What Is the Way Forward for Republicans?
"We better start making some decisions fast. We got two years to try to get this right. We have to understand that we got to be more strategic, we should have learned through the midterms that coming out being ultra ultra ultra, magga and all this stuff. People can't digest it properly. And maybe we need to work on the way we say things, not be fraudulent, but work on the way we say things and say things that are maybe more important to people than that's important to be in the shock factor. Going viral. Because you can say certain things to people to make them feel comfortable that you are a candidate that they can vote for, even if they don't agree with everything you say. And once you get in office, you can do whatever you want to do. And when I say do whatever you want to do, you can be a little more conservative in office. oh, I like the way he's governing. I like the way he's in the Senate. Oh, this is what a conservative can do. I'm glad I took a chance. Let me give you an example. Let me give you an example. Kyrsten sinema in a state of Arizona. She will not lose her seat to a Republican ever. Now, Mark Kelly might kyrsten sinema won't. And I'm not going to lie. I don't agree with kyrsten sinema. She's a Democrat. However, the way she votes, I can respect it. For the most part, I can respect it. I don't lose sleep at night over Kirsten sinema. She fights back when I think it's reasonable to fight back and she goes on a Democrat side and sometimes I don't agree with her. But I respect her enough that if they ran a Martha mcsally against her, she's a better candidate in Martha mcsally.

"Joining us now is the great Blake masters who has had more opposition thrown at him than any other candidate that I have seen in recent memory and he is now tied in the latest Democrat poll, that's right, the Democrat poll has Blake masters tied Kerry Lake up four and Blake masters tied. I think that's actually right. I think, I mean, look, Katie Hobbs is no astronaut, wouldn't you say Blake, welcome back to the program. She's no astronaut indeed. I've been joking with Carrie. I say Carrie. I think Katie Hobbs is the second worst. You have a legitimately appealing candidate you're running against. He's super radical. He's awful, but I mean, let's just be honest, it's not an easy race. You're doing a great job. Talk about your race. What are you seeing on the ground? Well, I do think we've tied it up. We have the momentum. You know, the Democrats, they thought they could just buy it. Mark Kelly spent 80 million bucks. You know, I think 30 of it attacking me. They have to lie about me and slander me. And then they also have to lie about him. They're propping him up. He's pretending on people's television screens to be some kind of center right Republican. All of a sudden, I stand up to Joe Biden, and it's like, what, when? I wish he did, but of course in D.C. he never does. He's a rubber stamp for Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer has failed agenda. And we've just been getting that message out. And I think people are finally really waking up, right? People are looking around and saying, am I better off now than I was two or three years ago? The answer is almost always a resounding no. Like Mark Kelly really has helped the Democrat. He's done more than anyone to help Joe Biden drag this country and our state further and further in the wrong direction. So it's tightening up. We've got the momentum. I'd rather be asked to name right now. That's for sure. Yeah, I totally agree. And that's a Democrat poll, and it's really it's really incredible.
New Debate Drama Emerges in Race for Arizona Governor
"Katie Hobbs of the state of Arizona. The wackiest candidate since Martha mcsally, 'cause I ain't gonna lie. Martha receipt was a Republican and I think she wanted to whack his candidates that there were out there. I don't know how she was when she first was in office or whatever, but towards the end when she ran against she end up losing against Mark Kelly and losing against I forget the other lady's name now. She had to lose them both sentence seats. Kyrsten sinema. How does one person lose both sentences? She was already appointed by deducing because of the death of McCain, she ended up losing that seat when it was up for reelection. When she was up for reelection, and then she ended up running against Mark Kelly and losing Allen. She literally lost both seats. You can not be a quality candidate and do that. But Katie Hobbs is have to be the worst candidate that I've ever seen. This lady refused to debate Carrie Lake. You can not run for governor and refuse to debate the other gubernatorial candidate. He just looked like a wimp. It's already bad enough she's trying to run our country and she looked soft. But then when you're running from people, you're afraid you don't want to debate fool you in politics. How are you not going to debate? And so project veritas, which I think is an incredible organization. I don't know how to get these people to do secret conversations with people, but they get it. And they just pretty much exposed their campaign. She's not trying to debate we carry Lake because she don't want to. She knows it's not going to benefit because Carrie Lake is going to destroy under the debate. And she's hoping that the Democrats will vote for it just because she's a Democrat, she got D next to her name. That's what people in her campaign are saying.

"What's your understanding of how the far right came to take over the Republican Party in Arizona? Was a part of a larger Republican strategy that was well funded by the RNC, was it more of an internal movement in Arizona, partly from the actual grassroots? Well, so there was some funding done by right-wing organizations that were homegrown that the preside in Arizona. But a lot of it, Terry was also complacency on the part of the establishment and they had been asleep at the switch. It was described to me and the people who control politics at the very base, the so called precinct committee men and women. Those positions were just kind of occupied by status quo people, but then over time, far right people began to run for those positions and they began to take them and then they began to espouse. Certain things that were incorporated in the party platform. And then ultimately in the beginning of 2019, Kelly ward became this grassroots maverick who launched this improbable campaign after having lost twice in U.S. Senate candidacy first against McCain in 2016 and then in 2018 against Martha mcsally. And the grassroots supporter and she took over the party. And the moment that that happened, the party was all in with Donald Trump. She visited Mar-a-Lago. She made sure that Trump was aware of her and the Arizona party's loyalties to Trump. She changed the name of from the Arizona Republican Party to the Republican Party of Arizona, a rather subtle distinction. But one basically intended to say to the establishment, it's not your party anymore. And so now the party very much reflects her and the grassroots activists who have come to take it over and they have written and passed recently something that essentially invalidates the 2020 election or says that we do not recognize its results. So it's really as radical right as any state party can be. In America. And it would be in its own curious way and a kind of cool expression of democracy because it is very grassroots. This did not come from a country club. It did not come from a smoke filled room. But for the actual positions that they take and the actual philosophies that they espouse, which are fundamentally anti democratic. Let's take another break here if you're just joining us, my guest is Robert Draper, he's been covering conservative politics for about 20
Blake Masters Is Going to Be BOLD on the Issues
"Someone just emailed us, quote, Mark Kelly is guilty of lying in his latest campaign ad. This is not right and Blake needs to call him out on it. So this is a long email here, but you're going to run a different type of campaign, not the kind of Martha mcsally type campaign, is that right? That's right. We're going to be bold on the issues. You know, I'm not going to shy away. I'm not going to attack Mark Kelly's character. We don't need to do. Why would I want to do that? We'll just tell the truth about his record. He promised to be an independent and actually he's just delivering inflation, open borders, everything that's ruining this country.

