You're gonna have enough, You know, See what it would take away. Barclay says you should be in front of line He had Charles does. Yeah. Because you report they pay a lot of taxes about that. You want to talk about classes? Mammary. I don't get that because I paid a lot of chances. I deserve a vaccine. No. I don't get that that how words shot? Remember Kenny Smith went off. We should've. It's wacky. I love Charles. But I mean what Because they pay more tax when, after Who's the Houston got? It just went after James Harden Great read last week. There's a good one liked what he had to say about that and checked it it and it's time to deliver. It is only shack and do it right, he said. I used to think the same way hardened did that It's everybody else's fault. Right? So one day my dad slowed me down and said, Hey, what about you that jam exactly. That's the man in the mirror. But little Michael Jackson every once in a while, a man in the mirror. I'm looking at the man. That's right, 1%. That's what you gotta just sometimes the cultures who said that looking the man emerges in America, America, America America. How is Valpo yesterday? Body drinking diet. I enjoyed it. The game wasn't great. I spent some time at the Barnes and Noble and Falco. Yeah, about a couple books. I think it might be the only Barnes and Noble still opening the United States of America Troops that apartment over on Monday Got bookstores rock closing down, ever know that all the borders shut borders Did Barnes and Noble are still open? I bought I breathe the book. It's like my Bible. The secret? Yes, I needed a new county. Mine was a bit dog. You're buying this on the same book, a new one of them because it's falling apart the other one, and then they have a new one out The secret part two that's called the greatest secret rails story about the White Sox. That's so marketing campaign, though they just get a guy just keep selling books. Now. Here's the updated secret. You're real ready. I bought a new copy of those two yesterday and I went to the arena early just hung out. There was no one there. No fan. Could you buy the plan if you visit they so it's still at the bookstore? Yes, it's still there, huh? And then there's those just and then the new book. The new version of the plan is being re released this spring. I'm turning in Maine script in next week really Plan. The plan collapses is that wasn't pretty much It's a 5000 word. What happened after 16? Yeah, I think that's cool. Yeah. So you gotta update and then plan to the downtrodden cubs. What's Brian got the Christmas last night went on Red line radios that red line and said that The cops had a chance to get Bryce Harper. He said Bryce told them when they were having dinner. Chicago is at the top of my list. Bryce really loves Chicago, and I'm kind of bummed out. We missed out on that opportunity meant the White Sox price was talking about the Chicago White Sox. No, Chicago is Number one in the South. So, baby Yeah, that's the deal. Yes, is the deal. So now this guy like cats. Big idea is obviously with us working during the daytime. We could just go to a Cubs game during the daytime in the Sox game at night. Now that's a lot of baseball. I gotta be honest with you. What a fun, dammit! I say, Do it every day, he once a summer, That's all you need. Let's remember the man day we had not doing well. When we played, we played golf with the old Mac. That's a three pack of activity for man. That's a fun day. That was a great day. So you can only do that every once in a while. That's all of it that that's so That's the one that's that's like, one summer. You can go ahead away with that. Especially if you're married. "Not go about your business of making sure you've got the best team you can put on the field to? As Mellish said, maybe be the favorite in the American League by adding Trevor Bauer. Why wouldn't you investment and so they should be in on it and on the North side? No spending. What, So I've got the complete opposite happening over there, And there's no excuse for them. They really liked the crime. And if you put Christ for more than Jerry eight point, whoever thought that would happen if you put yourself in a financial bind, because some of the business dealings that you made with the expansion of the ballpark anything around there Nobody thought the pandemic was coming. It came. You better have the financial flexibility and or the bartering power to be able to go ahead and float your notes. Until you get fans back in the stands. That's the way it works. That's we have against the Marquis Network. It's a hardy. Yeah, that's a good point. Do you have the bargaining power to go out there and still take on more debt? I guess right? And that's what you should be doing. I'm sorry. Go ahead. Are the Cubs the first team right now that can already name their opening day starter. I mean, Gerry Cole's the opening day starter in the neck. You understand? He's the Cubs. Do they have any other started? Probably just Kyle Hendricks. I think 3123323776 should the White Sox at this point, I mean, be all in. I mean, he's that's kind of like that. That's it. Springer signed. This is the last like truly monumental name That's out there, right. The Bill Motel. Real moved real mood, So that's a good point that they're not going to get real motel. Obviously, they've got some money tied up in that spot anyway. The real motive is not realistic for the White Sox. But that's true, Miller. But a power is he attainable? And should the White Sox be saying this completes our off season 3123323776..

