"Marty Griffin. Marty's been on vacation this week. He's on vacation this week and next week. Nice. Prolonged vacation. Well deserved for Marty Griffin. But Robert Man Gina will be joining us shortly after the nine o'clock news here on NewsRadio 10 20 K. K. Kevin Battle Larry Richard off today. To appreciate it. Robert, Larry, and you are Marty and Larry off today. Hopefully they're not. Ah, gallivanting around. Sure they are massless. Of course. Yeah. That makes it very odd, doesn't it? Because you're you know, we have the rules. You have your mask on. You have a part. Very nice pirates. Well, yes, I thought it would be appropriate to wear the pirate won today. It's very festive. But isn't it odd? You know, when you're in this room, you don't have to wear a mask aside, you got through that door mask on Yes, up, shields up. It's pretty much what it is, and I don't know how many times can I know about you? But I'm in a production studio and you have to go around and grab something and then you forget you don't have your mask on. So you walk out like 6 10 feet, and then you run right back in again, grabbed a mask and put it back on and then go back out and get your paper were trained little gerbils running around. This is pretty much what it is. At this point. That's pretty much what you working on today? There were a number of things to talk about. Today. One is the issue of schools. And the CDC. With more guidance, I guess more advice more information for parents tohave to turn through about whether or not they decide it's OK to send their own Children to school, whether or not schools Should be opening in the first place and an interesting little twist when it comes to the first family because President Trump's son goes to a private school. That is not opening up fully. Even though they have classroom sizes that air south of 15 kids per classroom, And that's what the public schools are trying to get to their trying to. Ah social distance soon, so use some of the extra classrooms or some of the unused space in the schools and bring the teacher student ratio down in a lot of schools. But I didn't know that that school that Baron goes to his clothes. But the president said in the press conference the other day, he would have no problem. Senators could do school, so maybe he already knew it was going to be closed right now. They are leaning really hard to online. I'm learning only they are considering the possibility of going hybrid. But there is no intention whatsoever at this point to open up fully toe all of the kids the way that it was prior to covert 19 coming by the way, Ivanka her kids go to a private Jewish school. Same situation for them, too. So from the first family on down to us, it's the sort of up in the air as to what's going on in. Ah, education this year, right? I mean, just the way that it happens to be. I mean, clearly we can see that there are some school districts. That chick. There's back a little bit true that you just can't open it all and you go 100% online learning. And then there are other school districts that are more rural, that they can open up and have kids in class. And it's not as big a concern. So it's when they looked covers the gamut the breakdown of the demographics that are affected by covert 19 and contracting at the The younger generation under nine I think was 2% under 18 was like 4% or Sanders center, something like that so that that demographic currently has not been greatly affected. But who knows? If they're those silent spreaders something else? That's interesting, too, when it comes to adults going backto work. Teachers most concerned as compared to any other demographic group going backto because they've been sitting at home watching this whole train wreck unfurl and their their jobs are next. That's Rhimes on the next To use a pirate's analogy there next at the plate. So there On deck there on deck there in the on deck Circle, 8 56 Robert Man, Cheeto. Good luck. Today. 90 noon, K. K. "Our own Marty Griffin. Talks about his pet scan and feeling like hitting the lottery, Steve Blass a pirate for life has something to say in beating the winter blues with Dr Christian Conti all that and more tomorrow on Katie day radio. All right. Welcome back. Everybody to Katie K A R after noon program mardi Griffin. And Wendy belly wanna bring in right now. Dr David Mack Isaac. Did I say that right? Dr. Did you did? Hi, Marty and Wendy. Yeah. It's not easy to him to say. Well, we were taking I was taking bets on it. And I lost. So, but I'm so happy to talk to you. You know, I had no idea I was just talking to mardi about this in in light of his news that he's cancer free after going through HPV cancer. I had no idea that at the age of forty eight in my exams would they test for HP for us as well. Yeah. So all age groups Wendy now, they're starting to check more and more stroke, devaluation, cervical exams and Pap, so HP awareness across all ages is becoming more common. And I'm talking to my kids about this now because I five boys the youngest are ten and they've had I guess it's a series of shots. They've already had the first one. And you know, it's conversation that we as parents if we can get a shot that can can solve this or cure or prevent this rather its importance. Absolutely. And and that's the biggest thing is just the education for the patients because when this vaccine I came out, which I think was around two thousand and six there was no public awareness. Like, no one had heard of HPV. No, one knew what the human papilloma virus was. So really there is just like a lot of confusion is whether to vaccinate or not oxen eight and really it's just in the last year. Year or two that we've made a lot of strides to get everybody caught up on the vaccine, and there's still some old outs of people that don't want to do it. But a lot less than ten years ago. Well, doc, I was turned onto you by the Kenya family. Rob is my very very close friend, and they were kind of crossroads this is my cancer that I have. And I was just you probably know I was declared cancer free yesterday. I know super excited to hear that. But thirty thousand cases year could be prevented in the cane users a fantastic story, by the way, Wendy on our sparks site that the folks who go there and see along with my journey. But you gotta check that out there in the dock is also in it, doc, were you always a guy advocating this or did you just buy in in terms of telling families that you would recommend this? Well, just like everybody else mardi at the beginning of a little bit skeptical. Just because it was a new vaccine in Madison, you always want tried and true something that's been around a long time and just the initial reaction from parents and families opposed to it kind of made me almost second guesses this the right thing to do. Right. And people were really concerned like as soon as they heard this may be a viruses contacted from sexual contact. There was a lot of people that were like, no, no, no. We're not giving it to our teenage children. They they didn't really look into much. The other thing is you guys got to remember this stack seen hit the market and came about right, right? In the midst of the firestorm against vaccines in general. It was really the first time that did there was large groups in the public. There were going against the CDC in doctor recommended vaccine schedule. So then on top of that comes as new vaccine that no one's even heard of and people were even more reluctant to do it than the traditional ones like polio