"So you are man. In tokyo we talked to you last when you were marveling at the robots sinking half court shots at the men's basketball games. Were going to get to men's basketball on a sack. We'll get to russell. Westbrook ben simmons because my soul still has not recovered from that saga with the sixers. But you're on the precipice of week two of the olympics and the last time we talked to you you were extraordinarily disoriented and you had a giant jar of peanut butter. So what's the mood in tokyo. These days the japanese are doing great and he's olympics ryan windhorst a week into covering the olympics from tokyo. They've won more gold medals than they ever had seen olympics. There are still protests happening but From watching the reaction of the japanese success and talking to my friends who are consuming japanese media the games have come a long way in the eyes of the japanese. and so. that's kind of ben this This whole this whole experience. You make the best of your situation. And the japanese have made the best of it and and are thriving are yes so i know you're you're still in quarantine right but you're getting out to see events and stuff. What did you see today. Yeah i went to the men's golf today and For the first time since the gulf became a sport again The us wanted the andrew. Shaw flea who is number five ranked player in the world. "Those all those ozzy's wearing green and gold that they can look to Whenever they're playing and that's where it's something so again it all just kind of comes back to everyone here wanted to be here and they made it something really really great now. It doesn't hurt when hideaki. Decky matsuyama is fully in contention. Not just for a metal. But it was in contention for the gold for a decent amount of his weekend and i mean. I thought that they were hundreds of volunteers but then it became like maybe five hundred volunteers and then all of a sudden. It's like wait. Are there thousand volunteers out here. There's this like just big blue mass of they're all wearing the same blue shirt all over the golf course Basically following decky every way everyone so that doesn't hurt when you're trying to hype up the sport at the olympics. Yeah i mean watching on tv. And i'm giving you credit for being tired. I was the one up till you know thirty. Am over here watching on tv. It was sort of unbelievable to see how it went from. You know early in the week. You really believed this idea that there were no fans in attendance and then by sunday afternoon. That final group with You know zander hit decky. There were a lot of people in the background. There were a lot of people following along watching. The the announcers were joking that everyone else must have abandoned their posts and all the volunteers and just kind of congregated around that final group. But yeah let's get the good stuff. Let's get to zander. shaw. Because i know you spend a bunch of time around him this week You wrote a really excellent game story for golf. Dot com that people can find up there featuring a bunch of stuff with his father. Ogre aka yoga. Yeah stephan shaw. Who made a rare golf channel appearance. Actually after the the wind but your stuff with him was clearly more comfortable in an insightful. All right but first zander. Because let's just talk about this wind really quickly. This is a career changing victory for zander's softly and not just because you know. Obviously it's the olympic gold. It would change anybody's careered some extent but this is a guy without a career defining victory. This is a guy who has now quite one major championships. He's become famous for getting close and not quite performing but his game also rises to the occasion and big events so he keeps putting himself there the fact that he got up and down for par on eighteen from one hundred yards is the difference between us having this conversation. We're having an un having a very different less pleasant conversation and you know having to say uncomfortable things about a guy that i know. We like watching play golf. So i mean what was it like watching zander's schlafly. He was in such supreme control for the first thirteen holes I i was like there's no way he loses wh- when he birdied one in two obviously dropped a bomb onto. You could just tell like holy cow. This guy is locked in. He's going to do it today..