"Comcast subscribers to carry the Marquis Network? Is it a $3 in 85? Cents Be $5 or C $6.20. What's the nick for the privilege of having the Cubs on your TV now? Take a guess it that day. What a marquee subscribers. Comcast subscribers paying for the Marquis Network 3, 85 5 or 6 20 a month. I would say 3 85 correct answer is $6.20. Really? I was gonna guess. Five because that was the number we kept hearing. But some of you are seeing 6 20 on your bill. How about this? The pandemic cost the Cubs. That was reading thing about sports in the year 2020. And one of the numbers that jumped out at me was the amount of revenue that all of the teams are losing. For obvious reasons. The Blackhawks were probably the team that financially made out the best. The team that probably lost the most money was the Chicago Cubs. They say they lost a $14 million last year. Be $40 Million, or C $140 million. How much money did the Cubs say they lost last year? Because of the pandemic? I've seen this figure. I want to say it's the higher it is. It is 1 40. Won't want, so that's tough. That's tough. So anyway, the mega Monday Morning Madness quiz from Our Friends of mega pros will come your way in the 11 o'clock hour, and you've already got A couple of answers may be in your back pocket, and I said that some things have not changed in the new Year. For instance, here we are now worried about kids going back to school. The teachers were supposed to go today and not only or some Chicago Public Union teachers anxious about going back and saying they won't But 33 aldermen have stepped up to say we are concerned about the teacher's going back to school has Chicago public school system done enough. And then in a week or so, the great school in middle schoolers will be asked to go back and remember, the position of the district is that if one kid shows up or they all show up, the teachers are supposed to be there. We will be teaching in class. This year. Now that we've turned the corner, not for the high schoolers yet. But for the youngsters, they're saying that they should be ready to go back to school, and we will be there for them if they so want that. Now, Steve. Actually, there was a press conference scheduled for this morning Has the position by the CPS changed with CTU changed since I saw that earlier today. No, it has not. As matter of fact, there's some teachers now talking about not returning to school, even though they are supposed to. In some sort of work actions, so we'll be watching that closely. As we move through the day. They're still very, very concerned about the high number of cases in the pandemic raging on in this plan to get everybody back in the classroom. Got a lot of good people in the news room. We heard from a lot of them over the holiday. Steve was you You've been gone since. Was it before Christmas? Yeah. Christmas the day before Christmas Eve was my one on vacation. And one other note just as we all catch up here, and I don't want to dwell on this anymore than you do, my friend, But I know that Your buddy Your companion. Your dog passed away. Christmasy. Was it Christmas Day? Christmas day? Oh, my God. That's just heartbreaking and all of us saw your I don't know if it was You didn't tweet about that, did you? Yeah, I did, because you know he was the star of Edward Grover Moreau. Edward Murrow was the name of our news man, Karl Rove. But he was the star of my Twitter feed. Ah, lot of lot of days, pictures and videos, so I thought I'd tell everybody about what happened. And that must have been just impossible for you. It was a gut punch. It was just completely unexpected. I had no idea He was sick. And you know with dogs. They he had a form of cancer called him a man geo sarcoma. Which, if anybody is a golden retriever, a Labrador retriever, they have had this happen. They know very well, but it's a cancer that goes undetected until Very last moment it shows itself in usually becomes fatal within hours of tumor rupturing, and that's what happened with Moreau. I think that's what happened to Fred are first on America's largest wiener dog. Fred was fine. One day. The next day. We took him to the doctor. They said he has cancer. He probably won't survive and they put him down. I mean, 24 within 24 hours. We went from a healthy dog to know dogs. Yeah, Mine was even less than that. Like it was about an hour and a half My God collapsing at home. And then you know, having the decision to be made at the bet. Yeah, well, did they tell you Because here's what happened us. I'm curious what happened to you? They said, Listen, we're vets were surgeons. We? This is our life's work. If you want us to work on this dog, we will. But we we concluded right then and there that chances were not good, and the life thereafter might not be good. You had to make that in an even more compact time because he was he was already having trouble breathing, and it was sort of in heart failure already, and the vet said that even with the best care Wouldn't have gained any more than a month or more and likely he wouldn't have survived the night Had he gone home, saying, Yeah, that was the end of it. Well, you sound great, my friend and I know it's not easy to always open up a microphone. And I thought once in a while that information might come up, so I thought we would address it today. Appreciate there was some email traded here work and a lot of us knew, But I don't think we talked about it to share that with our listeners. So my best to you, my friend. Thank you from us. You have a bounce back dog in mine because I'm on rebound. Dog number three, Just so you know, I'm sure that will happen. But you know, I spent the last week taking care of some things you know, putting toys away and giving left over dog food away and that sort of thing, So I It's still little too raw right now, but Won't close that door in the future. Big news over the weekend was also that the president was caught and I'm not sure that he was caught. There were so many people on that call. I think Bob surrounding his wife, Marianne, were on the phone call. There's a lot of people on this phone call between the president and the Georgia secretary of state's office, so I wasn't shocked that it was released. In fact, I thought maybe the plan was to record it in release it, But no, I guess nobody was supposed to release it like yeah, that's not gonna happen. So about the time they hung up the phones. Everybody was listened to. And now it was able to listen to one hour of the president cajoling the secretary of state of Georgia and his attorneys to do whatever they can to re examine the vote ballots, the vote totals and then possibly give the election to him. At one point..

