"Place anyway. This society was granted charter by the provincial government in may and by the end of the summer the foundation numbered about twelve hundred fifty members in canada in the united states in addition to a core of several dozen followers who actually resided at the colonies headquarters now. Most of them members had money and women married to men with money were urged to take their money and leave their husbands. And come join the commune. But if you couldn't shake the husband. I guess he can come to. Among the faithful were alfred barley a businessman and a scholar and his wife who was a london schoolteacher for almost thirty years and these were reportedly very nice people though gullible and they decided to give up everything that they had their whole life to follow brother twelve and within weeks they had imported all of their businesses their their monies and passes to montreal and surrendered all his earthly goods to brother. Twelve the group's believes were largely based on the teachings of the cs officle society and much of the core beliefs of brother twelve group. Were just making sure that you gave him money. Okay okay well. This is a good business model. Yeah oh yeah especially when your souls fate depends on how much you believe in him and give him your money right so in. Your faith is equated to how much you give by. How much you right. Okay yeah yeah. It's important to know. Many wealthy and socially prominent individuals joined the foundation. The aquarian foundation grew at a rapid pace and brother. Twelve manner attracted very powerful men and women from all over north america. Mary connelly a wealthy socialite from north carolina was very entrenched with brother twelve and her first donation to the foundation was twenty five thousand dollar check wool adjusted for inflation. That's about three hundred. Seventy eight thousand dollars. That's a good day's work yeah. Brother twelve was also very active in politics interesting. He argued that the world was moving rapidly toward a global dictatorship though he himself acted very dictator and he warned that a network of interlocking monopolies would concentrate power in the hands of a few individuals as he was trying to garner as much money and power as he could so well it was okay if he was the guy right but his he was big on creating a fear of other people doing the things that he was doing. Joe in fact in january nineteen twenty eight. He traveled to dc to solicit support for a third party in the united states. Aligning himself with protestant groups the klu klux klan and disenchanted political elements that were opposed to presidential candidates. Herbert clark hoover and alfred emmanuel smith so these people felt like they didn't have a home in politics per se will start up our own rights. Yeah that's weird. I just. I was just watching. A documentary about prohibition talked about al smith in was running on the wet platform. Screw prohibition and yet he still lost. It's hard to believe well one of the big problems that people had including those who were supporting a third party with brother twelve was that al smith was a roman catholic right right and so they wanted to maintain a certain religious power hold so anyway at cedar by the c. Which is the name of the little colony that they built with their cult. Money brother twelve lived with elma wilson who he presented as his wife though they were never legally married in july of nineteen twenty eight. He initiated an affair with myrtle. Bombed gardner the wife of a new york physician and claimed that they were the reincarnation of egyptian gods of cyrus and isis and that their child would become a world teacher in one thousand nine. Seventy five thousand nine hundred seventy five. So once. he decided he was going to take on a mistress. He started changing his teachings to accommodate his new lifestyle and very very henry the eight of him. It's quite so the infidelity that that was going on really kind of irked a lot of the people in the colony and then his mistress wasn't able to carry a child to term so obviously the thing that he said he was doing. This for wasn't happening so he was accused in october by the foundations governors of misappropriating money. Yeah i know shocking. Right so twenty. Five thousand dollar contribution from italy had gone missing and the charge was dismissed the following month when she testified in court that the money was actually a gift so there had been some legal action taken but then she changed her mind for some reason and in a subsequent case in which a worker at the colony brought suit for unpaid wages. Brother twelve was alleged to have used quote his occult powers to disable his opponents causing people to faint in court and the plaintiffs lawyer forgot his argument. He was victorious in his legal battles and the failure of his political plans and his soul mates inability to produce a child led widespread problems amongst his followers. Imagine well at least those who still fought for themselves right hard to do. He declared that his brother's center. His city of refuge would be where the select few that he invited to live. There would survive the oncoming collapse of the social order and he took a new lady companion who had arrived at the colony. Not long before. So he's just kind of moving his way through the ladies that are showing up and add the colony and that seems to be a pattern with cult leaders. Does it's weird almost like. They're taking advantage of young naive people. The to participated in an occult marriage and legally changed their names to a meal. Divall dez and zora. Dave all dez. Yeah let's creative anyway. So all the members of this group paid monthly membership fees as you can imagine and those that moved to the colony were often required to hand over everything that they had on earth to brother twelve and as time passed brother. Twelve became increasingly paranoid. And dictate to'real so. He had fortified the island kingdom that he'd created and reportedly accumulated a fortune in gold so he devised a method with his new lady who had now started calling herself. Madame zee and that would allow him to store and transport this gold easily so stop his enemies from stealing it. Obviously they wanted to make sure that didn't happen. They would fill mason jars with gold eagle coins and then seal them up and put them in wooden boxes with bro panels and then they would move those boxes onto his tugboat in the middle of the night transporting his treasure and burying it in different locations around the islands. So he's got all this gold. He feels like he starting to lose his power. He started arming groups of his followers and fortified the colony and was prone to irrational rages. So he would freak out insists. That people weren't doing the things that they needed to be doing. insists that people weren't following his orders the way that they should be in that that their souls were in danger and all that business and his mistress was in charge of making sure that everyone in the colony was working and apparently it was grueling. Work and without breaks. The tasks were considered tests of their fitness and their spirituality. Okay so if you didn't work as hard as they thought you should be working to their gain then..

