Caring for COVID-19 positive patients in New York
"Kobe nineteen pandemic has brought with it many trials and tribulations. We're facing them other healthcare systems are too especially those in hub. In this episode, you'll hear from, Dr, Jeffrey Johnson who's one of our critical care physicians in south, West Wisconsin in Rochester and we'll learn about his experience and learning from carrying for Kobe patients in New York City. Welcome to reimagining community care podcast, and thanks for listening in I'm bobby gas style with co hosts, Mary Jo Williamson and ashes the mood. We continue recording the podcast via zoom trying our best to share this conversation as if we were relieved together in our favorite coffeeshop. We can only wish we were together in our favorite coffee shop right now but very excited about the discussion today. Well, the pandemic has no doubt challenged us in many ways and tested our patients and endurance. There is a silver lining. It has created new opportunities for us to serve in unexpected ways and to learn an innovate. It really takes me back to our story Mayo Clinic came to life from a crisis in Rochester and has become a global leader in healthcare from decades of continuous learning and innovation. So today, we'd like to welcome Dr Jeffrey, Johnson an anesthesiologist in critical care in both Lacrosse in. Rochester. Dr Johnson had a really unique opportunity to care for covert patients in New York in the height really of the pandemic. Actor Johnson thank you so much for joining us. Today. We're excited to hear how the Cova crisis became an opportunity for you to help others and also to bring back learnings to Mayo Clinic. Well. Thank you for having me. I appreciate the opportunity to discuss my time in New, York the care of these patients during the pandemic. Definitely was a experience of a lifetime really changed my approach to looking at life in general, truly an eye opening opportunity and I'm looking forward to sharing what I learned during my time there. Texture Johnson, how did that opportunity come about and why did you decide to go? So. You know I have a clinical obligation as well as administrative one and like many of us on this in this call, we're very busy during the early phase of the spring planning for the pandemic in South West Scott's and And so during that time, I've been getting emails from colleagues around the world Italy France discussing what they're experiencing as ice you doctors. They were pretty impressive and so I was seeing those society of crew care medicine early on during the pandemic actually was sending out emails intensiveness asking to come to New York if they're able to go. But clearly during all our planning things, I couldn't make that trip but still wait on the fortunately though you know as it worked out, we hit a lull. We were prepared as much as we could be. So responded to that inquiry after getting support from my local leaders and across. Rochester. And how long from when you decided until you left for New York Think. It was about two weeks when I was another colleague of mine who actually was doing the same thing I didn't know it at the time, but he was already working through the process to get support from high leadership in the organization and so by the time we got approval and by the time I was in Europe is just about two weeks. That, you're Jensen I can't even imagine what it was like to walk into that environment on your first day in New York. Share with us. Some of your very first observations were about the situation. Even, my observations before New, York made an impression on me. You know part of the process this aside of critical care medicine worked it out that they united. Airlines was flying volunteers offer free and so. connected to Rochester Ando hair and all of us for most of them have been hair during normal busy normal times and what struck me as I got off the plane waiting for my connection to New York was the quiet. The hallways were empty. The only people you saw were usually employees related to the airport you look out on the tarmac. Planes lined up in formation that clearly indicated they were. Shut down and not going to be used for any period of time. And then when I flew into New York it was much the same having been in New York, a few other times before really impressed me with again the quiet the lack of people there was no congregating in the park areas really what made in pressure with me my distance from the airport I landed at into the hotel I was staying was about twenty miles and it actually took us about twenty minutes. I can't think of the last time as a New York where that timeline fit distance. So it was pretty surreal to fly into a city that's known for being busy twenty four hours and seeing how quiet it was. and so New York itself as a group or as the city was quiet but and then I made it to the hospital the next day and had different observation deck to new the word quiet, which to me is sort of a calming word. But I suspect that the impression we should associate with that word is more eerie. A good description it really was. It was eerie hang. BEEN IN NEW YORK. was completely different than what I remember. There was an anxiety in the city sense it the Uber driver I interact with you know he was very tense They actually created a plastic barrier between the front seat in the backseat of his private vehicle using duct tape and Saran wrap. And then obviously everybody was wearing Maso. Yeah. The quiet really wasn't required.
The Xbox Series S could have had a very different look
"Been able to get an xbox yet. No thank you bringing it up again. Really want. Either neither of you guys get one I should just try. To get it of course, she would. Then you could auction it off between. Two Thousand Dollars Mary Jo. Wanted to take pictures of it like it is plant in. Exeter, the S. E. Has. Sleep on it. That is something by the way, the a lot of people buying the S. For, some reason because it's Everyone wants the X. Right. All the cool kids get the s like because the s the cheap. One. I think some people are buying experts. One S is. By the way that definitely happened. Because really. The problem with this branding these these names and bass confusing when you see the Can Get. Lucky. On a different level though. So remember with xbox one, there were there was the original xbox one that was the s and the ex they were all xbox one consoles. So, what do you call consoles? There's a series s in a series act. So what's the name of the console? Generation? Right xbox series series. It's a terrible name. It's not a name I'm convinced that there are a lot of DADS out there. Who went out and bought it. Soon. Harmony and they saw the one s great. This is what junior wanted to go the accident. Got It at a crazy low price. They think they're geniuses way. Save GonNa. Tell, Christmas Day. I was going to be a problem. Yeah Anyway Is it expected Sony said they would this would happen that there will be another trunch of. Xbox and so you just keep your eye on these sites and I emailed Microsoft Unai told me that there would be more before the line good publicly. However, it's been interesting because I've seen other places quote him as saying we will have more at lunch. but they told me Berlin. So yeah, I actually, I put a dedicated Ethernet port in the wall for it. Yeah I'm serious. Screen again I painted. I have a home for you just come on. So he said, this is the xbox series confused. That means that would help. That's a weird problem but the branding I know why I mean s Synnex kind of map to the previous down like I get that part of it but but what generate they didn't they left out what generation this is. Very. Strange. Yeah. That's confusing I. Think it's
From big cities to backyards, July 4 not usual blowout bash

