"Ninety four eagles Phillies talk hot stove stuff general manager meetings this week kind of lent itself. Do some conversation and Bryce Harper and Manny Machado up until they sign are going to be the two most talked about guys dirty off. I know there's rumors that Cleveland could make core. Corey kluber available Cy Young award pitcher who by the way, a lot of teams would love to get their hands on winter meetings will be happy kluber is actually on the market trades happen at the winter meeting. They're not gonna happen at the general manager media. But sometimes you see a team get over aggressive and make the signing in November or free agent players. I don't think it's going to be either at the top two or could it be could the Phillies use that a strategy to say we want to not only get this done. We want to get it done quickly. And we use that as some leverage that we put take it or leave it on the offers on the table for either Machado or Harper. What do you think? Eight eight eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four ranked for Malton buzzed. I tonight or no I had the in caller in the first hour here. Tonight race starts our number two. What did he say? Right. Well, I hope I can do better than that ATM. I have my friend on part. Jody. I would rather have Machado than Harper. I was watching an open network. Oh. Five days ago, and they brought up Harper's defensive statistics. And it turns out he's got a good outfielder. And they were speculating that his leg. Injuries have hurt him. And. Either in center or in right field, especially centerfield. He's not a good centerfield. I would not play. Coverage. In right field. So I would say if there is such a thing he's an old twenty six where Machado is young. And how do you agree with that? Well, well, I mean here up guys guys had leg injuries any any any started? Good. And he's not a good field or you're only buying. But let me ask you. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Well, all right. Let's go back and forth. What position does Manny Machado play? Well, he likes to be shortstop when he's gonna outstanding third baseman, right? But right now, he's the shortstop. Well, last year dictated terms that he's going to be a shortstop and both the Orioles and the dodgers were willing to go along with that. What if Manny Machado tells the Phillies, and or any of his suitors the same thing, I'm shortstop would you say Manny Machado is better at short. Then Bryce Harper is in the outfield. Yes. Yeah. I wouldn't that. That's that's just not accurate. Harpers better outfitted Machado is short stop. Now. If you're talking about Machado, a third I would say Machado is superior defensive player because he was very good at third base. Got gotta go back over there and relearn which I don't think will be any problem whatsoever. I think you'll be able to do that without much issue. But at shortstop Manny is below average. I think Harper is an average outfielder. I don't think he's below. But I surely don't believe he's above. I think he's an average rightfielder and I would not attempt them to play in center field on that. We can agree. He's not a center fielder. Right. So I think basically, you're you're buying is bad and are well getting who'd be told you guys for have bats. Yeah. But I I again charter would play surveys. I think we got an outstanding third baseman if not a cold walk third baseman, and no matter where you put Harper. He's he's he's he's just an average defender. What are you? What do you think if you gave them five five years and two hundred million? Go heavy on the average per but keep the years down, right? I would that way. He gets to be a free agent on Eastlake thirty thirty one. He gets back into the market at age thirty-one. Not outrageous. I suggested that several times for several players over the years. Go blow the market up to give a guy more than he's worth per year. Just to be able to keep the link to the contract that what you think is reasonable. I I would make an offer along those lines forty two big number to get the forty million prior. That's taken a massive jumped nobody's making more than thirty thirty one. Have you take it all the way to forty? You're now you're asking for a pretty drastic cutback from ten to five. So you're gonna have to pay for it. But I think even forty is a little outrageous for me. I would go term with Machado. Are where we are. I think he's a better all around baseball player and. He's going to give you the power numbers. Although I I. Got it wrong. Right. Harper's got more power the Machado. That's why I'm saying I think he I think he worked. I just think that Machado a better all around player. And if I were going to go long term I with him. That's just Martin Ray. I appreciate your opinion. Thanks for it. I think you're always stating Machado de f f now too big if now you could be right if he's perfectly fine with playing third base, the Phillies make that a prerequisite in a deal. Oh, by the way. And it's kind of tough to do seeing as the Phillies don't really have a given shortstop. I I would like to see JP Crawford begin a chance of Machado comes entities shortstop any demands being shortstop, guess what? JP your time with the Phillies is numbered. I do not believe that they have a legitimate long-term answer at shortstop right now, they have a couple of possibilities. But they don't have a given at that position. So it's it's kind of hard to make the argument, Manny, we're bringing in and. Your third baseman. Well, who you played at short? Well, we're not one hundred percent sure yet. We'll know that I wanna stay short. So does the believed that you're going to be able to talk Machado into playing third base? Just for the good of his new team is a little optimistic for me. I think you'd be signing him you're signing them as Jorge stop. And if that's the case, he's not a great shortstop. You're you're you're not improving your defense short by putting Machado. They're the same way you're not necessarily improving your defense with Harper because operate best as an average outfielder. But I think he is at least they an average rightfielder at this stage. Gusmao towns up on ninety four WIP. Gus Jodi always have somebody on right before me who might disagree with Toko. Yeah. I I'm just I'm just being you know, being a slightly quirky here. I don't like my shadow. I mean in not a leading man, okay. At best to Robin. He's not going to connect with the fan base at all. Now, you know Harper might connecting the wrong way. But at least bit harbor, you got a leading man, and the thing is who has. Phillies need him more than he needs them. I