"And my baseball broadcasting career took a different turn. And it was an amazing turn. It was in the television. I was often asked if the Cubs job was my dream job. I said no, it was well beyond my dreams. And that is true. And we'll be true until the day I die. Um, I've bank 16 amazing seasons with them. And at my age, and I think anyone out there who is around 50 or so can understand this. You think about your legacy? You think about things that you'd like to do before you retire or before the end of your life. And this was something that I have been thinking about for a long time. So, uh, you know, I know a lot of people out there might wonder why I would make a move like this. And a Zay said what we can we can go through some of the process. I just want to say a couple of things and I don't want to make this An Oscar speech. But I want to thank the Chairman Jerry Ryan store on Brooks Boyer in particular for immediately embracing this idea. Ana, especially. You don't typically, when you when you take a job like this, you think the people who are bringing you in and that is paramount. But because of the unique nature of this move From one big league team to another across town. I want to give a very special Thanks T o hugely important people in my life. Personally and professionally. On goes guys, Air Crane, Kenney and Mike McCarthy. What made this decision more difficult? Was my relationship with those two guys. And the start of the Marquis Network in particular was so exciting through a pandemic to try to start a TV network. You have no idea The behind the scenes challenges that were overcome to get Cubs baseball on the air this year. The timing of this was simply there was an opportunity available. That I had long thought about and if you had followed my career it all guys there were hints along the way. I did a daily pregame interview. I used to do it with the pitching coach when it was Chris Bosio and then Jim Hickey. Last couple of years. I've interviewed various baseball people on working with Zach's A demon, and I did the fifth inning of play by play in the postseason. And I was on the field after the Cubs won the world Syriza's in 2016 interviewing all the players, So if there's anybody out there who had no idea that that radio was embedded in my soul Just consider that those were things that meant a lot to me whether it meant nothing to anybody else. So that's why this is happening. And I just The outpouring of support is amazing. I feel like I've attended my own funeral over the last 24 hours. I understand some people are going to be upset, Andre. I also understand that I don't take that lightly. But Let's make it very clear. If there's any anger or frustration on Cubs fans, parts it should be directed solely at me because I'm the one who spearheaded this this crazy idea in the first place. Well, then, um, when I first heard about this Turn the campus said. Do you understand the history of what's happening here? You think about Harry Carey and Jack Brickhouse and Steve Stone and Bob Elson. Those broadcasters. Both did the Cubs and the White Sox. And now you're part of that history. Does that resonate with you at all? You know, J. It does resonate. But it has nothing to do with this decision. Um, you know, I I love the fact that it's a two team town that always intrigued me. And you've got a charter member of the National League which you know, every year when we started, I would say. It's the 134th National League season of Chicago Cubs baseball, and I'll do that, with the White Sox going back to the early days of the American League, the rich history here. Is unmatched and to be able to experience. Uh, those things on both sides of town was incredibly alluring. But it wasn't as if I thought. Well, I've got to do the reverse, Harry or I have to make sure I match. You know what Jack Brickhouse did or, you know, I know. Stoney has has worked and played for both teams. Deejay played for both teams. S o. So, yeah, it's a really fascinating connection. And And let me also say that this was a frictionless week. The Amount of cooperation between Crane On Mr Ryan Stores and Brooks Boyer and Mike McCarthy and Tom Ricketts. It really was something to behold. There was no animosity. This was all done for the right reasons. The Cubs did everything they could to keep me But at the end of the day my my gut said that this is something I want to try and do and Here we go. Len KASPER with us. He is the brand new play by play voice here on ESPN 1000 for the Chicago White Sox there in the release that the White Sox sent to us It says. In addition to his radio duties, Castrol Service, a member of the television announcing team for approximately 20 to 25 games on NBC Sports Chicago depending upon schedules during the season, and Casper and television play by play Man, Jason Benetti. Playing to collaborate in creating several multimedia projects throughout the year connecting White Sox baseball with fans in new ways, Can you shed more light on what that means? Because obviously, we're huge fans of you. Also huge fans of Benetti. That guy's awesome I just want to ride his coattails. I gotta be honest, right? I talked to Jason last night, and he dug up an email from like 2010 that he had sent me regarding his work when he was doing the Triple Eight games. And I was just absolutely blown away at His insight, his wit,.

"Is ESPN 1000. Honey, I'm cap Jed Hoyer on the show tomorrow morning, and we'll ask him some tough questions about how you balance trying to stay competitive. Does the Marquis Network? What Don't you like about the Marquis Network? Marquis Network. Play any role in trying to keep a couple of charismatic must watch players or can you truly do whatever it is you need to do If you say I'm tearing this apart. Or I'm doing this or that. Does the need to get Eyeballs to the Marquis Network. Play a role at all. So we'll get into that with him tomorrow. Looking forward, Having just saying that just to stick it to me. That's fine. Me. MacPhail. That's all you're doing. You're sticking it to us. Why? Because I You know, I've been saying that you gotta have Someone to watch the Marquis network. Right? You're ready, MacPhail. So I was like, Well, I mean, I still think you have to have an attraction out there. You have your own network. You just can't put anything. Put circus animals on the fields. Hey, look at that. There's the lion. I just don't want to. I don't think people tune in to see Brian Schlitter. That's all I'm saying. You want to have an attraction out there. You want to have something to see. You can't just take the whole team down after the