Howard Stern Is All Doom and Gloom About MCU Debut

"Busy. Howard Stern is, well, look, he's let it slip recently that he could be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a doctor doom movie. I don't care about these movies. I don't watch marvel stuff. So I don't really know who doctor doom is in the context of the comics. But during the commercials on his show the other day, how it left his microphone on so they say, while he talked to his producer, Gary Della bate, about possible guests to book for the show. And it's kind of difficulty here because the ads are playing over the conversation. But Howard tells Gary Della boate that he won't be able to talk much in the next few months and then his co host Robin Quivers wants to inquire about, well, what's going on with you over the summer? Why can't you talk much? And he says, well, I'm going to do doctor doom. Then he said, but believe me, I'm F and miserable about it. How is miss Mitchell about anything? And then he continued to share that he reached out to the marvel comic universe people. He reached out to the marvel vet, Iron Man himself, Robert Downey, junior for acting tips. And he asked Gary if he could get the number to the director, John favreau and get his contact information. Now maybe hours less than enthused about the mystery project because he's more focused on what he also said he's going to do. And that is to run for president in 2024. Because after the Supreme Court overturned roe V wade, Howard said on Monday last week that he wants to run for president to overturn all this bullshit. I know Howard. I've been in that studio over a hundred times when the show is off and running commercials. That's when Howard is really Howard. The guy you hear on the radio during the show and the old days, especially, really wasn't Howard. That was a character.

I hear them playing in the background of our calls. I see them when we zoom. Why would they do that? Did you read the whole piece? I unequivocally reject scientifically and personally the notion that children are somehow doomed to an unhappy life, Kate marvel, a climate scientist at Columbia told me. This is a classic example of they send out messages that ruin people's lives and don't live by them themselves. You're in no way

"I'm back with actor and writer and producer Scott baio, Scott, we were actually talking about movie distribution and you said that you're looking forward to seeing 2000 mules tonight, even though you've seen some of the clips and things about it, I mean, this is a movie that we had to release in an age of censorship. And so our normal distribution, which is, you know, Amazon Prime and Apple iTunes. I'm like, I'm not gonna put the movie on these cancellable platforms. And so, I mean, we're in an industry movies, you of course have been all your life in movies that seems to be changing dramatically, doesn't it? Changing how. Well, because I think we're on the same page. Let's go ahead. Yeah, I mean, I mean in two ways, first of all, you know, I think back to when I came to America in the late 70s, early 80s. And there were just really good movies and by good movies, I mean they had plot, they had character, they had suspense. They had all the elements that make a movie. Now you have to sort of drag me to the movies because I find that those basic elements of storytelling seem to have been lost, so I mean, on the substantive side, but then I also mean that Hollywood has essentially become this kind of regimented one party state within a state. Yeah. Well, first of all, I think the movie business it's become a movie about tentpole movies, which is all the marvel movies and the big giant movies. It's hard for a small story. And I like marvel movies. I do. But it's hard for smaller movies to get any sort of attraction. In terms of television, it seems that they want to shock people into watching shows. And I can never understand that. I mean, you know, I grew up in a different time, I guess I was on television at a different time. There are, I would say a large majority of this country that really would like to see a good solid decent television

"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason. I've always tried to stay up on pop culture, even when it doesn't necessarily interest me. I can talk the Marvel Universe. I can talk the marvel movies, but I haven't watched many of them. I do this for my nieces, my nephews, and just because it's what I've always done. But when it comes to Pokémon cards, I'll admit, I don't understand any of it. My nephew will, who's turning ten, loves Pokémon. He and his friends trade cards at school. So for Christmas, we got him some card packs, and we just got him some for his birthday coming up. While I'm in the collecting and understanding that some cards are more valuable than others because of their exclusivity, I don't know the difference between a sword and shield pack or a fusion strike pack. I don't know what he's into, and that's what's frustrating to me. I want to get him what he wants, and he seems to be happy with whatever we get him. But I want to make sure he's getting the most bang for his buck. The most value. The most trade value. And I'll be honest with you. I look at these cards and they all look the same to me. I know their card games with kids understand. But at the same time, I finally found my match, something I just don't understand.

