Let's talk about it service. you. Brian go ahead. I thought it was a pretty decent effort. From the quarterbacks i You know the one that one interception by joshua dobbs was was ugly but the guys. I was really looking at of course. Mason rudolph in wayne haskins and i thought they book showed up this week win. Haskins really needed to have a very good showing to not drop out of the conversation because last week was was not great for him and now dave did explain it that you know he was. He was going over the luxembourg. What the defense was getting them this week. He had more chances to throw downfield. He looked solid doing it. He did have that touchdown pass. He led them on a couple of of scoring drives so Very solid game from him. Dave and i were talking before the show on mason rudolph and thought he had a pretty good effort and what killed his drives was basically those

"Me put it this way. If mason rudolph in twenty twenty two the steelers. If he's the starting quarterback for the steelers starting quarterback week one and he goes out there and he plays well. He gives the steelers a chance to win and he wins them some games. Would you be mad. Would you be upset if that happened. If mason rudolph actually kind of turned it around to the point that hey it took me some time. But i figured it out. I wouldn't be upset. They turn a third round pick into a starting quarterback. It's easy when you look around the afc north and you see all these first round. Picks and lamar jackson baker. Mayfield and joe burrow. I don't get it. I don't get it but i think let's be patient here. Let's be patient here. Because i think the steelers i think the steelers they did the right thing by giving mason rudolph the extension this offseason. And they're they're saying they're telling us the fans we see you more than you do. And we think he could be something significant. Will that way. Because if you're a star in the nfl that significant. I'm not saying special or anything like that. But it could be. He could be significant a significant member of the team. All right enough. Mason rudolph talk. Those are good show to end the week. The steelers wrap up the rotea as this week. So if you're an apple podcasts user. Please go do that all right. Let's get to this show. This is a show that. I've been wanting to talk about this topic for a couple weeks now but the fact that this player just recently spoke to the media during organized team activities. The steelers are in the final week of their third phase of otas. And this is the perfect time. This is the great. This is a great time to talk about this player. And that player would be none other than mason. Rudolph and i wanted to have a topic that was i think poignant enough that all the fans the entire fan base could get something out of this and so the topic is did we jump the gun as mason rudolph not being the next steelers quarterback did we maybe just kind of put the cart in front of the horse for a second. That's we're going to dive into during the show. We're going to take a look at everything from the time. Line of mason rudolph's young career. We're going to look at what happened each season. We're going to look at what happened this past off season and then also going to look at this upcoming season. And what might the future hold for. Mason rudolph and ultimately. I think it's important. We look at mason rudolph with a not a black and gold land but a really honest lands and say did we. Let's answer the question at the end of the show and you think about it as we go through it as we go through and we talk this out you answer the question at the end of the podcast. Did we jump the gun here did were we may be a little premature with judging mason. Rudolph as a potential quarterback as a potential future quarterback. Maybe not just what the steelers but in the nfl in general. I know there's some people that there is no changing their attitudes on certain players mason. Rudolph is one of them And we'll talk about what happened in two dozen and nineteen and that's a large reason why people can't stand him. They don't think he's the future nonetheless. All i ask is that you keep an open mind for the next. I don't know twenty five minutes or so and we'll see where we end up at the end. So let's start off in the two thousand eighteen. Nfl draft mason rudolph a third round pick people need to remember. The steelers did trade up in the third round. They actually got up in front of the bengals. The bengals reportedly going to draft mason rudolph in the steelers jumped ahead of him and took him in the third round. And i have to be honest a little bit of a disclaimer here. Those of you that have listened to our podcast. The steelers preview. That i do every thursday night. Live on youtube with brian. Anthony davis and dave scofield. I i was very honest about. I was excited. I was very excited when they drafted. Mason rudolph i thought that mason rudolph a let me put it this way. It was the first time in the ben. Roethlisberger era that. They drafted a quarterback that i thought to myself. Maybe this guy is the next guy. We've all seen them. Bring in quarterbacks. Ben roethlisberger time in pittsburgh whether it was charlie batch he was actually there prior to but still charlie batch was back. Backup brian saint-pierre. Dennis dixon landry jones. joshua dobbs i. I could go on with some of these players. That backed up ben rothlisberger at some point in their career. Byran left which michael vick was there for a time. So there's so many quarterbacks but none of them none of them. Did i ever think they picked up this player as a potential replacement for number seven when they drafted mason rudolph and maybe it was based on the fact that mason rudolph he kind of was touted as a high draft. Pick someone that could go in the early rounds. I kind of compare mason rudolph in terms of the draft. Buzz if you wanna put it that way to like a kyle. Trask in this twenty twenty one. Nfl draft similar characteristics. There are a lot of people that said. Maybe he'll go in the first round. Maybe you'll go in the second round. Rudolph didn't get paid until the third round. Let's keep that in mind though people. Let's keep that in mind. I don't care what kevin colbert said. And he did. We had a first round. Great on mason rudolph. Okay sure..

