"matt chapman" Discussed on Effectively Wild: A FanGraphs Baseball Podcast

"That's the analysis. For me saying, you only have 35 bits in here, you know, the thing is you're not going to be very good. Even if they're home runs. Now what if there's a situation where I guess there's a situation where you need a home run basically to win, I guess. And he's guaranteed to hit a home run? Well, no, he's still not guaranteed to hit a lot of home runs. He's a good home run hitter. So there are certain situations where sometimes all you need to do is put the ball in play and in other situations you need a big fly, so is this guy keeping around for the rare situation where, I don't know, like you're chilling by a lot of runs or where he might hit a home run. Yeah, or even like you're down by a run and it's two outs and it's the bottom of the 9th and so you're basically asking, what probability threshold do you have to pass on a per blade appearance basis for this hitter for him to be roster purely for the home run potential is what you're asking. Yeah, in some limited cases. I think there might be some value if you had the spare rest or spot if we have restrictions on an active pitchers and you have room for actual bench players and dedicated pinch hitters. I could see some situation where maybe you'd just like you need the guy who can give you dingers and nothing else, but it would be a luxury to carry him, I think. What if instead you had a bunch of guys who could hit like say doubles fairly often and you just roster guy because then you know you're gonna score a run because they hit a double and then he goes. Yeah, that could work. All right, well somewhat similar, we got a question from Ethan. Forget whether we've answered some version of this previously, possibly we have, but he says with the NL having now adapted the DH we are left with only a single two way player so that raises the question for me at least if baseball went all the way and adopted 90 H's per team, how many players in baseball would remain two way players at all if a team had the option of having 9 hitters and 9 fielders and let's assume for now that we adjusted raster sizes and rules to accommodate this with teams end up having these 9 players be completely different. This is basically how it works in the NFL, of course, where essentially zero players play both offense and defense would this be the result in baseball. Obviously, if the rule were implemented tomorrow, we would not see this happen since there would need to be an adjustment period. But once the rule was entrenched and around for a decade or two, do you think anyone would end up both hitting and fielding? Would anyone even be good enough? How many people are genuinely one of the 300 best hitters and 300 best fielders available? Huh. I don't know. Yeah, I wouldn't want this to happen and I think that the idea is that the universal TH is like a slippery slope to this sort of scenario. I think that's overblown because pitchers are their own entity when it comes to offense, even compared to catchers or shortstops. So I don't think we're in any danger of this happening. I wouldn't want this to happen, don't need it to happen because no other position embarrasses itself. Well, batting as often as pitchers did. But if this were to happen, one argument for it, I guess, would be that, well, you'd get to see the very best baseball at all times, right? Because you would not have to stick someone out there in the field just because they're a good bet. You could get the best glove out there. And also still have the best bat, so you would see very high caliber baseball. You'd never have someone who was playing because of something else they did well, and you're just living with the thing that they don't do well. It would be someone who does everything well at all times, so the question is how many of those players are there who do everything well or at least enough things well that they would still be playable in this scenario. I don't know. That's not a satisfying answer. I'm like thinking about the offensive environment. Yeah, I mean, you've got better defenders out there, but you have the best. If you're Christian Pasha, this sounds great, right? Because you just play the field, you don't have to worry about the fact that the swing and miss might. Be disqualifying, right? So yeah, this is going to juice offense, I think, but I think that there would certainly be some think of some of the best defenders in buxton. Yeah, they are often some of the best hitters too. Like Byron buxton. Yeah, very buxton, the Nolan Arenado. Chapman. Sometimes maybe he's not one of the best hitters anymore. Formerly Matt Chapman. Formerly both of the mets. Yeah, sure. There are definitely a lot of triple-A shortstop for a short stop glove guys who can't hit who would be better than some of the major league shorts. And so they would be benched. They would only be heading it would only be heading but I gotta say, gosh, I guess the easiest way to put a percentage on this or if we save 300 if we take his numbers here, Ethan's 300 hitters in fielders like how many of them are the same guy? I don't know. I may go as high as the thing is that how many offensive guys do you think there are?.

"Cody Bellinger, AJ Pollock, the only one of those players who has not been an all star is Will Smith, and he is probably the best catcher in the league. So I imagine he's going to get his shot this year. I would think so. So there's no hole here. Gavin Lux, who's blocked again for now after looking like he might have a shot at playing time, but man, I mean, I don't want to get too cut up in the superlatives, but I was writing about this. I was like, do you have a shot at being the first thousand run offense of this century? And probably not. Almost certainly not just because it's a neutral park and it's not that extreme a run squaring environment. And it's in lineup that's getting on in years and most of these guys are well over 30 and some of them will probably break down at some point and you're counting on max muncy to make a full recovery from his elbow injury and you're hoping that Cody Bellinger will have a big rebound and that his hot hitting in the World Series will continue into the season. So there's some question marks there I guess, but Dodgers level question marks for any other team. I mean, this is just so, so stacked. And yeah, I mean, between this and Fernando Tatís Jr.'s absence. This has been a week that has boosted the Dodgers playoff ads even higher. I guess you could say that they're starting rotation, their staff is maybe looking a little lighter in some respects than it has been in some previous years. And of course, both in that area and payroll, why is there is still some uncertainty somehow about the status of Trevor Bauer and whether he will be suspended and for how long as things stand, they are just slightly submit in projected payroll over 270 million. So yeah, this is what the Dodgers can do. They can develop a Will Smith and they can find and fix a max Muncie or Justin Turner, but they can also just, you know, trade prospects and then sign Mookie bets to it, big deal, and they can go out and get Freddie Freeman, so they pick their spots and they spend a ton of money and that lineup is going to be a lot of fun to watch. Yeah, it's just going to be really, really excellent. So that's fun. And I like that and I don't know if they would articulate it in quite these terms because obviously, like the trajectory, potential trajectory of the Padres looks different now than it did even a week ago with the news that tatis is going to need surgery or has had surgery at this point. He's either had it or he's going to for sure now. So that has changed since the last time we recorded, but the trajectory of the Padres is a little different than it was, the giant still seemed committed to winning and this seems like the second off season in a row where the Dodgers have been faced with the option of feeling confident or shoring up an already excellent club in the face of real competition potentially in division. And they've risen to that again, right? And that's exciting