"That side of the field for kind of the tv booth Radio booths and cameras. And then kinda the to the laughed which was more from third base over to to home plate which was where kind of the writing media was and then there was a different media center. That was kind of off the Off the grounds a little bit is pretty close to the chicago. White sox locker room so you just kinda had to walk over there and it was a great view of the field. The only the only person i. I felt bad for was set next to marley rivera from espn new york. Because she had a poll right in front of her. And so i was trying to move over a little bit letters see and and but but other than that the views were great for everybody else except marley and certainly was You can see everything going on on the field. What kind of access scott did media have prior and after the game. Yeah there was the typical field and and dugout access Players were able to talk. You know without masks or you could go right up to him. Just kind of like the old days of governor major league baseball there on the field there in the corner they were everywhere and and they had no problems no reservations whatsoever talking to him and then a few of the stars star players couple of each team. Both managers spoke before and after the game and the media center so There was a lot of access there and it was. It was different. It was unique and it kinda brought us back to what life was like pre co vid in some of our interviews but then also i think everybody kind of realized that the importance in the city in the specialness of the game and and so almost everybody was willing to talk no matter it was on the field before the game or anywhere afterwards. What were there any protocols that that the credentialed media had to follow in terms of masking in terms of social distance or anything like that. Yeah there were two. I mean everybody has present a vaccination card to get in and And once you've got and the only other requirement was in the media center which was indoors to to wear a mask The press box was open. I know everywhere around was opened so there was no need to wear masks anywhere else or at least i was not the requirement. Can you give my listeners. A sense of of how this was played in iowa in terms of the lead-up how big story was it so like in relation to whatever the traditional news story of the day would be. Where did this where did this. Mlb event sort of rank there yet started to grow an interest and importance. Kind of i would say a little bit before the fourth of july and it just kinda started to soar and a groundswell of interest grew and then in the final week leading up to the game Once the the lottery for tickets was released it was I haven't seen anything like this since except maybe a few big college basketball or football games but and that night itself it was the big story in the state no question and and it was really a kind of examining the interest.

"Her ball in there for Strike three that just froze. He strikes out for the third time. 13 K's in the book for Gary Cole, who continues to be just brilliant. Jared Cole. Seven innings, gave up two runs 13 strikeouts. Most In Yankees History and pitchers playoff debut with the team Yankees beat the Indians 12 3. They won it going away in Game one. Garrett called the second pitcher in postseason history with 13 strikeouts and no walks. In the game. The other being Tom Seaver in 1973 NLCS in Game one of that Siri's Garrett Cole right spot for the Yankees and their Game one win over the Indians, ESPN Marley Rivera. It was a special night because we've been hearing all those can cheers and boos. But today, there were really there were actual fans in the stands, Not a lot of them. You know, A lot of players were allowed to bring two or three members of their traveling party, which is what it's called, and Garrett Cole had some members of his traveling party, none other than his wife and his baby boy, Kaden and Scott. One of the things that Garrett was joking about was the fact that he never thought that the very first game that his baby boy Kaden was only about three months old, would witness Would be in Cleveland and a historic day. For him is a Yankee. You've got people there and it is. This is the family. We've seen that in a bubble in the MBA as well. But the playoffs. Atmosphere, especially, I think about Cleveland. These two teams Cleveland and Yankee Stadium. It's so tense. There's so much passion and I just wonder how you would describe what it feels like. Because there are people there. Yes, but not, you know, 60,000 people. What? How's the atmosphere? How do you describe that? I always thought. We know what's happened this season. Right? We know the current of ours shortened season has been very difficult right without those fancy to stand without that energy, and the Yankees have talked a lot about that. So that hasn't been there, but it was different today. There was a point where you actually felt that it was a really playoff game. A couple of booze, a couple of cheers and even Boone and Cole said it even though they couldn't really hear their families because you could still, you know, hear the canned laughter. You know, as we know we joke around, but obviously the collapse and booze that they knew that their family was there. And I do believe that in 10 City was there. Obviously, a lot more of the Cleveland Indians. Family members were here and they were quiet. Pretty early with that kind of performance of miracle, not a lot to cheer for. From the Indians fans they gave up a season. 