Ah, Colt symbols have always traveled through our political architectures. As well as art and and hip hop culture. And so on, Because they're very magnetic. They're very powerful. We're talking about a space of 10 days, something that's reasonable, achievable within 10 days, but really urgent and really, and not not greedy type, right? Not greedy, you know, but there's nothing greedy. For example, about needing money or resource is or what have you lot of letter. American households are in need right now and think of something that is really necessary and really achievable within a period of 10 days. Write it down. Created grid of 10 boxes and each of these 10 days do everything possible both from a physical and metaphysical perspective to attain your goal work in the outer world, but also pray visualized a firm. These things enter our lives, but they enter our lives, sometimes in ways that don't fit are up in mind's eye. Ah, picture of how it should look how it should arrive. What it should be like. Very, very watchful. See what happens in that 10 days and I'll be doing it with Coast listeners starting.

"Appear to be a good one as they had carted him off in another blow to the Cardinals. Completed defensive front, Alan And Arizona having personnel issues even with that lengthy time out. You saw guys scrambling around in the secondary, the linebacking corps, so Cliff Kingsbury forced to call a time out. With Buffalo, looking at a third and five as Vance Joseph trying to get His personnel lined up. We talked about the Cardinals defensive line situation. Lucky folks who was placed on injured reserve yesterday. They've already last. Chandler Jones, No Jordan Phillips today. So they had to elevate one of the practice squad players Travon Coley and so coldly. They? I'm sure came into today's game, hoping that he was not going to have to see more than 10 or 15 snaps. Now he's gonna be the man the rest away. Yes, and he's already made a couple of mistakes early in the ballgame and pass rush. Blame discipline. Take this opening playing this, Dr. Josh Allen took off and picked up the first down. It was Moreau who actually missed aligned. Did not give himself a chance to be in the proper spot and keep Josh Allen in the pocket. Gets the defense. It's a five yard penalty. Arizona will not be charged with time out on the first down, Buffalo Creek Rolls said with the explanation. Markoff penalty yardage because the Cardinals because we're under two minutes had the time out due to the injury to Peter's. They event called Cell to call time out and are not allowed to do that. By the rules. So 1st and 10 now instead of 35 Alan takes his shotgun snap hangs in the pocket sets fires Far side. Beasley snares the past. It was a little bit high, makes the catch in front of Byron Murphy. And Beasley comes up with the eight posted nine yards on the catch. Clock moving 29 counting. "Time for just one man's opinion Markoff it's been a tough spring for small business owners the covert crisis has impacted almost everyone of us people are traveling or shopping or until last week even getting a hair cut small businesses and the people who work for them have had a tough go of it bummer all that makes it all the more more notable that yesterday over two hundred customers of a local tour operator made an appearance at a drive thru tour preview day okay so I'm taking a liberty here and talking about my own company the underwriter of the show sports leisure vacations Saturday are twice postponed and still can't be held spring preview day became a parking lot style event along the lines of those drives through graduations except our students are just a few years older people can't really venture far from home currently and no one really knows when that will safely change get all those good people came out yesterday to say hello pick up information about new trips and show their support how cool is that for a few hours there were a ton of extended hugs fist bumps smiles in many reunions among traveling friends one traveler decorated her car like it was going in a parade and is part of how it is part of how we roll folks brought piles of socks and pet food to donate to loaves and fishes big piles when our gang gathers we try to make sure someone in the community benefits heck even former Sacramento state president Lloyd Johns came by with his wife as part of his ninetieth birthday celebration happy birthday Lloyd do those who might be listening came out yesterday who are or have supported sports leisure vacations through the years I offer a very humble thank you a great staff wonderful loyal customers tomorrow marks are forty first birthday all business owners should be so lucky and that is just one man's opinion Hey there mark Kaufman in some remote with you the travel and entertainment guys thanks for joining us remember now links to all of our special guests can be found at our website as well as a lot of other cool stuff to make you a smarter traveler and that's a travel guide radio dot com and today we have to make you a smarter traveler we have a couple of our favorite guys from Hawaii Jeff and Robert joining us from each of the white which is a terrific website for finding out information about Hawaii and not even always the kind of information that you would usually come by Jeff and rob walking back to the travel guide thank you regard to be here thanks for having it again yeah yeah I think you how did beautiful white star you guys have become very popular sometimes you throw out things and get hundreds of of comments from people how did well how did the idea of a Hawaiian website well this is robin actually it started with me I was going to Australia on a trip and I decided to blog about it and when I got back to Hawaii I was just curious if there were people blogging about Hawaii and that's by research at the time I found that a lot of people who were doing that did not live here in Hawaii they lived on the mainland I suggest you know we're right here we've always been tied into travel dropped an expert with travel and analysis and they said let's do it and so we started publishing it and then **** we just have like maybe thirty subscribers the timer no you're just a very small number and then about six months after we started publishing beautiful