"Note Pad Project Jake Paul Surat. It's time for your the week. Well you didn't tell anybody you were doing this right. I've been people can follow along. You know I wasn't sure how. How much of no paddock duplicate? And it turns out almost all of it. there's a couple of Commands in their around find and replace. That are very difficult to do dot insurmountable. But I haven't done them yet. The problem is that requires custom you. I got to wrap Paul. You got a photograph Noriko Grip and Ach Ach I want. I Want Command Line off capability just saying that core project. Yeah well it's just libraries. Like does I mean a lot of this is a framework provided by windows and dot net. Right yeah so I what I wanted to do what you've done by means no. It's okay so I could do it in ten minutes. Obviously my child. Wow did not writing the programming window series over the summer and one of the things I was playing around with old coating Environments and things like that but I was really drawn to the dot net stuff. I used to be sort of a developer and I when the world happened I was no longer really a developer source. Kind of writing about it from the outside looking in and I wanted to really experience some of that stuff and so I figured over time I would work with windows forums with WPF and then eventually W P and probably other things Pwa. Whatever this is the best I mean? I'm so impressed. This is how this is what makes you stellar is is. You're not just just writing abstractly about this stuff deeply. Understand it and you're doing well. I mean you could argue. I had been writing abstractly but I mean yeah yeah so I just wanted to Kinda. I dove into windows forms because it's the simplest. I'm using visual basic because it's the simplest and it's something I have a background it and I just wanted to see what was possible. And a lot of the things I sort of thought had happened with dot net and with windows forms. Were not true chest. this this thing is a lot more are closer closer to classic than I thought it was. I was Kinda surprised so yeah I mean a lot of this is putting together the right Controls which are prebuilt for you you and then it just kind of tying up the event handlers or whatever but some of it's pretty cool like I I some of it. I didn't think I'd be able to do and it happened I think that's kind of NEAT. So so where I'm at today. Is If you look at all the many if you look if you bring up notepad you look at the file. Many of the edit menu the view menu whatever's in there this maybe five five or six commands. I haven't done yet and the hard ones are that while the printing stuff is horribly broken in I in in windows forms they screw that up and then The like I said the edit not at it find replace stuff like that. There's a couple in there and that's that's about it. You know like I pretty much did the rest of it It works pretty good so I started thinking like I wonder if this stuff I could add to this. You know like extend nopadol Bibi. I don't WanNa make get like a crazy different APP with like tool bars and stuff but I was wondering if there was stuff you could add to know pad that would make it. Better way to uh-huh uh-huh well for example like one thing I was doing with my markdown editors was I it's Kinda theme type of thing and so instead of like black text on wight. It's like black text on light grey so I added the ability to you know super simple. It's the simplest thing in the world to do this but you can just kind of changed the theme anybody. uh-huh brilliant programmers. Never telling anybody how easy it is. Yeah Aleppo's stupid so this other stuff. I'm working on anyone. US ideas not going to be in the store. There's an opening for. Yeah I mean what is your intent. This is really a personal project just to to learn right but if you WANNA release it I mean no no. No no but I could tell you you don't because then you have to support it right right. Yeah Yeah Yeah Right. It's easy to write the code. It's a pain in the PM support users well. People people provide feedback. They find little problems or whatever. And it's like okay you know and you you know whatever yeah it's It plus windows forms is obviously about a date. Although I will say this. What's interesting is if you WANNA make a traditional desktop application like a productivity app you actually kind of have to use windows forms I mean W? PF is much closer to Uw. P Than it is to windows forms and I. I did not expect that. As it's it was the start Zamel the start of using a like descriptive Markup language to describe grab the UI rather than you know. Here's what it looks like. You know in a visual form like Windows forms visual basic right. I mean you can. I mean you can do written c sharp as well. But it's if you know what visual basic was like windows forms was basically just the new version of that when WPF is completely different They run those a desktop applications. But those the applications where you know the textile flow around stuff if you change the size of the window and it's responsive and Agile is how we would describe it today. it's actually a lot like YouTube. EP It's just not A. It's not a bubble platform but it's it's not these traditional national you I. It's it's it's interesting thing that's great. I mean you can follow along with Paul's Development yes it's supposed to I didn't realize this I must have I've been following. I go down and you know went down a couple of black. You know one way dead end streets and had you know kind of step back and stuff but a bunch of Mathis is great. It's I thought it was cool. Yeah I have a couple of things. Sorry so helpful for people who want to develop and it's encouraging to. Because you look at it and you get kind of walks you along and you don't want to like well I like I. I'm relearning this are learning it so I can't say like I'm GonNa teach you how to program because I'm not but but I have enough of a background where I can kind of like okay. I think should work like this. And I think you know and sometimes it's right and sometimes it's wrong But I I guess I'll say is I I. I was able to do more of it than I thought I was going to be able to do. And I actually think could completely duplicate it. It's pretty close call It's just is that the the the I think you should call it. Mary Jo Mary Jo Mary Jo. MJ Pad and J Pat. And just make it like this. And then Mary Jo's does your only only tester could be her Like her like meet little Emoji face you know. Is there anything Mary Joe that so you would say it would wouldn't know pat would be better for you if Paul put that in nothing just it works and one of the features Paul. Here's a weird piece of no pet trivia. I forget who the third person here but you know who wrote the original ped- Raymond Chen. Oh Yeah Lawrence Yep and there's one other person at Microsoft who is on that team and I can't remember who it is but I remember one day I was talking about no pat and Laura butlers said had to me you know I'm one of the people who wrote that so I know so she was the one they didn't before she left Microsoft and technical obviously and Chen still. You're still their rights. Yeah Yep So yeah you have some big shoes to fill palm. Well probably a lot. Ease April. I wrote scratch. You know and C. Plus mistaken didn't they open sourced this was did they do know pat or was it. Only calculator was calculated right. Okay yeah so I would imagine that the notepad that's in windows today is written. CNC Plus plus artists. And it's probably a horrific amount of. I can't even imagine what went secreting. Nuts it the way I'm doing. It's much easier in fact one of the things I was trying to show people were not. Programmers is creating a graphical application. Like you know if or if I should say if you're creating an application graphically like we're doing here it's amazing how much you can do without reading any code. You know you got a bunch of stuff just from plus likes going to build it with power APPS I.