"I want your thoughts, freedom at Charlie Kirk dot com. And we're getting a lot of emails on this. Raymond says this, Charlie, if your competitor is making mistakes, do not interrupt them. That's really wise. It's, it goes both ways, though, because we also don't want to lose in the general election either. Now, I'm under the belief that you got to nominate the most conservative candidate that can win. Know the district, know the state, and generally almost always as a rule of thumb. If the media says they're too conservative, that means they're probably right over the mark of what you actually should have. But this is not just happening in one area. This is happening also in California. It's happened in Colorado. It happened in Maryland. It happened, as I mentioned in Pennsylvania. Democrats, the new Democrat strategy right now is the deploy resources early. Against candidates that they think are easier to beat. Look, every election in some sense is a base election in a post Trump era in most districts. And I believe after consideration and looking at all of this, I think Democrats are going to deeply regret the deployment of valuable resources in these primaries that will only elevate the more conservative grassroots candidate. I think that their metrics are all wrong here. Our base is animated. We have the momentum. I think the Democrats are making a massive and catastrophic mistake. And I'm not going to be one to stop them here. But albeit, it does make me feel a little bit, there's some murkiness to it when you see Democrats start running ads for Republicans. It should make you give you pause. Like, wait a second. That doesn't make any sense. The Democrats think the more moderate candidate is harder to beat. That's not always true. If your base stays home, then you could lose very, very winnable races. This is happening all across the country. I want your thoughts, freedom, Charlie Kirk dot com. If you found out a massive Democrat group is coming to support your preferred candidate, does that impact your choice? Or does it reaffirm that they actually might be the biggest threat? Because they think it would be easier to beat in a general. There are many examples of Republican establishment candidates that have lost over the last couple of years because the base stayed at home. Martha mcsally would be an example twice in Arizona, two winnable races. We're blessed to live in the greatest nation ever to exist in the history of the world. Luke 1248 says quote to whom much has been given, much will be required. We as Christians can shape our world. One of these ways is how we steward our finances and our money. If you have money in stocks, you have the power to affect change through your investments. Jesus spoke about money and roughly 15% of his teachings, and 11 out of 39 of his parables. How do we follow his teachings about money? Well, my friends at pax financial can help. I've opened an account with them. I think very highly of them. They are fiduciaries that will make sure you have a responsible plan to retire. I trust them with my money, and I hope you will as well. "You know, I pretend that I really hate Michael. But really, it's not hatred. It's more just a strong and intense dislike. You heard it here. First game. Make sure to check out the Michael Moles show. So, Blake What is the the kind of polling telling you at this point about Mark Kelly? Status? He won very narrowly against a lacklustre candidate in Martha McSally who actually lost before, obviously and then was appointed to fill a seat after she had lost an election already. So now you're running against Kelly, number one was the polling Tell you at number two. Where do you think his chief sort of issue vulnerabilities? Why? Why are you the best person? Take those on Yeah, his favor. Unfavourably. She looks exactly like any far left candidate Who's you know, not been out there. Kirsten Cinemas taking the arrows for Mark Kelly at this point, so I think his favorables are still Pretty high. Um, but they're going down. They're going down with The failures of the Biden administration. I think those are going to sink even more. I don't think anyone thinks the next 15 months are going to be particularly good for the Biden administration for the Democrats, and so we'll have to make sure that people know even though Mark Kelly is getting out there and speaking in cliches, even though he won't get out there and tell you what he actually thinks. He must be in favour of this crazy Biden administration, and they're crazy agenda because he just votes in lockstep to serve it. And so I think we have some work to do there. But, you know, he just ran because he's an astronaut. You know, he stood by his his wife after that horrific attack, But he didn't have a track record, and this time he's building up a track record, and I think his voters come to acquaint themselves with that track record. You know they're going to be freaked out. Um, why am I the best person to beat him? I do think it's hard to beat an incumbent Democrat. We know this. It's going to take something fresh and new And if you run the same kind of cookie cutter candidates, you'll get the same kind of results in an Arizona that means narrow losses to Democrats. That will increasingly be less narrow. And so I think we can't run someone boring. I think we can't run someone who's only going to, you know, act like a politician and do this weird thing with their hand and tell you consultant provided talking points. People are sick of that. And you know, I just I'm a millennial. I'm 35 years old, I think have my finger on the pulse of what's gone wrong in this country, not just in the in the last eight months of Biden Harris, but also just in the last couple of decades. Like I can speak to this question. Why do Millennials and Zoomer feel like they're never going to be able to afford a house? Why does it feel like everything is a racket, you know, designed to keep them down because this is how people feel And the problem is too many young people look at that. They feel jaded. You know, they stopped believing in the American dream, and then they go off to some far left. Bernie Sanders. You know, Communist politics? Well, that doesn't work. That's a dead end. Right, but I think I sort of common sense. Healthy nationalism, a real patriotism, A real focus on how can we have a good American future? Delivered by like a young person. I think that's a message. People haven't heard before and in, at least in quite a long time. So, Blake, you're coming from the tech world, obviously, and one of the things that you talk pretty frequently about is the risks of big tech and the sort of control the big tech has over our lives. What do you think, is the best way to handle the threats that the big tech poses? Because on the one hand big tech provides, you know all sorts of great Products and services at affordable prices to people they provide. You know, Facebook is free for people to use. It comes along with the risk of Facebook Mighty platform you at any moment. Meanwhile, Democrats have been openly threatening big tax saying that if they don't do what Democrats want them to do then there will be consequences for that. So if you're you're you're libertarian leaning person. What do you think is the best solution to deal with the Possible predations of big tech. Yeah, Well, I'm not that libertarian on big tack. Um and I used to be, And I think you've gotta update as time goes on in these companies show themselves. First of all, they've just gotten more and more powerful every year, Right. At this point. Google buys one company a week. They have for 15 years, mostly in order to quash it. Right, So I think there's a lot of anti competitive conduct even on traditional antitrust grounds. But I think we give him the whole kitchen sink. I think section 2 30 protections should be repealed. If these companies want to act like publishers, not platforms. I'm interested in in treating these companies like common carriers, right phone company can't kick you and I off because we have a conversation about your, you know, right leaning podcast. So why should Facebook or Twitter be able to do that? I'm interested in exploring antitrust, right? Maybe some of these laws you mentioned Facebook was free. A lot of the antitrust laws were written, you know, to protect people from price gouging. Um, Facebook doesn't price gouge the product is free for you to use because you are the product in some sense. And so I think the up, uh, the FTC antitrust regime. We need to update all those laws to apply to big tech. But then I'm even interested in going after just the addictiveness. Or the the business model of targeted advertising itself. Already coming up more with Blake Masters, of course, again is a Senate candidate in Arizona against Mark Kelly. Republicans need to take back the Senate. This could be a key seat. We'll speak more to Blake about that. In just a moment. This is the bench bureau show. Myself. ABC defendable traffic.

