'Doctor Strange 2' Loses Director Scott Derrickson
"The director of Doctor Strange Josh will no longer be directing doctor. Strange in the multi verse of Madness. Ben What is going on here. Yeah so Scott Erickson who directed the first doctor strange film and and as of yes or all the way up until yesterday was attached and announced in all of that stuff to be directing the doctor strange sequel. He announced on twitter marble and I have mutually agreed agreed to part ways on doctor strange in the multi of madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP. So that's that's executive producer. That's kind of an interesting thing. In and of itself took a lot of times when people have creative differences they just like split entirely. I'm wondering if it has something to do with. Maybe like a store like just a the development process in like how much work was put into the movie if marvel sort of like throwing him a bone for the work that he did their contractual to like. He's going to get money on this and it was probably part of this deal with the first one. If they made a sequel that he would remain main honest producer. Right Right James Gone. I think was going to be producer on guardians. Three after he was fired right which brings us to the question. How many marvel directors have been have like they weren't he wasn't fired they have split the both agreed flint? Right right. Yeah it's pretty rare for marvel studios goes to part ways with directors like this like. I think it's only happened twice so far with thor. The dark world where Patty Jenkins was originally announced. And then Alan Taylor ended up coming on directing that movie. And then the original ant man which Edgar Right was famously on board to make for years and years and then ended up stepping away. Sort of at the last minute and taking ended ended up coming in and he's become director for for all three of those franchise entries the third one is is upcoming but This is one of those turned out. Good one of those turned out bad What does this mean for? Why do you think Scott Dirksen left this? Because there's there's a couple theories he's going around the Internet. There's obviously when this was first announced. There was at a Scott. COMECON this year I think Derek San Rafael our fight. He was talking about how this is going to be kind of horror film of sorts. Yeah they said it was basically going to be like the first scary movie and the MC you and there've been a couple of stories about that where I think have himself has been talking about how Dr Strange supposed to have you know horror elements but not like full on horror movie. I it's never been like. The new mutants was originally sort of pitched as like a horror movie in the X.. Men World it's never been as explicit that I think he has his call. Hollowed out like You know the ending of Raiders Lost Ark and like things like Made some of the Amblin productions like that level of Scary stuff within a larger adventure story. So yeah I guess one of those theories you're talking about is that maybe Scott Erickson. WHO's more of a whore guy himself? He's directed the exorcism of Emily. Rosen sinister and movies like that Maybe he wanted to push the horror a little bit more than marble was interested in pushing it and that could be where those creative differences lie. Do you have another theory. Peter I have one. What will the other thing is that? That's interesting about the theory is fight. He's done some interviews recently where quick you mentioned he's kind of walked back the the the horror angle of that even though they lead with that at at COMECON so that's what why people are leading to that but the other theory is that this film film is going to tie into the Disney plus Empty you universe. was that what you were going to mention. It was yeah because like this sequel is really being positioned positioned more than any of the other Announced Movies of the MC you as like a very important thing to the future of what marvel is doing because Feigen has talked about. Ah being basically like a creative linchpin he said the multi versus the next step in evolution of the MC. You and doctor strange in the multi. Madison's GonNa crack it open in ways that will have repercussions Russians and he's talking about repercussions for like the movies after it as well as the Disney plus series that you mentioned one division the Elizabeth Olsen Paul all Bethany Disney plus show and low key. The one with Tom Huddleston where he's reprising. His villain role are both going to tie into the movie doctors trained to you in some way. So maybe it's a case of like derricks in just being overwhelmed with the amount of requirements in terms of like this grand designs of the story. I don't want to put that on him. That's completely speculation. He'd be totally fine with that. I'm just sort of looking at it from the outside in with our limited perspective. Respective here just thinking about potential obstacles that he could or that that marvel could encounter here. That could be something like that but I guess Swab to wait and see if if any more official information ever comes out about why they ended up parting ways in this capacity

Sony and Disney kiss and make up over 'Spider-Man'
"Was revealed this morning that Spiderman will stay in the marvel cinematic universe. What do we know Brad. That's right. Spiderman is back in the marvel cinematic universe at least for the foreseeable future in a surprise announcement today today from both Sony pictures and Walt Disney Studios the two announced that they have struck a new deal Kevin Feige to produce a third film in Spiderman Franchise that will be released on July sixteenth twenty twenty. One with Tom Holland back as Spiderman and on top of that the deal also includes an appearance France by spider man in a future marvel studios film though it has not been named specifically which movie that might be in the press release. Kevin Feige said quote I'm thrilled at spiders journey in the NCAA will continue and I and all of us models are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spiderman powerful I kind of hero whose story crosses all ages audiences inches around the globe he also happens to be the only hero with a superpower to cross cinematic universes so as Sony continues to develop their own spidey verse. You never know what surprises the future might hold will so that sounds like an interesting hint as to what the future might hold for Spiderman perhaps existing both in the Marlton a medic universe and Dan maybe a separate Spiderman Universe that Sony pictures controls and that makes sense considering Kevin Feige previously hinted that it was likely a crossover with Tom. Holland Spiderman and Tom Hardy's venom would eventually
Spider-Man Is Out of the MCU and Movies Are in a State of IP Crisis.