"Um, I just like Chicago not to win. I think I think it's gonna be like the get about bills were today. I think it's gonna be closer than expected game. I do think the Saints will win. But Chicago's gonna keep that closed. Only the Saints, though, and with the way that things have panned out for them, it'll be rarely really close. Boards in the game, and then somehow the rest will get skewed into it. And the Saints will lose in grand fashion. Somehow, by the Saints by the referees last July 2 years ago they spent it's happened every year for the last two or three years. Album tomorrow is going to play in the game. So that's good news for the Saints and then in the night game rounds at Steelers, Pittsburgh is a six point favorite. Big Ben had the week off. Last week. Pittsburgh got rolled. I got beat by two by Cleveland last week. Cleveland beat him last Sunday by two points. I guess it seemed like a role, but it really was. It wasn't a robot. Yeah, Mason Rudolph was quarterbacking from Steelers last week. I've been going back and forth to this. I love Pittsburgh. I'm sorry. Well, I think it is a six point favorite. Yes, I don't love him. But I like Pittsburgh because the stuff fancy deal was the head coach. The offensive coordinator is not there. And Cleveland is practiced once there's inter game. Listen, there's 12 and 14. I think in the history of the NFL, I'm gonna go the Browns tomorrow. I really like the Browns. I think that is calling our Pittsburgh's the worst 12 the worst 14 the NFL ever. Probably they. At one point, they were the worst. Eight. No team in the history of the league, and now they're the worst 12 and 14 in the league. I like the Browns. I like the way bigger is playing. Steelers vs. Browns - Game Recap
"The cleveland browns. Two thousand two. The last time this franchise was in the playoffs but they beat the steelers yesterday's and they get in and dan. They started out running the football with nick. Chubb that power. Run game with nick chubb. You see that offensive line. Kind of changing. Denting the line of scrimmage and then chubs depth pig playmaking physical and not between the tackles but also got big enough speed and baker. Getting don is looking for tight. End up ten nine on first and goal in the third quarter this afternoon. Yeah the fact that they went back to this he missed it in the same play gets his is. Backside finds often prefer touchdown. No ben in this game mason rudolph way had some good moments. And then he had this one really good blitz packet by the browns defensive drop myles garrett into and then that safety to sit there like all right. Don't leave the ball mason. Rudolph shoots turner for this defense. Need mental switched sides on the field because it went to the fourth quarter and then it went to jarvis landry and the browns were up twenty four to nine not love this play. Call you kind of get. Landry sideline to sideline and you handed off for the touchdown. And then finally you get the ball out of pittsburgh's defense something that chase claypool done. So well look at his ability. Go up kind of contest for that. Catch over jumped. The fence and back touchdown pitchford. That made it twenty four sixteen and then under two minutes to go in the game and this is juju smith schuster and all of a sudden. It's twenty four twenty two dan. How about the two point conversion you gotta make sure at some point. This guy's got the opportunity to go high point of all scrambled around. Give them a chance to go get his hands on that. Football fewer still had chances stephen. Carlson somehow manages to come up with this on side kick. he's eighty nine cleveland. There for a moment there was kind of between the wickets. If you know what i mean. But he manages to hang onto it. And then dan baker mayfield runs with the first down the isis. The player not love the play call by defense came look at the emotion from baker mayfield. You don't kind of representing that city. Just look how much it means to him to finally get that done in cleveland. Good for him good for them. The browns are in the playoffs. The afc wild card round will kick off saturday.

Myles Garrett: The Interview, Response, and Fallout
"Last Thursday. I sat down with Browns Defensive End myles Garrett in Los Angeles one day after he was reinstated into the NFL. The interview which aired on outside. The lines was Garrett's first media parents since he was suspended by the League for swinging a helmet at steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph Rudolph initially declined to comment but after reaffirmed his claim that the quarterback called him a racial slur. Rudolph replied on twitter calling the accusation. One thousand percent false and a bold faced lie today more from our interview with Garrett including new details on who he says he told about his allegation that fateful night then Adam schefter joins the show to discuss the steelers response. And what this means for both players going forward. I mean a crime. It's Monday February Seventeenth. This is ESPN daily presented by. Adt Back to November fourteenth. You guys were up. Twenty one zero seven just seconds left in the game even suited for the first time and how long and that gets marred by idiotic play by me and a couple other guys on both teams. And there's a brawl going down inside the ten yard line and getting in there was myles Garrett and took the helmet off of Mason Rudolph along it and that David Decastro and Marquees pouncey came in and they started really laying in so it was myles. Garrett took the helmet off of Mason Rudolph and slammed him on the top of my head dunk. Oh boy miles. We're going to get one too. That'd be suspended. Oh my goodness wow luxury what happened. I mean come off the edge by ten years less than fifteen seconds. I remember that I didn't want to be on the field but now sits out there and They were throwing that ball cells going to make a play so he started the ball. He's always wanted to throw. I'm going no the administrators on. I'm not trying to do anything illegal. I should go to take them down. He says some worry that we're going down. And he ends up on top of me and he goes to twist my helmet off. So I ended up getting leveraging topping him. I grabbed his helmet and I'll start shaking them. Push them off me and I was shaking him. His helmet comes off and is now one of his offense lineman grass and I think the Castro and he's talking to me. Tell me it's cool. Notice let it go. No Senate game. It's all good. And as he's known walking me away on my left side base incomes. Run again now. He's yelling he's already kicked me to China. Twist my helmet off and made a mistake to defend myself but Day because it's left a situation entirely. There's no need for that. No no for that at all. Wow you're you're up by twenty one to seven and video that we were watching of myles Garrett taking the helmet off brutal peniche slamming him. Which pretty bad you've just described in great detail. It sounds like something you've thought about a lot a lot of time thinking about it now. Time thing about that reaction what my response should have been. 'cause I should've have and I usually have in that situation. Just wasn't there and not just reflect the myself and allowing myself to never know being the situation but if I am to to handle it better. What did he say to you? Call me the N. So when he said it kind of sparks something but I still tried to let it go still walk away once he came back. Kinda Kinda reignited this situation and now only have you know escalate things. No Pass what it needs to be no with a little time in the game left. Now you're now you're trying to know reengaged and start a fight again and no. It's definitely not entirely his fault. helmet and don't give me the all that will never happen again it already happened once if you would happen again and the next day I get seriously injured the NFL has moral and legal responsibility because the NFL allowed miles there to continue to play so the NFL needs the opportunity in the off season to talk to miles there to work with miles Gerrit to put into anger management someone pointed out to me yesterday that when he had finally this year against the jets he made some common lost his cool look if you're gonna be losing your call you're not fit to be on the field because now we see what happens when you lose your cool you wouldn't like me when I'm angry as Bruce banner once said we've seen him angry we seem miles their turn in the hall we don't want that again we need to be sure is not gonna happen again period that's why they need the indefinite suspension it can't just be serve your time and then you're welcome back with open arms can't be and I think James thrash understood that saw that and maybe there'll be back week one in next year I assume he will be but when he does come back the NFL will have all the appropriate documentation that they did everything in their power to call reasonably prudent steps to ensure the putting miles Gerd back on the field was not putting other players at risk of getting whacked over