I saw many people who had run in before you know, covering the marches in New York City recognized a lot of people. And some of them were not politically active before the death of George Floyd. You know a lot of them. Came to this on instagram. When how about social distancing? I mean, this is a march. How about covert precautions? Are people wearing masks? For example? What are you seeing in terms of Pandemics. Yeah, Of course. I mean, in terms of the buses running time from New York City, you know, I talked to one woman who said she only came because they gave her extensive list of his safety precautions that they were going to enact. Like making sure that you had a negative test in the last few weeks and also having way left people on each bus so that everybody could have a row for themselves. And they were all wearing masks. And here at the march, everybody check their temperature checks before they could get into the most densely crowded area has the mall. You know, way are outside. There were some areas that were more cramped than others. But Very much. Everybody is wearing that And I think that that sort of reflect, believe being in these protests across the board that you know, protesters are really proactive about encouraging everyone and police officers to wear masks and passing out mess And that sort of is also true today. "News. New York City activists have been marching against police brutality and systemic racism for three months ever since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Today they boarded buses to Washington D. C. For the 57th anniversary of the march on Washington, where Dr Martin Luther King delivered his famous I have a dream speech. W. M reporter Glen Hogan is there and she joins us now going first. Give us a sense of the atmosphere and the numbers if you can. Where are you right now? And what are you seeing? So right now I'm just beside the mall where you know there were deeper, tried like the memorial, and then they're marching around the Marty's King memorial. "This point where the numbers are now, Do you think that the restrictions on indoor dining ought to be lifted? I'm not even saying at full capacity. I'm saying the plan that was in place for very early July, And then Murphy pulled the plug on that just scant days before they were to open and surely after a lot of restaurant owners have spent thousands of dollars on food and supplies, getting ready to get back into the indoor dining. But whatever that plan was the distancing all of that. The wearing the mask the plan that was in place for early July. Should that now happen. 1 800 to 831 a 1.5 bill from Rockaway. You're on New Jersey One of 1.5. Hi, guys. I bill I am. I am the effect of his Pulling the plug. I've been out of work since Marty King. I am sick and tired of not hearing anything about Angels dining. He said. He announced today freedom and a possible 1000. You don't even know if they're Kobe. I'm sorry. People like me need to work. We can't sit at home, expecting the government to give us money. You work in the restaurant industry. I work on it. I worked on a government based on I was laid off. As a mark 88. I have no, they have no answer for when I'm going back to work. I'm sick and tired of sitting at home. Doing nothing. Yeah, I'm sure people in that club Bill, Thanks for your call. Well, someone who has been pretty out spoken during this pandemic is Senator Declan O'Scannlain. We have him calling in right now. Senator of Scanlon. Hi. Hey, guys. How are you? Okay. Yes, sir. What do you want to say? There's no question that it's long past time and this interest my opinion. We've done the research every other state in the Northeast and most throughout the country have had indoor dining for weeks. Or mud. Connecticut and tighten your dining June and they have had no increased rate of spread. They Are doing as good or better than we all could help. So By the facts on the ground. There is no question that we are needless, destroying these businesses. Indoor Jim's, too, by the way. Oh, and look, it's the unemployment rate is real damage done. Connecticut's unemployment rate New Jersey's 35% worse than Connecticut. It's 70% worse than New Hampshire 80% worse than narrow. And then you look at our budget for next year we are doing Dramatic and a necessary damage to our economy to meet people like the gentleman you just had on the phone. You're gonna be bankrupt shoes that will reverberate. The next year because of the governor's draconian, unnecessary continued lockout and destruction of U Do you think Bill should they be open without any