They don't give any updates anymore but they haven't said they're done. What are they doing. What are they planning on doing with whatever results. They finally announced well the day after tomorrow former president. Donald trump is going to maricopa county arizona. This is his first trip to arizona's since he lost reelection With the help of his loss in that swing state he's going to arizona on saturday to hype the sabre ninja audit there. What he's calling a rally to protect our elections. The arizona republic sort of gently puts it to their readers. Quote trump continues to falsely claim. It's thirty five dollars for a small or forty five dollars for a double extra large which frankly seems rude. The washington post tonight reports that former president trump appears to a found a tidy path through the wreckage to pay his living expenses via this nonsense that he continues to stoke the headline in the post tonight quote. Trump's pack political action committee collected seventy five million dollars this year but so far the group has not put money into pushing for the two thousand twenty ballot reviews. He doubts. Here's the lead former president. Donald trump's political pack raised about seventy five million dollars in the first half of this year as he trumpeted the false notion. The two thousand twenty election was stolen from him. The pack has not devoted funds to help finance the ongoing review arizona or to push for similar endeavors and other states according to people familiar with the finances instead the save america leadership pac which has few limits on how it can spend its money instead of paying for the actual audits and stuff what it's instead paying for is some of the former presidents travel legal costs and staff along with other expenses. According to the people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the groups works. So dude is raising money for this. Pack save america by saying he needs to save america. And the ways gonna save. America's you need to give him money. So he can fund these efforts to overturn the election result so we can be rightfully reinstated along with martha mcsally. But then he's not actually spending any of the money on anything like that at all. What is he using it to pay for again. Though was the list there. The pack is being spent. The pac money is being spent on quote. The former presidents travel legal costs and staff and other expenses. Yeah other expenses. Stop the steel. Buy me lunch quote since leaving. "Mark Brnovich, who has been Arizona's attorney general. Since winning that office in 2014 is running for the United States Senate in an attempt to unseat Democrat Mark Kelly. We need an Arizona conservative in Washington. Stands up for us and our values someone who's been tested someone who won't go run and hide at the first sign of trouble. Yeah, and political opponents have been trying to figure out what Berna vich was going to do for a while. This was the odds on favorite he was going to run for the Senate, so not really a big surprise, even trusted elected officials to protect us in our freedoms. And they failed. I'm Mark Brnovich and trust and freedom are more than words to me, Boy. If he's going to want to continue to put out those kind of videos and run ads, and I know that sounds like an ad their form, but we're just playing some of his announcement video, uh, he's going to have to raise a bunch of money and you were just mentioning, you know. Stan Barnes, Arizona political consultant. Right, says he's going to have to raise tens of millions of dollars. Yeah, because of the people he's going up against. Yes, right. Mark Kelly is a national star in the Democratic Party. My brother, who is a lifelong Democrat. And, uh, you know, super excited when Kelly announced and he gave money, and he doesn't live in Arizona, and, uh but, yeah, people super excited, So you've got to raise a lot of money to compete against Mark Kelly. And I thought this is interesting because Arizona political consultant Stan Barnes said he'll need to make more national media appearances in order to do that, And I ask Is that possible? Because I gotta tell you, I don't know how many times after the show is done, and I'm sitting in another studio and I look up at the monitors, and then I opened the door to the studio. I yell out in the newsroom Berna bitches on Fox News again. So you know, so we can record it, you know, and maybe use it, But I'm seeing him on the national news all the time. He's getting interviewed all the time. I wonder if he does make it to Capitol Hill. If he'll start a new fashion trend there. What's that? He always wears tennis shoes with his suits. He does. And, uh, is he going to take the nunchucks to, uh to the well there you go to the U. S Senate as well, which is famous for none checking in the hallways of the Attorney General's office. And also famous for a couple other things like he's a. He's a grateful dead fan, Um, a lot of things that are a little different about Mark Burnett Bitch right? And I don't mean that in a bad way. I really don't know He's super nice. It's very pleasant guy to do so. Here's who's now officially running in the Republican Party to unseat Democrat Mark Kelly in the U. S. Senate. Jim Lemon Lemon, who is a solar power business, man, You've got the former accident general of the Arizona National Guard Michael Maguire, who announced a recently and then there's a guy I've never I really don't know much about Robert Pay Visa is a software engineer. He's announced that he's running as a Republican as well, Uh and here's where it gets interesting because I don't think they have any animosity between them, but but Governor Ducey and Mark Berna vich for being the number one and number three highest elected official statewide in Arizona. They don't really have a big bond. And I am almost positive that Michael Maguire, the Arizona National Guard, former general, uh you know is going to be endorsed by do see. Kind of behind closed doors like he he sought his permission to run. Uh And so I think that's it's going to be interesting to see how that all plays out. Now we still could see Andy Biggs running for this. The congressman who represents the East Valley could have. Kirk Adams, who's the former House speaker in the Arizona Legislature, served as do sees chief of staff and as always, You've got to consider Kelli Ward, Um, who apparently is still mulling over the idea of running for the U. S senate. This would be for the third time. The last two times she ran. She didn't even when the primary so, but think about this. Jimmy, This is fascinating to me, if if for some reason, uh, a Republican unseats Mark Kelly. You will have had since 2018 between 2018 and 2022. You would have had 12345 U. S senators. Sitting in that seat. Remember John McCain passed away in 2018, Then Jon Kyl, the former Arizona US senator stepped in to fill that seat for a while. Martha McSally appointed to it by Governor Ducey. And then Mark Kelly wanted and now it's going to be up again in 2022. And if somebody else would that would be fascinating. Five people having said in that U S Senate seat over the course of four years, it's 5 20. Now at K T a R. Back, we go to the Valley Chevy Dealers Traffic.

We have much better policy and are much better for the country, but the Democrats stick together. Republicans Don't They don't have the Romneys Little Ben Sasse is and Cheney's of the world. Unfortunately, we do. Sometimes there are consequences to being ineffective and weak. The voters understand. On. He's absolutely right about that. So I'm using the magma movement Update update you on the latest on the election audits right now, The Arizona audit has been paused. But it really did restarts this coming Monday. May the 24th I can tell you right now. 20% of the audit has been completed of the They got all the data they needed off the machines on Now they're examining the the data from the ballots and the machines and they're going through that data, and there have been So far, reports of massive irregularities Bala duplications, no original balance could be found. So there's going to be again 20% so it might take They've asked for an extension to June 30th take his long as you want. I don't want it done, right. So don't don't box yourself in with a deadline. Make sure that you get everything that you need. On that the database has been recovered. So they've got that's so yesterday. The former special assistant president Trump. Boris Epstein described the road ahead for election integrity, and he talked about the thief freight crane that's coming and started in Arizona and Vernon Jones is upping the ante and in Georgia earnings efforts yesterday in Georgia. Absolute ground break Let me tell you that the very tip of the spear People who are very interested in this. That's put it that way. Well, extremely oozy aspect about Vernon's efforts in Georgia should calling for a full forensic audit in Georgia the same way it's being conducted in Arizona and even CNN. Did ahead behind which they couldn't really spend. They said Trump allies calling for an Arizona type on it in Georgia to me. I treated that out as a thanks for a great job and a brother retreated because that was a great thing. That is a positive. The dominoes are starting to fall. The great trade is coming through across the country of these forensic audits. In the media. The Democrats, the legal community absolutely cannot take that exactly right. The dominoes are starting to fall. We're hearing rumblings out of Pennsylvania, Of course in Michigan. We know what's going on there and and from county Andre Michigan and a broader sense also that Wisconsin very easy. Wisconsin just in Milwaukee, If you just focus on Dane County, in where Madison is, we know from the author was already done in those two counties that they found over 200,000. Unlawful ballots in an election that was decided by 20,000. So you could make an argument right now It looks like the Arizona If the Arizona audit of turns out the way we think it's going to That the Arizona would flip. Of course, it will mean anything because you had Chairman Jo has already been sworn in and certified. Thanks, Mike Pence on then, but of course it could affect the years in the Senate race. That could be Martha McSally lost to the astronaut so they could affect the Senate race in Georgia. Not going to change the presidential election could affect the Senate races there with Warnock. On the other character has also off. So then again we're talking about. Perhaps if you have another election in Georgia, one that's run on the up in fair and square. That the balance of power in the Senate might change. In addition, you have Pennsylvania on Michigan and Wisconsin. So good news. They're the Arizona secretary of state. She's a Democrat, Katie Hobbs. Says the election machines in the audit Should never be used again. And you know what? I agree with her? I don't think any election machines machines rather should ever be used again, especially ones with any connection to Dominion voting for our country. And for our Children, The best is yet to come. In some 23 times, traffic.