the head with their own home it's that simple now it came out yesterday during the appeal Garrett claimed that Mason Rudolph used a racial slur and I've got three comments about that first rob did it doesn't justify the response it doesn't justify hitting over the head with his own helmet it justifies a response but not that second there's a whole slew of potential stressors and provocations better experience by guys who are playing football some are fair some are not sometimes a line gets crossed obviously you've read off used a racial slur a line got crossed but the challenge of knowing when to flip the switch off includes knowing not to respond to any and all provocation fair or unfair proper or improper acceptable or unacceptable and finally what was the last point all I knew there was one more hello Rick Perry moment there sorry I can't remember the sermon starred why we just find out about this now if Mason Rudolph altered a racial slur and that's why miles Gerrit reacted the way he did and the cameras and microphones and mild scared space last Thursday night why isn't he saying it then and there why is in a that's a fair question now I've been told digging on this and my understanding is the Browns knew about this claim over the weekend and I think a strategic decision was made to try to find audio to confirm it before making a big deal about it all I know is this and we we bring common sense and reason to the situations that was one thing that I always try to tell the jury during closing argument you did not leave your common sense in your car you have to apply common sense to everything you scrutinize and common sense in this situation would be that if miles Gerrit was mad enough to whack Mason Rudolph over the head because route off it under a racial slur Garrett should still be mad enough in the locker room after the game to at least mention Mason Rudolph used a racial slur the Steelers and Rudolph's attorney denied the claim Rudolph's attorney called it reckless and shameful still a sparse spokesman Burt Lawton said that Mason vehemently denies the report of being accused of using a racial slur during the incident there's an in Cleveland he will not discuss this accusation any further in his focus remains on preparation for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals now I don't like the fact of slamming the door on any discussion about it I think that Rudolph deserves to be questioned about it by reporters these guys a question about everything else they should be questioned about this and we're off the supposed to talk to media yesterday and they pulled the plug that makes it looks fishy there's a lot of fishy going on here the common sense and tenor fly on all over the place like you know the arms on that inflatable stupid thing that you see on the side of the road they're just going all over the place I got one part of common sense saying that miles Gerets embellishing another part of common sense that saying maybe Mason rob did say something he should have said the Steelers short acting like he's innocent if he's innocent let him talk if he's innocent let him let him in his own voice say I never said anything like that I am offended at the suggestion that is a lazy and convenient excuse for behavior that is unacceptable let him say that let's see his anger don't go hide him Mason road off vehemently denies this report it's reckless and shameful anyone ever be discussing it again what the hell is that miles glared issues statement this was not meant for public dissemination or was it a convenient time to just to ma justify my actions or restore my image in the eyes of those I disappointed I know what I heard whether my opponent's comment was born out of frustration or ignorance I cannot say but his actions do not excuse my lack of restraint the moment and I truly regret the impact that the sat on the league grounds in our devoted fans well this is a a hot potato topic but I think that you know look we don't pick the stories the stories picked us I usually say that in the off season but here we have to deal with this we have to break it down we have to make sense of it and on one hand I don't know why Mason Garrett didn't say in the moment Thursday night Mason Lavater to slur and I don't know why the Steelers are hiding Mason road off I vehemently deny it and I will say nothing about someone else vehemently denies it for me and I will say nothing about the NFL looked into and found no evidence other than Gerrit saying it right I mean that's the thing we have found no evidence of the seller was honored beyond the fact that the years of miles cared a fully functioning other than that there's no evidence Garrett says Sir was used it off vehemently denies it everybody's moves forward I don't know what to make of it but the bottom line is this even if it was sad it does not justify what miles here it did and he acknowledges that himself we'll take a break when we return the patriots our interest in Antonio brown unless they are and if they aren't someone else will be we'll talk about that next on PFT live.

"Said it was a result of a racial slur directed at him by Mason Rudolph Garrett said during his appeal hearing I I'm it's like they have microphones in these hearings this will be the first known time Garrett who would spoke after the game offered in on of the offered an official apology after the day after mentoring Marshall shore was used about the inside so we hadn't heard anything until this until yesterday in the NFL said it found no evidence of Rudolph using a racial slur in that Rudolph the night through his lawyer using such language yeah I mean to me this is now now here's what Garrett said this I want to be accurate about this I was assured that the hearing was space that afforded the opportunity to speak openly and honestly about the in the incident that led to my suspension Garrett said in a statement that was not meant for public dissemination nor was it a convenient attempt to justify my actions or restore my image in the eyes of those I disappointed he goes I know what I heard whether my opponent comment was born out of frustration or ignorance I mean this is like a I I would say the other way yeah right you're frustrated maybe you're ignorant right right now I I know absolutely I mean and that the fact that he cares that much about these getting out like what that that right there says a lot about the hearing stuff in him being upset that I got out because upon him I would want the world to know that that's why right away that I did and I want to set it right after the game and and I would have said it to the point where if I ever hear that word in that directed towards me or any of my teammates I'm going after somebody right and then he goes and then goes what your eye to add to the frustration ignorance party says I cannot say his actions meaning of Mason Rudolph's actions but his actions do not excuse my lack of restraint in the moment and I truly regret the impact this has had on the league the Browns and are devoted fans so he is claiming that Mason Rudolph actions a listed at the reaction from him and this is the first we've heard of that yeah well I tell me he was that he was that on restraint on the field that he was able to calm the common self down after the game and become restrained short right of course an an and no point is we bring this up after the game would not be wise teammates brought it up right now one of his teammates they all they all crushed him basically instead I disappointed they didn't crusher was Odell Beckham junior said yeah sometimes guys going to be guys what do you have any also said that it felt like a loss afterwards because the thing that went on I'd add that while he you would have heard from one of his teammates at some point like if they would have said something along the lines in my opinion of like you know miles is going to say it but you'll find out like it's stuff like this you know it's not a bad guy there was a reason this happened I mean all that that stuff happens all the time but engineer thing from and then the guy to put this slop of a team together John Dorsey basically said in a statement he's the jam out there he is a man of high character in on questionable integrity integrity he was open and honest with us about the incident from the start yes taking accountability for his actions on Thursday night and this situation will not to find him so I don't really know what that means I don't know if he is saying that what miles Garrett said in yesterday's here he is what he told them back then but if you would have told them that over the with the last week or so sure you we would have heard it from some Marano shattered or what I had it locked in for ward had somebody somebody would have it yeah yeah I mean itself I don't know it it's just it's an ugly situation getting uglier for sure I will talk more about this take your calls get Jerry Recco in here with an update we got a bunch of giveaways today in a in a big cast at nine o'clock we'll tell you about a little bit.

