"We know that's a major need for them. But yeah, I don't know. What's your gut feel here on the scenes? I think if you're the saints and you want a quarterback and you have these two picks, you have to take the quarterback first. Yeah. Because you can't, this is the exact same thing as much as I disagreed with it. This is the exact same point that Dave gettleman made when they had the two first round picks. I can't know that Daniel Jones might be there. But then I can't take him second and then be like, oh cool, he's still there. You know, nobody else wanted him. Like, you have to have some assertiveness here, you know? And you have to take your guy here. It could be Kenny Pickett. I liked Matt corral there. Just because boy, he gets rid of the ball fast, you know? And not that it's Drew Brees ask, but the release is quick. It's on time. It's accurate. You could scheme something up good within there, but I'm good with, you know, pick it, I like him too there because like you said, dome team, you're not concerned about the hand size as much, some functional mobility like there is with corral and he's a little bit thicker. So you're not worried about the injury and you're not worried about the past injury. Issue stuff. So I think you got to take your quarterback if you're going to take your quarterback here though. Okay. I like what you bring it with Matt corral here. Again, I feel like we're going to end up trying to find this sort of a warm weather, don't be placed for Kenny Pickett, so that he doesn't have to throw his passes like a soccer throw in. Or like a series of shovel passes, shovel pass only offense. That's your only choice if you're playing in the northern part of the country. But I do like corral, I mean look, I don't like any of these quarterbacks, but I do relatively like corral as an option and a fit here in New Orleans. So let's do that. Let's do Matt corral out of Ole miss to the saints with the 16th pick, which brings us to the Chargers who boy, what a nice spot for the Chargers to be in. You know, you've sort of rebuilt the defense quite a bit..

"Man coverage. Good luck. Exactly what Kansas City did to Jordan love last year when they played Green Bay. And so we'll see how good it says in order against man coverage. That remains to be seen in my opinion. I'm excited to watch him in the preseason. Matt corral is another guy Matt coral the quarterback of Ole miss is a guy that another guy that I love, who is a great leader who the kind of person I would have wanted to play with when I played football back in the day. He does have weird mechanics, but I would say who cares. Philip Rivers, historically, at very weird mechanics, he threw forever. 63,000 yards, so don't come after, you know, Matt corral saying, he's got a weird throwing motion. It doesn't matter. The ball gets there accurately and on time, and that's all that really matters. And by the way, it gets out of his hand very, very quickly. Now, and by the way, Philip Rivers, 6 all time leading passer in the NFL. It just doesn't matter if you got a weird throwing motion. Matt corral does two things really well that will help him early on during his career. He's really quick, he runs well, so he's a good runner with a football, he also is very good at running RPOs, a run pass option, meaning he puts defenders in uncomfortable situations where if they play the run, he can throw them all behind him. If they back off and play the pass, he can just hand out the ball and move on with his life. I could see Seattle taking Matt corral number 9 overall. I'm not saying they're gonna do that, but I'm saying I could see a world where if I was Seattle, I would go, we could probably win with Matt corral. We can build an offense around his specific skill set, design a system around putting defenders in conflict. He's going to run the ball a lot. Honestly, very similar to what Jalen hurts did last year in Philadelphia. I think that dog will hunt and I think he would play very well with DK Metcalf. I think Matt corral might be a great answer if you're Seattle trying to rebuild your football team. He's very similar character wise to Russell Wilson. He's way cheaper, monumentally cheaper and build a lot around him. I think that Matt corral is way better than drew lock. Seattle, I think, should draft Matt corral and build around him at number 9 overall. You can start him day one. He got nothing to lose and I like Matt corral a lot. I think but because specifically, he can run an RPO system and run the ball with his legs a lot..

"Than I do, but what does scouts see and what don't they see sometimes when these guys that they go low and obviously we just got through spending a period of time talking about Brady, but why are we supposed to believe all these mock drafts when so many people get them wrong? We shouldn't believe them. I guess it's what I would say. I think here's what I would say. Quarterbacks come in different shapes and sizes. So it's different than a position like left tackle. A guy at left tackle better B 6 fours. Arms better be a certain length. The reality for quarterback is, it might be Drew Brees's size. You know, he might look like Michael Vick. He might look like Patrick Mahomes. So it's different at quarterback because of that. The physical traits and then Paul, I will say this. I think the hardest thing about evaluating quarterbacks is understanding the level of talent that they are surrounded by, and the level of talent that they are playing against. And so that's why I think it's hard when you watch Carson Wentz. Like, how good are these guys around them? Are Daniel Jones? How bad are these guys around him? And I think that ends up being difficult to try to really decipher and get right because it is a dependent position for the most part. And, you know, not everybody is an expert on every single player on both sides of the ball. And so when you watch quarterback sometimes it looks better than it should and sometimes it looks worse than it should. I think that is the biggest reason for people evaluating quarterbacks incorrectly. In order to close by asking about one in particular in this Matt corral, because I vaguely remember, I mean, he has been high on the list near the top. Now he's almost nowhere to be found in the first round and probably even into the lower parts of that. When you see him and again, he had a good cast around him, but certainly not like some. What do you see with Matt corral? You know, I was asked earlier today, Paul, like, who is an NFL comp for Matt corral. The name that came to mind for me was Jeff Garcia. Now, what do you think of Jeff Garcia? I guess you could, you know, looking at it through that lens, but he's a guy that was winning playoff games. He certainly was a starter and played a high level for a while. And I think that's the type of player that you hope that someone like Matt carrell could be like. You know, somebody that is certainly has the physical tools as a thrower. Kind of has like a athletic slipperiness to his game. But he's built differently than most quarterbacks. Injuries have been a little bit of an issue. And so, you know, I think that, you know, if you were looking at how he would fit, that's the type of player I could see him becoming. Now I think that, in my opinion, that's a hefty compliment to Matt corral. But, you know, I think what it ends up being is a coach that kind of sees that same thing in him, and then ultimately getting an opportunity in a system where those types of skills can flourish in the NFL. Great conversation with Tim Hasselbeck. We really appreciate it very, very much. It's been a busy half hour here with Kirby smart and Tim Hasselbeck. Don't forget, we'll spend the final hour talking about this day and this weekend and what it means to so many different people of different face with the archbishop just located at the Vatican. And we will talk to him in a few minutes. More of your phone calls.