"Missiles being launched. Its House right whoops so they had twice the attendees of. That's really interesting. So for us us as tech reporters. I'll tell you. This is a very worrisome development. Right because Amazon just taken yesterday. If you covered Amazon your day yesterday was like. Here's five thousand thousand announcements. Throw everything to now so for us at night like they give us a book of news every year like pages. You don't WanNa see a turn turned into an encyclopedia right and so I'm just like Oh man. I hope they don't turn this even bigger at Microsoft because it's already unmanageable for us is arm in the cloud. God is that a choice because I mean why do you want arm in the power racist low-power I would guess really. Don't you want power power. Not right well right. Maybe we'll be midday right. There are all kinds of different ways to charge. Yeah for cloud computing. Power talked Yeah I mean you could. You could try Jonah. You know what you call it. TCU basis or a what's the term Per Watt. Yeah so here's what Amazon says Graviton to boasts two times faster floating point performance per core for scientific and high performance workloads support for up to sixty four virtual. CPU's twenty five gigabits per second of networking eighteen gigabits per second of e B s span with emergency broadcast system. I don't know what that says. Yeah and also pressure on Intel right. Yeah a lot the poor Intel Intel. But you know you hate to see a former monopolist down hard. Andy Grove is right. You gotta stay paranoid they boy. There's they got their lunch eaten by. AMD on Black Friday. Yeah Apple is not unhappy and there's always chip shortages right favorites. Somebody said in the chat room. ABS Elastic Block block story. Oh come on hey. Elastic storage bands. And you put them in a block. Is that it yeah okay. Super Data Lake do powered elastic band with stuff used to presence of the cartoon and it would come out on it Cillian it's elastic block storage nutshell. Usually you keep it in Eg though block grant you could. It's one way to store. Data experimental data sleepy based data system storage system. I guess aws this is looking to become the apple of cloud. This is Larry Dignity article on. CD AWS will have a choice of processors offer providers as well as services and instances. But they're putting their wait behind this seven nanometer gravitons to processor. I guess he's lacking into Apple's a twelve thirty building custom chips. Everyone's building custom awesome chips. Yeah I mean Microsoft in the Chew Right. This is the best thing that's ever happened Microsoft. They need this creek as when life gets kicked they really they really go after it. And we've seen that with Azure. It's incredible what's going on there. So thank you for for lighting a fire. We have all seen what happens when that doesn't happen. I'll just point to internet explorer six as an obvious example. You know it's funny because I remember Linus Torvald talking about the fact that Intel is ubiquitous in cloud. And he said we're not you know until arm is ubiquitous in the cloud. We're not going to really pay much attention to it will guess guess what hip yeah. It's it's funny because obviously arm chips are ideal for mobile devices but but because of the power requirements of data center I think they could be huge data center. Oh yeah absolutely. It's really been about performance. But I think this is because it's is a seventy one in any meaningful way even if you have required twice as many chips or something if they're running such a lower power envelope You know the the cooling requirements the data centers probably the big expense that right so the first gravitons graviton one was was an arm processor as well. It just wasn't a particularly sixteen nanometer arm process with five billion transmitter transistors. This one is seven nanometers with thirty billion transistors as a comparison Amdi epic Rome. Their server chip has thirty still. Can't run sixty four. Bit X Saint Six APPs Jess Darn it. Maybe windows on arm would run well on this. Gravity graviton based Laptop all I can say is my bet is Microsoft is working on this. If Amazon did it they're going to do it right. And after now I mean and they're they've we've seen hence that they have arm based servers in their data centers and Amazon's five G.. Relationship is with Verizon S. Microsoft's is with a teensy you can just look at one and the other. It's tit for tat right. Yeah I'll do that good competitions. Good for us. Really they get it will make my prediction come true that one day there will be one azure service for every single human being on earth. Well there's already hundreds a couple of quickies in the mobile and Development Space Microsoft remote desktop is getting an update on IOS. Yeah these are small stories but Just real quick on the The irs version of remote desktop. The big deal there is in. This thing had not been updated. I think in a year year or so but it supports windows virtual desktop service. That's the that's the big bit. I mean there's a bunch of stuff going on there but that's that's the big one so that makes tons of sense I was actually not aware of this particular kind of interesting Microsoft launched an APP a couple years ago for lending Chinese on iphones Creatively titled Microsoft. Learn Chinese. He's also it has a Alan looks suspiciously like the owl from duo lingo but You know whatever So that APP is now available on. IOS does it to face ace recognition. Yeah it's super accurate in China. I guess we should all alling Chinese since our new overlords Exactly probably expect to a little child abuse an arm. CPA's and some kind of Weiwei Os and Wow Russian Russian. Yeah well now. They're in cahoots now. That's the interesting so you've got Putin and she we're going to. It's going to be great. It's going to be so excited sure. Okay I can't wait to run Putin. Os Put us Seeing a I what is that. This is really cool so this is an APP for the people who are blind and have low vision and previously. It was available on the in English and now it is available in five languages. I guess it should probably look and see what those those languages are. I can tell you French German Japanese and Spanish. Yeah I saw DOT com. Yeah it's a good site. Yeah like this guys so Yeah I mean I. I guess Monday I think was Monday was. UN International Day persons with disabilities Microsoft Gold. Another company said a bunch JP announcements but the big one for Microsoft. Was this new version of the APP. which is only IOS right now? I'm not really clear what the point of that is but eventually I'm sure it will come to Android but it helps This is something that my mother. My mother's legally blonde. She could actually really is this It does a bunch of different things but one of the things he does. Is You can point your phone at a piece of paper. And or read whatever's on it. If you get mail or you want to read the newspaper but it reached you got to point out that this was something Google showed it will i. Oh they had a wonderful movie about who was in this case. It was an illiterate I think she was Indian woman. Who gained literacy because she could just aim her phone at signs and everything? Read it out loud bomber. This is this is a little more than that because it does bar codes Yep It will recognize objects so it's not just reading right. It's it's more than that so this is very cool very nice. Yeah well done Microsoft. Actually we had a In studio a couple of blind users Last month who are on their way up to Talk to Microsoft about accessibility and them. Yeah yeah they were from a non