or measles. Mumps rubella ones that have been around forever. So it really like a lot of people at that time were just getting into chat, rooms and social media. And and getting a lot of their information from other sources the days of just getting it from your doctor were over. So there was a lot of opposition for years. And really like I said, and I talked to Marty the other day, and we talked about this. It's just in the last couple years that people really gone on board. And I think it's just because it's been around for so long, and there's so much awareness now that we're having conversations like this on programs like this about how devastating it can be. If. You don't vaccinate your David mcisaac doctor? How about the folks that will send us information? That shows this craziness they snatch up from some lying fake news site in the end of this thousand people have died from this vaccine is sickening. What people do to scare people. Dr. It really is. And unfortunately, people use those kind of tactics in in medicine and healthcare to there's a lot of agendas with the anti vaccine versus vaccine and people will use whatever tactic. They can to kind of sway the public opinion. But I really I really think that the biggest thing on an individual basis and this happened with a cane was Robin. I had a talk, and we're we're good friends. Not just a patient of mine and. He like what would you do? And I told him flat out like, I definitely think you should do it. And he was very receptive to it. But his his kids were very young boys were probably only three or four when I came out know when the vaccine I came out, so oh, and that's another thing mardi and Wendy is initially. It was just indicated for for girl. It took a while for it to get indicated for boys. So then I had parents coming to me saying, hey, isn't that fishy that now they're saying, it's okay for boys? But they didn't initially like just a lot of skepticism with a lot of things we didn't know about it. But yes, I as having five sons, you're exactly right. Because then there was this talk by my pediatrician who was like, look, this is something. I would do I need to do this. And I was like all right. Absolutely. But there is this stigma with HP isn't there there is there is not just the vaccine. But I think a lot of people in general like, I I've patients come in that they. Just wanna know what age B is. And what can cause? And what are the things they should look out for? There's just not a lot of information beyond like the last few years, I suggest people talk to their kids. And by the way, you can get up to the age of the forty seven years old now, it's it's right there thirty thousand cancer cases could be rented every single year. Gotta do. Yes. So the increase the age mardi it used to be pretty strictly eleven to twenty six. Now, you can start at nine can go you can go up to forty five. And the other thing is that there was an update. I don't know if you notice not, Wendy, but mardi and I talked about it. And that's the fact that there's now the gorgeous so nine which has extra coverage against other strains of the virus. Amazing. It really is amazing. Dr David mcisaac. Thank you so much. We appreciate it. I suspect. This is not the last time. We're gonna talk. Well, I appreciate you guys helped me on. I think it's it's a great cause. And Marty I'm glad you're doing great and got a clean Bill a house just really happy for ya. Thank you. Thanks talk to you again. Their take good care. Yeah. "With Marty Griffin. Okay. Get your motor running out on the highway and lots of other helpful suggestions. John McIntyre and for mardi Griffin. I hope you're doing well. Thanks to back the WBZ documentarian for giving us a heads up on the replay of the classic Seebeck documentary. Happy holidays, Pittsburgh at noon. The Sunday on the public television station channel thirteen WKBD. Mr. Seebeck, also pointed out for those of you just tuning in that oddly enough it used to be that his hot dog documentaries. Got more play on other public television stations around the country than any other documentary. But in fact, that record has not been surpassed by. The happy holidays, Pittsburgh, which you can see at noon Sunday, which has gotten more play on other public television stations around the country than any other. How about that? All right back to the chaos in Washington. The president of the United States the government shutdown continues. The headline on CNN moments ago was stocks back in the red. It is as you may know. According to published reports and broadcast reports for that matter the worst stock market in December since the great depression, not since the great recession of two thousand and eight but the worst stock market in December barring any miracle comeback in the next few days since the great depression. I'm no financial expert. But I've been around long enough to know that that doesn't mean it couldn't rebound in January, suddenly the government shutdown assault. If it is things seemed to stabilize a little bit, perhaps investors fears could be calm. So I don't know that this is heading into disaster. But some people, of course, worry about it. And one of the things they're worried about is the president's inquiries into whether or not he can fire Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell. A whom he appointed? But who has raised interest rates a couple of times, which is what he has the power to do which in his mind fed chairman Jerome Powell that is is what he is supposed to do. A New York Times opinion piece has this perspective. The Federal Reserve Board has had the temerity to do exactly what it signalled for months. It would do steadily raise interest rates to prevent the economy from overheating. The fed is legally mandated to maximize employment and contain inflation, not to prop up the stock market on presidential orders. Jerome Powell the head of the fed also signalled that the fed would pause in the rate raising mode. If the economy began to slow Wall Street was not surprised by this pronouncement. What surprised Wall Street, what terrifies Wall Street says this New York Times up at peace was Mr. Trump's inquiry as to whether he had the power to fire Mr Powell, whom he appointed in February that injection of uncertainty was then magnified when secretary of the treasury Mnuchin announced from his Mexican vacation spot that he had chatted with six big Bank CEO's in an attempt to secure. Pardon me in an attempt to assure investors that there was adequate liquidity in the financial system. Anyone who experienced the great recession might recall that merely raising the idea that there might not be adequate liquidity immediately injects doubt into investors minds about adequate liquidity whatever assurances you attach afterwards. The Dow promptly had it's worse Christmas Eve trading ever. Disgorging six hundred and fifty three points or two point nine percent. So mind, you Steve Mnuchin who was a movie producer among other things prior to being named secretary of the treasury starts calling around to big banks and go like, hey, you know, just in case things were to turn south you you've got enough money to get by right? Your liquid? You have the adequate liquidity, correct? And just the fact that he was calling around asking them scare the bejesus out of the markets. I don't know if that's a rookie mistake or just a dumb mistake or both. But. The level of incompetence of some of the Trump cabinet members. As one could argue the same day belongs to the.