"Yesterday. There was some public negotiating going on between two movie corporations. One of them is disney and one of them is sony. Amanda can't even she's like. She can't even look at this going. I do unfortunately okay. We've talked about spiderman quite a few times. Actually on this show and spider man was was the political football of the movie industry yesterday because sony owns the rights to make spiderman spiderman movies marvel has been helping them do so and generating a small profit and working closely with kevin feige who oversees marvel studios and as the most successful producer probably only in the history of hollywood if we're being honest and it seems that didn't even wait. Let's pause on that for one second here. We go about it. Okay never had remiss he's going to have so many achievement awards named after him. It's truly well. That's if we still have movies by the time we get to his age of having achievement awards with his name on it you said and it and it seems the kevin foggy at least for now will not be involved in making spiderman movies normal marvel. It sounds like the <hes> tom holland. Version of spider man is going to a strictly sony product now in theory this is scary for fans of spiderman and there was literally a hashtag wakatsuki sony tony oh no trend yesterday people wanted to boycott sony because they could not come to an agreement on giving moral more money for the thing that they make that is a little bit confusing now. What will this mean. Practically it means that you probably won't see captain america in a movie with spider mingling if they don't come to an agreement i think those of us who are a little bit more more cynical and perhaps a little bit more savvy about this understand that they may actually come to an agreement here and at this impasse is public theater in an effort to show the world just how much they care about tom hall and being able to appear alongside. I don't know thor going forward the point here though is not whether or not we get to see spiderman in an avengers movie movie or whatever the point is. This is how movies get made. There was another bit of news. Yesterday i don't know if you saw this as well with that the matrix force coming from lana wachowski and by herself by herself. Lana has split creatively from lily which hausky her sister and is it amicable. I we don't know the the details of that. We know that this is important to me looking to me. If i'm gonna tell him not and i'm just like you just told me to grow up. I know this is life little torp welcome to what it's like to be on the spot and that is the question ideas services or whatever or american movies a bad dream right now is kind of a reasonable question to ask in the face of this because it now feels like we we got what we paid for. We rewarded everybody by going. All the superhero movies going all of the franchise blockbusters. Those are the things that drive the industry in a meaningful way. We have this conversation precision routinely on the show and i couldn't help but look at those two pieces of information which i think hit within twenty minutes of one another and couldn't help but feel a little little bit of a an existential chaos around what we're doing this for and that's not to say that i don't like those movies. I actually liked the idea of but that's another underneath movie. That's that's. I know it's not the point so how do you how do you both respond to these paired pieces of information. I told you so. I mean welcome to chaos it subsides after awhile. Can you get used to the natural order of things and you're just like well. I will go see tom holland spiderman and at least he's adorable and you find the things you like. I guess

'Star Wars Resistance' to end with season 2; trailer revealed
"Universe or do you think is going to be one of those things where jeff just keeps going around saying hashtag. It's all connected and in my guess is that it's going to be a whole separate thing still because i feel like kevin feige. Would you know if it all really is going need to be connected that would fall under the studios purview but this sounds like marvel. T._v. is still off playing its own corner of the playground and he he's hinted that there are other characters that live in that same category which are still to come so we don't know exactly what that means but <hes> i guess you can speculate away if you care about that little corner of the playground but that's the problem like i don't know with with the marvel studios stuff being integrated into the disney zinni plus stream. Tom Holland, Peter Parker And One Hundred Percent discussed on Guy Gordon
"The newest spider man is is out spider man far from home and Tom Holland who plays Peter Parker slash spider man arm was asked about his I guess future within the the spider man spectrum and somebody asked him he would be okay with spider man slash Peter Parker being gay and he said yes of course I can't talk about the future of the character because honestly I don't know it's out of my hands but I do know a lot about the future of Marvel and they're going to be representing lots of different people in the next few years and in case you don't know the background of this the people that basically run the Marvel studios Marvel studios boss Kevin feed I believe that's how you pronounce it I'm not one hundred percent sure has been promising that L. G. B. T. cute characters are coming to the Marvel cinematic universe captain Marvel I think is really making that push yeah isn't that the big rumor that that that that's what it's going to be and now now there's the spider man rumor whatever what what was interesting to me is is what Tom Holland the actor who played spider man I added to all of this quote the world isn't as simple as a straight white guy it doesn't end there and these films need to represent more than one type of person okay fair enough but I guess Mike is somebody who seen everyone of these movies and most of these movies multiple times considering I have a nineteen year old son and a fourteen year old daughter aren't the right one all of non white straight guys in the movies now are are they are they suggesting there needs to be a more prominent role per se is is that what I'm I mean yeah that's what it sounds like they're saying I mean off the top of my head like I said the only big L. G. B. T. Q. representation I think right now is captain Marvel don Cheadle I forgot who he plays in the Avengers I'm so there's a few but there were not many war machine war machine you know what I did it's funny you say that because he you and I did not talk about this during the break I wrote down all the characters that I know in the M. Marvel Studios, Emma Thompson And Carol Danvers discussed on /Film Daily
