Darlington: Martin Truex Jr. Remains the NASCAR Dominator

"To get your take darlington. Kyle martin tricks junior the winner. Yes only driver with multiple victories in the twenty twenty one season now. Three victories at tracks will play host to the playoff opener. That starling to the round of eight finale. That's martinsville and the championship race phoenix. He's one at all three of those places. So i know twelve races in were third of the way in the season. So it's not too early to make overexuberance yes prediction. Never too early is mark tricks junior. At this point the unquestioned championship favourite mean feels like. Oh yes and i honestly. I've not seen anybody rise to that challenge yet on a consistent basis only on a consistent basis how many years we went through. It's the big to this battle of the titans they'd coming out right and then a couple years ago. It became the big three. You know and now it's the big lebowski. It's the one guy you know what i mean. It is the one guy that's all that's really the first. He's the only guy in the first two races that has raised his hand and said. Hey i'm the gatt come get me come get me so i mean i think he's unquestionably the guy that everybody is shooting at right

Why Is Bubba Wallace so Confident?

"Bubba. Wallace is on. And he. Rates the season. So far driving for denny hamlin and michael jordan in that twenty three car. I had high expectations going in the martinsville because the success there and how well i've run there in the past and how well twitter has run there. We just kinda miss sometimes going into these next fourteen races in a row that we have Let's see what happens. I know we're going to run top. Twenty hopefully fifteen and start breaking down the top fifteen barrier and and consistently get there. Then start so people are way there. It's only a matter of time. We're we're hitting all fall ciller. Cylinders aren't firing at the same time. But we're getting all they're all kind of sporadic so it's like once we get that doubt and there's a lot of potential of his team act. Continue to say that like that's that's one of the most exciting things as can be this weekend. Yeah finishes could be a couple of spots or overcooked it all together. We're figured out what we need to secure those fox earlier in the race and go five something much greater than what we have been so You know we're only increases in and no one's right. The ship yet for our team in they still have our kinks ironed out and little things that are holding us back you bunch of little things. Add up to one big thing. So we'll be just

Josh Berry on First NASCAR Xfinity Series Win at Martinsville

"The final with us for the very first time is very first time. Xfinity series win from martinsville josh berry. Welcome to the program yet. Thank you for happening for the board. Do it okay. So that's got a nice ring to it. Does it not explicity series win for the first time. that play is Really to be honest. It's still kind of think it in order to accomplish You know when. I got this opportunity. i was. I was pretty optimistic. About what we would be able to do and Here the beginning of the year. It's been pretty tough. we've had some. We've had some bad luck and different things happen but You know we made up for it on on sunday and getting a win. Yeah absolutely now. This is not. You know a big mistake or anything. You're you're kind of short-track ace and especially at martinsville. So i mean Those that are shocked. I guess shouldn't be. Yeah i think. I think so And like i said there that was obviously a race and Circled near early in the season as a great opportunity for me But still man. It's a it's a totally different caller and You know totally different style racing if different competitors and it's just experience series is really tough and Were we you know. We've kind of had up and down sort of the year and We had to start twenty nine. I think that was kind of gotten all this. And somehow my crew. Chief taylor did a great job calling the race and get track position. Once we got up. Got up there we we can hold onto it. I'd say at the very least it's You put your name out there and probably open some eyes i guess. Yeah so You know like. I said it was You know for me to to step out of a late model stock car at hickory. Speedway and All these other great short tracks around here to step right into the series is in a huge jump

NASCAR’s Short Track Swing Wraps up at Richmond

"It's time for richmond. Guess bill short-track season about the conclude. Here for nascar. no well. I love short tracks. I love richmond. And i love richmond during the day. I think it's a great race during the day. I think the groove widens out the drivers have options with the crew. Chiefs are gonna love because there's still no practice dj so you're going to have to hit the ground with what you think. You're going to run in the race and if you miss it early you can get laughed. They're pretty quick. So i liked it. My dry options to move around with the warm racetrack. I was anxious to see martinsville under the but obviously that didn't exactly happen so But it turned out to be a tremendous race. And i just love. The fact of watching different drivers go about navigating short tracks. And i'll use martin rex junior as the example. That only a couple of years ago that we wondered with this guy ever win on the short-track and now he's like fifty or sixty percent on these but what was the most impressive thing. Hardest thing that that driver comes up against is trying to pass teammate. Lead in the race for the win. You know not wanting to other people. You can be a lot more aggressive but he did that. That was textbook. If you watch the way that he worked any hamlin then made all of that happens. Fundraising watch and i agree. I love richmond and the afternoon with it hot and slid

William Byron Takes Fourth at Martinsville

"William byron finished fourth at martinsville and short-track continues this weekend at richmond. We've had some really good short-track races but yeah then we've had some issues with breaks and and things mechanical things so trying to make sure that we make all that stuff last and and not make it to the end. The race is really important. You know so. I think that's a big emphasis for us. But some of that is how you're driving but also just technique and give making sure that i'm about. I'm taking care of my stuff throughout the early part of the race. Second something good at the end. So that's i think that's all it is just kind of what we've had good handling stuff. Then we've done well but you know you can't try to crutch it too much with with Breaks and stuff if you're not handling well. William byron is happy fans are slowly coming back to the race. Track all masked up. I mean i'll just roll with whatever. I am comfortable with. Howie approach it. I mean i feel. I feel fairly wold as is right now. I think you know the protocols and things are working well so Yeah i think it's going to be a grind full thing but you know i think you see it through all sports right now you know getting getting more and more fans round Whether you know having mass but but being able to have the browns. So that's kind of how i i'm good with it. People have masks on you know. It's it's working towards right direction

