"It's neil young's archives volume two thousand nine hundred seventy two two nine hundred seventy six. We have with us ed martos. Andy greene rob sheffield and david brown to talk about this box. Set andy maybe set us up with both the significance of neil young's archives as a thing. Judging by this rate. I guess he is about ten more archives at least to go and then also just this incredible period. I think this is one of my personal one of my favorite periods by any artist. Ever so they have a box focusing on. It is pretty dreamlike. But andy go. It's a really amazing thing. 'cause back in the eighties. He started talking about archives of box sets and it was every interview he gave for years. But he didn't put it out intil. Two thousand seven endows the start of his career through harvest which is great stuff but my favorite period is the mid seventies and this is the period when he wrote songs at a psychotic rate. He wrote songs so fast that there are many albums that he shelved completely and he finally did the seventy two to seventy six. It's ten cds. There sixty three songs had never been heard before which is astounding because skied an album. Or two for your back than antes released the time since then. So this is the mother load of sort of the four best years maybe of his career at a songwriter. And when you think of it being the best four years of one of the best players of all time you start to grasp the significance of this project rob. Maybe you can explain. I presume you agree that this was certainly a peak period enough to agree that peak period for neil. What's great about this period for you of new young. Well this is a period. Washington, D.C. - House Approves Bill To Create Smithsonian Museum For American Latinos

"A Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino is one step closer to becoming a reality. The House approved a bill last week with bipartisan support in favor of it. And while the road to the museum opening is still long, the bill is sparking celebration and conversation within Latino communities. Here's NPR's Isabella Gomez. Salsa singer Celia Cruz. The traditions of the Dialogues, Martos Holiday alone is worth and the farm workers movement. The Smithsonian Museum of the American Latino can potentially explore Ah lot of the contributions of latte next people in the United States, but there are still logistics to work out. The bill now goes to the Senate. Then it gets signed by the White House, then the government to determine how much the museum will cost and where it will be. The location is going to be the biggest concern for me. That's a story the Rodriguez who's been lobbying for the creation of this museum for the past 15 years. And he knows where in Washington he wants it to be. You cannot Not be on the national Mall. There's also the cost, half of which will likely come from the federal government. The rest will be from donors. We all remember stories of how really stepped up for the American resume. We need to make sure that we have our donors like an overwintering. Bodegas estimates that building the museum from Scratch could take another 10 years, which gives lots of time to air some skepticism. Can one museum really encapsulate so many different cultures and experiences? Will it expand on what? Letting me that or let next identity looks like for Afro Latinos and indigenous people? My immediate reaction is I'm nervous simply because The branding of Latino lad, especially by stands. Broadcasting doesn't reflect the fact that Afro Latinos exists. That's got the knack Liston from Boston who studies the history of music in Latin ex culture. She says she thinks the museum is a good opportunity to finally have some tough conversations on race. Gender immigration. I think this is Ah, very exciting Start. If I'm gonna be honest, I do think that there's definitely a way for us to get it right. It just requires a level of honestly, I think some people are now becoming aware of that we didn't have before. And she's not the only one with some pause. Bala Santos is a museum educator in Chicago. She says she doesn't want the Smithsonian to brush over the struggles. Immigrants face when they come here. With an overly optimistic message. I would love to have Ah latte next museum where you could say they're actually structural inequities here. And it isn't about cease up. Whether it's about how are we setting up our society's? That's why museum champion is toward the Rodriguez says. Now is the time for people to raise their voices and explore those tensions. These are all historical moments they need to be laid out. It's not a story that's going to be very clean and print. That's not what we're trying to do, and it's not on the shoulders of one single Smithsonian Institution to tell that story. Well, a Santos says Now is the time for all museums across the US to reevaluate how they convey Latin ex

So we let our TV viewing kind of build up, and we're here to run through all of it from the past. I'm so back in action to with my whole life being in shambles. Like, the one thing I got TV back because it's like when you're in a relationship, and you're trying to match the TV schedules and TV preferences. It. Doesn't work. Now back watching my TV. And I mean, we gotta bang all these shows outnumber us John for them. It's right. The people for you at home listening right now. So we'll go back to the Halloween season. The haunting of how still hardly hill house hill house. Zoo all the house on haunted hill, if that's what the fucking movie was called a thousand times in a row. I don't care what the book was called. I don't care what this is the haunting of hell house sound stupid and is annoying. And it's a mouthful, and it makes me feel like, I'm dyslexic. So it's the house onto to know monkey it's fair. But it's I've said it, I think I said this with something else recently too. But it's one of those things where it's like like gnocchi, I say differently this time, and I'm gonna get it. Right. Say route. And maybe sometimes I say round, I definitely do radiator radiator, which makes no sense Ellen's crazy. But hey, listen. I don't give a fuck, man. I make up my own rules in my own name. So this is called the house on haunted. That's what it's called. It is a terrible name. And that's about the only bad thing about it. Otherwise, I found this to be an exceptionally delightful. Binge is very very enjoyed it. And I don't even typically like scary things. I'll vizier for this is one good because this is one where I wouldn't have watched it probably if