dudek is here as well. Happy new year guys. Welcome back coach you've been a little bit in the last couple of weeks. He's like, you don't there's no time to breathe you guys. You've been busy. Yes. Very very much. So. As as there was new coaches to hire of look at it as a tremendous opportunity to to make the team better. And one of the one of my big jobs is making sure that one hundred forty players on the team have the best possible coaches that we we can have and really pleased a lot of work, but really is has paid off and feel like we're in a great spot with with some of our new coaching hires and. And also get in the mid year settled in eight eight eight new guys really have been gungho really really excited. I know I talked talked a couple of weeks ago about some of their crews we had coming in. And which is like, you know, and like their football character like their their their character. As as individuals and claybon green is telling me that every guy has been twenty to thirty minutes early for each class that they've had say they started orientational last Tuesday. But. Moved moved. Everybody into the dorms on Sunday and had a great get together. Here Chen Boeckler hall with the families and the and the youngsters and, you know, it happened that moment happened where they had to actually drop them off in the car had to leave and they had the parents to look in the rear view mirror and see this is the first time that the sun isn't coming with them. And the first time that the sun is watched that car drive away. And and they weren't in it since since then, it's you know, it's been one week in one day and have really liked the way our eight year year players are spent so much time around sham alcohol. You know, it's it's their friend and Kate and Eric Kate McNamara. Eric all Zach Chardonnay they've all been doing a lot of work around shebek hall. They've been throwing cage really been organizing guys to go out. They're also Jalen Perry's been out thrown and doing defensive back drills. Mikey, Sandra sills is out there catching and and playing and Mazi Smith, you know, just been chomping at the bit to get into the weight room, and he finally got into the the weight room, and he is strong. He is strong. Ben Herbert's already already talking about that. And and gave Newburgh. The the same way just just outstanding competitor. And you know, just these guys got I mean, they really have always I coined this phrase couple of weeks back. Can I got it from one of the recruits they said they're coming here to make Michigan great to make themselves. Great. And that's about all you can ask for they all they they're getting along good together. They never have a greater opportunity is the as the seven other mid years at they come in with that group of eight have each other. They have that. And there are team within this football team, which is a team within the university which but they've done a great job recognize it, they move. They move together. They get the class early the together and the room together. It's the dynamic has been really good. We've been been hiring coaches that's been really good and. You know, so far, you know, everything is really go positive my vision, you know, there's two factors to this vision. The first vision is four years down the road for years from now, we're celebrate a national championship team. No be two or three all Americans on that national championship team. And they'll be standing as one of them is being presented the Heisman Trophy..

"I think it's a good one to coin. Best defense is a good office. Why didn't quit that? Support are beautiful thing. We've brought Irish although our way of thinking about football what a futile moment this shit hours. Want us? I appreciate that. Appreciate that. So I I'm going to here's my scattered impromptu a lot of scouting. But I mentioned this earlier in the show, but coach you guys had official visits in the guys. Go to basketball games. I'd like to I give Matt Dudek credit. I don't know everything that's in it. But that food box on believable. Michigan man box is unbelievable. Just a Turkey leg alone. But that missed that food boxes treat the recruits so well at the games, and then you have your director of recruiting go out there with the canon the t shirt cannon, and he's behind it. And it's like, you a giant Gatling gun kind of thing is it rotates around the shirts, and he's aiming it at this. And he I mean, you have to take us through what it's actually like it was it was fun to watch. I watch him come up there. I'm like, I'm telling my mom and my dad would watch your watching with the good that was it was pretty fun. It was I asked the marketing girl there. I was like, hey, what am I gonna do to shoot this gun? She said talked to Kurt wise and Bach, and she probably just wanted to dismiss me. She didn't know who I was and nor nor. Anybody know, and I was like, okay, great. So I call Kurt Mike, can I shoot the Catling gun teaser gone. Here's Janet just got on there and get trained. It was like, okay. So she comes over I go out on their. She goes. Okay. Now, listen, you have to pull both handles press the bun make sure it's in the air. I because this thing fires office and power. Like, we gotta make sure we got cocked up. Okay. Great. And you get behind it. I mean it sums it throws compressed air. I mean, we were shooting to the top of the top of the arena, and it would get the very last row tolerated. Very last row. It was it was and it was coming out thumping we had a little malfunction in the back. So we had to shoot off one of the one of the shirts in the back and it came out. It was like four and you heard it hit the wall. Like, if it hit somebody it can hurt, you know. And I don't think it's full power in the arena because they said at the stadium if they took it onto the flight to the around the site on the field. I think they could go up at our all back out of the stadium gives you an idea of how far shoot I mean. It's four cannisters of the banners at Chrysler without question. They've hit the banners across a lot of fun. Appreciate them. Letting me do that. It was kind of a joke. And then it kind of I was out there doing it, which is pretty awesome. And I've never caught one of the t-shirt. I've always wanted to get a t shirt come out of the gun. I