"75% of our 297.93, Texas, That's more like it. Destruction. Residential mortgage loan originator Mary Ellen Ranieri is my guest. We've been talking about her mom, You've probably seen her Facebook page baking with Lucy and Mary on. Let me ask you this, did you? It seemed to me that your mom enjoyed doing the segments as much as we enjoyed watching them. My God. She loved it. She talked about it. 20. It gave my mother such joy and such like she was the Phoenix. You know, after my dad died, she was so sad. And this just gave her a chance to share and be a contributing member of society. She loved everybody. She read the cards over and over again. X played them on doors. She just loved it so much and just never thought of thing of not sharing a recipe. She loved it. So I mean, I you know, and I felt every bit of what you describe is there's moments and and it takes a very special daughter to be able to say to their mother. It's okay. You can go. It's okay because we love them, and we want to hold on to them. So how do we keep this Facebook? I mean, how do we keep How do we keep losing with us through her Facebook and a recipes and all the joy she well, I think that's that's a good question. You know, I think I run that through my mind. And You know, it's too soon. It's probably too soon it is, but, you know, I mean, I think everybody out there Has that has watched has a little piece of Lucy. Now from Don't burn the garlic, too. Don't forget stirred the star to, um if you don't and she told and it was so funny, I think it was Jenna Bush. Ago, she said. Now you must leave those eggs up, you know and wasn't get to room temperature, So that's one way and I think, Secondly, I'm going to keep up with her page now. I said yesterday. I'm not. We see I could never be Lucy. I could never walk in my mother's footsteps. And feel them, But I will try to just Keep helping people and you know it was, it would be like I mean, this person who's big, but they're one of Hey, you guys, If you want to bake some cookies, maybe we'll do it together or something. You know? I mean, I have to think it through. And then, of course. Mom and I Did the cookbook and we fought and argued for months about what to put in. It had not Meghan and then she and we must have argued for two weeks over one sauce recipe. Um It was so funny and then after we'd argue, would say, Let's go bake some biscotti. So we have a cookbook, and it's coming on a truck from Nebraska and we're going to do what Lucy set up to do, and people are going to be able to purchase her cookbook. It's It's just Beautiful When I know when I open it, I'll start to cry all over again with Pictures and stories about her and all are funny ways and sayings. And oh my God during sends all her recipes. It's like her life she ever ever since I was little girl, so fascinated by this peace boxes, these red old boxes of recipes Things and her hand tight notes. And I like this, and and when I It's like gold to me, and now they're starting to crumble. So at least I've preserved in honor of her. We've preserved for her birthday, 1922. Mm. 222 Recipes. Oh, my goodness. Well, we can't wait and you're gonna have to let us know you're gonna have to come back when the wind it went to the book's arrived, you know? Do you have a date? They are coming tomorrow. And, of course, we were gonna finish this week out. And we're going to be live streaming her service on Friday because we know that people love her. And they obviously we're not gonna Have a large group. It's just not right this time. It's just not right. And we're gonna live stream it level clock on baking with Lucy page and make this all celebrate. She did, and it was unexpected, but she had tested positive for covered. She did, and she unauthentic was I'm going to take you, Um From like less. I'm gonna say last Sunday or Saturday, she said. You know, my back hurts and I feel like a little. You know what? My mom had osteoarthritis? I don't think anybody Knew as much you know she had and then Sunday she had just a little temperature, and I said, Are you baking today? And she said I think I am And I said, I don't think he should. I said, I want you to go upstairs and go to bed, and she did, and she got up Sunday night and felt fine. And then Monday, the temperature came back. So we took her to the doctor. And they did tester for coded. And then, um, the rest of the week was, you know, it was kind of up and down. There wasn't anything really remarkable. About her help other than this little temperature, But we kept her confined. And we all you know, mast up and suited up because we didn't know at that point, Okay? And she did stay upstairs and men. Um Come Friday morning. I knew there was something wrong and she did eat her new normal meal. And put on her favorite sweater, and she went to the hospital. That was it. Mm. Saturday morning. They called us and they said, um she was doing much better. They had found infection in her lungs. And then I think that I don't think at that point we knew she was positive. But we kind of suspected it, you know, and And then late Saturday night, you know, you