championship run and go and take it down to the studs Can't do that. Can't do that as a cubs fan. I'm cool with it. If I see a plan like I did the first time not. It's not the studs. No, You don't want to go back there. You'd be so aggravated after the first couple years. You say that now because it Zinos falling and Thanksgiving is around the corner, and you know you've been drinking. I'm telling you right now, in a couple years when you started CD losses pile up like corn would you gotta be like, come in one day. I'm tired of this. Have a plan to take that I've seen guys get gonna be so triggered. I think you're better than that Watch. I'll just be sitting here one day, It's gonna be nice and quiet knobs. Good morning. I'm tired of this. 90 losses again back that gets a free agent in here. I'm tired of this. I call you tired of this now. Oh, I was cooler than Thanksgiving 2020. I was so good. I knew they had a plan. Yeah, I know what you're saying that now because you're in a great mood. Thanksgiving's right. That right? The court of the holidays. Yeah. You go that well, we'll be sitting here in 2022 like in a random July after another loss where the Coast beat themselves and a bunch of kids out there. But you guys have never really part of the future. I never heard of him. I was patient, but I can't take it anymore. Get to freaking free Agent here. We got 40,000 in there. Now. You've got money. You got the money back. Take that. Take that, like, Oh, I thought she said in 2020. Watch. Wow, That's exactly how it's gonna go. All right, let's go back to the football conversation. I can't take this 90 losses again is just another game Bears Packers Sunday that how important is it to you? Kevin's in Addison Park, a calf How are you guys? What's up, man? Great. I don't want the top of those data games. Take that going back here. You're Mitch Point with Billy with the laser going has rollouts and all that. How do you really expect them to even do that with Against the Packers team that a once mixed to throw the ball anyways, because I said it and be when we can't even run the ball like the Rams, or where they do their motion dailies have a play action. Attackers was just going to sit and wait for Mitch to roll out because that's pretty much all we can do. Look, you can make plays with your legs that Nick Foles can't make. I'm not telling you that Patrick Mahomes is going to be under center for us on Sunday night. I just want to see something different. I I never expected Nick Foles to be very good. Never and the people in town who kept telling everyone I appreciate your call. Oh, yeah, He's much more accurate. He's in command of the yacht. He sucks, Be honest. And I'm not here telling you, Mr Biscuit is great. Lord knows I got that Take way wrong. I'm willing to wear that. Nick Foles blows. He sucks. He's a backup quarterback. That's it. And those of you that want to die on that hill it false neck balls. You're out of your f in mind. I think people see that now they didn't see him before. You know, in Jacksonville, another stops. I think people see that Now they see how he's really hot. You know, when he comes off the bench, we saw that in the Atlanta game. That's kind of who he is, though He's probably one of the best backup that you'll have in the league right now, Cap Only thing is, is that with this, we could always look at the offensive line, the coaching and everything else. But Nick can't get out of his own way. Sometimes he's limited as far as trying to raw the pocket as we've seen. He's had a hard time with that, so I think people know you've got to understand people felt Like there was some optimism because you have something that was not Mr Risky back there. They had a biscuit fatigue or can I get it? Yeah, I talk. But now you see why Nik has been a globetrotter across this country and not be able stick with one team for a long time. Correct every time they handed in the keys, ST Louis Philly Jackson? Yeah, Hard pass. Moving out. He had a Super Bowl championship. But there's a reason why that they went with winds versus going with fools. Great. 3123323776. We will.

"And then you are obviously have to You know, do your thing in the playoffs because that's where managing really comes up. So look, I think they're going to talk to him. I think, Rick Cons going toe, you know, make the decision and and say no, I don't think we're gonna go with Ah, guy that's more relevant. I mean, again. It goes against everything. Rick concept in that pressure. Down to the fact that Rick Cons said in 10 years I might be obsolete as a GM or something that something to that effect because the game will be in a different place. He said that about himself. What must he think about a manager that hasn't managed in 10 years. Even a smart is Tony LaRussa is so if they hired him, it really goes against everything, Hans said in this post post. Let's just not forget that in like three weeks We're going to elect somebody, and they're both in their upper seventies. That's a way tougher job then managing a freakin baseball team for and the guys coming in. Hall of Famer. Yeah, that That's why I'm not gonna be that need your guy That's going to write. This is they're going to lose this. There's a Rolls Royce of a team and Tony the worst is a smart guy. They got the worst. The Cubs had that team. It could work. But why risk it? Why risk that disconnect with players, possibly compared to an Alex Cora or in a J. Hinch or someone else? That's been there done that recently with the millennial player of today. Member Joel Madden talking about that, not the LaRussa can't there's just seems to be better candidates out there. All right, Jesse, tell us about your new book. Me and Rossi the Marquis years about that. What do you know What you like about the Marquis Network? You know, like Martine network was we say in a couple years to page book, So let me give you my prediction. I like the raise in March. I'm changing it completely. Follow me on this 1 63 times in baseball history, A team has made the World Series three in four years. Okay, so this will be the 64th time. Three and four years on Ly twice has that team not won a World Series. It just simply is the Dodgers turning. Here's Here's another one, The last four teams down 31 in the championship. Siri's and then came back to win that Siri's went on to win the World Series. There's that momentum lift that you get Ray's hung on. They beat the Astros. I love the race, but the Dodgers are gonna win this thing. Yes, you have a great day. Okay, guys, you to enjoy. There you go. That's our guy Jesse Rogers shot or no shot. We love this. Next thing.