"After getting out on the track ahead of Denny Hamlin on the final pit stop mark tricks junior battle this teammate for about twenty laps before diving alone going on to drive away with the win at Martinsville speedway interesting how it all played out there you know I thought throughout the day we were you know turned a fifth place car in there and then one point we you know middle race got off a little bit and list price six or seven planes car so it's kind of a weird day chase Elliott we get around him to go on to finish second he said it was a hard fought battle to end the day on a solid run they were not great but I had some I guess are are strong students kind of early on in the run and then really stated hard too hard there latter part of the around him was relegated to third and William Byron and colors and rounded out the top five respectively I'm Jerry Jordan

"Weekly getting you ready for this weekend's race what's up people rowdy dragging joining you once again for this week's final weekly fantasy update well. We're fresh off the dirt race. How the heck was that was an awesome show. Greeted picks. Didn't help many of you out for sunday's race things like that are going to happen. Two of the best duke it out and we get to do it all again next year. So as the rain delay pushed the race to monday. I've found that. I was unable to break away from my weekday grind and get those live stage leaders in giving your do props once again. So the two of you know who you are and good job props t anyway. Let's take a look and see who dominated the race at bristol in the dirt. This week's winner for the final ap weekly fantasy league is kenneth. Wins edging out. Pit rose speeders by one point with a score of two hundred four points. Nicely done so now. Let's take a look at some pics martinsville where racing saturday night under the lights. I'm going to change it up a little bit. Let's take a look at who i think are the top drivers for each manufacturer. This week will start with toyota. The number eleven denny hamlin. He's got five. Wins here at this track. Fifteen top five and thirty races. You're looking at a fifty percent chance of the top five with this guy. Last year he got bonus points in both stages in the final race of the season. None in the june race. But that doesn't scare me away from using danny for saturday nights race under the lights are right now. Let's take a look at the ford driver. The number twelve ryan blaney. He edges out his teammates from me this week based off his last couple of years he looks real good at martinsville with two back to pack second-place finishes hasn't finished out of the top five since two thousand eighteen and he also collected bonus points in all stages in both races last year and moving onto our chevy. Pick for this week. The number nine car chase elliott. He got his first win at this tracking november bonus points in both races last year. In fact you actually have to go back to two thousand. Eighteen in the spring was the last time he didn't pick up. Bonus points Since then his track average is ten point in the hendrix are vast right now. So there's no reason why chase can't pick up another win on saturday anyway. That's all i got for you. This week folks. Thanks for hanging out and listening to the final act weekly fantasy segment of the show. I am rowdy dragon until next time. The final lap weekly is on..

"Our consistency. We've got more points than what we had last year at this time. And you know. We're a lot happier with what we're doing so we're just gonna keep plugging away. Keep doing the things that we do and we know that you know for the most part if you average of fourteen and a half fifteenth place finish You're gonna have a really good shot to make the playoffs and that's something. We've been focused on a do think there's some really good tracks for us to you know maybe go get a win. But we're we're focused on consistency ricky. That off season meeting you guys had to kind of regroup You referenced after bristol that you also had challenged yourself to do some things behind the wheel on off the race. Track to prepare. What have you done personally to improve your performance this year for me off the track just looking at s mt data a lot more rewatching racist more. I did a little bit of that. But i wouldn't say that i really dove super deep into it. Always been kind of a. Just go off phil and jump in the car and roll with it but You know making sure that you know. Brian and i are on the same page really talking over what we learned last year at our first year together over at a new organization and with different race car and different team. And so we're i feel like we're more prepared going into the race You know something that. I do every week as well as I talked to my good friend coach. Freeze who's at liberty university now but that will miss talk to him every week and he gives me a pep talk and just make sure that you stay focused throughout the race Because looking at some of the races last year we had some really good runs in the mistakes that i made speed on pit road especially under green really. Took us out of contention for top tens and that's something that we do can't afford so ricky this weekend martinsville the night race. We hope it tonight. Race on saturday night and rain stays away. Our buddy nascar all our buddy nascar who he calls in the first caller every time on the show he's called in. He has a question about martinsville for you. So nasr carl. So is one thing that you as a driver inside. The car can do be competitive. Go to the front but yet not overuse your break center. So hard at martinsville. That's a great question about halfway through this week. When i was a team meeting.