why are the website crashed because Arthur Frommer we didn't realize this but have been following beautiful why and she wrote about it nationally on his website and but if you're a fan of the Hawaiian Islands rush creek two beautiful white and that was changed everything for us that's been our motto ever yeah right robin Jeff would beat of Hawaii what's the what's the status over on the islands okay good job and so we're waiting the governor said this week that he will let us know when mainland travel will resume next week he's already indicated that it wouldn't happen on July first which of many of the stakeholders in the industry have been hoping for ID also hasn't said exactly on what basis it's going to be re opening we thought that the state of Alaska is trying to do it with testing we deal with them not we're not clear where the fate of white is going to be but we do expect you know in the next week and we're looking forward to sharing that with our visitors quickly as we do excellent and so guys if some of the airlines are thinking that they're coming back July the first obviously the the restart of tourism in Hawaii can't be too far away but what are we going to be facing when that happens will there be mandatory testing does anybody I mean a lot of things have been floated do we have any idea your governor is is not a real popular person among local people what's your feeling as to when tourism might start back up and then the other thing is our our the local people going to be ready and eager to welcome tourists or are they kind of getting the kind of liking the islands without tears however your question I'm so this is rob so many of us are tied into tourism here with hotels activities marketing every vacation rolled everything and so I yes people want threw them back it's true the right now there's not very much traffic the beaches are not crowded but that comes with a price the price is that we don't have that income coming into the state so I think people are going to feel that they are welcome back to the islands but we really really want that aloha spirit to be there and to welcome people back to Hawaii that's very important that's what I think and job and ask for a date you know probably the most optimistic day for travel to resume without fourteen day quarantine is July fifteenth I think more realistically is August first so if you've got a reservation for Hawaii after August first you may be okay do you guys think that there will be a covert testing required to come to the islands are not what's your feeling on it this is Jeff from my feeling is that the lieutenant governor who the position and the governor with an engineer would both like to see that happen but whether or not that is a practicality that can be implemented to start travel we don't know we're also hearing about random testing of visitors on arrival so you know we're just not clear about it we know there is casting like if pharmacies in California and that may be adequate we don't know but we know that Washington state Washington does not offer that at this time and that is one of the largest sources of visitors after California so how would that fit into the mix and then there been the unusual in a heated discussions about this concept of travel bubbled whether people in certain places waiter could legally be allowed to come here while others were not and that's still out there so we're looking to have a lot of interesting answers in the next week from our government about how this is going to happen hi guys before we let you go here we've talked a lot about very heavy issues you guys live on uncle white which is absolutely one of the greatest places in the planet and in the islands when you get there I'm always always has been one of my favorite since many years ago I stayed at the quiet beach boy there your coupon and I think our first now who paid forty five dollars a night to stay at now little hotel which has become a act partially a condo now on if folks are coming to coal to Kawhi robin Jeff what's something that maybe with something from each of you give us a little something that might be off the beaten track or something we might look up next time we're in town well I got to tell you when you mention quite beach where the very first time I came to collide that is exactly where I stayed here how about that for coincidence well you probably pay the same amount of money to pay the same amount I don't know yeah I mean I rabbit swimmers we spent about a mile and a half twice a week your home away and we just we just love our summer swimming and we do that while we're planning beautiful water planning beautiful I right we get our best ideas out there in the ocean I want to give that up yeah my number one I'm a recommendation on why is on our way back it is you know yeah I've been on that beach you know because I was a kid and it it's never been better than it is to that living here we took a boat trip up the river and it was really really good but even without the budget you can go and he he's a Hey how you been around the league gate park area yeah and so interests are are fascinating video that just came out recently about this excellent excellent thank you guys so much the name of the website is beat of Hawaii I have a white icon we will put a link to it at travel guide radio dot com so if you're driving around in you and you forget you can look it up later on guys it is the website is my go to website for Hawaii you never know what you'll find at beat of why you have to look every day because you never know what these guys are going to come up with thank you so much for a little bit of your time today and your expertise you guys are in the islands you have a really do have a feel for the beautiful white and we will we will talk again soon okay we're talking with thank you hello hi all right hello I'm a lot hello guys well you know I don't there's this this happens quite often I hear you somebody like this and you see I think to myself you know why didn't I think of that if somebody like you mark ha well you guy and traveled you know right right have a website and hang out and sit on the beach and come up with great thoughts could you could share with people in regards to the islands anyway well congratulations to them