get that fateful call a 10, 30 or whatever time they called and, um they let me they told me to come up, so I went up. I probably look like a creature from outer space I had on two masks. And the shield. And then I was all they bundle you all up. You know where you're allowed to see anybody, and, um Went in, and she had on like a service, CPAP machine and It wasn't you know, and it wasn't a good deal, and I just want to leave it with that. But I did get to tell her That I loved her on. I'd love her more than I even thought I loved her. Oh, Dan. Um, I also did tell her that I said, You know, I don't want you to leave me. "Is that ideal kind of work to do remotely? Even my own experience with self isolation, as he realized that I've been doing exactly that for a number of years so when you talk to Coders, how many of them preferred this work method? HOW POPULAR HAS IT become? Well. It's very popular, and that's because coders love working from home, the vast majority of coders. If they were given the choice, they would say yes. I would work from home all the time. And the reason why is because it just gives them a quiet and a focus and a lack of interruptions from people sort of tapping them on the shoulder in the cubicle. If you were to say to them. Hey, guys, everyone! Where would you prefer to work? They would all prefer to work from home. One Tech Company, that is a big advocate for remote work is base camp. They've been around for twenty years and they've been remote from the start. Even before it became popular, their staff work from home around the world. Let's listen to David. Haina Myer Hamson? He co-founded base camp with Jason Freed. He's also the creator of Ruby on rails. Actually for the first six months after I started working with Jason. We. Emailed an IM. We didn't even talk on the phone, so took six months I think before we had our first phone call and it took over year until we met each other in person so for very long time, this was not conventional wisdom, so we got access to this huge talent pool of people who've realized that they don't want. Live in San Francisco. They don't want to live in New York. They don't want WanNa. Live in Seattle. They don't live in any of these big tech hubs yet. The really proficient qualified people so. The fact that base Kim allowed them to do. This was a huge factor in both are hiring strategy and our retention strategy in two thousand twelve I had a series of conversations with other entrepreneurs. were, I would ask them about the work practice in and we talk about remote, and they would just give me these trite defenses for why remote can work. Oh, you can't do corporation. The magic only happens around the whiteboard and I thought like what people still think like this. Is that possible? The whiteboard is basically nonexistent base camp. The number one tool we have is writing acing cronies by yourself writing and you posted and you let time pass by good collaboration happens when. Creative people get time and space to do deep thinking. And they compiled deep thinking into deep writing, and the deep writing consists not of one chat line at the time, but a fully composed census form paragraphs the form complete arguments, and then you consider those arguments. With the advantage and calm of time, ninety percent is the considered writing that five percent chat, and then maybe five percent I. Don't know zoom or Tubal or some other video connection share my screen kind of collaboration. So Clive David is making some super interesting point here so I never would have thought of. Are there other ways of working that coders were using that? Make remote work success. Yea Absolutely. They arranged times when they know that they're going to be in contact. Maybe in face to face contact, so there was definitely companies I spoke to that said okay. We know our developers do their best work when they're not here. But we want them to be here some of the time you know. We want to have some face to face meetings. They still believe in that, and so they would have these schedules that were like you know from Tuesday and Thursday one zero five PM. We need everyone to be in the office. Just we can have some time to talk the rest of the time. Go wherever. Wherever you want, you can work in the office if you want to. You can work wherever you want. It could be you know at starbucks could be at home, so this sort of interesting lattice of new arrangements is is one thing that works really well another thing that I. think works really well as figuring out. What's sort of mode of chat or communication that everyone likes. Likes most in in David's case. He likes and his team likes long-form email conversations and I've definitely talk to people that like that, but other ones. They actually really liked slack, or they really liked good old fashioned IRC right like you know green text on a black background, but they worked out what they're. Co presence was because there's there's this phenomenon that sort of psychologists who talk. Talk, about online communication describe as ambient awareness, which is the the ability to know what other people are sort of thinking about doing when you're not physically there with them you know and there's a lot of technologies that allow us to do that and the best remote teams think carefully about what their ambient awareness method is, and they lock in on it and they use it.

