"I wanted to get to you matt. You mentioned earlier your podcast that you do with ryan ellis and i've listened to it. I think it's great. It's a unique perspective called. Not another racing podcast. Just give folks who may not have heard about the podcast or just want to know a little bit more about what was really the genesis behind wanting to do something like that. Yeah it was actually ryan. Ellis's idea he brought it to me and at first i was not sure but then the more i got thinking about it. I was like man that would be a great way to connect with fans. I'm on social media. Probably not as hard. Or as i used to be because i also see how social media can be is is pretty toxic for a lot of people. You know There can be some good from it but at the end of the day i would let my kids beyond their so I so that that's where i got thinking i was like man. This could be really neat and bring another element packed with fans in a very cool way. And if we're going to do it. I was like i don't wanna be just another racing podcast no pun intended but you know so our angle was basically we want to get to know people personally. You know their personal lives what they do. What shapes them. What are their values. What makes them who they are the grow up. You know what's important them in life Those are the things that i enjoy getting. No doubt people in that we. We probably need a little bit more of because When we talk about these types of things You get different reactions out of people versus when you ask questions like a tells about bristol. You know they'll give you a pretty robotic answer Someone can ask me about. Hey how's your dog bryant or something you know like i'll be like oh great you get a disaster answer so that's pretty much what we why we do it and why we have that sort of angle what we want to get to know about people personally and then also knows outlet for me to share. I shared it very extremely personal story on the last episode. So that the need to have that connection with people you get to engage you get to share people to hear more from you. So are you getting everything out of it that you would have hoped. Are you enjoying it or is it doing what you hoped it would do yet. I think it's a continuing to grow them. So especially last one had an amazing viewership and that was pretty is pretty neat to see the reaction that we got from sharing a personal story. Like like i did be. I think it's just going to continue to grow. We're talking right now about. What is the data to the next level grown a lot more so it started off just as something you know. I didn't want it to be like a job on him to be fun. So that's it's we started off just doing it a little bit and get our feet wet. Cf we enjoyed. It had some fun in. Its started to grow more than expected. And so that's really great. We're excited about the future or that takes us matt. I appreciate the time is always good. Luck the rest of the season. You mentioned that you made the crew chief change so hopefully like you said that can just spark something. Get you guys rolling. But i appreciate the time..

"When did that really start becoming something that you focused on. I would say a few years ago when i had my crew. Chief randy cox was very big zoo fitness working out in his former military guy and the hilo exercise stuff exercise science us extremely knowledgeable so he kinda reshaped my thinking on a lot of that stuff so i big credited him. I think Joining when i started doing cross bet here. You know our place that we go to the great friends with the owner and Across the valley here. And they're very smart and tactful about what they do. It's not what some people think when they have thing cross it like we're going and abusing ourselves. It's not our taxable what we do. It's functional fitness. Meant to be mentally tough and apply to rely to feel good. Be functionally fit things like that. So i think between low crew chief randy and starting cross fit in shaping my perception on physical fitness. I think all those things really allowed me to hone in on it to be the best. I could be behind the wheel more things for you before i let you go. I wanted to ask. How did it feel to be in the broadcast booth a couple of weeks ago. You did the arca race and i think you said you rookie. That's the first time. I believe you've done something like that. How did it feel to be up there yet. Actually is really good. I enjoyed it a lot. I wanted to do that to the need for my sponsor. Menards in the arkham nerd. Serious aspen do it in a fox jamie little up on five bill for vox booth to join them. So that was neat. And i'd been wanting to do it anyways because i like new challenges and that was different in it gives you a greater appreciation for what they do and how perfect they are. I mean like jamie. Little's like the the i was when i'm sitting there and i'm trying to do all this period. How good she is. How right on time. She is with somebody talking to inner ear and counting down as far as when we're gonna commercial and how she makes it all flow so naturally i was like i mean she's like the dossier of the kevin harvick. Goes you know of this there. The veteran of this stuff you know just shows like wow. She's the driver of doing those. Those people that do those things on them booth all so good at. Its are related to like cup drivers. That are champions in that element..