"A message from the ad council eighty just in in a weekend program somebody there was a potential lawsuits I love that I was one of my favorite parts of that story Mason Rudolph reckoning litigation and now six days later he comes out and he makes a statement and to be clear okay I know that Mason Rudolph was the victim in this circumstance but his victim hood let's let's be honest about that okay it didn't hurt that much everything that physically happen there he was frustrated and enraged and he wasn't penalized and he threatened to sue those guards though no gods and his agent threatened to sue all right yeah they were looking into everyone crazy listen the road also always look in this what on the Paul dear white led the charge show are the Rudolph always looking to sue it's kind of turned a little bit on Mason Rudolph will but people are sort of starting to catch on even his statement was like yeah but some back well but let's let's backtrack for a second let's play that statement for the audience again because I found all of this puzzling you know the availability of quarterbacks tends to be pretty limited even if there is stinky is Mason road off like if their face of the franchise guys you know our interview basically once a week and it's a state of the union and it's an important thing and they say nothing for ten minutes and all they do is try to not answer your questions eight inches it is a waste of everybody's time right oxygen everybody every quarterback gets up there just think for all the content that we need on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays your ideas yeah you tell me how much of that weekly quarterback sound you see us playing on the as we have as a partner with these because these quarterbacks are boring on purpose so Mason Rudolph after that game gave you shocking sound when he was still a hissing radiator of rage he gave you shocking sound in which he called miles there to catch our instead it was bush league and they were honest feelings and then after six days through the scrub machine and I want you to imagine Mason road up just watch it walking through the Rooney's as they all brushing down I can just wear and giving dress socks and all of the Rooney's armament without a face phones that's right a leather helmet without a face mask and they struck him down and you know everybody here is you know grab their rosary beads and done their prayers and has been concerned for America's children and so now after six days after six think about it after six days there was a tremendous people go and prepare a statement form this is when he comes out with Thursday night to say the least it was an unfortunate situation for everyone involved I consider it a privilege not a right to be part of the NFL to be part of a first class organization representing really family the Pittsburgh Steelers and and I feel sure that expectation last Thursday night on the final play the game with the game in hand the way it was in a band we already lost.
Myles Garrett's Appeal
"Is additional information on me myles Garrett Mason Rudolph incident that occurred last Thursday and Thursday night football and Josefina. I'll ask you right now just to add what we learned today. Yeah sources telling me and Adam Schefter that myles Garrett made as part of his defense during the appeal hearing yesterday Per what he included in his defense that Mason Rudolph allegedly used a racial slur during the incident. Thursday night. Football as we're watching right here last last week and that he wanted to have this as part of the context as far as what her you know what happened and and that it created a argumentative exchange range during the appeal myles. Garrett had an opportunity to speak at the beginning of the appeal and also at the end. It's also my understanding that hearing officer James Thrash asked him if T- were to have something like this happen again. How we handle it differently? Hypothetically and Mas Garrett said that he wouldn't want this to escalate in this way and given the opportunity he would have tried to walk away. So we're still waiting for the decision for James Strache into basically figure out how this impacts if at all you know the decision from the hearing hearing officer with regards to the length of the suspension which right now is at an indefinite link. Good thank you for adding not myles. Garrett has been suspended indefinitely at the very least the rest of this regular regular Susan. Here is the response of the Pittsburgh steelers mason that is of course. Mason Rudolph vehemently denies the report of being accused of using a racial slur during the incident. Thursday night in Cleveland. St They're spokesman Bert Lawton said on Thursday. He will not discuss this accusation any further and his focus remains on preparation for Sunday's game game against the bengals. We're joined now by Adam schefter again Josefina and Adam reporting this story and Adam again additional information the accusation and the use of a racial slur. Well Wendy let me read to you. If you don't mind a statement that just came in moments ago from Mason Rudolph Attorney Timothy Younger because I feel like this is an important part of the story to get out there right now I'm just calling it up right now. We're getting into this as it's breaking here basically basically he says according to ESPN is appeal. myles Garrett myles Garrett falsely asserted that Mason Rudolph utter a racial slur towards him prior to swing a helmet of Mason's uncovered head in a desperate attempt to mitigate a suspension. This is a lie. This false allegation was never asserted by Garrett in the aftermath method game never suggested prior to the hearing and conspicuously absent in the apology published by the browns and adopted by Garrett then malicious use of this wild and unfounded unfounded. Allegation is an assault on Mason's integrity which is far worse than the physical assault witnessed on Thursday. This is reckless shameful. We will have no further comment that is from Timothy Younger. The attorney for Mason Rudolph when he heard of the allegations here this afternoon. Now the Pittsburgh steelers are out on the practice practice field as we speak and Mason Rudolph was scheduled to speak to the media following the practice session. We'll see whether or not he still does. But obviously we've you've got two versions of the events that have now unfolded at the. NFL appeal for myles Garrett indefinite suspension. We've got myles Garrett alleging that Mason Rudolph said something to him a racial slur that preceded that fight on Thursday night and we have Mason Rudolph strongly deny at least as attorney strongly strongly denying it and ruby up to the NFL to sort through this to determine what is real and what is not Adam Schefter. Thank you again to your point. The steelers have also released a statement saying that Mason denies any use of a racial slur. He did addressed media yesterday. Adam report he would have spoken again today. It appears unlikely. But here is what Mason Rudolph said yesterday definitely didn't say anything escalated it but like I said I do a better job. Keep my composure. And those situations uh-huh unfortunate situation for teams love again. The Information Shen this after noon is that during his defenses appellate hearing myles Garrett alleging Mason Rudolph used