"Branding iron click in our ticket. This is Texas home improvement with Jim Dodd. Welcome back. This portion of Texas on prune is made by flood frame. You know, if you've been worried about flooding had let's face it. With all the rains we're looking at right now. That can happen. Flood frame is a product you need to be looking at to protect your home. It's a barrier that goes up around the home. And it literally keeps the water from going in on and I'll talk about it a little bit later, but flood frame is really a great, unique product. Gotta home proven questions 713 2125874 or 866937 0003 I was talking with Jerry and Tom Ball and Jerry. How many square foot is this building? It's your heating about 2300 and what size, you know? 3.5. No, you're not oversized them. It ought to be dehumidifier. Just fine. So let's get a regular humid a stat. Check it that way first. Ah, because let me ask you. Are you feeling clammy in the house? I mean, are you feeling uncomfortable? No, it's the gallery's what it is, but it's you walk in. And if you open the door right now, you from outside, you feel cold. Is very comfortable on the inside. Okay? I'm thinking that just those like I said, those things they're notorious for being even 15. Degrees off. I'm thinking that's what this is going to end up being. But let's use a regular humanist at to check it first, and then we'll go from there. All right. Sounds great. OK, thanks. Thank you back. Bye. And again 713 to 125874 or 8669370003 That's the weird talk with Richard. How are you today? I'm doing wonderful. Good. Hey, I am a watery question. Have you help me or not? I'm experiencing a lot of water bills, and I talked to the city and they're saying nothing's wrong my water meter and what I was wondering effect Impeller in there. If it's in there for a long time, and it starts where no streams doesn't think starts spinning faster. No. Yeah, yeah. No, I know exactly what you're talking about. And I know that's that's really not the case. Ah, Big waterwheel. Are we talking about 50 bucks? No, that's going. You've got a leak somewhere. I'm pretty good at that stuff. I know I used a lot of morning last month because they've got a pool. But, you know, but rather ridiculous. Yeah. Okay. Is there any way to measure that compared to the mirror without buying one of those leaders? Job. Well, yeah, you, Khun, You can set up and do Ah, somewhere. You measure the water that's coming out. They got they even got meters that you can just hook up in a line. Teo follow and measure it, But you know that's that's going to cost money. I mean, the only the only thing I can think of his would be to measure gets like 100 gallon tank. You know exactly where the 100 Mary Allen Marquis is And fill it with a garden hose with everything else off. Yeah, well, that too Well, I guess that's why we were check it. Yes. Okay. Young man. Appreciate simple. You take care, Richard. Like you. Yeah, the old style meters like that. They've been around forever. Ah! Yeah, they really don't go out of kilter too often. I mean, I'm not saying it can't happen, but it's pretty darn rare that that you'll get one of those that are off. Got a homeroom question. 713 to 125874 That's 713 to 125874 or 866937 0003 and I'll see what I can do to help you out here on Texas home prove it. And a question come in from Damon and spring And he says, Sir, this is my first purchase. Tohave a new home built. Is there anything I should keep a close eye on while they're building it? The only reason why I'm asking because the design center for upgrades is not the best show you all the cheapest of the cheap and the next level is going to cost you. Thanks, Damon. David, I'm gonna tell you up front. All builders are that way They're going to quote you. This is the level that you can buy at, and usually it's going to be the cheapest of the cheap. And if you want the upgrades, they charge me extra because they gotta pay extra Fort. The unfortunate thing is a lot of times they charge AA lot of extra when it's not a lot of extra cost to get something better. And I've never understood that. But they do do it. Faras keeping an eye on stuff. You know you're gonna have your regular city inspections, but all they're checking is a bare bones minimum. So what you're gonna want to do is just be watching for the stuff above a beyond that hurricane strapped the way the plumbing is put in the way the electric wires run, Make sure everything is sealed up insulation wise. Those are the things that you could go by and look at or.

