I mean, that was right down Main Street rod on the Red Sea parted. Yeah. Well since late coming over And at this point in the game Defensive breakdowns. You cannot afford to have with a 34 left shooting. Shaggy haired clay game and out of the state of Missouri at the free throw line. His first shot is good and 86% foul shooter Perfect tonight in Abilene, Christian's up 42 40. This is a team that has been playing in a modified tennis court. All season long for their home games. They're arena is being renovated as the second free throw goes down, and they're trying to ace Texas here. 8 30 to go Texas basketball at the left end here is Coleman, working around the screen gets Cunningham in the left corner on a past pitch back out left to the circle for Coleman, with 17 to shoot. Coleman gets a two hand touch on him, and Daniels called for the foul. That's his first of the team's fifth. Here in the second half, but Matt Coleman wants the ball. He wants the wheel and we'll see what happens for the burnt orange. The only way Damian Daniels was keeping him out of the paint right. There was the offensive line to hand block and it was an easy call for the officials. He's gotta stay aggressive. Matt. Matt Coleman is gonna keep making plays here for Texas outside, right. This is raining. Ripping through with the ball offer Chi Jones. Now Remy stalking the perimeter. Top of the key tend to shoot He fires a long three. That's way short, all of soaring rebound for Jericho, Simms and he is hip check and fouled its on Morris. Wow. I hate the shot. "Visit with Coach Joe Golding, the Abilene Christian, a university once more from the while, I knew that I knew they were the wild. Yeah, I knew every second, uh, interested to hear what it's like up there because he said he heard it's not the most fun time for the kids. Right that when they controlled environment what Matt Coleman said. They gave me a puzzle, he said. I don't want puzzle like a foot puzzle. And yeah, so here I'll get by yourself. Yeah, I'll get by yourself. Let's see here calling from Round rock. It's robin care VJ What's the problem? Afternoon, fellas, something totally off topic a ad. There's been several golf rule changes in the past several years. That make sense. Yes, the last one that needs to be fixed. You strike the ball right down the center of the fairway. And it winds up in a sanded David, you need to be able to pull that ball out of there. There's no reason for that rule. I know. I know. It's a rule, obviously right, it is real. But your bottle makes no sense. You're spot on. Correct your spot on correct it makes no sense to have a great drive. Middle of fairway, and he got a sandy David and you gotta treachery. Shot s O. I agree with David. But leave a little hurt Lee Westwood two weeks ago at Bay Hill. Um Anyway. Reaction off topic. Well, you're exactly right. That's ah, That's one rule they need to look at. I love the new rule about keeping the pins in the cop. Yeah, I think that speed the game up, but I think we've seen people have used that to there. To their benefits. Yes, I play winter rules all the time, man. All right, It's getting I improved my lie on every shot. Hey, I'm gonna get that. Listen, if you're put it on a t from 98 yards, how you don't do you really don't know. I'm not gonna bend over. But you have your caddy. Do it for you. Oh, boy. Someone else happened to tee it up for me. I would not not hit it. Just a few other quick NFL notes that Chase Daniel released by the Lions called McCoy style. They're getting rid of their backup quarterback. Did you say Tell me, Marcus marry Odo was outlined from the Raiders. They asked him to take a pay cut of about $7 million and he said, No, thank you. He winds up with the Patriots. That's and that's an end. No, no, no, no, no, no, Mariana. Woody, I don't I don't think Is it valid? Check? That's I don't like him better than Cam Newton. No, I kind of know. You know where you know you. He'll probably end up in Dallas. Barrio to Yes. Don't Jerry that? Yeah, I could see Don't you have a real beef with Mary audience seems to be doing just what did he do to you? Well, you started fantasy disaster from 2018 that's still coming back to harmony of duct problems. All the all the above I mean, You guys. Just the reality of it is he was leading the scout team in Tennessee for a reason. Well, look, Ryan Ryan Tannehill game it came to town and beat him out. Yeah. That's near almost M v p candidate Ryan Tannehill use exhibition. Yeah, but I mean, you won't even keep you around as your backup. No. Yeah, they ask him to take a pay cut I, but I think he'll catch on somewhere. I mean, I assume he was starting No, no, no. In the back. I only say that the New England because I'm like, I can't believe that they would bring Cam Newton back after the year that he had last year, So they got Jared State. I'm still so Yeah, that's where that's where you Hey, the NC double a tournament is officially underway. Guys, Texas Southern and Mount ST Mary's airplane as we speak. There's three more games tonight. You guys gonna stay up late and watch on the basketball game? Heck, yeah, and then starting tomorrow 11 15. It is just wall to wall basketball. On the Longhorns play 8 50 on Saturday night, and I know what I'm talking about being on TV based on our conversation yesterday. Where in my bracket I have him in the elite eight, losing to Michigan, the number one seed, But you had that stand all the ESPN experts. Everybody loves the Longhorns out of the East. So what am I doing? Let's let's just bump it up. I'm wearing the burnt orange. What are we waiting for, man? What are we waiting for it? I see it I saw today. On ESPN dot com. They ranked the 50 best players in the tournament in the in this NC double attorney. Okay, Who Which Longhorn do you think ranks the highest. And what spot do you think they're at? I'll not above your head. Nod my head. I would say Jericho, Simms. Yeah, well, you think he's the best one of the best longer? Yeah, I think he's been the best longhorn. Yeah. No, they favor the guard play. But for my though I think he has been the key. The last month and a half. You know anything out of how many J 50 they rank the top 50. What I'm going to say in the twenties, Let's say 23. Greg Brown. Uh, maybe this is a disrespect job. There are zero Longhorns in the top 50 trick question. There are zero because I would have answered that. But you You alluded to the fact that there was just one minute misdirected You? Yeah s o That doesn't these guys you never heard of. I've never heard of I've never heard of the right is Simmons of Georgia State. Chris chose of Florida. Well, if if you put Matt Coleman who that would be my choice if you put him on that list, then you know the people in the sport's top guys in Florida would say, I've never heard of Matt Coleman. Who was Who was this guy? But that doesn't concern you that Texas doesn't have any of the top 50 players in the tournament because when it comes down to, you know when it's a good, really good team versus a really good team in crunch time, the team with the better player I almost always I'm going to favor the team with the better player. I will favor the team with the veteran guards. That's the thing. The better guards like a Matt Coleman say Matt Coleman. That comment. Probably most valuable player on the team member Jack Jericho soon because Matt Matt Coleman made things happen late. Do you think Matt Coleman is one of the top 50 players in the tournament? Yes, I would agree with that. But listen, we're looking at it in a sense that yes, those guards are veteran right. Maybe that maybe they're not that Star guard, but that's not there the way that they play like they want everyone to eat. You know, we saw what Matty Ice conduced when he goes off on his last game. But the young talent that we have I'm hearing some. Some pundits say that if Kai Jones plays well that he could move up and be a lottery pick, always. I think he's already gonna be a lot of re picked, You know, don't you think so? I think it's kind of borderline for him. Hey, and Greg Brown. Does that make you the best college player. We'll go and write. I understand about the makeup of this team. That's what we've You know what? What we've loved about him all year. Is that it's an ensemble cast. You know the backcourt with the experience and then Jericho Simms. Plus, you got these two young NBA guys cutting him off the bench. And so yeah, I get it. It's a total team effort..