"Many Kaeling who is recently starring in the late the movie late night with Emma Thompson revealed that she has spoken to marvel studios about a potential MS marvel project. It doesn't elaborate, whether this is a TV show or movie, but she says that they are excited about she's excited about this character, and that they really seem interested in what she has to say about this character. So ms. Level is a comic book, title, starring Kamala Khan, who is the first Pakistani. American superhero from rebel, comics. And she essentially a fan girl of captain marvel Carol danvers character and finds out that she has repairs because she is in human, and those powers, get awakened one day, and she has the power of shape shifting, so it's really fun. Really zany series about this teenage girl, who trying to balance the her life as a high school teenager with
Robert Pattinson's Batman Films Are a Trilogy: It's Bruce Wayne in 'Detective Mode,' Says Director
"All right. So this one this story that, that I saw this week. I was very excited to bring into the show tonight, I found it, it, it's not an onion story. And I, particularly think it's hilarious. And you thought it was bad when they announced Ben Affleck, Robert Pattinson is officially the new Batman, the twilight actress set to play the Cape crusader in the Batman director, Matt Reeves film, scheduled for release in June of twenty twenty one Reeves was the filmmaker behind the last planet of the apes sequels athletes starting Batman in two titles directed by San by Zack Snyder Batman versus superman. Dawn of Justice in two thousand seventeen Justice league both films received mixed reviews and we're disappointment for Warner Brothers in its efforts to compete with marvel studios in the superhero. Realm patents in became a star following the breakout success of the five film, twilight franchise in which he portrayed. The vampire Edward Cullen opposite. Kristen stewart's. Bill Swann Jack, you're huge Batman fan, also now team Edwards. Well, okay. So Matt's of bigger, Batman fan than I am. I want to get to this in a moment, but I just had a conversation about this. Earlier today, one there was a great joke. Matt, you'll like this. And somebody said he's the worst vampire ever, because it took him ten years to turn into a bat. That is funny, and I have no problem with it all because the poor guy, I saw his stuff before he did twilight the hell of an actor and then he got pigeonholed into this awful, teeny Bopper, Rama thing that fortunately has given him this thing. He can't live down. So I'm gonna give him a shot. I have no problem with it as a giant Batman, nerd, only because Matt REEs, generally doesn't make crappy movies. So. As movies are really good. He did. Lord. He did the remake of let the right one in and actually generally really good. It's far as remix go, oh, those excellent. Yeah. I mean, he doesn't make bad movies for the most part. So I kind of trust his judgment, and he's he doesn't wanna do the over the top popcorn. Every five minutes and explosion type Batman movie. He wants to do a dark detective Noir story where you are showing Batman, using his skills, I've been wanting to see that in a movie for a really long time. So I'm okay with it. The guys at decent actor. Yeah. I don't know how to do is Bruce, Wayne. I think he'll do fine when he's in the costume you do. Yeah. I think it will. I think it'll be okay I trust Matt Reeves. I mean I don't. You never sold the twilight movies. I've only seen stuff he's done outside light, and it's always been fine.

"And it worked so perfectly and amazing. Those are those are that one stands out most recently that I can talk about is a pretty amazing moment. So as we head towards this combination, which you can't talk about obviously, there were many more and say you moments in the future. But some people have compared avengers endgame to a series finale. So were there elements that you wanted to make sure you got in there, not plot wise. But when you think about. Out things that you wanted to from the comics or particular moments of humor things like that. Absolutely. There were moments that we'd wanted to do for years that we got to do an endgame. There were what's fun about it is as with all of our movies. Ideally, you could just sit down and watch that movie and understand at all somebody Scarlett. How many of these moves I have to watch to understand endgame? And she said, she's not wrong. Infinity war is probably the only one that would be required viewing. Although we've we have screened the movies, we do all of our movies during the process, and I'm shocked people who rate the movie, I loved it. It was excellent. And then a question on the backside of the same sheet of paper, how many marvel movies have you seen zero? I I where do we find this people second of all that's great that they could enjoy the movie. So we always want them to standalone as much as they can that being said for people who have watched all the twenty one films leading up to this. There are lots of things paid off. And that's because you had the same people making the movie we obviously studios has made all these films are screenwriters, Chris and Steve have written. So many of the movies for Joan now that was games fourth film for us. And we're all fans, and that's the point of view that we that we make the movie from. So there are lots of things that if one were to sit down and take a couple of weeks watch every movie to endgame that are direct references direct, payoffs to set up going back to Iran won a couple of people who are doing that movie marathon. Right great. As you mentioned. There are lots of things there's so much input coming at you. You know, you've got the fans and all their amazing theories about what might happen. You've got an amazing set of writers amazing set of directors. You have incredible source material. And then you've got this incredible group of actors. I mean, it's not like you've got three strong actors and the rest are kinda. So we'll just write the scenes for those three. How do you as a creative person hone in on that story when they're so much at you? Well, all of those things are just named all benefecial, and they all help along the way. What what what you do need is a great idea to begin with? And that does come from pulling from the source material. It comes from deciding based on the MC, you cut nudie what we want to do and how we want to tell it. And if there's a a core of an idea that then all that other input. That comes in just builds upon that idea very rarely do we deviate completely from the original idea that excited us about a movie and each point. And that's what's amazing sort of an idea culminates within marvel studios and Germany amongst the amongst the the core creative team studios. I then we bring in a writer filmmaker it gets bigger and better than you bring in actors gets bigger and better then you start screening the film in the testing process, it gets bigger and better. So every point it's it's beneficial to get that additional input..