"I was saying the manner in which they lost. Yeah, I mean, that makes me feel a little bit better. Makes you feel a little bit better. It would have been worse if they would have gone on and won the national title on top of beating coach K at Cameron knocking him out of the tournament and winning the national my goodness. That would have been the absolute worst. Am I in the am I an outlaw saying I'd prefer to lose to the team that wins it all? Yeah, but not that. Not in this particular. Most instances yes. Not in this particular position if it was Ohio State what I want Ohio State to win it all. No, you definitely, look, I'm not even that much into this rivalry when you live and die on Michigan, Ohio State. So I think for some reason I keep going back to the intern that I really was into back at the Staten Island advance and I really wanted to go out and what happened again? Well, she wasn't into me. Right. And wound up not only rejecting my advances, but then going out where the photographer at the paper. So you wanted all of his pictures to be blurry? No, no, no, no, I'm a professional. I was able to come to work. I wasn't, but it was still just disappointing. But then they wound up getting married. So then that makes it definitely makes it better. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. For sure. So, but at least you didn't have Josh. I think the marriage lasted. That makes you feel good. Why? Why not? Because I don't like it when people 50% happens to everybody. Nice. Yeah, but did you see what I'm saying? I felt better that I lost somebody. Put yourself ultimate victory. Ohio State put yourself into this situation. How would you have felt? The national team to get to the final game, be up by as much as they were up. And now they're in the record books of blowing the largest lead in the history of the national championship game. That was where Williams last night. I think quite Roy was sad yesterday, I think. Well, I think you want Carolina to win. Right. Come down to it. Right, right. I'm just trying to see if I'm trying to put myself in your spite shoes for the moment. Come on. I don't know, man. You want to win. Because you could say at least they beat us and they beat everybody. Right, but you don't want to lose to that. Chris is rival to win the title. Anybody else that could just in your conference like whatever. So in a sense, I do feel that way because when the Giants went to the Super Bowl against the patent in the room for him just because of the NFC's thing, but overall not duke Carolina wouldn't work like that. It's a different level of spite. Richard the king petty. I just want to get this out of the way before Nance joins us. I got to get the spite out of the world. You think nan says any spite in his body? I don't think he's not a spiteful man. No. It's so fun though. And a plus plus plus storyteller gymnast. A rich speaking of the intern at the paper. Like you said, she married the photographer and it got married. That's not bad, but how would you like to be Josh Lucas? Remember from last year, we're like, oh, girl, we went out with. And then she went out with a guy who ended up with her. He said that he was talking to her online. She had a friend. And she said I'm already taking. Oh, by the way, though, he's got the plane from sweet home. We haven't revisited that story. Not just a plane. So we had multiple planes. In his hanger. Is the exact plane. Maybe you were in. Would you like to come back? I've made him famous, right? Right. So that's a little rough right there, yeah. Yeah, but is that the similar he's lost out an opportunity to maybe find love, I don't know, I'm just trying to. Would it make it any better going back to your story, right? She was just uninterested, right? From the get go. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I don't know if the full package you see her today is what I was were you not laying your game down. I don't know if I was featuring that. So would it make it any better or easier for you to understand TJ and minds like spite position if you had been dating? Yes. She broke up with you for this guy. I mean, you know what I mean? And then they got married, and then they got divorced, you'd be happy they got divorced. I don't think I'd be ever happy anybody's gotten divorced. That's for you. I'm happy for you. Thanks. You're very good funny. I'm gonna get you back. I don't know. People get divorced every day. There's one happening right now. Just.

"Should be getting ready for this thing, right? If we've done any stretching or you love stretch? You know, Susie sent us a picture of the man walking on your back. Oh yeah, I think she did. We said this the hospital's real quick. No, no, no. This doesn't need to be. Get a little bit of maintenance. Sure. Yes. I mean, I'm not, you know, are you cutting out on the red? No. Have you ran a straight line? Not to see my Instagram photograph. Picking up 6 bottles of Woodson's finest for after the race. Definitely not. We ran at all or in how. Like a straight line? No. Have you more than ten feet? A brisk walk? No. Oh yes, a brisk walk. Okay. Yeah, I'm hiking. Walking up running, are you literally had like a pickaxe and boots? It's not like the price is right. It's feller's not paying attention. What are our expectations here? Very low. Okay. Keep them low. Rich, this is for charity. We got to have high expectations. We can bet on this. I'm trying to make a little scratch on your time. Wait, come on. I keep telling you. There's 800 numbers we've got to give this guy. You're not very good at it. Distracted driving is a serious problem on our roadways leading to the deaths of thousands of people and injuries in the hundreds of thousands each year. When you take your eyes and your focus off the road, even for a second, it can be deadly. Not just for you, but for other drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. Sadly, many Americans use their cell phones while driving. Whether it's texting, checking emails, scrolling media feeds, or any other form of distraction, drivers are putting themselves and others at a great risk. It's important to know that 48 states have banned texting and driving. Also, 25 states prohibit all drivers from using cell phones while driving. Distracted drivers are not only putting people at risk, they're also probably breaking the law. Look, it's dangerous to use your cell phone behind the wheel. That's why law enforcement officers write tickets and enforce hands free and anti texting and driving laws..