12 runs allowed time for the third most they've ever allowed in a playoff game. Gary Cole with his third career, 12 strike out game. In the postseason. That's the most in postseason history and the Yankees take Game one with the 12 3 win over the Indians, Gerrit Cole. Certainly the impressive pitching performance in that matchup certainly was not the on ly impressive outing of the day snail comes set. And 22 and a slider in there for strike three called and he rings up video for the third time today, and Shulman calling it here on ESPN Radio Blake Snell didn't allow a hit through five. And by the end of the game And the pitch is swinging a little slice back of third and caught by Joey Wendell, the third baseman for the Rays, and Tampa Bay will take three won. The final is they win the opener Blake Snell goes five and two thirds gave up. One hit, struck out nine went five innings without allowing hit the longest no hit bid and raise playoff history and his nine strikeouts ties the most in a playoff game in Ray's history. I mean, I'm getting into a groove but usually takes me a little while to get going anyway. So, um, I mean, it's been two months, but you know, it's usually start slow, but I'm starting to get the hang of it Start to feel it. The playoff energy always gets me a lot more excited for sure this we're having fans but least seeing people moving out there was really cool. B. I mean, overawed Sappho. Good but still things that work on. It's hard to like, justify really good and you know, for me, at least, so let get away and I'm happy about that. But we're still a couple walks. There's things I could do better. So, yeah, I'm just going to focus on that continue to have always done. Just find a way to get better. Speaking of positives for Tampa Bay, the Rays induced 30 Swings and misses most of the play off game in franchise history. SportsCenter all night ESPN radio Blake Snell No, it's allowed through five for the Rays. How about to start the White Sox saw Comes the two to Swag in a ground ball up the middle. That's a base hit and lost. Ella breaks up the perfect game that had coming in the bottom of the seventh. Lucas Giolito seven innings. One earned run eight strikeouts, had a perfect game through six. Became the fifth pitcher in postseason history to carry a perfect game through six innings. ESPN insider Tim Kurkjian Julia, Of course, we had a no hitter this year has a great curveball. And like so many pictures today, when he's right, you can't hit him is which we saw today. But more important after Giolito because we knew he was in for a good start is that the White Sox lost seven out of eight games. They went from three games ahead in the division to the seven seed and look bad doing it. And then Giolito said, All right, that'll be the end of that and again with that curve ball. And the way he looked, he can locate. Plus they hit the ball out of the ball. So keep in mind. The White Sox are 14 and oh, this year when a left handed pitcher starts against them, And that's what happened to hit his Sardo pretty good today so that Syriza shifted in one game to Because Giolito six inning no had been for Chicago, Blake Snell of five inning no hit bid for Tampa Bay. First day in postseason history with multiple five inning no hit bids by starting pitchers SportsCenter all night, ESPN radio the fourth.

"First and last on ESPN radio on in fifth. Yes, we're playing Nickelback. And it's directly related to the NBA. We'll get to that in just a minute. We want to get everybody caught up on some important news this morning. Former Red Sox star David Ortiz was shot in the Dominican Republic his condition. Currently is stable voiding to multiple reports. This is what Marley Rivera had to say. ESPN major league baseball reporter on the latest with David Ortiz is out of surgery. And that they've, it's okay this coming straight for Illo or t-, David or his brother. We had heard from Leo Ortiz. David or Titas dad who in the beginning, when I confirmed this to yes, bien total didn't have further information as to where David had been taken. Now, we know that it in this particular clinic, able kansallis and he had been treated, and it's currently out of surgery. So very good news outpouring of support has been massive all over social media. We actually saw a tweet recently from Pedro Martinez saying that he. It was quite rejoiced that they've at our tease out of dangerous. So great news coming out of the Dominican Republic. We still going to have more information as to what happened with the assailant, and really everything that's going on except that we have video that ESPN has acquired as Marley river major league baseball ESPN reporter references there. There's video of the incident that is incredibly difficult to watch. But we will keep you updated as we tried to find out more information throughout the course of the day. Let's get some straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless. Best