He killed fifty eight people injured almost eight hundred. Dick, celebrate the rate of fire of a semi automatic weapon. Allow this one guy to become a killing machine. Kinda sorta end up becoming defined as machine guns. I'm interested in the gun owners out there to start to creep into your rights. I'm really interested to notice eight six six three nine one hundred twenty I would say, no. But I'm not a big time gun guy. Actually fascinating. They will. Now be illegal. Owners will have ninety days to destroy their bump stocks. Turn them into the bureau of alcohol tobacco. And firearms owners also can. Law enforcement to see if they were willing to accept the devices. No compensation. If you have what are the gun guys out there, thinking the gun gals in the gun guys? What are you thinking eight six six three nine hundred twenty good good deal? Good deal for me. I mean, I would be love it. If I heard Trump say, let's stop the production of assault weapons. Donald Trump has been bad for the gut business Brock Obama was good for the gun business. We've talked about this a lot the gun folks all believe that Obama was going to ban all these weapons that the city council. Pittsburgh's talking about and never did. So a gun sales and gun companies made record profits gun sales were through the roof. Folks, couldn't get their hands enough arsenic now that Trump's in office, there's not really a belief that any of this stuff's going to be banned. So sales of tailed often gun province are way down. It's actually fascinating politically. Check this out February Trump met with lawmakers. This is falling the parkland shooting in Florida the mass shooting. At that meeting. He said. He supported this ban bump stock. Interesting. Trump directed. The attorney general. To propose a rule banning all devices, the turn legal weapons into machine guns. Here we go, and it's now in place. Ninety days. You gotta give Trump credit for that. Whether you want to or not officially banned bump stocks, no gun guys out there. Want to jump in on this? That's interesting. Eight six six three nine hundred twenty. You get ninety days to tournament from the date the final rules published and then they'll be illegal to hold onto. So big step. I guess folks don't care anyway. I do I'm glad it's happening. So so that that will stand that will stand there will be no appeals there. There will be no yelling and screaming about the laws that the ordinances that city council. Pittsburgh trying to pass you'll be costed appeals. None of that will ever being forced. None of it. Armor piercing. Ammunition, come on bump stock ban in Pittsburgh. Assault weapons ban? There will be a bump stock fan in Pittsburgh because the federal government passed that's the key here. But this notion that people somehow think that because this is what they want to do. They're going to do it. You can't just do that. So I applaud the President Trump for doing this. It's a step in the beginning. It's interesting any gun owners out there have these very furious. If you have one, and what will you do with returned to destroy it? What we do with eight six six three hundred and twenty just came down. The ruling just came down. Hey, Chris what's up? So yeah, I'm a big gun guy. Very. And I support Keith office kind of concept. So anyways. Look. The bump stocks are are a trinket or the Bubba that lives out in the woods or the guy that killed fifty eight people in or the guy who killed fifty eight people in Las Vegas and injured eight hundred. Exactly hold on a second. Hold on a second. You're gone. You're you're you're trivializing something that isn't trivial. I realized. Not gonna be adversary. Oh, don't try to get. Don't try and you're trying to don't try and diminish. The value of what this is you say this for the bubbas out in the woods. So you're demeaning anyone that has these as a redneck was the guy in Vegas was a multimillionaire and killed fifty eight people and injured nearly eight hundred was a redneck no purpose. And I'm telling you the third. No, I do have sought weapons I have quite a few of them. And I'm not going to give up, but I'm not saying, you know revolution. I'm not saying that silliness what I'm saying is. It's the thing that has it does not I collect things. Value. It does nothing and it actually diminishes the functionality of the right for what it is. Have you ever made? Chris Chris Chris have you used one? Yeah. Yeah. They're useless. They have nothing there. That's why I choose not to have. Now, the idea behind the assault weapons ban, which I know you're for and I'm not gonna I'm not gonna step in that realm. I think honestly, rain bar to get active. The weapons we have drivers tech. We have. Let's raise that right now. That's rational, we should be looking at mental health and things along those lines agree. The administrative standards. Get. Need to be hitting him or not. Hey, Chris, do you think this creeps into the area of gun control? It me personally. I'm one of the more staunch guys. But you know, what? Honestly, it doesn't. It doesn't affect me. And it doesn't affect me buying an AKA over at Donald it. It does not sure. It's an literally ancestry that does nothing. And hold on. I think when we say raise the bar with the Barbie. What would you require to buy an AK or AR? What would you tropic drugs can make you normal me? There's no reason for you to own a weapon, and you know, what I'm a veteran and a lot of people a lot of veterans. I can't believe that. But listen in normal society, if your you have to take things to make yourself, quote, unquote, normal, you don't need to do that. You cannot be in an ultra state and drive a vehicle the why wouldn't you be an altered state and be able to own something that can potentially harm someone when you yourself. All right. If you don't take your drug, you can harm someone like you. Don't jive. Appreciate your call. Chris seem like a smart guy. Not a problem. This is the moderate ground where you, and I we share something we Katie is not Uber. Let actually very I'm not to say Uber moderate, but it leans dinner less, but there are things in common, and we can tackle these problems together. No, I get it. I appreciate your call. My man. Yeah. Hey, you take a look. You're welcome anytime a little bit. I just had a call him out when he called anyone who has a bump stock those backwoods bumpkins will the guy in Vegas was a multimillionaire killed fifty eight people and injured eight hundred. I think this is a step. Anyone else who owns a bump stock? I'd be curious to hear from you eight six six three nine minutes and twenty we'll be right back Mardi.