"A better human being. I mean they make you better person because you are what you're surrounded by. Say this all the time and so when you're surrounded by that and you gain them as family and we talk all the time. every week. I talked to nancy with all the time. She sent me a book. Actually we talk about personalized stuff. You know their family. And that is the coolest part because you they make me my wife All of us just better human beings in life and their examples how you should treat people In life and so those are the coolest parts about driving for them is how amazing of human beings that they are. The team has probably one of the best twitter accounts out there. Because of the way in which john goes about tweeting. Does it ever make you crack up. Do you ever see. Maybe some of the ways that he tweets about the race in just kind of how he handles just being blunt with the fans. Yes john is the best. I'm really glad he handles yuccas band. It's so much more fun to be like. Oh this guy real tweet and really motions of what's going on and no no bones about it. So yeah that's i love watching their twitter feed. While before i drove for the relatives i always followed the twitter feed. Because i love. I love there yet. John's honesty there. Does it makes you crack up. Just how straightforward he is about. What's going on. He'll tell you if we we shocked to that it's not so this is a lie about it doesn't try to make it all professional. It's like hey people can really with that. i like. they're you out. I mean why sugarcoated this is. What's happening circling back to race car. Things another topic that has stood out over the last two years or so is that the cars are really really hot and we heard that even just this past weekend as we talk coming off the all star race. A lot of the driver is all. We're all talking about. Man is one of the hottest i've been. I wanted to ask you because you of course work out so you do cross fit in you really in. I would say in shape and take care of yourself. But how much does the heat still affect you. I mean is it noticeable. How hot these race cars have been. Yes especially the race like texas holy cow. After just the open race. I was holy cow. I sweat a ton. But i you know i think obviously mental toughness is a big thing physical fitness and preparedness as a big thing. But it's more so the longer you do it. You learn how you need to be arrested and recovered and feeling really good on race day at super hydrated and i actually feel better in race car being people talk about me being a little bit bigger than some of the drivers. Actually feel a little bit better. I've been one hundred and seventy something house in the race car before..

"At Road America. After Denny Hamlin's off track excursion, he was able to fall back in line in the 16th position. He does have some grass covering up those break openings to try to keep the brakes cool at the front of the race car will wait and see if that's going to affect things and make the temperatures rise. There could create a major issue for Denny Hamlin as we continue. Under the green flag. Seven laps to go this time by in stage number two. Matt DiBenedetto is the race leader. Let's pick him up on the race course. Here he comes now. Back into Canada. Corner Turn number 12, Matt DiBenedetto off. And he's got Austin Cindric right behind him. Kyle Busch is in third position and then Martin Truex Jr headed up the hill making their way off of turn number 13 right now, Matt Di Benedetto, leading by two car lengths over Austin, Cindric. You've got to drop a little bit further back to the multi coloured Skittles Toyota Camry of Kyle Busch into the right hander. In turn, 14 Martin Truex Jr and William Byron are your top five. They go up the hill seven laps to go on Stage number two. Matty D over. Austin Cindric, Kyle Busch. True X, Byron Reddick, Larson and Chase Elliott. That is your top nine. Then you get back to a pretty good battle there. Steve Poster you've got Ross Chastain. You've got Bubba Wallace Kurt Busch in a J. Allmendinger and headed your way, making their way down the hill into turn number one. Ross Chastain leads this quartet of drivers. Chastain is there Kurt Busch, about four car lights behind a. J. Allmendinger, a couple car, legs back, and Joey Logano trying to close the gap as well. At the moment, they're all going to remain in single file as they work their way through Turn Number three. Chase Elliott apply about five over Chastain, another five to Kurt Busch. He's got a hip pocket full of the A. J. Allmendinger machine than five more to Logano. Meanwhile, battle for the lead Austin Cindric is called Matt to Benedetto on breaking into five. Benedetto slips coming out of five there up the hill and their nose to tail for the point. Absolutely filling the mirrors, and Matt DiBenedetto is the rookie Austin Cindric. He