But it pays off to be really excited about the approach from his hidden here tonight, backflip, right? That's higher than the ball. Oh, that one hits contraire. It's after the home run and the bat flip. Earlier, Cubs dugout is yelling at Cordero's Angelinos stay in a dugout, everybody, the umpire's gonna come together and they'll talk it over. Cordero. Here's your Omer Sanchez, making his major league debut and treacherous hits. One deep to right there she goes, 10 Nothing. He's homered twice tonight, wisely. "Marquis Network. Let's say good morning there. Ryan Dempster. How you doing, Ryan? I'm doing Good. Good morning, when you first started out in your major league career and was the first team the Marlins It. Wass 19 more draft by Texas. But then my first big league team wins the Florida Marlins 1998. Did you ever think you'd end up in Chicago being Canadian? You weren't far away. But did you ever visit Did you know much about the city? Tell them? No, I never had visited. I've never really been on a plane much until I started playing baseball. So, um When I first came to Chicago in 1998 and started against the Cubs, Uh, I thought, man I gotta play here think this town is awesome on multiple that level till it's worked out Well, Yeah, the fans here. Sort of. Ah, latch on to people like you who are good with fans and good on the field to weigh sort of make people stay here once they once they come through 10, you know what I mean? Yeah, well, I think you know the, um I always tried to give my best effort even if it wasn't enough. That was never for a lack of effort. I think fans appreciate that, and I appreciate people show up in page ticket money for a ticket every day of the ball park and and try and go out there and win the game and, you know, stop for an autograph while I was playing and do those things, and I developed a lot of relationships with People in the city and, uh, they've been great to me and my family. I know you are doing improv comedy work, and you grew up idolizing Johnny Carson was being a baseball player. Secondary. Teo wanted to be in the entertainment world for you. You know, I was a kid. I think baseball was always number one. Um, you know, I mean, four years old playing games. I want to be a major league baseball player and it never stopped. You know, all the way through elementary school, then high school. That's what I want to do. But as I was playing, I always was trying to find ways to entertain my my friends. My classmate, my teammates. Of the, you know, Probably the, um Dispute of a lot of teachers and coaches probably wanted me to focus a little bit on more of my task at hand. But I always appreciate a good laugh and and really can do for you and went when you're on stage. And I know you've been doing some of your comedy around town from time to time. Which is worse, which is more traumatic bombing in front of an audience or giving up the winning run when you come in and relief By giving up the winning around when you come in, I thought, way worse, but but the intensity before going up on stage and doing that. Ah, a little bit harder, just from the fact that I'm really prepared in baseball. I've done it for a long time. It felt easier Wouldn't when I first started doing comedy I'm like, Whoa, this is this is intense. Or why am I sweating so much? And this much? My last start? It's you know, it's a It's a really science, isn't it? And people like Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno? They kind of wrote the book, didn't they? Yeah. Well, like I remember doing a sentence in New York at Gotham Comedy Club, you know, in the winner before this all hit, um, doing doing eight minutes feeling like I did a pretty good job. You know, the crowd laugh. They were entertained. I felt like there's parts like me better. I walk off and then Jim Gaffigan goes up and does 25 impromptu minutes and makes it looks like a piece of cake. It was, uh you know, I could see. I understand. You know, on that that comes with hours and hours of Ah, you know, work that they put in over years and years and years. That makes him so good. And they're incredible what they do. Well, at least, you know, even if you bomb you're not going to need rotator cuff surgery when you come off the stage, you know Timmy's no. Yeah, exactly need hurry up and move my car road where That's it? Hey, Ryan. You like this idea? This Cubs Sox Syriza and the season with still so much at stake for both these teams almost kind of like an extra playoff round. Yeah, I think it would sum up 2020 just like exactly like it's been just completely odd, Weird, and you know, it has suck in a lot of things for a lot of people, but like the fact that because in the White Sox play each other in the World Series in Arlington with no fans, um It's just so bizarre, so weird, but we'll see they both got the team's being to be able to go there. They're both gonna have a shot. So why not? Right now. I enjoy watching off the mound Your show on Marquis and interview people. I want to know who was the best guest and the worst guest. Um The best. Yes. Wow. I mean, you know, it's hard not to enjoy my time with Eddie, you know, with any better and having a couple episodes with him was really, really great. I really love sitting and talking to Ken Griffey Jr. Just for the fact that he is pretty quiet, reserved guy, and he shared a lot of really great stories about baseball on him and his bad being apparent itself. Um, you know, I thought I thought it was pretty awesome. Worst worst guess. Sean Casey. I never shuts up, just talks and talks and I, you know, I never I never get an opportunity to get a word, and I can't have a worse. Just they're They're all great. I like you like the story about Sean Casey and I don't know any fans and watched it. You should listen to it. And it has a little bit of me in here because I used to go there all the time, but in 2000 or we lost the red three or four and they eliminated us from the playoffs and eventually got limited by the Braves. But it's a big story, but Red's got very good. They beat us. Three or four. Think it was, they stopped the bus in front of Guthrie's tavern. And Casey ruin into Guthrie's tavern. Hey, company. That's right. You gotta wait till next year and some other things thrown in there. And all of a sudden, these Cubs fans realized Sean Casey, then he's like, Oh, boy, I got a high tail it out of your out of the bar jumps out of the bus and the bus goes down Addison to the airport. I'm just like only Shawn. We do something like that has incredible. I would think right now. Cincinnati is a team that nobody wants to play we would have to agree with. I think the Cubs right now would be playing the Marlins in the wild card round. Yeah, I agree. There's listen. There's always teams during a regular normal season that come September. They get hot and then they are very, very dangerous in the playoffs and You want to be playing good baseball. Obviously you want to be playing your best baseball at that time, and we've seen it a lot. We sent a lot over the years and you're right. The Reds are very, very dangerous right now, and they're dangerous for Multitude of different reasons They got obviously often seems to just started to be quickly quickly right now, But the most important thing is they got really good starting pitching, and you know that takes you a long way, And that's why I like the Cubs chances as well. When you have a good starting pitching, you can neutralize really good offenses. So they they're definitely gonna be dangerous. It's Ryan Dempster and right. We enjoy seeing you and hearing you with Landon, JD. And also your features like off the mound on the marquee network, And you will have an answer to that question. Who is the worst guest once you book me on your show, So you've got that to look forward to I appreciate we appreciate your charity work that you do, and we certainly enjoyed you as a player. And now your connection with the Cubs. Keep it up. Awesome. Well, thanks for having me on. I really appreciate the kind words and we'll talk to you See you down the road. Cubs Offense Struggles Downright Ugly, Lester Lacking Confidence

"You brought up Jon Lester and I thought the most interesting thing about this is Jon Lester is I can say Howard asked at this time of the morning. He's a guy that has been through 24 7. Yes, School is ah, Utah. I love talking to him in the clubhouse. And you know, conversation could go on for 10 minutes or 20 minutes or 30 minutes and you walk away thinking boy? That guy knows baseball. I just learned something right? And I was concerned when earlier in the week and after his last starter to heed voiced concerns about his confidence going forward. That's not Jon Lester. We know That's not him. Now He's 36. Obviously, you know, the end is nearing its always nearing for all of us. But as a baseball player, the end is nearing for him. This is his last year with the Cubs under contract. And he wants to perform the best He can, and he's not been happy with what's been going on. But I was watching the Marquis network on the post game last night, and they were breaking down how Lester attacked the Brewers yesterday with his cutter and four seamer. He got 16. Swings and misses 12 of the 16 rounds cutter in his four seamer yesterday, and he was able to do pitch well, do everything he could possibly do to get the Cubs to get a win last night. They just couldn't hit Brandon Woodruff earlier this year. They have better success against. I think he's pitched against only three times. So, but you got to get some hits, but I was happy to see Jon Lester. Now, if I'm Lester, I go in the locker room and listen. I busted my tail to try and keep us in games. Let's go. Let's pick it up. We've got 2.5 a little more than two weeks to go. Let's hold onto this first place position might might question the Cubs fans is 3123323776 people always talk about the window, The windows wide open all the windows closed. And this this feels like you got like a popsicle stick trying to hate hold the window up and that stick is bending right now because of your big guys Don't hit on field talked about it a couple days ago. Apparently, they didn't get the memo or they got it for a day. Right? For one inning. Anyone? Yeah, If you're big guys are going to hit. You can't win in baseball. Nowadays, it's just pitching is only going to get you so far. Even if you're pitching is doing well.