"The inside story with Marty Griffin. Hey, hey, hey, hey. The county executive day. So we ended up with the county executive which would show. What's up, buddy? Good to be with you. How are you man doing doing well doing, well, I'm on my own for a few minutes? I don't know if I'll be able to handle this. But Amy's on her way who coaches me and keeps me on the straight narrow there. She is look to your right now you can. Now, I feel better now I don't have to. Yeah. Not flying solo where we were talking about her. She's a student the very difficult to find a student. She's an a student. Yeah. And it's also the way the media has changed in just the time since I've been in office. With newspapers losing a little bit of their influence, all the social media stuff you've seen a martyr business, and she's really been able to transition into this kind of new age of the way, people communicate and way, we gotta push push information out. So last week speaking of Amy she helped me with the story on Narcan, which is one of my pet projects because I've watched these folks dead on the sidewalk in this Narcan for folks don't know. You could describe it as a miracle drug. It's been around since the fifties. I did not know that fits did. You know that I did not I I've only known about it the last few years so Christ. So we had seventy seven thousand opioid, and I commend the governor for staying behind this and getting funded for this. So they pass out a free nor can last week, and I went to several clinics a shooting a piece both for Katie radio here. And for my sites sparked because I get so angry fits that. People revolt and scream and yell because people are getting something free in essence arguing that. They should let them die on the sidewalk, and I've never seen anything like it in my life that we would rather have people die. Do you have this guy? Sounds like I grabbed a guy he was picking up you got like five or six packets anarchy. And he's a baseball coach. And he had watched people die in his family. Listen, what brings you here? Well, I I saw on the news and a lot of coverage with governor wolf. Allowing for this free narc hand.

"The inside story with Marty Griffin. Fantastic column written in the post gazette by solid dean, who's icon. I'm always like Sala. He's just a smooth cat. Legendary Pittsburgh political figure solidly dean. Anyway, he's on the school board, and he points out what I have said for years that until Pittsburgh addresses it schools, Pittsburgh won't be great. And until Pittsburgh addresses the achievement gap between black and white students. Pittsburgh will not be great. It's kind of amazing coming from a school board member admitting their faults. Any kind of points out. What we've said all along that they they fixate on trivial in the menial Chick-fil-A marathon sponsorships that was their big discussion whether they should saw on Chick-fil-A, they they the beta this for a month. He's right on. And whether. This should be guns on the security guards. When they've never had an issue like that in the Pittsburgh public schools, but they won't focus on how to fix the schools in the biggest issue in Pittsburgh public schools, which is holding back fits burger test. Scores are horrible the horrendous. They get a big banner headline when they have slight games. Anyway. Sahlin nailed it. One thing. He says our society guarantees young black men and women is that if you are not educated and well prepared for the future your future will consist of a life of poverty crime prison and premature death. Let's take man that solid being always enjoyed him. Anyway, we're trying to get him. He's in a doctor's appointment, right? Yeah. Lisi's honest, at least he points it out. And by the way, I've said this from day one. This is an issue with Mardi Gra from day. One on this talk show, if you have a thirty to forty to fifty percent difference forty to fifty point difference and test scores between white and black students the racist out there say, well, that's because black people this or that. When the fact is is because there's a problem with the education system as a problem with the community is a problem with the teaching system has a problem with the schools, and by the way. Was I talking to shooting a fantastic story of for my sight sparked in older dice highschool. Which has a lot of smart kids, and I was talking to one of the teachers, and she said where would you have gone because I went to central Catholic and Sacred Heart elementary? I said I would have ended up at Peabody which was bad when I was growing up, and it was bad when they shut it down thirty years later. And that's always been my problem with a Pittsburgh public schools is they won't fix it. They've had at least three decades to do it. And they've had billions of dollars and they've had superintendents every one of those genius. And what happens is the test gap. The score gap between black and white students gets wider and wider and wider and wider. And if you're white kid that's fine because you're going to Carnegie Mellon, but if you're black student, and you're you're an average test scores thirty to forty points, lower your in bad place. And solid in points. That out today we're going to try and snake him here. In a doctor's appointment a couple of things that kind of the museum befuddled me. So the the big. Outrace last night once again. All the Golden Globe. Best director nominees are men. Okay. There's only five slots, okay? So in the mardi Griffin school of pragmatic thinking what if all the best films last year were directed by men. Why do we have to insert a woman? Oh me too. That's sexist and misogynist. Okay. Why can't we just be honest? What if the films were all directed by men? It's just some noxious to me that we live in a world. Now where everything now is judged by how many women were nominated. Well, what if a woman didn't do a good film last year? Chris says so we award based on gender gender. Affirmative action. Everybody gets a trophy. Barbara's? So maybe no film directed by women was good. But we have to give one away give one away. Anyway, look, this isn't life or death stuff. And unless spending a whole lot of time on it. But it just jumped out at me as. Now, this is a big deal. Now, they're really ridiculous thing. That's going on is that the United States. The United States military responded this week to what it calls. Russia's unlawful in the stabilizing actions in the Ukraine and elsewhere by pushing back against Moscow on the season in the air. This is what I think is sophomore can juvenile seventh grade stuff in the second US military operation as many days. A US air force OC one thirty five observation aircraft conducted an extraordinary flight under the open skies treaty to reaffirm US commitment to the Ukraine. And then we sent a missile destroyer. Near the Peter the great bay and the sea Japan to irk Russia. We also are starting to sail a warship into the Black Sea. I just think it's just childish. So what kids do? They know every single ship. We have they know every single piece of military hardware. We have they know how many Mishel missiles, we have exactly how many. So they do something we don't like instead of responding in an economic way, which might hurt us. It's a direct response in a military way, which could lead to World War. We like big boys puff out our chests and flying airplane over in airspace. That's gonna irk them. Silly. Childish it juvenile am all the way this is not Trump's doing this just what the military does because they're big boys. And they've all these toys and get in a room and say, what do we do general while we can't fire missiles at the Russians? No, we can't. Well, it's just run the ship into the Black Sea and move the guns around a little bit and fly a helicopter around. Okay. That's what we'll do. And so then the headline reads in a message DeRosa, the US military flexes his muscles on the season in the air. Really? Early. Is good as it gets childish, man. So rather than when when Trump cancelled his meeting he was supposed to have at the g twenty with Putin. What does that accomplish? So he stomps out of a meeting because he was angry about Russian aggression in Ukraine. When it makes sense to have the meeting to figure out why they have the Russian aggression and how to get on the back. But instead in this childish display. He canceled a meeting, and by the way, this isn't just Trump all presidents do this because we have no real leverage. We just don't in because military action really can't happen because we could all die. Right. Right. We get back. We're talking about CNN in another bomb threat. We're gonna talk about big time star Kevin Hart. We write back. Whatever.