mean, he really has leverage because. Absolutely irrelevant team right now. There is no interest. I could care less what they do. But if they got Harper, I might care again right now, I don't care, and there's a lot of me out there wouldn't wouldn't be surprised, but. When the Philly's got it together in two thousand and seven and made it back to the postseason and turnaround won the World Series in two thousand eight they did it basically without any. Have to go out and get him best player in baseball player. And they took over the town for almost five years. So it's not in the sesame the necessity if winning now Harper would help them win. They were wait a minute. They were winning last year. And nobody went to the games. Nobody wants to get they were a winning team for what for a hundred thirty games. They were five hundred. Team. None you made that comparison before. And we had the had the argument last time. Rollins was was charismatic in various ways not in the conventional trite way. But you know, Rollins this charismatic in the classical white. But Howard was was charismatic and that we could spare. Ten minutes deciding what is class go. What I'm saying? Is they all they're all reasons to go to the ballpark to watch. Howard hit home runs. The watch Jimmy Ron splashes mile to watch chase the play the toughest type of baseball that any great superstar played since Pete Rose. I mean, there were a lot of reasons to go to that part. There is no reason to go to the park maybe Hoskins a little bit. I mean this this team desperately desperately needs a new face. And with that manager they have God. It's just insufferable they need to switch. The the main alpha guy on this team. They need they need a superstar. They need a star. They really do. Yeah. You and I do have a general disbelief of what will fill citizens Bank park winning winning winning last year? They were winning. They were in about five hundred team guts. But they were at one point in the season. What were they twenty games over? I don't think were that good. Then they. Arizona's diamond acting games above five hundred which is which is. But it's it's the first week of August. It's not September. And good. Good. I who gave the Philly fans. Granted there are pretty smart baseball fan base. And I think a lot of people disbelieved that the team was actually as good as hard baseball because they were trophies. And he didn't have anybody that you really wanted to watch play. You keep going back to that winning makes people want to winning what he wanted to see them. They were fifteen games over five hundred they were winning Jo Jody. I understand that. But then you can track this this. This is stone cold trackable people come out to the park the year. After once you prove yourself, and your a postseason team, you do the attendance things the year after and oftentimes it will last one more year. Then you're a good team. And it did with the Phillies as well. It's not a moment. It's not what they're seeing. It's what you've established over. I wanna make one other point about the Sixers anything that stands in the way of Ben Simmons is progress as a point guard position he was born to play and you and and anything that is an obstruction distraction. An inconvenience an impediment to that development should be gotten rid of immediately. I won't put part of that beat Ben Simmons. No no Benson Benson. I saw Benjamin's play point guard last year. I e he doesn't have to convince me that he was born to play the position. What I what I don't wanna see as a guy who claims it now, he's a point guard to and he dribbles the ball with the boggling up above his waist, and even when he's going up the court get swear it was a half court game of basketball. I don't wanna see that guy on this team because it's going to end up in a fistfight between Simmons and him later on this year. There is no chemistry between those two and he is fouling up the works in terms of Simmons becoming a better point guard. You gotta get shooters that he can pass the ball to. And then you'll shine. But part of being a point guard part of being any kind of garden the NBA ability to make jump shots. No, Ben Simmons might prove that not true. Ben Simmons might get to the hall of fame on triple doubles without ever really getting a jump shot. He he's not unique is a freak. But he's gotta be in the open floor. And he's gotta have the ball in his hands. This idea that he has to do a jump shot is not necessarily true. But he's not playing as where last year's user. And the reason is Markelle volts, or the reason could be that the NBA has learned that he can't shoot. Jo jody. They're not moving the ball. They're not racing up and down the floor like they did last year because of this kid. He's just when he has the bonus and everything comes to a standstill and he's not just affecting Simmons. Given Ben Simmons a stone cold pass. Everyone at the end of the season Gus including you as big a fan as you are said, well, he's got improve shallow. But that's what he's going to work on all F C come back is going to be a better first year. He's just getting his NBA feet wet and showed the spectacular things that he can do any aspect of his game that we haven't seen from guys his size ever before. And man could that be a major positive for him? Now, he's gotta do is improve his jump shot. Some he's shot his as bad if not worse this year. So since Ben Simmons seems to have taken a step back. It's gotta be someone else's fault. Because we can't look Ben Simmons at all. Let's kinda on him. He should have improved his jump shot coming into this year. And he hasn't markup ulcers a disappointment. There's no two Fs and or buts about it. And they're trying to get something out of him. Ben the head coach is not about to just write him off because. Yes, it doesn't look like his game. Coexist. Well with Ben Simmons. Here's a novel idea work on it trying improve it that what the coach is trying to do. It's something that apparently Ben Simmons didn't do enough hub during this off season trying to prove his jump shot. Now at some point you gotta just say all right experimentation is over we're into the season. Our only goal is to win game in game out. We figure out what's best. What works and we go from there. And if that means markup waltz on a bench, meet markup on the bench. But they're not ready to go there yet. But Ben Simmons can still kind of work on a jump shot and try and get better at it. Eight eight eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four. Join amac. Open violence got an hour and change to play pretty open lines. Get Yana in a hurry. If you dial..