"73 46 the final in that championship contest, Texas dogs on Oklahoma State 91 to 86 in the Big 12 Tournament Championship with Matt Coleman of the Longhorns. Putting up a career high 30 points. Also, some other teams clinching their spots in the big Dance. U. C. Santa Barbara does so winning the Big West San Diego State claims the Mountain West Grand Canyon for the first time ever getting to the NC attorney winning the whack attorney. Championship and then coming up later today, a couple conference tournament championships of note. You have the SEC with Ellis. You meeting up with Alabama later on today and then Ohio State in Illinois, vying for the Big 10 tourney crown. As well. And finally, boxing Phanom Marvin Hagler has passed away at 66 years old. Let's get back to our man from Nashville. It is Jason Martin. Thanks me. Welcome back. Farmers Insurance, Fox Sports Radio Studios one Triple A farmer's. That's the number to call. You could save a whole lot of something on auto insurance. I'm on Twitter at Jim, our radio. You can find me there and yes, I am in Nashville, Tennessee. Marvin Hagler. Maybe one of the three or four boxers. That I remember watching hearing about being made to care about. First, like one of the oldest ones in terms of when I was a kid, I mean, Yeah, you remember Taison, but I'm not even sure I knew Taison before I New Hagler because of Hagler and Hearn's. I want to say it was Hagler and Leonard Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns. Probably the three guys. That I remember first, just because there were big time fights, and they were being advertised during other stuff that I was watching when I was over my grandparent's house. I remember Marvin Hagler being part of discussions on television at that point in time. So to see that he had passed away. Here tonight. I just immediately flashback to just seeing that before I was old enough to really appreciate it. Of course, the Hall of Famer. He's passes away it 66 undisputed middleweight champion. From 80 to 87 see, That's why I heard about him because I'm 42 born in 78. I'm thinking somewhere around Probably 84 85 is probably where I can really start to have some of my earlier memories. That stick with me. And Haggard was definitely one of those memories. There are a few that were kind of creeping up right around there like I remember the first NC double a tournament that I've truly remember was 1987. When Indiana beat Syracuse on the key Smart shot. And in the 88 final was one of my all time favorite sporting events ever that I've seen a trillion times, Danny and the miracles beating Oklahoma in the final in that game. And I don't really remember the first. I mean, the first like true football. Remember was watching Broncos Raiders becoming a Broncos fan? Very early on. And then watching Broncos Browns. Comeback games for Elway. And things like that with baseball. It wasn't anything specific. Other than early Mets and Astros stuff in the playoffs. And then certainly my Atlanta Braves and watching Dale Murphy, but that was just generally at that point in time, they weren't playing in the playoffs. I was watching them during the regular season, but when it came to boxing Marvin Hagler. Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hitman Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard. Probably the three first and then Tyson would probably be fourth in that list. So when you see something like this, the reason I mention it just because Kind of stopped you because when it's one of your earliest memories from childhood of something sports related. You do kind of take a second, right? Like I could probably open the phones. They were the first memories. You have a sports fans. Everybody has a story. Haggles part of mine. No question about it. So or I P to the champ Passing away at age 66 will finish up the first hour next mellow. Makes a little bit of history as there's James Harden. I'm going to try not to throw shade on that history and probably fail when we come back. Jason Martin Show Fox Sports Radio. This is Fox Sports radio and we are dominating. "Woman? Tie it on the way good. Game tied with 1.8 to go. One more for Coleman, Texas Tech has one time out left and Chris Beard is using it now. With 1.8 to go. The game is tied at 66. As I always say he made the tough one. But With 1.8 games TAT. This is a tough one, too, but I believe in Matt and I believe he's there. Knock this down. Home and With a game high. 18 points tied for the game high with Terrence Shannon. Of Jackson's Tak. So 1.8 to play in the ball game. Well, you make the shot and you put your full court press on and you do not allow the thought the length of the floor you put Hot bond length on the ball and above all else, you can't foul. No. Texas has had nine fouls, Anyth. I would mean two free throws exactly the Red Raiders. And put them right back into position. Texas and right now you cannot commit a foul. But first things first. Woman. You need. They need to have the free throw for Matt Coleman first to take the lead long ones to have one time out left. Mike Shaka Smart. Use it if Matt gets the free throw or will the defensive strategy be mapped out right here? So out of the time out. For Texas Tech is Mac Mac Long? Tyler Edwards Tear it, Shannon. Kevin the color Marcus Santos Silva for the log horns. It's Mac Holman. Andrew Jones brought Cunningham out there for defense. Ty Jones and Jericho Since here we go, Coleman free throw for the league. God 1.8 to go. Texas up. 67 66 Shaka Smart calls time out now, so Law boards back in front. Remember.