restrictions? No, no, you could place for starting but you gotta get and again. We don't have to wait for the governor's braintrust. Reinvent the wheel, huh? Look at what these other states are doing and do that. Your hair Sure just went through 100% of indoor activity because 50 and 75 work without a girl. Uh, Connecticut. Is that 50 or 75% now, so no, You can have some respect for my sake. So the door's open Now all you gotta do is look in other states. Do it tomorrow. Senator of Scandal. Um, um, A lot of people who are as anti Murphy on this pandemic issue, as you have been also months ago complain that all he did was parrot whatever New York state did, But now you want him to do whatever New York state is doing. Well, New York is ahead of us and I also need to point something out. You may be right now. I'm even agreeing that with restrictions with capacity restrictions and certain safety protocols that we dropped that that we should be open, Reopening indoor dining. But you're also the guy in very, very early May that was calling for people to just rebel and defy. Stay at home orders. And how irresponsible was that of you? It was incredibly irresponsible of you. Well, and I hear you loud clear, but in fact you even walked it back because you were taking heat from it. Do you now admit that was incredibly irresponsible of you. And would you like to tell me how many people have died since early May Since you made those jackass statement? Well, it's not. It's not. There were not people storming out the door we talked about going out. Breaking OK, just because people don't listen to you does not mean you were not encouraging it does it gotta be care about what I was calling for. I said to people that you don't have to be locked in your house. You could break the rules and go out and look at the moon. You could walk to a park and look at the moon is what I said. Let's be clear. I used the word defy you use the word defy. Let's not mince words now. No, I'm not. I use the word defied and saying you should defy the governor. Staying home order and go out and look at the moon paper walk. And the name especially if you want to cure is made of people were killed because of that, you've got to get it right. It's the attitude. It's the attitude. You had the attitude that this was not that big of a deal, and a lot of your ilk has a CZ well. Won't know that We disagree with you here. I said. It's a lock down with appropriate. I said that wearing math is appropriate. Don't know. I have not been one of the people that know it know it quickly. Said that this was not like you had a caller on a little while ago. You're right. He was wall. This is serious note, but that's about all Why not? Why not let up on the green with the governor there, but we have facts like we have before us. Now we are needless, killing hundreds of businesses and it's tragic. I haven't been gone two days without having grown adults on the phone. Each years, they're abusing your business. Losing a lot of the dozen people that they have employed are going to be be without job. It's demonstrably that we should move forward now, uh, without question. All right. All right, Senator O'Scannlain. Thanks for calling New Jersey 11 point. Take care. All right. Like in Flemington, you're in New Jersey 11.5. Hey, thanks for taking my call. I just want to make two points. One is that if you look, we gave up our constitutional right to flatten the curve. The Kirk was largely flattened. By April, There was not one American that was not one person in New Jersey who wasn't following those rules up until that. But after that, when the curve with flatten, and now the governor ever explained, what else do we have to do that? The first point a second pointed and you pointed out the silk of the senator causing death? What about the increase in suicides? What about the increase in child molestation and child abuse and parental and spouse abuse that's occurred under that. What about the Depression issues? What about the missus? Diagnosis and exams and people according to the telegraph in the UK alone that they're going to die as a direct result of not of not going to the doctor, what about you and your ilk, causing those deaths? I mean, it's just like the coin here. We've gone on to war. Heart like we're gonna move on. We're up against climb for the news. Thanks for your call. All right. We want to know on DIS is back in the news because of this lakeside diner that continues to defy. These executive orders. But are they right at least in spirit in that it is time for Murphy to lift these 1 800 to 83101.54 30.

