On The Rekord
A highlight from Episode 122 - Sept. 17th, 2023 - B.A.N.S
"All right, all right, all right, all right. Welcoming you guys to another lovely episode of On The Record Podcast. I am DJ Intense, your host the most. And to the left of me, I have I am Walt. What's up, Walt? I'm about to say another word, my guy. If you guys heard earlier, you know, we were just doing some things off cameras. They're off the record. Things we don't, we're not going to bring on the record. And if we are, you're not going to get it. Unless you paid for it to Patreon. You know? Yeah, me too. That voice you hear right now, but there's no other than Ceddi said, what's up Ceddi? The infamous C -E -D. What's up people? How you doing people? I'm doing all right, I'm doing all right, man. You know, we took some time off. It was Labor Day weekend. Yeah. And then the final weekend, which is work weekend. Dude, we were work, work, work, work, work. Nonstop. Dude, I just figured they don't. Almost 90 hours of work. OT, OT. Man. One day was 20 hours of work. That's the state job. I can't wait till you quit that job. You and I both, brother. I need to make some money, but working like a slave ain't it, man? Nah. Bob Brock just said it. You think that you can get by with this hard work alone? Nah, you're fooling yourself. You're fooling yourself. Used to do that, but now you're doing that. It's a lie. It's a lie. It's a myth. All people is you do hard work, and you'll become a successor, that's all. Listen, reality is in this country, in America, you have to do a lot of grime. You gotta do a lot of collaboration. Depending on how you wanna do it, but most of the time, all those people who are billionaires and trillionaires are the ones who did the most foul -ish humanly possible to get what they're at right now in life. Listen, right now we're at over 180 days in the writer's strike and the actor's strike right now. And it could have ended this right now. This thing should have been handled already. $50 million for both unions. And now they're gonna get a loss of over $300 to $500 million because of this strike. And you have people like Drew Barrymore's punk ass. Well, she reneged on it though. She had to, because dude, she was getting the business with the WGA and the SGA. And it's separate, you know. Even... Bill Maher's bitch ass too, man, was... I didn't get the damn thing off the running. Was, oh, I don't need no writers, I'll be our show. Look, dude, your show sucks. The Seddie Swear Counter is in full effect. There you go, you have one. You can do like a ding sound from now on for my swears. I'm gonna keep it calm. I'm gonna keep it professional. Seddie the Sailor Man. I can't swish, come on. Listen, man, I'm just telling you, when Seddie get that spinach boy, man, we poppin' ice today. Oh, yeah. Little bird watch out. Now, but on some real issues, like dude, Bill Maher, the guy who said, I'm not a field n -word, I'm a house n -word, and who crapped on Stan Lee after he died and stuff, and says a bunch of other ridiculously retarded things, says he's gonna do a show. Stan Lee who? Marvel comic Stan Lee. Oh, Stan Lee, oh. That's what Bill Maher said. Yo, he be going extra heavy trying to relate to us blacks. You're a not house n -word. You're at the table, bro. You got the good chair. You got the good piece of chicken. He used to be down by the dam, but nowadays, man, it's horrible. He's just, you know, he's trying. What the legend Paul Mooney said, everybody wants to be black, so it's time to be black? Listen, you think Paul Mooney is trying to be black and competent? Hell no. I want to be in a gated community area. What's wrong with you? Like he says, everybody wants to be black. He listen to King Koon, so he know what that's about. Yeah, but Bill Maher is doing his show still, which I think it was crap with writers. It's going to be crap about writers. And then, you know, you're going to have to hire writers who are not non -union writers. We're going to be scabs. We're going to pretty much destroy their any chance of them getting actual work when the strike is done. If you get caught. Well, if you are what you say you are, then have no fear. Even if you're on YouTube and you want to get a chance of being in the industry, you can't do no reviews. No, no movie reviews, no TV show reviews, nothing. There's a strike. You doing that? You will be known and accounted for when you want to get your membership. And trust me, you don't want those problems. But my thing is, if there was already YouTubers like successful already doing movie reviews and being credible and stuff like that, that won't affect them. Is it already locked in like a partnership or whatever with certain movies? Then they could do it. As long as they get the permission from their respective union. OK. If they do something brand new, if we're coming out with The Exorcist coming out next week, they can't do no review for that at all. Oh, wow. Wah wah. Listen, I can't go into it because I want to become in that union because I want to be a voice actor. You want to sell out. I get it. So I can't speak on it at all. No, no, no. He's not selling out. No, he wants to. He wants to. No, he doesn't want to sell out. You want the Disney money. No, I want to buy in. He wants to buy in. Oh, yes. You want to buy in, you got to sell out, right? No, the license is fucking me, bro. I'm just saying. The license, the thing to get a SAG card, it's over $3 ,000 to get a SAG card. And you have to get that SAG card in order to get some work and residuals and all that stuff. That's just what it is. Listen, man, listen, Harvey Weinstein's in prison, bro. He can't get to you, my guy. He can't get to you, my guy. Listen, man, don't take that hotel meeting, bro. Am I Rose McGowan? Shoot it. It's either a Zoom call. I'm actually Judd. It's either a Zoom call or a posh Beverly Hills restaurant or a Permell Studios, wherever that super creep was out here making his rounds. But you don't got to worry about that no more. Filthy behavior. One of the girls was saying like, yeah, when I said no more hanky panky, you know. He felt a way. Yeah, you want that rolling letter to there, don't you? My guy, how could he feel a way? You've been imposing your will on these ladies for a long time. Speaking of entertainment, you had a concert this weekend, right? Yeah, yeah. I was, you know, I was like. This guy was really outside. I was like, I was like, I was like. What concert was this? I was like. Let me tell you. Go ahead, say it. I was like from the acting sheriff up north, back to back out here, you know. Yes, so for all the first time, longtime listeners, and you know, last time listening to how evidence goes, I had a couple of shows. This past Thursday, I went to an event that was sponsored by Spotify for up and coming artists. I saw three, three very, very talented artists. The main artist I went to see goes by Kamari. He's an artist that I discovered around COVID. He has a lot of like influences. He reminds me of like a Frank Ocean. He's really that, you know, artist type dude. And he put out this great, incredible album called A Brief Nirvana, which I advise everybody to check out. His name is Kamari, K -H -A -M -A -R -I. Highly recommend him. And I also saw these two other artists from the UK, St. Harrison and Elmin. That's my boy. And overall, it was a great experience, very, you know. It was at SOB, Sound of Brazil in New York City. Very intimate setting, great turnout, great energy.

And because we are so preemptive in this strike, we were able to avert many tragedies, and we know that from having gone through countless snowstorms, not all of this magnitude, but many very serious in the past. Hulk also says she was doubling the amount of New York National Guard members in Erie county to help with snow removal, as well as signing a request from federal reimbursement through a federally emergency disaster declaration. "Guardians of the Galaxy, they did a callback to Howard the duck talking alien. That's kind of cool. But that's actually in the comics and marvel character. Yeah. So, and they also made some weird choices with Christian Bale as gore in the God butcher. At the beginning, I was like, okay, I get it. I'm on board, and then some of the end parts of the character. There was a scene in the middle that based on his character at the beginning, didn't make any damn sense. He was all over the place. It was just like, it feels like Taika Waititi has gotten a little bit too drinking his own Kool-Aid thing and he can do no wrong. And this was just an nobody giving him notes and being like, hey, we need to pair this back. Yeah. Again, the parts with Natalie Portman as Jane foster, when she was doing dramatic stuff, was great. But they've even said that there is a ridiculous amount of stuff that wound up on the cutting room floor with a whole other characters, I guess Peter was supposed to come back as the dwarf that forged the stormbreaker, the hammer, and Lena Headey from Game of Thrones was supposed to be in there with them. And then Jeff Goldblum as the collector was supposed to have another cameo. Yeah, because it was just under two hours. It was a short, it was a short marvel film. And I was like, oh, okay. Which I welcome that. I was okay. I was okay with it too, but they tried to cram in way too much. It was a two hours. There were winking at the audience too much. And pat themselves on the back. Yes. And this was and there was, again, Natalie Portman said she had a bunch of scenes with tes Thompson that had more of their friendship. So you could see how they got to the friendship that you see on screen. Yeah. But they're like, well, we lost some of that on the cutting room floor. There were more scenes together. That's what it felt like this film was missing. It was missing some of the scenes and half of the jokes that they made could come out. For me. Yes. It was too much of, again, a celebrity in the middle of it that they were just making, I don't want to say making a mockery of that I was that anger, like, oh my God, I can't believe you. It was just too much. Went a long way. I think when we were walking out, I said, you know, we were talking about like the face, whatever phase four, whatever it is, and it was like, you know, the one thing I say about this film is I don't think this film was directed or made for people in our age group. I felt like it was a made for a younger generation because it was like during the credits I go, was this PG-13? Because it feels PG-13 big time. Like it was like, even that final battle sequence. And it was like, okay, I feel like they're trying to go for some type of younger generation. It was like those classic Disney movies where it's cute and funny, but there's those innuendos for the adults, which I was like, is that what I'm watching right now? I'm watching a film that's made for the younger kids. Yeah, it's made for younger kids. And there's these other lines in here that are made for adults. But I was like, I don't know what this who they're even actually going after in this film. Who's your target audience? It sure as hell ain't marvel fans.