"Him to me God. I can't even imagine but a lot. A lot of firefighters paramedics do end up with cancer and they pick. It is because of the stress of it all the PTSD and all that kind of stuff, but she never wants any like she doesn't. Talk about that. It's okay I'll deal with it whatever, but this is. This is rocked her. This is scared her. And Man, when you're looking at the you know the person that you love and listen her and I both have been through the ringer with people you know like a lot of this failed a lot of problems. A lot of we both have had a a abusive spouses, and so for us finding each other and I mean we've never even had argument. Just you know we're getting along so great indicate that you know whoever you believe in or don't believe in the God would take her away from for me off from each other at this early age. It's just it's. It's. It's hard to understand. That's love. You gotta deal with I. There's something also important that from what I've read. If people and I've dealt with it in my family, cancer and stuff is as much as you want to secure all the legal things, and it sounds like that's what Mary Allen is trying to do. That's all she wants. She wants to make sure I'm okay. I'll keep saying that's good, but that only adds to the stress, and it doesn't add to the whole part, and there's something important. You guys also need to plan a trip. Zero that probably took a trip last weekend. Yeah, and another one plan another one you know how important it is in your brain when you're anticipating a vacation and that mode gets their plan another one six months from now say hey. We're also going to go here and have that in her brain that that you have something to look forward to. That's also very important. We don't. We don't know what's going to happen after the scope. We don't know the. Chemo right away. When it all is and so Yeah, it's super super scary. This is more difficult to keep a heat much the funny face on keep McLeod face on than it has been with things. Pass I. Think just because you know. It's like she so undeserving of anything bad. You know and and I WANNA make sure. I can do everything, but I can do but I don't know what to do. That's the pro. I can't fix it. I can't solve it I. Don't know what to do, other than try to make her laugh and. She kind of stopped me yesterday. Like okay listen. This is serious, you know. You don't have to Giggle me up I. You know I'm scared. So, anyway all right so there we go, so if you wonder why I'm a little bit weird I'm dealing with that on one side of my head and I'm GonNa. Put that in a box and put it to the side I was able to talk to you guys about it. You know what's going on. If I get snappy, that's might be the reason why and Yeah! I got five hundred other things talk about. We'll do that when we come back. Don't go anywhere. You're listening to the module the morning. If. You're going to give up your personal information. That's about that spine for. Oh seven nine. One six one four one or toll-free. It's one triple eight nine seven eight one zero four one so Angel you sent me the story. This is From Orlando magazine. And this is the the Chicken is testing. You hear about sometimes where you know fast food places and they try something new and sometimes they try it in certain markets and it's never our market if this is awesome. It's like oh they're trying this in New Mexico. They're trying this in Idaho it'd be the Midwest. Yeah but this one they're trying in Orlando only Kentucky Fried Chicken is testing a new premium. Chicken Sandwich In Orlando all tell you. It looks pretty good on the screen. I'd that image that they're using. It looks pretty good. I don't know if you can see it on youtube a but it looks pretty good now. The the chicken sandwich bars are kind of over though. Aren't they a lot of lot of chickens lawson? That war were lost in that war. But this is this could be. Kfc's little subtle like a little ball. Because they're like this again there are saying this is their premium sandwich. It's on a buttery buttery Bun sounds good I can get right back in the war. I'm willing soldier to see. I'm actually done with the other one though I got to really. He had a lot of reasons. Go into all that but Glenn fingers will cut off the gloves. Michael Jackson style. Look if I took it. They're saying that for their sandwich. Twenty percent larger it's a double breaded extra crispy fillet delicious. That might be too much meat. Though that was that was yeah. That was the problem my hand with the Popeye one. It was kind of had to switch back to Viking chick-fil-a because it was such a cute little thing to eat in my food too. Little Pill Minimum Thicker. Crinkle cut pickles. What they got now pickles. You're right about that. I mean if there's double breaded says double winning percents larger double bread it. Yeah Yeah. So that's I mean. That's a lot of filler. In there so the chicken may not be that big when they look bigger brighter. I want the chicken. I'm giving it a shot. Let's let's be crazy and now that we're here and you sandwiches anyway. I WanNa Tarlo. I bet you so much you know Mary Ellen Mary Allen has done the cooking and the hard work I say you still have given us. Nothing is that what you are still in debt. Because I'll tell you the two things we haven't gotten chicken sandwiches and pizza. All those are two things that are out. I told her to do that. Debt