Rams superstar Aaron Donald upset at end of playoff loss
"The packers thirty two eighteen on saturday and heading into the weekend lindsay. You wrote that you were really excited to see this. Coaching matchup between matlock floor. And sean mcvay. What stood out to you in the battle of the minds here. Yeah i mean because these are two guys who know each other so well and you know. They're very much part of the same coaching tree. They both worked under kyle shanahan about the flora then works Under sean mcvay. So they have very similar offensive philosophies but that was just a game that was full of really interesting. Coaching matchups mallon floor wine. That batch up by far the packers had the better game plan. They were the better team better coach. All of this and sure aaron. Donald was not at full strength. You could tell that. He was very clearly hampered by the rib injury that he suffered during the wild card round but it was just a very impressive performance overall by aaron rodgers and certainly by matt leflore and that entire coaching staff the packers put up four hundred and eighty four yards of total offense against basically the best defense in the league. talked about aaron donald. Who's just a generational talent. Not being at full strength. But how is this packers offense. So effective saturday night. We'll everything they do. Obviously starts with aaron rodgers. Who just seem to have this innate mastery of what was coming and it kind of went viral on twitter a little bit because so many of fox's camera angles shown face on with aaron rodgers where you could see the moment that he realized what was coming that he was able to diagnose the coverage and dictate the play based on what was coming and the offensive line played really well protecting aaron rogers. He was barely touched. I'm not sure if his jersey had a single grass stain on after the game. And you know when you're not getting pressure on a quarterback and you're running the ball really well and you have davante adams who's one of the best wide receivers and football. It really wasn't even a close match up. And you know. I know a lot of people in green bay throughout packers land. Were wondering this is the best defense in football and it has to make you wonder. If that's the way that the packers aaron rodgers played against supposedly the best defense in football. What are they going to do for the rest of the

"Surreally stressful situations even fearful situations for us one or the other one will turn the other second what we got this and just those words we got this hour bring is bose into connection of are not in this alone were become a ritual connection. Orcs too and so I guess if part of the rituals connection in creating shared meaning is to recognize that we are meaning making creatures. We need to have meaning in our life and creating rituals of connection is one of the ways that we gave that and so then if we take a kind of backup take the thirty thousand foot view of of a healthy marriage. Were really looking at within this. Our relationship has. We're looking at how to help how to help. Couples build friendship infection. How TO HELP? Couples manage conflict of the soluble problems as well as the perpetual problem and thirdly to help couples create share meeting together. And we're working on those three areas and we're also working on deepening our trusting commitment. That's what the research shows. Us helps to build a strong marriage that can last a lifetime. That's so good. Yeah and I love that when we started out with this. You talked about these being kind of continual things right because as I'm looking at these seven elements and even obviously the kind of tools but these seven elements you know even if you at one point talked about life dreams right. That doesn't mean that okay. We did that now. We just don't have to do that at any point because as you talked about we're constantly changing evolving. You know so all of these. Things are things not just to address in like once. Premarital counseling or whatever but like okay we have to do this continuously relationships in Europe points of a miracle life together where things and it's an opportunity for those moments to be either bring us closer each other or for the part of when children come on the scene we need to remember we need to Sterile Bill. This friendship with each other even though maybe has come along. When we have over death of a parent the our relationship is going to be changes resulted in his death of so even surgeries. I had my hip replaced. He'd never years ago. Our marriage took a huge leap forward in all those areas because of that event. But it's still it's an opportunity to either maintain says quo or to deepen. That's good well. One of the things I want to highlight is that we are sensitive to the fact that most couples right now are shifting to being around one another all the time which up until a couple of weeks ago really wasn't the case or at least at the point of recording this episode and so now we are juggling working from home or adjusting to not working homeschooling navigating the stress of the current crisis. And so many other things so I'm curious if each if the both of you could name like what would be the one most important thing that you would recommend for couples who are now navigating uncertainty and crisis in fear. And just everything. That's going on right now. That's a great question. Holly IN OUR PRACTICES. We have noticed that all of our couples that were being wiz have had increased stress and increased conflict. And we've also noticed in our own marriage since we've been sheltering in place that we've had increased stress in conflict with each other so susie. Why don't you want to say what what one piece of advice you'd recommend? And then I'll say what I would recommend a radical honesty communication. Hey Ron I even had this conversation. Slowing sheltering place. We've worked inside the celebrity before we are both professionally. Go Conferences McRae trains together but to be in the same household twenty four seven is my dream come true in Hog Heaven as not so much as Roman and of course just as you know Earlier when I haven't hit replace our relationship took hugely or because we really had to adjust. Somethings are we interact with each other. This is also opportunity where we are investigating new territory of what? What does this mean for my expectations of living and working in held together Anwar? His in not how to me and my we finally get to be. You