phones, best networks, no contracts. I know this sound shocking. When I when I try and compare the NBA Nickelback, a lot of people gonna roll their eyes. They don't understand what I'm talking about. But this is simple. Everybody hates Nickelback. Right. That's the popular conversation. Everybody hates Nickelback. So Nickelback has become that ban that super to make fun of right. Like everybody likes to crack their Nickelback joke and I roll my eyes at it because what we seem to forget that Nickelback had. One of the most downloaded songs of the decade Nickelback was an incredibly, they were the highest selling rock band of a decade, you go through all of that. And most importantly Nickelback sold this is an actual step Nickelback sold selling tickets, not, not, not giveaways. Not not. Hey, come to this show for Freeman, no Nickelback sold eight million tickets to shows in the course of a decade. So everybody tells you that they hate Nickelback, but the truth of it is, you still can't get a ticket to a Nickelback show. There's been a lot of time in Nashville. I have friends that were the Nickelback showing I'm looking, I'm like I thought you hated and everybody's like, well, so my girl made maybe go, like everybody's got some excuse. But the fact is Nickelback sells out arenas. And everybody says they hate it. They can't stand it yet. Somehow people consume the music, it's like it's just become cool to hate on it. Wait, what you like it's fine. But it's just like the NBA everybody says they hate mega team. Everybody says they hate you know, this, this era of noncompetitive basketball. How long we've been talking about this season as being a wasted season because Golden State is going to win the championship and we all know it. We didn't have that conversation since last summer since last summer, we've been telling everybody hey, just get through this year. If you can just get through this year next year, we're gonna have this great free agency, period. And we'll finally have competitive balance. Well what do we have now? We have a raptors team sitting on the doorstep of according to Vegas, the second largest upset in the NBA finals ever. We have the raptors with one quiet superstar. We have the raptors on the verge of pulling off the mega upset. And ninety holler watching. I have a hard time making the numbers make sense in my mind because when I say, nobody's watching, I mean nobody's watching the NBA finals. We don't have we don't have Stanley Cup numbers yet through the course of the last night. But one thing interesting stood out to me, obviously hockey has smaller fan base to begin with. These hockey the Stanley Cup final right now. Between the blues and the Bruins which by the way, the, the Bruins get the win last night in Saint Louis which forces a game seven in Boston, which trains Lee appeals to send to Saint Louis because the blues at this point are undefeated on the road in the playoffs when they head into that game, either tied or behind in the series, strange fact, but that's where the blues are. So this blues, Bruins Aries is about to go seven games and there's the opportunity for the blues to get their first Stanley Cup championship against a team in Boston. That sort of has his legacy that, that people understand into city in Boston that used to winning championships. And what do we have we have finals numbers or final numbers for the Stanley Cup that are doing great? I when you start to look at the numbers across the board. The blues win peaked at about five point eight four million on game four. It looks like they're getting their highest numbers in the Stanley Cup final since two thousand fourteen when people are watching it. All hockey fans are looking at the same. Hey, this is something special, the blues could get the first championship we gotta watch that NBA fans. Now, we're now, we're okay. Should be noted. This is an important thing to understand. When we talk about TV ratings, the ratings have been through the roof of the country Canada, that doesn't count for this metric because of the way that we meet our the ratings. It's never counted. So the NBA finals TV ratings in Canada, don't count for these stats. I have to say that because we are obviously, there are record numbers throughout the entire country of Canada. We understand that. Right. But my question is where the NBA fans here? Y'all been talking about how much you hate Dream Team's talking about how much how difficult the warriors have made this era of NBA basketball to watch, and now the warriors are sitting here up against the ropes we're getting Buster Douglas, Mike Tyson. And you're not paying attention. What's it gonna take? What's it gonna take for anybody to engage in these finals? Because right now, nobody is. And when you talk about that sort of a an issue like just admit what y'all want. I mean, this is the future that we're looking at the NBA at this point is got one or two things. They better do either the NBA's got to sit in a secret dark conference room and figure out some way to get multiple superstars to go to the Lakers and make them relevant. Right at the beginning of free agency, or the NBA is going to have to do the antichrist ball. Remember when they stepped in and blocked the Chris Paul trade because