An Interview With Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan

"Started by asking them about their dating before they met. I know you dated a lot of interesting people in new data a lot. I really good about you. You had a lot of handsome beautiful people in your lives but you you clicked. So how did you know this was. The right person. lives interesting. the you know when you're young you go out with a lot of people but you kind of know instantly. Listen person so so you and the back of your mind new thinking this. How do i get out of it and and and then you meet someone in the This i don't ever get out of this and then there's a leap buffet at that point because you're so young. When i first met her shoes theater actors from new york. And i was just like prince of hollywood idiot clown and in such dignity about her in a in consideration of what was women. I didn't consider anything. I'm just gonna jump into situations in took over and in any decided. Wow who poise. That's what she has boys when you walk down the aisle. You're pretty sure that this was the right one. Was there anything one little thing that you were quite sure about that. You had to like figure out right. I do know that i was. You know i'd been in so many broadway shows and done so many things like that. And i never had as much stagefright as i had right before i walked down the aisle. I thought it was going to pass out. I was so so nervous. And i just realized this is a really big deal. I'm ready for this. On a Date With Reverend Jesse and Jacqueline Jackson

"It was a bitter cold november morning. When we got to the airport we were heading out to chicago. My old stomping grounds to visit reverend. Jesse jackson and jacqueline jackson not only are these two civil rights icons his work with martin luther king her lifelong activism. But they've been married throughout all yearly sixty years. I was really looking forward to it only problem. Our flight from new york was severely delayed and we were five hours late for our date. It was awful. I really hate being late for anything but even though it was already evening by the time we landed. They said come on over anyway. I've known them for decades and that's the kind of generous people. They are The children well. They all still talk to me. That's a good side. Jesse was diagnosed with parkinson's disease several years ago but despite his condition his spirits were lively and jackie. She's always full of life. As we settled in jesse began to recall their early days in college. She was a into modern dance and she had been librar- and beautiful begun. Measure parents versus freaked on her bills. A-plus all the time though the pluses so you beginning you say wait. What would values you share. The foundation was marriages. Don't last long as they have. No the norwich told free. Russa's deep is larussa foundation when the wind blows can't take it as i see what roles without roots. It cannot grow right over. How lucky you were to find. Jackie i mean other women would have run out the door because you were never home. I love you. I was lucky. I told him because he was going and going and going and then he wouldn't inform me. I went to him. And i said reverend. You're supposed to make me abbey. And i was. I mean because i really felt a man is supposed to make you happy. That's his

