"I believe number 11 and he just really took a big step between his rookie and sophomore year. And it was pretty clear that number one, this guy is an absolute player. And number two, he's a much better fit with the gente Murray who made his first All-Star Game this season. And so it was only a matter of time because Devon, Derek whites more of a combo guard playmaker likes to ball in his hands. He's now in Boston where he can be a 6 man, which I think was always his destiny. And now they put Devin the cell into Derek white spot, and he's looked really good in his first three games as a starter. So that was 6 5 two guard very athletic, long arms, really good shooter. He's pretty much the prototype three and D wing, but he has some offensive juice, kind of what we talked about last week how it's not three and D anymore, you need some juice too off the dribble and the cell has that, the cell is big, it's not the most like textbook shot, but the shot at this point you can believe in. He can get his own shot. He can dribble on the spots. He can finish around the rim. He's a really good defender. And now the spurs have this interesting backcourt, Murray and vassal. So I watched again, they played against the pelicans, and it was like, man, when you have two big guards, the pelicans were starting CJ McCollum and devonte Graham. He's like two 6 one guys. And the spurs have these two 6 5 killers to a killer is going against them. And it was just all downhill for the spurs all night with that size matchup. And I kind of really enjoyed this new spurs backcourt. I think they still need a front court player, but their backcourt of Murray and the cell looks like pretty legit. Yeah, vassal, Florida state product that's what sharks picks a Florida state guy to love every year. That's one of his things. But yeah, but sale totally positionally clever, very savvy player. Honestly, he was probably the most mature perimeter defender in that draft. I would say just off top of my head. Yeah, almost a 35% shooter from three. He was starting to give you some of that dribble pull up action things like that. But you have a cell. A lot of people probably the thing about the spurs is they're just not you don't see them as much. I feel like a lot of people probably don't even know who the cell is. He's a guy that, you know, maybe in his if he stays with San Antonio, people are going to see him more down the road because I think he's a winning player. I didn't get to ask you about really quickly here. Mavs got rid of KP. Were you feeling good? Did you moonwalk around the room? What happened there? How did you feel about that trade? Gosh. That says it all. It had to happen. I think the Mavs, I don't know what they got back in that trade. We'll see about the return, but the trade had to happen. It was you mean did waiting in bretons like what they'll be. Right. But how they'll fit into Dallas. I have some faith in Jason Kidd. He's done a good job this year of finding roles for guys and kind of maximizing what's on hand. But what it ultimately comes down to with KP is that he didn't want to be here anymore. You could never count him to stay healthy. And the team was pretty good without him. There's just not many places you could trade him to given his health situation. So I think a lot of the commentary on the Mavs I've seen as well. They could have waited till the summer. It's like, they really couldn't because what if KP got hurt again? And then you have nothing. Maybe he'll stay healthy in D.C.. I don't know. I wish him all the best. I think he wanted a bigger role in the offense. And I get it. You come to Dallas, you kind of got to buy into the Lucas system. And ultimately, he just didn't do that and so it was time for him to go and no hard feelings from our end, really, but it was just time. It was pretty funny in our MBA slack to watch the wizards people go from. We got rid of Dinwiddie and Bhutan. They were excited and then they were like, four porzingis. It was like, what? Just the reactions were hilarious. Dude, whenever they traded for porzingis the first time I told you this before, but I made a joke that I was like, okay, flash forward, three or four years from now and he becomes like a 7 foot three incapable Ryan Anderson. I was like, is that going to happen? Okay, I'll tell you a funny story about that actually. I would have been amazing 'cause he could shoot, but go ahead. I'll just put it out there. I think it's fine now. So one of my I had to go to a procedure last year with all my medical stuff. And one of my nurses is telling me the story how he was doing a procedure with the next front office person around the porzingis trade a couple years ago. And my nurse he was a big basketball guy. And he's telling the next guy he's like, why would you all just give away KPs so talented? What does that make sense? And he tells me the next guy just goes, you'll see. So this is like third hand. I probably shouldn't even repeat this story, but it's too funny. Oh my God. One more question before we move on. I know this is just purely for my basketball satisfaction. 2015, I think maybe rob said something about this rob Mahoney said something about this on bill's pod..