that that continues to be a priority for them. And to be able to do it in a way that feels a lot less icky than some of their options last off season saw the better, Ben. That's just all the better. And the way they've gone about this maybe provides an interesting contrast to how the Yankees have operated which we could talk about in a second I will segue into the AL east via another ridiculous lineup. And that is the Toronto blue Chase who added Matt Chapman to an already strong position player course. So I don't know if it quite compares to the Dodgers, but boy, it's not far. You've got George Springer, Bo Bichette, black girl junior, the Oscar Fernández, Lourdes curio junior, Matt Chapman, Randall critch, Kevin biggio, Danny Jansen. That is quite a collection of talent as well with maybe an even stronger rotation at this point or just as strong, so this team is also stacked and I don't know how you can look at this roster and not see the Blue Jays as the favorite in the AL east and it's going to be competitive as usual as it was last year. They did not win the division or even make the playoffs last year, but they were, if not the best team, probably at least the second best and they just didn't make it in. And they had that weird mismatch between their record and their rent differential, I would not count on that continuing into the season. Matt Chapman may not quite be the player he was prior to his hip surgery, but he's still seemingly very good defensively and even last year when he was roughly a leak average hitter, not what he had been before, you know, it seems like his power was sapped a bit and I don't know whether some of that comes back or not, but he does strike out a lot these days and he is not a high average hitter. He does walk so he can still help you offensively, but the glove is still good and he is still only 28 and you know they had to pay a price for him and you did a little state of the a's farm system last time we talked. So we don't have to go in depth on that this time, but they did shore that up even further there. They traded, I guess, the headliner was Gunnar houghland, right? Toronto's top pick last year and then they also added in Fielder Kevin Smith who maybe is an immediate replacement for Chapman and then a couple of pitchers, Zach Logan, Kirby snead. So this fits in with the a's pattern we talked about last time where it seems like they are targeting players who are well into their 20s already, like major league ready guys who can step in now or sometimes soon and maybe lead to a shorter rebuild than you would expect. So it's tough, obviously for ace fans now that both of the mets have gone as well as Chris Bassett and maybe minaya and montas and who knows who else will follow them sometimes soon, but at least they're getting guys back where you can imagine them getting good again sometimes soon. But in the meantime, you can also just sort of salivate over the put chase rest there because it is pretty special too. Yeah, we talked about the Dodgers odds. I mean, the Blue Jays for us now lead the American League in their combined playoff odds. They lead the east in terms of their division chances. They do not have the highest odds of winning their division within the American League because the east is pretty stacked, but their positions to lynch by and they have the highest.

"There isn't like bands going here this morning in the background and green beer and all of the shenanigans. It's happening not too far from me right now and if you guys don't keep me too long and maybe I'll be able to catch up with a little bit of it. Do you have are you wearing Eric sjogren's sweater? Jersey out for saint patty's day. One of Eric scholar's biggest fans. I found that out over the last couple of days. I don't know if you came for that. I mean, I think did I take the text wrong? Did I read that wrong? I think the city of Toronto is happy that they just got what appeared to be a consistent goaltending effort for sure. What I really hope and I think what I tweeted out the other morning was that Carlos baerga was taking the pressure off Derek Chauvin. That's because I think outside of that Matt Chapman trade, it would have been a little bit insufferable to hear about his performance, which was fine. There's a big win for him for the team absolutely. And I hope he does well, but certainly don't need to throw all that pressure on the kid. Right off the hop. No kidding. Talk about pressure in this market with everyone discussing goaltending issues of defense of issues, all of that. You know, recently in one of the segments we did on The Rain rigs podcast with you, Chris. We talked about how the big favorites in the National Hockey League are often overvalued by this port books, right? Does that in any way get impacted or adjusted with the trade deadline looming? And what teams may or may not do, top teams or middle of the pack type of clubs. It's a constant dance so at the beginning of the year, I think the book's kind of cautious to see how things shake out. And then as teams start to separate themselves, then maybe they overvalue a little bit, so then gamblers go, well, maybe, you know, I'll take a shot on this Arizona money line or the Seattle money line or what have you. And then a few of them start to hit and you get some teams that are favorites that mid February, early Marx and maybe not there as dominant as you'd expect them to be so people start betting that other side and then the line comes back down. But now, as you guys know, and of course, trade center massive day for you guys, although some of the thunders get in stolen on you a little bit early as usual. The teams again start to separate themselves. So I just last night, I think it did a cow re Tampa parley and felt pretty good about it, got pretty good odds. And I worked out pretty well. So I think for me, I'll be starting to shift my focus away from these underdog plays to where can I find a favorite that maybe should be a little more favorite as rosters get better and deeper. And then conversely, the other thing to think about there is you've got your sellers, right? So they're going to start to fall off a little bit more. So if I can jump in, Chris, just from playing experience with no number, analytic backing, the teams that sell and move veterans look like they're worse. And in a lot of cases, they're not. Because the veterans that have shut down the season or have just been waiting for the deadline, they're gone. And they bring in these young, hungry kids that you don't know anything about..

"American League east is always an intense race. But in 2022, the division contains four legitimate playoff contenders. And on Wednesday, the stakes are raised even higher when the J swapper go glove third baseman Matt Chapman and the Yankees re signed gold glove first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Here was Matt Chapman after getting news of the deal. Crazy morning. But I couldn't be more excited to start a new chapter in my career and go be a part of an amazing organization that I've heard nothing but great things about and the team that, you know, playing against, I know how talented they are and it's not a team, it's a team that's ready to compete now and they're ready to win and go for it. So I could be happier to go join that and also, you know, it's emotional because I'm gonna leave an organization that gave me an opportunity that I met a lot of my best friends at and you know I've had so many great memories, so it's sad to leave. But it's happy to go somewhere where it's gonna be an incredible opportunity. Here was Blue Jays, GM Ross Atkins, talking about his new third baseman. It's exceptionally exciting. I think one of the highlights of my day was just seeing some of the looks on the faces and our Clubhouse is how excited our team is to be adding someone of that caliber with his reputation. Obviously a very good fit for us and speaking with him hearing his excitement to come into this environment, the positivity around our group, how much they care about one another and being so excited about this. This addition is what's been the highlight of.