"Do you think you will waiting. That's an interesting thing. Because i was being passive aggressive. If she didn't figure it out i could do even longer. You know about it It was being feeling vindicated that she didn't even know why it'd be upset. Like how could you not been married. How long and you don't even know this thing about me. You know so Be that part of it I will say in the. I think this is a little bit of a difference between men and women although i cannot speak for all men and women but You know i have friends. I don't have a lot of friends that i would talk to you about that kind of stuff so she was the person that i would talk to. There were times too. And i would look at him and nights say. Can you not being angry. Because i need to talk to my best friend right now to how to solve this problem and that would help him go. Okay yes we need to kind of shift. Gears into from the emotional. Were upset about whatever it is that is caused us be upset to the intellectual. What are we gonna do about it. Now it's really hard for me to be mad at him for very long because he always makes me laugh and he he's he. He's so smart that it really keeps me going makes me constantly be on my toes. I love that. What do you think are some of the couple of things that you have to have. In order to have a marriage last genuine respect. You know i think Everything else follows that probably and those people who you might really Like even love. But maybe when you really think about it you don't perspective in every single way And then trust for for me. I you know. Maybe it's because i didn't have a lot of people that i trusted And so as a child or a child and even you know. I mean when you go through med school and i. It's it's such a competitive environment. You know You know where where i started a was accepted into medical school out of high school so it was a program that did that and everyone was very some of my good friends now but it was very competitive environment you know people sabotage that each other's experiments and no one was rooting for each other. Everyone was rooting for themselves and So trust in that environment was challenging. I think once. I got into training and neurosurgery training. It was better because now we're all sort of a more shared experience. But what is what are yours. So i was a family. Law attorney for i've represented people in divorces or people who were at that point where their relationships were going the wrong way and i tend to number one thing that causes people to divorce from my experience was resentment and resentment can if it when resentment starts then all the other things go when you know when like he's working really hard and making all the money and i'm he resents that you know i'm not contributing to that or if i'm with like babies crying and you know having no sleep and i start to resent him for being on the road and getting eight hours of sleep or something and resent really only can be cured through communication before the resentment builds and i have to say there have been a few times when i will say to him. I'm working way too hard. And i and i need you to notice. I think that's a great point. I haven't heard that before that you noticed something that is making you go get to the brink of resentful and so you know the only way out of that is to communicate and he works so hard and making sure that he is home. You know he set up. He appreciates every monday to so that he's home every weekend. So that way the he's always there you do stuff without the kids together. Yeah yeah we'll do trips. We have a. We have a group of friends that we we travel with one once a year maybe twice a year depending event and then rebecca i will. We'll go out on date nights. We'll just go to dinner more so now. You know that the kids are you know. They're more independent. If there was a young couple about to be married thinking about getting married are on the fence of getting married. What do you think you would wanna pass on. Nothing in life is perfect. And i think you know. Perfect is often the enemy of a very very good. And and i you know we say that in the operating room a lot. I just want to take out the last piece of tumor. But it's right against something important and if you do that you could sacrifice all the incredible work. You've just been doing for the last several hours in search of perfection. I think it's the same thing and then marriage you know. Once you've committed being searched perfection can be a destructive force. And that's something. That i think i learned and i would pass that on and we'd do pinch ourselves every day and just think we got really lucky. You know if you can internalize that. I think that's a really powerful force mass sanjay and rebecca gupta. I can't decide what impressed me more. How nice they are or how smart they are but more important they have a quiet and deep understanding of each other. Now we can say we know. It seems these to have found the path to harmony together but as we all know spending a lifetime with another person requires some doing especially when it comes to dealing with each other's differences. You're absolutely right that there's accommodations. Did you have to make and like. I'm a really neat person. I'm not maligning. People who are not neat. But but i think that for me. It's just it's just how i am. Remain nick him and not. I'm not a neat nick. There's just there's only so much time and day to get everything in his office is like nothing on. It wasn't a computer. His life is like on the computer. He can store everything there. He rates everything there. Maybe a glass of water. I mean that is just in. My office is a constant. And there's everybody's in and out of my office and they trip over softened knock it all over the place and he's like my mind is to. I'm gonna lose it like just shut the door. That's how we can get along. Here's just came as a and she says. I can't find something go really but i was gonna say though is that the combination or all offset by trust to me you know and that's probably the the heart of the whole thing is that like i don't trust anybody more than i trust for becca to have my best interests and that can be with regard to our financial stuff but also like i don't know what to do here i i'm dealing with something. I'm not sure what the right answer is. There's no absolute right answer. But there's probably right answer for me and so who do i like. who would. Who would be able to answer that. And i think my parents can't answer that because ultimately they they're incapable. I think fundamentally of seeing things from outside their vantage point. They can't put themselves outside their own shoes. The not a bad thing. it's just too they are she. Can i can tolerate the messy office. And i can tolerate because i come home at the end of the day and and i'm dealing with stuff It was always me. I was pretty solitary creature. And then all of a sudden i started dabbling in this idea of letting someone else in. It should really good at it. And i trusted her when you have a big argument. One of you pout. Or full silent or meals. Thank you and i mean. He's still mad about me for buying them a hand sandwich. Like you know fifteen years ago or something. I mean some big arguments last on and on and then they become even though they might be like poking at a at a splinter still there they almost become kind of you know like a running joke or something. We've had big arguments for sure. And i think the longest they've lasted is probably a couple three days in the sense. That might not that. Were at it for a couple of three days. But we're definitely still pissed off both of us and and but you know I came from a real a pretty sedate household like a probably count on one hand the number of times. It was really yelling as as a child when i grow up. I can remember those times because they were so jarring. You know so. It's not really the style. I think for us to have a a big argument. The sense that it's explosive in any way but i will get upset a much more transparent about it now i would help hold it in and expect her to figure it out and and then i realized at some point that was a waste of time because why am i waiting for her to figure i can just tell her. And then at least they can get it off my chest What.