"But the one that we know is going to have the longest ripple effect in this league is without a doubt that fully guaranteed deal for deshaun Watson. And I'm wondering how you see this playing out that there's going to have to be an owner in this league that stares at his generationally talented kid quarterback who he is deeply and madly in love with and why not because of how good he is and how to use the mail phrase clean off the field that he is and say to that person I'm not guaranteeing every single dollar I'm not putting that much money in escrow, sorry, right? I mean, that's the way it's going to go or an owner is just going to have to do this because the haslams just did for somebody that had 22 civil suits hanging over his head. What do you think? I think it's really hard to be the owner that says that. Although when we think about the quarterbacks that are now or within a year going to get those new contracts, we have some of the owners that if anybody's going to say it, they're going to say it. I mean, Mike Brown is, I guarantee you're not happy with what happened, and he's a year away from having to sign a guy that just carry a team to the Super Bowl. San Diego is a year away from needing percent Justin Herbert. Not sure what's going on in Baltimore, but they presumably like to sign the quarterback at any moment. These are mid revenue to low profit teams. And they bring the league back to a point where they were legitimate debates about whether low profit teams versus high profit teams was affecting the competitive balance in the NFL. So I know we're in the weeds a little bit for the average fan. But this is going to affect you and your team sooner or later. And it will affect a lot of quarterbacks. A lot of contracts sooner or later. And some quarterbacks right away. So the some owners are going to get a lot of pressure to do that. Whoever's doing the next deal. Because one deal, when you're negotiating, you can explain as an outlier an aberration. You start to see two deals with three deals of precedent establish now established and you don't have a case to make. So we've got a couple of owners, if anybody's going to take that hard position and at least postpone doing the deal, remember they could keep borrow for three more years and two tags. It's Cincinnati is the most likely team in the whole league to do that. So at least in terms of how far he took his team, they just had the quarterback that's the best of the group I just mentioned. So this is going to affect everything. And you're right. Not many owners are sitting with $200 million. They can just put into an escrow account. And I know that sounds funny to the public because it's so wealthy, but they're just not structured in a way that that's a natural thing to do. Or a smart thing to do, frankly, in most instances. So what about Arizona? Don't you think that maybe whatever last time you were on, we talked about that and I have it here still because again his stationary so impressive the calamari station area that Eric burkhart sent out his statement, his sort of Jerry Maguire type manifesto saying that my guy wants to be your quarterback. He wants to be paid appropriately. Don't you think that whatever conversations that chyme, Steve come to GM there and Michael bidwell, the owner is there that's had with Eric burkhardt, Kyler representative. Whatever framework was working on, got completely changed by the Watson contract. 300%. Not even a maybe or probably a 100%. As with every one of these guys that are coming up here soon, that are playing at such a high level. Everything's changed. Now, there is a compromise outcome. And it's dependent upon the quarterback, really. Because if you do a three or four year deal, now a Cleveland did is still problematic, but massively less problematic. But Cleveland did that we create such a problem for everybody if they went out 5 years, made them the top paid guy skipping Rogers contract, which was written in kind of funny way for the moment when I say that. Fully guaranteed the whole thing. And he's a guy that has a whole bunch of off field problems. You didn't even get the normal forfeiture of guarantee language that we get in contracts that have been played that have absolutely no questions whatsoever about their character. So it was the details of it that made it so problematic. Now, if kyla Murray said listen, I'll find a three year deal because I think the cap is going to go up in three years. I'm going to give him a big deal. He could give me now. I think I was always feel like they were lucky and they won. And then the amount of money needed to put in escrow and all the rest of the stuff goes down very dramatically. But I'm sure if I'm a player, I'm trying to figure out why in the world should Sean Watson get anything I didn't get. And again, I'm talking about the top guys when I said that the borrowers and the Herbert, but that will be the fight. I mean, they're sitting there going, listen, either you get a partially guaranteed deal at the right average, or we can give you a very high average and a fully guaranteed contract, but they'll say it has to be three years and then maybe they compromise it for. That's the only way these teams and these owners have strong philosophical objections what happened. That's the only compromise I can even think of, how do I keep this guy in his job bar? I'm not letting him go. But everything I've done for the last 40 years if my life is an owner of the team says everything Cleveland did is everything I don't believe in. Maybe they go to a shorter term deal as a compromise to at least get it done. And listen, there is an argument from the player's side with the way the cap is going to go up. Maybe I'm better going back to the market three as I got some choices if I want to go to another team, but this isn't the right place for me. And instead of waiting 5 isn't that the way three, I'm getting a fully guaranteed contract. And probably the quarterback is going to make even more money, three years from now than 5 years from now. It's not a crazy thing for a play to think of doing. And it will eliminate. It will mitigate the damage that the Watson contract did to the market as a whole. So, Joe, before I let you go, I guess I'm going to get greedy. And I will now ask you what march transaction do you think will affect wins and losses the most? And it could be on either an atoms goes to Vegas and leaves a whole top the offense for Green Bay. Anything like that, Russell Wilson, tyreek hill. I mean, the names were insane last month, Joe. Which one do you think is most? I'm going to put the shot aside for a moment, which I do think is the most consequential because it's going to affect so much in the future. I mean, my answer is question is Russell Wilson. I do not see the deterioration from what I believe is an extremely high level of performance that is some people seem to feel like they've seen in the last year or two..

