"Would enjoy it. You'd enjoy a good night because you get not only see these great celebrities and be with friends and good people and have a really nice night. But you also get to hear the people that have been helped. They come up and they do testimonials. And it touched your heart. And it touched your heart. And anyway, that's enough for that. Thank you. As far as the mere they got that down, old to me, I'm sorry. You know what? I can't help it. When I was doing, I did fall Olympics fan BC, covering box. And one of them, I did it, I did three of them with the great bob papa. And what I did with the great Marv Albert. And the one I did with more of Albert, and you know this part, you met him, you met up to being around with me in this business now and boxing and you mean everybody. And but you've met him. He's one of the good writers. One of the good guys out there on the they're not all good, but he's one of the good writers out there that really works hard at his trade and doing this thing and boxing his name is Steve Kim and he was he was there. And he was I think I'm trying to remember, I might have got him hyped for that job. He was, he was there to do the research to help us with the research. I think I would want to was. It might have been, it might have been let's see. It might have oh yeah, it might have been 2000. That's how long ago it was. In Australia. It might have been that one. But anyway, Steve Kim told me about that. He was like, talk about intimidating. He's like, I get to be the research assistant for teddy. He goes, it was needless to say it was demanding and intimidating. Yeah, but other than I was great. Listen, I appreciate him. And so that's why I got him for the job. So he was there and Kevin monaghan, who was running embassy, he was also part of getting him there and does a good job. Did a great job there. And also helps the foundation too. So. Martha is one of the greats of all time, you know, he's a stick club. If you're going to be great at home, of course, you just stick one for making sure everything is right. And the research was familiar. But you have to be. Otherwise, you know, you're not going to be that good at what you do. And so he, we not only have to get all the research, we had to get the phonetic spelling for some of these names. These names were tough. They were tough, they were. You like the tie names, don't you? Oh my goodness. You were like, how do we pronounce this? Ask teddy Alice. He's an expert in tie. Yeah. And I would just say, but I could move on my feet a little. I would just say vitamin blew from Thailand. You know, it got right around that one. And it put moth was such a pro. And such a perfectionist, he said teddy, we can't do that. We got to pronounce their names. You're right, mom. So we would ask Steve Kim and this was really funny. We would ask now looks and we're going beyond really his call for duty as his job description. Description a little bit because he's there for research. He's doing a great job. But now we're asking him to help us with the pronunciation of some of these fighters. We were desperate. So we turned, I never forget some off turns to steam. So Steve, how do you pronounce this one? He goes smooth it out. Whenever we had trouble with one, moth would look at me and say, teddy, smooth it out. In the words of the great Steve Kim, smooth it out. Smooth it out. So I smoothen it out. When you say about marvel aren't being a stickler, that actually reminds me very much. When I say that as a compliment and when people ask me, how is it working with teddy? I say, it's the best. He's like one of my best Friends, but I said, imagine playing football for Bill Parcells or Belichick. The players love playing for them, but when he's but when he's like, asks for something to need something, this is not playtime. This is serious business, at least when we're in camp. This is very, very serious. And, you know, at times, you're like, oh, this guy, but you understand why he's doing it. And it makes sense, but that's what all great coaches have in common is like there. Very serious about their craft. But you know what's coming from the right place, but the message might not always be delivered with bouquet of roses and more like a foot up your ass. There's no room for Rosie sometimes, you know what I mean? Nope. You don't get two chances, how did you get one chance at it and you better make it right? And there's a lot on the line. And I have a responsibility. I have a responsibility for a fighter. So I better get it right. I mean all of that as a compliment. No, no, I agree. I mean, I understand that. I appreciate that, and I do. Very much. So all of the mayor, thank you, mister wells. So listen, as I said, so it was so important to get to geography right in this one. And that, as I said, right away you saw that. And while Craig is looking to get on the mat, also Mia needed a wanted to be standing and a boat jockeyed for position to get to geographies. They wanted, and it made for tell me if you agree when we can. It made for strange first round. A weird first round. A closed round, but a weird first round with the edge for me was going to also be a ring generalship. So and then the second round, Craig was winning. And ozdemir closed really strong and maybe stolen, a little bit like patty when he closed strong at the end of the first round. When he closed strong, I love it. So, you know, here you are, you're going into, you know, you're going into the next round, like I said, the third round now. And it was really close. At the end, it was close, but you could make an argument to possibly even be up to nothing. I don't know