"It's 25 till on America in the morning, AccuWeather dot com, meteorologist Matt Benz, is tracking the latest storm system moving across the nation, a weather pattern here over the coming days and right through this weekend shifting almost into overdrive as we see a big dip in the jet stream called a trough moving into the Pacific Northwest that will transition east here through today across the middle of the country and this drought separating the relatively warm air across the south central U.S. to the colder air that is still found across the north central U.S. and these boundaries mean and we'll see several systems developing across this region over the coming days. Today, this first system expected to move from the central plains into the upper Midwest for today as an area of low pressure drags a cold front across the central and southern plains we expect thunderstorms to erupt here into this afternoon and evening from eastern Nebraska and western Iowa southward through Texas. These storms can pack a punch here later on today through this evening with damaging winds and hail being the main concerns, but an isolated tornado can not be ruled out as well. Heavy rainfall expected across portions of northern Iowa through eastern Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is not a good setup with regards to what is on the ground right now, and that's a lot of snow, especially across western Wisconsin, where some areas saw as much as one to two feet of snow earlier this week, and that will lead to a rapid snowmelt with a lot of this moisture running directly into local streams and rivers, flooding will be a concern here over the coming days, especially across the upper Midwest, especially on the upper reaches of the Mississippi River. Father west, we are watching another Pacific storm moving into the Pacific Northwest bringing the chance for showers and some rumbles of thunder and places like Seattle and Portland, snow showers across a high plains of Montana with snow showers into no other North Dakota here for today. This marine clouds across the central rockies, otherwise dry across the southeastern mid Atlantic for today, some rain and snow showers across northern New England. "25 tail on America in the morning, this last Friday of winter, bringing some snow for some. Here's AccuWeather dot com, meteorologist Matt Benz. This latest storm well, it's mainly a rainmaker, at least for most places across the eastern U.S. outside of the Great Lakes while there can be some snowflakes mixing in across northern upstate New York, maybe through the higher elevations of northern New England, mostly rain, but it doesn't mean we will not turn colder as we head into this weekend. In fact, a pretty significant cold shot of air for a good chunk of the eastern U.S. here through this weekend and once again, perhaps the frost or freeze thread across the southeast and mid Atlantic as we head into Sunday morning and perhaps Monday morning as well. But for today, mainly rain across most of the northeast and mid Atlantic for today across the southeast and south central U.S. from Louisiana, eastward towards Georgia. That's where we will see the risk for severe thunderstorms for today. These are the same storms that brought severe weather yesterday afternoon across the south central plains, especially around the Dallas Fort Worth area that got hit hard by severe weather here late in the day yesterday. These storms today will contain the threat for heavy rainfall damaging winds, but isolated tornadoes can not be ruled out as well. Shaping up to be a very active weather pattern here from the West Coast to the east coast here for today as we are tracking several systems moving across the region and even though the calendar says it's march. It's going to feel more like February with regards to snow across portions of the U.S. over the next couple of days. Our first storm that we're tracking moving through the Great Lakes to the east coast here for today. This will bring mainly snow across portions of Wisconsin and in northern Illinois, lower Michigan, leads to start the day into the early afternoon. This will be our main concern for where we'll see slippery roads here to start the day as that's where we'll see the best chance for any snow accumulations. As you head east, we'll see a mix over to rain and snow across portions of the Ohio valley into the central appalachians east of the appalachians here for today, mainly rain, especially for this afternoon from places like Philadelphia, northward towards New York City, though some snow can mix in for these areas heading into tonight, mainly rain then as you head south across Virginia and across the Carolinas and vaccine thunderstorms could erupt as well at times for today from southern South Carolina. "matt benz" Discussed on KOMO
"Welcome back to first light. I'm Linda, Kenya, It seems we've been stuck with the same weather pattern over the last couple of days. Accuweather dot com Meteorologist Matt Benzes here, Matt any chance that weather pattern will change this weekend? Hey, Linda for a lot of locations, especially east of the Rockies. It's been basically on whether repeat mode over the last few days, in fact, a good chunk of this week if you have been along the Gulf Coast, Texas and Louisiana, where they've seen just a torrential amounts of rainfall. Falling and that will continue to be the case here for today. Unfortunately, another round of heavy rainfall expected across Louisiana and eastern Texas as a fire hose of moisture continues to move off the Gulf of Mexico. So another round of perhaps flooding rain For today, the good news is there is an end in sight. This moisture plume will begin to shift westward heading into this weekend, so hopefully areas that have been hit hard with rain over the last few days. Will begin to dry out at least a bit into this weekend. Now, this plume of moisture moves northward up through the central and northern US with some showers and thunderstorms expected through at least the Great Lakes to the west. A new storm system will continue to roll through the Rocky Mountains. This will deliver some showers, mainly in the higher elevations of the Pacific Northwest through the Sierras, perhaps even some showers across the Great basin where it is cold enough. There could even be some rain and snow at times. Specially the across the high plains of Montana up into the prairie provinces of Canada. This will head towards Northeast heading into this weekend across the eastern U. S. Where high pressure is dominated the weather pattern it will continue to dominate heading into this weekend. So the Southeast US continued dry, pleasant conditions at least two this weekend, perhaps a shower thunderstorm across the Northeast here for today. Tomorrow and Sunday as temperatures begin to rebound. Find out the latest for your location, download the AccuWeather after day, and it's always have a great day. Linda. Thanks, Matt.