"Joe banner longtime executive in the NFL and certainly in Philadelphia and there was a trade atop the NFL Draft yesterday that normally would make big time news if it wasn't a national championship Monday between Kansas and North Carolina that turned out to be a heck of a game and then now Tiger Woods y'all are saying as of right now going to play in the masters and it looks like he's going to be out there on Thursday right in the middle of the morning ten 30 something local time and Augusta national, he said today not only as of right now is he going to play, but he was asked point blank, does he think that he has the ability to win the masters this year? I do. That was his answer. And he didn't stutter. And he stared down wherever asked the question, I do. And he didn't smile. He didn't smirk. This is it, man. He's locked in. It's head on. It's masters week. I do. It's masters week. And so we'll talk about that with Ian O'Connor, who joins us in our number three. He wrote the book literally on coach K and has been covering Tiger for quite some time. And he writes for the New York Post. So we'll ask him about who's going to start opening day for the mets. I'm free. You just be careful. Look both ways before crossing the street to get to flushing Meadows, New York. Joe banner will join us in again 18 minutes time to give us a heads up on what he thinks the saints were up to and what the eagles got and what their long-term plan a quarterback may be. They now have a little bit more flexibility. And next year is draft. They already have the flexibility in this year's draft, and the question is who might fall to them and where will the quarterbacks wind up? And we've got one of the top quarterback prospects available in this year's draft joining us right now on the Mercedes Benz van's phone line. All miss quarterback Matt corral. How are you doing Matt? I'm doing good. How much so? I'm doing fine. So what's April looking like for you right now? You've got visits lined up, walk me through what you're weak and rest of the month looks like for you right now. Well, as soon as the combine ended, I got yeah, I got to Zoom meetings. I got the private workouts and the visits. It's coming up, starting next week. Was supposed to go to New Orleans last Thursday, but due to weather, we had to postpone it. But tomorrow I'm going to go to Orange County and see my guy, John Beck, and get some work in, and it's a constant work every single day, but you got to love it because you only do this once. And I'm about to start doing what I was dreaming of doing when I was a kid. Yeah, I mean, I guess this is going to be the most traveling in a month you do. Maybe for the rest of your life, you know? You never know. So what's your itinerary? So you rescheduled New Orleans. I imagine and who else are you going to go pay a visit to? You're going to see. I want to say a panther steelers. I want to say Atlanta and there's eagles. Okay. So those are the ones that are there any that you already seen outside of them. Personally. No, I mean, I remember going to the NFLPA and I remember visiting the eagles facility. I remember just being in awe going there. That was pretty it was a pretty cool fun experience. Well, other than your personal physical health and how you're recovering from your bowl game injury. What's the most often or common question that's being asked of you that Carell in this process? You know, I would say just what type of leader I am? And I think that's just a common question that I've been asked frequently and I just tell them like I'm a servant leader and I wouldn't ask anybody to do something that I wouldn't do. And they know that because I'm constantly showing that on a day to today basis. And that's the answer you provide. Give me the answer that you provide to that. No, that is the answer. Okay. It's short and sweet, but. It answers everything. Because I mean, you ask anybody in that facility, they'll tell you. And your decision to play in your bowl game. Are you asked about that at all? Matt? Yes, sir. I mean, I've been asked the other assets as well. I knew I would never be in that position without my teammates. Specifically, everybody that has contributed from scout team to just being just. Being the ball black, I feel like everybody takes credit for being a part of being a part of this, the team that we have. I would have never been in that spot without those guys. And I think that I don't think they really understood that because it never crossed my mind that I wasn't going to play. The only reason why I had to make it make it a thing and announce that is because people were coming up to me on my team. Asking me if I was going to play. And that had never even crossed my mind. And that was something that was a curve ball just because I didn't think people would be thinking that, but I let them know, I want to say this was after the state game, or even the season. And I went in that next Saturday and I just wanted to let her that Friday and I wanted to let them know that exactly what I just said. I wouldn't be in this position without you guys and I'm going to give it all until it's over. Well, what was going through your mind when you got hurt in that game? My heart was in my throat. We've never met, you know? I just watched that and I got sick to my stomach, seeing that because I was wanting to see you at the combine and see you work out and I didn't know how serious it was and things like that. What was going through your mind on the sideline that day? My first thought was my family. And then right after my family was just my journey, I just thought it was over. I didn't know how bad or what had happened, but I just knew it hurt her a lot. And the pain wasn't settling at all. Like, it just kept going up and up and up, and I was just like, this is not good in my head. And I just remembered like not being able to put weight on it and it was scary. It was scary, definitely just because I had no idea what had happened and I'm grabbing my ankle and I can't feel it. And I'm blessed to finally find out that it was just a high ankle sprain, and there's no brakes or tears. And that I made a full recovery. Matt corral here on the rich eisen show. I heard your phone buzzed before, was at Brett Michaels texting you, Matt? Necessarily. I mean, I've talked to Brett throughout this process. He really wants me to land Pittsburgh. I was that was my next question because he was here in studio last month, Matt, and he didn't need me to bring your name up. He was talking about you and your family. He considers you family and loves you and man, does he want you to be the next quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the worst way? Big time. Yeah, I mean, I have the utmost respect for the Michael family. I mean, what they've done for me is something that something that I can never repay them for, you know, they're there for me and tough times and helping me through.

"And with accuracy because that's one thing you loved about him on film. His back shoulder throws. His timing and the accuracy and when he was letting the ball go and also his toughness that he showed throughout the year. So I want to see that again and now that he's healthy, I want to see if we can get these same things kind of implemented again or can we recreate them today? Gmat, as you get a little bit closer to the action there. I mean, what are those routes we will see that he needs to be able to show that he can do to play till the next level. Right now he's actually getting ready to go. He's talking with the wide receivers and the running backs. They're about to do a box drill. I would assume it looks like it's going to be some short area quickness stuff for the whiteouts. And for the running backs, not sure exactly what it's going to be, but we'll see exactly what it is and what Matt corals involvement is. But I think the biggest thing for him, man, is the mobility is huge. That's one thing he was very willing to do. And I think too, man, you got to be yourself. So I appreciate already that there's a little bit of a flavor in this pro day experience because if there's one thing that we know about Matt Carell is that he's hyper competitive, bordering on crazy. Those are things or by the way, crazy in a normal vernacular, not a positive. Crazy in a football vernacular, extremely positive. The guy is extremely competitive. And he's a great leader. He's a guy that a lot of people rally to. So I think showing that and getting showing some energy showing some personality, showing some of that in between some of these throws would be really advantageous because you want to see the guy that you're going to get all the time. And I think the guy that you're going to get all the time is a guy that's insanely passionate about football and pretty much everything he does involving football. Well, and he didn't have to play in the sugar bowl. Remember, there was a big conversation on whether that in Matt corral was asked afterwards, hey, after the injury, do you regret that Roman Harper and he said, absolutely not. He wanted to be there. And I think that's people like that moxie and one of the reasons why they like the attitude of this year. Well, they wanted to get to 11 wins. That was a big deal for old miss as a program and where they were trying to be Matt Carroll wanted to lead his team. He had been there all year. He didn't run from competition. And like grant said, he's a highly competitive guy that has his teammates behind him. That's what you love about him as a quarterback. And that's what you want to hear about a future quarterback on your team. I told you earlier, I still want him to break out the headband at some point because I've never seen him throw a pass without a headband. So I would love to see if grit can maybe get him one from the back. He talks about the swag in the field in the room of what they got going, break out the headband and be even better. G Mac there you go, you got a little homework for you. Going forward. We see him throwing that. That is just what we call what a box drill. Is that what you call to just allowing those guys to kind of run, showing their mobility and move on to the next deal? Yeah, and this isn't really about Matt corral. It's actually funny watching him from the side, just how short his release is, but I'm looking at it. It's kind of like, I mean, it's like throwing darts, man. I mean, there's no wind up. It's straight from the ear. But this really isn't about Matt corral. This drill in particular. It's about the short area quickness and how quickly these wide receivers and running backs can get in and out of brakes. So he's helping them out, but basically he's a camp arm in this drill in particular, but you can still see the fundamentals in the mechanics. Like when you look at Matt corral and you watch him, all right, where's that ball being released from? And some guys have a real long wind up. I mean, we've seen that on several occasions like Sam darnold, for instance, has a very long release. Matt Carell right now just looking at him a few of these throws up close. I mean, there's no wasted motion. It's really quick. And that ball is on the receiver really quickly as well. Is that something that players work on obviously throughout the season they have it and they want to get rid of it as quick as possible, but maybe something corral has worked with his coaches saying, hey, for this day, in particular, we're trying to work on that reaction time didn't just a touch quicker and a little bit more snap. I think at a perfect world, yeah, you'd love to have the shortest release ever and have the quickest release ever like Dan Marino, and the guy's got the best stroke of anyone that's maybe ever played the game. And then you have other guys like Tim Tebow, for instance, who drops it way below his waist, you know, to his mid thigh. And he actually actively worked on throughout the time between his final college game and to the time that he was a first round pick and he was the Indian valuation process. He really worked on shortening up his release. So it's something you can work on, and in these drills, you can showcase the improvements, but it really kind of comes down to who you are on game day. Like as you're thinking about self preservation and you're thinking about, I don't want to get hit, you're going to revert back to what your muscle memory is. So yeah, and these drills you could showcase a more compact stroke, but as things.