"Single time. I know hugs until i came along. And now if i don't hug him when i walk in the door he's like where's my hog sweet. How they kind of warmed up to and part of that. I think is like my mom's parents and my dad and my dad's parents and my mom because again there was this friction that always existed so you could feel it as soon as for me when it was when the grandparents were over it was a palpable tension. And there's a lot of nice to meet you. And i shake hands changed because it wasn't arranged and they felt like they were different backgrounds. And and i don't think that my my dad's parents probably ever even till the very end fully accepted my mom. My mom was family was not very devout. My dad's mom was probably the most about hindu out of all four grandparents. She was jane which is a very sort of more strict hindu tenant. But i think just because my mom's parents were they were fleeing. They were fleeing persecution and the idea of religion was a bit of an indulgence. I think you know we had a little. We had a little deity in our house growing up but in other weren't any temples so it wasn't like we could really be devout in the united states. that time in the sixties but they experienced religious persecution in pakistan for sure caused them to leave the more reserved about showing any kind of religious interference. How did they feel about you marrying a hindu person. Well good question by data passed away long before i started a date me. He probably knows how he reacted anything. We'd probably been fine by the time we married My mom incurred like he'd gotten like you know. He was finnish and swedish. So it wasn't that he was just like you know we stay at home and we do our things. We wasn't until they retired that they suddenly develop this huge social life right. I think my dad probably would've had been very similar. Except for the fact that he passed away before you know before he even when he passed fifty. And what about your mom. How does she feel about sanjay. Oh she she loved him she she. My mom's just figs sweetheart. She loves she. She thinks he's so smart and fascinating and even to this day. She's like well. I wanna know where he is. I worry about him and and she's very Like like humble and chai around him. So it's kinda sweet right. My mother was italian. Gone father was lebanese and they were the children of arranged marriages. But both both my grandparents were arranged marriages. But my mother didn't like irish people. Yeah i've read a huge article about that. Did she live here in in new york michigan. Detroit in detroit in a sort of lower middle class and her father was a talian and they had two trucks and they still produce of their trucks so they were five kids. They went to school. They had an education and My grandmother stayed home but she was a singer and got little job singing the synagogue or the church of wherever would have she would love to sing but But the in those poor neighborhoods you know. The jews were had their area and the irish their area and the italian said their area and so the irish will considered sort of the lower class people and the shanty irish. So my mother's going out with phil donahue. She said louise irish. My mother had thing there and then well then she got to know him and she loved him when he wanted i malarkey hundred over. So how did you meet. Did we meet at a bar. Classic american mutual friends introduced this in college to the university of michigan. Yeah and i think when we met we were both dating someone else at the time we definitely had more of a shared experience right away and we just had a lot that we had in common talk about red out of the gate And you're thinking about taking a lot of science classes. I remember that because.

"To find out what makes a marriage last that old expression is there a doctor in the house was never more fitting than one afternoon when marlowe and i had lead doctor in our house. Rebecca and dr sanjay gupta in town of atlanta so they dropped by our apartment to talk marriage from the first moment they walked in. You could feel their com- compatibility bay have three daughters and a busy life and they do a lot of philanthropic work together its relationship. That's built on different cultural backgrounds. Unlike rebecca whose family scandinavian sanjay grew up with a distinct sense of being an outsider as an indian american in a small michigan town. I won't think people knew what to make of of indians. I was the only indian you know really there so there was no there was no history with. I was obviously different. Colored skin. had a funny name. You know all that sort of stuff other than that. There was no. There was no institutional prejudice by that. I experienced with rebecca's fan. Obviously any of that stuff there was other prejudices just because you are different. That was that was. That was a totally lead. Yeah i mean you know where i grew up especially if you're the only person that looks like me you tend to then take on the characteristic and other people's minds of every sort of you know fringe groups so you know for for example. The iran hostage crisis was happening. Nineteen seventy nine. You remember jimmy. Carter was president and and i was ten years old and raanan. But it didn't matter you you were suddenly somebody else outsider. During that time. So i remember that being a really hard time the iran hostage crisis for because it was such a such a big thing in the news and every day it was something you know And you know it didn't make sense to remind people have wasn't iran was missing the point right but so so there was there was there was a fair amount of of boeing. I think that happened You know younger younger years in particular and what's interesting. I think detroit is unique in that it has. That's how it kinda. It's a huge immigration community but everybody stays in our little neighborhood largest arabic population outside of saudi. Arabia is in dearborn. I think right was born. Do boy that right. Yeah i imagined at sanjay's childhood experience would cause this couple to have completely different points of view. That's what i would have thought too. And we kind of grew up similar so we have very similar values similar. Yeah it's hard to say that with his parents being indian and might not i guess but We both came from small towns in michigan and full came from parents. Of like you know working you know white collar parents candidate. Would you appearance to on my father worked for ford motor company. Just like his parents worked for ford motor company. They all of our parents just there one desirous us to have a great education and then they made all amid sacrifices for that to happen. And we kinda have that in common we. We feel that that's important may have other. I mean we both grew up drinking the same powdered milk. We have things were in common for awesome. You're rebecca olson. Yeah sounds like a character in his family. Sitcom i think it was a character in a couple of books but he also tom sawyer and a few other before that sunjay gupta. Wow that was a great. Was that with your parents. My it's interesting. I think there was a a deep especially for immigrants to have their children mary within the same culture. My parents were a little different. It was interesting. My my mom was from what is now pakistan. She fled during the partition. So she was a refugee child for the first twelve. Fifteen years of her life and my dad was in india. So they're both indian but but for my dad's side of the family. She represented a very different part of india. All so different that it was like a completely different country completely different culture and and when they got married neither one of their parents attended the wedding. Oh the protest to me. well yeah they. They didn't support it. Didn't support the wedding. And that in each the both would have had arranged marriages and instead his parents met in the united states outside of their own parents and because they met in the united states and not some neither of them had their own parents arranged who they're gonna marry both of their own parents were kind of like This isn't what we set up this in our traditions They were a little bit against his parents married. So you're poets buried in this country here immigrated here and getting married here. A love marriage as opposed arranged marriages. Rebecca said was very unusual. I mean i think you're dealing over time. I didn't now. I've met tons of people who are my contemporaries indians whose parents all of them had arranged marriages. So i we haven't found anybody else. That sort of got married the way that my parents did. And as a result my friends especially my my friends who were thinking about getting married especially if it was someone who is not indian. It was always my parents that they would go to the. They became those parents for all my friends. Who who wanted. Okay you guys did this sort of very radical thank by having a love marriage and you weren't even from the same part of india the same cast the same background. How did it work. And so when we were talking about getting married while they're still a desire on their part to for me to marry somebody indian. They're much more that they had lived through that. Although i say that at the beginning they still really wanted him to marry somebody in right and and then while we were dating and they realized that it was that we were more likely to be together. Then they started to you know be more accepting of it. Did you have indian girlfriends before. Then yeah i did nothing to too serious but yeah and it was all in college. You know it wasn't anything earlier so these weren't necessarily dad was funny. He he he he said. I don't want to meet any of these girls unless you're gonna marry him that's basically what he told me and my mom sort of followed. That was nine with that so they're not frivolous people. They're you know they're they're engineers. They're mathematics people. They didn't talk about love. They didn't talk about marriage. So if i brought home a girlfriend marrying her. Is that why we're meeting her not point. What's the yeah it really was. What's the point they didn't. There wasn't a lot of the not a particularly emotional couple. There i mean the loving. But they're not very emotional unless regard so. My dad's still shook my hand every.