"It was a slaw but over few years we got all the veteran contracts with these workup bonuses now. Five nine dollars at the packers. Oh for these workup. Bonuses are those guys can skip the workouts. No and then there's a report the nfl pa is not going to be hard ass on the teams that have these large workout bonuses. The second part is the per diem. The young players get two hundred and thirty five or two hundred fifty dollars a day in maybe even higher than that for working out as long as they do a minimum before workouts a week. They can't just get to thirty five for one day. Leave so that is not big money at any stars but it's meaningful money to some of these marginal on the fringe players. So that's something that's going to be a fight. We'll see what happens with these workouts I think already subbranch mcmanus of the denver broncos saying yeah we gotta rethink this. We didn't know it was coming in phases. Were not really on the field. So mar may mid mace late may. So let's see where this goes but it's interesting to watch a team like the packers. Good luck keeping all these guys off from getting their huge workout bonuses other teams. Don't do work up on us. I had to do it. I thought it was important if you're far to texas team you probably don't have to go. They're gonna be there anyway and maybe now they won't be there of the spike going on. Okay i guess my final comment on that is. I've been critical. I wish the nfl pa fought the seventeenth game as hard as they're fighting offseason workouts. That's my comment. There and other concessions like a ten year. Cba like giving up the recent revenues only getting to forty eight percent over the eleven year period. So anyway they've chosen this battle. The still diane and we'll see where it goes Meyler rant is about vaccinations and is just a news. Item of saw the buffalo bills requiring. Vaccinations this i think is going to be interesting to follow. Because first of all can you do it. With the legalities there will be lawyers. Wanna go to games. That aren't vaccinated trying to get back. Or maybe they don't want to get vaccinated. How do you approach that. And what is going to be the proof. Ford is gonna be. Can't just get a carding those cards on ebay and film out. So it's got to be some kind of electronic passport that you've been vaccinated through health systems It's gonna be interesting fight because as soon as you tell people they have to be vaccinated to do anything to go to a game to get on a flight to do to to something. They feel like they've liberty to do with or without vaccination you have the antibac- sers it's going to be problem. Not you know my saying there will be lawyers. I think this is something to watch. The buffalo bills. And i believe the savers as well in buffalo. Saying we're gonna do this. And i'm thinking well maybe you won't because there will be lawyers and we'll see where this goes but we are at a precious time in this country where we have max mass. Vaccinations going on some people are still against it. Were changing the tide. Hopefully on this covid virus where we have a different attitude towards work towards education and of course towards sports was. I mean you know the owners they want fans in the seats they wanna make the revenues wonderful stadium like they're know baseball in texas so we'll see where this goes okay before we get our special guest A word from our other sponsor this week and it's lincoln lincoln talent solutions you know..

"Is about the national football league. Players association has made it a huge party. This offseason to have team stay away. So it's a little bit. Unlike last year in that teams are gearing up to have offseason workouts. Now it's not gonna be soon because you may know the nfl has these phases now. The offseason phase one is gonna be virtual and mental and learning in all that face to just a little bit of on field and then phase. Three from as something may twentieth. Something through the mid june is going to be on field workout. So i think that's what the nfl pa is really a up in arms about. Hey look we had a great season last year after not being in the facility not even having preseason games on having any training camp. Wait a great time last year. Why are we doing this. And we had fewer injuries last year. So all the things you worried about so this is jaycee shredder in the pa talking about but the question is can they do this now. We at this moment. We've had these hawks. The broncos the patriots and the tampa bay world champion of debris buck. Nears say yeah basically. We're not going now again. These are offseason workers. That are voluntary. And you have a couple issues with the money. And that's what i wanted to talk about here. Number one their off season workout bonuses now workup. Bonuses are negotiated into contracts if you participate in a certain requirement of workout sessions usually. It's eighty five or ninety percent depending on the team at the packers. I wrote it in. I believe eighty five percents of your at eighty. Five percent of the workouts. You get your bonus. What are the bonuses. Well they can be as low as five ten thousand dollars in his highs. Millions of dollars are hundreds of thousands of dollars is probably the highest and the highest team. Collective bonus amount for offseason. Workouts is migrate packers n. Yes you can blame this talker for that. Because when i got there no one was staying around green bay for offseason workouts. Everyone was staying wherever they were florida. Georgia texas california to do their workouts. Why would they come to. Green bay in the spring was still cold and do that. And when martin mccarthy came in he said we gotta get some accountability and availability with these guys have got to get him here and it was log a basically whenever contract came up ahead to change it. They're gonna make a million dollars. I'd take out one hundred thousand. You're making nine hundred thousand dollars and we're going to give the other hundred thousand in workout us eh. need sell a tomb with the fact that hey you get your money now in the spring instead of waiting for the fall. Isn't that good and usually you'd get along but you always get the fight. The player wants to send in his workouts from texas or florida california wherever he is and not have to be in green bay and that was not good enough. I realize we were geographically undesirable place. But i wanted to make it work and we did..