shall be pay. I told her do you. I was watching over the weekend on net flex and it's called History one or one. Anyone saw sued. One that's what I was thinking. Okay with conduct. I did not realize Kentucky Fried Chicken was the very first company to do franchising to to the franchise. The make sure all the food tastes the same all over the country But that was pretty interesting wasn't it? It was interesting and it's It was I didn't like the narrator the narrator choice was a little the woman yeah I just didn't think it hit home the points anyway. That's a different thing for different day. But I felt I felt like I was in school. I felt like I was to take a class. It was good I enjoyed it And and man you're right narrator can ruin documentary could be an amazing informative documentary and if that Voices Weird. I could not might not have been a British guy doing it. Then I really would have felt smart. I think that's what it was. She was very like there was no dynamic in her voice and I. I don't know but I'm a fast food guy like I enjoy some fast foods. Definitely not the person would be like whenever I haven't eaten food since nineteen ninety seven. Just watch the you watch the first one. Then you didn't you didn't watch all of them yet and watch them yet. But I I'll dive into it a lot of those subjects. I'm interested in and I've seen him on different. There's a Fox. One called explain that kind of did some of the same things so but yeah we are a fast. Food Society Man. We will consume some fast food and besides the portion sizes was an to see a little five ounce burgers what we started. We'd take a five Osborne against the wall. You try to serve as that. Yeah back in the fifties. It was a little five ounce now. If you've got that you'd be so mad and when you got a coq. Seven ounces seven hours. It's like there's no no doubt though that it's made us fat as hell though as a side. There's no doubt is it yourself is it. She never met business and they're making money. I mean we have to control ourselves. We have to have some sort of discipline guys appreciate a fast food chain. That went back to that kind of serving size. No we would go there. We wouldn't be mad at them as long as they're not keeping the same prices and then saying Oh look. We're trying to help portion control. But we're going to charge you the genie's out the bottle we eat we eat. This is what we need now. Sorry I used to be that but now we we big Ole sub. We want a big old when they showed the Burger and they showed like how big like the Burger like three or four patties. Now it's quite quite the difference but there's a lot of that thing was was really. I mean well I didn't know with you Getting getting the other topics but it had recycling is. Yeah a lot of big big topics on there that I definitely died back into it. Was Carlos speaking of like voices and stuff like when you listen to something. You're watching something. How can intrigue you or not? You know completely turn you off. I am listening to an audio book that I think you would like and it's unethical yourself as good yet. It's a Scottish guy. It's amazing just the simplest things that he says that you're like that are funny. Only because of his accent was you heard just a regular Joe Schmo talking. You'd be like punctuated. Yes it's it's Kinda Yellow Ole time. It's a he has a couple of those books. The other one's called but I I'm halfway through and I was just like this is some funny still. Okay all right but yeah as far as voices go yes. I didn't like her voice. She had a pleasant voice. It just like all that stuff. Just I don't know just something needed. The hit. A little harder was monotone. No it was just like a very woman. Explain nothing to me. Voice woman can tell me again. I look I wanted a man's voice. No it wasn't that it was just like Just in connect with me. It was just a little little plane. We thing that that was one of the things that we we had some time. I think it was Friday afternoon. Whatever I'm like I feel like we're in college. We're GONNA WE'RE GONNA learn all history one. Oh one isn't that interesting. Though that they know the how many things are on there right. How many how many shows are on their knees seen him although literally watched everything on every streaming have seen so much. Yeah it's like but they know they can do a study. No okay with the second we put this out. This many people are GonNa push it to the front of the line. That was one of their like things and so it even became part of their screen saver. I mean they. They're so much control and they know because you've already watched some of these things so the algorithm pushes this in front of you. I mean there's scream saddles on their changed. It because it was always the kissing booth soccer thing. I've never watched finally changed. I've been wanting the same three ads for things on never want me and mine was broken. I heard was a similar not the same problem every time you watch Netflix. Does it go to the to the to the scrolling? It's subtitles does it. Go to slip. Titles right away if you left them on from last time