know our own little herb. It here on Norman Avenue in Procession of all my Gosh I beg for this Gordon Avenue. How a Halley through that? So he mandate communicates unique eight. Yeah I think those are. That's a wonderful suggestion and communicate using some of what we've talked about earlier in terms of self soothing accepting the other person's influence using is statements to talk about your your needs and feelings and really try to listen to the other person. I think the one piece of guidance I would give probably would be to lower your expectations during this time of the current era crisis corona virus crisis learn to accept that. This is the new normal for the time. Being it will be this way forever but it is that way from hell and I think finding ways to have some structure in your day where you can have together time with your partner but also time where you can have alone time. I think that's super important. If you're going to be with anybody twenty four seven for most people that's GONNA be stressful regardless of who the person is so it is okay to take some time to be by yourself and it is also important to take time to be with each other to turn off the television to sit down and talk with each other to be physically close as well as emotionally close with one another and being able to communicate about all of this is just paramount's. Gosh I love that from the both of you. I think those are such good pieces of advice. Right now Especially in the midst of everything that's going on and certainly good for even during times when we're not in Christ us for for each of those pieces. She completed a pre doctoral residence in counseling psychology at the Houston Independent School district. And the two of them have these sweet beautiful golden doodles named Benedict and Sophia. Who Are Little Waco celebrities so rod and Susini at thank you so much for being on the show with us today? Thank you so much rest. We're glad to be here. Yeah is there anything that we missed in your BIOS yet to fill us in on you covered the important parts particularly about our two wonderful golden? They are so so sweet. Well so today we're gonNA focus primarily on some of the work that y'all have done around Gottmann therapy and just for us to have a better understanding of this. So I know Rod that you are certified in Gottesman therapy and I know you're both you're both deeply passionate about couples therapy and marriages in general. Do you mind telling us about your journeys into this line of work. Who absolutely we'd be happy to tell you about that. Maybe I'll start. You can follow up for me. The journey started a long time ago in my practical training program when we had some basic courses in Kabul therapy but not extensive training in couple therapy and as I started working with couples a realized that we it's really a different way of doing psychotherapy very different from how you do individual therapy and started seeing more couples in my practice. I realized I needed to do more extensive training in that and so that began a journey for me. Learning about which approaches to couple therapy have actual research support behind them and that led me into studying in ultimately getting certified in common method couples therapy but also studying emotionally focused. Couple therapy as well way up. We made this journey. We decided to go through the trains together and what they've always enjoyed doing as provincial. Trains together in workshops conferences that pardoning Just another citizen of of as a couple to go through the couple's training together. It was really amazing to me. The first the first workshop we went through the training workshop we went to was number of years ago and we went because we wanted to learn how to help our couples but we were so surprised that everything we learned was immediately applicable to our own marriage as well as we would go through. Each layer is the majority of our little one level tune. Three were does not the offense. We were going through our own miracle therapy together. And it's just one of those amazing bonding experiences so we were doing it professionally but we definitely been benefited purcell in in our own marriage so our our interest professionally he kinda Jerus- into this okay. This even fits for us. So what's so going on? These continuing education really was just an opportunity for us to slow to who we are as a couple. That's awesome. I love that and I know when you were. Just talking about the workshops that Y'all have done. I know my husband and I have gotten to see. Y'All speak before in present on at marriage retreats before at least in one in particular that I'm thinking of an it's an allergist so good at this so let me just firm. The anyone is listening in ever gets a chance to hear these to speak on marriage. It's it's amazing so thank you. Oh well thank you so one of the things we really do want to focus on today is got man sound relationship house theory. Can y'all give us a very high level overview of what that is and then we'll dive in a little bit more into some the details of it. Sure maybe a good place to start is to acknowledge that The guardmen institute which operates out of a Washington state has been studying. What makes marriage work for over almost forty years and they studied over three thousand married couples so they have collected a lot of aid over. What makes marriage work? And if you can imagine that amount of data over such a long period of time a lot of data to process to make sense in the way they had made sense of their data's by developing what they call a sound relationship has in if you can imagine a house that has to load bearing walls in that has seven levels in the house those two load bearing walls and the seven levels of the house each represent a critical research finding about what makes marriage work. That makes perfect sense. Yeah I love that that. Just the visual. Does it make more sense if if for a lot of us have never heard of this so actually. I've never even heard of this because I don't. I don't work with couples right so in this particular kind of picturing it does it make more sense to start with the load bearing walls use grabbed them or the levels within. I would say the load bearing walls. Okay Well those two on either side are trusting commitment right. So what do we do with the? I mean kind of unpack those for us. Well think about the purpose of a load bearing wall that is got those inward whole the structure for the sound relationship pounds if you're