The backlash continues against Republicans who voted to convict former President Trump last weekend. North Carolina's Republican Party expected to censure Senator Richard Burr for voting yes on impeachment conviction Saturday. Louisiana's Republican Party also centering Senator Bill Cassidy for his trump guilty vote. Wyoming Republicans did the same for Congresswoman Liz Cheney in the House. Unclear if those states voters or parties will drop support for report. Begins who went against the former president That is a B C's Andy field. Both of Arizona's Democrats, senators, including Mark Kelly, voted to convict President Trump and his impeachment trial. What does that mean for his political future? I posed that question to ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts today on Arizona's Morning news state like Arizona, which is these days, one of the most closely balanced states in the whole country. It can be a problem for someone like Kelly, particularly if the Republicans nominate a popular candidate, which Roberts points out, they failed to do, citing losses by Martha McSally in both 2018 and 2020. Senator Kelly is up for re election next November. Jeremy Foster Key to our news, Senator Kirsten center. Also voted to convict Trump of incitement of insurrection. He was acquitted of the charge on Saturday. "Be he is hereby acquitted of the charge in CID article, all right, for the second time in as many years, Donald Trump acquitted of impeachment. That was the voice of presiding Senator Patrick Leahy. Joining us now to talk more about that. Steve Roberts, political analyst for ABC News, Steve Good morning. We knew what the good Yeah, we knew what the outcome of this impeachment trial would be. Now that Donald Trump has been acquitted. Is Congress finished going after him since he's no longer in office. Loved or there were two trials going on. At the same time, the legal trial and the political trial. And Trump was judged innocent and the legal trial or at least exonerated. But in many ways he was judged guilty in the political trial when you got Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader of the Senate, who voted to acquit, Trump gets up minutes later and delivers an excoriating speech attacking Trump's behavior. That was a political trial, and that was a political judgment and so going forward you have and growing split in the Republican Party over the future of Trump and Trumpism, The loyal base of the party remains strong and states like Arizona, there's no doubt about it. But a growing number of Republicans unhappy with Donald Trump and looking for new leadership, and you could see it in the speeches of people like McConnell week before Liz Cheney, the number three Republican in the House, made it even more critical speech of the president. You get. Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina, was rising star in the Republican Party, saying In an interview with the Mist Ake for the Republican Party to follow Donald Trump's lead so you can start to see those fissures and fractures starting to split the Republican Party in a more serious way now that Trump is out of office. ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts. Joining us now will to others who voted guilty on Trump voted to convict Arizona Senator's Kirsten Senator Mark Kelly, both considered to be among the more moderate Democrats, especially Steve. With Mark Kelly, running for re election next year. How will his decision to vote to convict impact is Shot at winning or will it impact at all? Well, it's a very good question. And in a state like Arizona, um, which is one of the these days, one of the most closely balanced states in the whole country, we know that Um, it can be a problem for someone like Kelly, particularly if the Republicans nominate a popular candidate. Frankly, part of the problem that the Republicans have had in Arizona's. They've nominated weak candidates for the U. S Senate. That's why you have to Democrats. You know, Martha McSally was just not very good candidate. She lost twice. And so the part of it is who were they gonna run against? And part of it is, uh, it does the Republican Party lash itself to Donald Trump. In a state like Arizona of it. There's no doubt that there remains a very strong base that certainly the chairman of the Republican Party there. Kelly Ward is a is a huge trump supporter. And I, you know people understand that But is that enough is that a majority in a state like Arizona, which voted for Joe Biden is trumpism and majority in a state like Georgia, which also elected two Democratic senators. This is the growing problem for the Republican Party. Is, if you last yourself to Donald Trump and Trump is, um, this is a highly polarizing figure on in politics. For every action. There's a reaction and you can certainly argue than in a state like Arizona. One of the reasons why it went for Joe Biden was not because people love Joe Biden not because people were excited about Joe Biden. Everybody understands that It went for you. I went for Biden because a growing number of Republicans were disillusioned with Donald Trump. 8% doesn't sound like a lot of 8% of the Republicans who voted for Trump and took 2000 and 16 voters providing in 2020 state like Arizona. That's enoughto really swing the election. It was enough to swing it in. George, it was enough to swing it in Michigan and Pennsylvania and Wisconsin in any close states. So going forward Republican Party got a real problem. If it lashes itself to Donald Trump and Trump is, um All right. That's Steve Roberts, ABC news political analyst. Thank you so much for your time. Steve. Enjoy your President's Day. It's 6 19 now in time for a tech check with Kim.

"Like broom head show. On Katya, Our news 92 3 FM and the K t A R news app. Hey, thanks so much for being here. Very interesting. Oh H predictive Insights is a polling company, local pollster here in town. And they put together a list of top 10 list. Basically the power list of potential statewide candidates. You know, there are six major statewide races that will be that will happen in less than two years. The governor's race the attorney general's race, the secretary of state. Will be up. The superintendent of public schools, the treasurer and Mark Kelly will be running for a full term in the seat that he just one because he's finishing the last two years off late Senator John McCain's time in office. So those six races statewide races will happen in less than two years. So oh h predictive insights put together their top 10 power list. Of candidates. All right, so let's let's break it down. It's broken down Democrat independent Republican and all registered voters. Steve's ends Meister Any idea who is number one on the list. He's away when you combine Democrat Republican and, um, independent voters Now this just is in statewide office. It's not a specific office. It's just a statewide office. I mean, Yeah, I have the list in front of you do. Theoretically, it should be. Somebody were well aware of like a current senator. Yeah, you would think someone that would be in an office already? Mm. Larry Fitzgerald, number one The wide receiver. Yes. Well, number two is his quarterback Kurt Warner. Former quarterback. Yeah. Number three is the team owner Michael bid will So wait. The top three are all Cardinals. Yes, and the fourth one is no longer with us. Number four on the list is the late Senator John McCain. Okay, He's been dead a couple of years. He's still more popular than all these other people. What is this list? Number five. Katie Hobbs, the current secretary of state makes sense number six Cindy McCain Current ambassador to the U. K. By the way, Kimberly Ye, the current state treasurer. Kiersten Cinema number eight. Hate Diego, the mayor of Phoenix, very surprising that she made the list overall for voters. I'm surprised by that. I'm not. I mean, the city of Phoenix Mayor Grandstand went on to Congress. So yeah. Not a statewide race, though. True he didn't run for the Senate, and by the way number 10 on the list. This is with all voters combined. Mark Kelly. Now It's interesting when you flip this too independent and to Republican voters very interesting. With Republican voters. Number one is Kurt Warner, Number two is Larry Fitzgerald. They just flipped. Spots. Number three on the list. Donald Trump. Donald Trump's not coming here to run for treasurer or God, No, I don't think so. Maybe a step down for him. I think. Okay, So here's the question. If Donald Trump ran for governor of Arizona, would he win? No, he didn't. Now, I would have said a year ago. Absolutely. I just don't know He wouldn't. He couldn't even when President. That's what I'm saying He didn't win. He can't. He can't get enough Republicans to one go, but it was this close. What do you want? You need all those votes. No. Number Four on the list is Martha McSally number five. The former governor, Jan Brewer. Like I skipped over Martha McSally, who has lost twice in statewide, but I just Yeah, she's number four on the list, but Number five, the former governor who was very popular still in Republican circles..