governmental organization For Blind people and they were they were going to Google Apple Microsoft to not to criticize criticize it anyway because I asked him and he said yeah they're really paying attention to great work we just want to give them some input From a blind user and I also talked to a guy who is blind. Get a lot of blind visitors. Because of course we're audio audio first. So that they love our stuff Blind user who was a retail a guy at apple who'd been promoted to excessively at apple so I think all three companies are paying a lot of attention to accessibility which is really great. But this is what what a brave because wonder if I take an exception of some of the stuff they done or alarm around accessibility. Because I think sometimes it's just show you know and this is not show this is This is a great APP. So if you need this kind of thing it's wonderful you know they're doing this kind of thing. Finally Dot net core three dot one. Yep So we buried the lead today. This is the big story. Obviously it's hugh use the basic deal here. Is they recently released dot AC or three point. Oh but this version is. It's kind of like during the windows. life cycle thing This is the long-term support version. So they've added a couple of features made a couple of changes. But mostly it's about bug fixes and and reliability stability and it's going to be supported for three years so go this. I won't be the last release but you know of course next year. They're going to come out with dot net five which is going to be the version that finally combines the traditional dot net framework with the the new debt debt Christopher is is the successor to both I guess is the best way to say. I'd say curiosities lunch arrived because Mary Jo Foley. It's time for the XBOX and you could if you want just visit the company here get short. It looks short. I can hang on xbox time Paul Garad. What is here by the way so this week? well. Let's say let's go back to. It was March Microsoft announced that they were going to bring the Halo Halo Master chief collection to the PC and one of the cool things about that is if you already have it on console an xbox one you get you'll get it for free because that's sound Microsoft. Does everything now so you can play it on the PC as well They're releasing it in phases and so they're going to do the games sequentially in chronological order of the in game timeline. Not The the order. They were released so the first one was just released this week on a PC called Halo reach. It was actually probably the the fifth or sixth of the Games or whatever but but in the chronology of the Games it's the first one so fun to play the first Halo released because we played a lot of tech TV. And it really. It's fun to watch the progression progression that they've made yeah so actually in so the interesting thing for me is Actually Leo. You probably know. You'll know this I don't Don't give this way immediately. But the first time time to halo was ever shown off publicly by Bungie was at a apple event. Yeah it's GonNa be on the Mac. Yep Microsoft BOTMC. uh-huh he was Bungee was Apple Company. That's how they started. Yeah Yeah So. Halo was huge and Halo. The original Halo combat evolved was on the original original xbox and it was also it was also ported the Mac and the PC actually Halo two was ported to the PC for winds vista. In fact I called Halo two four Windows Vista Like a temporary. We're GONNA pretend we care about the PC again kind of timeframe type deal but now they're like really serious about it and so God this one has just come out on. Pc You can get it through steam as well as through the xbox store which is really kind of cool which is how I got it just to kind of check out that experience? If you're familiar. It was statements stimulants team but signed into xbox live it. You still get all the back and forth with your achievements and Game Progression so forth looks great..

"Right. I should log in and just see what happens because they say they're going to delete everything anyway. Now let's look at my now that I visited around. Let's see what blacked blocked trackers. It's all the same except the Google got incremented by four. There you go you. Twenty nine trackers but Using for thirty seconds thirty seconds. Yeah and here's exceptions and there's no Oh site I get you have to manually add these. I guess so. Look it has tracking it. That's too that's praiseworthy. That's nothing yeah. I agree it's better than nothing. I think my fear here is that we're getting a little ahead of ourselves and patting them on the back this because they're not they're already not doing the best job right and I feel like that maybe is the baseline here that you should be in that tier you should be fighting with Mozelle and brave well except that they also earn Ad Company. That's the real problem and that's why I honestly don't trust Google easier. Not because I don't trust Google but because they're an ad company and Mike suss nowhere. Nowhere near the scale of an AD company of Google. Maybe we'll it's all because of crit. I mean frankly by the way yeah yeah. It has a nice logo. I'm just saying I love really great. It kills the brave logo. It's much better than the brave. Brave loggers a lion. Yeah yeah that might literally be the only advantage. It has a little bit cleaner but it takes. Courage is all right well. I think we've really beat this up dead horses we do. Yeah that's our job and we do it well. The Amazon reinvent. They do this every year and every year they you know I. It's been a year since the last one they announced deep racer at that one which is a car to help you learn a reinforce reinforce learning and I just got it like a month ago. I haven't brought it in. I haven't done anything with now. They have a keyboard they're selling. It sounds so bad Should I I took it. Turns out robots don't have a good sense of tune sense of tune somehow. I did this in the wrong spot. Let me do it no. Let's not do encourage back back to back to safety back active break right Let's see her. No not that as anything wrong with good just fine. It's good browser to say might not be good enough to be excellent some of this artificial intelligence music. It's called so they had deep raised her last year this year. It's deep composer and a and well but if you look at all the stuff they announced it reinvent it's really all ai all's garage. Why you WANNA know now? Okay so the reason. I put Amazon reinvent in the show. Notes is because there are a lot of lessons we microsoft to customers and reporters can learn from it. And the reason I say that is what Microsoft's trying to do with ignite the show they just had in Orlando. They're trying to be reinvent. Oh so what happens. It reinvent every year Amazon invites sixty thousand customers succumb to Las Vegas and hear about all their products like announcements across the entire product. Line rate they want to position themselves as the leader in the cloud which they are but show how they're advancing much faster than the other two big companies Google Microsoft so Microsoft at night had thirty thousand users this year at that show. I Bet Microsoft goal is to try to get to sixty thousand. How many announcements were they? At writ- at Reim- reinvent. I said a gazillion. That might a little will be a little more precise please a three hour keno yesterday with Andy Jesse and they announced they announced product product update after product update after product. You need for this screen. You're but you need a little backing track a little Amazon's composer can you bring my Audio Jeff I guess it's off your let's