"His own interesting thoughts. That he you know could share some of which he probably couldn't share because public relations and whatnot do The structural set on him that were worrisome. For at least all side of things which are reflective on the dc side as well. I guess i'll say this man That is marlin dc. They often imitate one. Another and Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it kinda does both in the case of dc is what it feels like if for some reason all these big companies that have like a rival big company or all kind of doing shit like that Great example windows microsoft do recent update makes all their computers. Look and feel more. Like max like literally like i've showed line right. The fuck is everything. Looks just like my mac. Now you know as marvel dc. No different is like bernie longtime listeners. You guys are probably heard me say that one of the shittiest eros of marvel comics happened in two thousand fifteen at the rewards and they got rid of the six one six universe universe and they took pieces from both and combined into the marble. Now universe we. We got a face car marvel now which then became all new are different marvel and that was just really quick. That was a phase immoral when they replaced all the alexi characters with newer d'arvor she's knockoffs. Oh excuse but the reason they were cheap. Knock all because they were the same shit. Would just a pallet swab and it was basically like unlocking a new skin and a video game and and their own yeah and In all new all different failed miserably. But i remembered ultimate because actually had some cool shit and i remember marvel now briefly but i forget about all new all different. That didn't last long no didn't It feel terribly. I remember one of the head honchos and marvel comics identity to say when asked about the The the decline in the comic sales had the identity. I guess our readers don't like diversity completely missing the point that readers have a problem with that i if we did have a problem with diversity than so many excellent female characters like storm. Jean grey sidewalk. She hoke i go on and on bat girl a so many of these icon one of these iconic bits and so many of these iconic women characters. I can do this. Holiday would never gotten over so many awesome black. Carriages would have never sold back in the day. There's always been diversity and inclusivity and comic books is just the weather that was presented then was a more soda way. They made them more like people who beyond the sexuality xactly. I mean dude dude or the gender or beyond the color there will beyond that the basic shit like more than just what they looked externally or how they acted externally or how they felt emotionally sexually external so great example. And this will always be like a part of the discussion to especially in that case..

Your Kids Aren't Safe Consuming Tom Taylor's Comic Work
"You've never heard of Tom Taylor either Tom Taylor is a writer for the new Superman comic book To new Superman comic book And he's very proud of what they're going to be doing with Superman now Isn't Superman Marvel Comics are my wrong about that D.C. I'm sorry DC Comics That wouldn't be marvel That's right And I think what this will demonstrate is your kids aren't safe watching anything They're reading anything You got to be very careful what you introduce them to The sky Tom Taylor is on CNN Why Because CNN likes what he's going to do What's he going to do Well let's listen Here's Tom Taylor Cut 18 go And I think the first question I had to ask myself was what does Superman what should Superman represent today And you said man if you're going to make a new Superman what should that look like And it struck me as it would be a real opportunity lost if we had another We had clock Kent replaced by another straight white savior So here was an opportunity to create a Superman who could represent a whole new group of people And I think that was one that we had to leave them And we'll be addressing modern day issues like The climate crisis like refugees John in the last issue has just been arrested attending a protest trying to stop the refound of asylum seekers He kept us 45 minutes of hard time is how he puts it But as a stand it's a very powerful thing Is it Superman going to be bisexual did I hear that too mister

"There was no 6 feet there. That hole was pretty shallow. With the help of a crow acro. Cacao. So he goes back to their apartment and relives the moments of his death and seeing her hurt and so then he decides, he's going to use his newfound abilities can regenerate health. He's invulnerable that way. He kind of seems to get some kind of strength, super strength. For Brandon Lee, they really didn't do a lot of martial arts in this. There really wasn't a lot of he just took a lot of bullets. He really, they don't really get too hardcore and his abilities. So he goes after each of the group that had attacked him and his girlfriend leading up to the big fight with the big bad. When he finds out that, you know, this was all. A plot basically from an overriding villain. In between there, things happen. He needs already Hudson, who was a cop that he kind of investigated that originally. There's a child in there for some unknown reason. She just kind of hangs out and really doesn't add even she's not even an anchor really. Like if she wasn't in the movie, it wouldn't have made it different. There was no 100% agree. Yeah, there was no reason for her to be in the movie. We did learn that onions give you fire. That's true. And they're really bad. She does give that she does give that sage advice to her and he has the only thing she does add is that she gets kidnapped at the end, which again they would have drawn him out anyway without kidnapping her. I think it could get kidnapped Ernie Hudson at that point. Yeah, yeah. So that is kind of the synopsis of the movie. He gets his revenge, she finds out all these things. And then they kind of live happier in the afterlife is what kind of shows up and she's a ghost. So anyway, I hope that helps to give a quick synopsis. Yeah, so it's good. Good job. I vote that Chris does that every episode, no matter what the movie. Because at first, I thought it was going romantic comedy. I know. He's like, Aaron and Shelley are preparing for their big day. But little do they know that fun boy in the game? In a world where Eric and Shelley are planning the perfect wedding. By the way, can I point out the book that was in her drawer when he went back and like dug into it was spring bride and then we're gonna get married on Halloween. It should have been fall right. That's right. So I'm just gonna ask my question 'cause I'm really curious. Do you consider the crow a superhero movie? Sure. And I say sure because if you are coming from a comic book perspective, almost every comic book has some type of superhero element back then. Now this isn't talking about manga or anything like that. You know, Marvel Comics has a hero, DC Comics has a superhero. So sure, that's my thought..

Podcasting Q&A
Podcast Marketing: Turn your podcast listeners into an army of promoters
"Let's talk about a few tips and strategies to use word of mouth marketing for your podcasts. The first is to create something buzz worthy so the thing about word of mouth marketing is it needs to be organic so people are going to be talking about it. You actually want them to want to talk about it so here. Few ways to make your podcasts. More buzz worthy. The first way is create amazing content. So you wanna have a podcast. That sounds amazing. it's easy to follow. The has some sort of structure and flow. That's actually worth engaging. The second thing you want to do is niche down. This creates a more unique podcast. So instead of maybe having podcast simply about all comic books i've ever existed. Maybe you pick. Dc comic books over marvel comic books in that is helpful. Because when someone falls in love with your podcasts about this specific thing immediately have someone in mind that they would want to share that with also love your podcast and then the last thing is don't be afraid to bring your entire self your entire personality to the space because nobody can replace you. And there's something unique about the flavor of you that people will be drawn to as they listen to your podcast. The second strategy for using word of mouth as a marketing tool is to reward and encourage conversation right so word of mouth should be an organic conversation that people are engaging and because they want to. So how do we get them to want to well. The first thing you can do is provide incentive for them sharing on social so if you get tagged in a picture that a listener posts about them listening to the podcast engaged in iraq like it. You can share it in your stories that way. They feel as if they are participating in the podcast experience with you and they'll be more likely to continue to do that. But also on their followers are now aware of your podcast and that to interact with your listeners. At that level you can also ask them to provide reviews. They can review your podcast on apple podcasts and that works social proof as well and people are checking out your podcast they see. Oh sara love this podcast. I might leave it to the last thing you can do in the call of action of your podcast at the outer space is asking people to share it. And you don't want to be generic you want to be super specific so if you know someone else who loves dragon ball z and likes to nerd out about that. Share this podcast episode with the goal of being super specific in niching down in that way to bring to mind a specific person or people to the listeners. Mind so that they immediately go and share your podcast episode with whoever they think would also enjoyed dragon ball z.