"We were cleaned up here in studio, Peter burns, Roman Harper, we're not the only ones though. They're in Oxford, is our cohort always looks good. Greg mcelroy, gmat. You're going to see Matt corral now with Gerry and Ely run some routes early. What do we want to see in this and just overall for the day from that? Well, I'll just start kind of with what y'all were saying. I've been to probably 20 of these. Everyone from dak Prescott to Mac Jones, you know, I've never been to one where that music, ever. This is kind of the first to kind of create, I guess, what is a little bit of a vibe here in the indoor practice facility. Now the big thing with his wide receivers and with the running backs that will be participating. But it's about Matt Carell. As much as we love The White House, as much as I think they have a really talented nucleus of weapons that he's going to be throwing to throughout the next 30 minutes. Matt corral is the guy that's taking center stage. He's the reason why there's four NFL head coaches here in attendance. He's going to have to not just display accuracy, but NFL level accuracy, like we talked about a little bit earlier. NFL level accuracy is not completion versus incompletion and all completions are good throws, not the case. NFL level accuracy is if a throw requires it to be on the left shoulder, it's on the left shoulder if it's the right shoulder is the right job. If it's a face mask, the face mask, we want to see throws like that from Matt Carell and the other thing too, like so many other quarterbacks have done in recent years to become very trendy when it comes to the pro days. We want to see the off platform throws. Things that are really abnormal, things that are uncomfortable to showcase flexibility and raw natural arm talent. So those are the things that we can expect from him today, and then I also think too. He's going to want to show off mobility. Y'all the last time we saw him on a competitive field, he was rolling around in pain. And that's not something that scouts wanted to see at the end of his college career. He's now at a 100%. He's back to fully healthy after the high ankle sprain. Show mobility show that that's no longer going to be an issue and that you have a clean bill of health heading into the next couple of months of evaluation. I would love to see Matt corral on the run. I care less about the wow throws and more about his accuracy and what Greg is talking about. Make sure ball placement is so important in the NFL because the windows and your opportunities to complete passengers are so much smaller. So you have to throw it into tighter windows and can you drive the football in those 25 yard 20 to 25 yard completions over the middle of the football, which a lot of NFL teams run on Sunday. So Roman, you were talking about it. I want to bring you Greg into this conversation as we get ready to watch macare start his pro day. So just that the offense for Matt corral under lane kiffin, how much does that play into what you see in the NFL Roman? Like how much do you see that? Very little, very little. I think lane kiffin is so unique in the way he attacks defense is that you don't see it. There's a lot more formation, a lot more tempo. But when it comes to.