"So you had like the guy who's like bring your playbook to the office basically? Yeah, man, I went and saw the Turk. Yeah. Not only was I right. I was right to the second, but I was gonna say a couple guys that you were high on talking to a leadership changes, Robert woodard and demise Ramsey got quietly waived at the deadline by the kings. What did you think about that? Or did you even see that? It was kind of buried. No, I did not see that. So it's a new day, though I guess they were drafted by the new front office, but second round picks, that's the life sometimes. When you go out. And Jalen really quick just run it through Jalen Smith got the vote of ultra no confidence again from Phoenix that in renew him, they shipped him to Indiana for toy Craig, and then to kill Alexander walker. But let's talk about Marvin Bagley. What was your feeling on Marvin Bagley coming out for anybody that didn't know he was part of a four team trade that the pistons ultimately got rid of Trey lyles, who's coming up. I forget what his contract situation is at this point, but a couple second rounders. That's what they gave up for Marvin Bagley a reclamation project. I obviously, I learned a lot of lessons from because Bagley was this overlap between me following basketball in my free time to full-time. And I learned a lot of lessons on that. Why were you in a different place than me? What was your feeling on Marvin Bagley coming out of duke? My thought with Bagley, I mean, I think it's been kind of talked about a lot now, but it was just this basic problem when I look at big men and I'm trying to slot them in a role in the NBA. And for Bagley, it was, well, he's not a perimeter player. He's not really that skilled. He can't really shoot. He has a decent enough handle for a big guy, but he's not breaking down off the dribble for man. He's just not that player. And then you say, well, if he's not that, we'll see a center, can he protect the rim, no. And I think you go back to his time at duke. Well, there's games like, let's stick with you with players sometimes. And I think that's the value of watching a player over the course. It was college season. So if baggy and Wendell Carter, there is this famous game and I'll go even deeper. It was against Boston college and this is the game I believe that got Jerome Robinson drafted in the lottery from Boston college. So Jerome Robinson just running pick and rolls against Bagley and Carter all day. Absolutely destroying them in space. And after the game coach case forget this, we're doing a two three zone the rest of the year. And coach K is famously a man to man coach. So for coach K to say, my big men are so bad at defense. I must plan two three zone, forget it. Massive red flag. And then you combine that with the lack of a perimeter game. I just didn't really see a role for him in the NBA. And I think that's kind of played out. I think what allured me was this was a guy that I like tracked a lot earlier in high school and I loved his motor. I still to this day think that he's like a fluid athlete for his size at about 6 foot 11. He's not, it doesn't have like a crazy wingspan or anything. He gets a lot of just easy implied offense. It's kind of the thing that drew me to him. I thought that you could plug him into an offense and he could screen and roll and finish. I thought that he could become like a short mid range shooter. I thought the face up stuff was there. He has not been a good shooter. Another thing though that I think that we should talk about here is before we go on to that. I mean, the duke thing is interesting. You now were joking about teasing teasing duke. I have a bid on Twitter where I talk about being unfair to do because someone accused me of that one time, like a big baby. Who they are. No, I mean, do bigs over time, Bagley, Wendell Carter junior, I wouldn't say Wendell's a failure, but he hasn't hasn't blown our hair back. Marquis Bolden, I think that was a guy who was like miss evaluated probably just kind of seen as a prospect when he probably wasn't. Jaleel Okafor and then Harry Giles, no fault of his own. I don't know that there's necessarily a commonality. I know we're kind of joking there. It's more just about the way the game has changed. What do you think about duke Biggs in general? Is there any kind of talking, take away point with that? I don't love the way coach Kay uses his bigs more often than not. I feel like especially like the plum leaves. It would always kind of felt like go set a screen and get a rebound, do big man, get out of the way of my guards. That's kind of always felt his mentality about bigs on some level. And I think a couple points about when you're talking about baggage is true. And I still think he'll stick in the league because he is very athletic. He is very big. He can finish around the room, kind of make those three foot 5 foot plays. But there's two things one when you're a big man. So I'm someone like, I'm not super tall compared to NBA players. By I'm 6 four, so I played big man positions growing up. And it's like, yes, those are the big man offense, easy points. But you got to earn those points by playing good defense. So it's like a big man who lives on easy points on offense, but don't protect the same plays on defense, is always very questionable. And I think two with baggage, the other thing I think was a red flag looking back on it is passing. Because if you're a big man who can't plan the perimeter and you're not going to be a center, you got to play in tight spaces. You've got to be a really good passer. And that skill that Evan mobley has that has really allowed that Evan mobley Jared Allen twin towers combination. It's a mobile can make those shovel passes those quick passes in the lane, the bounce pass. He just really smart player complaining from the high post and sling the ball around the court. And if you're a big who doesn't shoot, you've got to have that passing gene a little bit too. Yeah, I think the plus minus balance thing is sort of like a forgiveness buffer, like what you were talking about Jared Allen is a funny one to bring up because it's like he gets you those easy baskets. But if he was just like a screen door on the other end, he protects the rim. So he gives you something and also it gives you buffer like we've talked about a lot in the past that if you can provide that defensive stability out there and you're not, it gives you leeway to sort of develop other things. It keeps you on the floor. Bagley, do you just start taking away talking about taking things away from you over time? It's just like, well, we keep lowering our options for what he can be as a player. I think the passing thing is interesting because I don't know the way he moves, I think I've heard a lot of people talk lately about aesthetic bias. I think and that could be at play whenever I'm watching a player like Bagley, I'm like Manny moose so well, he's gonna succeed. The easy offense is there. I think he's a really talented player on the offensive glass. That's probably his biggest skill. I thought the shooting was going to be there. One of the big things too, I think is fit, you know, Sacramento, as his dad has made abundantly clear. They were never really pleased. Team Bagley. They were out there. They were never really pleased with the fit there. And we've seen that I think had he been a better passer. He probably would have synergized better with the iron Fox, maybe the way that sabonis will, you know, he'll give some of those intangible things that would have paired. So I just want to I was curious so you're talking about baggily moving into a new fit into a new team in Detroit. What do you see in Detroit with him and like cade Cunningham? Do you think that can work? What's his role on this new team do you think potentially? I think that Kate is a more sharing minded guard than deer and fox. I think he's more of a malleable piece..