"Out here. With 16.32 Go. Texas will be in downing down 1 66 65 You play the wind, played the wind game and take the last shot. And don't allow anything. Take have any run out. How about Brock Cunningham just took the ball right out of parrots. Shannon's hands going into the lane. Well, we see we've seen him and ham. Oh, you're alone in the energy. Now they're going over. So the monitor I think toe look at time. The Longhorns will have the ball was 16.3 to go with a 66 65 are. They could also be looking at possession is the last touch, but I thought it was I thought that it was pretty clear that tech and knocked it out of bounds, but I haven't seen the replay. They may be looking at that. You see Raina Kelley over at the monitor right now. With John Higgins. 16.3 to go for the moment. Texas ball. Data. 0.66 65. Yep, they're looking to see you touched it Last Jericho. Simms went up the touching, but now it was. I thought it was all definitely knocked out of bounds by Shannon And I think the officials agree with that, Craig, the one thing you can't have let happen here. Texas will take this shot say with three or four seconds. Thanks. Gonna release the guy? You cannot. You got to go with him so Longhorns will inbound the ball. I'm 1 16.8 to go. 66 65. The score. And they added a few kicks on it up to 16.8. They added Half a second. Uh, big thing is you've got to get the ball inbounds. You've got one time out. Any questions? Call your time out. Each team with one time out remaining, it'll be in battle on the baseline. By Matt Coleman. So call me in about 16.8 to go Can't have a turnover here. Gotta have a good pass Holman looking as the love that way out the Chi Jones now gets back to Coleman. Here we go. 10 seconds to play in the game, Texas Down a point, Coleman on the dribble.

"Was a show. Like i'm like dude. You make like millions when nobody was making go fricken barber. I just. I went bald. Because i had too much wine. My stepson had clippers during the pandemic in about april. I'm like screw it. Let's go unbelievable a chance absent. Got a chance to watch your team play. I i saw. How proud of you of your kids dealing with everything. That's gone on or staying together. And then that veteran back court their growth over the last few years. Well i think first of all for players around the country you know. I don't think they probably get enough credit for just kind of weathering all the town. Is that that everybody's going through right now. I think those of us that are a little bit older. Sometimes we forget what it's like to be that age and you're already going through all kinds of twists and turns and changes in your mind certainly far from being fully formed. So yeah just just those guys to come back in july and You know have a good attitude about all the uncertainty. You know some of the changes that had to be made just for safety reasons. Were really fortunate to have some older guards. coleman oranje ramey andrew jones and those guys have led the way for us. We've talked about on this show. Tana times told is important this year. i'll talk expound on that a little bit if you don't mind well you guys know this from coaching. You know one of the things that happens is when you're young as a particular back court you know gets talked about maybe a little bit at the beginning season but you know once you kind of get into the season it is what it is and You know they you are kind of left to figure it out and you only get one day older. Each day one game older each gained so that takes time But i think when you do have the experience as i told our guys you've been in situations before you've been on the road where you were down and you came back you've had a lead and austin You know you've been late game situations where you made or missed free throws or were you turn the ball over. You didn't turn the ball over so it's being through those experiences and and being able to use those when it matters most watching your team shock absolutely. You're built allowed on the defensive end. I mean you guys are so long so connected so athletic. I told you i was. I was watching. And you can't tape jerko sims like about the back or we'll talk about greg brown. We talk about jones and his potential like jerko. Sims is the unstrung hero of your team. Like as you start to really dig in and really concentrate on watch. Does he even understand how important he is to your team. While it's sometimes it's hard to know because he doesn't say much so You know we try to make sure that we communicate to him how much we do what he does on defense because our teams like a lot of teams The guards get the most attention. The guards have the ball in their hands. The most the guards are count the strongest personalities And he's a guy that he's very very unique on the defensive end he has ridiculous athleticism and strength that combination of those two things out and he really is unique in that he can defend the biggest of bigs but he also can go out on the floor and guard remember players a freshman. He had that those physical attributes but mentally he couldn't deal with being out on the floor and screening action. Sweep his and stuff like that. Now he can because he's really learned so listen. I mean if you look at any of the best defensive teams. It's because they have good defensive players the same thing on offense. You know what i mean like. I was phenomenon offense. They've got a great system for sure. But i mean they got great shooter. They got the most dominant big in the country. It's the same thing defense. So we have jerko matt coleman. Those guys are two of the better defenders. That scene you know team like baylor. They've got more vital. Got david mitchell. They got you know ridiculously good individual defenders. Nothing to take away from anyone sim. Because there's a lot of good coaches. And i know how coaches can be but players are. What makes it go. You do know how coaches can be because if you if you the slightest slight becomes the biggest deal absolutely i. Nobody watches or listen to this. Podcast you can tell us your up like a million at kansas. Like did you look at the scoreboard and go. Is this kansas. What the hell. Because nobody beats kansas by million at kansas. Did you know going into that. Game shocker that you were going to get that kind of performance. Well i mean obviously it was the the margin of the game. Was i think a surprise for sure to everyone but we were confident. Going up there. We felt like we could win and we felt like the guys looked like they were prepared. They look like they were very very engaged. When you go up to kansas the first thing is you gotta have the audacity to think that you can win. Because i think it's something like bill self i think is one more big twelve championships than the games. He's lost in the league at home. That's a ridiculous statistics so The last couple years we went up there and we actually had a lead at halftime and they went on a run coming out of the half and so for three days. We just prepared for guys will probably be up at halftime. But that doesn't mean anything. We've been up at halftime. It's about the second half and coming out and playing defense when you're on the other end of the floor from our bench. Guys did a good job of that. You know we talk about it. You live okay. How big a deal and it's not just kansas. It's you know you're supposed to mile but you end up in you know ashville kinda. How different is it on the road. This year with no fans it's different. It's different home in. it's different on road l. I think. And i've been able to to watch a little bit more college basketball than in a normal year. Just because we're not traveling for recruiting so yet. You have a little bit more time to do that. And particularly when i'm watching other teams games.