gets a good drive off of turn number six and down the hill into turn seven. The battle for the lead rages down to hurry down opportunity to make a move here and Cindric is going to do that. He's going to look to drivers left at the Benedetto Di Benedetto rips the wheel to his left. Cuts it off right there. They'll stay back single file about a half a car length separation between the two. Watching it all from the third spot is Kyle Busch. Also Martin Truex Jr behind him, William Byron, and then the top six has pulled their way out, trailed by Tyler Reddick. Matt DiBenedetto lost a lot of his advantage a lap ago, right here in the kink when all the leaders caught the slower car of Quinn half Half right in the groove at the Benedetto was running through the kink lost a lot of his advantage down to a car length Now as he's trying to hang onto the top spot with Austin Cindric right there lurking Cindric has caught the race leader question Now, What can he do with him? He's going to try to go to drivers left. That's not the preferred line back into turn, 12. Now he has to slam the door quickly because Kyle Busch is right there. Now making that a three way shuffle for the lead headed uphill battle for the lead continues lap ago. Brad Keselowski looping around in turn number 14. He was able to fire back up and keep going. Here come the three leaders Matt DiBenedetto, Austin Cindric and Kyle Busch into the right hander. In turn, 14. They're all space, depart by one car length in the battle for the lead, going up the hill to Ford Mustangs one Toyota Camry as they climb the hill. Third gear. Now they'll grab fourth gear and reached the highest speed on the race course. The battle for the race lead goes to turn one making their way down into turn number one. Matt Di Benedetto tries to block to the right sides. Austin Cindric goes to the left side. Cindric is they're they're side by side. They bounce off each other wheel to wheel off turn number two few laps ago, Matt DiBenedetto was able to bypass Cindric for the lead. Austin Cindric now returns the favor. He'll drive around the outside, in turn Number three. He's going to take Kyle Busch with him. So in the length of about a corner and a half Matt DiBenedetto goes from number one to P three. Heading downhill he won is Austin centric new leader. He's trying to get out of dodge. He's trying to get away from Kyle Busch lap car directly ahead. Here. They come down the hill into five. Now it's Austin Cindric. It will overshoot five. He's off the course. Kyle Busch is there to pounce centric pulls the car back up onto the race track and they're side by side for the lead quite fit, lead its three cars under a blanket through turn six. Kyle Busch has the advantage on the left hander Austin Cindric locks up the brakes. He's going to give up the second spot to Mata Benedetto. Here comes Matt the Benedetto. He'll go to drivers right of Cindric also Martin Truex Jr. Tyler Reddick as well. Cindric will fall back outside the top five because here comes William Byron. He's all over the back bumper. Now Austin Cindric. He will loop it coming off the turn Number eight. He'll spin it down to the inside on the grass. Austin Cindric grabs a gear tries to fire it back up, He will pull away. But Austin Cindric goes from first all the way to the back end of the top 20 and the race leaders already out of the carousel approaching turn number 11. It's Kyle Busch at the front of the field. Good stack up from second on back Matt DiBenedetto Martin Truex Jr is there as is Tyler Reddick than a large gap back to fifth place running William Byron Kyle Busch has opened up on the race lead. He has gotten away by five car lengths coming back into Canada corner turned 12 and then Matt DiBenedetto who's throwing the block on Martin Truex Jr. True X looking down toward the inside uphill from the back of the field to the front. Kyle Busch, your new race leader. Off turn 13. The battle is on for second Matt Di Benedetto under pressure from Martin Truex Jr. He's all Overman turned 14 in the right hander Tyler Reddick also joining this three car fight for the second spot. So we watch them as they make their way up the hill and pass the start finish line. Cindric with a bold, bold move to take the lead just a lap ago, and now all of a sudden he is a non factor. It's Kyle Busch. Then Matty, D. Truax, Radic and William Byron. I think the question might be when he went off track couple thoughts here one cutting down a tire, which doesn't appear to be the case. And you've got another thought. Yeah, just fired by observing what's going on. Getting off the racecourse with the right rear tire as he's applying pressure on the accelerator spinning those wheels, the right rear spinning like crazy in the dirt when it catches on the asphalt. That is a sure way to break an axle. So I'm wondering, maybe did Austin.