what the scorecards were. The actual network, but I was seeing it that way. I got the cards. He had 30, 27 sweep for Oz to marry one every round. Yeah, so again, it was called, but that's the way I saw it. In the end, when you got to the third round, I just thought those to me are for his fight more. You know what I mean? He just he fought to fight. He needed to fight more than Craig for his fight. And I agreed I had also mere within that fight. So all right, let's get into let's get into the krylov and Gustafson fight because prior to this fight started, you sent out a tweet that basically said, krylov built quite a sweat woman up in the dressing room ready for a fast start and like I said for a fast start bang and you hit the nail right on the head first round, stoppage, KO's Alexander Gustafsson, tough to watch the big Gustafson, the legend, go out like that, but in the UFC, you know, more so almost in the NFL, not for long.

"I think that if you were a smart executive and you saw what was happening in early on, like Adam silver did, we probably all would have pushed it. But then it did create a world of distractions and it was to the detriment of the game itself. But we shall see. I mean, I think this warrior storyline called me a home or whatever, I do think it's the best story in sports right now. And I can not, it would be incredible if they came back and they had clay come back and he's good again. And man, you get a finals, warriors nets, you know, or your stocks? I want Ben Thompson to get mad at me. Warriors bucks, you know? That's exciting stuff if it happens. Yeah, and those stories. And I think that's what the league is kind of been in the wilderness the past few years because there hasn't been a story to get behind and you've talked about this a lot in your podcast. You talk about it a lot in your articles about people think in terms of stories. Yes. Right? And if there's no story to tell, it's like the warriors thing is so obvious. It's like this team that was great. They went on this incredible historic run. They lose a bunch of guys to injuries, they lose KD to free agency. They absolutely stink up the joint the first year at the KB loses last year. It was like, ah, mediocrity, and then this year, they're the best team in the NBA so far. They don't even have their guy back. It's easy for fans to for fans to follow that story. You know, like, some of the stuff that we're tracking, whether it be like the Celtics, not like in Kyrie's attitude adjustment, or just some of the craziness that we would just end up following as a league, rather than what's taking place on the freaking court. Again, I think that's been to his detriment. I love a bunch of the new guys in the league. Of course, like the jokic is in the bookers and the Donovan mitchells and the Trey youngs. Like these young guy, of course, Giannis, he's a two time MVP. These young new generation guys are interesting people. They're gonna be fun to follow, but we do have to develop these stories. I don't know what they gotta do for jokic. Maybe it's gotta be in this extravagant WWE type intro, where he comes in on a horse because he loves horses so much. I mean, that would be that's one way to catch the attention of the public, I suppose. But yeah, I mean, I'm definitely a culprit in this whole thing. I'm a hypocrite. I run a website where I don't talk about the games at all. So I'm definitely part of the problem I would think. But yeah, it seems like you need to pitch things through story, and that's what this is where we get derailed into nostalgia. But that's what was so amazing about the NBA and NBC. And those intros. Those intros are great because they're great with Marv Albert or Bob Costas doing an aeration, but they're also fantastic because they're telling the audience. They're telling the audience this is important. This is important. This is an epic battle. This is why you should pay attention. This is why you should be into it. I contrast it with I had the experience of doing this podcast with the Cavs, the Cavs bloggers, chased down black guys who are looking back at the 2016 finals. And I had never watched those finals as a TV product because I was there covering them on the ground. And I came away disgusted with the ESPN presentation of it because my experience of these finals, it was so epic. It felt like readable. It was I just remember myself in quicken loans arena. And they start with that Phil Collins in the air of the night intro. And I'm watching the concession years belt the lyrics singing in unison to it as the crowd jumping up and down and really feeling the energy and it's for that game 6 and it's just the hair on the back of your neck is standing up. And then I watched the TV version and they've commissioned the roots and I like the roots, but they've commissioned the roots to do some sort of weird intro and the motif is the number two and it's like two, two games till game 7. Three is the number two. I don't know if you even remember this, but it's just no. What is this? They're not explaining. Why is there no narration? Why aren't you using Mike breen whoever to present this to us? Because this is an epic battle between two opposing forces, the showy, glamorous, barrier versus the Gritty, I'm just a kid from Akron. Yeah, even though it's. Versus the rust belt ether. Yeah, play it up, man. And it's just sitting there for you. And for some reason, the product, there's just not that much thought into it. And it's not like, hey, I love the NBC stuff, but it's not like those guys were geniuses. They just obviously, to quote one ESPN employee gave the people what they want. So yeah, they.