"Thing that stood out to me as far as those awards are concerned. But they go gloves. Again, generally speaking, I think they get most of these right because we have we're so good now and being rooted in the data. But I'm hopelessly biased. JT Realmuto is the best catcher in the national league buster. Jacob stallings had a really nice year. I know his blocking numbers. I think specifically were extraordinary with his past all allowance. And that kind of stuff. But generally speaking for wars like these, I use a player's body of work to be able to sort of break ties because defense can be a little bit noisy year to year and obviously you're not watching them play defense the same way that you're watching them hit and evaluating them as such. And DT real much was the best arm in baseball. He prevents base runners from stealing better than anybody. His framing numbers are always fantastic. Baseball perspective had him third in blocking run. So across the board for my money, he's the best catcher in the national league and I'm sure I was happy for Jacob stallings. The pirates didn't have the chance to win too much this year. So that would say amongst all the words that I went through this morning. Those are the two that stood out. Surprised that Bryant snicker wasn't a finalist for that award. And surprised at JT real Muto did not win the gold glove on the national league. All right, hambo. Always great to talk with you. Later, boys. Get out. Bleacher tweets already buster, bleacher tweets, for a Tuesday, we got Andrew Campbell at real camp drew writing in, hey buster, is it possible that Nolan Arenado has a chance to either tie or surpass Brooks Robinson's gold glove total of 16, Nolan is 30 years old and only needs 7 more gold gloves to tie if he reached 16, would he retire as baseball's greatest defense of third baseman? Andrew, the, you know, I love you. But the word only needs 7 more. Only 7, 9. He is a long way away, and I would say this as we move forward. Brian Hayes is going to be a major factor because his defense is special. Also you wonder Matt Chapman with the Oakland seemingly ready to dumps salaries if they're going to move match Chapman. And if he goes the national league, that's going to change the context for sure. He would be a really nice fit for the mets, for example. Adam Smith is up next at Schmidt FIA writes in with posey's retirement. There's been a lot of chatter in TC markets about mauer's case for the hall. He had an incredible few years, but I don't know if he has longevity or numbers. What are your thoughts? Yep, Hall of Famer, lifetime three or 6 batting average, three batting titles, MVP in 2009, four top ten finishes MVP 6 time all star 2123 career hits, which is 623 more than buster. In his career, 921 games at catchers, 6 O three at first base, posey had more games at catcher in his career, 1093, 229 games at first, but Joe mauer and his time as they catch her was a difference maker. You know, the other day I was texting back and forth with Bruce bochy, and he talked about what an advantage it always was for the Giants that they had an elite offensive player at catcher and the same is true for the twins. Let's go to Brian at a player to be named later, Brian writes in love the show. Can we talk about unicorn Joey Gallo back to back gold glove winner elite feet per second rate and bottom 1% in strikeouts ever seen this combo before? No, not with somebody that big. Well, actually, you know, when Aaron judge is a little bit like that, you know, in terms of his athleticism, but I remember when Joey first came to the big leagues and you see this hulking guys huge. And I was talking with John Daniels, the general manager of the rangers, and he was talking about how like Joey's a much better athlete than anybody realized his boy was he right. Let's go to Don Irvine. What's up, Don? Don writes in, now that Kyle schwarber is a free agent, do you see him signing with an AL team to serve as a DH rather than the NL considering his defensive deficiencies and will he get a multiyear deal considering his 2021 season? Yep, he'll get a multiyear deal, I think there's going to be universal BH for 2022. So he'll consider offers from teams in both leagues. Mister jakey RS at mister JK RS writes in, now that the season is over, what's the feeling on the crackdown over foreign substances after all the grumbling? Do you think it had an impact on the game? Was there a big enough sample size? Yeah, I think there was. It was clear that there were pictures affected by it. You know, spin rates, you could tell that some pictures were affected by it. You know, we had Alex Avila on the podcast and he acknowledged and agreed with what I saw down the stretch that there were a lot of pictures who actually using foreign substances, good old fashioned bullfrog, that sort of thing. I think they found a middle ground. I really hope that they settle this issue because it really is unfair to all of them. As I said during the year when people would talk about someone like a Scherzer or Garrett Cole as a cheater, I'd be like, I mean, 90% of the pictures were using something. And I really would love to get past the conversation. Last one for today, Matt, but covered in confetti at kayaking Smith rates and there's been talk on the pod that Seattle, Texas and Miami may make some splashes this off season. But what teams would be should be worried about setting up to tank next year. I feel like the cubs, guardians nationals and reds are candidates. Congrats on the braves, World Series there mat hope you enjoyed your celebrations. Yeah, absolutely. Look, the guardians don't tank. When we talk about tanking and Taylor sorry to pick a scab for you, I mean, we look at what the Orioles have done a recent years. We looked at what the Astros did in the early 2010s. The last time the Indians lost a hundred games was 1991. The Indians excuse me, the guardians retooled. The athletics retooled. They don't tank. The Orioles, there's absolutely no sign that they're going to veer from their strategy, which means, I'd say right now, whatever the over under is in Vegas, if you want to retire, I think you bet the under on whatever Vegas comes up with your team, what do you think? Oh, yeah, empty account. Bet it all buster bet it all on that under. I'm gonna check that out after we're done. I'm sure it's not up yet, but the second it is, you know where you define me. So thanks for writing everyone. Hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter. Again, we're gonna do another show. Next Friday, we had a great batch of tweets this week, so keep them coming throughout the week and please follow rate and review this podcast wherever you listen to your podcasts. And just to touch on a couple of other teams real quick, Luis Castillo and Sonny gray, two guys to watch for the reds, I'm curious to see if they trade them. If they do, then you wonder if they're going to be retooling. They have too many good position players to actually go into full on tank. And I think the what to watch for for the cubs, do they make a major expenditure? You know, it was a good sign that they're not tanking that they picked up wade Miley. Before we go, I just want to mention we got sad news yesterday, Pedro Feliciano, longtime left handed pitcher passed away at age 45 and his sleep at word of Perez colleague tweeted out that news, I didn't really know him that well, but everybody that did know him better than I just they were heartbroken yesterday. So our thoughts go out to the family of Pedro Feliciano. My thanks to date to Carl to hambo to Taylor have a great day to everybody. Thanks for listening. Stay safe and remember, Hayden inequality based on skin color is something we need to fight against every single day. Thanks for listening to the baseball tonight podcast. If you're.