Yeah, they found some isolated spot with very few people around and then right by some poor unsuspecting soul who known ever going to believe then strut up and down in front of them wearing silly antennae on their head making deep beat noises.

Again, as was just confirmed, Russia admitted it. Putin's soldiers are shooting fleeing civilians, assured safe passage, dead in the streets. He's threatening to use nukes. Chris Coles Sees Jon Favreau as a Shining Beacon of Hope in the Woke Culture Wars

"So how do you feel? What are the prospects for something good happening in the culture war Chris? Well, here's the thing. I think that these things can not be forced. They just have to have a naturally. And I would say that look at something like The Mandalorian. They made they made Star Wars, Star Wars, the new Star Wars movies, which I just pretend didn't happen. But let's acknowledge the fact that they exist for a moment. They were just a disaster, right? And it was this leftist woke activism that ruined them. Then what's his name? Jon Favreau comes in, and he makes Mandalorian. Now, not a lot of people know about Jon Favreau. He was in the movie swingers when he was younger. Then he made the movie elf. The Christmas movie elf. And now he's done this Mandalorian. He's done a lot of stuff. He did he ended up creating essentially creating the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Iron Man. He made Iron Man. Right. And here's the thing a lot of people, I don't think know about John favreau. He has never stated his politics explicitly anywhere that I've seen. But based on who he's hired and based on how he writes, in my mind, he's clearly either a conservative or a strong libertarian. And nobody really knows that about him, but he's but he's been able to. But first off, but first off, he's a fanboy who loves and respects the legacy of the franchise or just a good story. It's not where it begins, Chris. Yeah, he's just a great filmmaker. He's a great storyteller. He knows how to do it. He's willing to ignore this woke ideology. And instead, just focus on making a good product. I think that you look back at films of the 80s and you say, oh, it's all white men. It's all masculine. It's got these terrible story. We've got to fix it. We've got to change it. But it's like these were successful for a reason and he looks back and he says, that was a great project. This was a great story. What can we learn from that? Instead of how do we reject it? How do we learn from it? And it goes and he produces things that people actually like and there's a reason why some of the best stuff coming out of Hollywood right now, if there is anything good, something like The Mandalorian comes out, it's because it's not something that rejects what has gone before, but it's something that embraces it, respects it and moves forward with new projects and that doesn't say, oh white men are evil and women are like the strongest characters in fiction. And he doesn't have to put all that stuff in. He can if it works for the story, but he doesn't for a woke

'Science and the Mind of the Maker' Author Melissa Cain Travis on the 'Maker Thesis'