"Have so many Republican friends who like Trump. They can't even stand. Kelly Ward. Yeah, They think she's awful. Let her job. Why is she on water? John and she never wins, Sergio said last week. Look, I'm not asking. He's not the brightest bulb either really was not others. Inside of the party who probably are taking the temperature in the room. And But asking people are probably all getting. I don't like Kelly. I don't know. Well, how did Kelly win? If everybody told me nobody liked her? I mean, if you keep losing big election after big election, and you're the head of the party in Arizona, How do you get reelected for doing a bad job every year? That's the thing she basically sandbag Martha McSally. We talked to Sergio. Remember Fl Sergio was no. Then you're like, OK, it's nice guy. Nice guy, but again. See that different than Kelli Ward? Probably not probably not. Well, he lost. So there's that Ugo Theo All Arizona Daily download number one. Arizona gets grated on Cove in all right, So let's run down the grades there. Most of them are not good. Well, sounds like my report card. 48. In death rate. 51st and hospitalization rate. 49th in positive testing rate. Which if we were going out of 100, you're like, OK, you guys were having but we're only going out of 50. Or is it 52? Are we throwing in Puerto Rico and Guam? Let me check actually, because something 51. Okay, so 51. I've got 51. So you know. Does that surprise you? No, No, it doesn't Is Arizona. One of the more dangerous spots in the world when it comes to Cove it? Yes. All right. Are we going to do anything about it? No, no, no, We're not. And we talked about this. Should we sit here now and relitigate everything that deuce he did wrong last year Now I'll be here forever. So let's not do that. Let's look ahead. All right. We're looking ahead Vaccinations. That's what we need now. We're 27th. Not awful. We're getting there and remember, we kind of did a pause check on ourselves, as did a lot of states because everybody was confused about what they would it wouldn't give and get And so I don't think that's a fair fair thing. And I think a lot of this came Really when you look at the overall because I think the last several weeks have been much better. But you know, I well have they changed the website and made it easier? Absolutely. They have all right. Was it perfect at the beginning, knows disaster. But again, nothing is going to be perfect when you roll it out, So I think we can give just a little bit of grace. Do you see in characteristic listening? They fix the website. State Farm stadium is run very well with these vaccines. We've got a new one up now. Arizona at issues the Phoenix Munich. Now we've got what 50 different fries in Maricopa County. When we get back seen, it'll go to them. So, it says in this wallet Hub survey that were 27th in the vaccination rate. I think that I think there's something there to build on. I'll give you something else. That's do it in Arizona, where vaccinating teachers they're not doing that everywhere. No, we are that's right. And we should be doing that Other states are not doing that We are so there is some good Coming out of Arizona this year. When it comes to Cove it certainly with the backs of vaccinations, certainly putting teachers up at the top, and now we're out of that horrible surgeon. Maybe it'll start getting better, right? Hey, that we start kids. It's where you finish and that's what matters. And I think we're gonna get there. It's gonna take time. And I still think as bad as that is one of the things that should be factored in. Some like that is How is our economy held up compared to a lot of other states and where we can end up better how we're gonna get to a certain place back to where we were. I think we'll get there. Faster. So not great, but not the words. All right. Look at 2020. Yeah, Arizona was a total disaster. It's 2021. We're starting to do better with the vaccines, and that's what we want. So that's the bright side of the hole. Arizona Daily Drop brought you Park. It sounds funny electrical to Time winner of the better business Barrows at Fix a woman. All right, coming up next. It is that time of the week when we're joined by the esteemed former governor of the Great State of Arizona, Jan Brewer, that gap to how you doing, governor I've had a rough week. What's going on? Why have you had a rough week? I was supposed to have a brick and now my dude broke off. And there was no way to pull it out. Saturday served David Yes. As you gotta put the implant in. I said, we don't have time. My bed. You cried and they did. And then I hurt my back. And, um Oh, and then I had surgery on my back. Governor. You're a mess. Hot mess. I am a mess. You know what it is a doctor Day to keep the mortician away. I guess Governor question about how crazy is Kelli Ward in the Republican Party that even Democrats around the country are calling out the insanity of what they did to do see, and to Flake and the McCain What has been an interesting process. I did not go to the state meeting. I did turn it on on the online and it appeared that it was a little bit bizarre the via little bit and that, you know, she got reelected. That was interesting. I thought because it was You know what? Three people running against her. We've got to get our party organized and under consult and the Republican Party has always been. The party is a big chance. So we've always had different different things in opinions, but not just Extent that it is today but being in the big tent, but having the crazy lions run the big tent is a different story. Well, we need we need Oh, we need to come together. We need some peace. We need to get ready for the new elections and hopefully she will come around and do that. I hope Good luck. You listen, I'm not a Republican or a Democrat. I'm a skeptic. I'm an independent, but your Republican party in Arizona's lost 10,000 voters. They've switched registration from the GOP to other parties. You gotta You got Kelly Ward in there who is famous for not being able to win a single election couldn't win any of her elections. She didn't help Martha McSally. She ended up kind of sabotaging Martha McSally. And we've got two Democratic U. S. Senators and you vote her back in It makes no sense. My Republican friends are like this lady is crazy. I think you're gonna have more people leave your party just because of this one single. Person, and that's too bad. Well, we better get it together. We have a lot of work ahead of us. And I hope that we can because I really believe in the philosophy off the Republican platform, and it needs to be implemented. And then again, we need to be able to have that open. Nest of including everybody in the party. So everybody has a voice that we can't be nude in April and ugly. And we've got to have people that can drive these elections and get the job done and raise money. Talking to the corner Gavina of the great State of Arizona chant Brewer. Speaking of that we're a week into the Biden presidency. And do you feel okay? I mean, we are we good. You're staring. You've been a busy boy. Some people probably believe that he's doing good things, but I think that he's He's um, issues as far as our economy and job security and gas prices. I mean, you know, I did like I get like the idea that he did continue with the band from other countries coming in if they weren't cleared with the cove in 19 testing, I think that was really good. But then again, hey, did some other things in regards it back to just open up our southern border. I get But and the Paris climate Treaty, I think was a big mistake to get back into that. I think that we probably should have thought just work something out to try to find a solution dealing with maybe China and Russia helping us along the way. Obviously, he doesn't think that's important. That's very, very unfortunate. So you know, and then he does the crazy stuff with the Keystone. Pipeline. You know, there goes the jobs. You know, there goes support, sound reason and depending on it, and the gas is gonna increase. We're in for a ride. Former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is joining this? Yeah. I mean, I hear what you're saying. I like some of the stuff solid endorsement of Biden's first week. I like some of the stuff Biden has done. I don't like other stuff. What I do like is what I'm hearing about, Cove it That's the biggest issue. It sounds like he wants to be organized. Trump was an organized, he quit after losing the election and then refusing to admit it. So I feel like Cove. It is going to go a lot better. I mean, here's the thing he's now saying, and if you can get this done, he's going to give states Like a three week period of here's what we're going to give you. Here's what you can expect. I mean, I would think Governor do see would be loving that so now I don't have to guess anymore. Now I don't have to hoard the vaccine. I know what they're going to give us. That's one of the good things I think I've seen from the Biden administration when it deals with covert governor. Well, just because he's dead doesn't make it true. No, you're right. He's got to do it. I mean, talk is cheap to wait and see. You know, I don't know why. All of a sudden we have an abundance. Hey, believed of vaccine And I hope you know he's correct. I heard through the grapevine and then the moods that you know here in Arizona, Of course, that they're gonna have the department How services is gonna go in and bring back that same from providers that are not using it to be able to use that are in our larger sites so we can get more people continue that. Wait, but I thought it was, um interna and fighter that wasn't able to produce it fast enough. Governor, Did you get your second shot? Your second dose. No, but I'm signed up. I'm going February 2nd at 7 12. Did you have any side effects outside of a sore arm? Did you feel any different? Grow a tail? No, no, baby tooth got hurt, fell out or some like that. You're back started to hurt. No, but I'm looking forward to getting my my second job. I do believe that, you know, they got their website. It was better to sign up. I must say, I know there's still problems and I was frustrated once again, but not anywhere near the way. I was first frustrated because they need to get that website up where everybody can No, but dates are available, so you don't have to keep searching and searching and going out and then having to re enter all your information again. It's like search and find and catch me if you can. They need to fix that. I've got mine, so I'll be there in early right early and happy. Former Arizona governor Jan Brewer. All right, here's the big question. Honest answer, Governor. Okay, Because we know how you feel about Cove ID. We know how you feel about how do you see did last year? I know that we're all hoping that he does better this year with the vaccines but honest, honest answer. Your Republican. Do you feel better that Biden is in charge of the vaccine and Cove it than former President Trump, who denied it. Who wanted to ignore it. Thought it was just gonna magically disappear. I mean, don't you feel better with Biden, at least at the helm of the covert vaccine? I haven't seen any proof. I mean, he could talk all he wants to, but I have not seen any through And I think President Trump doing what was it called Work, speak of getting it done and giving all these pharmaceutical companies money in order to get that completed and get it out to the public was just amazing. I think that was absolutely amazing, because we all know how long it takes to get these vaccines manufactured and created and then you take years and they get it done in that sort. Period of time was just really, really impressive. But we need to step back and wait and just see just exactly what President Biden going to accomplish and weaken. And I hope that they all tell us the truth. I hope that Foulke's out they're gonna tell us the truth. And you know we could deal with that if we got the truth, so, no, I'm gonna wait and think from Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer. Governor. We hope all your ailments calm down and that you feel better if you need a tooth cold. Just where? You know you know what? Come to us where your mask will pull the tooth. You'll be.