"Jason had a veto sports talk on a Wednesday afternoon in this tight 67 67 of the Mountain Invitational 25 seconds left the Longhorns have the ball coming out of a time out here. They will hold for the last shot. So very likely will will be over time or the Texas win. What do you think? You know what he thinks? I think she tell a very important story. And then I will either screaming jubilation or cry when you interrupt the Frank Erwin Center, and I gotta go to the bathroom when I came back 15 seconds left eyes that Matt Coleman with the ball mid court. I'm not a play by play man back home and a lot of dribbling five seconds on the clock still far away from the basket. He's driving. I shot up for the win points of the second line to one second toe left, Coleman dribble down the clock left handed. Big shot. You know what a team we are? Yeah, I could be played by play. You're on color and you be our sideline reporter. Thanks so very much, Jason. Let's not visible, Shaka Smart, Shocking. Nice. Hold on. Hold on. There's 0.1. Seconds left, warns of 69 67. They're pointing your Holman seven times. Did you do that last year, and they didn't make it? But I was just going to say Let's not be too results oriented, because, yeah, I hate that. I told you they're going to take the clock all the way down, But he just dribbling there forever. And if that ball rims Out, Then we're just going to say Well, what? What a play. You drew up, Shaka. No. You know what? That that means to me is that senior guard Matt Coleman, who chose Texas over Duke has the trust of hopefully is competent Coach. And that was a drama play. Matt. You got the last shot. Dribble it down. We're gonna win are going to overtime on your left hand, my man. The rainy almost took his head off there with tackling Mom and Matt there Your brother beat Oh, quite along. Homer, I I appreciate I wish I had. I wish I had that in me, man. Yeah, it was beautiful. But, yeah, they may be a little North Carolina home cooking on that to stopping the clock that I think you run the clock out there, but they got to throw it the Lincoln, don't you Christian Laettner? Asheville, North Carolina, Ready to Cannonball in National to the Longhorn running horns, pool of Let's do this, baby. No, this is Jay. This three big wins. David is a good team. You meet a big 10 school in Indiana. And then you beat This'll North Carolina team. Now listen to me. That's the good news. The bad news is Don't tell me, you know bad. Got Villanova on Sunday. Dude. Luis, we got Baylor coming up. Let's do this. Yeah, I'm ready. Now. Now, listen. What's the difference between Shaq is coaching style last year, And this year there is hair. So are we. Is the Longhorns gonna go by his hair? Are we gonna fall by the wayside if he cuts it like minus Right now. That was the guy with the golden touch like Alice? No 1000. Did he hold the world? Oh, Maximus. No, No, he was a gladiator. Bible guy. Samson Bible. Gacaca is our Sampson Sampson Let that hair growth. Don't you cut that hair? Shaka Smart. Villanova. Can you believe they're playing Indiana? North Carolina and Villanova back to back to back this Sunday. They're playing Villanova. I was just I was going to say they're going to be a top 10 team. He's gone. He's gone. Er well, right. That's what you know what. Okay, That's what I was going to ask in the first segment, And now that they've done it, their champions of the Maui Invitational. Does this mean it was the right call by crystal contact to bring back Shaka Smart. Yeah, because he's got great, great, great brown and the other pieces fell into place are falling into place. But let me say it's a long road ahead because you got Baylor you got here comes out with this guy. You got Iowa State you gotta you gotta bushel basket full of good. You got Kentucky on the horizon to you know, right now they're doing radio in Kentucky, and they're like, Hey, it's a long road to hoe. We got Texas coming up on the thing. "Battling underneath the boards, causing Greg Brown to Fallon that second chance opportunity for Indiana's huge first file on Great Brown. I thought it was a second. That's his first. Now the inbound comes to trade Galloway on the right baseline. He brings it out of the wing that dribbles. It kicks it away to rob Tennessee. Tennessee brings it back to the left. He fires up a jump shot and missed it as trade. Galloway tried to save it and did so Is he back? Off abroad, cutting AB and it went out of bounds. Great. That's just great awareness by trade, gal awareness and effort. That play doesn't happen if Trey Galloway's and crashing the boards out from the wing, and he's one of the few guards for Indiana that almost every single time the ball goes up, he's crashing. Try to get an offensive rebound. Inbound comes to trace Jackson Davis gives to land or another foot jump shot, missed again. Rebound taken by Cunningham down the floor in a hurry to Andrew Jones, and he lays it in And Andrew Jones gets his first two of the game. 10 6, Texas here early 10 45 on the clock here in the first half race, Thompson with the basketball out of the perimeter, he gives it left to finish the download to trace Jackson, Davis and Trace gets called for traveling violation and trace getting on a little bit too fast. I don't think you have to put the ball on the floor the absolute second that you touch it. He is talented enough. He could catch it square up first. Take his time. Look up at the room, see with the defense's then make a move. Playing a little bit too fast. Once you catch the ball, Indiana with four turnovers, taxes with five now with the basketball Matt Coleman on the dribble against finishing and lost the hammer. Got it back Now Coleman drives it to the right dumps it in this Jericho, Jericho. Simms, who misses the alley of Doug, and there's a slide on the floor, whistle blows. And what do we have here? Cunningham was the guy was on the deck. I think there's a foul called against Texas. Yeah, Indiana fortunate that Simms was wide open underneath the basket there, and if the past is just a halfway decent past, that's an easy dunk for two Indiana get a little bit confused with the communication defensively. And the biggest guy in the courts. Simms at 6 Ft. 10 wide open on a threat to files on Simms. However, he goes to the sideline and Royce Ham comes back in the game for Texas. He's 69 so they don't lose much size there. And now with the ball is Al Durham, He'll bring it up as Durham comes back in for IU now gets it across the timeline passes it off to broad fantasy fantasy. Trying to work slides.