"I am talking to the author of science and the mind of the maker with the conversation between faith and science reveals about God Melissa Cain Travis. We were just going to talk about something. You just mentioned it Melissa, tell us again. So the central thesis of my book science in the mind of the maker is something that I call them makers thesis. And this goes beyond the idea that science gives us evidence that points towards an intelligent creator. What I mean when I say the maker thesis is that when we look at diverse branches of the natural sciences, we actually see marks of rationality in all of these different areas of science. But in addition to that and corresponding to it quite beautifully, is the fact that we have inquisitive higher intelligent life on Planet Earth whose rationality is attuned in just the right way to be able to detect the rationality in. Okay, now I hate to break it to you, but that might make sense to you. And it might even make sense to me, but that's not easy what you just said, because I remember Hugh Ross, who introduced me to a lot of this stuff, when he was talking about this, I think it was on this program, like 5 years ago or something. I remember thinking like, that's a complex idea. So let's break this down. When you even talk about something that rationality, I think a lot of people go like, what do you mean exactly by rationality? I think it's a deep philosophical issue, isn't it? The bulwark goes to the movies and many other fine things. So sunny, you are not sending us to a band at palooza. I hope tomorrow. I hope you have something for us to see in the theaters. Well, we could talk about drumline. I feel like that is a band the band of palooza sort of movie, right? Well, South American park. Of drumming groups. So what's coming out? All right, so we are in that weird stretch where we have a marvel movie out that weekend before, which means that nobody wants to release a movie this weekend. Because nobody wants to compete in either of the first two weekends with the marvel movie. So in theaters, your options are a little bit light right now. But Netflix has not scared of marvel. Netflix is not scared of marvel. They are releasing one of their big blockbuster movies of the year this weekend. It's called red notice. They probably noticed any ads for it because they don't show ab but it is a big $200 million heist by way of Indiana Jones style movie. "Or send us a message on our Facebook page, which is Facebook dot com slash this week in marvel. Speaking of Facebook, we're going to go to community section. The first one I saw we got a message in from Lewis Tapscott, not on Facebook. He sent a question that we can't answer. But I just want to thank him for writing it. I see you Louis I recognize you and I appreciate you. Oh, that's nice. See Greek community here on the twin also wanted to give a shout out to Devon young, who was. He's he tweeted me about how he had to stop listening to one of our recent episodes because we were getting into war, the realms spoilers, and he wasn't caught up, but he loves the show, and he was checking to make sure. Or that this episode wouldn't have anywhere around spoilers. All right. Our next messages from Samuel laying, I'm not sure where to start with X men, I did some backtracking and red giant size, X, men number one days, future past and schism. What current ongoing would you recommend? I love iceman rogue storm and magic where to go. So this one falls in a little bit of a weird place because starting real soon, we're doing some wild stuff with the expert and retain starting over in a lot of ways with house vaccine powers of ten. It's a brand new story that is kind of like the perfect way to start coming up real soon with has extra powers of ten John Hickman Rb Silva, and Pepe. Laura's, the that team's going to do some really fun stuff. With experts so Samuel Icee. That's a great place to start. I would also if you love rogue rogue and gambit, or Mr. MRs X, great rates get clean storm. She's been in the pages of Black Panther. Other current book, not. It really. I mean, there's some of the age of X men stuff, but I like that's a great story. But to jump in right now you have to there's a lot to catch up on magic. I mean, the current uncanny x men, Ron which started with number one last year or year and change ago. That was really a good place to start. And also on the more female lead, X men team men number one by Brian would a few years ago would be a good place to start. Also got a lot of fun stuff on eleven is also a good jumping on point of what happened to the team. And you've got cyclops and ovary. Magic is in that book in go from there. But that's a good point like a lot of our stories are kind of wrapping up moving towards house evac. So hopefully that helps Samuel. All right. We also have a letter here from Mark Christopher. Oh, tasers by as I hope how you say it. My dream creative team is already assembled on the current run of captain America. I would give up an INFINITI stone. The Macron crystal and the cosmic. Cube and the Olten it notifier to have an avengers book written by Todd in the hoc- coats with art by lineal, you and covers by Alex Ross son bad idea. Also extra special shout. Shoutout Tila lineal. Just a couple years, one of the things that I love about it. Holistically is that there's something forever. You know, you see kids who only know the movies, and they'll come in and they'll look around and they'll be like the get up close to the art, and they're like you can see that recognition of other something so there's more here. There's something really cool and tactile to it, and it's really fun. And then we have the table so you can really deep, you have we have these like tables, where you're can house. A comic made the supply is script. This is lettering. You know, and the history and the unsung heroes and the you can learn more about early talent, and thanks so much for being on this week in marvel. Work offense, find you if they want to learn more. Welcome to the eightieth, folks. So you know, we're gonna start doing this every week. We've got a great database of stuff that's happened all throughout our eightieth history. Literally every day. Yeah. They're stuff. And so what we're gonna do is pull. Choice things not everything. This. I want to be very clear. This is inspired by a podcast that I love called thirty twenty ten which looks back at stuff in pop culture thirty twenty and ten years ago, and I asked Brett Elston who is a friend. He created that show. I said, hey, I'm thinking of doing something like that riffs off of thirty two thousand ten for marvel. Would you be cool with that? He said, yes. One hundred percent he would love that. So just give him credit Credit's due and he was cool with it. So off we go what we're gonna do Paul at these dates from the database. You know, it's gonna be births deaths. Debuts of characters or issues special releases movie releases television, all kinds of stuff because it's going to run the gamut of eight years, but we're gonna look at particular week. So basically starting from the Friday release of our episode through the Thursday, so full seven days, if you do want to know what happened on a daily basis, you can follow our social media channels for marvel and they're posting this day in moral history every day. So you go. There you go. That's all taken care of for. You love it. So some of the stuff I pulled from the database for the week of February first through the seventh. We have February fifth nineteen forty four the first live action marvel at uptight debuted which was the captain America movie series love it. It's wild years into things and boom were often running making movies making moving pictures. Then seventy years later is actually seventy years later to the day. Well, was does that mean that this previous item was trapped in ice? And then thought out seventy years later. Seventy years later on February fifth twenty fourteen we saw the debut of MS marvel aka Kamala Khan with the release of MS marvel number one by jewel Wilson, Adrian, I'll phone Indian Harring beautiful cover by Sarah, Kelly, like I Kana cover. Now, we look at it as just wild. And this is now gosh is five years five years. It's like five years for her seven years for miles. These I can't imagine more without them as point. So so now, we have MS marvel that is February fifth twenty fourteen and last, but definitely not least on February six nineteen Ninety-four marvel and the world loss Jack Kirby who passed away from heart failure at the age of.