it wasn't good for competitive balance. And the Lakers thought they were gonna get CPA three right? They need to do the opposite. They need to go swimming at this point, eight hey look, somehow, someway, we gotta get a superstar to LA if we only leg blesses minute, then you only care about the finals if it's LeBron versus the warriors, because it certainly not Cleveland, the TV market. Lebron versus the warriors was a final, you were willing to watch, but you're not willing to watch Kawai versus the warriors and co is getting it done. On the on top of the fact that Toronto's never won an NBA championship. So you have an entire country. That's partying like rock gods outside of an arena, given us an atmosphere. We haven't seen where there into this thing in a level. That is just absolutely. It's hard to wrap your mind around. You've got this epic looking party that everybody wants to be a part of you've got a quiet superstar that may or may not choose to stay you've got all the drama of what the future could look like in Toronto, all of this happening at once and y'all don't care. Like like this just admitted. It mid, and if you don't care that I have to ask what you really want on June thirtieth, July first June thirtieth remembers when the window actually opens. We've always said July first free agency starts starts the night of June. Thirtieth now what do you really want? Do you want these stars spread all over the NBA? Do you really want competitive balance? Because right now, what you're getting in the NBA. Finals is a team with a quiet superstar in a fantastic city on the on the on the precipice of making history. Taking down. I mean, this is David Goliath is get and you're not paying attention. It's time to either check into this series or MIT that what you really want is LeBron versus the warriors every single year. And if that's all you're going to watch. Then I guess I guess that's what we're in for. He's also guy who's beloved in his country, ESPN's Marley Rivera. David Ortiz is an idol Dominican Republic. He is considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time but not only that the work that he has done for the people of the Dominican Republic. Specifically with children foundation have helped a lot Republic. And he is just a beloved like a larger than life for bigger. You know how love it. He is in Boston. There really is very hard to explain out the love it of figure. He ended native Dominican Republic. He's not a hall of Famer yet, I think many of expect them to be, but they treat him just a with this incredible. "We are following the David Ortiz story. He was shot in the Dominican earlier today. ESPN MLB report. Marley Rivera joined us a bit earlier to give us the latest update. What we know that David, what particular restaurant club, if an entertainment center in the Dominican Republic, and that he apparently was shot in the lower back and the bullet went through and through, we have a local reporter who have been we have been communicating with them. We I got informed that it was the United heart clinic. But actually, he was taking the clinic he was going to be taken, I, but he was actually taken to a separate clinic able dollars. And that's the clinic where he has been treated. He currently in surgery. And one of the doctors came out and spoke to the media. There's very large media, local media contingent as you can imagine. And a couple of networks, actually. Tweeted pictures of different Trump to presser, we conclude a chief of police, and also included, one of get tending doctors and the doctor who they identified disdain name of the clinic April dollars third, he said that David Dillon surgery, the surgery should take another hour about fifteen minute that we're thinking fifty minutes ago. So we're thinking another forty five minutes, and that he is out of danger in what he said, which is illegal means out of danger. It doesn't necessarily mean that he's stable, but it means that he is out of danger so that we know right now we have been taken to this clinic hit him in the lower back and went through and through and that he is currently in surgery. That's Marley Rivera from ESPN. She's a major league baseball reporter anymore news. That comes to us on the David Ortiz story. We'll get that to you right away. For analysis. Go out to the shell Pennzoil performance line to talk with Andrew gun link. He's the host of offside ESPN podcast, Andrew, the US takes on Thailand on Tuesday, how worried should this team of Thailand or is there another team the US should focus on. I don't wanna dismissive of anybody. I think that's a lesson that the US men learned the hard way in World Cup qualifying appears ago. However, the US women are not be with men. This team is the defending World Cup champions. They are among the favorites to win this entire tournament. So while there are certainly teams that they cannot overload can't overlook anyone, but, you know Thailand is, is fine, but I think anything less than a win would be shocking for this US women's pain, a great team that we're putting out there. And while Thailand, their second World Cup appearance did appear in two thousand fifteen and I did win a game in that tournament. But I think I think the odds are, are truly stacked