"Those people are vital and important you because they're going to bring a point of view and a process and a style that exists outside that John raw, and that could perhaps dementia help dimension lies and feed the John Ray, you're working and there's like really visionary. And so it's just simply the fact of that phone call like that said to us, this is a very different place. There's no other place in town that would have done that saying vision in my heart is cracking a little bit those envision last last question. Dan, if your eight year old self got a hold of the time stone and could trap. If your eight year old self got a hold of the time stone and can fast forward to see what you're both doing. Now. What do you think that year old would say? Excited as hell. That that eight year old watching movies and having proton experiences movie theaters on really populist films, as the reason we're here the reason we're making these movies. So that eight year old would just follow her laughing with joy, I know a lot of it your old about to do that as well as people of all ages. So thank you so much to ask so much. Okay. Kevin fight. You. Thank you so much for talking with us. This has been an incredible year for you so far cells nickel word at the PGA Oscar awards for Black Panther, and captain marvel just past the billion dollar market the FOX office. How are you feeling pretty nice? It's very nice. I I have a tendency to always look ahead. And always think about the problems to be solved looking looking forward. I wasn't sure what you're talking about. I. Mentioned the you all those things are are extremely nice panther, the success of pants with Academy Awards and seeing Ludwig and Ruth and Hannah up. There was one of the highlights of my tire career the success of captain marvel after all of the hemming and Hong and questioning whether in the press just over the years about the feasability of a female hero. And then at that shattered. I think it's gone. I think as we start to do and announce if future dates other movies with female leads that people will not eventually stop calling it a female superhero movie and just call it a superhero movie, it's really hard for me to not ask you about those dates when you say that, but I'm going to be good and ask no problem. Instead, I'll pretend I have the time stone and go back for a second. Tell me about the last day of filming of endgame. What was the feeling like onset? I mean, it's the combination of so much work and so much effort. It was it was a very long process. I think most people did in Philly. Warren endgame, in some cases, simul. Painlessly. But primarily back to back with three week break in between. So it was a long haul. It was really the longest certainly longest production period. We'd ever had it marvel. I think the longest anybody working on the film had ever had. So the end was very emotional for all sorts of reasons. And as if it weren't emotionally draining enough bringing this twenty two plus movie saga to a conclusion. There were multiple endings. There were I'm not talking about the narrative of the film. I'm talking about the experience of the production because not everybody was there on the last day. So you would have each actor is they were wrapped out for the production. It would be very cathartic is Joe Russo said today in the press conference a cathartic moment every time. So we went through these very like last day of school emotional moments a dozen plus times because all the actors wrapped two different days. And then as we always do at marvel studios, we did some additional photography along the way. It's exciting everybody. Again, you do a few days or few weeks? Whatever it is. And then you say goodbye. Ted. Oh, it was over and over and over again, very emotional one of the things we talk a lot about what the actors on. These press Torres is what has been their their marvel moment that moment onset when they just knew they were in a marvel film because it's so unique. So my question for you as the grand master of the marvel cinematic universe is how would you define what a marvel moment is grim..

"And it's so easy. And you're already link listening to this podcast, and you're watching our videos, and reading comics and doing all kinds of things that you could be getting points for just doing the stuff you normally do. And then you can redeem all of those for awards, which like why wouldn't you so great? This was not a paid advertisement. Literally. Just those being like do this get free stuff. Yeah. You might as well. It's just sitting there ready to be tooken. Yeah. All right. So that's all stuff we're hyped by right now. But we gotta go to our this week in marvel history section. We are looking at April the twenty sixth through may the second across eighty years of history. I always. Like to start with the oldest one that I pulled which was April twenty nine hundred fifty four to atlas era debuts I being navy action. Number one, I have I don't remember any I've researched this like two months ago. It's a great name such a great game. A love navy, man. I love fleet week. And also same week Ringo kid number one came out, which is the first of the western hero, Ringo kid. Do that get you? Yeah. Great. I've grown up yet ring. Okay. I love the old western comics like what's his what's his bucket. Good old. I'm thinking of combat Kelly because that's what the navy action reminds me of. But also to kid two gun kid trips. Just give me two people. Keep you. Yeah. Yeah. There's somebody. There's a lot of great western characters. I love it. Let's also take a look back at this guy who made a real smash in nineteen sixty two incredible hulk number two by Stanley. And Jack Kirby gives us the first look at the green hulk if you guys know anything about the way printing worked in those days, they did not intend Hoke to be his original color, took some some judging which is why they landed on green because it was an easier colored print all that is true facts. All right. How about me second of nineteen sixty seven a fine here. But it also brings us the issue of not brand Eck. It's one of those titles. It's so ridiculous. I just love it. I wish I could ask someone from back. Then why why we do why? Well, because it was a play on the X men. They did the ax men. And that's where Forbush man comes from an Irving Forbush actually debuted in nineteen fifty five issue of snafu. We had a book called snafu, which I need to get my hands on the covers in like done a little bit of research. What I could find I finished my collection of what those and what if as I've been like trying to build those up and put them in my spinner act now onto not braniac. I have the first tennis shoes if you don't know what. Those those books are it is a straight up parody series. Just making fun of ourselves making fun of our competition, influenced the moral what the comics the animated stuff that we've done and there's a comedy issue of each series of what if that is influenced by. Not Brenda as well. There you go. All right. That takes us to may first of nineteen Eighty-four which introduced the west coast or the best coast, east coast is best coast. Sorry spoiler. You're from the west coast. Hi, no. I've turned tail lead California. But the west coast vendors never one gave us a second of injure squad led by Hawkeye with his wife, mocking bird and just getting into some real hijinks. Also, I loved loved loved when Hercules got in there into that west west coast of injuries action alot of her glues, Hercules, I do Email chain about trying to find costumes for something and like maybe the best customs. And so I was like my immediate. I thought was I need to find a picture of the avengers in the nineties when they wore their bomber jackets because they were wearing like matching bomber jackets. Like, hey,.