and and I've been poking around on that website since this interview and is all kinds of cool state what they're really nice guys and they have they they have some great stuff and like they'll throw out a question or something that is that sometimes they'll get two or three hundred responses we must have and the responses come in like really fast and so they must have a huge following so Hawaii sometime next week the governor is going to get office trainee and and let something out so it kind of seems to be full disclosure that interview was that a couple days ago we think now it's looking pretty strongly like July the fifteenth for at least some type of arrivals maybe August first for the get everybody back on board I'm Tom I wanted to share something here since when are smarter traveler segment we have just a minute I want to share something we've talked about this before on the program about a way to save money when renting cars to rent them off airport because when your rental airport location you pay a concession fee basically the car rental company's paying the airports the money to do business there and they're charging it to you so generally it's ten twelve sometimes as much as fifteen percent there may be a little bit higher taxes port location so what some people do is they come in they get in the airport shuttle bus or walk to an airport hotel they spend the night and then the next day they will get the car sometimes saving themselves a day car rental and if they pick it up in an off airport location that is sometimes met serious additional savings however the airports are getting wise to this because so many people are doing it so now the airports are saying to the car rental companies if you intentionally or even unintentionally divert business from us in this method we are going to raise your we're gonna come back and get the money from you so the car rental companies now in a price as a rule in Salt Lake City that if you arrive within twenty four hours by air and you rented at a downtown location off airport location you are charged the airport concession fee if you take a shuttle bus if.

"Five foot pain we can help the good feet store online a good feet dot com building a better Sacramento news ninety three point one K. F. B. K. on fifteen thirty A. M. and your heart radio app it's time for just one man's opinion Markoff thank you Thomas life is all about travel start to finish let's face it everyone's life begins with that same one way ticket from mama into the world it all unfolds from there and the good bad or otherwise you're on your way all human life starts with a journey the journey at least the travel part of it has literally and figuratively gotten a little tougher lately not many planes are flying or trains are riding the rails so your options are sort of limited you can't even go to Canada and if you did you could get back for at least a month we're a bit spoiled by our ability at least up until now to journey around the planet it's something we perhaps have taken for granted which brings us to Memorial Day tomorrow I'm proud to live in Rancho Cordova were flags line Folsom Boulevard this weekend and will again July the fourth in a small way it helps create a sense of community as a city Rancho Cordova rises the salute our country Vietnam was the war of my generation I miss serving in it by about twenty minutes literally we all marched in his seniors in high school and registered for the draft but before anyone was drafted that year the war had ended perhaps because of my close call I've always had the deepest of respect for those of us who have served our country as a student of history it's not lost on me that it is because of the sacrifices made by many Americans in generations before me I have many many freedoms thank you for your service have a wonderful Memorial Day perhaps join me and take.

"Man's opinion Markoff the big picture according to the cruise line the travel industry is much like the rest of corporate America the company said the top dictating the rules of the game for example the big ocean going cruise lines carnival Norwegian and royal Caribbean own Morse most of the brands you are familiar with they have affected Lee eliminated much of their competition by buying them out here's a big picture important point none of those companies chips our flag in the United States carnival is Panama row Caribbean is let Liberia Norwegian says Bermuda is at home there are two very attractive reasons to do this taxes and access to cheap labor a two thousand and nine United Nations reports as owners often register their ships under a foreign flag in order to quote employee seafarers from developing countries with lower wages let me translate that for you people from third world countries work a lot cheaper another big picture Costa cruise lines would rather you not know about unlike American companies corporations that operate foreign flag vessels do not pay taxes in the United States that's according to an NBC news report from last April one let's be fair here the cruise lines are responsible for about four hundred thousand American jobs which is a significant number but you wonder sometimes how many of them pay a living wage sorry I'm just trying to see the big picture so the cruise ship's flag themselves in foreign countries to avoid paying taxes in dealing with the U. S. system of hiring and firing in wages all the things US based companies have to deal with on a daily basis they compete I will suggest you unfairly against other legitimate vacation options no I'm very where there are many people out there who can't wait to start cruising again Hey whatever floats your boat but here's my real beef with the cruise lines you avoid taxes and regulation but now in the midst of a crisis you in your lobbyist or knock knock knocking on Congress's door with your hand extended hoping to carve out in the next round of relief for legitimate American businesses who play by the rules and pay taxes to support our system something for you I say shame on you cruise lines hopefully you will be excluded perhaps you should be knocking on doors in Panama Liberia or Bermuda oh and one last comment same department what do I those added for your convenience gratuities are part of your bill on a cruise ship