He's he's still a straight up about the money he he doesn't really care balanced kind of he owes a debt to haunt solos. I i think he's doing it more to kind of save han from getting turned over to the huts. Which an interesting thing they never tell you how long he was in that carbonite before they busted him out of jobless powell so You know the us showed you boba is He's had a couple of things happen. That's going to lay to the huts. And now you've got dangoor balanced trying to track him down and next thing you know you've got Some four mom dropping out hyperspace right behind him and saying hey they're looking for somebody incaviglia some Female incaviglia supposedly balanced those. Were there at where she's at. She's not on the ship and you know he's not turned over. He's just trying to evade them. Ding are will upset. He's like Give up let's get on with this. He doesn't want to then a flashing back into dangerous past Dangoor turned out. You know he. He actually was an imperial cadet. That's how he met hans solo. Then he had he has issues Mostly calm cyborg now and turn bounty. Hunter he's not a. He doesn't follow the bounty hunter code though. He's kind of an affirmed. Self he he will still bounties from other people. This is just him all. He cares about So anyway four long and zukas. Are you know shooting them down the pretty much. Their ship disabled they try to hide. An asteroid field didn't work so dang gar doesn't wanna die so he he hits balance over the head two mile and He's he's only give. He's trying to tell me. They want that girl. He says you're she's not on the ship but i have some better information for you. Know you tells you about Boba fett has on solo. If we take them from big bounty mammals split flash back again and you see balance is working with this other group to take out a target. He doesn't with the target is and low behold boom. It's mr so low and chewy and you know he tries to stop them from from shooting because they had dead rights team is getting ready to take a walk into the bathroom balcony. Take off He's kind of stops until phil got a couple of shots off and balances stopping the other guys from taken out on but Han doesn't really see that while he sees is when the dude flips balance off of the the hiding place where they're at you know he lands near han on season was like dude. What's up we were friends. You know i saved your life while you shoot naming. And he's getting really upset. Chew drags him onto the falcon and The falcon takes off and balances. Like no it's not it. I was coming after you I'm explaining takes off. Flashes back again is balanced in danger in the confident. Whatever ship ps. And and that's when are telling four lauman's lucas. About the information. Toba have hans solo in carbonate gonna go get some some big bounty ducats. And they're they're all cool with it pretty much until everybody and the none. The last last thing you see is on any shows boba here with slave one and so now you know what was going to have a ton more people after him Shawnise issue balanced fighting with. I'm guessing that chewy that looks like julius mobility slung over his shoulder You know it's hard to tell but it looks awful. I you know in the se through june background. I'm being led to believe that's that's chewy. It's probably upset. Novell's taking potshots at on weight. Bodybuilding potshots on really. Trying to. So you know as a as far as tie ins go not a. Lotta of brewers lot of backstory for balancing Han solo's relationship. I guess you take so know it is. It does bring balanced more into the mainstream. I mean he's had his couple stories about him and some of the other books. I don't know what now that he's in here is. Gotta be cannon If you if you don't know whenever disney purchase star wars from leukemia for an exorbitant amount of money. He said everything from know that was in the movies. And everything and going forward is going to be candid. But if having before sledge's his legend. It doesn't necessarily mean that it's true doesn't mean it wasn't true either just has been Put into canada yet. So now we have a balance.

"This'll is all things considered from NPR news. I'm Sasha Pfeiffer, the rapper MF Doom, whose real name was Daniel Doom away and who died last fall at age 49 war, a large metal face mask on stage. It was reminiscent of Marvel Comics. Doctor Doom. He's comic book parallels didn't stop there. In true superhero fashion. MF Doom was a prolific collaborator. Just before he died. He teamed up with the rap supergroup czar face on an album called Super What? It's Finally out now. Yeah, this is esoteric from the mighty czar face. We're turning this into MPs are for today and peas are get it. Yeah, that's the rapper esoteric. He's a member of czar face and told us how MF Doom brought superhero sensibility to his music dome was a villain, right? It's our faces is more like the anti hero. So you have a superhero supervillain Super. What, And one thing I want to stress about Doom is when way made that first record we wanted to call it's our face versus metal face. But he wanted to call. It's our face meets metal face. You know, he didn't want to look at it in battle. He wanted to look at it as a team up. Hip hop. It's always man, First man who body who and all that type of stuff he wanted to take it in the direction of us working together. Did you know that was very relieving for me to hear? Okay, Sole Surviving. Do soak a knob and never stopped driving. Don't let them supplies you when you're driving. Might even think you're talking about him when you Rahman wanna keep Julian the line and.

"Be killed by the police. Go vague ear right in superheroes which in the marvel comics. Superheroes is reflecting the world outside your window because marvel likes to say. Hey you know. We're the convicts company that addresses these kinds of things where you know. That was one of their big slogans back in back in the day that staley liked to consider marvel the the world outside your window and so when when these tv shows these marvel comics tv shows. I might stress are doing that. I think that you kind of need to appreciate why that's happening. And if you do have a problem with it you need to. I think probably should do some self exploration about why you have that problem. I'm right with you. I do think some so searching required from these individuals who feel this way not to mention if you want. tv shows to be more sophisticated russia's the way you go if you just want to kind of ignorant dumb kind of series of people fighting yeah slice. Vela's slugfest exactly. How do you expect this genre to move forward to be recognized at a higher level if you don't su dress like this also. I didn't think they were particularly preachy. Either i've seen some breaches shows. Believe you me you and i actually to knock on tangent charles for you and i watched penny dreadful city of angels right and you felt that was excessively preachy. A little bit a little bit. I know that there's some criticism of supergirl because that's show can really get up on the soapbox down then blatantly so but here i mean this subject matter that was addressed. Here you know in this episode has been addressed throughout the previous episodes. Exactly it all. This is just a culmination of that. This is where it's brought to. Its climax in the story. And you know. A very transitional. Moment for sam wilson so. I don't really get you knew that going in. Why are you suddenly so upset about it. Now unless you're just upset that again that a black man is captain america. Now i as i mentioned. I just think it's people being bought sore about where everything's been happening..