"Community. Hello marva lights. You are listening to this week in marvel episode number three hundred ninety one I'm Ryan pedagogy agent. Adam an an Lorraine sink side kick and professional fund gal. How dare you? You are nothing side kicki. You are co host right now. You are equal. Thanks. That's nice kick. Get out of here. I like to well, I like to kick people in the side is that what they do. I think you are the same height as me or taller. I we're the same height pretty much. So in heels, technically, I'm taller. So I'm the side kick now. I have to ruin this week. And it's mine, I not gonna ruin it nothing to ruin because this week is so huge. So big so important. Our top news is of course, that marvel studios. Avengers endgame. Terrific interviews so tomorrow, and I chatted a bit about doing the junk it talking about the stars during the red carpets for marvel. Little bit science all that good stuff. We'll get to that in a bit for now onto things are hyped about this week, comma, including news, also, I'm I'm sorry. I'm gonna go back for two seconds. Because mark. Mcfeely? I'm very excited to hear this interview. And you guys should be excited too. Because they have been working with the Russo's since they started first working on captain America films. "It's time for our big talk section, the rain. The big talk is sort of random whatever we wanna talk about. But because you're here we wanna talk about live red carpet premieres. I would love to so funny that you ask. No. Honestly, the premier's are. I mean, they're always super fun because we are live streaming them. And we're on the carpet. But the thing that people don't think always think about is when you're doing a livestream of red carpet for us. We're doing a show for everyone else. They're showing up at a party to celebrate the thing they already made. So they're not there to work. We're there to work. But that makes it more fun because it's like people are crashing in on you hang out when you're like watching the premiere, you know, you're in the middle talking to someone and then they'll see like their friend that they haven't seen since they were filming the thing just like hug each other. And you're like in the middle of this is great. I mean, so I did the marvel studios captain marvel premiere. And it was so funny because our configuration was a little bit different. Normally, you can see the guest walking up toward you. While this time our stage was backwards. So the guest was coming from behind us. And I just felt somebody put their arm around me. And and another one around my co-host. I look over it Samuel L Jackson, which is like a great surprise. I was like, oh, hey, what's up? We're just gonna chill now. Unloved? Yeah. Just killed it in his hat. I remember there for the marvel studios, captain America's civil war premier. You were you were doing your thing. Tomorrow Krinsky was doing her thing. And I was I was there taking behind the scenes video and showing a different version of what everybody else is watching. Well, and that's the thing too. That you don't even think about is before. All of those crazy celebrities are everywhere all over mobbing the carpet. The carpet itself is also just really cool. They build it in like twenty four hours. It happens. Super duper fast. They put up this whole huge said, they roll out the literal carpet, but then they also put a ton of set pieces from herbal studios film. So like for ant man, they had that huge salt shaker. You know in the film. He expands it makes a big while they have a huge salt shaker now. So it's being there on the set. There was the drop ship the creed drop ship that Minerva drives marvel studios, captain marvel on that set, but there's always like a big huge crazy set piece in than some really fun other little things, but for Infinity war, they did a huge tent for the marvel cinematic universe tenth anniversary, and they had costumes and props and sweet cars like just do a car. I still five cars as ING, I am the reason why there's so many security problems. Do wanna give a big shout out to the marvel studios and Disney like live events teams. And even the marvel team here, the moral theme entertainment like everybody who works behind the scenes to put. These together. It's one of those things. Yes, there's thousands of people in any movie production any television production, working comics like all this stuff. And it's those people who you'll never hear about who do such amazing work behind the scenes making it. So the people watching everybody who's listening now doesn't even think about it. Oh, definitely. And I also think that's one of wonderful things about the premier's to is there. So many people who work on these films that are never in front of the camera like just the via thanks crew. And the SF X crews are huge, and they all make that film come to life in such a big way. And what a wonderful way to get to celebrate them. And for them to get to be part of the carpet to do. You know, what number premier this is for you coming up. I was trying to figure it out. I think I think it's at least six or seven I think it might be my lucky seventh. I know there been so many, it's crazy bananas. And you who are you co hosting with main for this one on this livestream? I'm gonna be co..