a racial slur that precipitated. What happened in that incident Thursday night? Let me just ask it. Simply if that is the case does it change in your mind anything that transpired after the fact no I still think regardless of what was said to you or regardless of you know what said racial slur was said. You still have to conduct yourself in a way that is conducive to others. Yes and not swinging a helmet isn't the way you combat that right swinging a helmet in the heat of the battle isn't the way you combat someone giving you a racial slur in that moment now how I can see where he would take it to that measure. I can understand that but this is the right thing to do. No so it's unfortunate. Obviously that that you know were here at this point in this in in this whole scenario are feels like it's just dragging on and on and on now But if there's racial so did occur. It's tough because there's one wins word against another. There's nobody else that's confirming coming. This is just someone saying it and it's just tough to kind of wrap your mind around all of this because of everything that's transpired up until this point would vick was saying the swinging over helmet and hitting somebody else in the head with that. I think that's where the the biggest issue was in the big shock factor that everyone saw that night. was somebody getting hit with a helmet right right if the helmet was never swung. There isn't the suspension for the rest of the season. I think that's it's pretty simple. So the whole racial thing yes. That's it's a very serious allegation and it's a serious thing thing but at the end of the day it's swinging a helmet at the violence of that is the reason that that he is suspended for length of time that he's suspended for for and just to be clear here one more time. The facts are simply these myles. Garrett has alleged that Mason Rudolph used a racial Slur Mason Rudolph via the steelers and his representation tation has vehemently denied that. And that's really where we stand myles. Garrett has been suspended indefinitely the very least the remainder of the regular season we. I do not know yet the outcome of that appellate hearing and. That's not the only thing that was stated you guys talked about yesterday. The precedent that was mentioned with regards to the Antonio Smith with Vincent with Richie Incognito at instance. You know being different when you're talking about distinguishing whether helmet hit someone on the head and in one incident where that did not happen now when I was talking to sources last night about this trying to say you know well if it's not a complete apples to apples comparison you know. How do you necessarily bring that up? As part of Malls Garrett's defense offense and I was told well players have an expectation for somewhat similar disciplined with regards to somewhat similar instances in my retort back was I could see how the NFL would come back and say well especially now that we're in the age of the NFL putting an emphasis on ahead being hit that they could make that distinction in that. There is where the difference is now with regards to your question to you. Know them and you know how does that. Add to the context of the situation. Obviously Fli myles Garrett should never have used a helmet on Mason Rudolph had that said any racial slur in and of itself is also important and is it's not something that should be tolerated in any workplace during any scenario as well. Well we will continue to follow this again Anderson. Adam schefter reporting that as part of his his defense and his appellate hearing myles Garrett is alleging that Mason Rudolph used a racial slur prior to the incident. That occurred Thursday night. We will have much more on this to come. Ah
Beyond the Helmet Hit: Who is Myles Garrett?
"Myles Garrett delivered enact that will define him for the rest of his. NFL career from now on no matter what he does people will always remember myles Garrett Eric as the guy that could have killed football player on a football field by taking his helmet and swinging it like a weapon. Brown's defensive end myles Garrett has appealed suspension for striking steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph in the head with his own helmet. Who is the player behind that violent image Mitch burned into fans minds? ESPN's Ryan Smith sat down for extensive interviews with Garrett before this fateful season began today today. The story of mild-mannered pass rusher. WHO's now at the center of a football firestorm? It's Thursday November twenty first. I mean this is. ESPN daily presented by Dell small-business yesterday myles myles Garrett went to New York to appeal his suspension. What happened but let's remember this all stems from the game Thursday Night Ryan Smith is a correspondent and legal analyst for ESPN CLEVELAND Browns? Pittsburgh steelers and in the final seconds Mason Rudolph and myles Garrett get into who it and myles Garrett pulls off Mason Rudolph Helmet and hits them with and getting in there was myles Garrett. Ain't took the helmet off off and slammed him on the top of the head. Oh my goodness data and Garett an indefinite suspension at minimum suspended for the rest of the season and the playoffs offs myles Garrett is agent his lawyers they all met in front of an appointed artless common arbitrator for this James Thrash. A person I would hear this case former. NFL Player and presented his case. Any argued from precedent. He basically said that a couple years back. You're a player for the Texans. Antonio Smith swung his helmet at then. Offensive Lineman Richie Incognito for the dolphins and that earned Smith a two game suspension during the preseason and a one game regular season suspension so for Garrett and his people the arguments simple. That's what happened the last time something like this this happened. And that's what should happen for me. Knock a lengthy suspension. I'm getting right now Ryan Myles Garrett. Wasn't the only player involved in the news this today. Mason Rudolph also gave a statement from my involvement. Last week there is no acceptable. Excuse the bottom line is I should have done a better job keeping my composure. In that situation and fall short when I believe it means it'd be a Pittsburgh steeler a member of the NFL. What did you make of that? Here Mason Rudolph is on the day that myles Garrett is having his appeal hearing and he gets up in front of everybody and he apologizes for his. Is Babe you're in this. I found this stunning here. You've got a guy accused of attacking another guy getting lengthy suspension for it and on the day of the hearing the person who arguably I guess you could say has been victimized comes up and talks about his part in it and almost in some ways exonerates the aggressor and in a way showed that. Hey we all had a role in this and nobody should be excused. Everybody has a little bit of blame. I have no ill will towards myles Garrett great respect for his ability as a player and I know this you know if miles could go back you would handle the situation differently Ryan part of the reason I wanted to talk about this story with you is that you spend a lot of time with myles Garrett. You interviewed him for sixty this summer. You got to know him so I was wondering wondering where were you when you first saw the incident. And what was your reaction. I was