it wasn't for watchos than you. So I again, I really really grind it. I hit John with a pitch me. And he was in. I it's tough scary stuff is tough because it's. It's like very hit or miss. You know, like you go too much down like the horror movie angle, and it becomes like silly, which I enjoy like the, Freddie Krueger Krueger's the world Friday the thirteenth. That's fine. I like those kind of movies and shit, but they're they're goofy. They're funny. They're silly. They're very much jar do bit like slasher saucers to me slashers. Don't me so action movies don't want. I don't particularly enjoy them. But I'm not scared by them. Right. The paranormal terrifies wall, right because the paranormal like way Israel. So it wouldn't go throughout the course of filming. But eventually Brian main Roger Taylor, the legendary members of Queen incorporated as much of Freddie as they could. And it's mixed in with my voice a little bit here, and there and another singer named Mark Marto incredible voice. But it's done fairly seamlessly feel because I thought if you are lip singing, it doesn't look like it's so it's you singing, and then in some of the times, it is you and some of the times, but you're always singing always giving it my all. But it's it's mixed in there. Finally with a whole lot of Freddie merge with wearing the teeth was that uncomfortable. It must've been at first very uncomfortable. I did the teeth took. A while to get used to. It's hard to talk in them hard to sing in them and hard to kiss in them. I appreciated them so much by the end of it. I just I felt naked without them. They were ready and. "I understand why that's problematic but other than that it's super SCR the show is super scripted. I don't know. I don't know because I'm like TV nerd, but like I really really pay attention to the sound and to the editing of the show, and I could just tell I could hear when it's like when it's like an interview that they chop up for them to say, whatever they need producers need them to say. And this show is all of this show. So is that I guess most reality shows are that. But I'm like come on. This is like Riddick like that scene in the first fucking episode where they're walking through the Sokolow and Mexico City, and they're doing this this past tech this like these two white literally white lady from New York and this other white Mexican who she's engaged to or walking down the soco. And they see these people do this Disley Aztec ritual dance. And they stand in the middle. Like, it was all a coincidence. I'm like how did they get drone shots? Like they were ready bit. You know, like, that's that's that's the thing that stopped me from continue to watch it. But again, then we start getting all this messages from listeners. I'm like fuck it. Okay. I'm going to watch the whole thing that scene is so problematic one because we don't know we don't have all the information about how attic retail function, and their dances and everything all that shit is an invention from the nineteenth century. A matter say all these people dress with to to recognize to celebrate that aspect past this in a way like as much as it's a source of pride for a lot of people. Like, it's also show for fuck interests in people try to show off their identity and their fucking quote unquote, authencity by doing things like that by trying to teach me about fucking the Martos a whole episode about the other mortals bench itself. Fucking grows. It's so gross. You have to finish it. You have to finish it. It just gets worse. It's disgusting. And by the way, my show here in Breckenridge is called. It's a day of the dead show. Come on over I've never celebrated day the dead in real life because I'm Mexican and because I need to pay my rent, I do like this, and that's fucking real. It's real. So sometimes I I see this kind of. Shit. But then again, I'm like, well, I'm doing the same shit. But at least I'm aware of it. Okay. Ridicule to like, you do research first of all and the critical about some of these ideas. These people are just wanting to show that Mexico's hip plays where you can be offended by fucking getting Olympia and Sokolow which what the fuck does that. And by celebrating the mortals and getting drunk. It's just like. Met gravel Puto stowaway. Again. I watched like three days. Yeah. Well, that's that. Let's see what else. What else you wanna talk about? Is that it or? The governor. Commerce. You know, like, I'm glad we talked about it. And I appreciate everybody that was reaching like, oh my God. We can't wait for Latinos. Who lunch to listen to to watch that show? But. Oh, you know, what I it was a task, man. It was a fucking task. You know, what I did end up finishing was Elissa Edwards show dancing Queen. I coulda passed. The second episode. You didn't get past it. I mean, I put it on the background. I was working in the studio. But it's just it's a dance mom show. I cannot believe I was actually talking to from the quotas radio. And she's like, yeah. Those women those dance moms on the show. That's how a lot of Texan women are. And she said that she couldn't really watch the show because it was like really triggering her like seeing those women talk down to people the way that they do. "I've had a lot of concern followers messaging me and asking if I'm just all right. So it just want to clear that up and say, yes, I'm okay. So basically what happened was I was in LA I was running off pretty much thirty hours here comes to Biddle. Law here comes the big lie. The way she's talking so much lower than this. It's an insufferable video to watch her, but we'll just give you her excuse. I was struggling to say, awake. Even when I was getting my hair and makeup down, I was literally sitting there like falling asleep like I could barely keep my eyes open. I've been throwing myself into work way more than ever. And also I have the kids, my kids, the majority of the time she told her subscribers. It's literally been like a nonstop on the go kind of thing, but he's so she says his jetlagged and she passed out at the party. She asleep and Carter out on a stretcher. Totally, honestly. It's everyone's favorite excuse of exhaustion. No, honestly, like there's nothing to be embarrassed about drinking too much. It happens to everyone. Like if you'd been more honest like, honestly, I would like you more and like I didn't really realize what she felt the need to like deliver a statement, but then Margaret told me that other crashes followed her as well. They should. I just like leave it. Let's talk about waiting