"On the right shoulder, it hits on the right shoulder. If it's a left shoulder, left shoulder. If it's a back shoulder, it's high and allowing that receiver to adjust to the football. So I think top level accuracy is what you want to see from him. And I would think that they'll do an awful lot of throws to make sure that that's on display. Greg, I think you hear dead on it. It comes to accuracy when you're talking about Matt corral. That is something that he showcases all the time in all of his elite level accuracy. He's a simple throw over the football. Everything that comes out of his tight spiral is the easy catchable football from all the receivers. You don't see receivers double catching his ball. That's what I like about Matt corral. Is that when he throws it, people catch the football. If I'm a scout, I want to see him do more things that I'm going to see him do on Sundays. I want to see play action passes. I want to see traditional things and drop back quarterbacks that I see on Sundays that I did not see him perform a lot in lane kiffin's offense. I think lane kiffin playing for lane is a great thing. You're going to put up amazing numbers. But when it comes to transition to Sundays, the things that you do on Saturdays underlay and you don't do that on Sunday. So what can we do to really showcase Matt corral's talent? And I want to see play action in second level throws 25 yard deep dig or sometimes a rollout or a boot with an 18 or a 20 something yard come back on the outside and driving it down the football field with accuracy. That is why you've seen Tom Brady be able to probably for 20 something years is because he can still complete that out route and driving the football. That is what Matt crowd needs to showcase today and how healthy is the ankle. Is he planning and throwing off of it well. That will also be another concern that will be answered today. Yeah, he said he's only been kind of dropping back fully healthy for about three weeks. So we'll see what happens as he's starting to stretch. So as soon as Matt corral starts his pro day, we will be back with our coverage in Oxford. Back to you Paul find bomb? And thank you very much, and we welcome all of you back here. A lot to do this afternoon over these next four hours, as you heard, will head back to Oxford as soon as corral starts throwing until then, we'll take a short break. We're back up to this. "I saw a clip of it on TikTok, the other. It actually was YouTube shorts. Told the story about the Chinese farmer and how I'm going to butcher it. The Chinese farmer had his horse run away, and everyone in the village said, oh, that's really bad. And he said, maybe, in the horse came back to the farm with 7 other wild horses. And so I was like, oh, that's really good. You got a bunch of horses now. And the farmer said, maybe. And then the next day, the farmer's son took one of the wild horses out to ride and to break him in. And the sun broke his leg. At ever the village said, oh, that's horrible. Your horse, you know, what are your new horses broke your son's leg? Well, the next day, someone from the military came and said, hey, you know, we're drafting people in the military and his son didn't have to go to the military because his leg was broken. And he actually missed out on a potential opportunity to lose his life. And so the point of that story is that it's exactly what Dan Brazilian said. I'm literally like stealing that entire segment, but he said, look, man, we never really know how things are going to play out in life. And how insane is it that I'm taking a story from Dan Bilzerian? I don't even like the guy. But point is that he is right, though, that you never know what something appears compared to what it actually could be. Good stuff happens in our life every day. And you're not going to know until you see it play out. And maybe Matt carral getting hurt in the sugar bowl is the best thing that ever happened to him. Because he falls through a really good football team in the draft and becomes their franchise quarterback wins a lot of games and has a great career. So you have to be open to the possibility that when something quote bad happens, you can turn it into good. And there is a silver lining. And I think it could be that Matt carrel will fall farther in the draft. But let's be clear, but one thing David, it's totally fine for players to opt out of their bowl games, which I have no respect for and I don't really I have no respect for the bowl games. I totally respect people, you know how much by the way, it takes guts to say I'm not gonna play. Like you're gonna get criticized and all this stuff and it kind of reminds me of, you know, I call up my engagement recently. And I would argue that it takes a lot of guts to call off an engagement and this big obligation and this thing that everyone's excited about your family and people are buying dresses and stuff. And I had to do what was right for me, even if a lot of people didn't understand and kind of bear the weight of that. And the skepticism and criticism I'm going to get for that. And I call it football player doesn't play in their bowl game. It's going to hear it. And they're going to get criticized. But you've got to do what's best for you. Who cares what other people think as long as you're doing what you know is best for yourself and I think it would have been better for mature else future to not play in the bowl game..

"It was like a 72 yard touchdown. He makes a he catches like a 5 yard slant or hits or something makes people miss runs for a long touchdown a bunch of yards after the catch. And it really sparks Cincinnati. And in this game, he had 11 catches for 266 yards and three touchdowns. And all year, Jamar chase is elevated his team and made a difference and helped his football team win games. Let's be clear. He was the right pick. I was wrong. I am so glad I was wrong. I remember being like, they should have got penne sewell, idiots. Why would they draft him receiver? Receivers don't help you win games. David proven wrong, so many times. And I love it, man. And I got to acknowledge it. And I truly, I enjoy being wrong, because the Bengals are so much fun to watch. And there's some YouTube comment throughout there. I forget his name, I don't really care. He was like, I can't wait to watch Zack Schumer be disappointed when Kansas City beats the Bengals. No, no, no. No, it was an awesome moment. Cincinnati won. And I really love what job was done elevating the Bengals and beating Kansas City was the culmination of so many good moves made by Cincinnati. It's not just Jamar chase, it's not just drafting Joe burrow. It's bringing in Larry ogan Joby from Cleveland. Trey hendrickson from New Orleans. BJ hill from the Giants. Casey put up 28 points in the first half of this football game and only three points in the second half. That defense stepped up. Great coverage in the second half, getting pressure with their front four. A lot of pressure on Patrick Mahomes. And then look, man, Joey B made throw after throw after throw. He was dealing. That dude looks like a Hall of Fame quarterback already. And it's kind of funny actually, you know, the ravens defensive coordinator like last week said, well, let's not put him on the Hall of Fame just yet. And yeah, it's a year or two, that's a bit ridiculous. Who knows how his career is going to play out. But, man, like, I'm telling you. I am not over hyping Joe bro. In fact, if anything, I am somehow underselling Joe burrow. Joe burrow was 30 for 39 passing against a really good Kansas City defense. It's made Casey's defense is really come alive in the second half of the year. And Joe burrow shredded them 446 yards four touchdowns, zero turnovers, and the guy got hit a ton. He's the most sacked quarterback in the entire NFL. The offensive line, they still need work. I mean, Joe got his nameplate ripped off of the back of his Jersey. He was getting hit so much. He probably ripped him off. I'm sure he ripped it the rest of it off himself. But I remember watching it slowly peel off his Jersey. And I got things like barely hanging on. And in spite of the fact that the ovens online is struggling. It's by the fact that he's having to really, how many times have you watched Joe burrow at all? He's avoiding sacks. He's making people miss. He's turning what should be losses into big throws downfield..

"Team might win with like a 40 point comeback, and you're like, I'm not gonna not talk about that football game, even if they're too unranked, nobody's. Now, game number one, number 6, Michigan at Penn State, would have been better of Michigan was undefeated, but it's still going to be a fun matchup a good game. I don't know if I'll get to it because I don't know that I don't know if I'll watch this game. It kind of depends on how things work out if it's if it's interesting I might turn my attention to it, although I am disappointed that in Michigan's just not in the college football play a conversation at all. And that really turns me off of this game. But it's on my radar. I'll watch and see what happens a little bit. Then you have 9 and O Baylor. 9 O Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the number 18 in the country against on the road in Waco Texas against number 13 Baylor. And if you did Oklahoma, at Waco against Baylor, number 18 in the country against 13 team in the country, that's going to be a really fun, really interesting big 12 battle. Yeah, Mississippi state at number 17 auburn, an opportunity to watch bone nicks a guy who I really like, that'll be fun. And it's the auburn quarterback, by the way. Then you have number 11 Texas a and M at number 15 old miss both teams are 7 and two plus it's an opportunity to watch Matt corral, the old mis quarterback who might be the number one pick a number of quarterback taken in the 2021 NFL Draft. Then you've got number 19 perdue at number four, Ohio State. They spoiler makers. Can they do it again? That'll be fun. And yet, number 16 NC state at number 12 wake forest. I'm working on a film analysis video. I don't know when I'm gonna watch this game, but I have the ambition to watch. Number 21 Pittsburgh just beat UNC 30 to 23 on Thursday night. I haven't watched that game yet. But I would like to. And if I do I'll cover that on my college football week 11 recap. All right guys, I love you. I appreciate you. Hope you have a great day..