"This time is what i'm trying to get at. You know i think my biggest thing. I would take away from from harper. And in what i learned with her was. Don't rush the small things right. Don't rush through like you want him to get to the point where they can sit up on their own. You want to get him to the point where they can crawl you. You wanna hit these milestones because as a society you know you never want your kid to be behind right. So you're always trying to push your your children to do all these things and get there and you wanna make sure that they're developing the way they should right and you want to give them the tools and the resources that they need to To develop on the other hand. I think there's a lot of things that we rush through in those moments that you don't get to enjoy and and if i were to go back and tell my self you know things that i know now before i had my first child i that would be. The biggest thing is just. Don't rush the small things enjoy every moment in the they're gifts from god man it. It changes your outlook everything you do when you get into those moments in in you're dealing with all the little things that they they do as they're growing so yom excited to have a second one You know it's it's going to sound a little odd. I'm kinda fingers crossed kinda team girl. I'm hoping that we have another girl. Just because harper has been amazing. And i love. I love being around her seeing her personality. So we'll see what happens. But yeah i'm excited. Why cannot believe she's already seven years old. Maybe there's a magic your number seventy seven years old. Maybe this is going to be the year for that championship. Feels kinda right that way and starting off the way you have with the season look a little bit further ahead for us after martinsville you take a little bit of a break then you head to the high bank so talladega and shortly after that the schedule really gets busy in terms of these off weekends. Kind of vanishing. You know our season. This year is a little odd with the two off weekends. And then martin zone another off weekend. It isn't normally like that right. And i think that's been a little bit unique little off but on the other hand has been nice. Know to kinda get those. I hate in in especially when we struggle like we have. It's nice to hit the reset button rank. Those two weeks off. Let the guys have a little bit of a breather. We know that this summer is a brutal stride. it always is. It's going be hot. it's going to be humid. You know we're going to have these these raises where you're going to grind it out and puts a lot of stress in a lot of pressure on the guys in the job. You know to to make sure that the they have everything ride and dawn and ready to go and so this little break gives them a nice little a nice little time to kind of relax thomason family then we started again and go after but you know. i'm i'm I'm probably looking for to how the as much as i should be Just because i know that they turn it didn't go like i wanted to go and you never really know what's going to happen on the rec- as but then after that we've got stretch racist. I really enjoy right in. And i really feel like are are fun and in the atmosphere in in in the way they raise his a fun. You know the other part. That i'm courage by the longer we go obviously with vaccinations and with you know cohen being on the trend to be lower which is obviously what we want you know. My hope is that we get fans back at the racetrack at an obviously. Wanna keep save and and keep them distance and keep protocols in place but the sooner we can get race. Fans back the racetrack. The mortal feel like normal and and that's really what we all crave right. It doesn't matter for ray time recent or just life in general. We all crave normal that we had before the pandemic in so you know the the longer we go the more hopeful that we'll be able to get some fans back at the race track that if nothing else makes me excited absolutely one hundred percent with you on that one. Justin congratulations on the atlanta win. And pre congratulations for becoming a two time. dad man. Good luck this weekend. Thank you i appreciate it a lot. There you go. That's just an august. We'll take a quick break. Come back and then. We'll get another preview for racing at martinsville this weekend. Stay.

"On our strength just an all with us. Now he drives the number seven camaros at junior motorsports in the xfinity series. The atlanta winner. Fresh off an off. Week but i know he wanted to be on that dirt track bristol. Now you head to martinsville where you were runner up time. We were there and it seems like the calendar and the stats and everything are lining up for you. How do you feel. I feel a lot better right now than i did. At the beginning season obviously we fired off out of the gates in the beginning of twenty twenty one and we just. We were terrible. We we fought just everything. You can possibly come up with the fight. We fought it. See mike so nice tendencies in around obviously To to get to victory lane at atlanta was awesome to That was the first time. I've had exalted echo park on the car so to take in victory lane in the the echo park to fifty was really obviously really special. You mentioned the dirt. I'm super bombed. The xfinity series. Didn't go to their track. Bristol a number one when i grew up on racing under but but not only did we not get the race but we also missed out on a great racetrack at bristol. Myers right You know going from two races to once. That was super disappointing. Just because i felt like we had a great shot to maybe take a victory home. They're a dirt or asphalt. So we we go into martinsville. Obviously dash for cash begins so being able to qualify for that huge. Thanks finnity for for what they do. In in that regard as far as just reinvesting into the teams in the the the organizations that support the series on a regular basis in it means a lot to all of us. And then as you mentioned i second last year however i think the four of us that are in the dash for cash in finished one. Two three in a gentleman who was leading the race and had flat tire right towards the end in in wasn't able to To battle it out for a win. So i'm not sure if you could pick any four. Have a better shot. Iguana martinsville in going for that that grandfather clock but but most importantly to defer cash money before we look ahead. Let's look back a little bit that atlanta race. Even though it was only a couple of weeks it seems like longer than that now but everybody was focused on the whole noah gregson and daniel henrik scrap and true excess. Really good meanwhile year. Just okay you guys do that. I'll go on and win. I mean it kind of feel like y'all have your phone. I'm going to victory lane now. Honestly that was one of the one of the calm races. I feel like i've i've been able to be a part of for for myself You know we we fired off right out of the box and felt like we were. We were we. Were going to be wanted to be but we were good. We made good changes all day. And and that's really what it comes down to. You know with with no practice. No qualifying you have to fire off strong but you also have to be really on the back in with the changes in your pit crew. Were lights out. We gain spots on pit road every time and we we made adjustments the car that ultimately helped propel us to to having a better a better car so that was a big part of it. You know we got gift when martin spent on pit road. Obviously that helped tremendously but on the other hand You know. I felt really good about the fact that you know as he came back and do the field and got back to us to the end of the race when he closed the gap we were able to kinda push a little bit harder those last ten or twelve laps or so in kinda pull a little bit of a gap in else huge from a from a driver standpoint. Absolutely one of the one of the bigger wins in my career. Just for the simple fact that we executed all day perfectly. Things went the way we needed to go. And those as don't happen very often. No they really don't you mentioned got got a break there. But you've had some times to you and almost anybody else who raised where you felt like you had the best car and it didn't work out for you for one reason or another so that stuff kind of has a way of evening out but looking ahead to martinsville. The cookout two fifty is under the lights. And that's got to give you a little something extra there doesn't it it does i mean martinsville's obviously a great facility. I've been a huge fan of martinsville long before they extended series went back there. I you know. I got tip my first truck race in martinsville. Many moons ago darrell. Waltrip was in that race. That gives you an idea of how long ago i attended a truck. Crazy martinsville You know my dad. And i we go there as as fans in walk. Do and be a part of that advantage because we really enjoyed it. So you're martinsville's always been on my list of restricts that i've i've had circled You know having a little bit experience. I didn't hurt anything but on the other hand you know last year going back to martinsville within xfinity series car. Having a good car i think. That's first and foremost we had a great great Great camaro and we're able to battle for win late in the race and ultimately lock our way into that final round at phoenix and do the things that we needed to do. So you know. I don't know i don't know what it looks like this time around under the lights is gonna be extremely different in the conditions are going to be different. The way you're gonna raise the things you're gonna see. You're going to be completely different. So i'm excited for that. I know they took the grass out as well. So i think if you the guys are excited that there's no more grass infield but how does that affect kind of how we raise not that not that. It's really easy to get on top of that curb but you know that. Took some guys out in the last couple of years Companies finnity so. It'd be interesting to see what happens there. But we've got a beautiful car We've got the fight. Hunger sparked change unilever walmart plus car. We got all the unilever. Iran's on the car with us and It's going to be a great great weekend and in really looking forward to getting getting martinsville under the lights on friday night this to me. That takes me back to my. You know my my short-track days grown up running around home where your race on a friday night. And it's under the lights just that to me is what recent really all about. I'm glad you mentioned the grasping because we saw at atlanta your teammate got his car all torn up when he went off into the grass asked joey logano about it after the fact that he said good riddance to the grass at martinsville. Why do we have it anywhere. Where do you come down on that debate. Because i know more attractive starting to look at putting in that artificial turf well. I'm disappointed that we're taking the grass outdo be perfect gospel you only for the simple fact that our partner fresh culture they have a turf division and i would bet you that if If a lot of these checks call brandt they could probably fix a lot of their issues with their turf and we wouldn't have the issues that we do have but that's beside the point I don't wanna race cars. So i understand that. If you're not going to use the tools that you have I understand getting rid of it and putting artificial shirt. But you know it's a it's a tough balance. You know. I think in some aspects you know you pay a penalty for making a mistake and sometimes i think you learn from those a lot more than if you get by with something right just for example. You mentioned josh berry going through the grass atlanta at entering the car. It's a bummer. For that day. i for joschka fischer no question but in the conversation posted. Land the things that you would do differently things you would change. Those were important. Vital pieces of knowledge that that josh learned right. And he's gonna take those into the rest of his racing career. And i think sometimes especially with younger drivers when you're bringing up at drew if they can get by with something and there's no penalty for.