There's a building belief that the san francisco forty niners gonna take back jones out of alabama as opposed to just some fields. Now obviously we know that until they until we get there but that that to me is like where this whole draft now starts the shift because there are a lot of great wide receiver than this draft. There's some really good offensive. Linemen in this draft They're all sore three top running backs in the draft. And hopefully the jets will come out of this trap with one of those running backs whether it be an orgy. Harris out of alabama. That would one of those that kid harris is great. I love. I listened to a extended interview. Podcast with him. It was awesome. It was awesome. He's a great kid. Man he would be great for the jets. Raise your kids to be cornerbacks. These days because put golf clubs in her hands all that too. There is that but they're going to get drafted higher because of the way that the salary structure is sometimes they get overrated. There's going to be better players that are selected after these one hundred percent is no doubt. Yep and everybody's just trying to hit toronto hit on that great quarterback that you don't have to pay for a couple of years and then to make our own verse super bowl you as crazy as we all thought. The off season was going to be regarding the quarterbacks in the nfl the ones that are already established that has come to fruition. We've seen that now. "If on this particular track. Yeah, they could, you know, I think this is a good opportunity for Ricky to possibly get his first. Why are you saying that he drives it? Well he puts he's the best putter on tour. And so I think he can get his ball rolling out there coach has been playing playing golf for the most part all year. I just don't know if he can. He can last four rounds out there but yeah, I think this is a good year for Ricky. I mean he's, he's always contended while in the majors always played them. Well has great scoring averages. Just hasn't bumped one off yet fruits the foreigners. Decky Matsuyama, Jason day Francisco, Molinari, Adam Scott, Henrik Stenson Tommy Fleetwood, you see any standouts out of that group. I don't know if I see any standouts you had a couple of foreigners in your in your usual suspects. Rory roy. Open worthy in its Greek group, especially a few clued, Rory and Rome from the from your usual suspect group into in this one. I mean, it's, it's gonna be interesting. There's going to be a lot of guys, you can play this golf course very well. Rahm is such a talented guy. I just don't know if he's got the temperament for this for, for that kind of that kind of stage Jimmy. What about the, the troubled players? Jordan speeds Patrick read, you know, Sergio now two years after his masters win or faded a little bit. Bob is not having any kind of year, any dramatic change of fortune might be in store for anyone on those guys, the only one I would say speed of those four guys Sergio. No, he's going to blame. Everybody in her mother about the golf course conditions to emotional same with patch. Agreed. I don't think that any one of those three even stands liquor chance. I'd I'd be willing to bet did two of those three don't make the cut first of all, and speed. I, I would think has the even keel like Michael mentioned earlier with, with Ricky that, he's got that even keel that he can. Bad stuff happening to him when he hits a good shot. I think Ricky could accept it. Well, so do I think, same Jordan, really quickly table. Michael go, first tiger I in is I in onto a rather in Greece and regulation at both the PGA and at the memorial by his own admission. He struggled pulling his tee shot hook and his shots thoughts on his chances here. I think his chances are good. If he gets you said, if he gets that T-ball going, it probably why was kind of pulling them and hooking them. One a little bit of rust in to a little bit. Still being tired. I think is body, just isn't handling things that the way he thought it was going to work out. He's in great shape. But just a little tired brooch thoughts on tiger's chances. Of course. And if he if he pulls it like he wants to do. I mean, he does from time to time to cut and doesn't get the cut it's not as devastating on at Pebble Beach. Is it is on some other places. So you know tiger never ever count him out. He's play well. And if he puts, well, look out he loves the big moment. Jimmy twenty seconds. Go. Tiger. Okay. Next question, because I wanted to loop back we're, we're gonna we're going to be in the last. I think he stands a very good chance. I'd put him in the same realm as as speed and and, and Ricky in all honesty, but he's got good history here. It's California e won the US Open here. So I think he stands a good chance. It's interesting to the people with the biggest bet on tiger that people at FOX because if he's close to the lead going into that last round at a golf course that photographs as well as, as Pebble Beach, it's going to be a spectacle, and they're going to get a huge bump in audience. We'll stop here. We'll come back and get an update. What's going on at MorningStar? Play better golf segment. Straight ahead on the swing. Dr NewsTalk eleven thirty.