see. Can you hear it. Oh too bad. It's broken broken. We didn't test audio before the show. Well I leave that as an exercise for the listener listen to it yet. A bad notes terrible herbal. But why so. Why did Amazon talk so much about? Ai Why even though they are the leader in infrastructure to service pass platform as a service in over or they're not the leader in the cloud in AI. "To monetize. You don't want exactly that out. But what if they added a password manager to Krige some features could could add things they can maybe let you defer updates if you pay for it as a home user e defer more like you can is a business you I can just guessing on those features because all I know is all I know from my contacts I should say I don't know this from Microsoft but all I know is office. Three sixty five is the crux of it. When Michael beefing up krige because of the problems they've had in the past with the embedded browser like is that is that yeah? I don't think so. No one percent yeah. There's no concern there okay. So that's over Zola's putting a password manager they just Updated aided that and get me one. So maybe that's maybe that's going to be considered the next thing that thing to you in a browser right Goes had one built into their browser forever. I mean for or not for our goal is always remember passwords but doesn't Internet explorer or don't doesn't edge do that he doesn't remember. Yeah no it's not secure right In fact Wi with Google's you can see it in clear. Text is if you so there and when asked they say well if somebody's log into your computer they can so I already have problems in the first place but it's I would call great password manager. It's not super it integrates with windows ten security if if you WANNA view passwords and Chrome that's you have to enter your pin or yeah you have to have a windows password if you don't yeah so that's that's okay. Yeah but I don't think they'll make it like you. You get a windows license. That doesn't make sense because people can get windows licenses when they leave right on me. Yeah yeah true. Version windows ever again. What if you could like get get windows system for Lennox running on home seriously.
Microsoft's most daring Surface ever might be unveiled this week
"We do have a lot to talk about obviously to more. You're here here for the surface of the Microsoft hardware of and not this not a surface event. It's a Microsoft hardware wording here obviously a lot of surface news coming along so I want to kind kind of stick to that and actually at the show I'll give a little review of my iphone eleven pro Max that I've here for about a week and a half now so it's a lot of pros and cons say that there's a lot of nothing but good news from US Review Sandra curious. I'm there's some there's a handful of things not all the sickness. That's making your negative. The sickness made me extremely you like it didn't prevent me from getting a flu supposedly Rowsley Apple Devices prevent illness and injury. You know what that's what I thought but only if I had the air pods any Apple Watch I would have been prevented all illnesses so tim. I'm Cook told me so Paul. What do you want to begin with. This event actually let me let me begin at the end because this is leaking all of the twitter's right now so so as I had speculated for actually many weeks in a row and windows weekly Microsoft is GonNa because I base this on the timing of the event. You may recall that in the spring. They suddenly started testing windows ten version twenty one. The Virgin is not coming until next year. That was very confusing. They've never done anything like that before. It's a Lotta time right yeah and and given that and the fact that such and Adela was coming to this event. I I've been speculating that maybe this'll be the time that they unveil what's going on. Software wise in that release because it must be the basis of this light. Os or whatever we're calling this thing that we've been talking about for a long time and now what has leaked is that Microsoft will announce a new version of windows ten wins ten acts that will ship late next year on new dual screen in folding screen devices does ten x ten ten. Well Yeah right right so this is the first this. Is this the first name. I guess official name change absorb trailer for Windows ten. No no no no so. This is just a new version so we have windows ten home. We have pro enterprise. We have been pro. workstations nations got it so ten. X is another skew. It's and it will only be provided on those devices. It's not something well. I should say I I actually don't know a lot about it right now so I should say I don't you know there's no way that someone with windows ten. homer pro is ever going to be able to update to this or upgrade or whatever it's not a you know. It's like a side hi thanks so it's just another skew in its very specifically for those kinds of devices and so we'll see what else you know. They'll talk about it. they'll show show off a prototype apparently some people upset of what Mary Jo Foley Centaurus and you know look we know Dell and Lynn Ovo have both talked about. I don't know if was falling deal screen devices or one of the one of both whatever those are the number one in three three P. C. makers in the world. Presumably everyone in the top five will announce such a device may be. We'll see one of those Lenovo last year was very or the subsisiary. Actually was very cagey when they said you know it's. GonNa be running windows but they didn't say which version obviously it's going to be this version so yeah that's exciting. I suspect I'm just again. I'm just guessing based on timing that twenty one that version of windows ten we've been testing forever must have the plumbing wing necessary to support those devices and that will actually see the the real world support for it in two thousand eight to which would be a minor upgrade that will ship at this time next year so so that's that's the big news it's kind of like their one more thing you know type announcement right because obviously the focus tomorrow is going to be on the stuff like here's the new stuff that we're. GonNa ship very soon for this holiday season the windows ten x stuff for next year time period but I think they're just prepping the user base really just for the future right so this this is coming windows those who support folding until screen devices. I find it very interesting considering d think they'll show some some sort of you know demo on a rendered device. I have no idea yeah I'm curious about that. I I yeah I'm curious. See I'm curious to see if usually at these events. You don't see you know deller. Lenovo already other company right so I don't know if they're going to either not. I don't know if we're actually going to see their devices in person or anything like that. I don't that I have no idea that demo is for those folding devices. I I know that I know that it's hot now because it's new but coote. Who is it marketed to WHO I remember. It's almost like when the note I came out right the Samsung note and everybody said the way too big for the regular consumer. WHO's this poor. Who needs the phone to be that big and in reality slowly? Every single phone became that Obagi now there's nothing unique about it in that sense but you know right now who sat foldable device for actually the that thing thing that you just mentioned is probably a good comparison because it well okay. I guess it doesn't actually replace another device. I suppose in some ways the died so for a lot of people a FAB type form factor means. They don't have to have a tablet and a phone right