So <Speech_Male> the two of you know who <Speech_Male> you are and good <Speech_Male> job props to you <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> anyway. <Speech_Male> Let's take a look and <Speech_Male> see who dominated the <Speech_Male> race at bristol <Speech_Male> in the dirt. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> This week's winner <Speech_Male> for the final ap weekly <Speech_Male> fantasy league <Speech_Male> is <Speech_Male> kansas winds. <Speech_Male> Edging out. Pit <Speech_Male> rose speeders by <Speech_Male> one point <Speech_Male> with a score <Speech_Male> of two hundred <Speech_Male> four points. <Speech_Male> Nicely done <Speech_Male> so <Speech_Male> now. Let's take a look at some <Speech_Male> picks for martinsville <Speech_Male> were <Speech_Male> racing saturday night <Speech_Male> under the lights <Speech_Male> to <Speech_Male> change it up a little bit. Let's <Speech_Music_Male> take a look at who i <Speech_Male> think are <Speech_Male> the top drivers for <Speech_Male> each manufacturer. <Speech_Male> This week <Speech_Male> will start with toyota. <Speech_Male> The number <Speech_Male> eleven <Speech_Male> denny hamlin. <Speech_Male> He's <Speech_Male> got five. Wins here at <Speech_Male> this track. <Speech_Male> Fifteen top <Speech_Male> five and thirty races. <Speech_Male> You're <Speech_Male> looking at a fifty percent <Speech_Male> chance of the top five <Speech_Male> with this guy. <Speech_Male> Last <Speech_Male> year he got bonus <Speech_Music_Male> points in both <Speech_Male> stages in the final <Speech_Male> Race of the season. <Speech_Male> None <Speech_Music_Male> in the <Speech_Male> june race. <Speech_Male> But that doesn't scare <Speech_Male> me away from using <Speech_Male> danny for saturday <Speech_Male> nights race under the lights <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> are right. Now <Speech_Male> let's take a look at <Speech_Male> the ford driver. <Speech_Male> The <Speech_Male> number twelve ryan <Silence> blaney <Speech_Male> edges <Speech_Male> out his teammates from <Speech_Male> this week <Speech_Male> based off his last <Speech_Male> couple of years. <Speech_Male> He looks real. Good <Speech_Male> at martinsville with two <Speech_Male> back to pack <Speech_Male> second-place <Speech_Male> finishes <Speech_Male> hasn't finished out <Speech_Male> of the top five since <Speech_Male> twenty eighteen <Speech_Male> and he also <Speech_Male> collected bonus points <Speech_Male> in all <Speech_Male> stages <Speech_Male> in both races <Speech_Male> last year <Speech_Male> and moving <Speech_Male> onto our chevy <Speech_Male> pick for <Speech_Male> this week. The <Speech_Male> number nine car <Speech_Male> chase elliott. <Speech_Male> He got his first <Speech_Male> win at this track. <Speech_Male> November <Speech_Male> bonus points in <Speech_Male> both races last <Speech_Male> year. In <Speech_Male> fact you actually have to go <Speech_Music_Male> back to twenty eighteen. <Speech_Music_Male> In the spring <Speech_Male> was the last <Speech_Male> time he didn't pick <Speech_Male> up bonus points <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> And since then his track <Speech_Male> average is ten <Speech_Male> point oh <Speech_Male> in the hendrix <Speech_Male> are vast <Speech_Male> right now. So there's no <Speech_Male> reason why chase can't <Speech_Male> pick up another <Speech_Male> win on saturday <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> anyway. That's all i got <Speech_Male> for you. This week folks. <Speech_Male> Thanks for hanging <Speech_Male> out and listening to <Speech_Male> the final weekly <Speech_Male> fantasy segment of <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> the show. "martinsville" Discussed on NASCAR America