"I was so proud because i it's like you know it's almost like they got recognized for doing something at a pretty good level at a pretty high level that they as you to do the olympics i was like wow holy goodness wow thank you i. I must be doing something right. And and then doing the olympics by great partner. Bob pop and a great partner like i said marv albert where he totally have to did with three weeks and you work for two weeks morning and afternoon and night for the first week and ask. And he's a teddy. We did two hundred like seventy eight fights. I was like we did to all my goodness. It's a lotta work it's not a sprint. It's a marathon. You gotta be prepared. You gotta be ready to Pronounce a lot of names that you have no idea how to now. I will say. I want to see a compilation of pronouncing some of the asian names. The time john. It's not pretty. And it's not pretty. And i tried to treat with the great vowed to once and i said well the the the fight of foam as by john in a balloon non on. You can't do that in a blue trunks. That say as they. So he's right he's dryer. You can't cheat. But thank goodness phonetic spelling and all that even with that it wasn't it wasn't a layup but what really was horrific and that's the i work was seeing the corruption. I've been around boxing. All my life most my life fifty years now and i've seen all the corruption. The appro games for what i saw at the time who was running the olympics was i abe. I able was jaw of all the enforcement of all the administration of the officials of putting it all together. The see i guess would put them in place and and they ran everything. For i-i've like the internet amateur national boxing association they defer to them and say okay. You guys oversee the boxing tournament. So everyone's up to speed. So the eye is kind of governing through issa. Which at the time was headed by azerbaijan. Representative it was represented by a lot of different people and and some of from those countries. They they want a board they were or whatever they want. They had different to the capacities. The bottom line was the. Here's a guide. Me who came from top flight professional boxer where i saw i thought the worst corruption either so my life and i added another thing coming to me. I saw worse corruption with eib people damages a. Let's go up. No i what i saw it. I it may be wanna throw up every day. How they will ripping no heart and soul out of these kids that trade most their lives for this moment and they deserve to move forward in the olympic dream at it got stopped at got hold got stopped on spin on by these corrupt officials immediately for my evil and i had. I always went to. I went to verbal blows with the head of evil in two thousand twelve. His name was dr wool. They finally got rid of being from his doctor walks. They finally got rid of but not way too late way too late and the reason i almost went to i mean again. We went to go to verbal blows and battle. Basically get between us was he had called a meeting to me with me and my director papa of so here we are so they ask for meeting with the commentators of nbc. That happened be i. That's me and bob pop. So we get this meeting bob. Papa was much smarter than director the producer. Anybody he said i love. That's a good idea to put. Atlas was with teddy without the woke. I think we'll probably a better player if you force me to pick. I'll go bill russell. So that'd be much hop consulates bill. Russell magic lebron kareem and then on another planet somewhere else separate from everybody not even to be included in the same discussion but they need. These people is michael jordan. That much now get out if it is that. What was your favorite player. James worthy by military. Unc so are stuck on a desert island deserted island. Whose boys would you like to bring into. Yes bob albert are migrant. Mike breen really push him in there. I think marv albert has a better voice I think mike breen is maybe the best at keeping track of a game and explained the details of a game that i have ever seen a large voices better going. Give you a little context with mike breen. Mike breen win Devon booker turn the ball over in. What was it game game five. So as soon as he turns it over there is like seventeen seconds. Left mike brain if you listen to the broadcast. Phoenix needs to foul. He says that right away chris. Paul doesn't even realize it. Chris paul's like right back on defense. Mike breen immediately hits that contextual note. And i thought it was genius. Absolutely genius So i i think marv albert voices better than i think might