"Aaron Solar number one If you want to get rid of deuces, emergency order. We're off to a good start The Michelle you gente read a lead. Senate Government Committee. I know it's a lot right. They had five bills and resolutions ready to go to one immediately end the emergency order and then Thea other bills resolutions. We're all about making sure the gun the Legislature could be involved. They have to be called a special session is one of them. Another one is they have to vote to extend the emergency of whatever governor is in there for 30 days at a time. They expire. All good stuff. They all passed out of there. And a 5 to 3 party line. Vote now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee. And if it passes out of there goes to the full Senate floor where we need every senator 16 out of the 32 vote. That Republican vote Yes, and then goes to the house in the house votes and hopefully we can end this stuff and start all over and go from there. The second thing that I think you need to know. Is that a state rep is is just great. It's not really getting that much. The Hill had the story on it, but State rep here in Arizona and Kevin Pain Introduced a bill requiring a notary's signature. On any mail in ballot. That is awesome. Gonna prove you are who you are. Here you go. Here's your chance. I'm sure that'll be racist and everything else, too. And disenfranchising and blah, blah, blah again, you could always vote on Election Day. I know it's a tough thing to do to get off your butt and vote on Election Day. I just it's hard. Third thing I think you need to know. President Trump has announced he's opening his new office. It's in Florida. It's called the office of the former president, and I'll carry on the Trump agenda. Her advocacy, organizing and public activism. I love it. Plus, we'll get to that in a second. I mean, it, actually, um There will be the announcement of to the creation of two pro trump think tanks today. Uh, I'm liking it. I'm liking it a lot. Three things. I think you need to know this is not stopping. It's only growing. You know, people have put out their stuff. By the way, like you see, Remember that the Star Wars people putting it out there? It was the The original Star wars. When Obi Wan Kenobi is killed by Darth Vader. They give you kill me. I'll become more powerful than you could ever imagine. Or that that's the line, right? Something like that. You kill me. I'll be more powerful than you could ever imagine. Um, it's kind of like what people are thinking with Trump right now. As he holds all the cards. You have to be nice and make deals with Republicans with rhinos, the establishment everything else he could spill the beans and I'm waiting for him to do it. On D could get out there the more time to get out there and make sure the right people get into power. And when he says, I like this person, I guess, And here's the thing. He was hand. He was handicapped, wasn't he? Because he had to sit there and say Martha McSally was good. Oh, God. Remember when he, uh he was given a piece of paper he had, you know, Read it. John McCain's a good guy and I met Romney. Don't sell it. That's never happened. Yeah, Exactly. Maybe he was given a piece of paper. It's like it's like Getting Hannah. John McCain, the man that serve the country for a long time. It's good. Yeah, There you go. That's basically what happened. That happened like 20 was a 2018 when he was running for re election. Or 26, or whatever the hell it was, and then Mitt Romney begged them all these any all he's thinking his man on president I need as many people on my side that will release do most of what I want. That's what I need now. He doesn't need that, because unfortunately, is not president so he can get back and say This is the one that you need guys and he's got 75 80 million people strong behind him. Mitch and Kevin McCarthy and Liz Cheney. And these sellouts Dusa for and the rest of his career is over. I'll betcha they're sweating more than they realize. Better this sweating more than they ever have more than when he was in office. They get is undermined what he's doing there. They can undermine a damn thing now. You want to talk about raising money? Trump has a rally draws 20,000 people to vote for some congressmen in the middle of Ohio. You know, and you know it gets carried on certain networks and websites and everything else. People going to say, That's what we need to get back on track. Boom. Here's 100 bucks. Here's 50 bucks. Here's 200 bucks. Here's 1000. We'll get into that We'll get into that. Do you remember when Trump said, where you're going to cut off travel from China? You remember that? And, uh and they called him a xenophobe. Nancy Pelosi did. Joe Biden called him a xenophobe. Go Bite him. It's racist. What are you doing right? No. It's terrible. You're just right. You can't have this Xena phobic policy is what is what they were already Reagan entre. "And you had Martha McSally appointed for a couple of those years s. Oh, this is really more like running for the U. S house, and it is the U. S Senate and already running again now, because, like you said, he's up again in two years. And as we saw with President Trump, you gotta start getting out there early with Mark Kelly. It's going to be very interesting to see how he actually votes and what he actually says. Because even when he was running, Martha, you're right. He did use the Sim of playbook. Quite a bit where it wasn't nasty. It wasn't getting down in the mud, but I'd also argue We don't really know what he stands for. He says. He you know, isn't Republican and is Democrat. But yet you hear him talk about, you know, border security and some things like that. That definitely sound a little more Republican side of the aisle than democratic. I just want to see what does he stand for? And what is he actually going to do? Or was it just about? Hey, I'm not Martha McSally. And in a lot of ways you right? He has some of those ideals that the Republican Party for so long sort of took hold on on many interviews on Katie are including on Arizona's morning news. Kelly would come on and say, Listen, we got to do what's right and border Security is part of it. At the same time, we gotta have more protections and universal. You know, gun laws and things like that. And so, therefore, I think we're all sort of waiting at the edge of our seats. Finding out how is he going to vote? What is his two years in the U. S Senate gonna look like before he's Gonna have to start doing all of this again. So we all have to get ready for all of this again, And I think the last part is what are Republicans going to do? And who are they going to put up up there to try to unseat him? Doug Ducey? Probably not. Kelli Ward, I'm guessing who has lost two primaries Azua Republican to run for U. S Senate, but weirdest year ever equal the weirdest election year ever. I think we can all agree on that, right? I would say that in the almost 15 years of doing business on my end, this is And, like no other and I don't have anything to compare it to. Except to say that I'm never gonna forget it. Joe. Global Pandemic didn't see that one coming for 2021. The year started. No, no, I actually just said a little while ago to somebody you might start off 2021 with a glass of champagne. But 2021 the year itself might start it off with a can of beer and say immediately to 2020 Here, Hold this. You know how we always say. Never forget a specific moment in history. Election 2020: Arizona's impact
"Of election 2020 continues our race. Our state will the side the direction of the country for the White House and the Senate majority. That was Republican Senator Martha McSally on with Arizona's Morning news Friday, and this morning, we caught up with her Democratic challenger on Election Day Eve. There's Jeremy Foster joins us live with more on what Mark Kelly had to say. One of the first things we asked Mark Kelly Jamie in a race where polls have consistently showed him in the lead there now tightening, in fact, a brand new Data orbital poll of 550 likely Arizona voters out this morning show Kelly just 1% point ahead of MK Sally Now. Two weeks ago, the same polls showed him up over six points. But Kelly told us he's still confident. Think the only Poles that really matters when folks go to the polls tomorrow, and when they count the votes, and that might take might be done tomorrow might take a couple days. I feel pretty good. Something else. Kelly and other Democrats may be keeping an eye on Republicans of return nearly 45,000 more ballots in Maricopa County than Democrats so far on the early voting side and about 90,000 Mohr than those who are not registered with either party. But Kelly points out that a lot of support from Republicans, including former elected officials, I have the Republicans for you know Mark Kelly for Senate Group. He also words folks to be patient. If we don't see the final results on Election day, and you can tune in all day for special election team coverage right here on our and we'll begin it tomorrow at five. AM I tell you, this is going to be one watch because the Republicans have come from behind to now lead with the number of ballots already returned and their also expected to turn out Maur enforce the Democrats at the actual voting booth tomorrow, so this is really going to be one to watch it is and we we heard from the Steve Cortes with the Trump campaign today. He's in there feeling increasingly confident about taking Arizona. All right. Thank you so much. Kate. There's Jeremy Foster.