"Frontal yes that. That's that's insane because we've seen a lot of bad teams. Those those sixty to sixty five mads the expansion teams the saint louis browns You know the the was the two thousand three detroit tigers. None of those teams were bad. Is what the orioles have been in these eighteen games. I wanted to get your your feel. We talked so much about major awards. Like mvp cy young award rookie of the year Who do you think are the leaders for platinum glove winner of the best defenders in each league so platinum glove is the fan vote right. So that's after we got the goal glover's that's what fans bohdan on line. So we know that some of it is you know some popularity everything else. And so when. I look at the leaderboard for outs above average and i see that matt chapman is third among all all players. Excuse me Actually he's tied for second. He is tied for second in the majors in outs above average matt chapman always wins these types of things so i am guessing that it could be him but in the national league. It's interesting nick. Ahmed is really always at the top of these leaderboards. When you look at above average not sure that being on the diamondbacks he's usually The tape of guy. Who's going to win the platinum. That's why i was clarifying With the fan vote. But if i mean what about brandon crawford. He's having such a resurgent season and we know. Giants fans are obviously very vocal voting. Online i think back to some All star games back in those even years. Aw previous even years. But he's Let's see he's six. He's tied for fifth. Excuse me in house above average among all players in the majors. He's a noted previous glove winner. He had really bad defensive year. he's now back. I think he could be a good one in the national league. And just real quick before you go The other day we were in the dugout with joe man at the just before the little league classic and it was making a case passionately about david fletcher. His second baseman winning a gold love this year handicap that you know. I love when manager support their players. And i think that is kind of what's going on here and i don't fault him whatsoever. David fletcher has been good at second base. No question is plus one ounce above average. that means he's above Above the major league average which is just set at zero. But i don't know that he has been necessarily Above and beyond special there. I think that you know given all the positions you've played in his career. I think it's really great to see that. He is playing so well at second base. After you know. He was plus eight in outs above average at third base in two thousand nineteen. I mean basically being an entirely different position. But i'm not sure that he would be the clubhouse later they're all right. Sarah thanks for doing this. Thing's driving me bleacher.

"Going on everybody and welcome back into this segment. Will i should say this. Episode of the gmc baseball podcast. Now we have a little bit of decent show for you today. If you have been paying attention to major league baseball recently than you know that the field of dreams will be played on. And i'll i'll tell a little bit of a story about that here in a second about me actually getting to play on the field of dreams which is really cool so i have a similar experience or at least i have something that relates to actually getting to play on the field of dreams which is something that not a lot of people can say But first we're gonna be so we're gonna talk about that at first we're gonna talk about the real go so baseball past and the blackhawks scandal then after that we're gonna be talking about shoeless joe jackson and then finally will after jackson. We'll be talking about draft picks that got away. 'cause recently the mets did not sign their graphic. And we want to talk about or look at some draft picks. They ended up getting away from other people. And then or other teams. I should say. And then we're gonna finish today's episode ending with a standings update for you all and this is the last episode that i will be up here. My next episode is the last episode. That i will have earned that i won't be in my own apartment again so i'll have a better setup there Once i finally get everything set up but this is the last one that should have really any major echo in it and with that being said. Let's get right into this episode. I know it took us a while to get in it but brock holt is the first guy i want to talk about today. In this guy he pitched last year for the nationals. And josh harrison had any ended up pitching on august seventh for the rangers of this time. Around josh harrison had seen the veteran utility man brockhall pitch when they were teammates on the nationals last year but he had no idea what he was coming up for when he took the mound in the eighth inning to pop up to mop up in the rangers twelve to three loss against the athletics. Brock holt through a thirty one mile. An hour is pitch on the first pitch that he threw. It was the slowest fish to be called a strike. Since the pitch tracking aaron two thousand and eight and before saturday the slowest pitch ever recorded was forty one point three miles an hour. It was called a strike by austin. Do on june fourth this earlier this season when he did it for the red sox pitching against i believe it was the blue jays and e actually harrison says he actually pitched for us in dc last year. So i knew what was coming. What the scouting report was but actually facing in those a lot slower than i really remember. The plan was to see how slow i thorough it and still throw in still throw strikes said i was i was able to execute the plan to perfection today. I have some nice defensive. Plays behind me now. Some really good defensive plays so in the first the first time around. Brock holt Gives up a slow comebacker. Back to the mound. After off of josh airs afterward matt chapman gets his pitch a matt. Chapman sends a one liner into left field. Tries to stretch a into a double and just gets absolutely thrown out on a really good play by the ranger leftfielder. And then he try in both of those are all of those pitches. Were like eva speeches release slow and then he shows He basis tony. Kemp and tony camps hits in eighty three mile. An hour fastball. Up against the wall and the ranger rightfielder makes one heck of a play jumping up against the wall to make it and brought. It goes with one two three inning records the slowest pitch of all time. I just thought it was something really really interesting that we can. We can talk about a little bit. Now let's actually get into the substance of today's episode. Which is the black sox scandal. Now this is a very interesting situation because this is actually the reason that there's a commissioner of baseball like at all in my opinion. I think the baseball commissioner has been probably one of the worst commissioners Air like like out of out of the three major sports. I would say that basketball in the nfl have had much better commissioners than the that i would say baseball has had with the banning of some of these guys And other other actions against certain players that i think would have grown the game tremendously and yada yada yada. You people don't care about that. We want to know about the field of dreams. And what's going on there and wow you are absolutely right. I need to stop talking about that. But what is the field dreams and this might come as a little bit of a shock to some of you guys but you know that movie the field of dreams where the one where the iowa farmer builds baseball field on his farm and then a bunch of old time baseball players are ghost but on unless they're on the field where they can play baseball. It's it's definitely a work of fiction and it's just a movie but shoeless. Joe jackson was the namesake of the book that inspired that movie. Any inspired many other figures from the early twentieth century. Baseball player to play a role in the story of kevin costner's ray rape concetta like it was like jews. Jackson was just one of those guys that that played a major part of it. But here's a look at the real life baseball players that depicted the famous events. The one thousand nine hundred and black sox scandal had an unusual relevance at the box office in the night in the late nineteen eighties because just seven months before the release was the field of dreams april of eighteen or nineteen eighty nine. Hollywood dramatizes the story of the blackhawks via the september nineteen eighty-eight release of eight men out which was based on elliott osnos book of the same name and at the time long before free agency and godley player contracts that we see right now. Eight members of the one thousand nine hundred white sox shoeless joe jackson. Eddie colo- chick gandel oscar..