"Working in the kitchen with his hands stuffed in his pants but there is an infection food quoting one of over T. shirt in the winter was **** candidate number one god the verses rainbows all right there you go and the winner of bone or the day for January fifteen twenty twenty now qualified to be bar owner of the week we've all been he just mesmerizing away horrified by pictures of what's going on at in Australia twenty four million acres burned right now and Beverly's stir Kodiak is here Beverly's taken a personal interest in all of this what's going on in Australia it's really horrible to look at isn't it is it's it's so devastating in and heartbreaking and I think it's true that you know you feel all connected still everyone even people thousands of miles away in a different country and so you kind of feel helpless as the feel connected to them because the smoke is now travel it has in fact traveled all around the world based on its way and now is so and then the animals that sort of that's the heartbreaking when I can't I had to block several people on Twitter because they kept sending me I don't need to see another burnt koala I just you know I know you've researched a lot of that but Beverly what what how's it affected the animal population so right now there's actually eight thousand projected numbers of quality that have been lost and that's just you know really hard even wrap your brain around I mean they just they can't out run the final know ray and that you know you think about you know cute little qualities the winds are moving so fast they're just really excavating the flames through the forest and what not and so they're kind of getting hit the hardest but like you said over a billion animals of nine dead even some species becoming extinct now my son got some money for Christmas and he told me a couple days ago that he wanted to donate some money for the wild fires and you've compiled a list of some good places to do that I absolutely have so in north south wells New South Wales the wires foundation is the primary wildlife rescue there and they are literally on sending volunteers out into the flames too you know rescue animals yes yes and that's an unseen video these animals there they're not running away from the people they they realize all these people are here to help us and so they're they're they're like hell thank you you know yes in writing to people even if you offer water food anything and so wires is the foundation also for for different species that have escaped the fires and are now displaced from their natural habitat they're even dropping things like fruit and things for them to eat just because they're outside of their normal air and I saw a big drop the drop is for the harassing drug tons of carrots or animals yeah and so that's a good place you can go and find out how to don't you can donate to wires dot org dot eighty you wires dot org dot eighty you and then there are some others as well we we can't forget to that the two thousand homes destroyed and all and human life has been lost as well yeah absolutely and you know the red cross is out there helping with displaced people if you want to donate for them as well will be including a link for their their also even helping you know just people with the sheer shock that they're going through with losing their homes on mental health care lost you know closing food all of that and you know this is going to be an ongoing issue even when the fires are out there's just going to be a lot of rehabilitation and the different habitats and things like that hate to be a pessimist but I would say even if the fires go outs on that yeah it seems like they're just nonstop all those Kerry I thought you were Gino said that they heard there was some rain in Melbourne right and I'll bring this morning apparently I know we can rejoice about that right now everybody is probably doing the rain down there now but the world wildlife fund they're going to be a key player and going in and re planting trees you know restoring those those really sensitive habitats Australia I think nobody really realizes it's kind of has its own ecosystem because it's not apart from the rest of the world and so there's just so many different species that if one if one doesn't make it then it just affects other butterfly that yeah so it where in America it save the bees over there you know so everything absolutely so so there's war world what the world wildlife fund there's the wires organization and also the American red cross if you go through them you can only Australian right across so actually what we're doing an event with the red cross and with Dave and busters you know and I'm going to be there on January thirtieth at Dave and busters course at the gateway from seven to nine and we're gonna be taking donations there and also you can donate through our website there's a link there X. ninety six dot com and then I don't know but I would assume will get these links all of these public put on our website as well yes then you never leased stick how it still brought that's a Polish name is left yes Sir you have a proud Polish heritage yeah you know at half Irish half full well I know who wins out in that that'd be a that's a fight would be a good time that's right Hey I'm going to Ireland actually coming up here so well it's it's so Kerry and I've been in Australia briefly and in the big city of Sydney but great great city good people really nice people and it's it's just just awful to see what's happening to Australia right now you see those fire tornadoes that little that the fired generates is just devastating twenty four million and counting acres burned that's an area larger than Portugal Beverly has put in her statistics here so thanks for bringing this stuff to us and so much for having yeah and when he going to Ireland I having there in about a week be back in time to come to Dave and busters you know at that all right thanks for coming in thank you very much you so much guys are gonna take a break we'll be back in a moment you care you see a hi Marty king of the environment and the pollution in our air here pour into the air