"I mean, the only curious thing here is they took a lot of flack for giving Stephen Adams, the contract they did, and then they kind of turned around and gave Valentine's Steven Adams level money, give or take a couple of million. But still, I think it's a solid deal for a big man that admittedly, I'm a fan of. I really enjoy his game just being that kind of throwback brute force center. Yeah, next year he'll be on the books for 14.7 ish million. It looks like. Which is that's actually believe it or not, that is over 3.2 million under what Adams makes next year. So that's actually that's a meaningful amount of money. Just kind of another fun little note. They have exactly one free agent now planned for next year and that's Tomas on a run ski. Everybody else is signed in under contract. And then they have Josh hart on that very unique structured deal where it's got non guarantees and a non guarantee with a player option, which is very rare and it's final year. But yeah, I think this is perfectly fine for the pelicans. Valentinus is 29 now. I think he's a guy who should age well because he's never been relying on his athleticism. He's always been a pretty ground bound guy. But I think with the way he is out of range to his game in that, that's really going to help. I think he's somebody we don't do a ton of this, but if you're a fantasy basketball player, go get them on Zions out, 'cause I think he's gonna eat inside. I think he's gonna get the ball and do a lot of stuff. Do you have that moment for this team? There you go. And I've never said that, so I can't even take credit for that. That's right. But yeah, but yeah, I think this is a good deal for the pelicans..

"Complete waste of a player who's doing anything. And people will say it's empty stats because it's on bad kings teams, or whatever, but again, this is not. He's not shooting 38% in scoring for 14 points on 20 attempts at night. That's not this. This is, you know, just a big you can do some stuff. So, you know, so I just feel like this is one where you kind of want to tell both sides. I mean, look, I think it's absolutely funny that I got to this point. But you want to tell both sides, all right, it's time to grow up down. Let's just move along. Exactly. Exactly. Both sides need to move on. I mean, look, if you're the kings, and you can go out there and you can sign Alex Len pretty clear that you're going to be playing him over your former lottery pick. In Marvin Bagley, Alex lender won any one of 15 centers. Yes. On that roster. Anytime continued, is they rival Cleveland for the absolute tallest theme in the league. Anytime you can sign a journeyman big off the free agent market and completely devalue your former lottery pick, you have to do it. You have to, if you're thinking, you have to make that move. A 100% sure. Yeah. All right, let's move on to big mistake. Oddly enough. Let's do Daniel gafford first. Washington Wizards. So if you remember, we talked about Terence man, I've probably about a week or so ago. He signed an extension where there's a little blue unique is what the clippers did was they picked up a team option for him for next season the 2020 two 23 season. And then they added two years on to it. Well, the wizards took it a little bit of a step further and they had a three years added a little over 40 million on there, so he'll be on the books next season, at 1.9 million, then that'll jump up to 12.4, 13.4, and then it'll close at 14.4 in 25, 26, all three seasons fully guaranteed, no options in there, no bonuses or anything..

"Hello, everybody. Welcome back to the NBA front office show Keith Smith here. Follow him on Twitter at Keith Smith NBA. I'm Trevor lane. Follow me at Trevor lane. A lot going on in the world of the NBA Keith. We had our debut of our morning wrap up show still to be named earlier today. And now we get to dive into some of the news topics, including, I think some pretty important stuff today. Yeah, I agree. Considering it's the eve of the season when a lot of this news was yesterday for the vast majority of the league, there was some pretty big stuff that came out. So I'm excited to dive into it and it's important stuff too. I think we got one guy wants to stay and one guy really doesn't want to say where he is anymore. Let's start with the guy once. And we're not talking about Ben Simmons. That's the crazy thing. There's no simmon siren. There's no Kyrie news or anything like that. It's neither one of those two guys. They're not gonna feature in this today's show..