"It's fair and when. I'm doing that kind of work. Of course all right so the main course we are up to agnes the nosy neighbor of wanda envision in one division which has been just a phenomenon for disney plus. I think it was satiated. The appetites of marvel fans who were starved during the pandemic they had they were supposed to have had black widow all kinds of things that got put off and so the first new marvel content after over a i think at least about a year. Was you guys rolling out with this. Which i enjoy marvel movies and stuff but i have never been as into something. They've done as this. Because i think it's it's it's plays on so many different levels and the fact that the to the sitcom eras are so smart and well done and all of it So i guess just to begin with you had sort of been i guess part of that universe with spiderman into the spider verse. But how does it come about that. You're now going to be alive full character in one of their projects. I know i mean talk about like not knowing what the future's going to hold. I had walked my managers set up a general over there. And i guess with these generals you could never hear from them again or could be something three years down the line or at number no so. It was just a random general with lou and mary lou and d'esposito mary levinas and they at the end of it. They walk me down the hall and they said oh. I think you know matt chapman. I think you guys People in common and my husband had worked with him. He used to run a theater. Company called the black dahlia in los angeles and. He told me that he was he. Was you know directing the series for disney plus. That's it and then the next day or the day. After i mean it was like right on the heels. They were like would you come back. They wanna pitch you this part in this show and that was it was so weird and like i'm telling you scott like i couldn't in my childhood dreams. I couldn't have imagined like a part in this universe. That would have been more fun like it was the bonkers or like an arc. That would have been more fun. I to play an actor basic. No it's such an amazing range of. Because i think what people she knows they haven't seen it is for the first however many episodes were see you guys as in in the visual format of sixty sitcom seventies eighties nineties. I guess right up through the present and that requires a whole different style of actor with i would think in each one of them and and then of course revelations that i'm not going to spoil but i mean it it's it. Have you ever been asked to play a character. That is so big at times but be has so many different things to do. No it felt like we were back like like back a little town like we were doing like we were back at a summer reps like. That's what it felt like. I mean there are some days in which we're doing a bunch of time periods in one day and it felt that that joyful and the fact that we were able that there was always something kind of roiling underneath that we had like that we had the ability to to decide. At least my part had the ability to decide when and how and at what size things could poke through that was so That was always really fun to play around with like how much gas pedal and and like you said. The scale was really fun. Especially after having played such neurotic birds for chapter there. Kim felt very fun to just let loose a little bit. Like it's really fell fun to know as an actor..

"So if it's one of those things that might just talked about right short my contract this year the last portion on it we can negotiate all the all the details of what type of team you want me to go to where you want how you want control it. We can talk of all those things as long as this isn't last season i'm in green bay and listen. I said this before air roger's gonna play this year. He played for the packers. We don't know win but he's not going to sit out all seventeen games. He's gonna come back in do whatever he has to do now. I'm not sure how that works in green bay's organization but at the end of the day it gives both these organization and air and the the best chance to win the super bowl so i think he's smart enough to understand that part. I think he just wants his his time in green bay to be done at the end of this season irrespective of how we get it done this. Make sure at the end of this year. I'm walking out that door. Shefty thirty seconds give me a final word was a lot is going to be determined here in the next week. And i till they get that resolved. I don't think we see aaron rodgers. "I haven't done that greeting in a while realized. Yeah it's been busy. You've been busy here. She like moving up. And you're anura promoted role in everything. So i'm excited to have you back on the podcast today So why don't we talk a little bit about. There's too much news here but let's talk a little bit about the any nomination that came out earlier this week We don't have to spend a ton of time on this but just in case people have not followed. That may be interested once you hit us with some of the highlights of the shows and things like that that That pick up the most nominations dominance of the streaming services at this year's emmy award nominations the and the mandalorian were the leading nominees with twenty four nods. Each wanda vision was huge. To with twenty three nominations. So it's a it's big four for historical dramas and for john ratios. Apparently i have the feeling. This is my own theory. The separate from the speculation that has been going on the emmys. Emmys have been chasing. That game of thrones high for the past couple years and they have been attempting to capture that with the mandalorian and now as one division one division being slightly. Better show for that but still as kind of it's it's a very interesting sort of a crossroads at the end these have found themselves at this here totally in one of the other big stories of the night i guess was the ted lasso lockdown twenty nominations which i think is the first time a freshman show has ever been nominated that many times if you look at the like the supporting actor category for example. There's just a ton of people from lasso there which was surprising even to me even somebody who really loves that show so Renomination is incredible. I haven't yet. But i know that you and everyone i know. Love it. the at lovecraft country also even those recently cancelled Got eighteen nominations and of course handmaid's tale earned eleven nods as the Ongoing favorite veteran. Now all right so if you guys want to know more about that obviously will link to the article in the show notes and it goes into more detail with all of the the major nominees and everything but We mentioned one division like you said that was the i guess the number two in terms of shows that have total nominations this year and the director of one division is named matt chapman and he just had a yesterday. Yes i think. This news came out yesterday That he had an interesting project that has sort of come across his desk that he has signed onto a she. Tell me about that one. Yeah matt chapman has been tapped. Direct the next star trek movie under bad robot productions and paramount pictures of the new star trek film Already a script by lindsey beer and geneva robertson and now match jackman will be behind the helm to direct And this will be the first star trek movie since trek beyond which was a full half decade ago now and The the first sort of main apart from those Those other projects around the quitted tarantino star trek movie that for probably not happen as well as the a noah holy star trek fo the. No hollywood yeah. I think there was talk of a star trek four. That was like going to reunite. Chris hemsworth with chris pine as well in there. There's just a lot of talk about a bunch of different star trek projects over the years. But i don't think we have any full confirmation yet that this new movie is going to bring back the chris pine crew. I think there was some some back and forth About that ethic what everybody settled on is that it's it's still like nobody's signed on quite yet But i wanted to ask you actually. Because i know that you're doing the tracking with time travel through time and space podcast with jacob that that covers star trek doctor. Who so with the new star trek movie being announced here and a director actually signing on sort of seeming like. Maybe this one is actually going to happen. What do you think about as a director of star trek film. I'm intrigued. I liked his direction in wanda vision. I think that he really committed to the bit if that makes sense because gone. Division was all about that ahmad to the separate. The distinctive eras in sitcom history. And he obviously has real passion and care for those things so he like he is able to distinguish himself in some sort of visual capacity Outside of just like that marvel how style even though that's what one division ended up falling to But i it's too soon for me to tell exactly what his style is yet. It it I think there are some real good promise in those first two episodes when We got some more visual flares. Outside of just the sitcom omar djing style. So that was that was interesting. But i it's hard to say like how he will be a behind the star trek movie which is even more action packed than one division even was later in the in its season. So yeah. I'm i'm intrigued. It's too early for me to say like what i'm excited. Yeah i don't really know what to expect yet. Yeah i mean looking at some of his other tv work like i thought. He handled drama and action really. Well when he directed game of thrones and then he's done a bunch of it's always sunny in philadelphia episodes so he can handle a comedic side of things too in the at least the the chris. Pine era star trek films have had have always had an injection of humor into them. so yeah. I'm i'm curious to see what comes of this. Like what exactly the take is going to be on this movie. Because like we've said there's been so many star trek possibilities thrown around And as the the shows sort of took over once again on. Cbs l. access which is now paramount. Plus so all right. So there's one thing here The new story that i'll be honest. I don't have a ton of familiarity with but the the the prospect conceit of what's going on here is interesting. i think it'll be interesting to you to itchy. So there is a a very famous fantasy series of books called wheel of time that was by an author named robert jordan and amazon is actually developing wheel of time into a show. They've been working on a show for several years at this point and we just learned this week that a movie that is sort of set in that same world has gotten a writer basically zacks stents who wrote x men first class and the first thought movie in several other things has been hired to write this film called age of legends which.