quality what impacts everybody it's bad for your health bad for the environment bad for you know just just life in general and it's bad for the economy people talk about not relocating here out because the the air is so awful so experts of the division of air quality say that the inversion is in place it looked fairly good today but it's going to build up again quickly so what can you do to help don't idle your car make sure you car pool skip the trip if you can tell a work that is stay home and work from home if you can bike or walk use public transit one day a week at least rather than driving all the time it'll save you money on gas and help improve the air and use that tier three fuel that's available now at you know like Sinclair Texaco chevron and the speedway marathon speedway stations so you want more information about all of that would stop wood burning stop burning within yourselves you care that you see a I. "A rental car and I within in the parking lot I looked in my rear view mirror and I looked over my shoulder but they're just happen to be a call to just write him a blind spot and and and I was trying to get out of the way for somebody to get in a parking spot so my date gas it a little more than than a publisher that and current she and he now had a five hundred dollar deductible okayed that they they send the bill which was I think the twenty four hundred dollars was what the total amount was that is one expensive pull in a parking lot isn't it yeah yeah it take out you know a lot of the plastic the person in the rear the right rear tail light but it also do get inches but this is probably got expensive they got into the middle part of the you know the the back channel that's why we're gonna expensive right there how fast do you think you were going like four or five miles an hour when you hit it yeah yeah they went to the rental place tonight sign dollar stuff with them they looked and then I got a lot of that's that's really not bad compared to a lot of the others so I'm thinking well hopefully this won't make the insurance going too much and then Marty king in a hundred eighty for two cars my term is is knowing they went up a hundred ten dollars so about one eighty to ninety per minute so you're gonna pay over one year about half of what the minnow two thirds because you had a five hundred dollar deductible you're gonna pay an additional premium two thirds of what the repair cost wise yeah basically wow and I want to add salt to the wounds which you don't want do you know that the your insurer has now put you in an industry database that if you go shop with other insurers it's going to show that you had this claim and other insurers are gonna be afraid to ensure your charge a lot more to have you all right yeah that was the basic worry was that I didn't I kind of wanted to ask before I get in knee deep into Colton hearing cordon there it's worth it to spend the time is it worth it to spend the time because different insurers will treat this differently one from another yeah so they came and I notice from that after into the future term is I want three year safe driving and then I think there's one other thing too that that are you know on the discounts they list that you have so they clobbered you double all at once can I ask a question Alex do you have a car loan on either or both of your cars yeah my wife we do my car is paid off completely but I have a much older car I don't even have all the extra comprehensive kids now one of those that was exactly where I was going with this so on your wife's car you may find that it'll be worth it to raise that deductible from five hundred okay and this is something that I love for you to always look at is having is higher deductibles you could stand so she has a loan her lender will have a limit on how much you can raise the deductible but if you have a higher deductible you're not going to make that claim then you're not going to get ahead with the higher premiums because they were done you any favors over over three years they're going to collect far more from you than what their claim costs them the nineteen hundred it costs them they're gonna collect double that all right three years so that's why I don't white for you unless you have to unless you just can't come up with the money making a small claim okay but yeah shop it shop it in see what you can do with somebody else and those polls I've hit one before they are always bad news Ruth is with us on the car care we're Joe hollow Ruth hello how you doing Ruth I'm doing well thank you how can I serve you Ruth well I'm just old enough to wonder if I'm doing the right thing I didn't begin saving for retirement village fifty I have maxed out the rock each year fantastic contributing to a four three be great but now at this age I was wondering if I should continue to go to the rock or should I Max out the four oh three B. and then if I happen to Max that out put anything extra towards the rock I would do the reverse I would Max out the Roth and then if there's more money you can save then put it in the four oh three B. okay because if you're early sixties and you didn't start saving to your fifty might work more years than you originally intended yeah and at age seventy even if you're still needing to work you're gonna be forced to start doing what are called are in dis required minimum distributions uhhuh and you'll have money coming back at you that you'd rather have put aside building longer term for your future potentially okay Ruth are you in a job or profession where you're going to collect a pension if I do it's going to be small okay so you're gonna live on me myself and I it's going to be whatever you have from social security and whatever you saved in this for three B. and your raw yes okay as I know thank you all right so that even emphasizes more the goal maxing out the raw feature which reached six thousand the limit unless you're over fifty in which case it's seven thousand right you're allowed to do and then the access goes in the four three B. okay that's good to know and are you happy with the choice you have for a Roth are you with a low cost provider