it leaves them. I always have to go and turn them off every time I got enough. Let's turn it back on. Drives me crazy but secretly secretly trying to make me read. And I don't WanNa do screen saver and I was like. Oh look at the little things that make you happy. I was like. Oh it's a new screens. Oh yes so on there. Now have a new trending on and I was like. This is easy thing. This is probably the most watched thing in the world. Pause Netflix's that goes into the screen saver and and it was wasted with some Spanish show about football has lost seventy was in English and then they moved back into Spanish because it used to be called Club of crows but then they changed it to the Spanish name of it and then and then it was always the kissing booth. And I'm like who the hell is watching the kissing booth. I've never even defeated. Have you ever heard of that one? It was a screen saver up. Check that out and then and then they do that. Sneaky thing where they change the photos of that to you. You do that based on your gender and race. What do they do daily again? That's what I was like do just like make them happy for a little bit. And then the news. Some money and then fuck off and do whatever you want. What do you think an apprenticeship is? Yeah. Because like that's made up like forty percent of the book. Yeah. Surprised when it happened as seventy percent of my kindle, and it's like, oh, we're going down. Yeah. I was like what could possibly how this long. I mean. I was just surprised at how little story there was leading up to it me too long. Made it so that not a whole lot could be happening while they were sinking. It was just literally Elizabeth telling her parents at least twelve times, I'm not gonna marry Allen. And then then being like that's cute that you think that, but you're definitely marrying Allen. Room and being like, I need to figure out a way to talk to them about a thousand other favorites. Vaguer out how to talk to her. She knew that she can wear them is that she was like, I just need another year to wear them down. Yeah. We'll ask them so many that they'll finally just like give up just don't make me Mary Allen. Let's figure this out. She also just so, and it's also ridiculous. That our parents are like no because like they can't force her like they don't have to pay for college. But like you can't make your daughter marry somebody in nineteen twelve. Yeah. That's how it works. I guess they would just cut her off on a, and they know she's not saying about it that money, I guess, but she also does a lot of locking herself in a room. Yes. And I thought that was going to be something to nature. Janez? She locked herself in her quarters a lot, but she sensible because she's like, I'm not going to slam the door, even though I want to go. Of the second tier teams I don't really, know what. That means. Like so your. Thank you don't draw them I think Notre Dame. Is always in, my, view At. The very, least Carver high top twenty team they should. Always be in the top twenty no, she'd always be there but there's years where they don't like but they. Should be there there there at least a I mean they, won ten games last year to me they're a. Ten win team every year and that was ten wins? That, I didn't expect going. Into the, year I. Thought last year was going to be like a. Seven six win year and they ended up. Winning ten then do you think that they play a tough schedule I I. Actually do not in fact. Place Stanford they play Michigan. And that's, not a tough schedule we'll, we'll look. From what they normally do I think. That this is a little, down from they always. Play those teams they play USC every year they play Stanford every year you're? Know you're getting those game plan Florida state, usually they. Get some. Tougher games in. They're the leaf play Clemson the last few years Brutal schedule Michigan So add by tax Stamford at home tech and back, to back, weeks And here's another one boy navy navy And then at northwestern. In Evanston Chicago that's a good game if you ask, me and in Florida state at home queues at home and at USC I actually thank you so be a good game because. They, got that games. At Yankee Stadium well there you go. I think it'll be a good game I think the accusers offense better than I've ever. Seen it to be honest with you I've never seen Syracuse look better. Than they did at times. Last year that's a lot harder schedule if he asked me, than the ones I've, already talked about including Alabama and. Clemson adding Notre Dame's gonna harder schedule but that doesn't mean I do not believe Notre, Dame's anywhere near as good as Alabama Clemson or, Georgia or Ohio State. Or Wisconsin, frankly our Washington or Oklahoma in fact I put Notre Dame at best as the. Same type of team as Penn State I think you'll find, out about them obviously the, first, game And I know, that Michigan isn't is not as good as everybody, likes to pump up. To be, either but I think you'll learn a lot about the Notre Dame team and the. Michigan team when they play the first. Week, in south bend There's a noose basically ready for Jim Harbaugh.