"Welcome back to another dish. Talk to me. I'm your host choice. Stagner got some more reviews for he before again. Those reviews hey go. Subscribe to our channel man. It really helps metrics at while. You're there hit that bill icon. You'll be known about every. Don't we put up a new art our new video all right. Let's start with We did the number one for this last time. number two came out and i read it carnage carnage number two carnage Black white and blood by blood carnage. So yeah i read it. it's If you remember issue one had more than one story in this did also is like they're putting a couple of short stories in each issue so and it has some guests writers no arguing. Who's doing immortal hulk right now. I think he did one of the stories in here. And it's it's chemical carter stories just like the other ones this on the three stories. Yeah carnage shark mired. Hands and my name is carnage the first one of their their advertising for this new title. It looks like a new character reptile. We'll see we'll see that anyway carnage starts out of i guess carnage in this story. He somehow escaped to the ocean. Kinda took over. I guess a great white As you can see pretty badly carnage. Great white shark carnage. Shirk are shark salsa shark. Yeah you know the these guys will vote. Thought they'd cost on the big. Though it was carnage. She came up and pretty much went through them all. But then you know. He gets tossing back overboard and I'm guessing these are a bunch of venom simulator clones or. He's split himself nothing. So you know he goes down and it just came with him fading to black with all the venom stuff. Taking over the red for carnage that story. I was kinda different toward. I didn't really strike if if it had been stanley don't think i would like to In this second story the was noticing on my red hands. Not a story he you know. Little kid Step dad is kind of abusive abusive drunk abuse of him and his mom. There's a symbol revenue this closet. Yoke monsters inc style comes out and talks to the kid you know tells him. Originally the kids scared. Then you know he does talk. He talks a kid into his dad. Comes into. i'm guessing obedience. Some more abusive drunk do the cbo kind talks him into killing dude and The next next panel you see he's running out with blood-stained hands and trailing blood out. He goes out to the farmhouse and for some reason. I haven't connected yet. i don't understand. He has spiderman all up and You know the kid has hasn't he's trying to talk to kill spiderman he he doesn't want to do it by ramp. Pops loose and just really lays into carnage and kid kind of backed off kids. I don't wanna kill as well to be left alone as whiting. Take care of the stepdad. So we don't understand what's going on and then it ends dummy. I understand the short stories but they have some really abrupt endings and they leave. You really love me. Maybe i'm just not that bright. Leave me with a lot of stuff unexplained in my mind. The third story which is the. My name is carnage. Listen to that Would the my name is. My name is my name is slim shady anyway. His name is carnage. These guys are out there. Hunting for in the go back to indonesia supplies they keep saying this is supposedly a mosser will foggy monster or something but it was really just carnage going through and you know. He's killing her by the end of one hundred thousand. Hey i'm not going to kill kilian tireless other volume kinda taking yours and then he stalks off into nowhere for me. I didn't care for it. Oddly the person like i told you was okay. I was going to give it another shot. with the mobile stories in it. It's not really a story as disa- collection of short stories. That seems some. The short stories are good smart. And it's just a it's like they're trying to catch the i think they. They're getting a release love death up in rockets season to it. You know something. Like that kind of black. Mary episodic almost horror type stories all involving carnage. You know i i. I don't know if it's just me you guys might like it. I told you what those three stories and issue are about. None of them really held my interest for more than a few seconds. And then got to the end i was just met about. I'm really different though. Expect to see a review for carnage black white red number three next week because i had to power through reading it man. I just couldn't stay interested in it. S saying a lot sense of the short story. I actually like spiderman characters. So if you if you really big short horror story type things that this might be right up your this is basically it. Is i think the first one had two stories in it This number do has three not bad. Stories i like more of a continuing storyline. I don't short stories are good and they have a place. I i don't like i it especially when they don't really follow it i. I'm a big stickler for comics trying to follow cannon. Stay true to the characters. i just don't fill. That's what's going on with this. I think just a bunch of horror stories that they grow and they threw carnage in. Is the monster in all of them and made a fit. Take you for what you will. That was carnage black white and blood. That's my take on it. If if you like that type of stuff and you know to each their own different strokes pick it up is just something i like so i'm probably not going to review number three next when it comes out. So sorry guys. And that is my review for carnage black white and ludi number two if you like that review if it held utah Subscribe man like i said earlier. It helps with the demographics atalla and go. Tell your tell you freeze your family. Tell your mom tell your dad subscribe and tell them to hit that. "Welcome back to another edition of talk nerdy to me. I'm your host troy stater. I am going to ask you before i do this review. Please subscribe to this channel man. It really does help. Helps us tremendously with the metrics and hit that bill icon to be notified whenever we put up a new video. Now that's out of the way. I want to show you the next comic. I'm going to reviewing for march thirty first. It is far. King and black ghostwriter kind of remind joe the we meet bat outta hill. Cover there if you haven't been keeping up with ghostwriter man dude has been through some stuff Before the events in here he actually took over the throne in hell. He was yet. Modesto kicked him out. Don't wanna to it long story. It wasn't there Ghost rider johnny blaze. Ghost rider sits on the throne as king of hell his brother half brother danny which bench mitch becomes a he takes over the mantle of necrosis. He doesn't like the name of crisis. We changed it to death rider because his words. He's a fist. The branding better ghostwriter death writer. You gotta point. Danny when you're right you're right so anyway. This picks up ghostwriter first page. He's dragging the fist around I'm guessing new york. He's dragging browse some city new york. 'cause he's trying to find lilith lilith is trying to overthrow johnny ka. She wants to rule hill. It seems like most of the demons in hell aren't real fond of johnny either. So you know. He's he's out he's trying to find lilith. He's dragging a dragon. Olma fist around on chains on china sea. I don't think is show that on the cover. But as he's dragging him around looking for lilla They both notice. Hey is it normal for dragons. Be flying around. York answer is no no. It's not so these. Are the king of black tie in the simba dragons. He tries to get the catches one tries to give it. the old penance. Stare damnation stare in it. just custody. He realized it felt an awful lot like venom that that feel. I guess And he he remembers trying to do the on a minute. It hurt him just as bad as her venom. Same thing happens you know. He's he's stairs. This symbol down with the penance. Stare in hurts him to simulate falls into a puddle. They fall to the ground. The didn't kill. It just didn't seem to hell either. He just slowly regrouping. And by that. Time johnny's brother danny who's now death writer and he he's palling around with blackheart who is believe son of physio and caretaker. They came to help. Johnny and in good time to because all the demons that were escaping from hill All but a big bunch of showed up the symbiotic started to them and daly's Danny's got a blade takes care of them. Also so you know they. They make short work of demons in some Some of the symbol dragons. And they're trying to tell johnny. Hey you need to come with us so we take care of all these symbiosis takeover new york because Ghostwriters whole thing is. He wants to punish those who did wrong. And save the innocent well north of new york committee attack by a bunch of dragons. They're pretty innocent in the dragons and that's more important than ruling and health so he strikes a deal with fiscal and blackheart. The you the hill let me go back and take the throne with blackheart at his side so that they they fought fiscal numerous times. They're always fighting with isto. And it's just like daddy said it's better to fight the devil you know they'd have no clue what little can-do or has sleep so mefissa Back the hill and rule and take care of all the stuff going on down there especially with lilith and ghostwriter takes off with his brother and the caretaker to try to stop the null simulates. You don't see noll at all inherit just symbiosis in this issue so I've not been a real big ghostwriter fan in the past. But i i like some stuff. They've been doing with him recently. I mean you got a couple of new ghost writers. Now he had the old old one from back in the bbc times got Was a daily raise. The what the hell charter. He has the car now. I believe they made him ghost rider. Not just a demon anyway this ghost rider. Danny his brother. Danny has been ghost rider and johnny has been ghost rider working together. They were working together to rule hell but now they're trying to work together to save new york from null simulates pretty good. Pretty distorted story At least me wanting a little more can't wait for number two. I wanna see Like to see all this king black stuff get tied up nice and neat. I hope marvel doesn't draw it out too long. Let's let's let them take care of. Null sent back to clint during get imprisoned in the middle of the planet again Knoll was a. I was intrigued with him when he first came out. You know awhile back now. I'm just kinda indifferent towards knoll. The symbiosis and symbiosis have been played out quite a bit swayed Though the new life model decoys marvel universe but this one. I really liked the love. The i like stories about the cold and businesses and stuff like that so ghostwriter right up my alley with the the recent things i've been done with him. I'm kinda opened. They team up with doctor strange. Hit new york. That would be kinda cool but this one is a I put it on the maybe pile. If you're big into ghostwriter type stuff you're gonna like this if you're not maybe skip this one If you're not big into the go shredder lor Him takeover hill probably not going to mean much to you The only action. Here's him dragging fist around and fighting a couple of silvio. It's not not a lot but they are ended up for something more there. You have ghostwriter number one. I liked it. Put her on your. I think anybody can put it on. There may be less than be happy with it. would be mad about picking this jerk like king black series. This is one of them so pick it up. If you like ghostwriter if not in you know don't pick it up as you have the spare money so you won't be mad about buying so that was my review of shutter number one until Next week before. "Welcome back to another dish. Talk very to me. I have some comic books. Review for you. Guys 'cause congregate new company. Let's start with a beta ray bill. Betari bill Started out in door. If he didn't know he was one of the few people who is worthy to pick up me. Owner meal over ordinal beta. Ray you know. His his people the corporates Were trying to flee searcher the big fire. God that you saw in raga rock the movie So they they made him they're the racists hebrew They kind of altered him made him a camera. Cyborg that's why it has the horseface. His the nice usually don't have the horseface they have a pretty nondescript normal face but You know part of the process of turning him into their champion They made like this. They were he was supposed to guard them while they were in their cry. Oh deep sleep or whatever trying to find a new home which eventually did find. I find out later. He's not the only ray either. There's an alpha ray omega ray. Probably a few others. I don't remember but this focuses on beta ray beta ray bill Like i said there. They're ship the scuttle but which is also a an a i. I guess sentient type thing. That's always with him. Every weapon or technology he uses has scuttle butt and he's able to contact and tim to scuttle but anyway the ship came to close to nick. Fury saw he sent for up to investigate. Thor went up and got his bud handed to a pretty handily. That's the first time the battery picked up milner and he he wanted to claim it as spoils of war odin was a happy new odin forced it and that's odin boy door so he brought them to a there. Were supposed battle. Death on star heim With embiid kind of had advantage there because the lavin stuff didn't affect him He ended up. He ended up open four again and it was supposed to be the death. But i'm not gonna kill my son. But you know what i will do. I'll make your own enchanted sword storm breaker which he did pretty much. It's almost just like milner But it was an forbade array bill if you kept up recently. Thor has taken over as taken over. Owns gone so thors now the all father. They got some kind of disagreement. Thor broke storm. Breaker not good. It was kind of a dick move. Thor was busy on earth with the king of black knoll. And during that time Beta rebuild state up in asgard him in sift kind of have a little fling going. She likes his human form of course The they're pretty heavy himself but while he's up there then thank food. Who has one of the city's because you can tell he's been boom in braces. The walls asgard. He's black and he's got the little carnage circle looking thing on his head Betari doesn't have storm breaker. So you know he's having difficult time woven boom who is an old marvel villain. If you haven't read. I believe fantastic. Four gotta start. He works a lot with doctor. Strange mystical type stuff anyway. Thor shows up last. Minute of course saves asgard Uses mueller to strengthen with some lightning kinda takes battery off. You know then they have. Everybody loves the story. he's their chosen. Golden boy they have a big party for him. Badar as kind of sulking because he you know he every time he tries to do some doors. Senate takes the glory Social point at the end you know he himself. We're gonna go back to the room and she's a case which you're huma for me like i can't Either the storm breaker do that. The storm breaker as she kinda got hesitant in. So he's a yeah. I understand he's gonna mirror. I have horseface. So he goes out. He tells scuttle but his ship to prepare to leave and they're going to go he authorities stop him. He's like look man. You're always Stealing my glory They really like you here. Not me you broke my heart. I'm going to take off and try to find myself. Maybe find odin get him to make me a another storm breaker and that's where it leaves office. He's getting ready to board the ship the scuttle by so i mean a lot of and gives a little bit of backstory on. How beta came about You know he was chosen as a child they. They modified him and he became the champion their hero. Whatever and you know up to this point. So i mean this is a really good battery. Bill is always been a great character. Believe you saw his face on the grand master's tower in ragnarok ragnarok. Yeah was writing a rocky. He's he's one of the champions you see on the tower. The faces emblazoned on her. So yeah battery bill. I definitely i like where this is going. This is very I highly recommend any four or battery. Bill fans you're really liked. This gives you not a real deep dive into his history. You know it tells you a little bit about how i'm sure Other issues for the issues are going to give us more background on that so all in all battery number one i give it definitely. You should definitely reduce. It is a very good book. And i can't wait for number two. I've always been beta. Ray bill fan. I don't think he's ever gotten his. Do i hope he does find. I hope odin bills him and even better hammer storm breaker because damaged for. Why why would you bring anyway. Beta as they rebuild number one highly recommend. Please subscribe to this channel. If you like this video. It does help us with the metrics. Help us to do more videos like this one. "As a longtime comic book reader in a longtime x. Men fan is you cannot anticipate what's coming no I can i can extrapolate based on how i know storytelling to work. Based on what i know of the history of these characters but time and time again hickman is yeah has given us a left turn. We're expecting to grow and repair ball. And it's it's very very fun. I i love being able to read comic and not necessarily know what's coming sure. Sometimes i get a thrill of the opposite. Sometimes i'm reading comic. And i'm like i know exactly where this is going. Goes that way your largest all zito coolest. Exactly what. I thought when i pick up an x. Book any any x book under hickman. I do not know where it's going and it's it's kind of exciting. It's it's really really fun. I have kept up with hellenes since the end of ten of swords. Because how could you not. It's so very good. I have not been keeping up with all the others. I've got them all my have them sitting on a stack next to my bed. But i just have not gotten a chance to to sit and read those yet Because i've been reading the high republic from star wars. Uh which maybe we'll talk about But that definitely put all of my ex reading on the back burner wanted to mention. I know we've talked about an off. Mic so i want to get john wrote about was professor xavier on predictions. Gosh professor x is evil. He's evil he's a bad guy he's so evil he's the most evil evil guy who's ever evil evil. I look i will put money on it. Even if in the story. He's not specifically ever revealed as a villain professor xavier from house of x. number one has been a villain. He is the antagonised. He is the villain. He's the bad guy like the. There's no there's i can't even. It's not even ambiguous anymore he's the villain they've been even. I read some commentary. As they're like the council as a whole has been asking everybody else to do a lot of pretty shady stuff and is the catalyst behind a lot of. He's he's the bad guy you guys end. Maybe he's got a reason for it but you know who else had reasons apocalypse. He's gone now so do you. What do you think about the council because we have three seats that it now what. What do you think's gonna happen their predictions or what do you want. I think is going to manipulate it. So he gets whoever he wants on the counts okay. Because he's going to be happy. That apocalypse has gone well. I don't know because he no longer. We'll have that scapegoat point. I don't know. I'm not at all sure i am. I would almost really like to have a couple of issues of a book or maybe even a miniseries discussing how the council works. But i also that book wouldn't sell sell it all but it may not even know. Yeah i would be very intrigued to see the inner workings of that. I also really. I'm hoping twenty. Twenty one is the year. I get my ex book. Okay loved mora in house and powers and they've kind of loosely eluded to her over the years but we were promised a moyer book in two thousand twenty..