brings about the best. I've ever seen at sort of telling the story of the game in that exact moment. it's blows my mind. So i straddled. I straddled the heck out of the ads on that one. Yeah if you were given the key and he said you can have anybody's job in turn of sports from from a bar casting perspective. Whose job would you want tomorrow. As great as on point. I got the job. "All right. he's the editor at large of the ringer. He wants left. Espn because they wouldn't give him five million dollars a year. He is bryan. Curtis what is it about the nba finals that every year. There's announcing salary drama. I don't even. I was involved. One of the air sits every year the espn. I don't know what happens. Weird how that always happens isn't it and it seems like it's like i can't tell if it's coming from the announcer or one particular executive who might be have a real interest in putting those stories out there i just i can't tell you know you know my theory curtis anytime. They put the salary of either what they want or what they're already making in one of those stories. It's that's that's the network. Move to try to basically undermined the town a little bit. That's always how i feel when they do that. But what do i know Because the fans read that they're like whoa. They're making what Anyway i wanted to talk about some media stuff. We'll start with marv albert because this is gonna be pretty soon and we might have a j. dante. The joke about if janas comes back for game seven five minutes before a game seven knew he could have marva. Here comes jaanus and do the nineteen seventy five finals callback but We're at the taylor. Amar what are you. What are your final thoughts here. I think it's incredibly important to remember that the first year he does the national. Nba telecast is ninety ninety one which is also michael jordan's first title so he comes in with amazing timing and you and i are old enough to remember when the nba was like everybody's third choice for a sports media career behind baseball and football yet. I remember that first year. Marv during the nbn nbc and watching it going. Oh my god. This guy's not just a great announcer. He's actually a basketball nerd. He actually loves pro basketball in a way that. I don't think i'd heard a national announcer express in quite the same way. Like i think. I've written this for the ringer. Bill is the way that zach lowe writes about basketball. You write about basketball. That was the way marv announced basketball. Like middleton beautiful move. You know right ball beautiful pass. He just he had this appreciation for it for its own sake and you know. Dick stockton in the eighties brent in the eighties bit. I just never got the same vibe that that was it for them. And that an marv was exactly where he most wanted to be in the world when he was calling those games that that's that's the first thing that stood out to me yet basketball announcing from a national level. A pretty storied. History of bad combinations. Bad decisions i did a whole. I think in my book i did like two pages about just how over and over again. How many mistakes they made because they would always just put the famous ex star in the booth with no rhyme or reason to whether the person was going to be good or not so oscar. Robertson was in there. I think he got he got kind of pushed out during during the playoffs in nineteen seventy five. I think You had bill. Russell was in their elgin baylor You had pat summerall announcing basketball. Then you had in stockton in heinsohn who everybody felt like was the celtics homer and he was trying really hard not to be a celtics homer but he obviously was. He's the bled celtic green so we never really found the right combination. It didn't feel like until it was Marvin fratello in that. It was his love for basketball. A sense of humor. I when my parents got divorced. I moved to connecticut for eighth grade and i got to hear him do knicks games. It was a revelation you'd heard kinda the rumors and he had done some nbc sports stuff then boxing and things like that. He'd done some football game so i had heard him in other platforms. But i'd never heard somebody with the rhythm of the game that sounded like you know somebody that cared as much as i did and i think even felt that During that hawks. Game when janas got hurt when the hawks are playing really well and marvelous get into it and heard her had three and marketed. The kevin herder in the name and i was like old school mar. Bring it back So yeah it's it's hard not to be nostalgic. He certainly the greatest ever. I think breen