looking at SMU relationship house trust is on the left and commitment is on the right in terms of the wall. Trust is trust. Can I trust you to be there for me? Can I trusted you are in the in this journey together in that? Trust you to be vulnerable with me in our trust me to be vulnerable with you. So it's not just trust on one side of the partnership is transferred the bows in between both amendment or be committing to. Are we going to commit to the process on commit to commit to each layer of the same relationship house in as we commit to each layer? Then we can commit to the the entire process of it. You don't have to know what the end result will be. We know what we want to get to. But this is this is can be organic. And the commitment can change per layer into the rape foundational. Layer is friendship. So in that moment you know. Sometimes I'll ask my couples before I can commit you. Can we list amid to the friendship in either reestablishing that friendship or building? That friendship is never been there. So it's a trust in each of the each layer as you go but also knowing what who in what you're trusting who and why you're committing to and some of these changes as you go through the course of your marriage when we got married when we were standing up at the altar. We knew that we were getting married for life. Back was our commitment at that time and I remember though there was a moment probably about five years into our relationship where we were going through a difficult time. Were working through some of the conflict at the time and we both had a very strong felt. Sense of this commitment is felt so much deeper. And so it's not like the commitment level change for us but our it felt neighboring. We really had that felt sense of in this regardless of what happens inside. Delay Couples keep commitment In the forefront of their mind and that worked to continually build and deepen throughout the course of their marriage. Yeah so thinking about that right. Most people would say okay trust and commitment sure that make sense kind of from a theoretical standpoint but this in this kind of PDF here. That I'm looking at. There's five specific ways listed in terms of. How do we actually do those things right? How do we build those? We grow those Can you touch on some of those? Yes Sir You know there are lots of different ways that couples can build trust and commitment one of the first things that would be to make trustworthiness a main priority in the relationship. I think a lot of times that comes down to the question of do I trust my partner to put the needs of the relationship ahead of their own needs and am I willing to do the same. And that works beautifully when both partners are committed to putting the needs of the relationship as their first priority related to that is acting to maximize your partners wellbeing to do what you can to help. Your partner thrive in their life and in their marriage a lot of times we build trust by as we build trust through the small positive moments often used the expression that marriages are built by doing small things often. And I think that's important for us to remember that the grand gestures of commitment and trust and love and fidelity are wonderful but trust is really build in those small moments and doing those small moments consistently throughout the day in throughout your marriage. Another way that we build trust and commitment is to avoid negative comparisons with other people. This is really easy for all people to do that. We may have a conflict with our partner in. We might think you know this friend of mine doesn't have to deal with this and his her marriage and I bet you they would laugh at my joke if I told that joke whereas my wife doesn't laugh.

Baker Mayfield clarifies what he said about Daniel Jones to GQ
"It's new article in juke g. c._q. Where baker mayfield said. I cannot believe the giants took. Daniel jones blows my mind. Some people were thinking that's where people go wrong. They forgot. You've got a win. Win course baker one in college. Gale jones did not but i mean the point could if we wanted to decipher wins and losses. There's lots of great college quarterbacks that were drafted. They've got opportunities that have not been great pro quarterback danny waffle you know i mean look just even more recent like vince young i i vince young matlock venture was rookie of the year he he might so he will heed one early like it. It gets harder not easier. Yes it gets hard because now okay now. We know what you do now. We'll go back and watch the chargers film where you know that line just wants to stand you up. Make you make you stay in the pocket and throw over the top because you're small and you can't see and we'll see we'll see what the ravens did. Look baker mayfield was good last year. Let's act like he tore up. The league behan touchdown receptions against the good teams they he played against. They beat up on the bengals. The bengals the team at the time they played the bengals. The bengals were on track to have the worst defense in the history of the league and they played the ravens twice the chargers chargers steelers the texans the broncos broncos to make the playoffs char steelers did neither but those are the five actually six best defense played against ten touchdowns love interceptions fifty seven percent completion percentage. There were two and four now if you if you give context and say hey cleveland won one game in two years for the got there and look at how people view them now. Oh that's fair and people believe baker mayfield's gonna damn good quarterback bliss on act like he went out and did what pat mahomes did last year exact same guy no missed completely really different now. The the thing with banco is all eyes are on cleveland so all eyes on you you better give him something because if if you fall on your face all these wide you draft daniel jones all these <hes> do johnson deal talking about luke johnson's money. Oh you know hugh took a job in cincinnati. I don't like him for all this stuff that you're doing all these theatrics they don't get thrown back in your face and so if you can dish it out you better be able to handle it when it comes back and and that's what i don't know if he understands that could possibly happen. I'm sure he's not thinking they're going to fail but to understand. You got a lot of prime time games. You better perform
Aaron Rodgers 'Glad' Packers' Joint Practices with Texans Over