had a couple of games ago. I was talking to a friend in the chillers right in front of a cut one. I just want like this. I said, hey, and the cheater happened to see me go like that. So he goes sure and he tossed toss. Yeah. That's like a hand toss in baseball. I caught a minor league baseball. Minor league baseball game in two so on. There was only twenty two people in the stand. So, but I did t-shirt I've been close when you sit up in the in the upper left really shoot, the they and you get a chance you're I've been close have not gone a t-shirt. So what about a puck? But they got netting all that jazz. They there's prevention that goes on that nobody wants. Coming at him in a hockey game. I don't wanna have to catch on. It's over Joost. "I'm your guide IRA one back in his office as coach Jim Harbaugh. Coach great to see how great to see you. It's great to have you back here. Coach Jack Harbaugh is on the phone. He is out in Baltimore. So we're going to talk to him. He's on the phone. Joining us director of recruiting Matt Dudek who is a master on the t shirt cannon. He is with us today. And he is here. And of course, coordinating producer McKinsey calls here as well. We're gonna talk to Dave granola little bit later on the podcast. He is the head athletic trainer here at Michigan football hoping to talk to Josh Johnson as well getting his first career win in his twelve team. He's playing Washington and got a big win over Jacksonville over the weekend. It was terrific. And I immediately think of USD in the toreros and conversations you've had about Joshua the past. I thought it was a phenomenal win for him. And what a great milestone in his career. Yeah. Chits talked to Justice this morning. And he was so excited. We're so excited formulas my one of my very first quarterbacks. And played for USD in two thousand and he was a starter two thousand five two thousand six in two thousand seven still in the National Football League. And and winning games. It was it's great to see isn't that great debt on land. My all time all time favorite players. What a what a personality. I remember. I I I I bet he'd be with about six hundred four or five lead about one hundred and fifty five pounds three came to San Diego, and he had his hat kind of chilled. It onto the side over one of his I and I walked up, and I said, let me just tell you a little coaching here. Let me just take that half and straighten it out for and every single time. I mean, we run into him here in Baltimore where he respond with the Bengals we run into him at different places when he's playing at while before the game, and I would sit him, and he would take the hat that I was wearing and kill. He said hit worse. The first time was he you always remember that it always it still going to smile on my face we play forces in San Francisco as well. And talk about a guy who's got it. You know, who that it factor has that he is always had it. And it was never quite got the six four six five. He was we first met him. He was about six one one sixty five one seventy when we first met him out of the Oakland tech, highschool, tremendous competitor. And hopefully, we'll get them on the show today. And we also got a family birthday today. Dead. Trevor December seventeen now hit eight or nine years old for Katie. Katie is eight years old today. Happy birthday, Katie awesome. "He is in the profession. Yeah. There's times we're Sean will reposition his body not being able to see the running back behind him. But knowing where the running back is going to go, by the way, the spatial awareness. Yeah. The way the play is developed Matt Dudek wants to say, this is absolutely amazing sitting here. Jack said these exact same words off the air before we started. He talked about Sean, and we're just going back and forth a little bit. And you described it to the same words that coached did. I mean, I'm sitting here. Just like in awe like put the seat. It's not just this game. Yeah. I remember the long run that shape. Patterson had on the option that you rent was Wisconsin. If you go and he was out leading and he blocked a guy and ran him down the field. And then he knew he saw shit. He felt shea behind him. Let that block go known that he had him beat and went on down to field and got another block and Pentagon on the sideline at same awareness at you're talking about that arc blocked that he does he has to make a decision whether. To block the end or go up to to the second level. He's got he's got to make the decision. We'll shea beat that end. Or does he need the block him? So he can get an an extra hat on on a linebacker. That's going to be up field. And he he makes the right decision darn there. Every time there's times where he takes it even a step further. And this is like AP stuff if you're in school where they call it advanced placement blocking where he will just screen that defensive end and still get up on the linebacker take care of the defensive end with us to screening of his body, not commit himself to making the block, but bypassing them. But no one he still needs to get locked and screen him. You know with the side of his body and still get out ahead of shea, and the one you're talking about in the Wisconsin game that was that was amazing because he had to take care of a linebacker at the line of scrimmage made that blocks now Shays out in front of him by a good tenure. But by the end of the the seventy eight yard run, he's he had caught up to shit and was able to screen. A secondary player off that. I mean, he's got hustle to write hustle and speed speaks was rolling on uninterrupted. You mentioned my shrine more. I was here the day. He had the interview when he came in for the interview and the only one I really was a part of it. It was not a two and a half hour interview. And when when it was all over I thought to myself in coaching you find guys that are that are kind of tunnel vision. Sometimes they this coach or that coach, and they're focused in on this and focused in on this. And they don't as you grow older coaching experience. You Brian yourself out to where you see the total picture. There's a young man that understands a total picture at this young age. He really does. And you see it in the things we're talking about with with a tight ends. You see that in his coaching progression..