"Strong, all of us. Really good guy. We know how much Jason Bennett, he's really good at what he does, and that was really nice. I was not expecting that. I was just poking fun that I have a six year old who was watching the sacks broadcast. He was not happy with Daddy with the big screen. And watching Marquis Network and that leads me into and by the way, the sound courtesy of NBC Sports Chicago he was watching the my team's app on his phone. Pat Boyle was very, very happy. And I want to say this that if you were not a fan of J D Jim douches before the weekend after watching three games on Marquis without Jim douches. I think you've come away with a greater appreciation of Jim Douches. Jim and Linda are a great combo, and you can tell E as a Cubs fan. He was missed. They missed him badly. On and hurt his knee right here right now, said a hearse. Any wish you may wish him well and I can't wait to hear him again because the broadcasts are not the same without J. D. So here's your Yes. And maybe he was the most underrated guy ran. Ah, lot of people want to talk about this 312332 sounds 377 Sounds like a lot of come. Fans or butt hurt right now, And I mean, like, Listen, this is the reality socks came to the North side. They were the better team over three games. Siri's Cubs have the better record. I would definitely put my money on the Cubs get into the postseason before I would the socks at this point, but that came to your building cub fans, and they put it on you to C. I mean, like it happens. I mean, just I think being in denial isn't going to help you at all. This is what happens Waddle when you have two teams in town because people feel then the other team gets the upper hand. If this world was a performance of a Bears team and and such We're all in this together, and we're quicker to admit that we've got flaws. But when everyone's worried about the other team talking trash and their fan base, I think, Mohr people in this defend their team and don't want to look at the truth. So Collins in Peotone, Colin, you're on ESPN 1000. What's up? A strong thank you Take my call. Appreciate it. And I'd like to just say if this was the same time last year and I'm a Cubs fan, by the way, but If I had hit of a jillion home runs, and then the next day got shut out by Yu Darvish. I'd be extremely frustrated. You think we're heading in the same trend as a team? After being shut down by an ace pitcher after having what was it like they scored. 30 18 runs on 33 hits in the series, and that's with what they did yesterday. But all the runs were scored via the home run and didn't look incredibly dominant against Hendricks, either. I don't know. You chased him after five. He gave up three earned runs, right? That wasn't Callahan thinks that I that I love I listen again. Like I said, your baseball team to me is a good baseball team. They're going to the postseason. I asked the question, 10 days and I just don't know how damn good they are. And the team on the South side came to your building and dented your bleachers. Just I mean, it wasn't a good weekend for you doesn't mean that you won't get the best of them When you go to the south side of the end of the season. I think the lineup reminds me so much of 15 with cubs when they just kept they would bring up Wilson. Contrary one after the I would bring up Schwarber, they went And they would all hit there. And you're like these guys are going to be good for 10 years. The Sox are gonna find flaws with each player. Of course, the legal catch up. But right now, you should appreciate it and love it. And I think they could go and make a lot of noise because of this. I mean, not all lineups are perfect. And Yeah, the slum too, But I really feel like the sky could be the limit. And we haven't seen von yet. We still have the least offensive. At least offensively. You've got a ton to be excited about. Wait till you see it Sees Continue. I thought sees for the most part was pretty darn good. Ricky should have pulled them early. So question about that. John and Rolling Meadows. You're an ESPN 1000 Johnny. Good guys. Yeah, I remember talking to you mark on Thursday. And I told you that if with the way the the white doctor seeing the ball now it's like a beach ball up there if the Cubs pitchers Didn't keep the ball down in the strike zone. They were going to get hit. Is it hard? Rester was like all over the place on Friday. I mean, he really had no control. And Hendricks after what he saw from his teammate getting hammered. I think he was kind of shell shock going under the mount against this club. Trying to keep it away from the middle of the strike zone were you know they would hurt him? He did a nice job. And you know, I think your yesterday But I saw that Darvish was touching. There's your aid to the future. Darvish is finally living up to the contract. John. Yeah, I mean, he could throw 97. He can throw a curve that 90 he control. You've got a split finger that Does magic for him? He was he was he was He was Almost perfect yesterday. But what I called to talk to you about really quick here. With the facts leading to get a left fielder that can play left and put your manners in the D H role where he should be. The White Sox still have plenty of money to go out this winner and get what they need. And they're both pretty much set. I love their stopper. I mean, Alone at the.