against them in this one. So with regards to the US women's national team and their death or lack thereof as compared to cups past one of their chances of repeating this year. Very good. There's no question about that. Now there are some things that are against winning in two thousand fifteen winning the World Cup is difficult no matter where you are. But I think it's made a little bit easier for the women in twenty fifteen the fact that it was in Canada. There was an enormous US contingency, that was able to follow them around the country, and be a part of that turn of the with them, I think going to Europe in France, will present a little bit more of a challenge, especially because you know if you're somebody who's looking at favorites. If you're not picking the US France would be the other team that most people are, are going to pick so the fact that in France and the fact that France have a great team, which we saw the other day when they beat South Korea, four nil, you know, that's, that's gonna be the team, that's probably most difficult for the US to get past the unfortunate thing for the US women is that they might wind up meeting France early in the tournament late coming into this Bs are most people's two best teams but the. The way the tournament Konta maps out if they both win their group, which is likely they would meet in the quarter-finals, which is much earlier. This is a match up. That's really spending a final. So there's a chance of age win. Their group will still meet each other in quarterfinal state, which was kind of ashamed of fallout. The early. I don't know the macro discussion. We can have regarding this World Cup is the discussion surrounding VR in gumming. How do you foresee this affecting the tournament in? Have you seen it affect the tournament to this point? Oh, my God VR has just been like this is a very in, you know, I host the soccer podcast on very in with soccer, and like this is just in the conversation that has dominated the sport, probably for three years now because you have so many not, not too dissimilar from sports in this country. But there's just so many soccer purists who are horrified at the thought of this thing now on somebody who is very pro VR, having said that I can tell you, there will be moments in this tournament, where it will drive, everyone insane, whether that be because it takes too long to review something that is seemingly easy to overturn or confirm. It's just one of those things, they're certain rules like VR is amazing when you're talking about something that's totally black and white offside, like either somebody is off side or they're not, there's no gray area there. So it's fantastic for things like. That, you know where it's not the handball rule. I guarantee you between now and the end of this tournament, we are going to drive ourselves crazy over analyzing, VAR's decision on a handle on the box, because things that used to matter for the handball like intent, or spacing health are player was from where the ball was kicked, you know, things like that with a are when you slow it down. You know, everything looks like it has in ten you know, we're talking about, you know, things that happen in the blink of an eye. But when you slow it down and instant replay, all the sudden it looks like it's more malicious of all the things that a are has done so far because it's been introduced another major competitions. I think it's done a lot of good. But I'm telling you handball in the box is going to be won a major goal is going to be awarded at some point because penalty on VR for handball, and there's going to be just a, a massive discussion about it. That's that's the one thing kinda like pats interference, the NFL like it's very subjective. And now we're going to open up that Pandora's box. After what happened in the NFC championship last year. And I just don't know if it's gonna all things things, it's still going to be so up in the air and not clear. And that's the case for handles in, in soccer. We appreciate it. Good stuff. Andrew, thanks so much for having me. Trevor how much of this World Cup gonna be watching, you know, I'm going to tune into the US. I'm not a big soccer guy. But anytime the world gets involved, we've got to represent the country down to watch. So here's a quick story because I'm a big rig listener, three assists and two brothers of Bob Marley. I think it's his oldest daughter, sedalia or sedalia, and Stephen and Damian Marley. They wrote a song and released called strike hard to try to get funding because the Jamaican federation cut the funding for the women's soccer team in two thousand sixteen for the second time, but they're back, thanks to some of the Marley kids, and they're playing Italy on Friday, the fourteenth that's such an infortunately, but happy ending of a story that, like I, I am I detest? The fact that they were stripped of funding shout out to the Marley cats of coming through funding for you. Gotta love some like that. The Jamaicans nickname, the team's nickname is reggae girls. With Zeh, right. Hey. Swaggie. Marley will never die is going to keep him. And he's breeded and created all these wonderful children that are trying to change the world. Like he did a beautiful. You gotta love it. Yeah. Coming.