"Because it's it's a non linear story that assumes that you have a bit of information but also maybe. It's exactly what you're looking for. I i can't tell you for sure as far as ten of swords is concerned if you want to read it and you've read nothing else from hickman and you've read no x. Men ever and maybe you saw like part of an x. Men movie on djabel wants just check it out like picking up worst case scenario. Maybe you don't like it but you know world continues the spin and and everything is as it is. What do you think about the conclusion. Let's get to the end here of the fight. Final battle conclusion of tennessee between apocalypse and genesis. I don't know what did you think about that. Fight or what were you surprised at the reveal. Well so we're talking about apocalypse vs his wife and dennis is the mask. Sure sure so. It talked a little bit a little bit ago. About how i'm kind of proud of havoc inside klopp's how they've grown up in have transcended kind of what we identify them as a stereotype and i actually was watching a youtube video recently. Where the guy said. Hey if you were to define ebeneezer scrooge define him. You know crotchety up and be bothering all this. And i'm pretty sure. I've used this analogy on the podcast before but apocalypse from what we know him as is not how he ends the story apocalypse more or less. I'm trying to pick my words carefully. Because i don't wanna undersell what he did and i don't wanna over. I don't want to give him too much credit. But i don't want undercut it. He more or less sacrifices himself for krecko and he goes to araca yes to live with his family. Basically nam bay comes to live with cypher. And there's like a transition of power that basically is like if you leave everybody alone. I will come to you and we will nebulous live our lives. Yes.

Yeah you could like you were saying you could probably skip that we you and i don't need to dwell on it i don't i don't think Because at some point it's just gonna be you. And i just listing things and i don't know how to make that sound dynamic and fun if you wanna look it up you absolutely can Or you can come into my store and buy some one because it gives a list in there. Yeah there's there's a there's a whole bunch of stuff. But i think what what i want to focus on more is is some of them. Some of the major beets That i thought were very interesting. Yeah okay kinda hit on. It was one of them was one of the stood. Out was gordon's death like you said khalip says in there that that's how mutandis children and that was a pretty dramatic moment. i think in the story arc. In my opinion we'll Let's talk about how the events were scored. Okay because it seemed it's very arbitrary depending on what's happening Saturnine she could i. If you defeat five people maybe you get one point or if you defeat five people maybe you get five points. It kind of depends on how she she's feeling reminds me of playing games with your friends when you're eight years old and all of a sudden the rules change absolutely all. This is safe spot in the whole time. You trying to figure out who is xiang. And she's just on other worlds side for the for the first half maybe two thirds of the events Krakatoa the x. Men are behind it and the event itself the the event that ten of swords is about doesn't even start until about part fourteen or fifteen here right. "They landed finished. I guess might be a way to. I don't know when you when you got done with the series like this. When i got done with it. I was just like white so the interesting thing. Let's real quick what we had with ten of swords breaking it down to its component parts. I suppose is we had. It was a twenty two part story most of which took place within about roughly about two issues of each of the existing ex books. Not including like mini series. Like juggernaut wasn't a part of it or whatever but it was book ended by ten of swords creation. And what was the last one called stasis no stasis russian destruction okay so is book ended by ten of swords creation and ended with tennis courts destruction and then right in the middle was ten of swords stasis so these three books did not have any specific ties to existing titles. Yeah yeah so honestly if you wanted to. If you want to read tennessee in ordinary twenty two parts you could read those three issues and be okay. You will miss out on tons of my new ship but you could get the story from those three okay so they make a way for you because i've read online so i had to buy twenty two issues one hundred dollars. So you're saying you could read those three and probably somewhat understands absolutely will because we're looking at ten of sorts creations sets everything up and everything kinda talk to you about the exception of again some details. It was a sixty page issue by the way it was a huge thing But then that is part. One and then stasis. I believe is part twelve so through throughout the course of like between part two and part eleven that whole thing is essentially just watching the different x men get their swords and one of the things hickman is brought to x. Men is something that he brings to a lot of his books..