"How old were you when you first fell in love with minus thirty two three two. What was it that you glommed onto. Right away had shiny shoes. I saw him in a bar. And i looked at him and he just finished successfully trying a murder case says defense attorney and it was in the newspaper so mike pearl from the new york post. Who's the crime. Reporter was interviewing me and she came walking into the bar. Seeing me surrounded by these lawyers one of whom was our boss and came right up to me in the middle of the interview. Put her finger in my face and said and who is this. The middle of the plighted. I thought he was able to make an impression which he did. And i said lady please get your finger out of my face middle of an interview and she did and we went out for dinner that night and we saw each other every single night thereafter. So that's how to get to you. I'm telling you put your finger on my easy. I actually had to drag him to the older i did. He really had no intention of getting married. He had no intention of divorcing. He and his former wife was separated floor about three or four years but he had no intention of divorcing was a very good thing he could he could get laid he could say. I can't get serious. i'm married. I said after a year. I want to see the divorce in the paper or don't call me anymore.

"They offered it and often with enthusiasm a real discovery for i think both of us it was fun. And you know after we've been interviewed by people for the press television interviews and they've all said to us especially the print people they said i i never would have gotten those stories out of people in the amazing thing is is that you were able to get them to tell really personal things and we said well. I think it's because we didn't really go in there as reporters we went in. There was another couple so it was two couples hanging out together having a glass of wine or a cup of tea and some nauseous that everybody put out because when we went to their homes they put out things for us. It was a double date. It was two couples. That's if we if we express personal stories about ourselves they would do the same right to mazing how the door seem to blow open. That's different than a reporter. Reporter is such a one sided conversation. They ask questions you answer you know we. We often ask them. How do you fight. Because it's not. It's not just how you fight is how do you come back from one and a lot of people. Can you know there are people in this world who go days without speaking to each other. I mean that is so beyond anything i could do. I mean i. I cannot speak maybe for an hour but i have to get back to it. You know that there are people who do that and james carville when you find yourself arguing. He said she said. I didn't say i didn't mean cycle a circular. Yeah around around. Somebody should say all. Let's kick this can down the road and it sounded so superficial at the time but now long after the interview during one of our arguments. Who did i say i said. Oh let's kick this can down the road and of course we both started laughing and thought this is great it something to stop it. Didn't you say no. You said you put and as of null importance and will you won't remember two days from now but it's so it's such an interesting thing to have some codes to stop. Stop any of of that sort of bickering thing. One of our said. If you're if you're having an argument the best way to get over it is you should sleep toshi deter. "You know by all these women leaving him his mother and his two wives and was very vulnerable. Man i i just fell in love with him bob woodward because you think about what is this guy like mike wallis who goes after. I had an awakening to the consequences of jealousy. And i was fascinated with the marcus willow story who called his wife from boston. She was in new york and he said what are you doing. And she said well. I'm cleaning the apartment. And i'm cleaning the bathroom. And he thought that answer was kind enough fishy so literally. He got on an airplane without telling her flew home got to the apartment went up to their floor and ran past her. Who shoo standing at the door looking for the tall dark stranger behind the drapery and it was a reminder of how that feature which i think a lot of people supp- men especially suffer from a marriage is draining. It can wear you out. I had jealousy when marlo made a movie with kris kristofferson and they had a love seeing well. I mean that love scene i thought lasted like maybe an hour and a half as for a minute. Yeah so you know. I i was jealous and i you know it is. I was jealous of a more things in that he was jealous about a lot of i was i mean. Here's herself the actress. Who was a bad thought. When i first met her so i can only imagine how she was met by other men and she was meeting a lot of men in her work. So this was. This was something i to get over. It took a while. But i recall how draining it was. Jealousy really saps here strength and if you can just get candidate where you're not suspicious all the time it makes life a lot better and better and it's very hard on the person whom the jealousy is directed because.