"Eighty K A the inside story with Marty Griffin. Happy friday. Christmas shopping at the no, you know, you're gonna do it online. Yeah. No, I don't I haven't done anything. I've gone through some list with my son and my daughters. And we kinda came to this decision to. Do most of it online. You know? I. I think it's a great time of year. I wanna I wanna play this video. But I wanna Jessica a gene Janine hung so long. Go janine. Hi marty. I have a comment regarding the Narcan. This meme. Narcan saves lives. And it provides hope it provides hope for families and the attic. I went to recovery, right? And how little disregard we have for human life. These days in society that the the story you told about the girl. Whoever does the people were taking Southie fat makes my heart. So sad Sophie's passed out on the street out cold is all on video. Yeah. Southeast how it breaks my heart. You know that we have that little disregard society for human life. I have two friends that have had to administer Narcan. Do they're grown adults. I'll call them. They were your kids. They're not kid, but these two adults are now productive citizens of society ago because they knew their mother had to administer Narcan and CPR and it broke their heart. When they finally got their scruples together up there, and we're clean for a while. No that their mother had to do that. And they saw the pain that their mother was going through. What I don't understand is what you pointed out is that we reached a point in our culture where we want to pick and choose who lives in dies in somehow heroines supposed to be grimy in alcoholism in obesity on grimy. So we'll treat them. And and we won't look at the fact that they're you're you're you're this is because you ate so much or you're in you're in rehab seven time because you drank so much we're gonna take care of you or you're getting cancer treatment because you smoke so much, but we're cool with that we all smoke and drink, and we're cool. We're all, but because you're a junkie let you die in the street. That's what it I'll tell you. Another thing. These are human beings that do not think when they're in high school. What do you want to be? Oh, I think I'll be a heroin addict. I don't think. So I've seen it firsthand. Yes. I've probably done. I've lived at twelve interceptions. Yup. I don't I don't judge on these things anymore. I'm the same way about alcoholics. So you want me to get you into rehab. Let's go. Yup. You have an eating disorder treatment. Let's go alcohol seems to be a little fashionable. You know? Oh, let's go drink tea party party that before you know, it you watch that person. He had twelve bears you thinking. Yeah. And you've been out so many times with that person. It's fascinating that you should say this. That's why they've always said. That is so hard to send a drunk driver to prison because even if it's the fourth offense because most of the folks on that jury have been hammered in driven. They're sitting there thinking. This. Let them slide. I've done that. Right. I get all of it. I absolutely want to present get all of it. All I'm suggesting is if there's a program that allows us to save lives, we have to take advantage of that program. Absolutely. And if we decide we're not gonna do that, we're in a bad place in our culture. We're now China, we're now China, China, you know, if you had two kids they did not want. They did not want to have too many children in the culture. So they didn't want little girls because they could reproduce, right? They would throw the little girls in the river. Seriously. I know I know. Okay. I'm at work. Take care. Nicely. Kevin the same. Kevin I fought with once already. Hey is this a refi that he called back to go another round Kevin from where? Hi, kelly. Yes, sir. See I didn't call yet. All right. I got a problem with it. Because if it's one time it's an accident twice. Okay. Yeah. But after that when they're running ten ties to the same hall in a month. Now, it gets a little ridiculous. They need to go. Get help agree by the way. He's right in. Here's my plan. So finally, somebody with some common sense calls. So there's a law right now that they're trying to get passed in Harrisburg, which is right along the lines of what Kevin's saying. So what it would do is Kevin and you're spot on. If I come to your house in grow deed, and I save your life with Narcan. You have a choice you go to jail or you go to rehab. That's it and you detox in jail. You're right. Kevin. I agree with you. I mean, I I don't have a problem with somebody stop. I mean, if you're going. If fun cut out of rehab three times for DUI. Is he still tried? I don't know. I'm help them. No. I've seen it by the way. I know people who have done that I've helped them. So I mean, I have to I was in a fire department. I've talked to you before of course, I love. Yeah. I ten classmates killed because alcohol my gosh. And that was before we even graduated we had one die of a heart attack. That's amazing, man. But I mean, it's not the problem. The problem is getting off of it. I agree. The problem is you gotta make him. Go do. Firefighters. There have been firefighters on the fire truck on heroin overdose. I mean, it's across all professions. Newspeople lawyers doctors it's a horrible epidemic. Hey, look at the trucking indus- demand. They've cleaned that up having daily have sixty five thousand openings Kevin sixty five thousand openings they can't get people to try trucks of paying him one hundred thousand a year. Well, it's because the hardest part is you can't find a good meal anywhere. It's so hard to it's it's a hard job to you're having problems finding parking anymore. Nobody wants you to park anywhere. But that's somebody. That's self inflicted because they throw stuff out of the truck because it's difficult work. You're never at home, and it's just anyway completely different conversation. But I appreciate your call. So I also wanted to. Tell Lynn than a manning up when a man. All right. Lynn, we come back. And when you hear this tape this video of this guy took was punishing his daughter for bullying, I want you to hear this sexy injury. I wanted to hear from parents when we come back. Griffin..