"Pennzoil performance line. You can follow us on Twitter at C, J, Silas, and at Trevor scales. Former Boston Red Sox star David Ortiz was shot and wounded at an entertainment center in Santo, Domingo. The players father told ESPN's in Rica row Haas, and Marley Rivera ESPN MLB reporter is covering the story Marley, give us as much information as you can so far. Well at this point, we have very limited information. We have confirmed the name of the club, the club at an entertainment center, because there's other things, they're just the cloak and the club. It's called dial dialing a phone a L. And right now, when we spoke to Lille Ortiz with David stead, he told him that at that point. We're what that David had been transferred to. But at this point, we are hearing reports that he is in a clinic cold could could've phony needles, which means United hearts and Spanish, so the clinic that, that's the report that we have received that they had been taken to. There are some reports coming out of fifty are that he had been shot in the leg. We have been able to confirm that part of yet. What we have confirmed. David father is that he was shot that he was taken to the hospital. And now we have confirmed that, that it is at this clinic coal could've Sonus on Ito's. So that's, that's the latest, we have we actually can't update you on the condition of David, because we still going to have that information. What about if anything the Red Sox organization they come out with anything have they been made aware of the situation? Tuck developed only in the last maybe twenty five to thirty five minute, I'm sure they're trying to find out themselves. What is going on trying to confirm it very difficult for us even because there's a lot of conflicting reports that, and that's you guys will know, we are very careful when, when we report something on ESPN that we have confirmed that. So what we have confirmed so far, like speaking with the father is information that I gave you before I am doing the thing, but also as you well know, he's a former player so there is no direct connection with them unless, you know, pick picks up the phone, and so on. And any attempt that we've made to reach Davis wife and David family, we still haven't been able to reach them. He SPN MLB reporter Marley Rivera joining into the night, whichever scales, and CJ, Silas on ESPN radio, is there any more information and is there a burglary, maybe that has happened or is speculation right now is really? Tough thing to do. And you're so far away. Well, I mean obviously, we are here in the United States information that we're getting speculation is that what up burglary? This has been told we also were told that the suspect was upper handed. So those things are the only differently formation that we have. But the most important thing that everyone wants to know and that we are twenty find out David conditions so that, that we are right now that or not ready to report where he was shot and what condition? He's the end. But we are, you know, we are reporting that he is that this clinic could I when he does United heart and that the family is waiting for an update Marley? We really appreciate it. We know how busy you are. And everybody wants you end taking the time for ESPN radio means a lot. Thanks a lot. Thank you so much for having me, guys. And then our best wishes Burkey amply. Absolutely. Trevor this kind of story being live on the radio just shakes me because right away for. So you think of the person are the alive. Are they gonna live? How are they going? Recover. How is their family it, you go straight to your heart? It has nothing to do with baseball. It has nothing to do with business and right away. You just you. You're my whole body's having reaction. Oh without question. It's a terrifying subject matter to even try to conceptualizing you know it sounds as if him being at an entertainment center club nightclub. Whatever it may be. It was clearly an instance where it appears. He was just looking to have a good time. So for those circumstances to turn so quickly really does show just the sudden nature of all of this happening, as we try to gather more and more information as Morley mentioned, like, we just hope that David is okay primarily, and we go from there and do the fight fact-finding and see what we get from whatever ventures are being made towards that news-gathering effort one more bit about it. David ortiz. Former major leaguer fan favourite in baseball has apparently been shot. We, we hear that it's in his leg. He's been transported to a hospital. He was at a club. They call it an entertainment center in the DR called dial. And he's been transmitted transported to KOTA Sonus Unidos which is a hospital in that area. That's all we have for you, the more information we get the sooner. We will get it to you. We, we really appreciate your patients. It's a hard one no note without a doubt. And that's the sensitive nature of the subject matter. We gotta keep it keep it moving into we get more. And as we do we'll relate to the listeners. And when you're on live radio or you're on live TV and something like this happens. The most important thing is information, right? Not to throw things out that you don't know that you're not sure of and to have a reaction, but you have to stay rational, you have conscious and you can't quickly just spew information until you have it all. And I remember this is so crazy that this is just come to me. I was live on the radio nine eleven oh. I was on a radio station doing morning music in Seattle. It was one of the most difficult horrific emotional scary, exhausting time in my life. And you just you don't want to give people the wrong information, and you wanna stay clear and intelligent the way that you give information and the questions that you ask, and it just kind of, I think that's why I had a physical reaction because these kind of things they don't feel good. And we do know that he's at the hospital. We do know that his dad has corresponded with someone at ESPN, and we're doing our best to get you the information. We will get back to do that story. K D may play in game five I mentioned that. But is it too late? More NBA finals talk. You're listening to into the night on ESPN radio and the ESPN app..