"It was like almost like more direct panels and done in the grit style rather than having or onto elevated pants angel. Here has no problems about killing at all you mentioned in Germany in the back of the car, and he just chokes the guy I'm reading it. And I'm like, okay. So he's just choke. Oh, no. They say he's dead as angel mercilus angel also appeared in a story from a couple years ago of ours marvels project. Yes, was part of that. He showed up a couple of times. It's a punchy story. I actually really enjoyed the lettering. But he's he did send a note to the police chief or the mayor at the beginning saying he was going to take these people out. And I love that this. You know, I don't know if it was done for storytelling reasons, or whatever. But in the middle that he had to kill the six crime in the middle. He just gets a note that says boss number three's aren't dead. So just move on number works show. So good. The third story is the big one in my opinion. If features name more the sub mariner by Bill Everett Bill, ever, go on to co create daredevil zombie with Stanley the two of those but ever the more and more. I read these comics of the forties heads entails like at the top of the game. You can just see in the style alone in this. You know, it was really well handled. This story lays out stuff that we just think about name more today. It was so fleshed out this character him being the evenging, son. He's fast. He's brash. He's intense. Strength men. Yeah. Probably even more than that. At this point. Like what if things it's interesting over the years feels like name was just gotten stronger. No, which is great become one of my favorite characters. Over the years. We get the origin. His mom was a C woman. Not quite atlantia. No. That's an interesting thing to where she his back into Lantis. She hates the surface world six planes. How she if filtration the human race married the man, but never talked about the break-up or how she got pregnant or when Moore was born that's kind of just nicely. Skipped. PG PG PG, and this idea that he could have lived in either world and he does live in either world, but he fights for his undersea people. That's where he feels home carries through even today. We look at the vendors comics invaders comics that we're putting out right now. And you get a deep sense of that is with name more. Yeah. And I think in this story, we always tell new coming up show. Don't tell us your art to tell stories don't rely on the captions, and this was the one where I thought there was the least amount of lettering and name more had the most action. He let the action speak for itself, especially in the lighthouse scene where name came to the surface world and began as a tack, and you know, they're they really just let the stories and the sound effects. This one had the sound effects drawn in more. So than some of the other stories in marvel comics number one to really use art to the best of their ability to tell the story. Yeah. The gorgeous Everett's undersea people so weird. And it's just so cool. It's just like, oh, well, this is what they look like and that gives name or you know, he's got a. Of course, the eyebrows and the head shape he's that bridge between the two world. It's so so cool the coloring is really need real undersea. And you never know. Because what I found out was that this story wasn't rigid created for this magazine traded for another one. It was created for. I think it was called motion pictures funnies weekly or something correct motion picture funnies weekly. And it was a story. Those supposed to go in there that was giving away free and movie theaters, but they decided not to and it was only eight page story when they put it in here..