"Talked about You know seeing his wife on the beach and then till talked about meeting me on the show and then somebody else talked about being jealous. Marcus wailers kelly. Ripa's has been talked about his jealousy. Then phil talked about his jealousy and little by little. He opened up as they opened up and they opened up. As we opened up. Bennett became just like you would on a double date. You know one can't do all the talking. Everybody talks and when everybody starts talking they start revealing things. And it's it's fun you know when we started out. We said this can't be a how to book 'cause a how to book would be like a pamphlet. It's really a what book. What did you do when this happened. What what did curious sedgwick and kevin bacon do when they lost all their money to a to a birdie made off know what what did jesse jackson jackie jackson do when he had a baby out of wedlock in. What did chris. guests do. And jamie lee curtis. He found out. Jamie lee curtis had an addiction problem. I mean what did each and then how do they get back. And what did the solid burgers do when her phone at home rang and the voice on the other end said. Your husband just landed his plane in the hudson river. I mean of course. The world fell on their house. And how do they adjust to that. So we're all of the couples had and it was. It was fun to talk to like. Salaam burger and john mcenroe and patty smyth. So we're in. Jimmy carter and roslyn carter all kinds of people from all walks of life and when we got off the road fill said the thing he noticed was what oh. Both people wanted the marriage that you can't have one person kind of dragging the other along in the relationship. Yeah it really does take. It seems fundamental. Now that i think a parrot both partners have to want the marriage equally. 'cause i know i'm sure you've seen it. Jonathan as we have in many marriages one person that sort of doing all the accommodating putting it all together making life interesting inviting people over you know trying to you know making up being the one that makes up. All the time of that. Those marriages don't work because the other person just feels the person that's doing all the giving and the fixing becomes exhausted and has no nourishment both people have to be nourished. That's what nourishes the marriage and we figure that out along the way the one person can't be the one that always says i'm sorrier or says. Let's try to fix this. That that can't be both people have to to make accommodations for that. The other person is not you and they're going to have different desires and different needs and each person has to accommodate. That and i think accommodation was one of the words that we came off the road with and thought and i had never thought of that word before that it really is. One of the secrets to a happy marriage is a happy accommodation that you say no what. This is what he needs. This is what he wants. This is which who she is. This is what she has to do. If you don't have that kind of thing you know. I remember one time. I was very very busy and running around sort of mad cap. And friend of my. This friend told me a male friend who was our friend of both of us said to feel. Oh my god. Doesn't that drive you crazy that she's running around like dead and and phil said to this. Man don't rain on her for a and that's so touchy. Do you remember that. Check senators and so touched me. That phil had said that to him without me and earshot said don't rain.

Where were you at the time you in bed. It was three o'clock in the morning. Oh you ever better vail or somewhere ski with the boys. Remember what you said. I know you do because you said it before. Then thank you for remembering so that prompts you to both kind of realize okay so this has to happen. We have to figure it out But what are you said. I'm sure there were all kinds of words around that he could have said. But i picked up the phone and said hello and he said he didn't say hello after not hearing him for three months firmness. I never thought anyone would be this irreplaceable. It hit my heart. Because it's exactly what i was feeling and i started to cry on the phone and he started to cry and then he said i'm i'm skiing with the boys and in the next couple of weeks when i can get away. I'd like to come visit you. And so then he did and then and then we talked it out and the and the thing on his mind most. I've got to get through high school. I've got to get everyone of them. "A. I think you have to be catholic to understand but she was to me immediately. An impure thought so we had an instant reaction and it's interesting jonathan because we interviewed so many couples for our book and then for our podcast book is called what makes marriage lasted. Podcast is called double date and many people had that moment where they met each other and even saw each other billy crystal saw janice when he was eighteen years old and he's married to janice for i think it's fifty years. He saw her on the beach. She was saw a ball with a friend and he saw this girl in a pink bikini walk by and he said was i. I'm gonna marry her. I mean these days people. It'll you you have that reaction. It's just it's amazing. How many of our yes. Yeah malcolm glad well. Road wrote the book blink in which he makes the point that first impressions are for many of us. Everything and that was the case in a lot of the couples that we featured on in our book. Yeah that that inciting incident that moment fascinates me as well. I'm curious you know people can go back and actually watched that clip. Watch the original conversation which you know extensively as an interview but really. It's obvious as a viewer that there's something else going on there at the same time and this sounds like both of us sense that too when you wrap that episode you know marlowe you've gotta move on to denver as you share your on this tour. You're going city to city. What are you both thinking after alec. That was interesting. That was nice or something that needs to be followed up here. I was a bit shaken. Maya because i was leaving. And i i had this feeling about this man that i would never see him again. He lived in chicago. I lived in los angeles was on my way to denver was one nightstop and i. I just had this very strong feeling about him. I aside from the physical of how. How good looking. I thought it was and whatever else was going on chemically inside of me. you know. there's something about talent that is very it's an aphrodisiac. You know when somebody does something. Well i mean if you're a carpenter or a actor whatever whatever you are and you do it well. It's very alluring. And he was so good in at the show. I mean i as. I say i hadn't seen this show and the way he orchestrated the whole thing. It's such confidence. He was interviewing me with a lot of confidence and savoir-faire then he jumped off the stage and ran into the audience and talk to them and then he took a call from a caller. I mean he just was like a conductor of an orchestra. Not a qualm about anything. Any comeback to go back to them huge amount of confidence. Confidence is sexy..