if I can say the name okay go ahead I'm with vanguard so you're with the lowest cost provider good and that means that your money is very efficiently being put aside for your retirement so good for yeah and I do monthly contributions so that it I've been listening to you for a while there's a real advantage to you doing the monthly contributions because we don't know at what point there's going to be a stock market decline and so parcel in money and and a method known as dollar cost averaging lowers your risk with their short term decline in the market so you're doing everything exactly right thank you for that sure and continued success saving money because you're creating some freedom for you every single month with the money you're putting aside for your future Jim joins us on the car care we're choke Jim you have a doozy of a problem because people don't know they should trust you is that true yes that's true Clark what's going on jump Marie residences in Wisconsin and we are snowbirds and we went third down in the state of New Mexico and we live in a rural area and the post office will not deliver mail to our home so because of that they have to provide us with a free post office box at the post office so we droll I know where you're going with this we drive into town and pick up our mail now I've never had a problem until just recently we've Reno UPS delivers to us and fed ex delivers to us but my address down here is the if I have a street address in a post office box and twice now in the last week I have been unable to make an online purchase because they say they won't deliver to a post office box now one company suggested I go to the U. S. P. S. website in verify my address if I put my street address in first and then the post office box the dead what now website will not find my address but if I put in the post office box first and then the street address its merits verified but apparently a lot of these new companies are in office if you have a PO box they won't verify yeah there is they will verify because they're terrified because the amount of fraud particularly smaller internet sales organizations get eaten up by the fraudsters okay so a post office box for them is an automatic trigger so I have a question for you are there any private mailing things like like a UPS store anything like that in the town where you go pick up your mail afraid not it might be something besides that but I you know we may have to go shopping for one to go to the US and the other larger stores we have to drive a hundred fifty mile round trip to do that so a lot of internet merchants will sell to you sure some you want to buy from they don't want you yes okay so if they're small ones you know what I do I'd send an email to the CEO or call and try to talk to the CEO not the toll free number call the real number okay for that online merchant because they're in business to make money they all right to sell to you it's just their systems are set up to figure you out because they're worried you gonna cheat on yeah Peter's don't call up and say please let me buy it from you yeah one of the items I I tried to buy it last week was any antique and there was only one available and they had it in my cart but they wouldn't let me check out and so I lost it hello I'm sorry so with those smaller and smaller online sellers you know it could be a a five or ten person company sure call up and talk to the owner don't call toll free find the real number call one okay remember somebody is just trying to steal is it going to do that you're listening to the Clark Howard show.

"marty king" Discussed on WSB-AM

"My wife's car was in the shop we had a rental car and I within in the parking lot I looked in my rear view mirror and I looked over my shoulder but they're just not me upon the just right in my blind spot yeah I was alone and and and I was trying to get out of the way for somebody to get in a parking spot so I did get a little more than a than a car should have and current she and he now had a five hundred dollar deductible paid that they they send the sale which was I think the twenty four hundred dollars was what the total I'm not one of that is one expensive pull in a parking lot isn't it yeah yeah it took out you know a lot of the plastic the bumper in in the rear the right rear tail light but it also do you get into that but this is probably got expensive they got into the metal part of the you know the the back channel that's why we're got expensive right there how fast do you think you were going like four or five miles an hour when you hit it yeah yeah it when I take it that the rental place tonight signed all the stuff with them they looked and then I got a lot that's that's really not bad compared to a lot of the others so I'm thinking well hopefully this won't make the insurance go too much and then I'm Marty king in a hundred eighty for two cars my term is is renewing they went up a hundred ten dollars so about one eighty to ninety per minute so you're gonna pay over one year about half of what the minnow two thirds because you had a five hundred dollar deductible you're gonna pay an additional premium two thirds of what the repair cost wise yeah basically wow and I want to add salt to the wounds which you don't want do you know that the your insurer has now put you in an industry database that if you go shop with other insurers it's going to show that you had this claim and other insurers are gonna be afraid to ensure your charge a lot more to have you all right yeah that was the basic worry was that I didn't I kind of wanted to ask before I get in knee deep in the Clinton hearing court and then it's worth it to spend the time is it worth it to spend the time because different insurers will treat this differently one from another yeah so but I notice from that after into that your two term is I wanna three year safe driving and then I think there's one other thing too that that are you know on the discounts they listed you have so they clobbered you double all at once all right can I ask a question Alex do you have a car loan on either or both of your cars yeah my wife we do my car is