"On wet weather tyres on an oval. Currently we see them at all the road courses but right here good teaser. I thought it was april. Fool's i but wasn't april honestly. I just thought it was shipped. They had left over from bristol. Taxes in water you could make. Yes but there's the rumor. Ethnic kyle larson drove five here around in the wet and i'm not gonna say rave reviews but positive reviews was able to make labs i guess. Dj let's talk conceptually if they can figure out a tire combination that works. Would you be a fan of wet weather at the old. no i'm not no i just. It's just is not what the stock car racing has been about for all of these years. And i know that we've made a lot of changes but this is one that i absolutely not we gotta think about it. It's not realize we don't have anywhere close to a maximum number of fans that are tending these races yet. Hopefully that's on the rise and we do get more people there. But why don't we won't ask the fans to sit out and bad weather to to watch these races. And i don't think it gives us the type of racing that that's not a skill in my mind that are champion has to have is to race that i don't know exactly who this day and asked my opinion and they own a lot. But i don't like this idea i love it because i want to see their best skills is tough enough as it is without bruins something else there. I think that's where i'm a little torn on the balance. I think i'm okay with the option to get some races in. But but at what point is it too much and i say this is we already have six or seven courses and we know they'll run on the wet. I don't have a problem with that as much because that is a skill agree. That's right if you run anything. Road course other than nascar. Yeah you would have run in the rain. That's right not nascar join them. I don't know of another ov- on. I could be wrong but i can't think of another oval racing that runs in the rain. Everything runs in the dry. So i'm a little bit with dj. On this i don't love the idea. I understand why they're trying to do it to probably keep the schedule movie long but at some point you know when is enough enough. I mean it is a thirty six week scheduled. But i would hate to see. Here's the problem. I haven't along with the way saying. Is it okay to run in the rain. Martin zone the spring. I don't have a problem with it but then you have to be okay with it in the fall but i would have a problem with it because it's going to dictate the playoffs. I guess that's where i stand is that's a great point and sexually. I'm all right with it. But i'm not okay within the playoffs so i guess i have to say i'm not okay with it all the time i listen i i go back to and i'll go back and i agree with you. I i'll go back to the dirt race and a lot of ways. Is we like to say that. We have the most well rounded group of drivers short tracks intermediate tracks superspeedway courses. We don't have to throw dirt to make more well round right. I just don't believe we have to and we went to a dirt track and we saw that you took a daniel suarez. You took some of these guys and they had the learn at the cup level a brand new skill if they never play that they never did never had done their whole life. So am i asking. Nhl player are an nba player or a major league baseball player. All of a sudden we get to a six game series. And you're going to have to bat a different way. You're going to have to do something different way. You're gonna have to learn a new skill. Set to be able to play at this level. And i just think to introduce a new skill like you say on a on a noble. I just don't and again we were talking about before. I don't know where they're gonna run just putting water on the race track. You know we see as attracts dry out with that much water on it that we saw marville. We see guys come in and put on slakes because they're counting that racetrack. Drying out water is water when it's running when it's deep and a few races that i've been on a wet racetrack in a sports car. You know john andretti said run off. Line don't run online because that's where the oil is. That's where the gas is. That's where the rubber has been put down. There is no all line at martinsville. Unless we're going to run up next to the wow make. Martinsville look like bristol all the way around the outside. So i'm not a fan of it. I don't i don't listen. I don't care sorry race fans. I don't care if race fans have to set in the rain if they have to go on me. i don't care. I'm talking about strictly from the competitor standpoint. Yeah that's where that's where i'm coming from. I'm not even taking into account. Because i don't think it should even get to the point where the fans have to deal with. And then here's the other side of it. We saw what happened at at bristol. Win ever and goodyear you know does a terrific job with tires and all the work that they had to do but we got to bristol and we only could run. Fifty laps granddad. Okay we have one car running around on this track where it's been watered down and we think that we've got an answer to that. Things are so totally different when you get there on a race weekend competition and so i don't wanna see a great race. A great racetrack be totally changed. Because of not having that many times. I go there and go for the.