at home and I was just kind of hanging out flipping through the channels stop by ESPN. And I see something involving myles Garrett and I. It doesn't really compute to me what I'm looking at. But then as I looked closer I realize is exactly what he did. And and I'm hearing the commentary I'm hearing the outrage but the first word that popped in my mind was why I would never ever in any way. Excuse the conduct. It's just an excusable no matter what happened but I spent better couple days with them in our reporting for east sixty and this was a guy who's introverted. This was a guy who in some ways is mild mannered. Heard if you can believe it and this was about as far as anything I would expect from myles Garrett based on the Guy I know what is it that brought him to this point. Well who has the guy you knew. What was it like when you met him? You know what's so interesting. I got to tell you the very first time I met him. He walks downstairs to sit in our interview chair. And he's wearing a queen shirt. He starts talking about Queen loves the group loves. The music is imploring me to go see the movie that kind of is myles Garrett in a nutshell he's exactly nothing like what you would expect from a guy who replays the way he does who appears the way he is his interest are so wide ranging. It was nothing like anything I ever expected. He loves poetry a tree. He's been writing poetry since he was a boy emslie. He walks among the missed unseen. Two most he doesn't exist. He loves COMEX. He's going to comecon this year to attend some events somewhere down the line. I left to go and not to species for. Hey I'm just here to house and finally the costumes. Maybe one day no just myself. He wanted to dress dragon. Ball Z. Character he he loves anime things like that at the beginning of the interview he said to me I was a boy who report Mama for other man to play Publ Myles Myles Garrett. The person is far different from myles Garrett the football player what did you learn about his upbringing. I mean this is a guy who came from a family of athletes so much talent athletically. His mom was an all American American in track. His sister won a national championship. In track is brother played basketball for the nets. And I'm not just talking about average athletes but really really top level athletes another flight. You can do anything like do whatever makes you happy. But you're going to play some sports. He had sort of this. Love hate relationship that that was more hate when it comes to football playing football at that time even though really didn't want to but at that time I really didn't care for bod playing coming back are you can't play vic so played off of the linemen definitely not for me. I played the game and good at it but there was something missing was Kinda and that passion for the game so it was kind of hard to be okay amounts. His First Love was really basketball and at one point when he was in high school athletic director wanted him to play football. so He's a look. You can play basketball as long as you play football. So how does does he go from being a kid who wasn't even sure if he wanted to play the sport to being the number one overall draft pick and it's a really interesting story when he was around around his sophomore year coaches sat him down parents in the room and they sorta gave him an ultimatum. So you're GONNA put your heart in it or you're not what you're gonNA stop waste of People's time laid it all on the line or you can bring your hips almond bus. Sit Down and do I really want this. Do I really WANNA play football. I'm all my life and they say this the get it. No you could be one of the best. It could be the best player in the nation. This guy is a competitor like he wants. That's to win. And I think when he heard that that it could be the best in the country that SORTA gave him permission to sort of go after people to be the aggressive to be fiery on the field. It wasn't about hurting people. It was about showing people that he is the best that he can be the best best and from then on his play chains really started piling up sack numbers by midway through his senior year. Now you got scores scouts else coming in to see him and as he says. Nick Sabin

"I mean what is Mason Rudolph showed you I mean obviously put the stuff of miles Garrett aside for a second but I mean what what that miles Kerr thing actually did kind of cover up because that became the story was the fact that Mason Rudolph was not very good in that game there was a lot of pics like Philip rivers you played against all three you lie Philip Bedros are like and I think that all server comes back next year I'm not even so sure the Eli manning is done I think that he might try to find another team next year you know rank because you have been sold a few seven your praise zero been like soul on Philip rivers you said that he is one of the toughest guys you've ever played against and you had to battle the Ben Roethlisberger who where how would you make write some one two three I will go been one I will go for a look to in delight three people are gonna think that sounds like your knee later is is not really like appreciate what Eli's men and what he's been but if you take his regular season what he's done it is it is it is S. of accomplished as those two and you can say yeah this scene was built differently because early on it was bill behind Brandon Jacobs Ahmad Bradshaw in in way ward but he never put up those type of numbers consistently you think about those two quarterbacks yesterday van has the winds and he's been in a tough division but he hasn't he hasn't before like those the the other two on the daughter regular season I know like his his his famous come from the playoffs and so if I had to go but you can't deny with Philip rivers is done over regular season but you can't give you actively cat Sir Ben Rosberg because he has the same amount of championships and he's strong for crazy amounts of yards the fact that the fact that he lied has missed the playoffs so many times suggested you can't put him up to higher than the rest of the guys because we always talk about a force multiplier and meaning that he can cover up some of the flaws is saying he has been a cover up some of flaws as much as maybe band has or maybe Philip rivers because we know one thing about that team and and and San Diego now in Los Angeles they've they're never healthy they've always been planned shorthand in there sure handed again this year right now I just feel like you I also I mean was I mean talk about being short handed in teams that you know were expected to be just a lot better than they wore and wasn't you lie you know it is not blameless here obviously the interceptions the bad decisions things like that but I don't know I I'm feeling as to Maggie's win loss record is almost approaching five hundred five hundred that was not a that's what I based of beers in there why was bad yet no Philip rivers like twenty games over five hundred but Philip rivers post season record five and six you know it is a completion percentage in the post season under fifty percent you know just in an obviously listen he played one year on a torn ACL so you got to give them kudos for game play all games using plant and and he played on a torn ACL so you know that's just like great and you try to do the best you can