"That's just not going to happen especially one who has a track record as marvin bagley. His father does of just saying ridiculous things and tweeting ridiculous things so you just got to like roll with it. I guess and you know you can't just trade marvin bagley because i don't know what his value is right now honestly and Like what are you getting for someone who shooting thirty eight percent from the floor. It's probably not a lot so you just kind of this out. I guess. I i don't have any solutions era. I'm i'm completely out of it with no. It's it's a tricky spot for them to be and i mean look like you said. He's shooting below forty percent from the field. He's averaging twelve points a game. I think we can agree. He is a minus defender at this point. And he's coming with some serious injury red flags because he missed a lot of time in his first couple of seasons. I'm not ready to give up on him either. Usually you get at least two seasons to show what you can do. He hasn't really had that because of injuries. So i think this is a make or break season for him and i actually kind of thing. That's motivating his dad comments in some way. They realized the pressure's kind of honor. He's gotta make a name for himself before. You're starting to get into that talk about a second contract and those kinds of negotiations. He's got a show something he's got to make a name for himself in the nba. And he just hasn't been able to do that i think. If you're the king you got to kind of bring everybody together. You can't just sweep these tweets under the rug. You've got to say look guys. We don't really get to have fans in the stands we don't really get to have a lot of connections with our fan base on a day-to-day basis. They're just watching on television and they're only seeing us on social media. That's sort of the the deal this year. There's obviously these zoom call. We're going to get some comments in interviews as well. But by and large social media year is taking on an outsized percentage of the fan experience compared to a normal season right. You've just gotta be locked up tight. This is going to be a long difficult season with these guys spending lots of time on the road together. Where any sort of chemistry Cracks going to show. We saw it. In the bubble teams that had poor chemistry eventually caught up to them and blew up. And kinda ruined their playoff runs. And i think for sacramento. This is a team. That's had chemistry issues. You know going back to the cousins era. If not before i mean. They don't accidentally missed the playoffs. Fourteen years in a row if ever there was a year to kind of keep complaints in house and to address things through the proper channels and to kind of hash it out behind the scenes. This would be the year. Because i just think it's a fragile year forever team around the league in terms of dealing with the logistical challenge. They've got to deal with. So you know to be like some people would say always. Just one tweet is just tweets. I think during fox put something out like that. I think for me. This would be time for a family meeting. You know if. I was there for an office. And saying look guys you know people view the sacramento kings kind of one way. Were trying to change that perception..

"That's really interesting about when Del I think. He averaged like eight boards this year, but he's the guy very similar to along vein of somebody like Brook. Lopez Robin, Lopez he's a really good team rebounder, and he's an incredible on the offensive glass, but defensively he elevates all the lineups around him because he's so good at boxing out. His box outnumbers are really good. Knee also has one of the highest contested defensive rebound rates at forty percent, which is the ninety fifth percentile, so it means you know always not just getting some random vs rebound that somebody else boxed out for Like I. Don't know I just think. Maybe it's a little bit different. I would actually say that perhaps heralds probably a better offensive player right now. Mean not perhaps I think he's definitely better off right now. Yeah, when Dell right now on, but I think one could be better than that just because I think there is potential for his spacing ability I know it's okay. So I watched all of windows threes, these taken in in his time in the league, and I don't think the form is too bad. I think releases a little slow Marine there's real potential there and part of the problem is they never get him set up in the corner He took I believe. He's taken sixty shots from three, and he's only only twelve from the corner this year, and if you're a guy who's typically like A. Alo- volume three point shooter your big. WHO HAS A slow release? You need to be in the corner so that you can get easier. Looks you know You know that's how guys who aren't really at least in my opinion, guys who aren't great three-point shooters are working I'm becoming good three shoes. That's how you improve on that. You Know Miles Turner. In I believe in is secondly when he shooting threes. Because, he was originally a prolific mid range guy. He took almost half a shots from range. And started coming out. The three started off in the corner. You have to start in the easier spots to to get easier shots and get more custody knocked down My point is I think he's a guy who become like a thirty four thirty five percents shooter I think there's potential with far away though. I mean I'm not saying. It's GonNa. Happen Right now, but I mean when I'm talking about somebody like no sapper Horford. You look those guys. Start shooting threes at a credible rate until they were both you know six seven years in career And I think you know he's very similar in the vein more MILLSAP and Horford Warford was obviously a top pick on the out and. Instant contributor in a no sad wasn't instant contributors. Welby a second round pick he wasn't. kind of its Weiner starting with the jazz and I. Just think there's a lot of similarities that we can draw from their game and. I think once there's more stable offensive system around him. With actually stable offensive players, incapable defensive players I have a really positive outlook for for windows career. One thing right now, though that I'm not a huge fan of you takes a lot of shots from the post like he posts up a pretty considerable amount but he's not great at it. I mean he's one of the only issues with him like he's a good screen setter, but he's not a great rim roller like his role. Gravity isn't very good because he's not like he's got verticality, but he's not A. He's kind of like. You know how we always talk about like. Oh bear like we you and I. We talk about Gobert Dwight Howard all the time you know. Comparing a primed. somewhere in between..