Changes in population of Arizona swings state more left
"This is a special edition of Balance of powers. Look at election 2020. I'm David Weston. Today We look at three critical swing states that could help decide who occupied the Oval Office next January. We start with Arizona once solidly Republican state that is now Maura, Va. Toss up. Arizona has 11 electoral votes and polls show a tight race. As for Vice President, Joe Biden hopes to become the first Democrat to win the Grand Canyon state since Bill Clinton did back in 1996. Or an overview. We spoke to Bloomberg contributor Rick Davis, who ran the 2008 presidential campaign of the late Arizona Senator John McCain. Four years ago in 2016. It was not a swing state, so it's one of those that have moved into the Swing column primarily because it changes both demographically in the state, but also ideologically demographically, I think you know, the increase in Hispanic population have moved it a little bit closer to the Democratic column. Hispanics make up almost a third of the Voting population now and on ideologically in 2016 trump one white suburban voters in Maricopa County, the largest county in the state. What really decides the outcome in states and in 2018, those same suburban voters fled the Republican Party, causing Martha McSally running for Election to the Senate to lose a Republican, so it's going to be an interesting ride there, but it's definitely a swing state this year. So if you say Maricopa County is I understand, you know better than I really determines the state. Largely. It's a really big count and a large portion of the voting populace. What has changed 16 4018 has the Democratic nature of Maricopa County's changes it more hetero genius than it was before is that they've changed their attitude towards things like immigration. Maricopa has been changing for a long time is one of those state or one of those counties. It's the city of Phoenix is in Maricopa County that has grown at an enormous rate. It's been one of the top five fastest growing counties in the United States for the last 15 years and is one of the top five of the largest counties in America. So it is a complex political beast. I would say What is starting to change is the Republican lock in the suburbs. In the past, we've been able to win the state by winning Maricopa. And if we are not able hold onto especially white women suburban voters in Maricopa County. We can't win the election for a perspective on what it takes to win statewide office in Arizona. We spoke to someone who's done it. Former Republican governor, Jan brewer. She admits the state is changing, but she hopes it hangs on to its conservative roots. There's a good chance that it is probably turning a little purple hair in Arizona, which is very distressful US Republicans, but the bottom line is is that we've had a lot of people moving in and out of California and other places coming to the great State of Arizona czar demographics. Have really changed. I think that we have to take that all into consideration were out there.
Martha McSally to debate Mark Kelly with Supreme Court future on line
"Martha McSally, Democratic challenger Mark Kelly Duke it out this evening, and they're only scheduled debate before the November election. A New York Times Sienna College poll published yesterday. It's Kelly ahead by nine points. But an ABC News Washington Post poll last week had the two in a virtual tie. The University
Arizona Senators mcSally, Sinema don't expect coronavirus relief before November election
"Arizona's congressional leaders participated in a luncheon today hosted by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce. There, they talked about the possibility of another Covad relief Bill Gabriel Gamino is live in the new center with Mohr. It's looking good. It's very unlikely that we have a relief package before the election. Arizona's Democratic Senator Kirsten Cinemas, says a bill is unlikely to pass both chambers due to the inability of congressional leaders and the White House to work together on the other side of the aisle. However, Arizona's Republican senator Martha McSally says, Unfortunately, there's a lot of politics being played in all this and where we were able to come together. Previously in a unanimous way, it seems like there's some people here that would prefer to do nothing. They also talked about tourism, the economy and the need to pass a continuing resolution to prevent a government shut down on October 1st
Graham signals support for confirming a Supreme Court nominee this year

S Supreme Court that was left by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Boxes. Chad program has more Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is adamant the Senate will vote soon. But in 2016 McConnell blocked the Senate from even granting a hearing to Merrick Garland. President Obama's pitch for the high court, Connell said It was an election year. However, in 2018, current Judiciary Committee chairman Lindsey Graham and the committee's former head Chuck Grassley, change there stands but that was then. Now, Graham says, full speed ahead. Other Republicans facing competitive races this fall are backing McConnell's power play. Like Arizona's Martha McSally. McConnell must juggle two things confirm the nominee. And simultaneously protect
Is Mitch McConnell Rigging The Game?
"Other news, there's the other branch of Congress or the other house. Of Congress. The Senate and everyone knows their Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell is unshakable and ruthless, and he's going to maximize his power however cam, but it is also the case the death of Justice Ruth Bader GINSBURG has taken us to uncharted territory. There are very real political pressures that are going to affect how the next several months play out. Mitch McConnell does not care about being charged with the Crisi but the raw politics of this moment themselves are not uncomplicated. As it was with the affordable care act remember Mitch McConnell had a lot of bravado about that and he failed famously and humiliatingly to replace the law. Here's mayor discuss across pressures. He faces longtime McConnell Allah Gist Jane Mayer Chief of Washington correspondent New Yorker wrote an incredibly insightful profile McConnell back in April this weekend row quote from Mitch McConnell keeping a Senate. Majority matters more than the Supreme Court. Jamie. It's great to have. Let's start with that because it seems to me there's two imperatives here. Everyone says about McConnell the two things he cares about is keeping the Senate majority and being Senate majority leader. Judges the Federal Bench, and there is a way to interpret the politics of the moment that there's a little bit attention between those two imperatives. How do you see it? Well, I mean there is I mean he wants to get obvious wants to hold the majority wants to stay being majority leader. And, this is going to be the crowning moment of his career to have yet one more justice on Supreme Court here we can get him through and he's promised trump of course that he's going to have a vote on this, and so how do you do this the problem? The problem for McConnell is it's unclear if he can keep the majority in the Senate. It's a dicey election year for him. There are a number of racist. They're very close and he doesn't want to do anything that's going to hurt the endangered members of his caucus. So he's got to try to juggle the schedule in some way that doesn't put those members on the spot in a way that will hurt them. So he's the first thing he's going to do an, and surely his done is canvas. Those members find out exactly how they feel about how this this process would affect their races. And then, and then way that in terms of whether it be better have a vote before or after the election. So. It's it's. It's. It's it's tricky but he is nothing if not clever about things like this this is he he? Very early on in his career, he ran for office from a district where he hadn't been resident in residence long enough and he vowed after that, he would never again ignore the rules, and since then he's become kind of a master of the rules, the more arcane the better. And he just he loves talking to the parliamentarian in the Senate and figuring out sort of the the most devious ways to get what he wants. The most sort of obvious pressure here. Just talking about this and I think it's pretty interesting. There's a bunch of folks who are up. In who are imperilled where it's not clear That going ahead with this would be helpful them. We have a bunch of pulling out today showing majority of people oppose it. Those numbers will probably change as they converge towards the polarization and everything else. But like Cory Gardner is down in all the polls and Colorado, he's in a state that Democrats have carried. Now a bunch and plan to carry again Martha. mcsally sally is down a to mark Kelly. You know they're on the sort of aggressor side here in terms of public opinion. It does seem like they've kind of don't care. It doesn't seem like there's a jump together mentality here in terms of getting them to come out whether it was him or not a publicly for those. Well I think. He's