"But they know that it's the right prop for the scene. They'll make it work. So my goal is always to make the prop become part of the character. So it's just seem less than they are like they have been reactor the hammer the shield like that all becomes very seamless. We talk about a lot of weapons and hard tangible things. But also what you brought out for us to see in this. Visit we've got the little baby Groot, he's squishy adorable. We've got the full-size rocket. What's the difference between creating say something like that? That's Ganic that lives and breathes versus something that is hard metals going to be hit knocked around and potentially broken. Yeah. The rocket and Groot aspect of this job is very interesting. They are characters in the film. So I'm not just dropping prop of to an actor. I'm dropping prop off that is the actor. And so it's my responsibility to puppeteer rocket group for the actors. So I give them an eye line. And we always do take her to where I'm they're acting with the actor. So again that goes back to I take a little step beyond what a prop guy does and contribute to the film to make wonderful. Well. It's one of those things where well where do we store rocket and grew storm on the truck? So when I bring rocket to the set and James says, okay rocket this at night, and he moves over there. And after that line moves over there. There's no one there to do that. But me, and so we do it, you know, and Sean Gunn is onset all the time James brother, playing rocket who has the most agile brilliant actor that I met in quite a while. Because James Gunn goes out there or Sean Gunn rather and squats down to rockets height and walks like a wreck, I it's amazing. It's absolutely fascinating. So I watch him. And then I pop a tear rocket on a reference takes and I follow shown guns lead. And then Groot is all me just they told me where he wants to go, and I bring him there. It's kind of fun. It's kind of cool. It allows me to experience what the actors are experiencing. And of course, we have the Infinity gauntlet which for me is like the alternate marvel personification of power and cool calm. Smick craziness because something I grew up with and something that I'm so excited to see and seeing in person Schwantz, thank you. Thank you. Appreciate you worked on helping bring this to life, and it looks frigging. Incredible. It really feels and it works like real armor was that your call was that did that come from the Rousseau's who said we want this gauntlet to feel like a real piece of I love giving credit where credit is too. And so I'm going to take credit for that. I have this theory about props in films. If you make a really cool prop that cameras gonna come in and look at that prop. And if it's just an okay prob- might be overlooked might be passed over no care about it. So what I did is provided for the Rousseau's. What I thought would be a really cool set of materials to us and the size and the weight of. No. And they see that when they say to me, we need a close up shot of that prop. I know I've done my job, and we do a lot of close ups of the Infinity gauntlet. So yes, I I knew of and have worked with this. Lack Smith that. I've used for years. Tony swatting in Burbank, California and called them up. I knew he was the man for the job. And so I worked with him for months and months, we went back and forth about his opinions. My opinions how big should it be how small, you know? Oh that leave me room for the stones that I'm going to create separately. And there's going to be electron IX lights that come through it and all of that good stuff. And that's how we came up with the the concept for materials the gauntlet is kind of a lower piece of lore. That's one of the pieces where I never said we should make something cooler than the lower describes..

It let's make it out of more current materials and give me a shot at it. And he liked the idea and drew several of them and built it. And it turned out to be a good communicator. We did the same thing with the phaser. It's those things sometimes you just stumble upon and then of course, you know, you get your fans who say this should have been, you know, next gen and it should have been the original nineteen sixty seven piece. Well, I have to. Make it cooler than that. Because of the non fan needs to see some somebody has never seen Star Trek sees the I Jin phaser. They're like, oh, well, that's something. So that super neat. So. All right. How do you get into the marvel? Yes, I get I got a call one day. I had worked on Charlie's angels, and a dear friend Michael river, the late great Michael river production designer and I had worked on Charlie's angels. And he had gotten the call to do. I ran men one Lewis DSP Zito put that crew together. And Michael called me and said would you please me with Louis? We're doing a film, and I think you'd be good for it. So I go into Beverly Hills. And there was a small office above a Mercedes Benz dealership, and I go into the office, and I sit down at Lewis GS Zito's office, which was a quaint little office with one guest chair and his one desk and a whiteboard. When I sit down, and he he explained to me that we're going to do this movie about a guy who goes into metal suit and flies around and saves the world, and I thought oh, wow. Okay. That sounds interesting. But I'm in I'm game. What's it called iron, man? It's called and I felt great. Well, let's embrace that and figure it out and research it, and yeah, it's based on a comic book and okay, right? I wasn't familiar. I'm sorry to say to the crowd. Thank you. But and then I looked to my right? And I see this whiteboard. And literally and dry race markers was a list of ten or twelve films, and I just looked over and I read Iran, man. So I knew that was they were film titles. And then it said our men to captain America and Thor and three and I looked at it. Just had this weird moment in my own space about that whiteboard. And I thought gee, how aggressive is that? This. This guy's in an office with one desk and a white board. And he's got a whole list like scribbled on board of all these film titles, and that was ten years ago and not only have all those films been made. But another ten have been. Yeah, it's it's wild. So so you join with iron man because at the time, it's you know, marvel studios was figuring it all out. What does the set like in those early days? I think Fabio Jon Favreau, our leader in our creator. I consider him one of the great creators of this universe that we live in. He kept the com- jovial and serious. He's real serious about what he does takes very seriously, and he expects you to be educated and prepped and yet he's still human and he's figuring out as well. Right. So even down to the cave scene where Robert had a solder. Things and create his first arc reactor. I'm in their teaching amount of solder, and you know, the team gets together and keeps it fun keeps it light without a real plan. Sometimes getting there, we do it. And the smoke comes up from the solder and Robertson magnifying glass, and it becomes this beautifully orchestrated scene because this team comes together with all the planning that we had and it works, and it was a really huge turning point in that film for me in that three days later after they had cut the scene roughly together, Jon Favreau comes up to me. And we're shooting puts his hand out. And he hands me something, and I put my hand out. And I take it, and I opened my hand, and it's a single wrapped lifesaver, and it was his way of saying to me, thanks for saving that scene. Because we didn't really know how it was going to come out..