"I can see Martin Ray Molin being understanding and say, well, it's players steam, whatever they didn't lie there. You know, they, but if I'm Debu Shay. I'm just seething. Well, I I would be too because you always stand up for friends more than self, right? I would say to those guys guys. Okay. You only greatness. That's what I would say. You mean you the team and you will Martin remark greatness? If you got all these problems with Martin Remond and find because they're their penalty kill has been a problem. You have to be great for us. And that's I would say to all those players. I would say all those players you're entitled because everybody their boss. That's fine. But you have to show that you have earned the right to complain. Like that did you know, what do I did about their penalty? Kill the next night against New Jersey. Didn't take a penalty until midway through the third was a distinct someone with a high stick. I was watching mostly Toronto Montreal because that game was applauded at the time. So I was watching Toronto which was still closed and I was watching Montreal good game against Rangers. Good game. Yeah. Beautiful. And then all of a sudden, my Twitter people started tweeting just what we were here for. Go come on. But that's when I realized that killed them both off. But that's what I would do if I was a coach I would say you guys have to be great for me. Now, you have to be great. All right and seen moving along. I thought something you've heard about was of Vancouver and fun meter survey. That was pretty NBA. I'm always trees about rejuvenating fan bases in sticking the thermometer in the fan base and find out what they want and how it affects what you do by way of game operations. I'm really curious. And Chicago went through this and Toronto may still be going through this. How you turn over that next wave of season ticket holder up when it's really expensive. And you've priced people out of the Bill like I went when I was a kid you won't you're a kid eight dollar tickets. And you know, we go through the greens and go sit in the grays every now, and then we were lucky would get a read gold gold center ice. Would you find that under the tree? I love the grays. I love seeing the graves at maple leaf gardens. We the guy that always said Argo smells. Chicken underrated seats gardens blues. Really sat in those. I believe Bryan spears. Dad bronze Brazil, Haagen Canada are of your show his data. I think has seemed to get the blues we've gotten fun meters surveys Hoover. So a meal was just telling me my the Blue Jays do something like this too. So what can I do for the last four years? They pick us let group of soon ticket holders and some people who they know have bought one game tickets, and they send them out a thing about all their entire experience. How was it getting into the game? How are the concessions? How was the food? How was your game experience? You know, one thing that they that I heard they started changing this year was you'd go to commercial break say coming up this week at Rogers place. Here's Drake or something. They've started doing Pederson highlights or more giveaways stuff like that. So basically, it's you know, you grade year you have your fans grade their experience at every game. So I found out that in the four years they've been doing this the game that got the highest score was. Last Friday night Pedersen's five points. Imagine that. Game too seriously. It's funny. How much better the beer tastes and short on the lineups are when Ilyas Pedersen's getting five points tangles in ten games. And that goal last night. It was the it's the Gretzky goal on Vernon. Lines that is bold. And that is brass Pederson up the left wing steps into a slump. Trotted scores. Only pederson. Oh, my word again top shelf on Jimmy Howard. An absolute howitzer knocks lead one nothing. Oh my God. Just when I think this kid has at all showed me, everything and nine games. He goes down the wing on the far side. He's got an open shot at the top of the circles from an impossible angle. Any bulls a slap shot by Jimmy Howard over the glove off the post. Now as many people have pointed out, you know, enjoy it..