Being a comedian during COVID-19

"You know, around this time last year, the Canadian comic Shawn cut hand was really trying to get his comedy career off the ground. He was going to a ton of open mikes. He was getting some paid gigs. He just performed a really successful set One night. I'm a single native in my thirties with no kids. Oh, I'm like a very white buffalo set that he recorded was about to send off to the just for last festival. You know, in hopes of performing there. We all know how that would turn out festivals and coveted Well, they don't really go together. So going from performing every week to now, having to step off the stage, Sean had to look to other outlets for his comedy. And one of those outlets strangely, and he'll tell you the story was writing his aunt's eulogy. I got to talk to Shawn cut hand. From Saskatoon. Hey, Sean, How are you? Hey, I'm pretty good. How are you? Good. How is this catch one tonight. Today has the house Saskatoon today. We're finally sitting above zero. So we're doing good. Yeah, you could take off the winter coat. Thank God. Hey. Yeah. Finally s o. I want to get an idea of how things were for you before Cove it last year. What was work like for you back then, just before covert. Um I actually went to Ottawa to be a talent associate further inspire words. And that was just just before things started getting like backstage at that award show. We're kind of getting in mumblings of like, Oh, we better not be hugging everyone. And then that finished and I came home to Saskatoon and the next week. That was gonna work down backstage after Juno's and it went from going backstage there the first day too. Don't touch anyone. Hand shakes aren't allowed no hugging. And then we did our first day of orientation. And then the next day, the Juno's were just canceled. I remember I was there, I would do you remember that day we all woke up thinking that the Jew knows we're gonna happen and everything was all right. And then the news just started pouring in. It was terrifying. Yeah, it's like way start like the whole stage set up the day before And then it's just like, Yeah, everything's done. What was your comedy life like Before the pandemic? It was going pretty good. Like I was getting consistent gigs. I had just finished the holiday season and I had done my first half hour at Yuck yucks, which was like a big milestone for me that I had been working on and then me and my buddy Danny night. We're running this open mic Sunday nights at The compromise, which is just a little hole in the law ball bar, and we kind of wood. Just it was like a gorilla open mic. I called it. We just showed up that like 6 30 set up a carioca machine and Didn't open mic at 7 30 on people in the room. Didn't really know what was going on. It's always a good way to do a performance. Sneakily. Yeah s O. I mentioned earlier that you said you did a bit of tape that you were going to send off just for laughs, Um, in hopes of getting to perform there. I want to hear a bit of that. Take a listen. If you just look at a yogurt parfait like if you just look at the cup, I swear it's got the answer to all of the statue in problem great there, you know, Because first you got the white yogurt taking up all the space. On then up top. You got the brown shattered and broken granola. But then in the middle, you got this sweet Barry is a reconciliation. E my guest, Sean, Better great comic from Saskatoon. What's it like to hear that back when you could do stand up? Oh, yeah, Like, like what I was saying, Like I was really happy with that performance like I'm actually gonna put it online for sale pretty soon. Because, yeah, I just want to share it around. It was a good recording and Didn't really get to get much use out of it. And just like, yeah, the crowd was Really amped up that night because I think they knew that they weren't going to be in public for a while. Yeah, And that was the same Sunday that the Jew nose was gonna be And the day after that performance was when lockdown happened. Wow, that's crazy. That's like hearing it, like hearing the Chernobyl or something like that. Yeah, Yeah, It's like a little time capsule. I think. Yeah, You know, I've been talking to a few comics in the past year, and it hasn't been easy to like. I feel like musicians have been able to do a live streams and actors have still been able to do some movies. I feel like this has been hard on stand up comics and really, you know, in a really interesting way, right? Yeah, like we really need audiences to develop our material and like even doing them on zoo Mike's with other comedians like it's just It's not the same. You know, because other comedians will Laugh at your stuff. Differently than an audience well and yeah, like I've been doing a lot of soon Mike's. I've been doing it with people from Chicago people from London, UK and Rome, Italy. Even it's been pretty wild on zoom right, because it's not the same. You don't get that that big collective laughter, right? No. Yeah, like a lot of people have their mikes muted and you're just looking to see like if they're reacting on this screen. Yeah. Don't let me go to you. But what's the story on this one? I actually heard that you did. You did stand up on your aunt's funeral for her eulogy. I'm about first off. I I know you guys were close. I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you. What was she like? She was Here is an amazing person. She was the type of person that would always tell it like it is, you know, even with just the look of her eyes. She should. She could tell you tell you how it is, and she was She was big into taking a stand Me in her pro tested a couple of times together and she was a fire keeper on her reserve, Aqua, sassy Mohawk Nation. And yes. Oh, this, uh During covert She passed away due to cancer complications. And what was there with her name? Joyce Caskey. Sorry you were saying so She passed away and you had a service for Yeah, we went to Ontario and we had like a socially distance memorial. And it was kind of different. And like the morning of the memorial, my my dad just kind of just left the eulogy up to me and I was like, what really was kind of like Trying to get some some information that I could use from her childhood or something and and like that, I think people were being kind of agency. But the info and that's what I just kind of like. I had some jokes that I had practiced that involved her. And then I just added a couple stories into it. And I ended up making like a like a little eight minute. A performance that was like part stand up part just speaking from the heart. How did it I mean, This is a strange question for a funeral that how did it go over? Yeah, it actually like, went pretty good, like you know, because it went from like Everyone was in like a somber mood. And then I got up to talk, and I acted like I was gonna talk serious. But then I just cracked a joke at one of the what one of the attendees of the of the funeral and everyone. Was just laughing. And then I told some funny stories about my auntie and It's pretty great, that's beautiful. I mean, I think we think about stand up is something that happens that kind of smoky nightclubs. And that's that's all good. And we think about funerals is just things that are too sad, you know, and that's all good to you. It's lovely. It feels like you were able to It feels like you were able to bring some joy to your family when they needed it through your craft, right? Yeah, when someone passes away, and people are in that stage of grief there kind of focused on on how that person passed away and I think it's important in those times toe, Remember how they lived and the person that they were And cherish those moments, and she's a part of the reason you did stand up it all right? Yeah. She gave me a lot of confidence in my stuff because it was like years to go. My brother passed away when I was 22. He was 20. He was 23. Yeah, and I ended up having to do the eulogy. With my other brother for that one. And that one was more serious and really hard. But I remember after that, my auntie, she was the first one to come up to me, and she was Really proud of me, and she told me that She could picture me being a public speaker one day. And that that compliment like always stuck in my head. And I'm now like Look at me what I do now, so it really helped me a lot when when this is all over. You know, please God, when when this finally ends, and you're able to get up on stage and start doing comedy again. How do you think you have been changed by this year? To be honest, I think I've gained a lot of confidence this past year because a bunch of US comedians from Saskatoon Led by Dakota. He bear way started booking shows and people's backyard on the weekends. And so we would go into people's backyards and do a private show and sometimes, like I I did a show for six people in Martinsville and like to be stand in front of just six people like you really got a perform and not make things awkward and So I think those performances really helped me and I like to get in front of new audiences again. I'm kind of excited toe. Skills. When you picture and maybe this is a good way to close things off when you picture A year from now. What do you hope it looks like for you. I hope that I'm just consistently hosting an open Mike every Sunday again. That's what I would like to do. Yeah. Well, I hope it happens. I hope you never have to go on. Zoom ever again. Yeah, Sean, thanks so much for your time. Yeah. Thanks for having me. Shawn cut hand is a stand up comedian who is also part of the Web series Satirical group, the feather. He lives in Saskatoon.