"Opportunity, Greg to do that. And I've had about three weeks off since it's been thirty six years. What was the movie of the week? It was called special bulletin directed by Ed her squirts and Marshall forgot his last name, but great directors, and it was about a nuclear blast and surviving it, and it was a great experience. I learned the etiquette and the casualty of filmmaking when we got on the set, and this is my first day on set. And he said to me, hey, Grammy, two cups of coffee, and I thought okay. Well, you know, I'm new I'm the coffee boy. And I went, and I grabbed him two handfuls of coffee, and what I didn't know is the directors had said, Bobby the sets. Not right. Just doesn't look right. It's just looks to new. So in the meantime, Bobby had asked me to get two cups of coffee or hand him, the two cups of coffee, and he pours them out all over the walls of the set. And he said now the sets ready and the director said oh my God. That's great. But shoot. And I thought what did I just step into? This is not like anything, you would think work should be and I right away. Then knew that being jovial was good. And being casual is good. And if you're out of the ordinary a little bit people are going to recognize you and dig it. So I ran with it. I fell in love with being onset. You also worked. We talked a little bit off camera about working on Bram Stoker's. Dracula what was that like that was such a cool visual movie, obviously working on the more of a movies? But what was it like working on Stoker's? Well, first off with Brown. Stoker's? Dracula you're working with Francis. Coppola, you know, you work in this business many years. And there's very few people that you're in all of Francis was one of those people that you go to set and you're like, oh my goodness. Really happening. Pinch me. Right. He's one of those guys Robert de Niro's another one that I've worked with that. I got that feeling but Dracula had such incredible production design, and such great people working on the film that had to kinda step up your game. From whatever your game was even if you had a good game you wanted to step up your game..

"A bunch of these films are being made constantly right and their main competitors Marvel's studios, and they're looking at marvel studios and they're seeing these numbers. These films are making man. The wasp was making a bunch of money not only that Black Panther Infinity war, these stories, their trailers become these touchstones for conversation, and those things people are talking about when they're amongst appears in filmmaking studios. These are films are talking about when you look at the highest grossing films of the year, and they've got three of them though the conversations that are being had because that's their competition. So they, I think they're, they're, they're focused on that and not necessarily focused on how do we make the best product because we get here. We're not good con- yeah, we're not gonna do it at one hundred in two films. Let's figure out a plan and then we'll reach the point within. We're making this happen money consistently who's because we've earned that trust my audience who believe in our product. Instead they just wanna go from Batman, superman Justice league, you're not okay. I don't care about it. Of this. I think they're missing that piece in it. Again, I've said a trillion times. They need a person to guide that ship and their ship without a captain, and it's constantly taking on water and trying to figure out different ways to put up these holes. But the ship is just thinking I figured out now. So we might not. So as of the release from variety of the reporting twenty twenty one. Ooh, we that's like two years more that because it might not even start production too late twenty nineteen and has a bunch of FX. Yeah, we, we're never seeing a solo flash movie that in its current interruption. I think after the relaunch of 'cause they're gonna do wonder woman. She's an that tonal shift is going to be interesting to how successful is moves are will be indicate onto what happens. I feels we don't get the MCI if if it takes. Yeah. 'cause hulk before that I'm gonna tanks of this happens because they're in scramble mode. But if these movies make money and they're successful and received well, critically. We'll see a different. There's probably different limit about step at the studio in an idea of like what direction they should go. However, I thought they would get that after one woman and appears that have not thought we'd get it. No. So I unfortunately as much, I mean flashes one of my favorite characters. Yeah, absolutely. The TV show is great that TV show. I just did this movie in the current scope of things with the EU. I don't think we're ever going to see it. We might not not this iteration of it. We might have a different flash when we do now. Next bit. So we will be talking about their movie here and a little bit. But Jason, Plum of blunt house kind of problematic. A hot takes this past pretty bad. He said, so he was being asked by polygon there an interview just wide. There are not really any women creators in this blunt house, which has been doing amazing stuff, and they're putting out like four movies a year. So they were like, why in the past eleven years of its existence has blunt house never released a horror film directed by woman. Here's what Jason Blum said. We're always trying to do that. We're not trying to do it because of recent events. We've always been trying. There are not a lot of female directors period and even less who are inclined to do horror. I'm a massive admire of the Bob who director, Jennifer, Kent. I've offered her every movie we've had available. She's turned me down every time. Jason, miami. Bad idea..