Potentially, they're not joined with me, though I would say the better looking and more talented offspring. Mr. Ben Clements. Sleeker younger. Yes. Order last facial hair, but still a mustache? Yes, Rocket. A sweet stache with your brother Beato in the mole in the studio today and producer Brandon in there all by your lonesome. Why does it look like it smells bad in there? Excuse me. I can't single forever on the line. You have some tonight coming up. We'll be talking about the cancelations and postponements. There's been quite a few and the effects that it will have on the college and professional football world this weekend and for the rest of the season, man. I got a hit on this retirement. That happened to Ah, I would call him Local dude. Hell, yeah, from the entertainment world as well. But then I am. I'm stoked. I'm ready for tip off tonight. Oh, boy them running horns. University of Texas running horns Kickoff kickoff tip off tonight, verse, UT Rio Grande Valley, seven o'clock Longhorn network. Can you dig it? I have not been this excited for Texas basketball since the arrival of Kevin Durant back in 2007 this team. Look, I am I'm after the bomb Buzz and I have. I've done a good amount of guaranteeing on this team with Greg Brown arrival from Vandegrift High School Right here in Austin, Texas, G B. This team Is the best team in the big 12 conference such full what you say top 25 teams, and I know that's a bold prediction that but they are a lawyer's number two in the country I could give a rat's behind Kansas is number six in the country care West Virginia players, Texas duffel bags full of money up there. This team is the most veteran the best shooters, and they have Gregory Brown, a lottery pick in next year's MBA him all you can't Longhorns fans. Exactly. I mean, honestly, that does that hurt so bad man, and we've been stung by that. Shouldn't we be used to that, though, as office tonight, seeing our Texas Longhorn best will team we get these great players time Longhorns and then they're gone in nine months. Yeah, but you know what? I could care less because it's the here in the now we live in the present. Here we are. It's basically you know, the off season ends tonight. Seven o'clock tip. We're still the reigning Yes, defending? Yes, and I teach champions. It's good to say it's good to hear. It's good to know Tournament last year champions Don't mention the 90 the champions. Um God. Raining and I teach champions and here. Yes, Like you said, you're returning Andrew Jones, who claims to be I mean there, he says he's even had an injury last year. He's 100% 100%. Healthy, healthy, healthy. What a great story drew man. Congratulations. Yeah. Just for everything. Such an inspirational story, But you got Andrew Jones, Matt Coleman, Courtney Remy, all returning. Yeah, not to mention Jericho. Simms, The 16 sinner who has bunnies really big jump, Probably in touch the top of the dome. But he looks like he's like grown again with his Afro. I think he mine is a big ass Afro word. I know that things that beautiful thing and it zone right, But I mean, just as a man, it looks like he's beefed up as well. Well, Baker, the former A Westlake shepherd Well here in Austin, Texas, That's right. I was excited when I saw from Ham Jr last year. This. Then you add Greg Brown bread. Brown, who was a top 10 recruit come out of high school again. A vendor grip high school shoutout Vandergriff. This team has the most potential we've seen in a long, long time. Well, then let me tell you, Shaka Smart spoke on the program being excited. This year's well Hope program is is very excited. I think one of the biggest things that's come out of this is an appreciation for some of the things that maybe we all took from me before. You know, like the ability to play a schedule. Basketball game way as a as a program are continuing to work to build to become more and more connected around a common cause. And when the game start, you know that obviously intensifies, but it's It's very important for us to not take for granted the fact that certain things can pull people in different directions, so just staying staying connected around. What we're here to do as a group is something that we've been talking about quite a bit, and I hope that group stays connected and victorious this year bank loans That was the words of Shaka Smart. Who do we know if he still has the Afro growing? What? What? Knives on shotgun seen a photo of him since Mark. He looks like a guy that was at studio 54 couldn't find the exit. But his hair looks like yours. What's it does? It still does? Dude, he's doing kind of like the Del contact Little face on. The others don't know facial hair. It's all up top. I love that shot. I haven't seen the dude. He's not cut his hair until the Texas Longhorns or 90 champions. Once again. No Here's me national champions. No win a game in the freaking actual tournament in Clement's one game. I wanna believe Shaka. I want to believe in you, bud. And I'm drinking that cooling when it comes to this team, Ben because of the people that we we just talked about. You see, Greg Brown has already like a Naysmith. Yes Finalist or watch list. My talisman talking him up for weeks. Well, Shaka Smart knows what he has as well. There's six guys on our team that have really separated themselves in practice, and I would say if Could I would make all of them starters. You know, we're still kind of figured out what makes the most sense for us in terms of starting lineup, But Andrew Jones courting Remy Matt Coleman, that group of three guards and then Jericho, Simms, Cod Jones and Greg Brown. Those guys have played the best in practice that they made the biggest impact on winning and practice. We've certainly had some other guys that have done some really good things up with those or six guys that have had a very good six weeks. And that's senior guard Matt Coleman. He mentioned who I believe is left handed left handed. Okay, He gets a pass. Gotta watch the spending The shot Cantrell, but that's he's a good left hander. He is I mean, member the game winner against tell you a couple years ago. Yes. The senior guard Matt Coleman, who chose the University of Texas over Duke went toe Carmelo Anthony's former school. He's all modern. Oh, kill, so excited to see what he can do. Leading this team. You know, as the general out there in his senior season, man, is there some time I want that is gonna be on that court with him. Seven o'clock tip tonight. Are you worried about them? Not the Longhorns. Beauty are G V They played ou pretty well, last year decision opener, But I think this team is too talented in the Texas Longhorns. This is Shaka. Smart Year. Yeah, this is because it is quite literally a make or break year. Yeah, Corona saved that man's job. And here is Shaka smart talking about that UT Real Grande Valley team terms of beauty Rio Grande Valley. Lou Hills done a really good job with the program. It just got some unique things about their team that makes them really dangerous. Number one. They're the only team the country with no freshmen..