"He is a guy who very clearly is a serving himself as a guy who gets to have say who's playing how many minutes right when style of play. They're gonna play to the point where Vivek run a diva had to stay when announcing develops new deal. How great he's been with the rebuild everyone around him gets better. And I think a lot of people have questions about how good he is at his job. And why there's so much tension and disorganization around this franchise here for whoever takes his job next. They better understand that that those to have a relationship where if you're maybe thinking to get squirrelly and going above and beyond or going outside of a is it's not gonna work like device is. Is piped in with with Rani Devi. So you're not he can do no wrong in Iran. A divas is now if you're a coach how do you deal with that? You know, how do you deal with the fact that the same pressure that you're under the your general manager isn't under? You know, you show me what your front office and your coach and your best player look like, and I'll show you what your your success rate is right now is shaky at best and Sacramento, especially with young talent. Like Darren FOX that might be the best player out of that draft. Marvin Bagley got Chris Bosh like future ahead of them. So they got like eager did with that team. The question is can the new coach actually build on it? Or will you take a step back it Spain infants Jason gov film in for fits? Let's get to a guy who wasn't fired a guy who perhaps maybe extended. I think we might have some sound from John paxton's bulls presser today, if we do let's let's go ahead. And unfortunately, let's hear it. We do not. Okay. Well, maybe that's the best way to the reaction then. Yeah. That's obvious. Yes. Keep going. Yeah. Give us give me more stock. Okay. And that's the most side that's the west side. Oh city reacting to John Paxson saying an extension for head coach Jim Boylan is very possible. Two or three year extension with the team option would be the dorm situation. My response to reading that was I can't I can't I literally can't. And that was in words to how idiot Nick this team is how missed placed its loyalty is how unnecessary. "Well, first of all, I mean, I think here's the deal. I mean, if they're donate or giving money into what is it the one, oh, whatever it is. Van profit? That's how he would get away with. Here's here's I this guy. Why would he be saying this? He doesn't have factual things to back it up. Like, why would you? Why would you is this guy so wacky? And so ninety that he's going to be making these statements and not have proof to back where he is thirty. So he's supposedly thinks logically and in progression. And in order. So I mean, any of us shocked that that may be another shoe company would do vigorous just chameleon Dida step burn this shoe wars that we're trying to secure relationships. I mean, Marvin Bagley comes into same conversation. Marvin Bagley stat had had a contract with Nike as well. So I mean, so that's first and foremost, it's just that's the way it, here's my here's my problem with and everyone thinks I'm going to get I really don't care. They said, well, what's the big deal the bills because it's against? The big deal is if they're getting paid one hundred fifty thousand dollars to make sure they go to school ex a Nike school. It's an NC double violation and diskettes drills for all the guys that are not having someone do the same thing for them. It says nothing to do with all the players deserve more. That's fine. That's great. And when roles change they should be given more. But while the rules the way they are that everyone should be working under the same rules. And you know, look do gets great players do close got great players. Well, I don't know. I mean, you got Lance Thomas, and that's. Relation. You got the right way back with Avery in always to Kansas City. Yeah. Now what he was from Chicago. But he played for Kansas City. Hey, you teams. Yes. Magaji? So I mean like, I mean, here's the deal. I'm not pointing fingers I don't have the formation. But let's not put our head in the sand and act like nothing has happened. Because if this if nothing's happened. This guy's just like throwing haymakers. He really is crazy. But I can't imagine him saying this stuff unless there's Blidi too, right? I looked. All right. Is it wrong? Is it wrong for you mentioned Marvin Bagley Zayn Williamson? He was in the Washington Post. I believe Romeo length for one hundred thousand dollars from Adidas to his dad is a U program. Is that wrong? It's a way to do it legally. Right. Right. So you ever finds lives in grey or so you could do it legally. Until they change the rules, or whatever, then, you know. Is it wrong? It's business. And I I think shoe companies are trying to develop relationships to find the next Michael Jordan to find the next Brian James to find the next penny. Hardaway, whomever, it is because let's face it. The basketball. Market is a very very small market. I mean, this you are making money on who makes money in and shoot. Lebron? Maybe koby. Who who else sells you big guys don't sell shoes? But what do you? What do you mean? Like, what are does fire? I mean, that's just the way it is. Now is it writers wrong? If they can do it legally within the rules. I'm all for it. They're they're the shoe company's doing and say, we'll do this for you. But we wanna go you to go to school ex that then then it becomes a little bit different to me. Yeah. We saw if I got a standing, and then my my. Self worth or whatever is going to, you know, I'm gonna go to heaven based on giving a kid money who needs money. That's not a bad thing. I'm a little torn on it. If you wanna know the truth Seth, I don't know that it's necessarily awful for somebody give somebody money. But here's here's my deal. And here's where I just I don't like it. I quit a little bit. Seth I quite a little bit to steroid use in this vein back when when everybody was quota everybody was using steroids. Everybody wasn't using steroids and the guys that didn't use steroids..