Portrait Of: Gabby Rivera
"On a monday afternoon. Writer gabby is visiting her local comic bookstore. It's a place in downtown oakland. that's called cape and cowl. Remember have come in for like adventure comics and stuff. What'd you got anything fun. Anything a little poking around this is where gabby looks for heroes who are not your basic white guy. I'm gonna grab that like you know girl kicking as basically right like i wanna grab. A miss marveled sues as gabby is flicking through at the comic bookstore. There's a young man who's wearing thick black glasses and camouflage jacket and he spots you. Miss america america is america chavez. That would be marvel's first. Latina queer superhero gabby began writing for her in two thousand seventeen. She wrote twelve comic books about america's adventures as a spangler speaking college student who can also punch through dimensions of time and space miss america. That's my girl. It was important to me. I appreciate that despite her happiness at chatting with a fan gabby hasn't always found community in the comic book world as sometimes on online space says it can be like or you're not telling the story writer. You shouldn't tell the story for gabby. The in-person experience has been a lot more positive. Whatever you're doing here. He's like whatever magic. You're actually a witch. Keep it up from media. It's let usa madonna wholesome and today a portrait of writer gabby playback before gabby libra got into writing comic books. She wrote juliet takes a breath. It's a twenty sixteen novel which is a coming of age story about a young queer latina. Who leaves the bronx which is where she grew up and that novel got her. Some attention from an unusual place marvel comics. They ask gabby if she would be interested. In writing specifically for their superhero america these after decades featuring mostly white male heroes. Marvel comics has recently been making an effort to introduce more women where people of color and lgbtq heroes in their comics. Some people were angry with these changes shortly. After gabby began writing for america chavez. She started getting threads and being harassed. This was a tough time for gabby. Suddenly she was swept up in an online backlash called comic escape which criticized. The comic book industry's attempts to be more inclusive. I sat down with gabby to learn more about her beginnings as writer and about her experience. Shaping queer latinas superhero during a really tense moment. Gabeira welcome to let the usa. Thank you maria. I'm so excited to be here with you. I'm excited to excited to so your favorite term for yourself is what quirky rican is what you are on instagram. But you love to call yourself a nerd. Right yeah I love nerd. Butch thea loverboy. I have a couple of terms for myself. Keep on going going. Sony Confirms At Least 10 Movies and TV Shows Based on PlayStation Franchises In the Works
"The headline here. Sony has seven. Tv shows and three movies in development based on playstation games. No word on if the uncharted movie and the last of us tv series are included in that count So this came directly from sony pictures chairman and ceo where he revealed that his studio is developing seven tv shows. Movies based on playstation games They didn't name any names. Which i thought was interesting They didn't name any dates. Either i mean it's it's interesting right. The big headline. It's a catchy headline. It goes back to sort of a common theme here which is disney. Everything becoming disney The question is what seven tv shows and three movies are going to. Are they gonna make like the you would think they would have less than a little bit. I with the slate of tv's shows and movies sort of being hit or miss on the gaming front. Why not name specific so that they could get some kind of audience feedback and reaction guys. Think i'm particularly interested in these. Tv shows a lot harder than you know. Hour and a half to our movie like a lot of how are they going to agreed entire development but like for example last of us just as as an example. I see that much more as a series tv series than a movie way that one. Either you know. Like uncharted awesome movie. I would watch the movie in a second. But i'm charted obvious here right. Yeah so it out. It's like fixed indiana jones. It's like deanna jones but good. Now let potlucks i. I should say indiana jones. That came out rock. Indiana jones was always incredible and the first three movies are amazing. I mean the margin just to be very clear yes. Indiana jones is amazing. Don't worry paul. We still agree on that. I was about to go after. There is no joy in my heart. I do not like any film harrison. Ford what's that other big zombie series. I wife walking dead right won't wouldn't the last of us tv series feel like a lot like walking dead walking very successful true. True that is shockingly popular like however pushes won't feel and look very much the same. I don't know well. I could say that about every zombie movie ever doesn't days later feel like dawn of the dead. Feel like i don't know you know. Heart of darkness feel like our army of darkness. Like i mean there's zombie thing. Apparently we can have infinitely many of them. People still watch them martin's comments maybe the best here god of war movie would be incredible. I agree but let me come back to the original question here. Why why not announce what they're going to be. I think sony's like. Ip slate is clear. What sony actually owns either man part of that interesting. I think everybody tamargo. Marvin moons But i think there was something with. Sony had movie rights now marble makes the movies but sony distributes it but i think the characters owned by marvel but don't you agree that sony's ip is not crystal clear at least to me well especially without announcing what these shows are. I had no idea what that would make a. you know. I mean uncharted. And last of us were legitimately the only do that. I thought of has a theory why they would announce this without naming names might still figuring out pregnant prematurely sony and william. You might have better with this. But they're i think they're they're video game department way more higher class than their their movie studio and their production studio. I don't think sony pictures is particularly You know they're kind of like the fourth or fifth player. I think in the in the studio in the movie. Production game Obviously sony entertainment on the video game side is very well respected as developer. So i don't know if they can actually execute on this plan. We kind of talked about the riot. How we thought riot would actually which is ironic because ryan has never had anything to do with movies. But i think. I personally feel more confident riot. Being able to make a movie slash. Tv shell about league of legends. Than i am about sony which actually is in the business of making movies. Is it going to be able to have that magic s word. Synergy to in the movie and entertainment. That's so interesting. Because i have a much higher confidence in sony than riot and i'll i'll just i'll just be very simple. It's like. I actually think. Sony has blueprints or more coherent blueprint for what to do like the uncharted movie. They could literally take dialogue and scenes from the game and it would be a good movie. Like i think of uncharted. Moore's movie than a game right like they literally at the equivalent of the marvel comics story board like they can just take the game and take out the like. they're good. they're i think lee has a harder goal there because what is like. What's the story of league of legends. Jeff do you know who's the protagonist like i. I'm sure there are answers to this. And i think i might go no. I don't think anybody really does raise. Like the reality is they. Were pretty complicated. I'm taking crazy. Maybe those riots berretta blizzard and other Do i think riot can pull it off. Yes yes this is not like right. It's gonna make it. I think they're make a great movie. But i think it's much easier for sony because sony literally needs to pick an uncharted game. Get this got the script descriptive at cut it down to two hours and film it and it will be just fine. The games are designed to be like movies. They're set piece moments witty banter reasonably sharp characters and interesting relationships between them like they're gold. You know what i mean. And i think the same by the way of god of war i legitimately think than this last god of war probably might have been better as murphy in some regards like i enjoyed the story and the setpiece moment so much and the camera work was cinematic. Like half of let me the last god of war good was like how beautiful it looked and how it drew you into the narrative with immersion and and that was all i think it was all camera camera lights like perfect for though so

Tom Hanks' is hopeful that big movies will save movie theaters
"Hanks is hopeful that Marvel Comics and other large franchises will save movie theaters. In a recent interview about his out new movie that he's got coming out. He acknowledged that there was a change coming to movie theaters that was inevitable, But he believes that movie theaters will still exist. When he was asked that very question, he said, Absolutely. They will on a big event. Big event. Motion Pictures are going to rule the day of cinemas. Now. He added that again, like I said earlier, this is all important. It's very important that we get other franchises like Marvel. Things like that to get on board of on Lee releasing movies in theaters to try to keep that patrol. Yeah, I know. Some people are worried about that right now. People are gonna be so excited about going back to the movies. We're going to see a resurgent of movie events where people are dressing up in costumes. I love that kind of stuff, right? I hope so as well like there because we It was a destination programming was here and I hope that we get back to that again because You know, it's all fine watching it at home, and some people have some really great home theaters. But there's something about that experience that I missed two. I do, and there's something like if you are bothered by people like because the only thing I don't like about Movie theaters are other people. They're I mean, they're the ones that hurt you. I've gone off on people before, as I've expressed on the show, But, you know, I think it's about the time of day you choose to go buried your followed by this. Do not go to Friday night opening of a movie, right? You're gonna get all the annoying people with it's packed, so just go on a Tuesday night when no one's there different is a very broad definition. Some people are just so bad. I'm theater is like, sure. Baird up ahead of new people are art. Yeah, I hope the one thing they stick around with and I know they were doing this a little bit beforehand is some of these retro movies like I was actually going. I want to see back to the future, all of them. I saw grease. I saw all these great movies and nobody was in the theater wearing my mask, of course, but I hope they keep some retro movies in there every once in a while, and I hope that some of our smaller second run theaters do have things so support your new home cinema grills your parkway theaters. All right, We have a chance when you have a chance. Make sure you support them as well.