has approached him in a lotta ways but mar being i get the advantage but i do think breen who reveres marvin grew up listening to him and respects them and really has cribbed. Some of marv style I think he has carried the torch. Would you agree. Yeah oh absolutely. But i had. It's very funny. I had a famous announcer. Tell me a couple of years ago. People don't understand the difference between prime marv and prime breen. I don't know what to tell them yet because there is a difference and it was a sense. I think with marv again. I'm with you with breen man. If you're in brains hands to call a game. I feel great. He's awesome. he's technically all just right where he needs to be. But marv had this weird funny side about him yes he. He had all these other tools and he would be like. I remember one time. He was calling the playoffs with bill. Walton and they were doing the draft lottery at halftime and they went to the. You know that shot where they showed the ping pong balls in the hopper and marv comes back and he's just like bill walton mesmerized by the flow of the ping pong ball and. It doesn't even respond. I don't think well said anything. And it was almost marvis marvez very different than david letterman. But they had this commonality that. I felt with both of them that they would make jokes. And you you. And i'd be sitting there as kids watching on tv and go. I don't think everybody got that joke. But i got that joke. That's kind of the greatest feeling of somebody funny on tv when you feel like oh i got that i hear..

"Can watch for free all three hours. We couldn't charge you for content like this not on peacock but you download the app and watch all three hours. Trae young couldn't go last night because of an ankle injury. And you would have thought all right big advantage for the milwaukee bucks and the bucks. Were i think nine point favorites in atlanta well atlanta held the lead throughout the game then in the third quarter under eight minutes to go. Janas went down with a hyperextended. Knee the hawks that momentum continued they ended up winning comfortably and making predictions fails feudal because the star simply can't stay healthy this year and some of this has to do with conditioning. We've talked about this before. I think james harden and anthony davis their injuries had to do with their lack of conditioning but a lot of the other injuries that have happened. You know jaanus last night. Trae young stepping on an officials foot even go back to lebron during his ankle. We've had injuries kyrie irving his injury. And what had to do with conditioning. And what is just a coincidence. Here we've had bigger names here and the might have been right. It's the condense schedule quick turnaround after winning the championship but whatever the reason the injuries have affected every aspect to the postseason. Now we hope that trae. Young and the greek freak croquet. They're able to play. I don't know if this is going to be able to play. It looked really really bad. Initially he walked off on his own power. But i thought reggie miller made a great point. When the greek freak is limping off and marv albert said well he's you know he's limping off on his own power and then read said it's probably adrenaline right there. He did come back. He sat on the bench. Which i thought was a great move as if to say. Hey we can still do this. Like let's what sometimes when that star disappears and you keep waiting for him to come back. They knew that he wasn't going to be able to play but he was there in the moment with them and i think that that while they didn't win to me i loved what i saw with the greek freak doing that. But you know we just have to settle for competitive games. We may not see the best players. And i know that you're going to have people. We love to always attach an asterisk. Well that team that won the title in twenty twenty one. That's an astra's it just like the lakers. They wanted to bubble. That's an asterisk. You you win a trust me if the sons the box. The hawks the clippers win the title. They're going to celebrate. You can kiss their asterisk. They don't care they just want to win a championship here. It this is attrition. whoever is the healthiest is going to win the title. I've said it. I feel that way. We're seeing it unfold right in front of us. Whoever is the healthiest is probably going to win an nba championship. That doesn't mean they're the best team but this year this was about health. yes mclovin. this is an astros. It's an asteroid. It's just the whole thing's been blown up. This is going to be hawk sons..