20 Years Later: How Dale Earnhardt's Death Changed NASCAR Forever

"Ryan mcgee. Espn daily's chief. Paint trading correspondent. Thank you for joining me man. That's me man when i started. Espn a really really long. Time ago and i had this accent there were like. Hey you know about nascar right. I go yes you do. More than just know about nascar ryan you have now reported and narrated a new film for east sixty and it's called intimidator the lasting legacy of dale earnhardt. And i wanna talk to you about it today because it's a lot. It's about a lot more than how transcendent dale was on the track. It focuses on how he radically changed. Nascar's culture when it comes to safety but before we get into that. I do want you to just kinda sketch out for us. Who dale was for the uninitiated here and what made him such a towering figure in the nascar universe well and it's interesting because he's been gone twenty years i mean nascar's more than seven hundred races without del earnhardt and so for those of us of a certain age the idea of having to explain him and and why he's such a big deal seems insane but we saw what the last dance. The last dance ron's and half of twitter was like well. He was good. But you know this jordan character. Yeah we should know about it and we were so offended but bless their hearts. They didn't see him play. And so in this case you know. You have an entire generation twenty years exactly of sports fans who didn't see our heart race but it wasn't just about seventy six wins seven championships and also was just about the presence in the room. Always say with dell earnhardt if there was a thousand of us in a ballroom and we're all looking at a stage and he were to come in the back door when none of us were looking. We'd all instinctively. Just turn around because the air in the room changed. There was just a presence in a way that it carried himself and conducted his business and the intimidator thing that was legit. Every time i will. I know him. And every time i was in a room with him there was a little part of me. That was just trying not to say something stupid or pass out so on the back of the baseball card ryan so to speak. What are the accomplishments. That people should know about what dale did. Well the seventy six winds are really big deal but the seven championships and seventy plus year. The stockcar racing only three people one seven championships the checkered flag bands around their heat waves to them. That checkered card. His greatest success was on the super speedways. the taliban soup speedway and daytona he one thirty four racists and though tone national speedway thirty four nella one of those was the daytona five hundred and that was part of the appeal for him was even though he was this one tough customer and the man in black timid and all those things it took you twenty tries to finally win the daytona five hundred lawson in heartbreaking fashion multiple times twenty years frustration. Taylor that program names on the can't take it off. I guess i love it. He just he was in every man but he also of superman and that was always the appeal and outside of that ballroom. Full of the sports powerbrokers ryan. What was his status. Like regionally among the nascar faithful. How would you begin to describe what he meant to those people. What i hated it. Because when he came along in the late nineteen seventies. and you know it wasn't disrespect. But he didn't back down from. Richard petty from kailua from bobby allison from david pearson from any pissed them off the couldn't stand him and he would recommend a short track race. In martinsville and afro richer. Penn is electric. Listen kid you can't do it like this. And he just kept doing his way.

"Pick their brains. Yeah I mean face to face right now not not a lot lot. You know we call was coming over running xfinity and and those guys when they were able to run some races. Do we have a little bit more time and more face to face contact but I feel like you know running tiles struck this year abondoned and having that raised that we won and everything there. That's honestly Kinda helped open the door a little bit to get information from Kyle and to get some tips and stuff on from from several. Yeah. Absolutely. We're going to lean on those guys avant especially coming into this weekend pick the brains exactly what they thank. With with there being no race, there's there's not a film for me to walk. So you know I'm going to go back and up I. Guess Watch trucks for sure being in that race and try to see exactly kind of what happened throughout both those races. But on. That's one thing that's super nice about it is. If you can watch the whole race and then rector questions down, you can then go and ask them you know what you like. Try and get out of them and stuff. So. That's a big help coming into tracks especially doubt inventive. Let's finish up with this Brennan a few weeks ago it was announced that you'll be back at Joe Gibbs racing next year and imagine with all the craziness we've seen not just from the year. But this is silly season seems like it's been crazier than others was that a moment where you kind of went. I'm glad that's out of the way. Yeah absolutely I'd been you know we've been working so hard to WanNa come back to together one of the another shot especially after the season that we've had this year I really feel that we're gonNA really knock it out of the park next year as well with these guys. But that was a pretty big relief. You know I, don't get worked up about into our even I'm typically focused on exactly on what the goal is for this year, and that's to get the final four that have shot to win the championship but it was nice knowing the back of her head that. We'll have next year as well to kind of fall back on the rely on so. I'm excited. I really enjoyed my time at at Joe Gibbs racing in getting to know a coach we call him and to know everybody over there. It's been a pretty, pretty enjoyable couple of seasons. Will Brandon congratulations on the strong year the deal for next year all locked up and stress free is definitely the way to go through it. We appreciate your time. Thanks for having. This Brandon Jones drives the number nineteen, Toyota Supra at Joe Gibbs Racing Manar on the side of that car you'll be running two races this weekend at Martinsville. You can hear them both right here on the motor racing network we'll be right back. Sir Are you aware you were going forty miles an hour. This is a residential area. Sure. But I'm on my lawnmower wait. Am I getting a ticket? No I've just never seen anyone top nine miles an hour on.