"You get beat on special teams your punter that can punt left and right and you know all of the cool stuff that he can do like you got out. Strategize there on special teams and you allow to a- punt return touchdown which changed that game and that's how sparty ends up winning. So there are these little issues with nebraska where they have not been buttoned up under scott frost whether it's turnovers whether it's penalties whether it's special teams which was kind of the leading force to illinois in in game one having confidence the botched punt situation to start that game but ultimately if they can clean some things up here in adrian martinez gets the legs grow going in the ground game in the rpo passes off of that. They're gonna have a chance to win this game outright. The line says nebraska. Here there is a little bit of a battle. We saw it open three. Got down to soft three even two and a half at some of the sharper shops saw yesterday michigan back out to three and a half minus four. Some number grabs. I think there's some setup stuff going on there would not be surprised to see this ultimately closed back down at three so if you do like nebraska i would ensure that you grab that hook we've also seen some under money off the fifty two and a half down to fifty and a half. I don't disagree with either of those on. And if i were forced to bed at like utah i'd i'd be looking at nebraska and the question is can they finally get over the hump. I share this. I think would go a long way and could be and i don't wanna say and speaking hyperbole job saving victory but i think this is a massive game not only for scott frost nebraska sidelines for coach harbaugh to keep that momentum going in ann arbor for. What's been surprising. Start when you looked at michigan schedule coming into the year from big ten country though we head down through the world will try and figure out which of these two teams can bounce back. They were involved in one of the more polarizing where polarizing games of the weekend. We know there was a ton of public support for both underdogs. That of course being arkansas. And ole miss arkansas beaten like a drum by georgia. Ole miss fails to register a single point in the first half. And he three touchdown defeat against the alabama crimson tide. You're looking at old miss right now. A five and a half point favorite at fan sportsbook total sits at sixty six and a half and pain. I know it's cheap but we can probably call this. The matt corral revenge game and the reason. I say that everything. That corral said leading into this season was about how we perform last year against arkansas. Where you went twenty thirty eight. But those aren't the alarming stat lines. He threw not one not two not three. not four. not five but six interceptions against an arkansas defense. That stymied ole miss. Why is that all relevant because arkansas up until their game against alabama last weekend was the last team to pitch a shutout against old mess in the first half the rebels have lost seven straight to ranked opponents at home arkansas's lost thirteen of its last fifteen true road games in conference. Something has to give saturday down there oxford mississippi. This is really the mirror image game of the week and it kind of just dawned on me and i know you're on social media more spider. Is that where you're going. Yeah if this game was a gift that that would be that would be this game. Like that would be the jeff. Right is a gift for gift. I always. I'm thrilled to know if you're too old and i don't know what that makes me. I'm borderline ancient and you're the trendy around these parts. You have two offenses that want spread you out to offenses that run very similar offense on the ground. It's it's it's lots of zone fills lots of outside zone stretched plays with boots. And it's the to running games are are very similar and then you have to defenses. That didn't quite have. Sec caliber talent along defensive line so they use a a rush three drop eight approach trying to confuse you rather than you know. Be the most physical in imposing defenses. That are just you know talent through the roof like they don't have those options along the defensive line so they've kind of made concessions in went more scheme based now. You mentioned all the talk this week. It's about matt corral from the six interception game and no doubt. He was confused last year. Ogm did a great job. We saw corral kind of through phases of that game lose confidence. The body language wasn't great. But what's interesting is despite six turnovers with three minutes to go. Ole miss was down five with the ball. Now ole miss ended up having seven turnovers last year. Arkansas scored two defensive touchdowns one of the ole miss turnovers is at the one yard line and a few more in the plus territory. Matt krause so bad minus eighteen and a half total passing. Epa in that game worst his career by far in the second quarter of that game corral had a zero percent passing success rate on passing downs. We all saw the college game day piece last week on corral. The arkansas game was kind of the turning point for him personally and in his football career went from a guy that said he partied. Nonstop to shifting is focused to football. That's smart because it's going gonna make gobs of money here coming up from the arkansas game on up until the alabama game last week. You could make the case. Matt corral the most consistent quarterback in college football over that stretch. I mean ole miss is ranked top three in both explosive pass rate and yards per pass among all power five teams since the start of last season via. Listen to sam. Pitman's presser this week. He's aware ease not facing the matt. Corral volt pittman kind of mentioned watching corrales peres press conference from a year ago when he had the six interception game and he was like boy. He's definitely got us circled on the schedule. After that game. And from what. I've seen on film this year. He is substantially improved. And so pitman came out like you know. We can't really use last year's game plan with how good matt corral is now. Pick us apart. So i would expect him in in vary owed him to have to come up with something new ad in a few wrinkles. That corral has not seen.