"The writer darab the movie that made me exist. I'm here because of that film. So why not have him. As the god father of your child. All-star what is it like to have ron shelton as godfather. I mean as i got older and realized all the movies he had written and directed it really. I mean as. I did what he does really became more of a resort. We get lunch a lot now. And i really liked. The guy is amazing. How were you introduced him to bull. Durham i was introduced to you Well i went to audition for ron. I did really well. And then the agent says did really well but you gotta go through. And so i am i i. Then i went out and met kevin pitched through. Its through the ball around with them so okay so we want to make sure that you know people could throw. Yeah i played third base. Never pitched before. So i learn all those mechanics and then on top of that. I wanted to do a kind of fernando valenzuela thing rolling back right which was gala. Yeah breathe through your island. Yeah pretty much. So so the catch that you had to conduct in order to get the gig was with kevin costner. Yes where you're out at warner brothers studios out in the valley and i'll outside a bungalow. There yeah so people are driving their golf carts around you. While you're trying to catch with kevin costner was like okay. No don't break. Anyone does because you are nuclear lewis. You're supposed to throw it in any direction right there you know. He was written as a lefty right and wrong decided that he wanted me so into a right right a kind of ruined the movie. Though only he was a lefty really taken. The next time you might not exist. That's you know you think about it and you boil it all down the premium guys. You memorize your lines that day. Yeah wow that was fast. Nuclear lewis asphalt there. I know pretty much rush back. What do you have a question for this man like. That's your movie man. I guess for me the lines of bull durham. "A 24 years ago. Gs 24 years ago, and you even heard Marv Albert. He was on the calls, Kurt. Yes, that was the end of the NBA Finals. That was it. And like, I don't know what it is. And I love Marv. I'm not trying to take anything away from them. But does he have the signature call? Marv Albert's going to retire yesterday was his birthday. Happy birthday, Marv 80 years old. But does he have a signature call? Like what's his signature call I was looking for. I'm like, okay like Marv's birthday was yesterday. I'm Amar fan. He's got the Yes, he's got that catchphrase. But like, what's his best call? You can go Verne Lundquist, You can go a lot of the guys that have been doing for as long as Marv Albert's been doing it. His debut for the Knicks on the radio was January of 1963. I'm sure he's had many memorable calls. It's just that like I don't I don't know. I don't know why it his calls. Don't stand out. Or stick out like some of the other ones do Marv certainly is the C the best basketball national basketball announcer of this generation. Suss, Who is the top like right now? Mike Breen does the is the lead for for ESPN and ABC, and he's very good. Mike Breen. Um, you know, I think Kevin Hart Kevin Harlan's Awesome I Love Kevin Harlan. I think he's versatile. He's great at football. He's excellence Got great energy for basketball. But it is more of the best play by play I mussburger did for a while, Bob cost this kind of alternated between doing play by play. He stepped in when Marv had a couple years where he was out. Because of legal issues at NBC. Just trying to think of like the other because when you talk about football, the guys just jump out to you, right? I guess because it's football, but some are all did it for so long. Al Michaels did it for so long as Dick Enberg, who was the was the top It was NBC at the time. So before Fox came in And took the NFL contract. The NFC CBS had the NFC contract. An NBC had the A F C contract so they would have the Games on on on Sunday. The two games on Sunday, the early in the late Games on Sunday, and Marv was, I guess the number two NBC NFL Voice and Dick Enberg was number one. But the football football names are easy. Right, Like Michaels is an all timer. Joe Buck's When it's all said, and done is going to be an Alzheimer out. Uh, what's his name? Mike Tirico when he takes over for Al Michaels. He's going to be really good, but the basketball ones don't stick out as much. Don't know Sauce. If I just said to you give me who's the best broadcaster out there Right now. Current broadcaster could be any sport play by play. Who's the best broadcaster out there? I grew up with Kevin Harlan for the two K games. So I love Kevin Harlan always have us a nice soft spot for him because He improvises so well, like every single time there's been a streaker on the field for like Westwood, One broadcast he did the boomer with when he was on with Boomer. Yeah, he also he did the one where it's like river that I think it was the 40 Niners and the Rams They faced off and on Monday night football, those very like uneventful, boring. And then this fans starts running onto the field, and he starts doing play by play for him. And honestly, that was like the most exciting thing that happened that night. Um No, but you know what? It is Sauce. He's not too like He's not