"At the front of the field to correlate over map, the Benedetto five more back to Kyle Busch than that battle from 51 back beginning to shape up towards Canada corner all of that traffic on the downhill run and now under braking into turn number 12 Canada Corner. Austin Cindric, the race leader, But Matt Di Benedetto is right there pressuring him every step of the way. Cindric making his way up the hill. Now swings wind coming off of turn number 13. Matt DiBenedetto is right there. All over his back bumper as they go down the hill into the right hander in turn, 14 Foreign Mustang and a Ford Mustang battling for the race lead depended dental taps him a little bit coming off the corner. Right now. It is a 22 year old driver out of Moore's Ville, North Carolina, flying the team Penske colours Ford Mustang at the front of the field. That is Austin Cindric right behind him at the Benedetto. That's the battle for the lead and wine. Benedetto picks the drivers right to the inside needs to talk back in line. So Austin Cindric, Matt de better than Oh, Kyle Busch, about five callings after back bump off the back bumper and third, Kyle Busch trying to close the gap. Now on that lead pair again to Benedetto sneaks a peek to the inside as a racing through the right hand turn number three. He has to fall back in line, at least for the moment. But Matt to Benedetta, working hard on the back bumper of the leader, Austin Cindric. That's the Benedetto making Austin Centrex life very difficult right now. As a brace for the downhill run into turn Number five. Benedetto's got company Here's Kyle Busch. Busch will sneak a peek cannot make the move in the left hander instead. Bush will follow the Benedetto out of five and up the hill under the Corvette Bridge. Cindric on the brakes. He's got a two car length advantage is now Kyle Busch makes it a three way fight for the lead. They've got about five car lengths. Now on the fourth place running. Martin Truex Jr off the right hurt. Right hand. Turn Number seven. Working their way down. Hurry down.

"Kyle Busch. Goodbye, everybody else that didn't take very long. Kyle Larson to the point. They'll go side by side for position number two Bush to the outside Erica Merola downstairs in fourth. Right now, you've got Cole Custer. Faces an immediate challenge from Joey Logano. Logano will pull out of blind race wheel to wheel with Matt DiBenedetto looking on Benedetto trying to figure out which Lane will advance for the moment. Neither one Logano hugging the bottom of the racetrack up off of turn for cold customer gets the bums rush. He'll now be put in the rear View mirror puts the block on immediately on Matty D just behind them. Hendrick Motorsports teammates go side by side, Alex Bowman opens up the inside line pulls to the inside of Chase Elliott closer to the front, Eric al Merola of the racetrack. Here's Kyle Busch. He'll dive to the bottom. Bush to second. Al Merola to third, and he'll fall immediately into the clutches of Logano. Rusty Wallace. It almost looks like these drivers are tiptoeing through one and two and three and four. As we see driver's just skating up the track. Definitely turn one and two is definitely the worst right now that rubber is not built up in that corner. And they get a little bit out of the group, which is about a group and a half from the wall, and they go slip sliding all over the place. But one driver not having a problem right now. That's Kyle Larson. I had early in the day, People ask me who's going to win this race? How can you not pull for the five car or bring him up? Because he's been so hot of late, Alex. I'm talking about Cal Larson Right now. He shot right up. The middle, took the lead, but he's not running near as high as I normally see him running. I think he's concerned. This group is not burning yet, either. No, I think you're right about that. His lead already up to a near full one second over Kyle Busch, who goes second. Then it's Eric Al Merola. Third, and Mike Bagley, 4th, 5th and 6th. They're up for grabs. That's Joey Logano, who a moment ago. Almost stuff this Ford Mustang in the infield coming out of 40 bounced off Logano or bounced off Al Merola. Car was pointed to the in field. He was able to hang on for fourth, and they're stacking up behind him. That's cold Custer and Matt DiBenedetto behind them. You've got Alex Bowman and his teammates. Chase Elliott behind Chase Elliott, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Then the Ford of Kevin Harvick. That's where the stacking up of traffic begins. Jeff That's for the ninth position where Stenhouse has that ninth spot. You've.