"But he had got the shot Do is risk on Tuesday and this Tuesday night game and then the doubleheader Wednesday they were hoping yesterday with the day off, he would be able to be back in Line it today, but, uh We'll see what they decided upon after him getting to the ball park and doing some drills this afternoon, so should be determined. Okay, it feels like one of the more optimistic stories that has built of late has been the performance of Craig Kimbrel. Is there cautious optimism inside that clubhouse Or is there some really feeling here? That he has found his stuff? I think there's a real feeling for sure. The way that it's it's slowly built up just swinging. This is are the biggest thing that everybody's been really encouraged by on and I think there would be more Cautious optimism that this was a guy who had been a proven closer is one of the best to ever do it. But that certainly helped with the optimism of that he's getting back to being that guy. So yeah, a lot of optimism. Surrounding him lately, for sure. Taylor McGregor joining us on Waddle and Sylvie, the field reporter for the Marquis Network in the Chicago Cubs in half has looked amazing in this shortened season. So far. He's been at the top the lineup since Chris Bryant has been out and he looks the most comfortable in that spot at the top the lineup do you think there's a chance that he stays there? I do think there's a chance we'll see that I would say, though within the thing that's been encouraging is the way he looked in every part of the lineup. I mean, he's basically spend pleasant to just about every hole in the light out whether it was a starter or consider, and he's consistent, which I I asked David about that the other day of how much you watch that as a manager just lighting a guy at different rules because you think different pitches and the role gets tweaked a little bit, but within unable to stay so consistent, and I think that's a testament to who he is. And the hitter that he's developed it to really the end of last year in early fifties, and so I'm not going to light that leadoff spot, but I do think there's a chance he stays there. And no matter where where the Cubs seem to slide him into, he sounds success. So that's encouraging. You have been fantastic on the flipside of the coin. Hobby bias has really struggled. What have you seen from Hobby this season? Well, I think the thing of with hobby is he's a free swinger aren't right. So he is going to be a guy who gets up there and crisis going his way out of what he is feeling at the plate if there's been any encouragement On Tuesday, the most amount of pitches per plate appearance. Up there the most that he had seen this season, so I kind of liked that patients from him. And we'll see where he continues to go. But he's not a guy that I worry about, because he's again of a proven major league hitter. So sometimes guys go through these things that you always talk to him. They don't know how they get into it. They don't know how to get out of it. So I'm not worried about him. I think he'll be able to find Himself eventually tell him before he lets you go interested on your own personal thoughts on the changes in Major League baseball, the seven inning double headers and the new rules with regard to extra innings. Yeah, the extra any cruel when they first Said announced that they were going to do that. I was a little bit skeptical, but I will tell you what the first time I believe it was against the Pirates that we saw that play out. It was energy to the game and I felt that all the planes felt it so I was on board..

What's what's your audience Stick about the 500 the big announcement this week not only lifting the blackout this year, but reduced capacity, 25%. What's what, I'll and I'll and I'll add masks to that, too, because you know, having to wear a mask. In in August 23rd outside, people are excited. It's back. No question about it. I mean, they're I've had so many people say You know what? I put a pole outside. Will you go in August with a mask, and I think it was 60 40. Said Yes. Most of the answers, were they Look, I've been going for 100 years. I'm not going to stop now. Some of the answers were look, I'm not sitting out there in a mask. But one of the interesting things maybe you guys touched on this. There's a bit of a snitch lineout there, right? Yeah, That's a bad thing that you know, Some lady walks up to some guy who's on a 75th beer, and he's right. And these poor yellow shirts are being tasked with, you know, telling Big drunk shirtless guy in the stands? Yeah. You need to put a mask on a wave. Right? It's only 9000 degrees. Your £7000 you're in your fifties. But not about Bud life, but strong 16 ounces use. May Sir, would you please put your mask on? I remember one year and this is years ago, I accidentally bumped into Steve Antman and his team of goons who all had his Miami Dolphins jersey on which is weird in itself on they were ready to throw down with me. And I was there with my dad and I just bumped into the dude is a former Colts player. He was like this guy right? And so I can't imagine some 80 year old Oh, sure, Going up to Steve Whitman and his team of bones, asking them to politely leave. I'm saying Here's what I don't understand. I flew recently I flew back and forth to Florida on a tiny little hollowed to 30,000 feet in the air with 100 other people. I wore my mask and that's fine. But I don't understand why you can't fit people into a empty baseball field. Right now. Codes are even the Indianapolis Motor Speedway enough room to social distance without masks. I I just I don't get it. I don't know. Medical expert out there somewhere. That's going to call me an idiot. But I could fly with a mask on an airplane. But I can't go watch the Cubs play in that giant stadium with reduced capacity right now. I'm with you on that. I look you want to get yourself in trouble. Equate the protests to the spike in Corona of your races. Stand your racist. Don't you dare do that to me, and you know there's certain things that are common sense and one of them is at the Indianapolis 500. No. You got to do And you guys probably I'm sure you know this. Get one of those things that shows how big the infield actually is. Just like you could put the Roman Coliseum. The city stadium. Yeah, and all of a sudden you can't I don't know. I don't really I don't get that. I don't look, I'm not saying you should pack him in. At Wrigley. I'm not saying it should be 40,000. But take however