above having fun during a game to where I think the average Play by play person, and this isn't a criticism of them would just say Okay, let's step away from what's going on here and let's just filibuster until they get stuff going on. He actually had fun with it. Yeah, which was awesome. I also like what like brain as well for me like I think it's not just him having like that signature catchphrase and just being like one of the best play by play guys that in in the NBA right now, it's also the fact that when you listen to when you ever you listen to next broadcast, and it's him and Walt like It's the most chemistry, strongest chemistry and the most fluid broadcast you'll ever hear. Well, Clyde Frazier's amazing he has. He has catchphrases as well. Now you're right. The chemistry. I've gotten a chance to watch some Knicks games over the years, and they're great. Mike Breen is very good, good energy. Good pace. He's not too sticky, right? Like the Bang gives you just enough to where he has his signature call Mike Greens, I would say is the top NBA guy right now for sure. Then you have the and then you have the college announcers. I would say that that I'll use the term pound for pound, but based for everything that they do. Jim Nance between lead voices. The Masters of CBS Golf lead voice of their football does Super Bowls. He's great at that with Romo. Um, And then you got college basketball. He's the how many years has he been doing the road to the Final four with CBS, even though I think he's a He's like a little bit boujee for me a little bit. You know what I mean? A little bit highbrow for me, Nance, but naturally rising to the occasion and not having to do something sticky or not having the right down something that he's going to say when when there's a championship. It's just naturally flows and Nancy's is very good at everything that he does. Sure 855 to 1 to four. CBS 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. We'll come back. Check it on the Aaron Rodgers situation as well, Who's right? In this instance. And do the Packers really want to keep Aaron Rodgers? I think it's a valid question. We will review coming up next. But now with the latest CBS Sports Radio update, here's Erica Herskowitz. CBS Sports flag. All right, John, If I get a vote, I'm voting for Iron Eagle exciting.

"The technicals and some of the flagrant letter called because they do not want it to lead to worse than they think of the detroit indiana incident. And that's what the fear is particularly in basketball because there's no protection and if someone punches someone as we did see one time by accent and the kermit washington incident it can be really really awful. I read the book on that. Was i think it was called the punch terrific book. Yes i mean just reading about in your re tea tasting spinal fluid and you're that but i think that's that's by design and probably why we don't see as much disdain because there aren't these explosions allowed to occur the stop because you're going to be thrown out of the game they're going to be fined suspended and As we saw even in a vital type situations where i mean draymond green that may have may have cost them the series last year the flagrant fouls how i mean speaking of the physicality and the toughness those nineties knicks teams. How mean and tough were they. By comparison to other teams. You've seen it's interesting to see pat. Riley who also is one of the great coaches of all time was able to go from finesse to our ball by using right terrible would capture it by by using what he had and Yeah they were very mean very tough. They were met by toughness to remember series with miami. But if you're a knick fan you love them. And i know there are people around the nba. Who like tough style of basketball really enjoyed it but there were a lot of low scoring games. There were games that a sure. Knick fans enjoyed it but they were grind out type tight games at that was very good those very good teams also but the style was different and the rules with different so They could get away with that now. Now they these guys would leave. Suspended hit by technical left. And right you know you. You couldn't do that now bums me out to see the bad relationship. That oakley has with the knicks now just because of you know the heart and soul that he was it is nice. I it is and He was such a popular player to amongst his teammates. Fans loved them because of the way where he played so fiercely Michael jordan was actually upset with the trade initially because he was very still lists very friendly with charles and he was kind of the protector of michael in those wild games with detroit pistons with a the true bad boys and the trade was oakley for cartwright turned out. Cartwright was the right piece for for the bulls because defense and the wage setting screens and he can also shoot so out to be a good trade for both clubs. He was the ultimate nba bodyguard. I for michael than jack ewing. They're doing by the way. Is it surprise you. That patrick hasn't gotten a coaching opportunity. I thought he would. And has certainly put the time in as an assistant. And i know jeff. Van gundy loved collins do they. They hired him at a. It's really nice to see that. He's getting a shot..