so they have this thing. That's kind of inbetween in a does both things well. You can watch movies and read. It's like a big enough screen. I think that this new device type folding a dual screen devices kind of fall into the same type of category where in in this case what you might be preventing yourself or not having to carry any Moore's laptop right that this thing will will be a phone or a small tablet form factor to begin with and it's easy to carry but when you need the bigger screen you can kind of open up. It's it's sort of the same value proposition gas as you know a folding smartphone right. It's when you need it. You know you get the bigger screen and so I'm I'm curious to see how Microsoft presented that I mean the surface team has proven itself to be very averse to leading edge technology right. They still don't support thunderbolt three for some reason so what what would make them jump on the bandwagon with this kind of thing they must have some pragmatic rationale for it. They don't tend to just do things to kind of nuts not so part of it is probably pressure from PC makers you know in the same way that Samsung and Weiwei and whatever must have gone to go and say hey guys. This is the new trend you've got support this android they did even though they don't today provide their own folding vice of any kind and they don't seem to be making one. Microsoft in this case is making one so very interesting because we'll say very. It's very interesting considering. This is something that we've been I berth for all that changes a lot doesn't and this was probably one of the first major topics we discuss when you and I started started doing podcasts courier was a foldable windows based device or Microsoft device that a lot of people were excited for in two thousand nine or two thousand and two thousand ten right when I think he mark thousand career exact timing yeah I mean we go back to it because it kind reminds me of this because we we had the scene discussion where who is marketed to US vice four and can't catch catch on. I'm not convinced that why and Samsung are going to have a la- major success with their foldable devices with their foldable yeah. Maybe it's something that happens over time I the the note was immediately successful in it triggered a a real change in the industry. Even apple eventually jumped on board. Obviously the the folding thing it's GonNa take a while but part of the reason is just the reliability issues right. You're seeing problems with their redesigned designed. Samsung Galaxy fold and so it's GonNa take a little a little take a little while. I do think that because. PC's are bigger and bulkier devices compared to phones that the reliability issues have a chance of not being a serious and there are some productivity arguments. You could make around in having a bigger screen at your disposal so we'll see. I mean some of it's going to be hokey. It may not you know the whole thing may not fly. I don't personally other than the whole yeah. It's cool the thing I mean I. I don't personally see a use case for it. So a lot of people said that about like we said the note. I remember remember when I when I think jokes holding like an ipad up to like I had one sent me by. At and T. to review and I loved it. I praise the device I I thought the more battery life and that thing remember Android at that point wasn't as refined as as it is now at all bit rot was way worse than it was today. These things were were the soft software wasn't as sophisticated as it was on the iphone at that time so I love the phone and I gave it a praising a great review view where the battery life was a necessity and other other manufacturers should catch onto this large display and

Kennedy left a party on Chappaquiddick island near Martha's vineyard with Mary Jo compact need twenty eight some time later Kennedy's car went off a bridge into the water Kennedy was able to escape but kept acne drowned and tweet is that what happened that's that's what the AP images is putting forth as for example brit Hume I don't want to steal somebody's thing but as brit Hume says it's been fifty years in the media is still covering for him and that's so true I mean so fifty years ago a car went off a bridge Ted Kennedy was able to escape and Mary Jo drowned what's their tweed gonna be and what what's the anniversary of the OJ murder fifty years later as a P. images gonna say twenty and twenty forty four so in twenty forty four AP images tweets out fifty years ago Nicole brown Simpson went for dinner and when she came home she passed away yeah they don't do anything for the twenty fifth this year to that but a buddy I mean can you imagine through this prism how we look at history right in nineteen sixty three on this day right on F. Kennedy was in Dallas and the one for any trouble or something like yeah you gotta be joking me well for that one we have laning reading so she went down there and a little investigative work it will always get back to that live music thank you where is allegedly shot speaking of conspiracy thank you did you read any of the comments on this AP images one guy has a couple good ones Jeff's diary rights you forgot the part where he just went home and left her to drown because he was drunk and didn't want the police to find out hash tag smooth criminal there is no that's again the last line Kennedy was able to escape but compact me drown that's everything in the toward that's the mud that's the thing she was again no one knows for sure whether you know was she passed out in the back did she hit her head there was claw marks on the top of the car and she wasn't there where the these last air pocket what a better hair and was there for her mouth was there so she was apparently struggling until the end but what we know is that he did not he he left her he laughter there in then they concocted a story to try and cover it up and yet the A. P. puts our Kelly was able to escape but compactly you like they both were swimming against the tide waffles as what the AP would have you believe all my god they got up rushing waters everyone is reaching Kennedy was able to make it back but she unfortunately wasn't that's not what happened what else you got any other good comments on Jenner suitable for air doing the best you can going on I got the Jamie three stars raise the Kennedys and cleanse never tried and convicted of crimes because of their names and money Hey it's just did I mean this is the epitome of like fake news right like you are covering for somebody when we all know now well we don't know the exact details of what happened we know one enough of the details of what happened Vegas or bust thirty five rights Kennedy X. gave the Karen got out of the water and left Mary Jo compact need to drown he went home and went to bed telling know until the next day the media and Democrats were complicit in helping with the cover up apparently at a P. images is still complicit that's it exactly again the way there right Kennedy's car when off a bridge into the water R. A. P. any having the vehicle first of all let's start there Kennedy was able to escape compactly drowned it's on but that's unbelievable so everything that people are saying about the today show one the today show is just having fun like there they don't believe in the conspiracy theory but they're gonna do a piece on it because that's out there I just in the same way you can do a piece on flat earth is if you want find doesn't bother me in the least any conspiracy theory of thing to DO leprechauns exist coming up at nine great I've added unicorns big for its center this one this one