for your team at that point but you know it it's you I got better in the post season on those two runs Philip rivers did not let's go to the phones eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six jobs in Melville New Jersey what up John they're gone I don't want to go back to what you were saying before about the gentleman in the hog Molly yeah when they brought in the new GM he was supposed to bring in hog Molly and build from trenches like you said and the offense of line to me seems worse than when he got here in many respects four hours Nate Saunders been horrible might remember did injured is horrible he was bad in Minnesota I don't quite understand that will and I don't see anyone left tackle array cattle in the trenches decorator come up and be the next guy Hernandez has I think will Hernandez's is a guide and as I was doing good okay I mean those guys are okay but I still I don't see this offense that weren't really developing they're better than it was before John you got to give him credit for that it's better than it was when when you light as it was or see it now sold as not been good he's out injured in you know apart I would probably just stick with Nick gates you know I I'd stick with gates and and see what he can do Intel's older is actually ready I mean you can't just bet straight a bench older because it's all about Daniel Jones United you need to give them as much help as possible you know it's crazy with this team be better if it was Nelson in Jones opposed to Jones in se Kwan because remember they they had opportunity to move back and get more pics in Nelson has almost like I've never seen it a guard maybe since Larry Allen or maybe Steve Hutchison while to have such an impact early on to be sold dominates so early in his career and the jazz was right there with the opportunity to move back in the jets were to to move back and get a piece like that we use will see this type of domination from Kerr says that name Larry Allen well the jets going to just stay put and got him right there and the giants I mean it that's Dave Gelman if you want to go by is history he is never traded back in any draft that he has run let's go to Dave isn't living stand wants to talk about you are manning and Philip rivers in the comparison what updates yeah hi yellowed carriers that you don't mention that group the pad Chargers governor drew Brees to take Philip rivers a colossal mistake on their part probably because then the Superbowl money was coming off a really devastating shoulder injury I mean and in hindsight yeah that looks like a terrible idea because drew Brees is also going to go to the hall of fame but I mean at the time that they were really sure how that shoulder was going to respond remember the team wasn't that good that's what a draft the deliberate refers round remember drew Brees was a second round pick and they were just kind of transition from Doug Flutie too it's kind of a weird transition time in our history well remember also fill Brevard that the benefit of playing on the west coast and a lot better weather than the lie has I mean to me you lies just the more prolific winner than Philip rivers ever will be absolutely when our whole career wait a minute whether thank yeah it should be okay so is and should be even more revered because he played a great absolutely Philip rivers having just the same amount of staff shortages Roethlisberger the light plane half of his career in perfect weather all those guys play in that in one north state and played an adult and Peyton manning five year should just be our drew Brees I think when you whenever you hear somebody reasons people are out there it's because he played so much was green the dome in the scenes could ever win big games outside the dome I think it's absolutely thing one of my day to Philadelphia they still go to Denver and they still do they still go to Kansas city which isn't great places the plight and every game has the perfect we're using my regular season stats as an argument and you have to take into a fact that what decisions that he played okay but think about the other party with his second windiest leading the league life does you know favors no favors but then sometimes once again Tom Brady is the greatest well then I know I think Jim Kelly that should be a higher yeah like I think that then you know nobody really talks about One of the ugliest on-field altercations in the history of sports
"Did you see the end of the NFL game last night the Thursday night game turned into foot brawl and it may be the ugliest thing I've seen in sports in a long long time you Michael more people have seen the fight and then were actually watching the game since it's very true what we're talking about is this in the closing seconds of the game miles Garrett one of the Cleveland defenders took down Mason Rudolph the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and as he was taking them down there were some words grabs Mason Rudolph's helmet rips it off of Rudolph's head and tries to beat him with it basically assault I don't know if you would call it a deadly weapon but it was certainly a soft with a blunt instrument that is made to be very hard okay Mason Rudolph thankfully did not have his skull split open he seemed to be okay but never the less there has been a big fallout from the league and a lot of questions about criminality a lot of questions about what's appropriate punishment for this kind of on field behavior that could have resulted in yet and at an opposing player with a critical injury and apparently no regard

K. did a a very routine on being on the airplane I heard and everyone theirself what's that I say I heard that it's great yeah it's Hilarious so everyone's on their cell phone when you're on the plane because they they you know eventually ask you to turn them off because it screws up the fucking air-traffic people talking to the airplane or something and so everyone's madly trying to get in their last minute of texts or emails or whatever and he said the guy in front of him is is trying to China log onto something and pushing the buttons like gritting his teeth going come on come on what is it takes so long Jesus you know of course lew he goes let's let's remember back to the day when there was nothing and then angles relaxed dude it's gotta go to space first okay and down he was super funny man superfund he's talking about like you know just completely a pounding these useless people that are going this is bullish on my Internet is not working right now or is it bullshit you're engaging in the miracle of flight right now you waste of space you're thirty thousand feet in the air and a chair do you know there's a the other one is hilarious is the guy was in front of me at that confectioner whereby my smokes the other day and he's he's reading something and tells the guy use debit could use my debit card and the guy handsome the little the little hand held you know credit debit card being there you know they use and he pulls out his car and he goes to tap right to tap on it and the guy says we don't have any top and the guy goes you've got to be kidding me no I'm not I'm not lying Steve Jesus it's high you get the tap here I stick my card in there and and do this over four seconds instead of one second you know Ah gotTa Push Buttons Oh my God what a nuisance