"I think it took him a little while to get used to play next to Matt Chapman Cause Chapman's the third baseman who rages so far to his left. So sometimes Andrews is like wondering, Do I need to go to this ball to my right Or does Chappie habit? I don't know. And it seems like their communications got better as the years gone on, and they just love them in terms of personality and leadership, So I I would be absolutely shocked that they even went for any shortstop at all, to be honest, and he's a guy who knows the division. As you pointed out a veteran but a guy who's been around for a long time, and I think a lot of managers in baseball would tell you I'd rather have the defensive shortstop than the shortstop who can hit because you needed me there. Captain that infield up the middle in thinking about other guys who are great with the glove you mentioned Matt Chapman, Matt Olsen, man. This the first tier of voting is finished. Or we're into the final tier of voting for this All Star team, and Matt Olsen, who's like ranks second or first in almost every offensive category for first basement is nowhere to be found. This is I don't want to say it's a travesty. It comes down to fan vote. Obviously, the Hazara smaller fan base and what's even like a niche fan base, but This is a guy who needs to be getting the attention across baseball because he's a guy who absolutely If if the season ended today, Steve he'd be an M V P candidate. What do you make of this voting system? Do we need a different system? Do we need heavier player vote? Is there a way to go about this differently? I mean, odds are he makes the All Star team anyway as a as a reserve. But the fact that he's not even being considered as one of the top first baseman is He's kind of a travesty. Yeah, I think he's in fifth right now, even if you had like any sort of different system vitamin Guerrero Jr not only has the name recognition from his dad, but also he's been a monster all season. He's you know, he's a Triple Crown candidates so also, and I think he's got a better glove. But I think flag would have been the starter. No matter what system that you use, so I really know if it's that big video. He's going to make the team. There's no way he doesn't make the team is the reserve. And then one way that maybe when he gets there that he can sort of make a little bit bigger Name for himself on the national stage is competing the home run Derby. Melvin has been outspoken, saying that he should do that if he's able to and I think that we'll see that and people actually see that one thing about Olson. That's really interesting. Yeah, He's a two way player in terms of the fact that he can play great defense and you can hit And he's actually hitting for high averages here. But he's got one of the prettiest swings, if not the prettiest, left handed swing in baseball. People don't know that because the ace plan the West Coast and their team like you said, sort of a niche market, even though they're in the Bay Area. Not many people know what it looks like to see medals and really lay into one. So if he gets into the home run Derby and pulls a U. N assessments and goes crazy, I think that he's going to have a much higher profile as time goes on, and then you're gonna have Yankees fans all say, Oh, When are we gonna get Matt Olsen? That's that's the way it goes in Oakland. Was often Yankee fans ask when is he on our team? Just sort of on that note on the way out here. I look at the infield here and, you know, obviously Marcus Semien leaves after last season. He's the guy who had hoped the A's would bring back just being that he was a local guy. Matt Chapman is obviously a quarter stone type franchise player that Olson as well across the diamond give a feel on which guy would be more likely to stick around. I get the feeling Matt Olsen. Is a guy who could be in Oakland a for a long time while Matt chap, and I know there's been no real talk about it, but it feels like he's a guy who would who would depart Oakland for another city? Well, we have the whole Howard terminal thing in the balance, so I think that's a part of it. But although if even if our terminal that passes with the city and they're able to actually break ground at some point it's going to be you know, several years before they're able to get that site ready and build a stadium and open it up and days of said, You know, explicitly, we're not going to really expand the payroll until we have a new stadium. Yeah, it would be tough. I think at this point to to trade Chapman because I think it's value is a little bit on the downside coming off the hip surgery. He's hitting better these days. But he started off pretty slowly. Also, if you could actually traded for a pretty nice bounty at this point, but I think they're not going to do that. With the postseason in the balance. I think they're going to still go for it. They're going to be buyers, not sellers at the deadline turn of extension. If you had to make me guess I would say that I would agree with you that also to be the most likely to end up staying in Oakland for the long haul. But you will see it could be. It could be neither of them. But it would be hard to imagine that both of them would stay, even though they both really like each other. And like playing for the A's Steve Great stuff, Man. The only thing we need you to work on us finding out where coal Irv and picked up his doughnuts for Sunday Star fan and then you'll you'll be you'll be on top of your game is the ace beat guy Man. I'm on it. And then obviously the next step would be. I would have to actually do a taste test for a future story as well, You know, and maybe expensive to the athletic. I don't know if they're allowed me to expense donuts, but it's worth a shot. It's not too expensive, and that's the move. Dude, that's how you get some donuts. You say Cole. I want to write a feature on you go into Bob's and see how you put your order in and then you follow him around for a day and take him up to Powell and.