"Go to the n._f._l. Let's start this in green bay. Packers and new head coach matt leflore and aaron rodgers not on the same page early in camp. The coach likes can't likes camp likes working out with other teams. Here's what aaron rodgers said said about doing a joint practice with texans. I wouldn't mind if they didn't do it for another fourteen years and then he said that the offensive work is of great value because schematically. There's not a lot there and he doesn't like the risk of injury. Is this just one of those things or is this a real problem between rogers and the floor. Take it or shake it. Take it real problems. Take take take it though she sleep but i think when you think when you think about what i said the other day about out joint practices. It's a no no. No one wants to do that but coaches then only ones you. There's there's nothing to gain from it. The iran tell you 'cause. Let's coaches are stupid. He just do stuff. They just day or stupid. I told you this the other day and raja's comes out and basically backs up exactly exactly what i'll say it. No one wants to do that. You risk injury. You're getting no real work at all and it is going to be a power struggle for this young head head coach and matlock floor in aaron rodgers. It's going to be a power struggle in math going to have to cave in or else. He's going to get fire yeah. I was just gonna say if you're a brand new head coach jay first time head coach and all of a sudden you gotta go coach your first team as the head guy that's one thing you've got to be the head coach of the green bay packers with a hall of fame quarterback. Who's in the meat prime of his career. That's a totally different thing different. Yeah it's different because ann rogers is also different. He's so cerebral. He's so questions every think think anyway. He's not just gonna go to get him on like other. Q._b.'s wills so you know skiing on the walls though skin on the wall. What do you mean it meaning matlock floor. Oh if you if you were dealing dealing with coach that came in and mike shanahan or bill parcells done something that has some skin on the wall the aaron rodgers with baal down where if there's a guy like sean mcvay say the world gets up into shining face their push mcvay a smart enough to realize that i need him to produce some let him do what he needs to do. If he's doing what he needs to do in his positive then we're gonna be okay and if it's negative it's gonna follow him. I've done everything to make him a better player. I'll keep my job. You gotta know where he is an all time, and you cannot fathom give an easy points. You look at the lineup is changing a little bit from the first meeting down in Memphis. I've gone with some younger players. Dennis has had a good game recently a sixth raise the other night against. Yeah. That's what they did. Well, I think he had fifteen threes against Tulsa match up zone. So they're playing with a lot of confidence right now. They have a scheduled this. That's pretty good for them going down the stretch. So I think they're looking forward to try to make sure they can get a home win before they hit the road again. So but we're excited about the challenge. We we talked about this. What you the type of games you get in college basketball, four don't play in front of tea and eleven thousand people everybody's against you. This is what college basketball basketball's about first game. You came at him. You turn them over a little bit gun. I'm really uncomfortable their guard play point guard with Bertelsmann excellent lately. He's doing good job. Yeah. You'd think about who it seems like it was so long ago. I first conference games. So it was so long ago that you know, I guys ignored really forgot about some of the things that we did against him. So we're excited about the game plan is set already to do. Now is come out and execute in half court, again, we'll talk a little bit. They'll do the double drags rip screens all kind of things especially round at free throw line, very important to communicate. Yeah, they're going to do a lot of especially to get back. You open for shots. They're going to try to do things to get him in an isolation situations and an actually post them a little bit. So we know the challenge at hand. And we're excited about the challenge for tonight every year he's been in a league recently. They've been a good rebounding team. They led the league not as good this year. But still a dangerous thing little boards. Yeah. And like I said what goes has done here at this program is is phenomenal. I think he's at maybe trying to get his three hundred and here. So I know you'll hear about knows. He's a really good coach is always want. One of those coaches always name is Mitch and for all the top jobs around the country when jobs come open. And so he's done a great job with the culture here and how these guys play for him. And so they're they're going to be good. They're gonna continue to get better. So hopefully, it's a game that we can kind of make a signature game for us. We need one of those signature wrote we into so hopefully, we'll come out ready to play very solid defensive team pick your full court at times of the mandate. They come after you aggressively. And that's what he's known for. He's known for his hard nosed guys playing really hard. Actually, I was watching his TV show last night. And that's all he talked about his dead. He his team is starting to buy into some of the things that he's been preaching so win. But they're so young they have some young guys on their team too. So you could tell you the team is getting better. So it's going to be a big satisfied with the start very important tonight. Keeping this crowd this big crowd, usually the tier and make a lot of noise and keep them silent. If you can. Yeah. It's gonna be he's gonna be loud. It's going to be a game where you know, you're gonna have to communicate with one another like, I said earlier, you know, when you when coast calls a play you will have to make sure everybody knows exactly what we're running on. And defensive and, but yeah, he does a great job. And we know that we got to get a quick start. So we can kind of keep this crowd out of again, all the best tonight, the coaches, you take on the shockers of Wichita state. Thanks, man. This is meant tiger basketball. When we come back. We'll talk about course, the keys to tonight's game. Memphis tiger basketball from learfield. IMG college. Everybody wants to be in the game in the stands in the playoffs. Tiger fans. You want you to know that Bancorp south. We're already we're.