"So here we are guys. And last week. We got a ton of responses on Twitter from last week. I just want to read through these with you guys. The first one came in from baseball Addy, fifty one another great show with Dan, Patrick and amazing. Jack, talk is always always nice to hear that. Then we got a tweet from Brady straightened Berger said had no idea there. Was a Harbaugh. Sleaze stir connection nothing like hearing, a mention of Washington court house on the podcast hashtag small hashtag hometown. And that of course, was your recruiting territory when you're when you're hurting visited there, and I don't know if I'm sure there's been other prospects come out of there. But archly stir may be the finest football prospect ever come out of that city. I would imagine we've got a tweet here from Kennedy Golo thirty said meet Sadie rose Golo born November six at four seventeen pm weighing in at seven pounds twelve ounces nineteen inches long included a picture, and Jim very importantly, he said and let your dad know an eighteen and a half inch. Nice. She again, she was nineteen inches long and an eighteen and a half inch wingspan. So that's all we need to stretch her out just a little more wingspan should be great. I guessing on the picture. Her fingers will be somewhat curled. He needs to get one side and get someone on the other side and stretch those fingers out so we get that on their their length. There's a question there's a question for you. What sport would it be better to have a shorter wingspan wrestling wrestling, I don't know that golf, maybe maybe maybe often these I think if you're really getting wingspan, and I've seen people with shorter arms. You know, be playing other sports, I think sinking soccer to soccer make a difference sock right signing pie. You've got to be more torquing your body to make an kick sharply through Keene crew, you'd want everybody the same. All right. Matt dudek. Very good, swimming, certainly want long arm that long basketball. We know that you have preferred to have preferred to have longer arms the football. There's no offensive lineman offense lineman. Get turned down anybody tackling. It's better to have longer arms..

"Patrick, how are you. Doing really well. We've got coach Harbaugh here that Jack Harbaugh here. Matt Dudek is here's well and got to tell Patrick. We got to give a match shirt here. It kind of someone explained to Patrick about what Matt's where met Matt. Maybe you could describe it. Well, pipe coury bud, I'm good. How are you? I'm doing great. I am wearing a wonderful shirt. I found on the internet last year. I'm sure you've seen it a million times by now. Has you pointing to the fence as him s'mores and hot dogs on it. Nice, wow, nice little button up, you know. So I'm as you can probably tell by our emails back and forth and me reaching out to you. Obviously, I'm a big fan of yours, especially in that movie. And so yes, I, when I saw this last summer, I definitely bought it representing all that is great about ham. Well, I think that you're talk. It's the light blue on the light blue on. Yes, yes, that's. That's the one that the Roosevelt's company makes and they're actually they're kind of the higher end version of the shirts. That's the one I think Aaron judge was wearing a couple years back to it was yes, I have a much different body type than Aaron judge does. Matt, don't we all. So the voice you, here's Patrick Renna and we're, of course talking about the movie, the sandlot the twenty fifth anniversary of the sandlot actually debuted April seventh nineteen Ninety-three don't REM. Remember. The movie was set in one thousand nine hundred sixty two San Fernando Valley. And I think the most important part and no offense you Patrick. But the most important part is the man on the other side of the fence is more importantly known in these parts as the guy who says, this is the greatest university in the world. James Earl Jones. Really. I did not know that. Did he? Did he go there? Yes, he did. Why did he play? Was he? Was he one of the play for the wolverines? No, he was. He was in the theater school. Okay. How he's a bigger guy. So I could've seen him being like, I don't know, maybe a tight end or something did did. Did you didn't act with him much in the movie? You know, I wish I did. We didn't. There was originally a scene written. For all of the guys and James Earl Jones, but the could do to time. And I think you know, he was only there for a day, the director just kind of straps, the scene and then had the the to lead guys do the scene with him. So we got to meet him and say, Hello. And he, he told one of the guys who came up to him and said, oh, you're Darth Vader, and he said, no, I am your father. Kind of like the kind of like the story I read about Jack Nicholson and a few good men that he, he wasn't there on the set that long, but I think he wanted to did he went into kademi award for supporting actor. Yeah, I've heard that too. I think it was the the like broker record at the time for the screen time or the least amount of filming needed to win an Oscar or something. I think I heard that too. All right. So let's go back because this is the twenty fifth anniversary, and you guys have had an opportunity to celebrate your day show earlier this year, you had a reunion at Dodger Stadium where they then showed the movie on the screens at the stadium, which must have been pretty cool as well. But let's go back twenty five plus years ago and just talk about putting this movie together from your obviously a lot younger than and being in that movie movie, maybe you didn't quite realize what it was going to turn into this cult classic that now you can find t shirts and other shirts all over the place..