"I will step down. Yes. Them been in the last thirteen years are not gonna make it this year. They aren't any just keeps going magic set a couple years ago if I don't have this straightened out in a couple of years, they won't have to fire me. I will step. Here's a but the thing about Sacramento is the right on the verge. And they've got really good young talent. I mean, if you if you take a look at that team, like even you could say they blew up by not taking dockage and they did. But Marvin Bagley has played really really well. But here's my question. Nobody takes those comments from sports executive series. Right. I take him seriously. So Voday should step down. I yeah. Yeah. I mean, I imagine this right here. He should stay should absolutely step down, by the way. He said that on camera. We should have that will know why I've got we've got so much stuff today. We got Jeanie Buss stuff. We've got what I'm saying? Magic said that he put himself on the clock on camera. Right. Wasn't to a writer. Right. And so I mean, I look Magic Johnson in with much swagger and much vodka said if I don't have this team back to championship caliber in two years, I will get rid of myself Greg founded, here's what he said last year. We don't know what people are going to decide to do. Right. And we can't control that. So if guys decide not to come here is not a failure. We turn to the next next if nobody comes and I'm still sitting here like this. Then this a failure. But if you judge us on one summer, that's ridiculous. Then a lot of do shouldn't be in their roles. I mean because if we're banking on one summer for the Lakers, we're in trouble. Right. We're in trouble. Because you have to give us time this class. I told you before I took the job. And when I took the job it's going to be to summer thing for the Lakers this summer. And that's and that's it. And then if I can't deliver I'm step down myself. She won't have to fire me I step away from it. There. You have it. We expect him to step down. If he said that it'd be ginning last summer. So he got LeBron right? Or have you see he landed the biggest fish in the sea? Right. But that seems pretty definitive garrison a lot of wiggle room. We'll know by July fifth Magic Johnson should step down. We'll have a very good idea. If you guys really Jim Buston, even do it. He put himself on the cloud and then genie had to fire him Jeanette define right? Jim was never gonna go. Spite the fact that he put himself now just putting yourself on the clock mean anything in sports because if. You're the one who controls it. Then you people are already Killa Magic Johnson know, the front office is viewed as just a disaster right now. So I think magic would have to step down. I think fans are angry about the way things. "They were goals of investigative reporters. And certainly some people at Yahoo are still on them and good for them. However in terms of whether the general public really cares boat. This is this is a story that has the FBI involved and wiretaps and all week it's been silenced because people just aren't horrified by the actual crimes involved. I don't know if it's so much about the crimes involved as much as the sport. College basketball just doesn't do it for us in that way anymore. And I do think where the argument would come up this scandal doesn't do it for us. So much Marvin Bagley was in the end. Aa tournament. There was a lot of journalism done about basically the way money was piped into that AAU program. Then sad ran which is basically if you want to if you want to the way to pay somebody, right? It was right there. It didn't really move the needle so much win that came out. So yeah, maybe people are just numb to the scandal. I think people are just kind of numb to the sport. I think it can be both. And you're right. The that Marvin Bagley story is far more explosive than this will wave thing because we'll wait is really guilty of being sloppy. And he's being sloppy on tape with the FBI, which is an unfortunate draw. But in terms of what he was actually potentially doing. You're getting money to families getting money to players. But he got the big three to play the three on Saturday and beat somebody up on Tuesday, a working on the block he'd better hope need some people need money better her games. Don't get tired of basketball. That's a big factor. Just acuity with Kobe Bryant everyone take out the articles released today on the feed. It was Kobe's advice Zion. Definitely thought that you know, if he's healthy go out there and play don't give up season and go to NBA, that's the Mamba metality. He said you make a commitment you finish the commitment. "And then you had a little bit of salt in that wound because you know, and I've always not been comfortable with this. I felt like bloody has done plenty of things to deserve some criticism. One hundred percent, right. What else has happened is? There's there's this kind of cultural thing where you know, because he doesn't English his second language, you know, when he traded DeMarcus he came out, and he he kinda told the press that I had a better trade on the table. And then I ended up taking this one. And that always got lost in translation because what it actually happened was the markets people scared. The pelicans so much about the markets potentially. Xining that they took a first rounder off the table. So the kings couldn't control that part. You know? So yes at one point in time. There was something better there. But still this pack is that everybody thought was an absolute joke has been the catalyst for their turnaround. And it has led to you know, the losing that season led to them getting there and FOX, but he'll turn into a much better player. And a lot of people thought he was gonna be just Jackson's come around a little bit lately and they're on their way. And now with Harry Giles Marvin Bagley, and you know, this young core, they're exciting. And it's weird for me because I'm still based near Sacramento, and it's been so long since I like, I'm going to the king's rockets game tonight. And it's been so long since it was February and you're going to the arena actually, planning on watching a relevant basketball game as opposed to just another team that's gonna roll through town and win by twenty or just