paid off completely but I have a much older car I don't even have all the extra comprehensive because you know one of those that was exactly where I was going with this so on your wife's car you may find that it'll be worth it to raise that deductible from five hundred okay and this is something that I love for you you'd always look at is having is higher deductibles you could stand so she has a loan her lender will have a you any favors over over three years they're gonna collect far more from you then what the claim cost them the nineteen hundred it costs them they're gonna collect double that all right three years so that's why I don't like for you unless you have to unless you just can't come up with the money making a small claim okay but yeah shop it shop it and see what you can do with somebody else and those polls I've hit one before they are always bad news Ruth is with us on the car care would show hollow Ruth hello how you doing Ruth I'm doing well thank you how can I serve you Ruth well I'm just old enough to wonder if I'm doing the right thing I didn't begin saving for retirement village fifty I have maxed out the rock each year fantastic contributing to a four three be great but now at this age I was wondering if I should continue to go to the rock or should I Max out the four oh three B. and then if I happen to Max that out put anything extra towards the rock I would do the reverse I would Max out the Roth and then if there's more money you can save then put it in the four oh three B. okay because if you're early sixties and you didn't start saving to your fifty might work more years than you originally intended yes and at age seventy even if you're still needing to work you're gonna be forced to start doing what are called are Andy's required minimum distributions home and you'll have money coming back at you that you'd rather have put aside building longer term for your future potentially okay that Ruth are you in a job or profession where you're going to collect a pension if I do it's going to be small okay so you're gonna live on me myself and I it's going to be whatever you have from social security and whatever you saved in this for three B. and your raw yes okay as I know thank you all right said that even emphasizes more the goal maxing out the raw feature which reached six thousand the limit unless you're over fifty in which case it seven files right you're allowed to do and then the access goes in the four three B. okay that's good to know and are you happy with the choice you have for a Roth are you with a low cost provider if I can say the name okay go ahead I'm with vanguard so you're with the lowest cost provider good and that means that your money is very efficiently being put aside for your retirement so good for yeah and I do a monthly contribution so that it I've been was sent here for a while there's a real advantage to you doing the monthly contributions because we don't know at what point there's going to be a stock market decline and so parcel in money and and a method known as dollar cost averaging lowers your risk with their short term decline in the market so you're doing everything exactly right thank you for that sure and continued success saving money because you're creating some freedom for you every single month with the money you're putting aside for your future Jim joins us on the car care would show Jim you have a doozy of a problem because people don't know they should trust you is that true yes that's true Clark what's going on jump memory residences in Wisconsin and we are snowbirds and we went third down in the state of New Mexico and we live in a rural area and the post office will not deliver mail to our home so because of that they have to provide us with a free post office box at the post office so we droll I know where you're going with this when we drive into town and pick up our mail no I've never had a problem until just recently we've you know UPS delivers to us and fed ex delivers to us but my address down here is it I have a street address and a post office box and twice now in the last week I have been unable to make an online purchase because they say they won't deliver to a post office box now one company suggested I go to the USPS website in verify my address if I put my street address in first and then the post office box that that website will not find my address but if I put in the post office box first and then the street address its merits verified but apparently a lot of these new companies are in office if you have a PO box they won't verify yeah there is they will verify because they're terrified because the amount of fraud particularly smaller internet sales organizations get eaten up by the fraudsters okay so a post office box for them is an automatic trigger so I have a question for you are there any private mailing things like like a UPS store anything like that in the town where you go pick up your mail afraid not it might be something besides that but I you know we may have to go shopping we want to go to the US and the other larger stores with Dr hundred fifty mile round trip to do that so a lot of internet merchants will sell to you it's just some you want to buy from they don't want you yeah okay so if they're small ones you know what I do I'd send an email to the CEO or call and try to talk to the CEO not the toll free number call the real number okay for that online merchant because they're in business to make money they all right is sell the you it's just their systems are set up to figure you out because they're worried you gonna cheat on yeah Peter's don't call up and say please let me buy from you yeah one of the items I I tried to buy it last week was an antique and there was only one available and they had it in my cart but they wouldn't let me check out and buy it so I lost it hello I'm sorry so with those smaller and smaller online sellers you know it could be a a five or ten person company call up and talk to the owner don't call toll free find the real number call one okay remember somebody who's just trying to steal isn't gonna do that you're listening to the Clark Howard show she.