"And they'll. Of experience have offensive doesn't cost him. You know, he's gonna be Ryan there as well. Yeah. She'll going to regret saying to you because I think you fence it cleanses Oberle. I'm not gonna have to repeat with. It'd be Konso bows. Probably other mybookie phobe should be favorably gritting presenting Percy could have sold. Seven ten pounds to five holes. He's like cleanse Dublin. You may well find it. But you know, who's coming having Nova fences and open company before it's a big asking the price is probably a pretty big enough question month for me. I think I could see the rates being set up to see native several guy in front and make testing you can just Simbine travel away, which you just said well in jumping like say a ton of foot for Stephen I could see this bring out more him on some people's question that the might not be street. But in my opinion, the extra distance will be. The thing. I've loved about is. I was the King George and ask her you just finished with his ears perked. He just looks like a horse. It's got plenty left audit. And have any qualms about him saying the trip? The only question I have is you know, he's never wanted Cheltenham. And I think he's had five starts there and a different who'll have. Yes, I mean, that's just he hasn't done it. But on if you produce these King, George or and Oris asked whether the same sort of performance, he's going to be hugely ought to be. I mean, he's any seven year old isn't he he's still very much on the co taste seventy year. He went his cO Cup and. French presents. Dante's peak. I picked out I'm no jumps expert. But I picked out votes respects if he goes to the go Cup. I hope he does because he's a consistent. Awesome. I think he'd be an outstanding each way is that why toll? I think right now he's he's been there done it before. And you know, he's a very either sorta horse that every year those hard consistent experience staying chases that get the trip they know how to navigate their way rather rough and tumble go Cup. That is sorta holds his every year. There's one of those horses around the place and then go up because they just, you know, some of the younger attendants cope, and they probably go fast and they've been in their life. The jumping test is pretty severe native river. We'll go hard from the start, and he's going to expose any any little problem or inexperience or their lack of jumping technique a younger up and coming host has he likes of ride to respect. He's going to be in the visual. Yeah. Perfect. We've sold the Gold Cup the Champion Hurdle sales shoes. And we've learned some more about you. So. Thanks for coming in. Thanks. The price cost him..

"I think we would probably should be favored, but I wouldn't be backing impersonate thirteen to whoever is I think a price spoiled the land is also things still fairly interesting. He's on the edge. Eight or nine one three so relatively unexposed compared to some of them by what annoys out when is the festival before and think he's one eight nine stars. And although in Baffour, go a bit to find with the likes of apples, Jade and them. I think he's one of those experts and it's fourteen sixteen to one. I think he could do not price for him. Because either as being set up to see him as well to think levels and pretty Gulf in front, and I know meet I mean, we're hoping to get a lead. But I need someone to give us a late. But yeah, well, I think there is a bit of a Charlie pokes running the race last year. And I don't know if you're gonna run again is sort of a bit of a pacemaker for Buddha. So if Charlie pokes does run hope you might nestling behind him. And I mean global is a very free running horse, and he's such a slick jump that he has to get himself to the front anyway. But you know, just been pulling David bass to just drop him in the first to hate that all stay before he went to the front, and it just got him to drop the broad a little bit. And hopefully, you know, if the likes of Charlie parks and other Gulf in front just be able to get laid off halfway down the backhoe something that'd be useful. And see whether it's good enough to come up the hill. But do you think stiff opposition is? I believe it as the sullied yardstick. I'm actually she's an absolute superstar. I'm actually I watched little apples JJ. Racist back at Cheltenham recently. And she's never really run her best Cheltenham. She's exceptionally good. And if you turned up in a game, she'll be very hard to bait. But actually would take on round Cheltenham Lorena again. She looks very good. But she's never had to run to these grade before especially over two miles if you know, especially the grounds, not not too bad. I think it's what I've been rice. You know, I think of it as probably the one to be an interesting when I read NICKY Henderson saying that he didn't think he was very healthy last year. He struggled home from Mellon. But he came home, not a very well holes and he couldn't run for the rest of the season because of it. You know, he's full movies to champion. Hurdles is probably not good enough to win this year's, but he's he is the old stick, and I think there's a number of other chances show. I was underbidder on chargers. Yielding, Harry Dunlop the Conroy Tober sale. He's going to savage China foot charger. He's not he's not really done it at the very top level..

"Okay. Welcome back to part two of this special racing post bloodstock post cost still myself Martin Stevens bloodstock agent Matt Coleman. And now we're joined by James Thomas. Also from the recent post bloodstock desk. Just going to talk about some of the issues around sales at the moment. So we were saying that you've bought horses from all sorts of sales every level of the market with the breeze ups on horizon evokes people horses, like a sense of Mali, and rob him Navin from breeze ups. Do you go by timing? I do I go lot. My is. Well, I mean, I'm I'm probably fairly old school in the is still use a stopwatch I have a flag person at the two long pole. And I have a stop watch. And I have my I I also have access to some at twenty times. But I would go are like the reason we use a stopwatch is because when the horse is breeze. Get in visual interpretation visual impression of what I think of the whole the stop instantaneously tells me what's time. He's done it. It's obviously not exactly correct competitive tricks. But I like to make that initial assessment of the whole the way moves the way behaved in the breeze the way he got up out. And what the time was if you simply rely on the electron IX, they don't get published until after the breeze, and you have to wait until the paperwork comes back, and then you have to then put that into your comments. And it's just a time thing if you go to go and look at one hundred and fifty horses on the ground a like just to have made an initial impression look at the stop watch. And make make on the holes. And then you go and look at the whole you look at the pedigree vendors, very important. I've I've had a lot of success. I said you in the first part of bench house tables and some other vendors that come on timing the horse. He's really trailing them. Yeah. I mean, the the trick of grease ups and the strict producing breeze ups is getting the hosted Brees well enough to look good and Brees. Well, but the holes has to have a future is also holds his who's Dobie is the breeze up track. And that's good for anybody. So you know, I would. Migrate towards certain vendors. But I would very much have an open mind and go horse by horse. I bought horses. Oh, very much off the right? I mean, you know, sands of that he's by pennies Rovan avenue by Merican post. So you have to tailor your views to the budget. You've got to spend. When when Harry don't open I bought rubbing of Navon. We had fifty thousand years to buy holes in all call, and she's very prestigious breeze upscale we have to think has other books. So we bought him. He was a toll. Now, I host but Hebrew move. Very well, he's taught wasn't particularly good. But he had he was by American post. And there was two other stakes winning. American post in the pedigree. So you know, that pedigree gave me a idea that this horse had the chance of being good. I just I just he was a very athletic listening move. Well, I'm we got lucky James you from the breeze up sales. Do you think that there's been a slight backlash towards the or at least some assistance towards the ultra timing sales and worrying about the times. Probably be resistance from vendors think it'd be fair to say there's been resistant from buys. I think the whole premise of a breeze. Visit is another layer of evidence of bison wish the base judgement. And you know, having the times there is a big factor. I don't know how much what you could break it down into how much you attribute times the WTO case by case..