"For every person who just had an Ellen story and that he was gonna have to just do it. This for nobody that I don't think he realized would be curious to know if he paid $5 because he had hundreds of people sharing on Twitter. There Alan stories and they tended to be from Belden and valet's and waiters and and then other people corroborating those stories separately on the thread where they like. Well, I once heard a story and then that person was like that's about me. Let me tell you the story I went on and on and on. So then Buzzfeed. This had a story that came out where they talked to one current Alan employee. And 10 former And they all well, I think we have audio for this. We can just let them explain it this morning. The Alinta generous show is under new scrutiny, a source close to the production conforming to NBC News. Mortar media has launched an internal probe into the award winning daytime Siri's amid reports alleging a toxic work environment. The source also says the show's host Ellen DeGeneres, Is not part of the investigation, adding, It's not about her at all. According to Variety. Executives from Tele Pictures, which produces the show, and Warner Brothers Television, which distributes it sent a memo to staffers last week telling them 1/3 party firm will be talking to current and former employees. NBC News has not seen the memo. The investigation comes on the heels of a recent report by Buzzfeed News, in which one current employees and 10 former staffers alleged culture of racism, fear and intimidation. They blamed senior managers on this show for allowing the behavior the biggest common thread that everyone Told me is that what goes on behind the scenes is a far cry from what the show represents. In there be kind messaging and with the show And what Ellen, too generous herself. Profits off. Listen to one another and be kind one another. Okay, so I mean, like you again, and I was so curious this morning watching the morning news because none of the morning news programs had covered Elvis Presley's grandson taking his life for the Johnny Depp thing, and I would be I was curious to see how are they going to cover? You know, Will they cover this Ellen? They did story and, yeah, they all did have a story about I think we have one more thing from the Today show. The allegations include Act staffer saying they were fired from the show for taking time off for medical leave or Bary. Meet one former African American employees also telling Buzzfeed she was subject to multiple racist comments and microaggressions during her time at Ellen, including at a work party. She was approached by a male senior writer on DH. He made a comment to her along the lines of Oh, I don't know your name. I only know the names of the white people who work here. In a joint statement to Buzzfeed news earlier this month, executive producers Mary Connelly and the last owner and Ed Glavin said they take the allegations very seriously. Adding. It's not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Helen has set for us. We realized as many in the world are learning that we need to do better are committed to do better, and we will do better. Okay, we'll just say this. It's good when they get 1/3 party, okay, that that means they're taking it seriously. And DC didn't get 1/3 party. They just investigated themselves with America's Got talent is that we're Yang adding the Matt Lauer perhaps, but it's interesting to me that the producers air falling on the sword and saying We have to do better. This has nothing to do with Elin at all The Hollywood speak It has everything to do with Ellen. Because Alan Hasn't issued One. Statement. And to me that says he there knows and doesn't care. Or she's allowed this. It doesn't matter because it comes from her because the other part of the story is that there have been So many people. Dakota Johnson share the gal from the batch that they have been at least 10 Hollywood people that have been gets on her shows that, she said it's so uncomfortable to be against center show. He makes things so difficult. Because she's Mmm. Nice and her name is on..