"We flew out to santa monica to visit. Ted danson and mary steenburgen. Their house is carved into the side of a hill. It's a craftsman style. Bungalow built in nineteen twenty two and it has what is called a living roof which is covered with greenery to fight off climate change. Ten mary decorated themselves is very relax and homey mostly. It was their warm connection to each other. That grabbed her attention from the start. This is fun. Yeah we've been so excited. We're really that you asked us. Well you came to mind immediately. Really people are always asking us. How did you. How are you married too long. And what i like in likes me. He's cute boys smells and that's a big deal so smell good. Ted likes to play the rascal but once we settled at their farm style kitchen table and began to talk. He was so honest and vulnerable rule of four of us here. I'm the only one who's only married once. Yes i'm the third. i'm being married. Well that maybe that's an interesting way to start because you're a wild optimist or you're total. Denial i mean. "How old is the house. Nineteen zero five. Wow i it's been everything from a speakeasy for mill workers to a music school for girls to a single person occupancy and when you think it was a brothel is just wishful began to wonder where in this five storey house. Would we have our talks. Who's the decorator. David has better taste than i do. So if we ever have disagreements about Interiors it usually comes from a financial standpoint in that. I tend to say dude. We have dogs and two small children. We don't need a forty billion dollar rug. So you're the sort of decorator in your the accountant. Then they led me into their red velvet screening room with rows of quickly theater seats. Just like an old hollywood. What a fitting place to chat with these two actors. What kind of marriages did your parents have. My parents were together until my mom passed away years ago. And your parents. My parents are still married. And they've celebrated fifty plus years of marriage so they've always been only together with each other so because you were gay. Did you think you wouldn't have that. I thought that i was going to be alone or single for most of my adult life. But i had a random path from adolescence into adulthood because i ended up being on a television show when i was fifteen years old and so all pre puberty through puberty. When you're figuring out what turns you on i was. I felt a bit under a microscope of television. And so i didn't have the freedom to randomly hit on somebody or go to a bar. So i i was by myself a lot and had a fantastic group of friends in los angeles. Who knew everything about me. But i just i just wasn't dating. I had never even showered with another person till i was in my late twenties so it was all new to me. And what about you. Deeming i you know. I didn't know what i wanted to. Until sort of i got into college and then after college living in new york i you know i saw lots of different relationships than men having babies and having a family so i i always knew that i was going to settle down and be with someone and stay with someone and have a family and kids. Once we started dating. We never really stopped so we didn't date lots of people while we were dating each other and then decide. We just started dating moved in together. And we've been together ever since same. Sex marriage wasn't legal at that time and and it seemed like a potential but not an inevitability and so we were more conscientious of what wording we used to call each other. I just didn't like the word partner for some reason i just. I still think that's a very strange way to it. Eliminates any sense of lava lover of or some only rome antic lake invasive of your life lover eighties and boyfriends very juvenile was forty calling. Fill my boyfriend and to seems like it's short lived like we've just met together for years. So is it better half and then and then once the marriage thing happened it happened very quickly but we didn't want to get married because it was suddenly allowed to get married. We wanted to get married to get because we wanted to get jeweler already in a committed relationship correct and that was and did you get kids. I just didn't want to go to the courthouse. With a with a hundred other people and people holding up signs and other people picketing and refers i. It's an. I don't want to get married in context owning remember with my family right in italy when it's legal and it's not a big deal. The nice thing about destination wedding as you can easily reduce the number of people. You've been very small weddings. Only forty seven people. We've got married with thirty five and it wasn't a great wonderful. The nice thing about talion wedding or a any italian trip is that everything is so delicious there. Yeah and what we're was testing this rueda. Yeah the mountains in a one of the things that i've noticed because we've been married forty years. Do you count from the day that you started dating or from your barrier wedding. We're counting from the day we got married. We met three years before but we knew immediately. I mean we. We fell them up. We went we went to dinner. We went to bed. That was it was it. That's because we're gay. We count from the day a reverse day because then you add ten years dog enga- years fifty years. We've been together.

