"The. From Saint George to Saint Albans from city island city hall and right here in the People's Republic of Brooklyn. It's five PM in the five boroughs, which time for max and Murphy. You're interviewing Colin show on the policies, politics, and people of New York City in New York state. I'm Jared Murphy from city limits, dot org, underspend max from Gotham gazette dot com. Jerick good to see you. You too. We last spoke on primary eve feels like it was about two years ago. Yes, it's quite a few news cycle since then, the primary fallout everything happening, of course, with the Trump administration and the cavenaugh confirmation or not lots of things happening of course, but we continue now with our election focus, and we're back now post primary moving into the general election. I know we've already done that with a couple of articles Gotham gazette and we're starting to really dig into these general election contests in New York where we've got fewer than fifty days. Until election day. Seven day. Yes, thanks counting. So we've got some really interesting things to dig into. We're starting with that here today. Although part of the show is also looking back. That's right. We'll be speaking today with mock mar Mark. Molinaro. Sorry, who is the gubernatorial candidate for the Republican party beyond a few minutes after that will hear a conversation been? I had earlier today with Rebecca cats who is the chief strategist for Cynthia Nixon's gubernatorial campaign. So look forward and a look back and Ben, the governor's race is obviously at the top of the ticket, the top of the table in terms of the fall contests were watching, but what are some of the other ones that interest you most? So folks understand now, even though we had this contentious democratic primary for Lieutenant governor. Now it's a ticket gov- Lieutenant governor. So we don't really need to worry about voting on the Lieutenant governor line. Although those candidates complain important role, but beyond governor, you know, attorney general controller races, certainly. And then we have the state Senate. It's really where so much of the focus and action is going to be and in the primaries, most of that was New York City. And now most of it moves out of New York City. We should also note that while both of our publications focus on city and state level politics and government, there's federal level elections happening that are really important. There's one US Senate race in New York. Kirsten gillibrand being challenged by Republican candidate shell Farley, but also really the house delegation. Elections is are of utmost importance with Democrats trying to flip seats in New York to contribute to a national wave. They're hoping flips the chamber and one of those potentially flippable races in New York City in Staten Island and Brooklyn. Eleventh district currently represented by Dan Donovan, the former DA there max rose. An army veteran is challenging him. That's a contentious race. There are others in New York state and the state Senate. As you mentioned, one of at least one of the racist people are watching some degree. Is in the confines of New York City that is the Martin golden seat Republican Senator long-serving from Brooklyn being challenged by Angelino artists, a democrat who ran against before and did. Okay for guy, challenging incumbent six years ago, six years ago, and we'll see what's different if anything this time. But yeah, most of the action they're moving upstate, but you hit on a good point which is that there's at least one house race and one state Senate race in the city confines at folks should know about and certainly will be getting a lot of attention. And then we move into some of the swing districts, Hudson valley, Long Island, and even some other places throughout the state where you know you have pockets where it's more about. Can the Democrats kind of compete with Republicans at when you get outside of New York City and a lot of instances, one of the fascinating things here as we move to the general election is governor Cuomo. He comes out of the primary having won by a fairly wide margin, but definitely bruised not only with. Some of the missteps that he made in the campaign, but also the fact that you had this riled up at least third of the democratic primary electorate really going after him. I mean, we'll hear from Rebecca cats in the second half of the show who ran in the Nixon campaign more or less, and they were really attacking him throughout the campaign. And that's fodder perhaps for Mark Molinaro our guests in a couple of minutes to us as well as other gubernatorial candidates. So the Cuomo situations, very interesting. Not only can he prevail in the election, but he's already made it his stated mission to help flip the Senate flip the house. So that's just a fascinating through line there. Of course it is. And I think there's an interesting interplay between the federal story and the state story that Cuomo is going to be at the center of which is that in a lot of his advertisements, even before the primary when he was running against other democrat, he was really running against Donald Trump. He probably plans to do that again in his race against Molinaro. That will be a conversation. I'm sure that the Republicans. Tried to try to differentiate a bit. It is it's already the conversation that he's having and even released an ad today. Attacking Mark Bonar who's gonna be our guest in mere seconds as Trump mini-me me, which is their standard line. And of course, you know, governor Cuomo has been running throughout against Donald Trump and his trying to continue to do that. And we're, of course now going to be joined on the line by Mark Molinaro the duchess county executive and gubernatorial nominee from not only the Republican party, but the conservative party and the Reform Party as well. Mr.. Molinaro. Thanks for joining us on WBAI with Jared Murphy and Ben max. It's Mark. Don't ever call me Mr., but thank you. Good to have you on. Thanks for joining us. So for folks who are getting their first introduction to you, I know you've been traveling around the stay with