you know what you're putting down is inaccurate or ridiculously misleading in you tweeted out anyway because old habits Die Hard apparently fifty years ago you were covered for the guy and now you're covering for the guy again you want to the opposite of this waffles would be and I I'd ask you which one is more accurate fifty years ago today senator Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo compactly now that would be a little strong right like he didn't Klay Mara he also didn't intentionally set out to we have herd died that night well who knows the circumstances in which they were both in the car was there was just the two of them in the car whether he did go back or didn't go back no one ever you'll never know but that that is as true statement as their statement it's actually probably more true I mean because there's no doubt that because of his action she was dead whether or not he could have gotten around in there and saved her it certainly seems likely he caught of but I don't know if he drove down a second time any it's as had that he doesn't know who you know none of us will ever know but we know we didn't and we know we didn't get a ride in a car in there's no reason that he shouldn't have been able to get her out of the car there's no reason in so Kennedy was able to escape but compact me drowned that's just the most unbelievable thing I've seen in some time take it for what it's worth by the way not the cross promote but if you haven't heard I always podcast yet on Chappaquiddick did two years later you should and when you listen to what you'll find out just how ridiculous that tweet is from eight PM edges out Regis I don't know why they haven't pulled that yet or issued a correction but they
How to Become Successful in Sales
"Today. I've got another clip from my ninety minute long conversation with Dana Leeman from Wiley in episode thirty seven of the sales success stories podcast here. She is again talking about how to become successful in sales. I would I tell them to be patient to be extremely hungry. And really a big win that I think a lot of people forget about Scott is to be humble, and to really look at other people not just where they work, but other people that they know whether it's an assails job or something else about how they gained their success and to talk to those people and walk right up to them. That was one of the things I did early on when I started Wiley is I found out who were the leaders and the drivers of sales success in our company and I walked right up to them. And I just said and one of them is Mary Jo maxi. She's absolutely amazing. She's been with Wiley a long time. I said I wanna be around you. I wanna know what you do. And I wanna know how you do it. And she was kind enough for many occasions that we've had great conversations and were personal friends to this day but to seat those people out, even if it's uncomfortable for you,

Marking only you're under said of the phone lines are open eight, five five three two three four DC as you take a closer look at the events that happened, yesterday And Columbus Ohio after a committee of twenty some people gathered, for, a, twelve, plus, hours, to, debate. What it was they were going to do with one urban Meyer We went through, some of the the summary findings. Which are kind of eye opening given the fact that urban Meyer only received a three-game suspension at least in my eyes And When you're talking about high, profile sports, investigations apparently there's one person to call that would be Mary Jo White Mary Jo White said interesting Case in the sense that credentials, are They're just. They're impeccable she's worked for. The government she's got a lot, agree she's been. Around for a very very long time. She's worked for the National Football League I headed up the internal investigation with regard to. Bountygate was involved with Jerry Richardson investigation most recently by the NFL also added involvement with the Ezekiel Elliott domestic, violence investigation that the NFL put on but her reputation to a, great extent with regard to not credentials but some of the things she's done in these investigations I think come into question And we'll get to. That it just a second Clue. The NFL wanted somebody To support its conclusion Given. What was going on and I, think Ohio states president Michael Drake Put it succinctly yesterday? We kept asking ourselves why the hell these people in their eating pizza they've been in there for twelve hours what the hell can they be? Talking about that can't sound good, at all Well the. President of the university Michael. Drake spoke to that gave us an idea of what was going on and what they were trying to accomplish for nearly half day in those meetings straight we wanted to be. Fair we wanted to be equitable we wanted. To be just we wanted to be appropriate and we, worked to refine our decisions and our actions to be able to do the best that we could to achieve those goals is very difficult and, complicated situation many. Things to. Consider over a, long, period of time and the reason that. It took ten hours of this is to. Try to make sure that we were being thoughtful and considerate in, every case five full, inconsideration that's important listen. I mean we here's what we have to think about we got, to think about our football, program our national standing one of the great, coaches in college football history given urban Meyer's record? Which is ridiculously good he's one hundred. Seventy seven and thirty one lifetime in college football he's seventy three and eight At columbus At the shoe or not at, the shoe but Costa the. Victim there, I mean that's got to think about. Those things don't you think so So I think, Ohio State not only wanted to hire investigator that was going to. Legitimize whatever decision university wanted to make whether it was keeping or firing Meyer but also over looking crucial evidence that was listed in the report we told you earlier that, Meyer talk. To a staff member when all hell broke loose about changing the settings. On his phone that would allow him to delete text messages text. Messages I should say that, were on his phone from a, year or longer and apparently those settings had in fact been changed on. Meyer's. Phone and, as you might imagine no texts older than a year we're found which Mary Jo White said was concerning to the investigative team really I mean not now you're on a fact-finding. Mission and all of a sudden I would? I would, look at that and go seems like obstruction of me kind of covering things up there what the hell are, you coming up for I. Mean what, is it that you don't want us. To know urban Meyer And I'm thinking to. Myself all. Right What about. Urban Meyer And what, about buried your. Wife Mary Jo. White by the way In her findings, when she addressed. The media yesterday Talked about what, they. Had found how they came to this conclusion, etc and kind of stepped up if you will for urban Meyer and Gene Smith athletic director with the two that. Will be serving suspensions. Here instead all right so it's my feeling that these two guys have learned something here and they really respect women here's Mary Jo White take a listen to this. Coach Meyer impressed us with his sincere commitment to the respect for women core value that he espouses and tries to instill, and. His players we believe that AD Smith shares, that strong commitment really Really When urban Meyer later that press conference was asked specifically about Courtney Smith The abused by his assistant coach here's Myers answer what message do you have for Courtney Smith Well I