"Matt Coleman who works for the Stroud Coleman bloodstock agency with the legendary Anthony Stroud. Your hair to speak about Cheltenham because you have a few live candidates. Not least global sits in Champion Hurdle. Who you bought? I'd also speak about some other industries shoes too. So let's start off because bloodstock agent is sort of a role that many people young people aspire to because I think it's glamorous is it what it's cracked up to be. What do you do? Martin see. Yeah. I mean, I guess it can be dangerous at times, but it is a lot of hard work to travel. And I think it's telling there's not that many occasions in the UK and oil, and and the reason for that is the, you know, the market we working in is somewhat finite, and it's not easy to get cons and the economics of our industry very much tailored towards people with money, and it's just not that easy to get clients. But no, I'm lucky I've been working with Antony for twelve years now since did the Dalai flying start, and I was like enough to start as a assistant new twelve years ago. And I'm just what out from that. So we worked together we business partners. We have two goals in the office that help us, but you know, in terms of the agencies just in is. So you know, we do everything from flat racing jump racing. Boeing foles broodmares would act as racing manager for a few different people. Hell. Pout an Br with stud farm, so so wide ranging fascinating job, but is busy and how it works. And it's a job that you'd recommend to young people. If so how would you tell them to get into it? And I love it. I mean, it's always been racing pedigree fan this with my passion is some looking to work in the industry that I love what I recommend it. Yes. Is it easy to get into? No, I often help young people. Encourage people to come round with me at the sales. I do as much as I kinda try and help people. But it's has said there are fun number of out that and I think he's someone you can aspire to I think you probably need to get a lot of experience in the industry be bit through a national course. In are. Essential cool Dali flying saw I did is fantastic idea the graduate programs right straight out of university. You know, I think doing some travel is fantastic before you sort of, you know, go to America Australia, South Africa, wherever you can get more experience. Aspects of the industry. I think a lot of blessed occasion, it's sort of rather full and into it rather than particularly he said I wanted to be a blessed Haitian. The the audio way to get into it is to work as an assistant to I blessed occasion. But they're all very few jobs in you know, I was lucky Anthony needed someone twelve years ago when I finished Ali flying stop. But. We'd love to employ more people, but you know, the economics of it, and there's a fun at number of people who you can employ. Okay. So let's talk about some of your successes. You've had so far starts off. Just because she's a nice story. Melbourne memories. Who you said was one of the first is the data of Melbourne memories is one of the first horses you purchase after you finish the flying stock horse. Yes. I mean, that's a personal story rather than this sort of a Korea story, but. When I finished Ali flying star data just retired. And he always wanted to have a broodmare. So I was working with Antony. "And welcome to another edition of Longhorn weekly long basketball. Coach shocking. Smart coming your way from puckers the west campus location Lawrence coming off another big win as they beat the Baylor bears. Last added the Franklin center, eighty four seventy two it stop Baylor. Six game winning streak it stopped Baylor. Sixteen win streak over Texas. In fact, and the longhorns with that win continue their climb up the big twelve standings and second half momentum of the season, you always want wins. And everyone's important, but that second half, those February victories are always crucial. Aren't they? There's a big game. Because as you mentioned Bailers been playing better than anyone in the league playing with a lot of confidence and they were playing well at home and on the road. So we knew that they were gonna come in with a level aggressiveness. And it's all our guys. You've gotta be relentless in your approach. And I thought they did a great job following plan. We talked a bit about that last night and talked to Matt Coleman a bit about it as well. And that was that whole thing of of being aggressive right out of the gate because there's so many different theories about how you go up against one three one zone that Baylor was plagued but even beyond the offense apart of attacking zone and how you executed offense defensively very aggressive as well. And how you defended the bears. Well, we got our hands in the basketball thirty two deflections, which is always our game goal. And when we get that many deflections when we get that type of activity on the basketball starting with the first possession of the game. When according got his hands. You know, a tip the basketball, we usually defend really really well. Mindset so important, isn't it? You you preach, it you talk about it. So so often, and I look at a guy like gnat who had a big game with eighteen points and six rebounds at Titus season, high with six rebounds and five assists in only two numbers, thirty eight minutes, and I asked you afterwards about that. That's what you want to see from him the night in night out basis, you give her a pretty interesting response that reminds everybody he's still just a sophomore in a still young. And how the the challenge is always there for young guys to keep that switch fully engaged. I'm always bringing up Carter and Mason and Graham Evans in some of the unbelievable guards that have been in this league over the last couple of years that Mets gone up against and using those guys in example of guys that can play with great confidence and joy on the floor. But also have a level of seriousness about every little detail that goes into winning not just for them individually before their team. And I thought he was. Able to really strike that balance last night. In fact, I thought all three of our starting guards played really well. In terms of aggressiveness playing together finding their teammates and doesn't hurt that they scored forty eight points between the three of them. Does it is that the ongoing challenge? Whether you're a freshman likes Courtney, rainy or a sophomore like NAT Coleman or a senior like her. When Roach that there's that fine line between having fun making fun enjoyable, but being as intense and focuses you need to be in. Is that is that the biggest challenge for guys that age level expert, adopt and be able to get right Craig when these guys are twenty six years old, they'll they'll understand that a lot better than you do now. But you know, that's too late to help their college team and help their college career. So, you know, it's it's like clockwork you you talked to guys that go overseas and play or are fortunate enough to go to the NBA their understanding really really clicks. After me, maybe a couple of years. Moved from being a college basketball player. So our job is just to try to speed that up as much as we can when you talk about fun winnings fun playing well is fun. The ball going in the basket for your team for you individually is fun. So again, there's a set of very very small but important details that go into being successful on the offensive end or the defensive end. You gotta make those things fun. I you know, if you make those things. Fun on the back end. You it just don't happen as much. So that's an ownership that usually takes guys some time to figure out, but you know, as I tell Matt all the time, you know, you've started fifty some games now as a player, so. Yeah, you you're