"Radio for more Luke Bryan and all your favorite artists. Knows, joined now by Nicole Kangxi is currently in the CW television Serious Batwoman as Mary Hamilton, but her new movie Is called 10 minutes to midnight, and it's now available on video on demand and all digital platforms. It's about working a night shift and a radio station they call this hits pretty close to home for me because I've spent many a night and a lonely, creepy radio station. Oh, well, I You know, I'm not trying to say anything about radio station man. Nice. They're pretty scary. They're creepy. They can be Chris. Specially if you're the only one there and you're working on a long night shift. And you're by yourself in a soundproof booth for 68 hours. Your mind can start doing things to you. Yes. Well, yeah, And I also think that like there's a different relationship to that late night show and your audience like maybe feels more Internet because those are the only people you feel like are awake in the world. No. Indeed it is. I mean, that's when you get the lonely people calling. That's when you get the convenience store people listening. That's when you get the people working the night shift listening and they steal a kindred spirit with you because you two are working the night shift. Yeah. Yeah. I really agree with that. And I and I think we really captured sort of that intimacy. Um In in our movie, and in that sort of the personality of Amy Marlo's show, Amy Marlowe, by the Way, plays an all night this jockey at an all night punk rock radio station. She gets bitten. By a bat and her friend that you play Sienna. Um, is also a fellow DJ, And you all are kind of locked into the radio station all night and then strange things start to happen. Yeah, chaos and soon because there's a storm sort of bring outside. So it forces on inside all night. And then sort of they're forced to be with each other. And I actually you know, play this new radio host that comes to replace her show because I've sort of sidled up our Easy, boss Bob and I come in. I've just fresh out of college fresh out of university. I'm really ambitious and determined to work and radio. I think that's her Ciena's dream. And she comes into the radio station on Lee started to discover that the person that she's replacing and to show that she's taking Is a career of a person of a woman that exists that is real. And she has to sort of recognize those consequences. And what that means for this woman who had no idea that today would be her last day on the job. Been there too. Yeah, you just you just pipe on. You Just finished your show, didn't you? Yeah, I did, Boss. You okay? Get your things. That was our last show. Happened? Oh, it's effort that that's gonna really like an athlete or something like.

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” season 13 episode 2 recap: Drew Sidora and LaToya Ali debut

"Housewives of atlanta okay. We got caught up with candy. Who are actually. This wasn't the season premiere this episode to forgive me of real housewives of atlanta season thirteen episode two but we were introduced to the new cast members in this episode juicer door and the toya ali of the toyota immediately set the screen on fire. And every time you see her and what she's doing and saying she's incredibly beautiful. I love her accent. I love hearing her speak Her in kenya have great chemistry off one another mind not afraid of you know. She doesn't shy away from conversations that feel a little bit uncomfortable. She makes point She had a great debate withdrew dora. Who is the new peach holding cast member Actress juicer door. I'm sure many people are familiar with her from the game From movies she played. T buys she's been in a lot of things But druce doors on the show personally I liked the fact. She has a beautiful family. Beautiful children husband is attractive They are they've been married for six years And she is present in the that she's in. There was a great scene of kitchen with cynthia who adore. Who looked beautiful. This whole episode. cynthia. You live my god but yeah exactly but Her said you had a great scene shooting together. I will say that. I felt like some of jean. Some of drew scenes were affected. I'll just put it like that. Some of her scenes were affected. There's a conversation that took place between her and her husband where it was revealed that when he gets upset he basically goes missing He had gotten upset. He got upset and he was gone for three days. She didn't know where he was. He was responding to her text and her communication but he never said where he was and he was gone for three days. People showed up on being a black man and put it off on a lot of different things. But i put the whole conversation off. His bad acting is it was very unrealistic. Things things that they were saying. Especially in a black household and druze pacing and cadence. And just the things that she the dramatic moments in the conversation. It just failed affected. And so i. I just felt so you think this is just another tv role for her. 'cause 'cause you know on the game. She played usa doors. Are you saying. She's on housewives playing again her seen i dunno Because it was could be yourself or google. Play your so. She's got a peach and letoya doesn't have a peach cuss a very good question after allegedly his lee alleged the exactly asante an the toyota is heavily Shown in heavily involved in a lot of the Major plotlines of the season And allegedly the word on the street. Is that la toya was all set to be a fool. Peach holding housewife and her estranged husband at the last minute pulled out in wanting his children to be a part of the So the totality of her life and they made the decision to have her cast as a friend of the show. But i think she's one of those friends She's one of those friends that has a lot of involvement in the season in the way that marlo hampton does so the toy presence will definitely be failed in after when episode. It already is Drew seen affected