I'm not scrolling through that every time and every time i have the urge to i go you know. Look at the playbook or look whatever. I gotta look at or going towards football so i mean it's just making me a better player and as far as you know the talk outside the building. Listen to it. Good or bad. I mean i know about of course but i mean you know again. Just look the other way and keep working man. I know we're here to talk about about college football. But could you do the whole world watching a public service announcement and explained to me and everyone else how you can divorce yourself from social media. I'm i'm particularly curious myself. I mean for me. You know i go on my phone when i'm when i'm bored. You know throughout the day. And i'm usually not bored because i've always you know. My day consists of a schedule. That's not normal. So i mean you know five to six or five seven. I'm in film in the morning. And then we practice all the way till noon. and then i'd come back at two thirty. I'm in there till five. Five thirty. And then i go then. I go workout afterwards. I mean there's not really time for you know to do all of that. Because i 'cause within those times when my like my off time is like any. I need that for myself. I need to eat some rest just to get off my feet and do absolutely nothing. 'cause i like i'm a normal person. I like to do nothing at times. So i just you know having that time to myself and being able to just focus on what the main thing is you realize your unique because most people your age in in in in every age are obsessing over what everyone is saying about him. You you clearly no. I'm not that you needed me to tell you that people were talking about you but it does take some discipline though. Does it. not. As you know absolutely i mean. Don't get me wrong. I have my urges where like you know. Maybe i can download up. Maybe i could just look at one time. But i mean like what was all that for then. Why did you just delete it. Why why are you gonna lead in and go look at it. you know. that's the way i think about it so i mean it being Consisted with it gets easier and it's really not that big of a deal. I guess if you're playing as well as you're playing it probably isn't a big deal. You mentioned the criticism quarterback is is the centerpiece of of a club. And and the good comes with the bad. And you hear it from your coaches but do you have. How do you keep when things. Don't go. Well i'm talking about in the past. How do you keep that away from you and not to let it bother you. I mean just learn from it. You know the past is the past and it is what it is learned from it. You can't just be thinking about that. And then be scared of drop eight every single time you see drop eight or whatever. It is You know learn from it and get better. I mean that's that's that's as simple as it gets it's easier said than done of course but i mean you know keep having that short term short term memory for those specific is good to have so. You're you've weaned yourself off social media. Do you think you could ever Get lane kiffin off social media coach. gotta love him yellow. Love them for sure. I mean you know he. He's he likes to be himself. You know you know like he said before you know that's his that's his time to be like who he really is and just like you know he likes to have fun on it so i mean why not. It's job done. I know that it's almost cliche to talk about coach kiffin but you know he is unique. He's i never dealt with anyone i can. You're you're you're a star quarterback. I mean do you. Do you feel like sometimes you have to be the adult in the room. I don't i mean my my coach is always got it he always got the situation handled. Sure let's talk about Where this football team is. And i know you're proud Everyone's proud to beaten louisville. And i don't wanna drag you down too many lanes that you're not really comfortable going down but but almost fans are really psyched up right now. They're fired up about this season. You have to feel good. Could you just talk about. Maybe the difference that this team how how different it feels from. What last year was. I mean last year. I said this before last year. Who is us playing a game and not understanding what we have with each other and not understanding what we could accomplish and it was just going out there and doing our best and you know maybe we could do this. Maybe we could do that. And from last year we under when we see what we could. Do we know the possibilities what we can take it to and now this year it's okay. We have a goal. We have a standard. Don't go below this bar. And i mean just under and then there's from my perspective of from last season two this season in terms of leadership you know being transparent with one another not only just myself just everybody because we need a leader in every every single room You know that that. That went up tremendously and i couldn't be more proud of the group of guys that we have on a steam. I know you. You don't wanna get too far ahead of yourself but it just feels like the expectations for this team or so much..

"Good offense which was a little bit surprising. I mean we know at land given was hired the be but there is a little bit of a quarterback battle coming into that offseason. They didn't have a full spring. Implementing a brand. New offense was was really interesting to see how great it was. So i think that's a positive now. If they do stay flat which will be big or if they somehow take the next step i think it comes down to matt gal and his mental makeup being improved. That was the one issue last season. Where one miscue. They would turn them multiple mistakes and you mentioned kind of the heart of that schedule. You know you go back. Watch that arkansas game and you'll see what we're talking about. There were other games in the middle part of the season. Where like he would make a mistake. He put his head down his body. Language would suck and he'd come back out in the mistakes. Multiply the mental side of the game. What matt corral worked on the most this off season. I'm hearing we should see a change with that part of his game and if that happens the drop off might not happen. The biggest question for miss offensively in in you you know hit. This perfectly is who replaces larger more sixty catches more than the second leading receiver. Defenses would game plan to remove him and he still couldn't be stopped all college. Football is a more finished fourth in yards per route. Run for receivers with at least sixty targets every report. This offseason is elijah. Moore's already the new york jets best offensive weapon. So those are big shoes to fill. Ole miss returns for starters along the line from a unit that was top fifty in line yards. That group need to be better and pass protection. Though running back rooms loaded with jerry and ely i think he's got the potential one of the best in the country. On almost fifty percent of runs last season usually averaged three plus yards after contact. That's impressive to me. Super allusive Old miss does not play a team with.

"College. Football has created an offensive renaissance. That of course being lane kiffin and you see the rebels. Thirty two one at fan duel. Sportsbook to win the sec. Sixteen to one to win the west their win total seven half you do need to lay a dollar ten so pick them. Obviously if you wanna go over or under there obviously high expectations in oxford for lane kiffin and this high powered offense matt corel. Last year was outstanding for stretches. But he did throw eleven of fourteen interceptions in just two games against teams. That i wouldn't define as defensive juggernauts and arkansas and lsu elisha more gone off the offense tough to replace that level of productivity but reason for optimism and the receiving core defensively. They went out. They hit the transfer market hard. But when you look at lane kiffin and what he's doing in oxford we know miss is going to be involved in shootouts. Do they have the firepower to go out there and outscore teams on weekend. We got as the big question. Because for ole miss to be better than five hundred this season. The can't progress in the defense has to make a gradual improvement. And i'm not overly worried about an offense with lane kiffin running it and matt corral who finished seventh and epa capacity last season operating. You had a true year zero with short offseason and then somehow lane kiffin came out and was like hey. I'm just gonna have the second most efficient passing attack in the power. Five and overall all mrs offense. Top twenty in epa success rate and snp plus damn good offense which was a little bit surprising. I mean we know at land given was hired the be but there is a little bit of a quarterback battle coming into that offseason. They didn't have a full spring. Implementing a brand. New offense was was really interesting to see how great it was. So i think that's a positive now. If they.