Your men knocked the rust off very early today in came out firing with a with a a great line about the draft and real talent good job. And so I think that's probably gonna be the best performance today. We should just cut this off right now. No black juniors going to be a heck of a lot better than I am. That's for sure. Some news and notes that day Jake of the Matt suspended for two games for that inside pitch to resource cans. And by the way, I checked it was for the first pitch which led to the warning of bowl teams. It wasn't for the second pitch which really angered resource gains led to that thirty four point two second trot around the bases. When he hit a home run. The next night off Jacob rain. The endings play the Astros the first four games between these two teams in the Indians came out on top. Here's the one. There's a swing and a high fly ball Teep left field. Does it have? Yes. They weren't there this. Well, thanks for knowledge in them. I think you're they're becoming your Mariners like I don't ever know. Because the Mariners fooled me so many times, maybe that's the way it will be with you in the Diamondbacks. Dodgers were in Wrigley field on Thursday. And this was a pivotal play Leicester's pitch. "I talked about it yesterday. We'll talk about it again today. I don't. Don't know why they chose that moment to do that. No. I was there Monday and Tuesday at city field in the Phillies. Head played too listless. Terrible games. Jake area area had called out Bryce Harper gig Kappler said the team was flat. So you had the Phillies down and out at least for two days. And then yeah, why give them this little reason for an extra edge? And we saw what happened last night. I feel like that we need to have like Hallelujah trumpets now because the call bladder Guerrero junior has gone out. He has been promoted to the big leagues. What do you think? Well, we're all going to be watching Friday night. It's gonna be fun. He's ready. He's going to hit. He's going to be great. It's going to be a fun certainly one of the most anticipated debuts in a long time. Finally, let's watch him do magic. I haven't talked to you since this came down. But earlier in the week there were. Speculation in the Toronto media that perhaps the the Blue Jays are waiting for the Maple Leafs to clear the decks their series against the Bruins to get wrapped up for the raptors situation to become more clear. So that black junior could have the full stage. And I said on the pot. I found that if in fact that was the case I found that to be a little offensive like I'm like get the kid in the big leagues. Yeah. I mean, we know hockey's big up there, but he didn't need to play a few games after the oblique injury. So what he played eight games in AAA at three home runs. So that sounds about writing, you know, a week of action, you know, to get back in the swing of things. So I hope it wasn't because of the hockey and just getting some of those at bats unders Bill. Marley Rivera, our friend in. Of course, reporter for ESPN spoke with Charlie Montolio before the game on Wednesday after news the promotion had broken. Finally, you have just announced that cloudy, rare junior will come up on Friday. Have you thought about where you're gonna put him in the lineup? Not yet. I'm excited for him that he's dumb in Toronto Blue Jays organization in that. We're gonna see number one prospect year on Friday. So I'm really looking forward to have you had a chance to talk on the phone or you just finished the press here. I I go I wanted to talk to family, and then I'll call obviously, we've his dad to be here to how much of his special moment is that going to be for the Blue Jays organization to have both father and sunny, great great bombing. And again like before I'm looking forward to watch. Chili's you kind of happy that the questions are over. Then that we can actually start the Blatty junior era. Now, I'm really actually I wanted to Chit question. The end they got a lot of good players coming for sure. And I know everyone's going to be focused on the damage that he does at the plate. Dave. I'm actually more curious to see him play in the field because as the last couple of years when I've been talking with Keith law about him. It's an open question about whether or not he could play third base in the big leagues. And in fact, for Keith it's not an open question. He just doesn't think he can he thinks is best spot in the big leagues is bad that third or fourth. But I'm going to be curious to see because I've seen players get better. "They're going to be better on defense with him out there in center field. But most importantly, I love one Soto we might bring him up here again in a second. Yeah. I think. There's a tease, right? There wasn't sure if I was going to get to National League MVP conversation. But now we will who to wildcard teams in the national. I want with the cardinals and the Rockies. I I might have been feeling that I love the Rockies her mind Marquez. I love look I know you can't win a Cy Young pitching in courts field. But his last eighteen starts I believe it was two point four three ERA about eleven ks per nine. This kid is phenomenal. He took the turn last year. He's the real deal. I love Kyle Freeland the guys stay healthy. Plus, I think they have the easier division, and that's going to help them sneak into that second wildcard. I've got the nationals in the Phillies being the two wild card teams of for me. The