"With Marty Griffin. Pittsburgh. Maybe it's cold outside. This song is being. The yanked from at least one radio station that my my wife tells me my daughter's choral group was told us before it happening this Cleveland station. That it's inappropriate and a lotta singing and choral. I want to talk about this. I wanna play a song songs written in nineteen forty four. Where do we stop Santa baby? What are we gonna do with that very kind of a sexual song? Right. Kind of a sexy song, I sleep say ban that. Every single black and white Humphrey Bogart movie. With it's innuendo and male dominated overtones and undertones and. Fascinating one savage. We're gonna talk about that. Man. We're gonna talk about a George H W Bush all class all class. Unbelievable. He really missed ninety four though, it's pretty cool was seventy three years. She said, he's the only man she ever kissed that amazing. It was amazing. Kinda cool. Kareem hunt. Anybody do you watch a video? Kinda despicable ten months ago. But this is what happens in big business Moonen NFL's big business. It happened ten months ago. Nothing happened to him. And the video is hard to watch. But how is it any different unless moon this? Oh. Please. Miller Riley, Charlie rose, how is it different than Matt Lauer any of these guys. RV? It's not just the NFL and he's black. So let's give it a different matter. That's what happens to people don't they're all the same to me. They all should go. They should all should go. Immediately. Kareem hunt in case, you don't know this legacy Twenty-three place for the chiefs. She's a gifted athlete. TMZ shocking. They reveal his video over the weekend. Or maybe it was over the weekend. Kick and shoving pushing this girl. She's on the kick series tackled in their looked like he was hammered hammered. Yeah. She was nineteen years old. Happen ten months ago. The NFL did nothing. They they knew what happened. They said. They couldn't get the tape yet. TMZ could kind of sad TMZ got the tape because TMZ writes, a check. NFL check get to take them on. I mean. We're gonna talk about that too. They all have to go any man exhibiting any tendencies like this. But we hear a story about an NFL player. We start to categorize them mentor. They all do. So why don't we categorize every white male that runs every major American business? The most recent story about les Moonves is unbelievably vile cheese. Sick a guide major problems. So we're gonna talk about that as well. We're gonna talk about. America's addiction to outrage fascinating. Hell now, we're so. But dictated by outreach. We'll talk about the wall. So now, they're saying they're gonna shut down the government over this wall in the next couple of weeks. Are you willing to shut down the government over this war on the wall at the border? Come on. Hey who shops for Christmas in your house? My wife does everything I used to take one day off. And we go together maybe do that this year, maybe. But generally, she does it all but most of it comes to the door. Now. I mean, most people don't leave the house if you're sitting home, and it's snowing or it's cold. And you're head to the mall in packages. And you know that everything is at your fingertips. I watch my wife last night order groceries. Online. Oh, the store anymore. So do you at home or at the store? I'm curious. It's happening more and more and more. That's why businesses so difficulties. Several brick and mortar stores that call the old fashioned Sears, KMart all us. All right. So I'm I'm really kind of jazzed up about this. Baby. It's cold outside a controversy. And I wanna play some of the songs, and then I wanna go right to your opinions. So we we pulled up the song. It was written in nineteen forty four for those who were offended nineteen forty four. Sixteen years before I was more. Come on. And people were angry about the song. They're pulling it from Airways. You have not listened to the song d Morton, right? This is the Dean Martin version. Really?.

"Eighty K A the inside story with Marty Griffin. And good morning. Good morning Stony in for our friend. That is mardi. I just heard a little thing in my ear go. I was like, okay. Something had a button. Bush welcome to the program. Nice to have you here. It's not pretty morning at all. Is not a pretty morning. I was telling John earlier this morning. It was pouring in the north hills. And in loud rain, you know, like like hurricane kind of rain. And so went to take the dog out. And he was he was having. None of it. It was because it was making a lot of noise in the yard or pool cover. It makes a lot of noise. And he was like I'm not going out here. So no, no come on. You gotta go. So we went we found a way I found a way to get them out. And he was like, oh, okay. But it wasn't that he was afraid of the rain. It was the noise that the rain was making now I don't know that we're going to have to worry about that. Because as John and I were saying we got snow in our forecast flurries. Maybe dustings and things like that. But the be ready for that. I mean, it's going to be really cold just as I was you get to this point of the year where you go. You know, it's it's not that bad outside. You know? It's fall is nice. It's crisp wonderful mornings. Yeah. And it's it's in the thirties. But now like tonight it's going to get down to twenty four that. That's when you start going. Oh, the stakes. Oh, this stinks. So get ready for it. Who knows by next week? We could be back up in the sixties the way to whether it's been going up and down. But today you've got a lot of people travelling. It's Friday a lot of people still celebrating victory. Steelers win yesterday. It was you know, it wasn't that really that big of a game. But it became such an event with what with the way they played and the way it started with back to back touchdowns. And then it just never it. Just never finished. It was it was pretty good and the Steelers get a nice nice break now to to recover their bones and bruises and Antonio Brown can. Keepdriving fast on McKnight, the best the best response. I got to. This was a friend of mine. Sydney rajko. She's from here. She's a she's a singer. She lives in Nashville and Sydney wrote. I'm not so surprised that. That Abe was doing a hundred miles an hour on McKnight. What I'm surprised at is that he didn't catch a red light. Exactly, where's that stretch on McKnight road? And I have done, you know, I I'm guilty of that too. Where you sometimes traffic gets insane, especially on McKnight road in your chest. Please let's go I pulled out of one lane and just charge down one way. Not at a hundred miles an hour. But that Porsche here's is like, you know, zero to sixty in four seconds. So I'm sure he I'm sure he hit pretty hard for not a very long. Stretch. But nevertheless, the thing is with with a b if he's doing one hundred miles an hour. The way he runs and he's so fast one hundred miles an hour in a car to him seems like myth about sixty because that's. That's not a guy works. But anyway, thank