"Eye view of jordan in those days and and the subject of of the comparisons come up to jordan's teams and what we have with golden state right now given what you know. What's your position on. Let's let's say that seventy to win jordan team versus the one. We just saw storm through the finals against the cavs. It so not to duck it. But it's so hard to compare because the rules were different. It's much looser. now it's been made. The game has changed to be more offensively geared which i think is good You did not have the three point shooting. Excellence let you have now. It's tough to play hard-nosed defense now and in jordan's era you his hand checking and Fouls called more frequently in terms of You know the contact that was being made. If jordan played. now he would definitely adaptive. Lebron played in those days. He would adapt but to me. It's very it's it's hard to go against. What michael did i it. Just because of his demeanor and his desire to win that lebron or kevin durant steph curry. Don't have a desire to win. But he was on another level when when it came to that. And i thought that the chicago to me. That chicago team still feels like it would be the best if you brought them into this era and would be a wonderful series against golden state. I think the only. I think it's the only comparable mark because i remember looking at the lakers numbers from eighty seven. You mentioned the three point shot. They averaged five attempts per game. This golden state team average thirty wallets it. It's it's completely even bad teams. Just fire away because the mathematics are. You're better off going for the three You know for the mrs. You're going to have from from free point territory as opposed to missing To i've always felt also. I mean there are a lot of players even in the fifties and sixties if they went through the same kind of conditioning and the same type of growing up through..

Nick ranger games because of conflicts that marty had and the rangers outside the time. Jim gordon had so It was at a very early stage. And i listen to some of these tapes and say how do they put me on the air just to go back to that. It was that marty was stuck in a snowstorm. I believe i read was in paris or something reading. Si story about this from from the early nineteen nineties on you and your family and you were at the boston garden. Trent yes yeah. Mardi also did harness racing at yonkers raceway and was on harness racing business in paris and it was a snowstorm. Although i still feel and i used to tell him that he would deny that on purpose he said he could get back. So i would get an opportunity The knicks play the celtics in boston. It was a Just a ferocious snowstorm in the east. So i went up at the last minute on an all night train. Ride with my brother. Al who Also was a broadcaster in you know later on He was my statistician and we stayed over for three hours at a hotel in boston and then had to prove to the people at the press gate that we were actually doing the game i was i was like nineteen twenty s old and did not look like i was the broadcast about. I took my commercials out of the briefcase to try improve it and they finally Did let me in and The knicks were pretty pretty bad at that time too. I should say and The celtics were very good which is not a surprise so it was. It was a route but You know what a thrill do it particularly if the boston garden which had one of the greatest broadcast booth. I would say you know in terms of vantage point In the history of the nba was right there on the on the floor. Right where we're actually on a on a over the floor. Okay with similar To the old madison square garden. Where i started i had the same thing also was ver- like a very very close to the to the floor or to the ice in terms of hockey. I don't think people just how big a hell hole the old boston garden was. I mean i grew up in boston. I went there a lot as a kid. I remember having some of the obstructed view seats. I remember it being like a thousand degrees in there for a old stories of players and what they had to deal with the net. That god off visiting locker. How many stories over the years did you hear from players in in what happened in boston. Oh i spent time in the locker room because when we when. "All right. So chris from your conversation with him and from watching him as a broadcaster over the years. How would you say bill. Walton has evolved from my selfish perspective. He's evolved to be more interesting. I remember watching those. Mba on nbc games with bill walton and marv albert as a kid. Bill was nothing compared to what he is now. Penetration jumpers in transition whereas the defensive resistant for minnesota walton. Was the guy in a suit and tie on nbc for several years. Kevin garnett is thirty six in the nba. Free throw attempts. That's not good enough now. He's the when there isn't a pandemic going on. He's showing up at basketball games in grateful dead shirts and he's embraced everything that he probably had to bury for a very long time.