"What you were defending son, and then you just kind of drew. That was, he just took the no didn't quite didn't have the rebuttal back. It'd be persisted and come back with the argument. There you go. You never strong enough count on Well, oil. he He will welded. in the next one. One thing I will say. We've got another one. We've got an, I don't know. I don't know if we can announce it though. You know, sometimes they don't mind the only one knows this. We got another. We've got another got one a couple more coaches at have have them into, are we allowed to think one for sure is is public. Will you be the one because I'm not going to be. I don't wanna get partridges. We're talking about, yes, Borchert where you just let the cat out of that boy. Oh, boy, always, Matt Dudek. Sorry. I'm so sorry. Mersa. Well, she's showing I think people are win. Imagine coach partures there in February, and then Kelly king who is on our front desk. She's also I believe, February from that mistake for number two number two for Kanter and list Tanner, thank you. I didn't know if that one was public. So I was holding out one a little bit. Jacquard ball, I believe they're February-March also. So when we had that Easter party here last year, and that's really the first time, the new staff and everybody all the kids. I mean, there was fifty kids down there and we decided six more for next Easter. So we're, we're rolling. We may have to cut this out, but I know what Bo Shem Becker be saying right now we aren't working near a hard enough. That's where he would go with. Stay right in, but I will take this batch just football here. It's not just academics at the, that's that's the direction, family family coach. And I've talked about the daycare open them in a daycare across the street. We've even had that conversation over dinner. So Overeen you know, you have the bo- class. You have the, you have the gym class. You have the ios class. You have the different classes, each age group, the Bo would be the, maybe the infants. I don't know. I mean, we, we figure. Harbach come in and teach a class a. Luli we did one of those seven thirty staff meetings here. We'd you sitting around the table, says guys, what hell are we. It's been a lot of fun this week. Needless to say in the in the building with the great news that has happened in on the football field as well. And I'm still waiting to find out and maybe I have to reach a call myself to find that I swim coach hasn't gotten a phone call from the track team asking if Ben Mason his time to hurdle for the. I mean that that tells you how good of a game it was that we, we said, how great the guys played. Ben Mason's hurtling over a guy was not referenced. Be watts, pick six was not. So that's how great of a game that we had. I've never seen a guy that big hurdle. Those pretty cool what the moment for me going back to the seventies in John Wang Lurs quarterback at the time that I was here and watching the great throw against Indiana and to watch Jared Wang, learn, lose more that touchdown, not an easy catch. I mean, he had to lay out and he had to extend his arms into in the end zone and then to watch him jump off the turf. I mean, as a father that had gone through here and then he scored that touchdown that had to be one of the great moments. I know for me and I certainly know for the wingless. Oh, it was incredible. So we are a story on this. Forget, do we have time you go ahead so I- couple things to rest of the story there, Texas, Jared, and John later that's this that EBay said, what's it been?.