"I understand ballpark makes a difference. But what's going on here? This staff has become one of the better staffs in the National League, and I think even more so than the offense. Really nobody could see this coming. Yeah. This is that the area That really surprises me the most. I do think that the catching has something to do with it. And the coaching staff. You know, they've, uh, the Giants kind of like the A's for a while. Have now a reputation where this is a good spot for a free agent to go to kind of rejuvenate their career. They are so good at using data. And, you know, just kind of logic, really about a guy's personal what might work what they're big in the pitch shapes and the main idea there is if you've got two pictures that are kind of similar, um You know you want to throw those both to the same area. Remember? It used to always be changi levels. That's kind of not the theory anymore. It's more like through different pitches, that kind of look the same to the same area and that's how you're going to really confused guys and you that you do You see the hesitation and they have really been great at getting guys to kind of home map hold their pitches. To get the pitch shapes to the point where it's hard to figure out what exactly is coming, you know, is it the breaking pitch is that you know something else. So, uh, I think they are going to continue to really attract a lot of very good pictures. Free agent pitchers. Now it would be a lot better to have guys that were under team control. And this is where I think that Trade deadline is going to be important. I think the Giants definitely need another starter. I think they would like to get somebody that has club control beyond this year because they potentially are losing some of the other guys. But you know, Guardsmen would like to come back. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sclafani would like to come back, so they'll have some options. But the trade deadline really, really will be important and then you know you mentioned if it's built, if it looks like belt has a season ending injury that also might be an area that they now have to kind of look. And I'm glad you went there as far as the trade deadline because that segues to my next question, which is Farhan has has He's proven a master right at assembling a roster where you're getting the most out of the the bottom of your depth chart. Right? The the Darren Rough and and it was Slater and talk man and Duggar and Lamont waited and guys who were supposed to be, you know, bit players, really if at all, Um and and now we're making an impact in one way or another. How much do you rely on that when you're trying to win a pennant, right? You're no longer a team that is trying to, you know, stay above water. Be a 500 team gets set to compete in 2022 right. Those story lines are now all out the window. You know, you've got to be and win now mode with the record that you have at this point in the season, So how do you How aggressive do you think they will be when it comes to July, 31st and going out and making moves. I think they'll be very aggressive and I the far hunt had told me on the Chronicle podcast that he that he believes ownership is not going to be afraid to take on, um, salary, so if they can pick off, you know a good starter who maybe has a good chunk of change coming to him. I think they would certainly consider that, um, the position player injuries. That's trickier, right? It's harder to get position players midseason that it is pitching sometimes, um, especially somebody. That's a very reliable but there might be somebody available, so I think they would rather do that. And then you know, they've been so carefully assembling their minor league teams and getting together top prospects and improving the system. I think if they can throw throw money out there, I think that's probably the ways they would prefer to go. But they also have a lot of depths. As we've seen in the outfield with utility players they could package of saying No, You're not going to get a ton for, say, Mike talk, man. But, um, you know, you might get some, uh, some people who show a lot of interest in, say, Duggar. Dickerson. Or, you know some of these guys. If you feel like you have maybe a little excess in some of these areas rather than giving up, you know, maybe a your 15th best prospect or something. You know it's going to be fascinating to watch what they do over the next couple of months before I let you go. Susan, I want to take you back to your A's days. I just I need to ask you about what's going on with Matt Chapman because, you know slow starts. Ton of strikeouts seemed to be coming out of his funk the last couple of weeks, but you watch him last night and particularly, you know, the at bat. I'm referring to where, you know, Strike Strike three at the pitch over his head. It's like I are You really seeing the ball that poorly that you're swinging at that? What do you make of Chapman? Who was a guy who, you know, theoretically wanted to be a $300 million guy not long ago and you know, is struggling to keep it above the Mendoza line this year. Well, you know, he ended last season on the injured list. Obviously, uh and he just doesn't. He still doesn't quite look right. It might just be one of those not epidemic season, then getting hurt workout very interrupted, and maybe just quite not getting its timing back and trying to do too much. We've certainly seen that over the years. You know that can happen. The more you try. Sometimes the worst. I guess you start listening to too many different people who've got too many things in your head. He looks a little, um, lost as the wrong word. But like he is over thinking maybe a little bit and trying too hard. Uh, sometimes the worst thing you can do in baseball if he just kind of goes back to being himself. I think he'll be fine. Matt Chapman is not somebody I ever worry about. The talent is Off the charts. No doubt, no doubt and still a gold glove. Third baseman. Alright, Susan, we'll let you go. I know you've got a busy day Big Game two tonight in this series, have fun at the yard and we will catch up with you soon. Fantastic. Thanks. God. Alright anytime. Susan Slusser San Francisco Chronicle Yep. Looking forward to another night, another evening of of Giants and Ace Fun weekend baseball. You're in the Bay area. Okay, we'll take a break. "Swinging a ground ball. Right side. Let me you missed. It weighed gets it goes to the covering Chapman and he dropped the ball. Oh, it would have been the final out of the game, and Chapman dropped the throne from Wade from short right field. So the A's will bring the tying run to the plate. Wow. I mean, that had trouble written all over it once he got past the Mayhew but good athlete in her oldest Chapman. Nice job. By way, giving him a feed, and that's just on Chapman. Just not able to hold onto a lot going on. They're trying to slow down, put his foot on the base. And then also Lock in the throw. But I think Chapman would tell you. He's got to make that catch. The official score at Yankee Stadium is deemed it a hit, But I would agree with you. That's a All the Chapman should catch. It is going to be a single for Olson, his third hit of the game. And cattle went to third on the play. Stretched out a little bit to his right, Chapman. But Maybe a little bit tougher for Left handed. Fielder with a glove on the right hand, but still a play he should make. He did not. And Here's Ramon Laureano, representing the tying run. 74 Yankees two on Two out. And the top of the ninth. Mariano against the Yankees, who were the team that he says inspired him to play baseball growing up in Puerto Rico. First pitch. Fastball grounded through the right side base hit Laureano in the HR alive. Canada is in Olson to second Laureano to first tying runs on base. 75 of the ninth as Laureano single, extends the game and we'll bring up Matt Chapman. Cool. And not just the tying run on base. But the go ahead run at the plate in Matt Chapman see if he can put together equality at bat. To get the A's back into this ball game. And it will be Chapman versus Chapman, Matt against Aroldis. After a visit from the Yankee pitching coach Matt Blake. What a great game. This has been. At Yankee Stadium. Runners in scoring position seemingly every inning. Big moments late. And the ease looking to Stunned this. Pinstripe team in this Yankee Stadium crowd down 75 of the ninth now. With two on two out. And Matt Chapman, representing Go ahead run. He has already homered today. They come back and win this ball game. It's not fair. It's like big brother playing with little brother where he's just destroying little brother and then let some kind of even things up and then you know, he thinks he's got a chance and then just takes it off the table.