not even halfway through your your eligibility. But you played a lot of games you start a lot of games. We've put the ball in your hands. And and I think he's growing I curious to get your thoughts. And if somebody asked me this morning. What did I think was the biggest difference between early in the season? And now with this basketball team, and you know, my opinion and a little bit. We'll we'll get you eliminate here. But but that said, I I'm curious to get the coaches opinion on it. I just think there's a growth level on a maturity for a basketball team in a given season. That goes on certainly in the more games you play the better, you get more comfortable give it up curious to get your thoughts on what's the biggest difference between say the team that took the floor here on February sixth the team that took the floor say back in November when you were getting no one Craig's a great question. Our team is evolved in a lot of ways, you know, even more so than the casual fan or observer, even if they watched every game would understand, and if you and I talked about them, it would make sense, the people that have watched us, but you know, we've really really tried to over the course of the last dozen game. Figure out, you know, guys. This is our best chance to be our best on the defensive end on the offensive end. We've really really taken the data that we have from the games. We've played in and said, okay. Hey, this is worked really well, this is not worked as well. So we need to go away from this a little bit. Maybe not completely. You know, a guy like Dylan if you look at how he's being utilized and how he's playing it's really changed. You know, he's our. Leading returning scorer from last year. You know with Andrew not not really playing this year. And but you look at how you know, we've kinda used him as a chess piece on the floor. It's rich changed a lot. And that's just one example. So overall, I think our guys have gotten better, you know, to put it in general. Term over the last especially the last two or three weeks. We've practiced extremely hard. You get to this time of year. It's really easy for guys to feel like they're tired. It's easy for guys to feel like Pratt and practices somewhat monotonous. They just want to get to the games, but that's the wrong approach. And if you want to be a team that has an effect and a positive effect on what's going on your conference at the end of the year. And then even postseason what's going on? You gotta get better. This time of year. You probably figured this out about me back some time ago in folks who come out to the program and have heard the program probably figured this out by now, I'm fascinated by the data breakdown for for what you and your staff do in possessions in time and scored situations lineups on the floor. In a larger sense. Have you found that when you have the breakdown of that of that data in what the guys are seeing in given situations or lineups on the floor that it takes more than a game for them to truly soak it up and put it practice that this evolves as well over time to take back a step you use the word fascinated. What's fascinating to me is trying to figure out with the data. You're talking about what is something that's reliable to us moving forward. And then what's something that in the game of college basketball is extremely variable that, you know, even though the data might suggest one thing after five games, the next five games could be completely different. I mean, if you compare some of our plus minus number some of our lineup numbers from non conference play. Against conference play. Very very different. So what are you go by well conference place more recent you, do you go by that? Or there's some stuff that some guys did not conference play that you certainly don't ignore that. I've always said the biggest difference between the data in college in the NBA is they just have so much more. And they're lineups are so much more regimented, for instance. Kevin durant? Use all of our favorite player because of you know, being a star here and what he's done in the NBA afterward and his connection to our program. He's going to start the game. He knows he's gonna play up until about a certain point. Whether it's maybe three minutes left and a quarter or maybe he comes out at the quarter. He knows he's going to be out for a certain amount of time. He knows he's going to go back in and that works really well for their team. I remember talking to Billy Donovan back when Kevin was still with the thunder. And they got to the point where they say, you know, we've got a staggered. These guys a little bit Westbrook and Kevin. And so that was a change they made, and it was a big deal at the time with us. You know, we have a starting lineup as you know, we've changed that several times we have a couple of guys we know we're going to get in the game early and some other guys we think can go in and help us. But so much of it is dependent on who's playing. Well, what mindset guys are in you mentioned Matt Coleman. I mean, he was at a different level, mentally and terms of his join his swagger on the floor last night. Then he was maybe three games ago. I I saw him do something a couple of things that game. I hadn't seen him do all year long. And I'm not talking about the execution. He had some sparkling place. But to your point I and I didn't mean to interrupt, but it just it just hit me like a bolt from the blue. What that one pass he made to the baseline. He turned his back and was going back up before he knew it was finished. There was another time where they might have been banned do one of the Baylor players came in and try to climb up into got around and got the shot and came back down, and he just had a real quick shake of the head. Like, that's not gonna work that I haven't seen much of that format. Even though I know that's in his DNA. Well, you've seen it at times. But you haven't seen it consistently. And you haven't seen him just beat that guy. Giovan Carter and get tired of me bringing them up because you know, he didn't he? He's the same guy every game. And he may have a game where he goes eight for ten he may have a game where he goes to the twelfth. But in terms of who he was and the one two three characteristics that made him devan Carter those were coming out every game. And that you could say the same thing about Mason. You could say the same thing about Keenan Evans, you can say the same thing about any great guard in college basketball. So that what you're talking about with format last night. That's the guy we recruited, but it's much more difficult to be that at the level goes up. So Moba led the league in rebounding and blocks and all that now is in the NBA. And of course, it just got hurt. But before that he's coming off the bench plan, twelve fourteen minutes a game. When you go up in level. It's it's harder to just be to even beat yourself. And that's what some of these guys are figuring out. But. With Matt to your point the first thing, I told her RV Gyeogui Austin north cut who does a terrific job. This morning is make me an edit of. I don't care about the play that Matt made I want the edit of his body language before the play after the play the way wasn't his teammates because on the TV copy. You can see that stuff. Great camera angle from longer network of that pass. He makes the minute. He turns his head to go up the floor. And I told him last night. I said see you can play with joy and a level of unbelievable seriousness about the details. You can do both. All right. We've got a lot to get to on the program. And we may have a special surprise guests were will hold off on that let you know if we are indeed Ebola established contact with him. So I'll let you know that coming up, but we're plus the west campus.