a very busy campaign schedule, including New York City, but for listeners who might be getting their first inkling of who you are and what you're out. Tell us a little bit before we get into your platform. Who are you? Where'd you come from? What do you do? Why you. You know, I'm the county decorative in duchess of served as duchess county executive for the last seven years. And prior that six years in the New York state assembly, but I began my public service career is an eighteen year old, decided that my hometown government wasn't paying attention to the needs of my community and decided to run. I ran for the village board of trustees and year later in nineteen ninety five at the age of nineteen. I, I was elected mayor of my hometown sex every day of my life trying to make government work for people. And as account executive last six years, I've watched the state of New York become too expensive for too many people. I've seen the failure state government in so many ways into corrupted administration, defraud taxpayers. So I sort of compelled Theron but to be to be, you know, more personal. I, I tell you, and I think you guys know this. I, I have a wonderful wife and three children were expecting our forth on his way later in in November two, boys and girls. My daughter Abigail was born on the autism spectrum was some developmental disabilities, and we we live with the same challenges that a lot of families with with all cross the

Say golden and existing law covers those who give medical aid to an ailing person without expectation of reward. But this is expectation of war, five hundred dollars. And the union will pay for awards, but it's official pro cop groups and private individuals team. They didn't give me any details about what would constitute enough help to warn and the war. Although the union noted they're grabbing and holding the suspect whom the cows are chasing would qualify. Put your book in harriett zone. That's a fucking problem. Randomly put your fucking and what happened to Depres a fucking fights you back because you're not the cops and Whoopi LA as you touching me four. So what am I going to be charged? Whooping civilians ain't had no business jumping in right now, get double charges resisting arrest from a citizen and the props..

"This has got to stop and hopefully this program will incentive incentivize good Samaritans to do the right thing down this things I've heard in New York, Brooklyn state Senator Martin golden full on moron. And a retired cop will introduce a new good Samaritan law to shield civilians from liability. If they help cops Bill still being drafted. Oh, okay. So this isn't even push through yet as he's a great a maroon early. This is some paper. I'm reading the current good Samaritan law does not. Is it the post because that could actually be in the post all? In all fairness, they had a lot of opinion changes the word maroon. The current good Samaritan law does not protect citizens who assist first responders is my intent as a great aim maroon to introduce legislation in the Senate that corrects this shortcoming. I just put my. They could've left that statement out. I feel like. Statement. An existing law covers those who give medical aid ailing persons without expectation of reward. While this is the next logical step. See if your doctor and you see somebody having a heart attack when working with the police, you may jump in for no compensation. The next step tackle this shit out of somebody being asked to get out of their car and stand there and wait for a payday. A union made up of other Maroons will pay for wards, but it's a ficials hope that pro cop groups and private individuals will pitch in with the money. Yeah. Idiots continued to say they didn't give many details about what would constitute enough help to Warner reward. Yeah. Why year down? Sure. Yeah. Although the union. This is. That's real paper. All of the union noted that grabbing and holding suspect the cops would chasing qualify. Legally when somebody says hands up, don't shoot. They're not talking to you a fellow civilian, right? And you make carry on with your actions. Okay. They said a panel of experts would rule whether any assistance merited a payout experts in what? Yes. Ex experts expert video camera. When the experts are done, training, teachers, how to shoot guns. Experts will then judge shouldn't cops be so offended that we're trying to give a guns to teachers and and the ability to just chime into their work. Can you imagine like librarians don't let us do that. This article with a little embarrassment is from the New York Post page. Eleven. If you would like to rip it out, like I did and curate around with you like a bag. Well, you can also carry it. And then when the Cup goes, what the fuck are you doing? Pull that out and go, hey, where's my five hundred dollars off? Pay up. I think two hundred cash now. Well, he highlighted what I love about. Easy highlight you highlight the most important or is comedic silly parts. And that thing is covered in yellow highlighter. You have been earlier all I saw across shove shit. Oh, come on high lighters that I waste. Swipe. Some support the union plan as half the world is made up of complete jackass. I love that idea said a police source who probably has a family whose hopefully his wife is fucking as friends. Now you're actually going to have people out there trying to help stop crimes. But others thought would just raise new problems. They think tank got them sitting. I like the others like others, but I'm already of people who heard this, but here's the others. These others also real shit birds saying why not just appeal to people to try to help a cop? What did we have to pay them? Fizeau high ranking police source and somebody that tries to correct so head. His problem is the finances of it. Yeah, that's what he has an issue because you're in society. How about instead of a five hundred dollar ward? Maybe a gift certificates to off Off is. is or Starbucks or target. You help save the day and take me out for. In the air of Trump and the alt-right says, a civil liberties grew. This is going to be great..