cubs picking them to win the division because I feel like they're going to have an edge back this year. I'm not as high in the cardinals. As Marley Rivera told us last week. She's picking them to win the war. Series. And you pick him to make the playoffs. How come? Yeah. I like the organizational depth. I think adding Goldschmidt that thirty Homer bat. They've only had two players in the last six years hit thirty home runs. Now, you got carpenter and Goldschmidt in the middle of that lineup. And I think Marcella Zona who at the shoulder injury last year is again a big year. So I really liked the offense. And I love Jack Flaherty as Kennedy. Oh, man. He looks like a beach. We're talking about Derek goal last week about the comparison to Bob Gibson. Just he looks like he's just going to be someone who's going to be thrown nasty stuff for a lot of years. Okay. Your MVP's in both leagues. Aaron judge. I think he's going to have a just a monster seasoning. I got him to. Yeah. Smart minds, think alike. And I teased it one Soto. I just think this guy could be a four fifty on bass guy as a torn year old. That's how good he is. Yeah. Yeah. And it's neat to hear the stories in nationals people about how he's already a leader real quick before we go. He got for the Cy Young award winners saying, I'm going Blake Snell, and a repeat I love him and MAC Houser tough field in the NFL. Scherzer's the one guy you going to deal every year. Okay. I got Garrett Cole, and I got that was Syndergaard. And if this I think one thing has been proven that my wife's belief that I'm incredibly stubborn. I I mentioned I picked the Indians to win the World Series in two thousand seventeen that didn't happen. So I picked him in two thousand eighteen I had Virginia winning the NCAA tournament last year. I picked him again this year, and I said to winning the National League Cy Young award last year in a picking him again this year. I think I've got a problem. Well, I've gone with the Astros. I think for the third straight year. I was correct one year and I'm going with them. Again, Garrett Cole you could easily like pick him for Cy Young. Of course. So I love that one two punch. So I have Astros over the nationals in my World Series. Man are. Our picks are way too similar. I've got the ashes beating the Braves as I mentioned, so. A lot on the table and fired up where are you going to be on opening day? I'm going to be at home watching every game on TV and problem writing like thirty two thousand words or something. I don't know. So I'm I'm going to be in your town. Is she adult for the Red Sox and the Mariners? But what you're gonna do sounds like a lot of fun. Dave, thanks for doing this. All right. Thanks BUSTER will be back in a moment with Sarah lines in the numbers game. But I in baseball. There are a lot of tough decisions to make like which pitch to throw in three to count. But it's the fact that everyone is seeing it as this is the last we see of each euro Suzuki, and this is not how he sees himself. Now, as we well know Ryan that isn't a decision that is made by the players splitting of players in their late, thirties and forties or still unemployed. So obviously each euro at forty five years old, it's shadow of this first ballot hall of Famer that he will certainly be. But at the same time, he's not ready to say goodbye to this game yet. I had the opportunity to go to Kobe in Japan during my vacation and spend some time with him. And he does not look like a man who is ready to hang up those spikes? Oh, man. I could see him being around for a couple years more. That's just me. So you Darby's so hey, Otani sat down. On with some of the guys who have idolized him that we kind of paved the way for what did they say about his impact on the game and how he impacted them and their careers. Ryan have you particularly ever heard of a player being described as God, I think this is something that we hear in the NBA with Michael Jordan. Maybe like these the kind of think, right? When we heard the other day when we heard LeBron James speak about the all that he has for Michael, Jordan. This is exactly how Kikuchi how Otani how Tanaka how you Darvish feel about him. And if you notice the names that I just mentioned are pictures except that well tiny, obviously is the two way player the two way phenom. And also, I left handed hitter who has benefited for many conversations with each euro. But they've referred to him as God as an idol that this is the greatest moment for Japanese fans to get to see each Susuki play at home, not what the buffalo or excuse form. But with the Mariners uniform, which obviously is so significant for HR absolutely is. And you know, we look at him. And I think you know with analytics being so important these days considering the cut player he is the size. He has would he? Have been you think on teams radar in this age of analytics where so much dominated by these different particulars that each row doesn't have on its face. Oh, I actually think I'm gonna disagree with you slightly there. Because a lot of analytics have to do with contact. I let me have to do that UCR that they came up like a outfielders like each row has those numbers he can compete. He's no longer the offensive powerhouse right of those two hundred sixty two hits in two thousand and four. We're never going to see that again for Michio Suzuki. Oh who knows? Maybe we'll never see it from another player. But in terms of defensive metrics..