"His last he took advantage of a late race caution at Talladega superspeedway to get his first NASCAR Cup series win of the season and move into second place on the all time wins list at the track with seven trips to victory lane before the caution it looks like Matt DiBenedetto would cruise to the win but he dropped back on the final restart trying to defend his position and ended up in fifth because Lossky will cross the stripe of several car spun behind him in the tribal just one tenth of a second ahead of second place finisher William Byron Michael McDowell finished the race in third followed by Kevin Harvick in fourth I'm Jerry Jordan

"Bowman, who did I just say Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick as your championship for very unlikely group, but then you go to Phoenix and then it's it's game game on you know, but Harvick Joey Logano wage and and it's going to be the low downforce package there which is going to be good to it's going to be entertaining. Let's see what else we got. Matt dibenedetto with the Wood Brothers. He's coming back to the 21, sure that's cool. So happy that that was there when they announced that that was their biggest liked tweet of all time. It was it I don't know there's a part of me that feels so bad though, cuz he knows that month that this possibility he's going to have to have another ride after you know, a lot of it has to do with is what happens at Penske. Yeah. Well because Austin cindric got signed obviously and he's he's going to be fifteen and twenty Twenty-One the the to the 21 Kar well internet the 2022 sorry 2022 and the 21 car. And but that could change because you still Brad Keselowski only signed a one-year deal. So, who knows what's going to happen after that? We don't. We absolutely don't so I mean, I want to see him. I want to see Matt get that hundredth win the Wood Brothers. He's a cool. Would that be in Martinsville? Wouldn't it low mileage? And that would just picked that would be absolutely perfect idea if he could if he could roll off to three wins next year. It'd be fantastic. He has a better shot at home pain with Penske somewhere or at least Landing a quality ride, cuz he's a good dude. He works so hard all social media he works and he he's a hell of a driver hell of a drive or hell of a person great person. I've got to talk to him in person a few times just a great dude and hopefully he he land somewhere mean the influx of Team. You've got the the the Jordan Hamlet Team Stream you had Justin marks coming in with his new team and potentially even more more new blood coming in with the new car that might open up some dog. Just for him to fit in somewhere really quality ride. I really expect Chris Rice to take colic racing. Took up at some point. Did you see their announcement yesterday? I did not it's a teaser. They're going to announce today is going to have nutrients. I'm I have a feeling of full-time ride for for AJ next year. That's what it looked like what's going to happen? So yes see because what's the guy's name that he is the spotter for Clint Bowyer? Oh Bret Griffin. Yeah breaker friend. He he said I got a an announcement. Yeah, you know I supposed to do this. Have you blocked em? Yeah, but I think from what I understand Brett Griffin is the one that brought nutrient really I didn't know that's what I took it. Yeah, cuz he's he's always had the relationship with Elliott Sadler. They sponsored Elliot when Elliot was running his last two races of the year of his career. I should say what else what else happened in Kansas Quinn Huff are Quinn, how how how did I do that job? I had a great great time growing up their birth the motorcycles, you know did a little bit of you know bandolera racing but I was you know, I was driving back to Carolina every weekend race. And when I finally, you know got in the car racing but you know, the thing is I'm just like any kid growing up or or anybody out there that is trying to say something Chase the Dream especially in professional sports, you know, whether it's baseball basketball racing, you know, you name but the odds of you know, a kid being able to actually live it out. I mean, it's almost slim-to-none, you know what I mean, especially coming, you know from a small town like calling the Heights and racing is you know dead. Big in Virginia, but you know the the ne Brown I had to go my family did we just had to make the move and say Hey, you know, this is the way he's on do we rotate the screen so deadly blessed and fortunate that, you know, my career was able to take off at such an early age and get my name out there and just get rides and and getting getting the top love the sport of them. Kyle Larson Kyle Busch will be not content Kurt Busch Clint Boyer eleventh twelfth era camera all Austin Dillon thirteenth with Martin Truex junior back up the fourteenth Chris Busher fifteenth Tyler Reddick sixteen seventeenth is going to be Bubba Wallace Matt DiBenedetto eighteenth nineteenth Brad Keselowski ras casting twentieth the rest of the cars on the lead lap Denny Hamlin twenty first Ryan Preece and the twenty second spot Ricky Stenhouse junior twenty third Erik Jones twenty fourth twenty fifth Thai Dylan Hartley joy twenty sixth and twenty seventh John hunter Nemechek Pat been pretty wild on these restarts yeah it has and I got a feeling I'm gonna have to get everybody knows you can make a you know a lot of spots right here if you fall into that right line at the right place to get warmed up again working together tires it's a little bit here the Toyota supra pace car brings a run around in front of me once again these two teammates are going to get after it appear on the front row as they head to the geico restart them so here they are those twin Pennzoil Ford's making their way down the front straightaway green flags out as they make their way through the geico restart zone look on a with a slight advantage to the inside chase Elliott already makes it three wide for the third straight Philly a try to get that third position but he won't do it in fact his teammate will get the third spot as it goes to.