"Yeah. Fascinating. Look at these old stories and how they were just like, let's try this. And you know, just the storytelling itself the way that the panels really didn't work in the context of traditional storytelling. We know in today how they were arrows they were stacked in different ways you had to almost guide the reader visually through the story 'cause someplace it was really hard to make panel. You had to read. I what came after. Yeah. I was thinking about the I didn't think about it the way you just put it in. How what we do? What you guys do is so natural guiding someone's is is part. Part of the language of comic books and here. They're like just tell them to read this way. Because sometimes they go down instead of over. There was really was really interesting and amount of dialogue to it was like they were trying to find that balance. Especially when we get later in the issue, which we'll talk about there, some panels that were just text each was a caption. So, but in this one, you know, it was a fascinating story one. That's been retold numerous times over the years that we still acknowledge the origin that started here. Yeah. And part of the origin that stuck is professor Horton and like him being the creator. I found it interesting that the torch just person the flames when he touches air. They actually is very inventive storytelling tricks for how they use torch. But he's so innocent in this story because he's just born. The villains were such caricatures. You know, and it was funny. The the, you know, Marvel's the world outside your window. And they always, you know, tell stores are Dane age. But in here, too, it's like, you know, very heavy on gangsters racketeers as they were called here shows up so much like racketeers a real big thing. But here the racketeer who's the crime boss, also happens to be a scientific genius. And has a lab at his base. Does of course. But we we get torch. And he's he gets upset at burning things. He enjoys just wants to experience stuff, but he has no problem fighting back and really going to town and the way Burgos draws him especially in this one because I read a bunch of stuff in the forties over the last week or so the way Burgos stroz him in this issue is frightening like he draws him almost gleeful at times, and like, which is great, but close your eyes, and you imagine someone on fire comes at you. And they're just like smiling and they're like oh Hello dog. Just like what is happening is really. It's true. Because you know, you think about what this issue was it was a time where there weren't many superhero. Comics superhero, wasn't applied to to any of the stories in this book. And then it was a lot more. John restores you know, as we move into the forty fifties. So this was almost horror more so than anything else. It was supposed to evoke that kind of play on the fears of people about artificial life, and what might be out there. And, you know, scare the the the the real heroes of the day, the firemen and policemen who fought in the issue, really cool. I enjoyed it. A lot second story features the angel vigilante sort of folk hero, wiping out crime. It's by Paul Gustafson. And which is interesting about this. You mentioned how this book was put together Martin Goodman went. And he was basically like I wanna comic book, and he goes to a group who put together these stories, but all the stories are together. Mostly by one person writing are all of it. So it's real neat. How that's done. Paul Gustavson works on this one. And what's really neat? Here's we just jump into. A world is if everybody knows that the angel. And he's never really you. Don't really even fully see him in again, in that superhero way the introduction that we would normally think of you know, he slips into the back of a car. Nobody's these there. And he jumps down from a building again fighting with these racketeers and crime bosses who were taking control of the city, and again, a story where very word heavy, but the storytelling I found this one we think is a little bit more clear..

And also something we have to look forward to is. What is going to become of Billy Russo's face, truly madly deeply debt? Face. Got wrecked is Billy the Butte still abuse. Butte. I guess we'll find out then coming to net flix as well as Marvel's Jessica Jones season three. And I know you've been doing some stuff around. I went on a set. Visit. I can't tell you anything except that it's going to be super fun. It's we have reason to be excited for Marvel's Jessica Jones. Heck, yeah. We also have reason to be excited for Marvel's cloak and dagger season two, which we know is on the way and we have the teens dealing with some new stuff some really expanding on that first season. I think it's going to be a really neat on looking forward to seeing more of them and just setting different than like the vibe of that show. The look of it and their connection characters think is is really what crowns it for me should be pretty cool tone whole tone of that show is just so cool in different Marvel's agents shield season six coming this summer.