GonNa. Be Looking at McConnell will look at each of these races and I think you can almost imagine that he's written off. Gardner in. Colorado, and makes out the in Arizona. So he's not going to change his plan just for them unless he thinks it's going to save them and you'd probably thinks it won't save them and he's already given collins kind of buy in Maine. So it gets you down to the racist that are really going to matter in this are probably it's it's probably Tillis in North Carolina, Joni Ernst in Iowa, and Danes in in Montana, and if McConnell feels that those three or not endangered by going head, he may just gun it. You know and and try try to get I think though that in addition to just thinking about each of these races and how it affects each of the races, there's something else. He's probably got to think about, which is the overall look of this thing if if it appears to the American public that he is one set of rules for Democrats and there's another set of rules he's got for Republicans here, one Senate rules for America and another set of rules for whoever trump nominates at this point, it looks like he's reading the game it looks corrupt. It looks like a naked power, grab an and it's ugly and that could actually create a backlash I think that both he and trump have to think about. It it might really bother a lot of people in this country to think that that it's it's just too corrupt game in Washington. Yeah, I. think that's a correct reading of both where the polls are and the political risks they run and I think it's notable that McConnell has committed to vote but not win and I thought. This was also notable. He wrote this dear colleague later re basically says I don't say anything don't lock yourself into position. Let it give it give us time to work over the coming days. We're GONNA come under tremendous pressure from the press to announce how he will handle the coming nomination for those who are unsure how to answer for those inclined to oppose giving nominee a vote I urge you all to keep your powder dry Dombrowski and collins. Have not heeded that but Mitt Romney said declined today saying anything I know Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania I fully expect will support moving forward. But that that to me, it was interesting because the timing here and the sort of needle to thread is not nothing I think we'll try to do it and the odds are in their favor they will. But because of exactly what you and unseeded from the political standpoint, it's not clear that this is help for them politically in the short term. I think it may not be I. Mean I think also it's going to energize the base on both sides here for and the thing is that when it comes to the energizing the base, the base that needs more energizing really is probably on the Democratic side and you've already seen it happen I, mean look at the amount of money that act Lou raise you know practically overnight a hundred, million dollars two, hundred and sixty. Now it's one hundred and sixty million dollars. Shipping shocking about money. Shocking money an and I think the other thing that it might do is from was doing some reporting two days. I think it may really energize kids younger voters because. You know they were kind of holding their nose, a lot of them about Joe Biden it wasn't an exciting. It didn't seem you now like there was that much reason to do it. Now there's a reason that a lot of young people are GONNA see they're gonNA look they're gonNa see Roe v Wade is in the balance they're going to see a four Bul healthcare act and possibly anything to do with insurance for preexisting conditions and they're looking at the future this is going to. Their. Lives for the this is a this is a decision that has tremendous implications for everybody in the country and it's GonNa be clear and so I, you know it may turn you know help turn out. The Democrats who were young. Six three Roberts court climate. Regulation jurisprudence. A. Favorable to the kinds of solutions. That are necessary. Do you think? Ultimately McConnell himself is up and I don't think he's. He's personally a lot of trouble against say, McGrath at least the pulling now but there are also just a bunch of seats that weren't supposed to be in play that really do seem like they are. There's A Texas poll that has cornyn barely up. There's a Mississippi poll out today that has. Chrissy Hyde Smith a just a few points on Mike espey. There's the Iwa Joni Ernst race I mean it's wild how wide the sort of battlefield has gotten for him to try to hold this thing together. It's it's really volatile and and and the thing is it. What it does is it puts the Republicans on the spot about they've been doing kind of a split that's broader and broader that gotta keep the trump face and and but that's not enough for in many places to get reelected, and so they've got to do is add in. The moderates the you know suburban women particularly and got a candidate here who for a nominee for the supreme court that is truly the choice of the evangelical part of the trump ace it by very much alienate moderate women in the suburbs and in other places especially over things like abortion where sixty two percent of the people in this country saver. Abortion. As keeping it legal and don't WanNa go backwards. So it's it's. It's I think it's a it's it's a it's a it's a risky thing for some ways. You people think it's all into such a gift. Not, necessarily think that's right. Read on the situation Jane Mayer thanks as always great reporting and inside appreciate it. Great to be with you.
Mark Kelly leads Martha McSally by 10 points in new poll on pivotal US Senate race
"Kelly holds a 10 point lead over Republican Martha McSally in Arizona's US Senate race. And that's double the lead from last month's wage. Predictive insights poll of 600 likely voters Add tracker estimates both campaigns will spend $6.5 million this week on broadcast ads. While this number may appear daunting for the next alley camp, looking at broadcast spending totals in the Senate race shows, both sides still believe this is a competitive race. Pro make. Sally groups are spending millions of dollars trying to keep the former fighter pilot in office. Jacob Jost, with O H. Predictive insights found 15% of Republican surveyed plan to vote for Kelly. Biden Leads Trump, 49%-44%, Among Likely Wisconsin Voters in Latest Marquette Poll
"Some new polling shows that things are actually tightening. Now, one poll, there was a national poll, but we don't talk about national polls that had trump down ten points national, completely irrelevant, not applicable at all national polls. Do not matter. Show me state polls, show me trends now Monmouth, which has donald trump down ten points. Nationally had the same in August of two, thousand sixteen. However. There's a Marquette University poll in Wisconsin that shows Biden up five points now, that might seem like bad news. But as we examined some of the new emerging polls on a statewide basis, which is more important. Especially in battleground states, we have a totally different picture. Now, remember you could lose California by eighty points by ninety points, lose the popular vote and still win in a landslide with the electoral college. Also something to consider at these polls polls that conduct something called live collar with cell phones, they tend to skew Democrat why this is what we call the shy trump voter. I add three to four to all these polls. OAS? especially in a presidential, never remember conservatives are much more likely to hide their true political opinions from public view. The presumption is that this includes from pollster if it's live on a phone call and this bears out in the methodologies. So a new poll in Arizona Has Martha mcsally, the incumbent Republican senator who was appointed by Governor, Doug Ducey. She is down five points where she was down nine points and a similar poll previously. Speed look at. Oh, predictive trendline since December, it follows what we'd basically know to be true that trump was ahead at the end of last year and pre pandemic. Then things got really bad. We know that no one is denying it, but the race is tightening in the president's favor. Republican plus two in December to a low, of Democrat, plus nine and plus in May, and now it's improved for trump to Democrat plus for for now. And, now, here's a new promising poll that shows trump is beating biden conducted by Rasmussen pulse opinion in the State of North Carolina. The poll of Seven, hundred, fifty likely voters shows the president beating Biden by a single point when leaners are included. So we can cherry pick polls and there some polls that show trump down in some of these states. But the enthusiasm index is definitely in the president's direction. I think there. There, are some major issues here that are missing from the conversation. If the president can continue to show significant gains when it comes to the Chinese Corona, virus get college football back on the airwaves I think this is how his election lose I? Think he's going to have massive gains and I think the more the president is ahead of the curve on the issue of the economy and law and order the better.