"Those driver hijinks well from Chevrolet to Ford let's hear a little more now from the guy who led the most laps in last year's Daytona five hundred with Dylan well and that is Matt DiBenedetto who we just heard from there the postman and Bowman but Hey at your in the wood brothers car at the Daytona five hundred what does that mean to you what are the emotions like did you get set to start this race well it's it's crazy it's hard for us to describe because a man you know I I've just I've been a NASCAR fan since I was a kid none of my family watched it never I'm a first generation guy when I first watching NASCAR burns on what you want to watch out for you so fast forward to today for me to just go out and been a fan and watch the wood brothers and so I heroes and and the history that team I would never believe do and I was just a little kid that want to be a race car driver now I'm sitting here Daytona five hundred driving the twenty one car almost legendary car the story it's just a it's almost weird because it just doesn't even seem quite real but it's so cool or such a a comparable group work but the rain so well here last year led the most laps you're in a great car again this year sports are showing a lot of speed here over the last few years what's your level of of excitement and anticipation just it to get out here and and see what you got for five hundred miles a lot especially since our car so pass the boards the parts are so so good obviously driving the legendary Motorcraft quick lane Ford Mustangs pretty good one to be behind the wheel of for this one but fortune to be faster than these things and you know I'll be honest the Daytona five hundred is it's just so crazy chaotic and so many people and the most amazing event you can ever come to but I'm glad that this is my six year full time the Cup series calms the nerves or you know like to be patient with five hundred mile race you like that thank you that's Matt DiBenedetto aboard the wood brothers number twenty one hill roll off from sixteenth today Winston let's talk to join a gonna he's gonna make as four hundred starts in the NASCAR Cup series today and had a great run on Thursday another doing victory so we know the car is good did you make any changes throughout the week since that race in anticipation of the weather conditions been different today yeah we changed a fair amount in a lot of questions about whether what the weather conditions are going to be in South Florida you never really know so you know I I feel like are we are sometimes Ford has speed I think the fords have speed even more importantly that the guy was going to work together and make this thing work so as a funny to me a lot of age the strategy the first couple stages and then I'd expect at the end of the thing I was gonna knows the Daytona five hundred with the new crew chief and Paul what's he tends to be a little bit more on the risky side than that Todd Gordon and also Payton at the entirely opposite in a pit road that we're accustomed to seeing it is that going to be an adjustment getting off a pit road and how do you just for that when you've been at the other end so much what time is it in the first four five stalls the last seventy years up deadly quite a jazz and I I told one never put it down here before is a whole New World the different zip code I think over there so we make quite a few practice rounds at it in practice making sure that that yeah I know I got you coming off the racetrack for grief I cycle that's the biggest thing is don't beat yourself and make sure that we get our style and do what we gotta do just to keep up with the our group of cars every pet without makes sense I understand the logic and I'm sure we'll be having but it doesn't I don't even need a full hand count the number of times the joy the gun hasn't been in my it's all area downpour term one he's gonna be with Ellen well but we know he can repeat has one of the quickest cars is two thousand fifteen Daytona five hundred win back to stay pose William Bryant Byron house which sold the color of the year honors Chevrolat your stature outside of the top twenty until law you're finished second Thursday night you win the race it'll just cover the what what did you learn about this racing Daytona I think just you know be at the right place at the right time been very fortunate last two races to to kind of be in that position I feel like you know a lot of its good fortune but there's a lot of skill involved in in making the right moves in a getting to the front so I think that that's what you're going to see today is a lot of lot of skill and and finesse to to be able to get to the front hopefully you're the right place and you miss the racks and and you could win the race well you won the result Thursday night how do you feel about the car did you do much work out between then and now get ready for today's five hundred I think we did we we tried to make her car more drivable in traffic this weather is definitely going to be the hottest we've been so I hope I hope we've prepared enough I think we did a lot of things to try to help me yesterday with the sunlight on the racetrack there we go it is William Byron go to star in the fourth spot here today after that big win on Thursday night the little tramp poster we talked a lot of guys are ready with lots of experience here at Daytona in in the Daytona five hundred here's a guy making his first Daytona five hundred start that's cool Custer so what is your level of anticipation like how do you feel as you get ready to strap on board for your first five hundred mile here at Daytona I mean I see no reason.