There's more winnable show coming up AM, seven sixty talk and breaking news. The breadwinner bull show locked loaded and ready to rock and roll the longest shutdown history will finally and today, the president has agreed to our request to open the government and then debate border security, which is great news for eight hundred thousand federal workers, and millions of Americans who depend on government services has Democrats have said all along the solution to this impasse was separate funding for the government. And then. Go over our disagreements from border security separate the funding of government from the discussion on border security, and that's what we got. Chuck Schumer right there talking just right after the president had spoke talking about it. And again, I opened up the hour, and I still maintain it though. I am being swayed by some of the calls here people are at least encouraged, but I think everybody felt that initial reaction of. I thought Trump was going to was going to stand strong was gonna stand tall. And didn't think he was going to cave a felt like he caved, and I know I know three weeks down the road there. Now, you know, national emergency that could happen. But it just felt like, oh, anyway, let's go out to Alan the fifty six hours. Do you? Think of what happened today? Well, I think he's pretty smart. And you know, he was just saying that, you know, open up the government, and then we'll talk and. All these people that aren't getting their money. Well, he's giving her the opportunity now to deal. So here, you go you we've opened up the government people are getting their money, it's helping everybody. And now if she doesn't deal she doesn't work anything out any still has the opportunity down and closes down again for quite a while. And really make them look bad because. Dealing you know, they said open it up, and then we'll deal. He's opened it up. And if they don't deal then on them. Do you really think? And I hear what you're saying there. I just wondered to the American public to people that are watching on a peripheral, and they just hear the government shuts down. But they don't really know what that means. Do you think if it comes up in three weeks, and then Trump says, okay, nothing done? You guys haven't agreed to a deal whatever I'm shutting it down. And we're back here in a month later. It's still shut down. Do you think people will then at least say, oh, this isn't Trump's fault? This is the Democrats fault. Well, that's what he said that when you get you. He can reach the people and let them know. Okay. I opened up I help the people I gave them their chance, and they don't feel then you know, he's gonna talk directly to them and say, it's their fault. Yeah. Yeah. I appreciate the call. Al thanks for calling in. I could see that. You know, there's a couple of theories that are being floated out as well. And this is one. That's an interesting thought is Trump. And again, I don't know if this is what he's doing. But Trump says okay, fine. You don't want the border wall. You don't want the border wall. That's fine. We're not going to do the border wall. Here we go. We'll let them all in. We're going to let them in. But guess what? We're cutting the funding for all your programs all your incentives, all your handouts. So yeah, we can let them in. That's great. But when it comes time for the budget. You're not getting any federal dollars for any of these housing. Any of these handouts any of these meals any of the food transportation and just cut it all. Say fine. You don't have to have the wall. You don't want wall. That's great. And we're going to get into a story in how the wall pertains a locally here. And I'll give you just for a second Tuesday this upcoming Tuesday. The San Diego County supervisors are looking at putting a or at least going to debate about putting temporary housing for asylum seeking migrants in downtown San Diego. Hundreds in hundreds of migrants would be housed in downtown San Diego. And that could happen. If the decision is made on Tuesday. So if you think that this border wall doesn't pertain locally. I mean, this is where it has probably the biggest impact, and it has an indirect impact on us and all of us listening right here. And that's why really that's why I got so frustrated when I when I heard that the president was giving into this this directly impacts us. We have to fight for border security. You have to have border security. Let's go out to Mike in oceanside, Mike, what'd you make of this? And and where does this go from here? Strategic win. Right now. It's Trump's shutdown. Well, it's past but guess what? Now Mel becomes Pelosi's shutdown and should should no deal be happening within three weeks. You said many times publicly, you know, bring the government back, then we'll talk well, guess what? Now, they're supposed to talk, and she's going to be the unreasonable one the unreasonable party, the Democrats have the optics. They have the victims. Oh my gosh. The east. Two thousand American workers are victims or victims day, they have great optics. But that's been taken away by Trump. I think it's a massive stroke. Interesting now now, Mike, do you think a deal will get done in the next three weeks because because the way I see it to me, and I liked the insight is what's going to