"On this. Show that this. This series was making me wanna speculate right because that's what it's designed to do good at doing that. They made you guess because the cliffhangers was great. It was a mazda was a cliffhanger but there was like a yukon. Set yourself up with a direct message summation and to have one ago cost members out there being like. Hey we have luke skywalker level fucking cameo in the final episode. You conder- that you just can't. I'm sorry you just absolutely got any. Have you shave shea. Said the shade like elizabeth olten said that and then i'll nine i listen paul betty goes. Oh yeah. there is a character that i've always as an actor always wanted to work with my career and i'm going to get a chance to work with him later on in the series and he's obviously telling jerk talking about himself so you know like you can't start defies like that and then you have matt chapman then not before the episode drops writes the mind before he releases type in being like. Hey he actually ended a question to journalists being like. I know why poll said that i think he collects that us up to fail but like i just want everyone to temper their expectations that it might not be what you're expecting for the director of all nine episodes inside out the not before. The premiere of the finale drops is pretty wild. Give me josh trank flashbacks. A little bit. I think the what probably didn't help is the the chris evans necessarily because having him in the shire like obviously fan theories. Crossover with x men. Crossover fox chris barnes. Sorry chris wrong evan. also in america was yemen. You gotta like it's the ri- it's only for second. It's the split cabinet now. But i think like yeah it makes good for headlines so the marketing departments probably cheer the published departments probably charon. But the fans are all going to be you know. Obviously they're gonna assume the craziest things but at the end of the day. Marvel never gonna wanna crossover with those movies. I think same reason why they don't spiderman crossing benham because they have such protection of their of everything which is still like. I don't wanna get too far into it. Put these spiderman rumors like which seems legitimate. Now like i'm. I'm trying to tampa my expectations for that too because marvel of very protective of their properties. "You build up to it here. Dave Nolan Aaron Otto traded to the Cardinals getting applause or something. Dave. What's the What's the What's the payoff here? We're gonna build up. We're still we're still rampant their radio thing, But you can tell that was not playing. David started hitting a drum rolls and Chris is going. What are you doing with this? Yeah, it started with no winner Renato of the Colorado Rockies getting moved to the ST Louis Cardinals, which for Giants fans, you're like, Damn, That's not a bad man. The Cardinals when they plucked Paul Goldschmidt a couple of years ago from the Arizona Diamondbacks, another pulling the best third baseman in baseball. Yeah, I'm saying it. Matt Chapman is right there, probably and if it comes to gloves That's happened is personally I probably given the edge over Nolan Aaron. I know and no one. They're not home. I tell you that match. Chapman of the A's is the better third baseman. However, as an all around player, the guy was gonna drive in 130 runs over here and Have 35 home runs. Does it shock you to know that no one ever not already has more gold gloves and Scott Rolen got rolling six for his career. We looked at him like he was the the next coming of Brooks Robinson. You don't mean that third base and here's Aaron. Ah built dude taking balls from his knees like 15 ft into foul territory. Anyway, I thought that was kind of good news. I was like, Damn, this is this is big for the Giants. One of the big bats. One of the all time giant killers now out of the division would have to worry about him anymore. Timlin sickened by the way, somewhere, looking around going like man, Goldschmidt and error. In auto out of this division. Like what? Away that now, If the Giants could only get Wil Myers out of the NL West will be in, we'll be in pretty good shape, but he's hanging around, at least for now, with the slam, Diego Padres. Then we get to Saturday and this was the one that kind of rocked the weekend, I think and mostly because 40 Niner fans, we were all dialed into this thing, And this is what sort of crack me up over the last week is we get a lot of I'm not trying to hammer anybody. Everybody's trying to find their outlet, everybody trying to find their platform. But there were a lot of reports from from We'll call them. Blog's will call them like we can call it 49 or Twitter. If you want to call it that it's just kind of that zone where there were quote reports that the 40 Niners were finalizing a deal. None of the major 40 Niner beat writers have this Cam Newton where Cam Inman wasn't reporting this Matt Miyoko was not reporting this. Jennifer Lee Chan was not reporting this basically, none of the 40 Niners beat writers were reporting that it was a done deal. And as you can imagine, or I think, as we know now, there were gonna be a ton of teams in on matched effort. That Stafford was going to be the quarterback that more teams were in on them to Shawn Watson because he was probably more attainable. And if you look at what the Detroit Lions were able to get for Matt Stafford, I think a lot of people would say, Boy, the Lions may have won that trade. It was Ah Hall based on the number of first rounders they got. They got a third rounder. This year. They got a first rounder next year and the first rounder in 2023 from the lion from the Rams in exchange as well as Jared Goff in exchange. For Matt Stafford. So if you're if you've been under a rock for the last couple of days matched effort now in L. A ram, which sends kind of ripples and reverberations around the league. We knew how many teams were in on quarterbacks this year. If you're a 40 Niner fan, and you're looking at the quarterback situation, you've now got to beg the question. Value versus what you have in house, right? Would you have rather given up the amount of equity and draft capital That the Rams did to get a guy like matched effort. Now, the counter to that is that the Rams the other questions are the Rams closer to competing yet again, then the 40 Niners Rams. We're just in the playoffs. The Rams have the number one defense in the NFL this year in four seasons of Sean McVeigh. It's a three playoff berths. One time they were the number one seed in the NFC West they made were it were the two. We have to go back and check that season shot McVeigh's first year remember, they had the bye week. That was Jimmy's first year. That was all part of the five game win streak at the end of that season, where The Rams come to town. They end up sitting all their players week. 17 Jimmy beats the Rams. They end up getting their bye week, and then they get rolled out of the first round. It was the two weeks off the rest versus rust. So the question now is, And maybe it's a philosophical thing between the 40, Niners and the Rams. And it's true. The Rams have been one of the more volatile or liberal with their their draft picks and their money spending since John McVeigh showed up, then maybe any team in football. Check this out. The Rams now after moving their draft picks this year and next year, and the year after the as of right now have not used a first round draft pick that belonged to them since 2016. It was the year they drafted Jared Goff number 1 2016 before Sean Shopping Day as a head coach. The Rams has never made a selection in the first round of the NFL draft, and that crazy and he's coached a Super Bowl. And he's been to the playoffs three times, and he's got the number one defense in the league. It's crazy stuff. So the other part of this is there a team that every year because of the amount of money they spend because of their philosophy on bringing in these sort of high priced veteran proven players. They went. They got Jalen Ramsey they went in. They got in Dominican Sue a couple years ago. Remember, they went, they actively sought out. Brandon cooks through him on their roster and you keep thinking. How do they keep adding these players? They've got so much money allocated to Aaron, Donald and Jalen Ramsey and actually after they signed Jared Goff. To that extension a couple years ago. You're going, boy. They're gonna be committed to this guy for $140 million. Which begs the question this offseason. Why would you move Jared Goff. If you just pay him or why would you pager and golf and then look to turn around and move him. And I think the answer to that is it's just sort of the nature of doing business with the quarterback in today's game in 2020 and 2021 after they go to a Super Bowl a couple years ago, you can't allow Jared Goff to just walk away. You can't say that's it. He's gone because we didn't win the bull. You've got to make sure you've got somebody under contract because one of the worst situations in football to be in is to roll into a season or an off season with a quarterback who would have done you better than anybody who's out there on the free agent market. Have a trade market this offseason is obviously different, and you start to wonder about like I was shocked to hear that the Carolina Panthers We're in.