NASCAR submits plan to convert Auto Club Speedway into half-mile short track

"Auto club speedway they're going to demo the whole thing. Make it a Martinsville Slash Bristol. For lack of a better term, I guess yeah. Although fact checking they're not going to out the whole thing because it's crazy to me is the front stretch is still going to be the same all auto club front stretch with a little bit of banking on it and the back stretch I think their plan is to be pit road which thinking about it. Logistically would be like a super tight turn because the pit road and the front stretch are not that far away from each other but the rendering looks really interesting. It just looks like a really long Martinsville slash. Bristol? And it kind of looks like hot wheels track. You know what I mean when you have those slam ours and they have the long straightaways in the super. Bank corners out of like forty five degrees. Economy reminds me of that takes me back to my to my

"Creams equidistant mu five hundred dizzying laps or two hundred sixty three miles and the stages weighing one hundred and thirty laps mile of mayhem we begin with Kurt Busch who has two wins sixteen top five seventeen top tens two poles average Finish of twelve. That's Kyle Busch but yes what did I say you said Kurt came out of the same person I think Kurt has the same wins though something close to that at least all right just copied Martin Church junior he's number two in the points going into this thing he's got five top fives no wins that's right he's not he doesn't have many short-track wins Cornell Eleven top tens whole average finish of eighteen point zero and I think he was also the guy who stops somebody's car who had no breaks here once you're okay plowed right into him or maybe he had no brakes somebody had no brakes I will give you the honor of taking last week's winner and of Virginia Native Denny Hamlin somehow I feel this is a trick but I'll take maybe Hamlin number eleven joe gibbs racing Toyota Camry like you said last week's winter has five win zero to Martinsville that's impressive fourteen top fives twenty top ten three polls an average finish second best in the entire series nine point five nine three lucky to even be there joy Lugano has a win six top fives nine top tens five poles average finish thirteen point four and not just a win wow how about Kevin Harvick here fifth-place guy in the points going into this thing and the number four Stewart Haas Racing Ford Mustang a win that this race track five top fives eighteen top tens an average finish fourteenth and how about we get to our special super special bonus driver guy it's all making sense now is it who could be and for this week I know this is different but Jimmy Johnson driver number forty eight Chevrolet he has nine wins at Martinsville Nineteen top fives twenty four sends three polls at an average finish of eight point five which is why he is our special bonus driver on but Yeah so just say prize suggests onus driver driver spotlight time Alex Bowman on Hedrick motorsports short-track programme heading into Martinsville the weekend yeah obviously feel like if we knew exactly what area to improve on on our cars we would have been much better at Richmond a couple programme heading into Martinsville the weekend yeah obviously feel like if we knew exactly what area to improve on on our cars we would have been much better at Richmond a couple of weeks ago but to do so we we went to Richmond trying to get a car that that turned the center all night and it was probably the best turning car there but had zero forward drive and is between between turn and drive at a place like Richmond or Martinsville's really important and Ryan Blaney is looking forward to the Rodney Hood well in Scandinavia Rally yes there you go

"But man, I was just like, okay. So all the things I've heard about this guy or one hundred percent true drivers doing mayhem. Well at martinsville. Excuse me. I made that up. Yeah. That was a bad one. Those probably the worst one you've done yet for once this this list here that we're about to go over it actually makes a little sense, which is just so unlike us. These are the drivers that are in the round of eight that kind of make sense to me usually we would like here are seven drivers. Exactly. All right. Let's start with Kyle Busch's. Got a couple of wins at martinsville. Fourteen top fives fifteen top tens and a pole on average finish of twelve dot six. That's awesome. How about Kevin Harvick? He is a win here. Five top five sixteen top tens and average finish a fourteen point four four four four four four four four four four four four four. That is quite the decimal point Martin tricks junior is got four top fives. That's right. He is not wanted to short-track. Right. That's right. He is just trying to so badly. And so close here at martinsville to nine top tens one pole average finish of even nineteen. I guess about chase Elliott. He has a top five here to top tens and average fish eighteen point one ref round here for the guys around eight. Yeah. Clint Boyer does have a win. It was earlier this year. Six top fives. Fifteen top tens average finish of thirteen point four or eight. Cheer up Kerry forty eight's Spiga this race track. This might be where he finally breaks through. But how about Lugano Joel Gano? No wins here. Either five time five eight top tens four polls an average of thirteen point seven eight nine. That's right. He was leading when taken out of that one year. That's true. But boy this list is pretty pathetic right now. Kurt Busch has two wins. Three tap fives. Five top tens a pole at an average finish of Twenty-one dot one. Okay. I'll surely Eric..

"Sudden this is the better way to do it we're we're slow learners around here okay let's let's kill you you kept the out of the production meeting with me i didn't get to hear that you were going to be doing that yeah yeah i know just kind of laid it on you hey there was really only one other story of the race that was denny versus kevin the martinsville smackdown i'm surprised in working like martinsville something else with them and nope so after leading a hundred eleven laps on monday ad martinsville you might wondered if because it kind of went by fast what happened at any hamlin well he picked up some front nose damage to his number eleven machine after what appeared to be a kevin harvick break checking him that's slowing down abruptly in front of him hark said quote no he hit me a couple of times and i was just trying to make sure i had my car under control and quote hamlin goes on to say they were just some light bumps here and then he slammed on the brakes so classy and quote martinsville it's getting good and so you know both these drivers have a history of being dirty to other people when something happens to them they don't like so like ham at the end of the five hundred slammed their walls junior the end of the wall we've got kevin harvick several times when something's not going way like a couple of weeks ago when he was looking for foreign roe swerved at collars and took himself out we've we've got a history of these two guys doing weird things like this and certain situations and so it's kind of funny for both of them to run into each other on the track and the same kind of situation so that's kind of comical what driver you and i have been covering this sport a very longtime what driver have has ever used the words i had to make sure i had my car under control right you're a race car driver that's the whole point is you're able to control these things where other people cannot so it's really comical and classy for something to use that as their reason for what happened.