The Long Legacy Of The Arecibo Telescope
"So let's step back for a minute edit and get a better sense of how the telescope has been used over the years. Tell me about what it does. What kind of projects it's worked on. So one of the really neat things about the The observatory that's very versatile. Scientific instrument most telescopes radio. Telescopes don't have the ability to send out light. They only capture late at the observatory. We can send and capture late when an asteroid coming by. We're pretty much a flashlight that we turn on we send out to. It comes back right. We can tell you how far these objects are down to a meters unbelievable add narrate and we care about where these asteroids are going to be because what if one day this thing comes around and gets too close to earth if we can let people know this is going to happen next year we can actually prepare for it like dinosaurs. They didn't have a space program so they can get to prepare for anything. That's true we do have that on the dinosaurs. We don't have much. But we have out of cbo and we have the direct understanding of asteroids because i also think just from an outsider's perspective like this telescope does really play a role in our cultural imagination. It contributes to our sense of off. You know about the universe. Like i think i remember in the seventies it was used to deliberately beam a message into space. You know like hey. We're here like i mean it really has like not only these scientific contributions but these cultural contributions it's like an it's an inspirational place. You know oh yeah. I love marvel. I'm love marvel comics. And things like that and i was watching. Although i'm a little old doesn't matter. I was watching a cartoon about the avengers and the avengers were flying off to the odyssey observatory to save it. Who was that still in the cartoon. Oh my gosh so yes it really is you know. It's not like one of those fields of science or scientific tools that really stays in academia right. It provides a broader context for understanding. The universe for non-academic says well which i think is is really special and important. It's like bench because of its versatility. It gets to be part of not only applied science but just part of typical day to day life. You may not see it. But it's there in cultural context. It's there you know saving your life making sure this asteroid is not coming towards you. It's really cool so it sounds like at this. Recent damage has big implications in terms of slowing down a lot of research. What kind of research are we going to be missing out on right now with it down well for personal perspective. I actually had some observing runs. We're gonna come up in late. September through october where we were going to be studying mars with radar this year mars was going to be the closest it was going to be and also observable from the osce observatory until the year twenty sixty seven so it. This year was literally a once in a lifetime. Opportunity to observe mars with other. See all twenty twenty twenty twenty worst year ever. Yeah okay so the damage that happened. This year isn't the first hurdle for the observatory right hurricane. Maria damaged the observatory twenty. Seventeen you you were working there right like. Tell me about that experience. Su twenty seven one hurricane. Maria came by not only was. I was still working at. The observatory actually stayed at the observatory. That's where i went for shelter so i got to see the winds combined and the damage For me one of the things that like hit me the most or make me realize the damage the most after the hurricane when we went outside. And when you look across the telescope and it's in the middle of a beautiful rain-forest greenery everywhere and that day after the hurricane when we went outside there's there is no green left it just nothing just brown. Everything was brown. The trees were dead. You see all the way down to the soil. It was impactful in the sense of. Wow this is the damage of the hurricane. Awesome packed full as a puerto rican. Who's used to seeing their island. Be beautiful and green selling costs high. Like that's gone all gone in day. That's tough that you know it starts being Quite a bit less about the science at that point. Oh very quickly. I mean after the hurricane when there was no utilities at all on the island we still had a couple of generators so people from of see what would drive up. We pump water for them and they leave with a bunch of water the to drink water. Well so okay. Let's let's let's talk a little bit about the funding struggles right because there have been ongoing funding struggles for the telescope. Break that down a little bit for me yes. The telescope which is owned by the national science foundation has had some funding struggles in that the budget that is used to operate. It has been going down. And it's gone down from anywhere from about fourteen mil per year with the expected current contract. They could go all the way down to two million gotcha into and so what will that mean for for the telescope and the people that work on it. So as there is diminishing funds going there They'll be less available time for people to go explore go observe pulsars and find the first evidence for gravitational waves which won the telescope a nobel prize in physics and nineteen seventy-three. It's

How to Handle Major Life Transitions
"Hey sober sellers oh modernise. It is finely the week of the big move. I know many of you are saying not unlike some of my friends. You've been talking about this. Move for a bit now lynn. I have only because this is part of my recovery. I'll explain more as we get into the podcast but wanna share with you. I why this is somewhat a culmination of the planning that i began. Who we back in two thousand ten two thousand eleven two thousand twelve. When i was just getting my footing in the whole idea that my life was going to be so very different than it had been for the previous forty six years. I was scared. Initially and i was not really focused on much beyond stopping drinking yet. Eventually i became someone who is really curious about how i could use my new skills that i was learning in practice seen every day every week every month and what that would do to my future. What possibilities might open up for me. And when i let myself think about and hope and be open to changes. How was i happy to know that. I could dream at the ripe old age of forty six and forty seven and forty eight and decide to go and get my master's degree. And what did that mean. Sure it meant. I had to sell a house and i had the move and start a newer life Three hours away. From where i had been living as i had gotten sober in those first two years and i went with it. I decided with the help of people who were supporting and helping me at the time to understand that. I was sure enough afraid of what i was about to do. But more so engaged in a process of living life that would help me cope with whatever fears and whatever things came up on the daily. Because of what i was about to myself into and that was a whole bunch of new things. Change is moving away renting a house. You know meeting a bunch of new people starting an education program. After god knows how many years all of that was really really scary and ultimately it allowed the discovery in me. That i could do these things and i could actually move through them not perfectly but with an outcome that i was pretty content and satisfied with so the first thing want to share with you today. Is that where i am. Moving to. i dreamt up in my head googled and figured out that a community that i had in mind. Mind's i where. I wanted to be how i want to live was actually being created right here south of atlanta outside of a nifty little town called peach tree city and at the time they were calling. It pinewood forrest which i've been calling it for this whole time as well but they recently changed the name. Because it's jason to a studio that films all the marvel comics and all kinds of really big named staff. But that's only a small part of what i moved out here for. But since it's across from the studio and the studio renamed itself two trillion with. That's what this new community is now being called the town at trilogy.

TV's Top 5
Marvel’s Helstrom Is Now Streaming on Hulu
"Hulu is premiering hellstrom which. At one point was known as Marvel's. Hellstrom. But somehow the marbles disappeared probably because it has no particular relationship to the marvel comic character and because Jeff Lobe is out at Marvel TV and they're changing their marvel TV exactly and they're changing the entire administration. So Hulu basically has in this particular case, a somewhat orphaned TV show that he is not very good. It is. So what you're saying is it's all connected Dan. Bullets connected to eventual cancellation I would assume. I turn what ever it's just not very good. It's IT'S A it's been. If you go online, you can see how the original character of. Demon Hellstrom and his sister Santana Anna here. Look in the comex they look nothing like that nothing in their world looks anything like the comedy connection basically, it's been re conceived as A. Color drained. Overly dark exercises drama of the type the TV has had like twenty in the past five years and the even acknowledge multiple times in the first five episodes. How much TV and movies have been doing exorcism stop and yet they do hassle absolutely nothing new or interesting with it.

How Does Captain America's Shield Work?
"The official marvel comics database says that Captain America's shield is a metal disc that's approximately two point five feet in diameter and weighs twelve pounds. But Rhett Lane at wired magazine did some math and figured out that it would be more likely to weigh forty three point nine pounds despite the shield being made of a unique alloy combining vibrant. NEOM, which is. A fictional metal steel in an unknown third component. Elaine also figured out that the density of the shield would be somewhere between eight, thousand, seven, hundred, sixty, seven, and four, thousand, three, hundred, eighty, three kilograms per meter cubed. That is somewhere between the density of iron and titanium. Now in the Captain America Comics Story goes that Dr. Myron McLean was attempting to replicate Hercules Golden Mace fusing. Vibrant NEOM with an experimental iron alloy some say it was a steel alloy but even McLean didn't know what it was because he fell asleep when an unknown catalyst was introduced to the process he was never able to duplicate the process. So the government painted the disk and gave it to Captain America. But how would you forge such a thing? Especially since metallurgy is so complicated just The forging temperature alone depends on the materials carbon content. It's alloy composition maximum plasticity in the amount of reduction required. Was it heated by induction or by continuous fuel fired furnaces with material this unique you'd have to carefully control the heating process. Now, Ford ability is how easy or difficult material resists de formation and since Captain America's shield is indestructible, it would have to be a very Narrow forging temperature range meaning it could only be forged for a short time after heating with metallurgical factors like crystal structure chemical composition in grain-size at play the only way McLean could have diminished their influence would-be by adding alloying wants possibly compounds that easily dissolved with the metal. There are all types of elements that could have been introduced, but it's likely the captain America's shield was forged. Like a super alloy, this is how metallurgist refer to iron base nickel base in cobalt based alloys. Specifically, the ones that offer very high strength at high temperatures. These really high strength metals and iron based grades are the least difficult wants to work with. So that would narrow down Mcclain's experimental alloy to iron super-alloys are really difficult to forge because of their narrow temperature range you can't. Even use regular sizing presses in hammers on them because they will deform. They even wear down the tools designed for forging them pretty easily. They're also extremely expensive like ten times. The price of carbon steel sounds a lot like captain America's shield right. But how do we explain the shields ability to absorb kinetic energy supposedly from the vibe rhenium in the alloy usually materials absorb kinetic energy. Through other mechanisms like plastic or elastic deformation or dynamic fluid flow but cap shield doesn't seem to be an elastic metric material and it's not organic like polyurethane in the movies it actually seems to reflect vibration rather than absorb it like when thor hits with Mueller in that first avengers movie and the shockwave flattens a whole forest. Perhaps that was because the shield reached its absorption limit. Another thing that's tough to explain his how aerodynamic the shield is. If it really weighed forty three point, nine pounds, it would be difficult to throw even for a guy in peak physical condition like Steve Rogers the comics Tony Stark actually puts electromagnet under the shield to help control it in mid flight but captain America later ditched them because they upset the shields natural balance it seems like the soldier and the shield are made for each other.