many sections you have Figure out Okay, how many people can social distance in that section and let's go. Here's another question that people have asked me and I don't know the answer. Maybe you all do. I think it's still an NFL policy on blackouts. If you don't sell the game out, they're not going to show the game in your areas. Interesting. That's interesting is no way right. We're black down. Right, The cold sand there going Oh, it's I'm sure it's reduced capacity Lucas oil. It's not even capacity yet. They haven't even decided We saw Green base at 10 to 15,000 Atlantis said 10 to 12 something. Yeah. So how's although I'm assuming they're just going to say Look, we're shown game. You would think that, But then you see what the MLB networked us and they still continue to black out. Teams here in Indianapolis, which I'd like to remind everyone. We don't have a damn team here in Indianapolis. They block out the Cubs. They block out the Reds. I tried to watch the Cubs on ESPN Sunday. I think it was Sunday. Play the whites. I maybe Saturday. I can remember. I was doing whatever I wanted to turn on. Next thing, you know, I got NFL players complaining about their Madden rating, as opposed to the right. "Quarantined at home in our mobile first Midwest bank studio a lot to discuss I heard the Cubs at a scrimmage last night and that people saw him. Not many were ableto watch the game. Right? I I hear of this. Mark. We Marquis Network. I don't know what it is, Danny. I'm sure you got to watch it, kid. What was what is this? Because I don't know what that is on my cable. I'll tell you what camp I came in here on this beautiful Wednesday morning in July, and I was in a great mood. And then I ran into one of our producers, Jr Strauss has said to me. Did you see the Cubs Inter squad game last night? It was great. It was an inter squad game. Where, while how'd I miss it, he said it was on a marquee. And unfortunately I don't have Marquis. I love Comcast. I'ma calm, Castor by subscriber, and they just didn't make it possible for me to watch Cubs baseball last night, Chris, you had to have seen it. I'm positive that I know a man of your wealth, power and wealth, telling this to be informed on all things. You had to have had that channel last night, right cap as a recent cord cutter vibing with the YouTube TV at the moment, I do not have access to Marquis Network. So I asked you guys this question. If a tree and or a Cubs game falls in the middle of the forest, and no one's there to see or to subscribe to it. Does it really happen? Does it really make a sound? Is that Is that a thing that we can kind of suggest? If no one convene you and see and watch the Cubs play will it really happened? Well baseball return. Will they be participating in the 60 game schedule that MLB is putting on this season? Well. I don't know. I keep hearing that there's this network that they have their games on and I had no idea. I've never seen it. Now I do get to watch White Sox content. On NBC Sports Chicago. My team's APP, NBC Sports Chicago dot.

He locally ESPN the rest of the country, so will not air on ESPN here. You'll need the Marquis Network to see that first game against the Brewers on July 24th And I wonder how many times Throughout this 60 games scheduled that will kick in where locally on Leon Marquis nationally, you can watch it. So it is. That is a plus, though, for those who are not in market Who could still watch the Cubs on ESPN television? Yes,

So I've got some bad news from Jesse Rogers. For those of us that do not have the Marquis network just found out Thie opening game against the Brewers will be on Mark. Yes, for a guy like me that does not have Marquis of Comcast, Comcast Subscribe Donut Marquis. Every time I get excited about baseball. Somebody reminds me of the Marquis situation, and it's like a punch to the gut like I'm at a point now since since March, where I'm so fragile with everything since the cove it and to stay at home in this e learning in this that now I just can't even watch my cubs like baseball is going to start. It's 19 days away, or you know about it Map. That's why when the radio but the point is baseball so close, I could touch it. Yet I'm not going to be able to see it in my house. And just remember no touching because of Copan, of course. You're right, because we just Ah, My wife and I moved to the West Loop. Uh, 32 weeks ago, and we became cord cutters. In this movie, we decided, you know what the options look more desirable The prices for cable Just not these don't make any sense anymore. And to be honest, the options from YouTube TV seemed pretty good. So we went for it, and we've had YouTube TV now for over two weeks. Lovett no issues. The only problem is there's no agreement in place with the Marquis. No work. So I can watch everything else. I can see the White Sox on NBC Sports Chicago I can watch the MLB network I can watch like three or four ESPN Seiken Watch the replay of Paul Finebaum on the SEC, not work at night. I got all of it. It's actually I'm getting Mohr as a sports fan than I did with cable in my last place because of the cable package and the upgrades you have to buy into See what I'm saying. So let I didn't want to buy all the extra tiers of nonsense. So I had like minimal ESPN ESPN one, too. And that was it. An NBC Sports Chicago That was it. And now with YouTube TV. I get all these extra channels, which is fantastic. The only problem is like you said. We're so close. We could touch it. The baseball season's going to start and I'm only going to be able to watch one of the teams in town. Yeah, I'm putting my faith and create Kenny and the Cubs organization and Comcast and YouTube and all these people that don't have agreements toe work this out soon, And I'm not talking in the 25th hour like Don't make the announcement on July 22nd like I need to know I'm going to have Cubs baseball by next week. I'm giving you the dandies that deadline. So by July 30 next, whether or not I am going to have marquee network in my house in Glenview, please. Thank you. I love that days ever made Chris Black singing for David Caplan will take your calls at 3123 323776 Speaking of television and speaking of cable stations, Did you see last night? What ESPN put on air? We're in a time where there are no life live sports. For the most part, there's a few here and there ESPN looking to maximize the audience. Last night, they played an Eagles concert, the band the Eagles. From back in 2018 not Carson Carson.