going for the halftime show. Right. The halftime act, right? Last question before I go to interview, I go to connect with coaches players all those things I haven't just I would sit there and wish the game would just end quicker because the game was inconsequential for my purposes now, admittedly, it's entertaining that they're a fun team play up temple. And and they're giving it they just be really at home, you know, and have some big time wins. It's been a fun last question. I'll let you go Sam. Because the one thing is that the trade deadline like I mentioned, we'll be tomorrow through twelve three pm eastern time. But in thirty seconds how much do the agents of these players like you just mentioned with DeMarcus cousins last year. How much do the agents have to do with possibly what's going to happen over the next twenty four hours? I think there's a correlation between how much the teams let them impact Goshi ations. And then taking that power when it's available. We're seeing with the Lakers pelicans right now, it's sloppy. It's messy. Everybody's name out there. Everybody's pulling power plays. So it does definitely happen. But then you see the opposite. When a team like the clippers does this deal with Philly kind of in the dark at night the next at the same thing with porzingas that happened very quickly. So, you know, as much as I love reporting on the drama, and the names and the details, it's not good for business. When it comes to the teams, I Sam appreciate the time as always been fun to see if James harden can extend his streak tonight. Thank you. Good. I appreciate I was saying may make the your NBA writer from the athlete, but that was a lot to digest there. And in terms of like, the good the bad of what's going to happen over the next twenty four hours, and they're still some kudos at need to go to some teams who are playing will. That could possibly make some additions that could possibly push them over the hump. So definitely wanna die sex some of that as well as I know the Super Bowl is over. But there's now we turn to the two thousand nineteen in Phil season. And I'll give you some initials t b f in f if I'll let you just kinda dissect that for minute, and I'll tell you what that all means nex Kirk Morrison fill-in for rich the rich.

"It the original cavalier demand that came to free Cleveland, save Cleveland. He started the trend. He got LeBron there. I give all the credits at the one. You know, the one and done that gets no credit in also the do player that gets no credit in just like a guy who I feel is going to be lost to the sands of time in basketball history, Marvin Bagley really good. If Auburn fans through all dang. I I remembered his existence when we were Minnesota we went to that game the wolves game in he was out there. I was like did this guy. Didn't they go to the final four him? Yes. This is Lou Alday and the brotherhood count. I don't know s s Danny ferry. That would take a lot for people reference there. Just like daddy ferry whenever their head the guy that's currently negotiating possibly behind the scenes with Dell Dem's to send Anthony Davis. LA went to Duke had some not so nice comments about Lou Lou luau, ding when he was on the hawks back in the day. But then I remember that is that is the brotherhood. Yes. That is where the brotherhood said. Oh, that's that's why I got kicked out of the brotherhood. That's why. No, you didn't get kicked out. But it's just you never hear Loule dang like Duke guy. You don't see luol Deng think Duke, and it's weird because like all the other guys I do I don't know was just trying. Maybe that's why maybe there's something to that tape. All right. Let's let's wrap this up. What else we need to talk about before we get out of here? Quickly for me Carolina where in nineteen sixty nine race sixty nine honestly, always on top of the list here. But there were the nine thousand six hundred for Charlie Scott against NC state at eight o'clock. So that'd be a fun game to watch wearing the throwbacks usually when Carolina where some sort of new or something, you know, concocted, by Jordan or Nike. They lose something to keep an eye on as well. So that will be my point to blame. I will actually miss part of that game. I'll be recording a lot. So if they do lose, I didn't watch it. There definitely is probably gonna lose game to put it all out there, and that's pretty much it as far as the the college basketball thoughts. I have I do have a few NBA thoughts. I they're all these rookies we keep talking about Luca, and you know, that sort of taking on the, but like Marvin badly just had this three sixty dunk the other night that I was watching and trae young it's been grade and miles bridges has had some of the most ridiculous dunks. I've seen all. Season. So watching this whole class a rookies, I think is a great class or rookies, we're only talking about a few guys. But I wanted to point it out that I'm watching I'm keeping up with buzz young guys, and they're fun to watch. By talking about a few made. We're talking about one. Yes. Literally only one. Yes. Listen, the one I am willing to come around. I'm gonna say this you can you can record this. I think LUKA is incredible player. I think LUKA what he did a couple of days ago. Was absolutely insane. It is something I will remember for the rest of my life. I cannot say enough good things about Lucas eight. I'm talking, of course, with Luca Garza the big man for Iowa they beat Michigan wanted to give him a shout-out. He had nineteen eight against Michigan lane. Well, took it at Michigan. Yet, playboy all played out his mind, really, really good. You can tell he has like he's more advanced. You know, he's he he he has more advanced understanding of the game because his name is LUKA. So michigan. Are we worried about Michigan Tate? I'm more. I'm slightly starting to get worried about their offense that which is to say like Charles Mathews has completely disappeared on the offense event. He's still playing good defense for the most part. He had a few lazy closeouts against Iowa. We're just kinda got blown by when he jumped out a guys, but his his his offense is not existent in in Michigan as a whole their offense. Just feels like very disjointed like they don't it's very it's very straight..