goodness. Nobody was hurt. And and that's the end of that story. But it was just a crazy stories like now when you go by where that took place. Every day. I will always say they ought to change it to Antonio Brown boulevard. And they very well. May if the season continues the way it's gone. Our numbers here. Always good to hear from you. About so many things such tragedy. Such terrible things going on the shootings in California. Again, the fires in California. Again, there is there's violence happening in a lot of places, and it it's really I think get you scary gets you into a scary condition. I don't know if you've noticed this. But I I noticed this morning people in the last couple of days, but especially this morning and it had nothing to do with the football game. I people are driving not not fast or recklessly, but in an angry manner. Have you noticed that people will pull up close to you behind you? And then they just swing out really fast and take it. There's there's an anger on the roads, it feels that way. Nobody's attacked anybody. But I had that feeling of people are just generally mad. And boy, that's not a that's not a very secure feeling. Want to talk about how these how these shootings have become so numerous now. That they become part of the news cycle. It's and it is part of just the news. It's like, okay. Here's this story. "The inside story with Marty Griffin. Heartbreaking stuff. Oh, we ever do is talk about healing. Seasoning. All we ever do is talk about recovering. Oh, we ever do is talk about rebuilding. Talk about go fund me pages. Memorials? Handguns. Mental illness and who did this. And who did what why? The mass shooting country. Oh my gosh. Just when our mind starts to clear, the fog just a little bit. What happened? The carnage the ripping of our hearts out. We moved to California in it happens. Again, the redundancy of it. There were done at sea of it is, hey, John. What's your microphone number? John chamois still in your own misdealing for second. He said something very poignant. I hate to put you on the spot. But you read me a quote. Yep. I mean, so much what you said, it's so significant can you kind of even if you have to paraphrase. Yeah. The quote was basically it's going to be a long hard road. But we're gonna get through this together as a community. We will come out on the other side. There was a quote from the mayor of Thousand Oaks this morning in California. But you could take that quote and probably find it in every in the wake of every one of these mass shootings. It's the same thing every single week, you know, and and I was just writing this not mardi. It's shock anguish. Anger, morn, repeat? Yeah. And we do I it's it's getting old. It's long old. Thanks, buddy. Your he said that really struck a chord with me. And he's right. So you have the same people saying the same things, by the way, I'm not trying to berate anybody or diminish the value of that sort of a statement in what he's supposed to say, you know, our community we're done. So ver we're gonna roll up the streets. So now we have. What does it tease enough thirteen? Then let's play this CBS piece. I want to hear from witnesses. And then I wanna talk to you about where we're gonna go as a culture as a country. I mean, do do they have to happen every day before we finally do something as a nation. Collectively? Do they they have to happen every hour. What what's it gonna take? 'cause we just roll past these. And the. Mass shooting in California woke up really early. This morning is four o'clock and I start seeing eleven wounded okay bar shooting, California. Then to dead. Do you have the piece? Yeah. Listen to this from CBS. It's.

"A the inside story with Marty Griffin. Third hour already every end side story. I'm Lynn Hayes freelance sitting in here in the big chair, the mardi Griffin share mardi as as you know, dealing with a lot of health challenges and the one thing mardi does have to do in. This time is take care of mardi. So he's doing just that. And mean, meantime, I'm trying to take care of the inside story, and you know, the more I think about this meeting between Kanye west and the president of the United States. So many other thoughts go through my head. Now, if you're the president of all of the people that you could sit down and meet with to get some insight to get some perspective. Would would you choose kind. Yeah. West I'm thinking, I would need six three nine one one zero two. Oh, what do you think? Hi, Teresa and beaver. I lynn. Hollowing thing world is in such tales right now. And they're worried about thirteen or over a person out trick or treating. But you know, I think it's a a. A sign of our culture that rather than reinforcing these young kids with hope and positive reinforcement. We're doing me. That's just mean, especially the finest punitive. Well, and you know, what there's such a fallout. I mean because kids what happens to kids when they are kids stays with them for a lifetime. Whether they realize it or not it stays there. So you've got a thirteen year old kid who's now in handcuffs because he had a costume in a bag of candy. That's going to have a detrimental effect on that kid. Absolutely. You. Learn your parenting skills in your adult skills, when you're a child by being around people who reinforce you not put handcuffs on you. Yeah. I think is a sad state of affairs. You know, a couple of years ago was people putting needles and razor blades into the trick or treat candy. And now we wanna limit them. You know, at some point we probably just need to rethink that Halloween. Holly. Today as it is. Although it's interesting because I think I read somewhere not too long ago that second Christmas we as a nation. Spend more money on Halloween than any other holiday. Correct. Nasty thing is the sign of our culture. Also, what's going on in the broader culture is being shown in this Halloween issue. Absolutely. Hate theresa. Thanks so much for your call today. Appreciate you and one eight six six nine one one zero two hours a number. I men talking about a lot of things right now. We're talking about kind. Yeah. Hi, Linda in moon. You on TV for years and all of your reporting, very professional. I just wanna say first of all about this trick or treating, you know, I mean, pick your battles. There's so many people selling drugs and everything else. I mean, why are we gonna rest children at their games for ticker train? That's underway. Yeah. You're not arrested them for Jags bet for Canada. Right. Right. Right. But I'm just saying I or they busy enough arresting Geico for yeah. For dr. But also for calling you was President Trump. I think it's kind of a publicity thing. I'm not a big pond. Fan myself, but I would much rather see the president had lunch with him them with someone like, Al Sharpton. I mean, that's just my opinion. I wanted to say before I let you go. Don't you turn your radio down a little bit? Awesome. Why would you rather kind? Yeah. Over Al Sharpton, Liker love, Al