"But yeah, I don't know if you guys just hit on the head, it looks like a Halloween costume. And yeah, I really don't know house is going to translate. To a live action movie with teenagers door just feels very weird. It's definitely weird and you can see the full photo at the article that we wrote on slash philmont linked to that in the show notes as well as all the other stuff that we talk about today. Let's move to our next thing and that is that all of the marvel studios movies are coming to. I'm max theaters this year, Brad. Tell us about what's going on with this. Yeah. So as we know this year marks the tenure anniversary of the launch of the marvel cinematic universe began with iron man all the way back in two thousand eight. And even though this year already kind of had its big celebration in the form of vendors, Infinity war marvel still wants to do something cool for the fan. So they're bringing every single one of the marvel cinematic universe movies, all twenty of them from iron man through ant man and the wasp will be coming back to. I'm ex screens over the first week in September as including also the last couple of days in August. For the first few days, they will play every single movie in the MC you in order at many order in which they were released. Then for a couple of days, they like pick some random movies to show like doctor strange, and by can't there on Spiderman and guardians, two. And then for the last two days of what they're calling the, the marvel ten th anniversary film festival the viewers or fans, rather we'll get to vote on which to movies air on the final day of the festival. So how do people actually participate in that voting? Do you know? Apparently marvel and I'm ex are both going to tweet out a poll on Twitter that will allow fans to vote which movies to movies they would like to see on the final day of the film festival. If you want the full schedule as to win, they'll be playing between August thirtieth and September. Six. You can check out the article. We haven't slash realm. You might be disappointed to see that the schedule is a little bit odd. They're basically playing four movies every day of the. Festival, and they span from matinee showings to into the evening with exception of the final day when they're showing the last the two movies that fans will vote on. So it's a little bit odd because some of the movies that you would probably want down the bay screen again, aren't playing at the most opportune time for people who have jobs. So it's a little bit frustrating. But then again, we're talking about a film franchise that has all these movies available on home video for you to watch whenever you want to you. So I imagine they're not looking to get tons of people come into these screenings. Yeah, and that's the sort of thing about this. Like I love the marvel movies as much as the next person, but this seems like a little bit of overkill. Almost like I think the, you know, a lot of theaters, I think AMC and a few others maybe organized like marathons leading up to avengers Infinity war earlier this year. So I feel like that is like a pretty regular occurrence with like a lot of the major marvel movies, at least the vendors ones anyway. So it sort of feels like these movies have never. Been out of theaters and like, you know, when when you have three moral movies a year coming out, it's like we're constantly in marvel mode. So I understand the desire to celebrate a tenth anniversary and like the incredible accomplishments that the MTA is has whatever achieved over the past decade..

"And then of course, from the fan boy perspective, yes. This means that the x. men will be back at marvel studios where they had sold them out to FOX, all the x. men movies had been made by FOX. Now that's the same people who do all the marvel movies they are all in the same place. Full, right, fantastic. Four as well. Yeah. Which which kind of bellyflopped at FOX, maybe Marvel's got a new take on that. That will work. And then there are other properties to that. It's just like, you know, you lift your eyebrows like yes, Bart Simpson and Mickey Mouse are worked for the same. Company now, which is really fascinating. The x. files is now at Disney property. That's weird. Like there's just a lot of those things. It's like this really, but the so, yeah, strange bedfellows. We'll see what happens. On that note super-quick there has been another announced show for the possible who knows what this knee streaming service announced, Comecon Star Wars. The clone wools is going to get its final season. Apparently I've, I haven't seen the show, but my understanding from reading about it, the story wasn't finished. The show went off the AB. The story was over and they tried to do some things to wrap it up. But there is a whole new season coming, which will finish the overall of the show. This clone rose animated series will join Jon Favreau stalls project that will premiere on the streaming service, whatever it might end up being right in some presumably marvel projects that we haven't heard of either. So who knows the stuff they announce a Comecon in the stuff they didn't. It makes me kind of try to calibrate like when they actually are gonna launch this and what's going to be on there if they, if they only have certain things to announce. But yeah, they, my friends who are Star Wars fans who are like, huge Darwish fans were blown away. By this because there were no reports that this was going to happen. Everybody expected that they would have a follow up to rebels, which is the most recent one that replaced clone wars and wars got caught in the shuffle, right? It was on Cartoon Network, which was a different network not owned by Disney. And when Disney bought Lucasfilm, one of the things that happened that is, they're like, yeah, we're gonna not make that show anymore. We're gonna make a new show on our own network. And so this is interesting that maybe some contractual reasons why didn't happen before, but that they're going to get to come to complete the story because it was generally a well liked a show, although I have not watched it maybe someday and Lessing wants to talk about was YouTube premium. So they've announced that slate of programming is gonna I think going to be the full programming and it includes Will Smith custom Dunst, Robert Downey, junior and many more Hollywood stars you may have heard of. And this is very perplexing to me because. You should read when it launched was all about YouTube, giving TV series to the YouTube is right, like this kind of the idea. But now all of the YouTube premium shows that they are talking about all of the new products. All of the new projects, I should say all with Hollywood stones. So they renewed Michael Stevens minefield his from vessels YouTube as well as show called Folsom, which is, I think, the full season, which is one of the very original YouTube red shows. So they're the youtuber shows, but that just renews of successful shows all of the new stuff. The I could find is coming from Hollywood. So clearly YouTube decided to they wanna position themselves more in line with Netflix, Amazon.

"Is tv bigger than movies because it from a scheduling standpoint at this year's comecon that's how it appears to be playing out why think it's numbers versus impact that definitely hollywood is less present in terms of number of programmes but i would say the anticipation around both the marvel studios panel and the warner brothers panel is as high as anything because both of those people here cannot wait to see the new black panther and ms marvel footage those properties are both generating a lot of excitement you know to see some new characters in the marvel universe and then warner brothers has not only in a riding on the coattails of wonderwoman which is the breakouts success superhero film of the year i think you know and so they're going to have justice league and other things in the dc universe i think there are also having uh steven spielberg is coming with ready player one which is a you know a widely anticipated event i think and then either also going to have blade runner so i think you know those two are bringing maximum starpower and you know the walking dead game of thrones all those things are superpopular properties and i perennials inner getting the same fans coming back new year after year to see what's next for them honestly the one that has vaulted to the top of the list i think in terms of buzz for hall h is sunday afternoon bbc is having dr who and.