change in the next three weeks? Well, now, the honest is under Democratic Party now. It's okay Pelosi. Now, you got your government back. Now, you really need to seriously consider just sit there installing because we both know that McCarthy, and then pour seeing all those players have been talking and proposing and so on and so forth, and the Democrats keeps saying no well now, they can't say no anymore. Now, they actually have to come with some sort of a or you want a I want eight plus b yeah. I think it was a masterful stroke on Trump's side. Personally, my kids like my kids are in their early to mid twenties. And they're going dad, we're really afraid of this whole thing is, you know, just just the bear with it. Trump knows what he's doing some Nichols yet. No. I appreciate the call. Mike. It's the government should be open. And the reason I say that is people should be getting paid for the work. I was never, and I know folks on the on this airwaves have talked about, you know, what you should have enough money to saved up that if you don't get a paycheck or two it doesn't matter. I don't care what the money finances say that you should keep your paycheck. You know what? If you don't get paid for a couple of weeks, you should still have. I don't believe that. If you're if you're working, whether you're TSA, whether your air, traffic controller, whatever you should be getting paid, especially it would make you very frustrated if you saw these bozos in DC, and I mean, bows on both sides isn't just Trump. This isn't just below sea. Like, I said it's previous administrations debated out. And you're not getting paid. That would make you pretty frustrated. So I agree get it open. But I would just like to see something come out of it for Trump. I hear about the master negotiator. So something has to come out. And I agree with you. There might about the optics the Democrats have the optics. They always have the optics. I'm just wondering why are the optics going to look different in three weeks? And I hear ya. Then Trump's can say, hey, listen, we opened it. It's on you. But I just wonder if after week one after week after week three is the government shutdown in two months. How is that going to look different? Because I just think the way the media spins it away everybody, spins it, it'll still just go back to Trump shutdown really in the end because that's the way the media wants to portray it. That's how it works. Was this note here? Oh here. Hold on. I know you're on the phone jiggles here. Let's take let's go out to another gym and alcohol. Jim would you make of what President Trump said today? Hey, jim. Can you hear me? Yeah. Yes. Hi. Yeah. You know? I believe that somehow this dope. Is looking like he's on the roof looking like you shaving and that somewhere he's gonna come back down. But also to after long consideration he's been stepping back in considering his options. But today, I think he knew about what was going to happen with Roger stone. And he's taking the news cycle off of him. You thinking? Either. He's taking it off of him. The heat up or he's he had this habit of trying to take back the news cycle when something big happens. He went out and made it announcement. He interrupted the press conference today. Nancy Pelosi took power, and I think he has a habit of doing that that they were going probably was chapter or somebody told him that they regard. They never just it was just an eminent things ain't going gonna arrest him and the minute that they do I'm gonna do this. And I think probably though that there. It's a thing where he's considered it. He's doing something. And now he's gonna do this make it look like he's weak and then come back. With something stronger. Probably like, you know. Sometimes. People don't realize we thought the entire Vietnam war under executive order. Yeah. Of executive order is not just a passing fancy. It's something that can stick and the law. Sure, how much more people gonna protests unless thousands of soldiers dying. I mean, not much more. Right. You think there's going to be the only so much protesting for something? That's. And I think he is the tha that you have fortitude to do this executive power just like president. Yup. To watch things pile up and didn't continue moving forward and ultimately bring. Her daughter. I appreciate the call, Jim. Yep. I hear what you're saying. Which by the way, we haven't mentioned the name Roger stone today because in this news cycle that story's gone to do hours later that story's gone, but I may recommend if you haven't watched the Netflix documentary on Roger stone. It's called get me Roger stone. I didn't know much about Roger stone prior to where he on the show here and is fascinating. It's you know, everybody knows politics is a dirty game. But for the most part everybody tries to stay out of it. Or at least I should say stay out of it. But tries to play this. Hey, we're working together. And it's not really dirty politics though. Everybody knows in the back of their mind. Roger stone is just the king of it's politics. And this is what you're gonna get. And so I recommend this week in Washington. Get me Roger stone while he's in the news. And I hear what you're saying. As far as taking the media away from him. Interesting thoughts will take you. Call one eight hundred.