Find them near the mouthwash. Welcome to brain stuff from how stuff works. Hey, brain stuff, Lauren vocal bomb here. We've all heard the grim news sitting is the new smoking. It's troubling statement to see repeated in the headlines, especially since the average office worker sits for about ten hours every day and net flicks. We love you. But you're not helping not only has excessive sitting been associated with everything from strained muscles to spinal damage, but research has shown prolonged sedentary time is associated with harmful health outcomes, regardless of physical activity, and while we all put our faith into standing, desks as the obvious antidote. It turns out that strategy might be doing more harm than good. There might be a simpler solution that doesn't involve a fancy office accessory or swollen ankles squatting. We spoke with area Matlock, a New York-based nurse practitioner. She said when it comes to the human body spending too much time in any single position has a cost in the west today. We sit a lot. So it would do us good to squat a bit more. Jessica Gilbert, a California based certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor agrees. She said, we should most definitely be squatting more in our everyday lives for many reasons, the first and most important is that most people struggled from inactive, gluteal muscles gluts, and that can cause low back pain pain throw off your posture and affect your everyday workouts. She says that squatting for just thirty seconds. If you times a day can strengthen those inactive muscle groups. So why squatting you might instead one ask why not squatting while you may not typically see people in the United States crouching with bent knees. Butts hovering above their heels, you'll see that pose on the regular in other countries, particularly in places where squat toilets aware, the pan or bowls at floor level are common like throughout Asia, India and Africa, but people in other parts of the world. Also, commonly issued shares to squat win eating talking and just generally hanging out. And while these super low squat you'll see abroad may look much different than these standard issue. Jim move common in the United States. Gilbert says they both have their rightful place and booty building perks. She said a typical Jim squat and squats and other countries are all fairly the same. But the depth range of motion and uses are different. She explained the gym squat will build strength where swatting in daily life can build endurance. Matt look explained that it used to be more common for people all over the world to give birth and use the toilet in a squatting position. She said the less we squat the weaker the muscles that make squatting possible. Become a lot of fitness routines. Yoga practices include squad against your sizes for good reason, squatting increases leg strength and stability gets the blood flowing warms up the body and improves muscle tone without putting excessive pressure on the joints. And while no one really likes to talk about it that toilet thing is important. Hence, the success of the Squatty potty toria Albany, another New York based nurse practitioner and health. Coach said we. We definitely should all be squatting to have a bowel movement when we're in a fully squatted position. It's a more natural position for our colon. When the Victorians came up with the concept of the throne toilet, it was a big step backward for bowel health, but beyond the bathroom. Squatting has a ton of benefits that non-practitioners are missing out on Albany said I also think when we're squatting all the time to do all sorts of things we're engaging. Our core in our back and engaging a series of muscles that the average American is no longer engaging. We're having more back pain than ever before. I don't think it's a one to one correlation. But we're definitely sitting more and commuting more. And it's one part of the picture while it's a good idea to get your squad on more often. It's also important to remember that not all squats are created equal met. Luke said rapid careless squatting can easily lead to back injuries. So it's important to engage the core muscles and keep the back straight when adding squats to your daily routine start with slow movements for one to three minutes and work up to a faster pace and longer duration. Listen, whether you're squeezing more squats in for overall health, and mobility, or you're really looking to build muscle Gilbert has a few takeaway tips. She said always keep the weight of your squats in your heels. Keep your chest up and shoulder blades. Back when you're doing the squat and coming up to the standing position, always squeeze your. But if you're leaning forward or backward, and your squats, you're more likely to injure yourself. So if you're new to working out or just want to improve your squatting technique, I recommend finding a bench and practice the sitting and standing technique even just taking a seat and then standing up fifteen to twenty times in a row once a day can make a difference. It's almost the same idea as the Jim techniques.