what a disaster yeah yeah or if you're searching something I get sucked into that cortex four nights a week of flipping through you know you see a video on facebook that someone sent out you know this is hilarious you know what a dog being another dog's balls you know this is so funny and then you click on that and then you get a bunch of dogs licking other dogs balls bunch of videos Steve right do you and then all of a sudden you'll you'll start to get you know adopting pets stuff we talked about that before but it's just absolutely insane you know now now to try and figure out a song Steve Okay and I go through this all the time is all here a song somewhere you know on on on TV or watching a show or a soundtrack from from a movie or in the mall or something here song and they hadn't met remember that announce right where you just click on this you get this app you click on it and you hold your phone up and it can tell you what the song is Sommese radio it's like well that's Georgia on my mind by Willie Nelson Holy Shit but the one where you hum the song you can get it isn't that nuts totally nuts or or used to be plugging in the word title of song and maybe there's a bunch of different guys cover it and do you want like want Willie's version of Georgia on my mind so you you don't know you you can't remember who did plug in Georgia and that'll spit out all the options right the other one you can do now steve if you're trying to remember a song that you heard yesterday and you can't you can't you don't know what the title was you got no idea but you remember a line or two from the song okay and and you know one of the lines was country tune when I got home from work I walked I and my wife was banging the neighbor whatever it remember that I love that Song F- All right you can plug that and then it'll spin up the song and I have to exit from Michael all the time because she is very musically inclined and he's you know very obsessive and so if he gets a song in his head he'll come up to me and the sound hound actually will give that to you if you're if you're even remotely close to humming the song and that's how I was able to do it that one time in one of our early episodes were Michael Boston and needed to know the name of a song and I think it was by good Charlotte if memory serves bunch of listeners actually played along but yeah kind of ebina technologies pretty cool yeah if you think back to the radio days for before the Internet Okay and even after the Internet came along my sister is making is a musician and back when she started performing if you wanted to record it as cd you would you'd have to have a couple of grand to rent a studio you know and musicians you know if you if you need session guys you know you want to have a little saxophone or something right. It was unfortunate wait is now is you can do it on your ipad you know it's got its onboard can equal need a couple of weeks they can plug into your laptop and it's unbelievable the quality for nothing or think of us this podcast right it sounds like on the radio sounds really good right and all scores seventy goal scores so put that away and get you thinking cap ready for that one.

"That will happen. I say that with a hundred percent confidence. They are going to give roths burger and extension. How many more years logistically does? He have left before they start to say. Okay. We gotta start looking ahead. We gotta get Mason Rudolph. We gotta get Joshua Dobbs acclimated. Because it's it's it's time. Brian. What about you? What do you think? How many years is Big Ben have left? You know, what I think they're going to turn it around next season. So I think that's going to increase it to three. But if next season's the disaster, I'm gonna say one and a half, maybe two at the tops. What about you? Dave. You would ask that three years ago out of told you to but now with you gotta love the the offensive line. And how Ben is just not getting knocked around. So therefore he could play I think he's going to get a three year extension. I think he'll play for at least two of those three. Barring injury. You're just waiting for that one freak someone steps on the side of his foot. He rolls. An ankle someone rolls up on after thrown a ball. I think that's what's going to take Ben out more than age. I think will be just one of those ridiculous wrong place. Wrong time injuries that knocks him out for a little while at is just going to be so hard to come back and never quite be the same. It's just it's time and time again with so many players that that's what I think eventually get to Ben. So you never know when that's going to be that could be game one of next season that could be three years from now true in if I could mention something about the offensive line real quick. I think that this situation with Ben Roethlisberger is equally tied to the how long Mike munch Dak stays here. Because when Mike munch leaves? There will be a decline with that defy that offensive line. I'm not saying it's forgotten conclusion, but those guys are getting longer in the tooth, and unless you start bringing new blood in if munch leaves those guys are older Ben's gonna have shorter career here. Now, you're right right injury. Certainly something you have to weigh and I think if he stays healthy. I look at the contracts of those players behind him. You know, Josh widows is entering his third year in the league. Mason Rudolph entering his second. I think in an ideal circumstance you see what you have in Rudolph, especially while he still under his rookie contract. Then again, I guess you could possibly benefit from him getting a new contract without playing often because you might be able to get him on the cheap. In other words, if he's let's Ben plays the duration of this extension. If it is three years, Dave guest if that's four years. That's the ended his rookie contract of the Steelers. Sign him to a three year deal very cheap Rothlisberger retires at Mason Rudolph plays. Well, you basically have him on another rookie deal. It's a little bit inflated. I get that. But still it's it's cheap. So I see both sides of that. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out. We all agree raw this burgers got a few years left offense of line together. Mike munch axes to becoming back. After the Broncos did not choose him to be head coach good news for Pittsburgh. And we actually have some competition this training camp. That's gonna be fun to watch. I'm gonna be anxious to see what? Mason Rudolph has in. The funny thing is Dave you mentioned it. I've said it before another shows about how Mason Rudolph comes from the big twelve Oklahoma state. They've run a lot of shotgun. He was never under center there. I'll tell you what. I'd love to see this detested. I'm not sure if you can even find this out Dave is how many what is the percent of offenses naps. Rob Berger took under center this year. Not any that would be interesting. And I I don't even know how to find that one. I don't need any. Any go through the games play by play. Now, you don't have to do that. But a lot of you'll say, well, he broke his finger BS. He prefers the shotgun. They prefer to run out of the shotgun now. So to me Mason Rudolph when he had all the ball security issues a lot of that was because he was under center this offense isn't based under center anymore..