Hellboy talk with Tim
"Did you. I read hell boy win did I I. I've I read hell boy when I was. I really getting into non Superhero comics when I was in the military and it was around the first time. I want to say it was around the time. The first Guillermo del Toro movie came out. Two Thousand Four. I believe Man I'm old and it's very interesting too because hell boy. I came out in nineteen ninety four. Yes and so thinking thinking of. It's ten years and that was an accomplishment And now here we are twenty twenty two having a relevant conversation about L. Boy. That's back issues to get in. Because he's ninety two thousand four win. The movie came out. They had They had reprinted all of the trades in the traditional red format that you've seen on elbow trades red banner. Banner across the boy. Yeah and there was a bunch of stickers like hell boy now in theaters or something like that but I picked up the first volume of that and I was like well. I'll check it out and it didn't resonate with me at all. I didn't like it. I didn't like the art I didn't and at the time to I was at a point where I was defining like. I'm not going to go off on a tangent about belief systems or whatever but I was I was kind of going on On my own kind of personal spiritual journey and I didn't like the idea of taking a demon and putting it in a spotlight and I had a real issue with a boy from and it just kind of bothered me and also I was a child in able to discern. I I was I was an adult. You know what I mean I I was. I was still trying to define what my moral compass is in relationship to the entertainment that I took in And just at the time hell boy was not right for me just to clarify you saw the movie. And then he picked up the comic books. Okay Yep actually I think I think I bought the comic in anticipation of the movie but it was because the movie was coming out that I was GONNA go see us out so you weren't really impressed that much. I didn't land with me. It wasn't at the time I was into more of a more of a clean style And Mike Manila's art is is arguably anything but like clean lines in that was just just my preference at the time like I was really into the Geoff. Johns Teen Titans Which had a much much more traditional line work and again. This was at a time where I'm venturing out of superheroes for the first time And it was it was kind of interesting so hell boy has been a thing that I was aware of but I'd always associated the comics as being not nearly as good as the movies It doesn't help that Gamble del. Toro's one of my favorite directors of all time but let's fast forward a little bit. I picked up. B P R D play frogs and that is basically like a four volume omnibus said like it was the the hell boy at one point breaks off from the B. Prd that'd be prd becomes. Its own thing and be. Prd's interrupt his bureau for Paranormal Research. And Defense yes those for those of you. That may not know. Now I'll get into it but I read. Bp plague of frogs volume one. Because it didn't have specifically I was like well. I didn't wasn't interested in hell boy but I was kind of interested in in the fish guy kind of interested in Liz. Who's the fire starter? And I was kind of intrigued. What does that mean when Hell Boys not around? What is that book? And that I fell in love with Hell Boy. The hell boy world through eprdf bpd was written for me And there was a time right towards the tail end of plague of frogs where I hadn't read any hell boy comics but not hell boy specifically but I but I I've been eating up. Bp already so much At that point to the hell boy trades and this is still true to an extent are in and out of print so sporadically that. It's difficult to get everything so. Bp or something. I was pretty familiar with going into last year. Twenty nine hundred twenty eighteen man. I'm so old time. Time is all time impressive so when the new movie came out eighteen nineteen asa last year's leading into last year so the tail and a twenty eighteen darkhorse started releasing the hell boy omnibus editions. And what those are four soft cover books that encompass hell boy from his first issue in the seat of destruction all the way through the The hell boy in hell macro series and then they also released a couple short story collections. And a few other things here and there and they also released Be Prd the devil you know which kinetically ends the story that began in Nineteen Ninety Four. So it was. It was a very big year for hell boy in two thousand nineteen and it was the first time that for fan like me. I was able to actually sit down and read it. And and with the context of of being a discerning adult you know in my in my mid to late thirties versus versus. You know more or less. An intellectual young adult in my early to mid twenties approaching the material was completely different. Avs Very very very very interesting I still maintain for me personally be. Prd is the superior book but in IT IS THE HELL. Boy Universe in Hell. Boy is the crux of it And so I do. Identify myself as a hell boy fan. Do you went from two thousand four. But basically didn't get into hell boy until twenty eighteen. Oh Boy Himself the proper what about be. Prd Though captured your attention that maybe the hell boy that you picked up into two thousand four. That didn't so I've thought about this a lot and my elevator pitch for the B. PRD is For people who come into the store and are like Oh why should why should I read this book? B P R d from me is the X. Files if they were investigated by monsters. It's really fun. It's just bizarre cases. And instead of having mouldering scully who were you know very human characters? One's one's a rational skeptic and the other isn't in this instead this time we have. There's a wear Jaguar. There's a fish guy. There's a fire starter. There's a humongous Monkey lous excuse me As well as a few a few other regular like every day soldiers thrown into the mix as well and it's very relatable versus for me. Hell boy that the thing that the thing that separates me from hell boy is. I'm not a demon from hell regardless of what my mother will tell you and I wasn't around for World War Two didn't fight Nazis. I didn't I didn't have like I don't have that worldview but what I do have is a knowledge for me specifically. I know this isn't going to be true for everybody but I. I know what it's like to live on a military base. I know what it's like to have that structure. There was a point of view. I had from that and the inner struggles like how everybody in the unit relies on each other. But also sometimes you just can't stand each other and also there's work to do not to mention the the drama in the book is fantastic. Unlike most comics like you go pick up a marvel comic right if you go in and pick up the newest issue of Captain America. Captain America is that time kind of flows so every time you read Captain America. He was thought out. I want to say about ten to fifteen years ago. Regardless O- doesn't matter if you read if you read captain America in the sixties. He was thought out. You know he was thought out in the sixties there but because it was you know. He was in the ice for twenty years but as the decades go on instead of being in the ice for twenty years using the answer. Thirty Years Forty Years Fifty Years. Whatever and we don't directly talk about how. Captain America was thought out in the sixties. Because he wasn't anymore and boy and you know when I say in hell boy the Hello Universe to include. Cpr D to include Crimson Lotus. All that stuff dates are sat and they're generally set the year that the book comes out so seed of destruction number one came out. It was nineteen ninety four and so that event actually introduced us to the concept of these frog monsters and it was supposed to be just a one time thing in the year two thousand. I WANNA say two thousand two thousand one the first issue of be. Prd came out and so from there. That's that's what started. What's now called the plague of frogs storyline and that brought back the frog people who were introduced in Nineteen ninety-four in Nineteen ninety-four. We have hell boy Liz. And Abe in two thousand those characters of aged and so we go into twenty twenty. Now I guess if we look at twenty nine thousand nine I believe was the tail end of the devil you know from. Eprdf was wrapping up everything. But Liz in that is a middle aged woman. She's not she's you know she's a bit more mature she's a bit older and the artwork represents that in the way she's experienced her life has has represented that as well and so one of the things that I think is really cool and I forgot where my point was but one of the things I like about the elbow universe. Is that the elevator. Pitch for the elevator stopped a long time ago. But it's there's a very real sense of time and there's a word I'm looking for. The stakes are real. There's there's a there's A. There's a very real sense. That time is a factor Life is precious and and things have to be accomplished or the world's going to