"Show host Tom Kennedy died. He was 93 Kennedy. Gotta start the weight 19 fifties, joining his brother Jack Nar's in show business. Both ended up being game show host. I wonder Jim pick at that gym pick new Tom Kennedy. He knew all those guys. They all hung together because that's a very specific genre of Hollywood entertain with epic of a club. That's right, you don't say was Kennedy's first big hit game show lasted six seasons. During its first run, Kennedy best remembered for another game show. It started in 1970. For that one lasted almost eight years, Hollywood two contestants were playing against each other for the right to win $100,000 on the one of $1000 name that tune live performers. They would play the song Sing the Sons and then the contestants will have to guess what the song Wass they sing it right up to the title. I didn't want to give it away. Obviously, when those singers was AH woman named Kathie Johnson I know her as Kathie Lee Gifford that so she got her start modest beginnings. This song. It doesn't just sound since so seventies. So Yeah. Look like laughing. Dante. Yeah. Yeah, Kennedy would take over hosting duties on password plus after the death of another game show legend Wisconsin's very own. Allen Ludden. Did Trump say he would disown son? Details Back Up Atlantic Story

"Reiterating on the heels of this Atlantic piece, where again, I say put up or shut up Whoever's making the claims and even the Washington Post on DH, the other sources that are claiming and confirming and adding Let's dispense with the anonymous sources here. Let's Let's go. Come on. Anonymous sources revealed yourself. Show your faces. Could trump have said these things. Maybe Didi. I don't know. Again here on the kids. 1993 pre nuptial agreement was obtained by Vanity Fair. This is last year in 2019. And it was a pre nup between Donald Trump and Marlo Maples. And in that particular pre nup. It established that Donald Trump would stop $100,000. In child support payments for Tiffany Trump when she turned 21 years old or if she joined the military, the Peace Corps or land in a full time job. Is I mean, was was president trump averse tow any of the kids joining the military and then then the other piece here, and this is in the ants book or aren't And this is Of course, the aunt of the kids and the niece of Donald Trump. Trump said that he would disown Donald Trump Jr if he joined the Army, and there were reports that Donald Trump Jr was considering joining the Army, but he would disown him if he did. Is that true or false again? That's in the nieces book, which took a lot of slams. This is from Trump's brother. Uh, his daughter trumps brother's daughter, the niece who wrote the really nasty book. And remember, that's the same needs that also recorded Trump sister making disparaging comments, Withy surreptitiously recorded tapes. Which got a little bit of play recently.

AJ Chronicles His Personal History With Donald Trump

"Back when I was reporting, somebody sent me a package in the mail one day of naked pictures of Trump's then wife Marla Maples. And they weren't cut and pasted together. This was the real deal. And they were authentic. So I call Trump. I go, listen, I got these pics of Marla, and she's naked. He goes, run him off the Trump Tower. And I do. I could have called a friend at the inquirer or a producer at hard copy or inside edition and been paid a bundle. But I did what I consider to be the smart thing. I bring them to Trump. He inspects him. He says, this is her. Do we know who did it? I tell him I suspected her sicko publicist Chuck Jones, who was later arrested for stealing while his high heels to feed his foot fetish and Trump's like, you might be right. Then he stashes the picks in his drawer, gives me one of those Trump handshakes and says, you did the right thing. I owe you. Cut to a year later, spring, 1996. Trump invites me to a party of Mar-a-Lago. It's a flapper themed party. And I go, and it's a lot of fun. The place is insanely palatial. Little gaudy for me, but still, you can't deny it's insanely huge inhalation. And we're having a great time. And it's about midnight now. Marla announces she wants to go to a nightclub. And all our Palm Beach girlfriends are thrilled. Donald says he's tired and he stays back home because you go. I said, I'll go. So I go with the girls and a few of their gay guy Friends and a bodyguard. We're at this club, and I see Marlon making Googly eyes at this bodyguard. And it was obvious to me she was into the guy. So I asked when I'm all his girlfriends who at this point, they're all drunk on champagne. I go, this bodyguard looks awfully chummy with Marlo, what's up? And she has no idea who I am, that I'm a gossip columnist, and she goes, oh, that Spencer, Marla's crazy about him, but it's a secret shh. Okay, so later that night, like 3 a.m., we get back, we get back to the Mar-a-Lago and I decided I want to take a walk to the ocean. I thought I was all alone till I saw Marla and this bodyguard tucked behind a dune. I didn't see anything happen, but I saw enough to know I'd seen too much. Once again, I may, but I consider the smart move and share the info with Trump. At first, he didn't want to believe me. Then he calmly said, I'll handle it. I go back to New York and not too long afterward, there's a huge story about Marla and a bodyguard Spencer Wagner being spotted by a cop on the beach at 4 a.m.. Everybody denies the affair. Mahler does, Spencer does. Mahla says, you ready? She just needed to pee. Not in one of the 200 bathrooms at Mar-a-Lago, but in the ocean. So Trump immediately fires the bodyguard and not too long afterward, he files for divorce for