"Resonated on TV, triples one, Kerry true. Was audible on the television of the that. That's what came through a lot of times chance because the analysis are talking to, you know, kinda gets muffled on the sound, cheering and booing kind of you kind of get lost. 'cause you're not sure who they're doing. What for. The true Wilson. True was very audible and on the phantom penalty, whatever you wanna call it on the most horrific penalty I've ever seen called on Kron higgin. You could hear the booth come through and that wasn't those were audible boos and you could pick up on those. I didn't hear the go blue chance. I heard a lot of booing when Michigan with doing good things, and so the Michigan fans were cheering. So I could hear the booing from the northwestern fans coming over here. But the true Wilson one, I'll sit and watch the game and I'm like, I haven't reading my notes, kind of like when when generate a great catch on the sideline and Matt Dudek s- right there on TV doing the catch sign. Put that in my notes, decided Wilson thing happened. I'm like, that's really audible. That was really cool. I mean, just incredible. And the Michigan fans never cease to amaze me and I get I'm relatively new being in my second season and you hear about it, you grow up seeing it. You hear the boche mbacke Lurs and the gym are balls and the Brian gracie's and the and all the great players that have been here and touching the banner. We've talked about before. But that those traditions and those fans and that alumni base manned you did, I just feel it in Chicago on Saturday. It's a great point, and and you know, on the sidelines of players that players feel? Oh, yeah. I mean, you know, you're on the road and here you're getting this kind of support from your fans that have followed you. They haven't. They haven't given up on you. You didn't play well as well as you'd like in the first half there could be people that are leaving people that are that are showing their their concern for the way your plan, but that was not the case players fed on that and had a great deal to do with the comeback in the second half. No. Question four and one on the season two in league play, we're going to talk a little bit about the ravens coming up at the end of the show in hashtag Jack talk. Did you know that sixty six percent of men lose their hair by age thirty five. And the thing is when you start to notice hair loss, it's too late. Is that a hairline slowly started to move backwards? I'm gonna look in the mirror and say check and he bought spots yet. Check again. How will you feel a year from now. It's business as usual up there. So this is what we ask. Do you wanna ball spot the pop up, or do you want to do something about it? I do. You want your hairline to recede, or do you want to do something about it? I why guys turn to weird solutions or do nothing at all when they can turn the medicine and science. I've been asking these questions for years and until now didn't have a solution for me..

"I'd like to ask you about a mutual respect. They we have for for coaching. That's Jimmy Haycock. I was at western Kentucky university for fourteen years one AA football, and became familiar with the coaches. Tell me a little bit about what's he been there for thirty thirty five years coaching that same school with within tastic success. You know, his commitment to that place is taught me a lot about the right approach in this business. You know, code Laycock has been there since nineteen eighty man. He was an eleven year guy when I was there, the freshmen. I, I'm marble added man. We talked a few weeks back, you know, he, he's been an encouragement to me. I feel guilty sometimes calling on it because I've drawn from that well, so much, but I'm gonna keep drawing long as he willing. What years were you there? Coach. From ninety to ninety four as a player and Costa Laycock and maintain a close relationship throughout whenever I've had a significant decision to make from a career standpoint, he's always been a guy that I've called on and cleaned advice from, and I'm appreciative that I think we all have those in our in our rear view mirror. Those that stood tall and who shoulders we stand on. So I have you to respect for him. So what was the conversation like when you called him and said that you were being offered an opportunity to be the third head coach in many, many years in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he, he just laughed. Kind of follow my coaching journey, and I think it's kind of been amusing him 'cause I've been blessed really fortunate and he said, that's about right, that sounds about right. You know, I think he was thinking amused by it at that point. But you know, he's, he's always been a supporter. He understands that the mindset that I have about these opportunities and and and what I'm willing to do in terms of making sure it's done and done right when you got that call from Pittsburgh and you know the history, obviously Chuck knoll takes over and sixty. Nine cower comes into ninety. Two to know when you look around the league, you see so many just coming and going and coming and going. You were given an opportunity to organization. What is it about that organization that makes it so unique that they don't push coaches out? If you have say one or two down years, I really think it comes from ownership, the Rooney, family, man. This is their family business. They've been in the thirties and man. They, they know what it is they're doing. They know what it is they look for, and I think that that allows them to be steady. Sometimes when things are. Them aren't so steady and there's a resolve and commitment there that's unique. And when you work for men like that in families like that, all you wanna do is perform form. I appreciate the environment that I'm in from that standpoint, but by no means I've taken for granted. I understand that the proof is in the pudding and I'm trying to deliver for those guys each and every year and this year. Obviously my focus is on eighteen hundred. Amazing thing. I was here with Beauchemin Becker back nine hundred seventy three to seventy nine. And we had those Ohio State Michigan type football games and the and Morty ten year war that that they had. And now I see you and John Pittsburgh and and Baltimore would be much like those Michigan, Ohio state games. And I think that's what makes professional football and college football. So unique are those relationships and those great rivalries echoes this really public to be a part of. That's why I've always loved big blue coast college ball years ago. I've work. At Michigan camp that had opportunities to meet Costa Boeckler coast car. Those guys, they just really, I just really love what big blue was about in in Florida to it as as early as from cozy perspective, all ever wanted to do was that coach at Michigan man and get a little house off the state three somewhere. Forty, how how some guy got different plans. Isn't that true. Places places that it takes us. Record that Matt Dudek and you gonna put that in writing?.