Sharpton. I think. Is. He's a troubled person. Love. People today. And I think that's who they want to really try to get into it in Chicago, you know, like the younger people, see you're out. What's wrong? I think L Sharpton days are just they're gone. Interesting interesting. You think that I I would've agreed with you? Up until recently. And just recently. I started watching Sharpton Sunday morning talk show, and I guess now he's going into Saturday's or something. But I do find that a lot of the things he talks about on that show are very relevant, and they're very global. And so I'm not sure I don't I'm struggling with this. I'm not sure that I want the president to meet with either one of them things. Crazy doesn't. It does. Indeed. Hey, Linda, thanks so much for your call today. Indeed. You're listening to the inside story here on gay gay radio. I'm Lynn Hayes freelance sitting in for mardi Griffin. We're talking about Kiei west meeting with the president this afternoon and Wallace from east. Liberty is on the phone. I wallace. Hello. How're you doing? Well, how are you? Yes. Just I just think it's totally appropriate that Smith. Meets with the president. I mean when you elect a clown, you expect a circus. We're really not like to see the president meet with anybody credible. Because you know, what's coming from it. We know what type of man the president as I mean, he's been called everything from water racist, homophobic, to whatever. And I mean, all those people are saying it can't be wrong. But I mean, no matter who he makes what what what good is to come out of it, really. And see that's one of those things I struggle with because I understand exactly your point. And I would never expect anything to come out of this meeting, but there are times. And and sometimes I feel this way at work in particular. There are times that I feel like I have to put my concerns on the table. Whether you listen to them or not whether you acknowledge that they are legitimate at the end of the day. I can walk away and say, I told you what I thought. You know, what makes way back when they used to say how we've been in this country how long and we've been putting our cards on the table. We've been four nor Howard south for. I don't know how many. Much different. When you think about the situation some people rent today what they're going through. So much for pour your heart out or on your heart out. Yeah. That's like the chicken go onto the war in, you know, demand of some. Not going to happen. Okay. Woke up and realized that I hear you all is. Hey, thanks so much for your call today. This is really a tough one. You know, I mean talk to the president not talk to the president or who should talk to the president the other thing that came across came across my desk. Like I had this big desk. Malania Trump says she is one of the most bullied person in the world. I could say this is quoting her. I could say that I'm the most bullied person in the world the first lady, so she's talking about the way the public pushes back at her. It's funny. Because when I I read this I thought she was talking about somebody else. You're listening to the inside story on NewsRadio ten twenty. I'm lynn. Hayes freelance sitting in vermoti. "Twenty k the inside story with Marty Griffin. Gosh. Wiles is in the studio here with you. Nice to be here. I don't like the circumstances under which I am here that Marty's not feeling good today having some treatment and good for him. Get back, you're my friend. But in the meantime, I got your till noon today here on NewsRadio ten twenty. Katie k ace Tony Richards here on what looks like a beautiful day. Thank goodness for Larry. And John talking about the weather because if you look at this, and you had the time you might say, hey, let's go out and have a picnic, but there's probably going to be some storm within the some storms maybe within the next couple hours here. So keep an eye out. Is it actually is a very beautiful mornings. Those coming in this morning. It's humid breezy. And now, of course, you've got the sun. I it's it's it's really a nice day. We'll get through this. The weather's gonna change a little bit with cool down the evenings are getting downright chilly. I mean when it gets down into the forties. I'm like, okay. I want to do to sit anymore. But here we are in October. And it's nice. If there is a little chill in the air today. Because tonight, it is as Mike Ling always says I night in Pittsburgh. And what a big way to start the season with. I still can't I don't feel comfortable saying the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals. Opening a great what a great season starter for the penguins tonight. They got they got the capitals tonight, they got the Canadia on Saturday. And then the next game is at Sunday with with the Las Vegas. So the flour comes back into town. It's going to be great great way to start the season. And the way some of our sports teams have been doing, you know, the pirates demise in the Steelers. What else going on it's great to have penguin hockey back to that? And I'll be talking. This morning to one of the all time hockey lovers and one of the great broadcasters in this town to have Douglas from 93.7 the fan are FM station. And also, we'll be talking some politics. Josh Wolff is going to be with me this morning and just a little bit here. Young man running for the Pennsylvania house and. It's been fun talking with him. We started back in the spring when he announced and he's a young, man. And I mean, young guy he's in his twenties running for the Pennsylvania state house, and we'll see how it's going for him. With the midterms just about a month away a little bit more than a month way. Also, of course today, the FBI report has gone to the Senate, it's a single document and the big question in my mind is how long before it leaks. And I say, certainly by noon, we will have this story. As John was saying the Republicans see it for an hour. Then they take it. Then it gives Democrats David for an hour hours up. And that's that's it. I I wouldn't I wouldn't doubt if it is a single piece of paper, but somebody you know, is going to take their phone out. And it's going to get leaked to the press. And we'll be seeing what's in there. It seems to me. That I think a lot of minds are already made up will determine that. We'll we'll see that. Also, I wanna share with you. You probably given thought that if I have I know you have how Brett cabinet on could have avoided all of this controversy, and it's actually a very simple fix. It's it's out of the bag now it's out of his hands now, but he could have he could have really handled this in a much better way. That would have just shut down everything we'll talk about that. And what you want to talk about to will the Republicans and Mitch McConnell's decision to put the cavenaugh vote to the supreme court up affect the way you vote in the midterms just a little bit more than a month away will will their actions change how you act.