up with a pit. You get the golden ticket to willy Wonka chocolate Kylie jenner's factory and the just and by the way she turned on good for her. She turned one modeling gig for good American into like any invitation, a follow from most of the sisters like that's impressive and how it all could just crumble. In one, I just think of, you know, when you wake up like you did something a little weird that I, they give a huge pit for like two days. Imagine the size of the pit. This girl has she lost the Kardashians as followers as friends. She probably cover of the Daily Mail on a stretcher, like stop. She's probably not getting another good American campaign. I can tell you that much it looking likely. It's not looking likely, but honestly, she did it. Yourself. You got the golden take in and you couldn't hold your alcohol or who even knows what it actually was. She saying Josh, in worst zooming over right, but it could have been something entirely different. But if she was exhausted, why would should be face down because she wasn't because she was because she was sleeping. That's what I was thinking. Maybe like why would her shoes off? And she had like black thing like it was just so clearly and like her hair was must have so clearly like just drinking too much getting fucked up, which just like not a big deal. Nobody you don't do that kind. Of course, that card actions do not need that stain like you are now a stain. I know it's like I think it's a little harsh of them to just like excommunicate her, but I don't. She probably was barely invited to begin with yet, say girl came to your birthday party who was like a friend of a friend or just like mcquaid. They followed her on Instagram's alike. Okay. You haven't like you followed her and she has a pop and Instagram search. She has kids. I'm sure it's all cute. Goodness. And to come to your birthday party Marto everyone said they still follow her Margaret. Sullivan says, they'll follow her. Some of them on followed her. It's not me. It's the morning toasters. I read it there. So lake cod, so unreliable anyway, some of them follow her, some of them on followed her and. You are bringing the ambulance Kylie jenner's birthday party like she doesn't need that. She just from twenty one. Yeah. There's already like so much like so many people outside, like just as k on this hard actions don't party hard like no, and they don't Kim to the swig of forty two, but there was nothing in about it was empty. She thought we couldn't see, but the flash reflected and I saw that there was nothing in there. Right? So that's the kind of level of partying that they're doing..

"We just did a show about trans coding and how hard this problem is actually, because when somebody uploads a video, if you want to deliver that video to all these different surfaces, like if you want to deliver it to a smartphone on shaky connection, but you also want to be able to deliver it in high fidelity to somebody who's sitting on a t. one connection in there, you know, nice apartment. You actually have to transport it in multiple ways. Meaning you have to compress it using different bit rate, tradeoff algorithms. And so there's a huge spectrum when you consider the the different types of connectivity, the different types of phones people can be on the different types of computers. People can be on. You actually create this bit rate ladder, which is all of these different versions of the video. They get delivered to the consumer. So this is just a lot of processing power that goes into that. So so I could actually, this seems like something that. Could work could make sense for it to be on the blockchain in order to decentralize it and make it cheaper, and to make it a cloud service that somebody like bit main could provide. But to the token point, you know, the example you gave earlier with the house party where we were able to enumerate an actual purpose for a smart contract. You know, the thing is in that house party example, you don't need a token. All you need is ether, right? You just need a contract that exchanges ether and it makes me a little bit suspicious of the whole utility token model. Because if you just had a trance, coding type system built with smart contracts that used a theory him or that ether instead of using this token, then there's no reason why you would need this token based network that you gave the example of live peer. Although I'll admit that the token is a nice way to bootstrap the network and. Raise some money for these guys and girls that are hacking on life here and making it work. Cool. That's great. Let's let's renumeration them for their efforts. But unfortunately, if it works, somebody can just clone it to a contract based system that's that's just uses ether and doesn't use their token. That only has one specific purpose. I mean, doesn't that seem like a counter argument against even a token for this live peer purpose? It kind of this night. We feel that dole conserve first and foremost greats would strapping mechanism. There's the issue that, like if you have providers in one site and consumers, one side in consumers, just go away or just come down from the TV and there's very few consumers and you've grown to a large amount of providers and they're not gonna be earning money because there's less consumers. Now, block rewards, inflation can help maintain the network, that sense. So inflation is one reason like having the control over monetary policy of a given supply. Why is one reason to have an own token and that can be good, that can be bad that can be well done are beduin. I'm not gonna get into that marriage, but I guess it's one of the reasons. And of course serving as a way to Ramona rate the teams that make this things is probably the biggest reason why we're seeing that many token south there today to be very Frank with you. But just like when you say that anyone can fork the thing and just build a mirrored system that works without a token, I guess that's the beauty of it. Like at anytime anyone can just fork the life peer network can build a clone of it. And I bet that in one or two months, the original project is already going to be way farther ahead than the clone because they just keep developing and delivering stuff because they hold the token and because they are incentivized to actually keep working for the network so that more people are going to use it so that Marto Ken's are gonna circle around and so that the tokens is going to increase in value. So don't can really good means of keeping a community together and..