message for, everyone involved in. This I'm sorry that we're in the situation And Sorry we're in the situation just sorry where this. Situation damn and I'm gonna have to serve three. Games I'm. Embarrassed I've lost six weeks a pay Wouldn't even mention her name Courtney Smith a woman by the way that both, urban Meyer and his wife counseled when she was married to. Jack Smith is assistant coach there's a personal relationship there when asked what he, would say to Courtney Smith he wouldn't even acknowledge her. Or say his her name, so when Mary Jo White the investigator lead, investigator stands, up and says you know we believe that urban has great respect for. Women's and, women's core values I'm like really I'm just sorry we're in this situation this has been a real pain. In my, butt I. Think that gets lost in here we're so damn worried about wins and? Football and wins what. Games urban, myths, in what is he. Going to be back then I think we forget I mean this wasn't just? About de wise and Using six hundred dollars of your money apparently. You tried, to expense it back to the program Taking high school coaches out strip joints, entering rehab for diction taking nude pictures of yourself at the facility and at the. White House having sex toys sent to the athletic facility Domestic violence multiple beatings of your wife We forget, about all that don't we. I mean we're not talking about that we're talking about the suspension and by the way I think I think the more I thought about it last night we were reacting to, it yesterday on the show I think it's despicable Listen I got no I got no. Dog in this fight I don't care if a state wants twelve games or zero game sex year doesn't mean a. Damn thing to me But in the larger Issue here in the in the bigger, frame of all this what's getting lost is the. Fact that urban Meyer Was considered one of the great coaches in college football and given all. This money and responsibility and everybody wants to Pat him, on the back and tell, them how great he is he also has that responsibility to not only those kids but. That staff that school it's reputation not to mention when he knew that his assistant coach was beating his. Wife he did little to nothing little to nothing It's despicable to me That a guy that, power in that position Is ultimately led off with a slap on the hand And when asked about Courtney Smith, he just well I would say to all, of us this is just a an unfortunate situation really that's it Yeah it's a pain, in. My butt You know I I can't wait. To this media session is over she I can't believe that I accepted this three game. Suspension because you know what it's about it's about, urban Meyer and it's about coaching? Football, and it's not about Courtney Smith And for that matter I think urban Meyer has missed the point this. Whole thing of I gave him the benefit of, the doubt I saw red flags But I didn't ask enough questions I it's your responsibility that's. The position you're in I said yesterday To whom much is given, much? Is expected right I think urban Meyer led us down and I think you could easily make a coherent argument that he deserved. To be fired not just spend, it, three, games, eight, five, five, three two. Three four NBC I will take a quick break when. We come back the NC double a. apparently has decided to sneak in a new major rule with regard to college basketball leave you that by the way to do that on a major news dump day yesterday when all that stuff's going, on at Columbus we'll take a quick break and come back and get to that.

Xbox Adaptive Controller Will Come With Special Packaging
"So now when there's nothing, you can really see the detail into nothing from miles away. I should give it a second chance. You know what? It's just. It's just hit had such promise when it came out. I'm sorry, I married you Leo short for no man's sky. I think. It's time to move on maybe. Game in the world. Okay. Want to give it a see anything to come back and five years and find out that Mary Jo's gotten addicted to a video game. And she never told anybody. Minecraft? Yeah. The reason she never leaves her apartment. She's gathering crystals or something or whatever. Guys know. What the real problem with it was, even though there were like all these worlds, they were all fundamentally the same similar. They were, oh, this film way about the planet, the towns of Pennsylvania are like that lower McCovey valley. For eighty million light years by the way. But yes. It is fair to say that the differences between lower and upper Makanji are or minor at best? Yeah. Yeah, even the packaging of Microsoft's XBox adaptive controllers accessible. Yeah, I thought this was kind of cool. So you know the the XBox adaptive control is coming up in September. You can pre-order now for Microsoft, it's I think it's ninety nine ninety nine. It's designed for people with physical disabilities so that they can play video games. They actually designed the packaging to be as successful as the product itself, if you will. So in other words, someone who might need this thing could actually open the box and not kill themselves because there's all these twits ties and plastic hard bits and I don't remember the exact phrase that he is, but there's literally a term in this industry where these people often have to turn to the teeth to get through some kind of a hard packed package. You know that you can never rip these things out but or whatever, and it's awful, you know? So this thing kind of unfolds like a unfolds, I think maybe is the right word, it it, it you kind of. It's almost like you pull a string in a thick just gonna plumps open in front of you or whatever, but it looks really cool like the way they did it, it's nice. Mary Jo. Sorry. We get out of the way out of the way. So now next most exciting topic of the day Berliner. Yeah, I'm not going to tell you anything fun about Berlin, but I did visit the Microsoft well should say one of two Microsoft offices. Last time I was here visited the other one this, the development office that they have that used to be the home of Wunderlist it's behind. Why did I even try to say the name out Santa plots? I think that we're the, the TV tower is it's over in that area. Microsoft has two floors of a building that thing. So Marcus ashes, the guy we both know and brand does really well from well worked at Microsoft and Seattle, and was he actually was on the Cortana team for several years. It was looking to do something new. I can't imagine why. And kind of randomly someone said, hey, would you ever consider moving to Berlin. And this is a sorry. You got to explain this. I know that picture what is going DDR museum, which is east Germany, right, right. So the DDR museum is gives you a peek into what life was like an east Germany during the the well, the Berlin Wall period or whatever. So there's a lot of really cool stuff in there. But one of the coolest things is they have various rooms from typical apartments and it's like, you know, a kitchen bet kids bedroom or whatever. And so this is a like a teenager's bedroom or women are bedroom of some kind in is actually kind of a little AR thing going on with a mirror and what you can do. You pull a an outfit off of the rack. You can see there in the left and it uses a camera to kind of let you see what you would look like wearing that outfit walked in. And yeah, yeah. So there was some girls in there trying on this outfit, and I walked in behind them and I was like, I'm taking a picture of this. The reason my hands look like that is because I'm using my the camera on my phone and it doesn't show aren't you can't see..