"You are all that you came from us. All right. Where are we on Sacramento Kings are twenty twenty five after their win tonight five and force and philosophy and sixty slightly negative net rating puts the nineteenth eighteenth and offense and an identical eighteenth and defense fivethirtyeight projects them to have thirty nine wins which were tied them for eleventh in the west and only gives them an eight percent chance of making the playoffs. Probably due to. To the the preseason expectations. And also, I think they have a pretty tough schedule coming up the next would a while. I want to start with a question from Leo which was if you're the kings. How would you handle Willie Cauley Stein's impending restricted free agents because this was I think we answered a very similar one on a previous mailbag. Yeah. I wanted to start with that is I would offer him something low, you know, like basically backup money to avoid restricted free agency. And then it would say getting offer, you know, if that's not enough for you get something because well, I like Willie Stein didn't think there are things. He does. Well, he is not so special that you should overpay for them. And they're going to have the looks like a lot of money mean they could spend spend a lot of it this Thursday. But we'll see. Yeah. It's just very interesting to me how often bad teams, it seems like they overvalued their own guys more than good teams, do sometimes do you agree with that were just like open were so bad. We just can't afford to lose two to get worse. But. It's like really you need to retain these guys. Got you the twenty five wins last year. Whatever it was. Yeah. I mean that stands in stark relief to San Antonio's approach Jonathan Simmons. Let's say where Jonathan Simmons was rotation player in there. Like, oh, we could find another Jonathan Simmons and toon extent. They've been right Utah. We'll talk about them a little bit. Here. Marvin Bagley did return a little earlier. I think than expected from that left knee bone bruise played twenty minutes a against Orlando as the kings, blew them out or the plume. Sure is off the rose there. And the Sixers their old team is sick Butler and Chandler of miss last two games. But they should be back. Ben Simmons is sick now and then mohawk started on Monday against the Knicks but only played nine minutes, and then did not return to knees. Sort of the the blazers beat the next one eleven one one we can hit the rest of the news late. Let's break it up here and do another gamer where do you want to go next year? I think we should go to the other game that I was excited about the beginning of the night ended up kind of falling by the wayside because of Denver Houston. But Utah Milwaukee was still. Really interesting. I mean, you have these Milwaukee's paint dominance has been a story line of the season that will come up again, when we do our words thing because it was something I fixated on last month and going gets you touch us who just happened to have Rudy Gobert. And so I thought that the match up of these teams and again conference non-conference they only play twice a year. They're only game in Milwaukee. I thought it set the table for something notable in I think, I think generally fit that description. Well, the biggest thing is Utah came out right from the jump with really go. Bayer guarding Yonathan Gupo, and they were not dissuaded by Janas three five three point shooting against the raptors. And the honest was in fact, a over four in this game Janas did it have thirty points. But it took him thirty shots to get their his shot chart in the bucks. Overall was best Jaanus was eleven of nineteen at the rim which actually very poor percentage for him. 2018 NCAA Tournament national title game preview

"National championship after michigan finally ends the cinderella story of the men's tournament loyal chicago and on the other side we just kit straight up dominance from villanova over their fellow one seed in kansas and this is what i mean where we try and push greatness away set it all tournament the men's side especially we seem to covet this idea of forget parody just pure underdog underdog is a mainstay it's the only thing we seem to look for more often than not said it when kansas and duke point i felt like i do apologize for loving that game as much as i did and for thinking that was the best version of the tournament that i wanna see and so when michigan dispatched loyola chicago we finally had to get away from that and now we finally have to pay attention to the one team we probably should have all along and that's not to say we didn't pay attention to any of the other great teams along the way as one side of the bracket became decimated we started talks glowingly about kentucky team that was chock full of talent that may have suddenly had a softened path to the championship game we had talked about duke as they got ready to face that said same championship team they've got a star like marvin bagley a villain character like grayson allen and all along the way we got into these teams ignored the one we probably needed to be paying attention to most and that's villanova who has this eerie similarity to everything that we see mimicked at least the way we cover them like the san antonio spurs in the nba championship caliber ballclub i mean hell the stat vow built villanova snuck up on everyone the.