it's because the cruise ships are making you pay making you subsidize their employees sub standard pay just so you know the big picture and that is just one man's opinion there you have it now tell us how you really feel mark again well all right you know I mean you got to you got some legitimate points and thank you for sharing my pleasure you know on this is the time time we usually make folks a try to make spoke to smarter traveler and things are opening up all over the place and some of our travel writer friends are pointing out something that really is important you might not think about some of these places that have been closed when they re open don't have all the services that they had when they closed the parking lot may be open but the restroom door may not be the drinking fountain may not be turned on the concession stand may not be open in the case of Grand Canyon national park last week visitors to return after it opened last Friday worked there were dozens of people by seven thirty in the morning would made it into the parking out to the viewpoints except surprise the restrooms were not open there was only one bank of restrooms open in the entire park there were no concession stands there were no souvenir stands so there was no place to eat or buy anything or basically you could come enjoy the beauty of the park but if you hadn't brought water or food or something like that if for those who are not if not familiar with it the Grand Canyon has some cut some services up at the canyon and then it's noon an hour forty five minutes or an hour away from the canyon to get to the nearest services which are fairly sparse and then it's another hour hour and a half to get to wear down to the town of Williams or over the pager someplace that really is big enough to be able to accommodate you to have a meal or something so the at the point that I'm trying to make here is that the places that you're going to may not be ready for you yet they may be open quote open but not necessarily open for full service and then there's some other things to think about if you go to Y. as we've talked about before right now you can get you're going to go for fourteen days and unless you've got business there or something you can prove that you came for you're going to your hotel and you're staying there for two weeks and they're going to make sure that happens Maine has had a fourteen day quarantine on visitors from out of state and they have just extended it all the way through the month of June and into the month of July so this you know in in the summer in Maine is where people make their money so the fact that they're willing to shut that down tells me that they're really serious about this so you have to be careful you have to do your homework before you go some place and even something as innocuous as a restaurant you know is that if you're the kind of person Tom I know you're you're kind of person is a little more concerned about this stuff so you know before you if you're going to rest on the road how do you know what their protocols are how do you know that they're washing their hands and what they're doing and and do you know whether or not their county that they're in in the state has reached level whatever it is allowed to do such and such things or not so for traveler for right now those are the kinds of things if you're traveling or if you're thinking of traveling in the next couple months you need to be doing a little bit of homework and making sure that the places that you're going to are welcoming you and are really ready to provide the services that you might need when you get there and then and more than likely at least initially that will not be the case and it may be somewhat difficult to to find out all that information so like mark said do your homework use the internet I would imagine that most of the places will give you a run down as to what you're going to find and what you're not it's it's I tell you what you got to be self sufficient you gotta plan ahead you got to be ready to take stuff with you well if for example you just in in here on the west coast the that the coast of Washington state which is in full of beaches that you would lay on and get us the and that's to get a suntan necessarily but places where you could walk take the dog enjoy yourself Long Beach is a town in south western Washington which has more second homes for people who live in Oregon Washington than any other place it's on the ocean it's a beautiful spot the people in that town of Long Beach I basically told people from outside of their community we don't want you here we don't have any virus cases here and we know when you call that some of you will bring you know we don't want you we don't care that your second home is here don't come here and I mean if if if and if you didn't hear is the first time they'll give you show up they'll leave a nasty flyer on your windshield it says go home so I don't know how you mitigate that but it is something at least to consider if you're going to be traveling in the next couple of months very good now right we.

"John Owens bar Markoff in merry band of elves my guest tonight on the program and we were talking about of most notable stories most memorable stories and Mary I know you said I know we have to go to news but I really have to mention this that the most important thing about my career so far is well I didn't say about my career I. I'm I'm making sure you you can go home tonight and. my husband's out of town. but he's still listening but yes of my first job in northern Wisconsin like I mentioned the W. B. W. way I met my husband Paul L. A. dated two other guys there first. Riley asked me how they were only men there there was one other girl he was dating her and she is the reception at all. leather jacket but we want to. hello so yeah so anyway and how many and how many thirty almost thirty five years in all three kids and your. very easy love you we love you Steve alright I have to ask each of you your your days are are so different I noticed some of you work at that you're up at two in the morning others of you work until midnight that's gonna be you tonight by the way others work a little bit more of a normal shift but just not doing what and everyday reporter might do so I want you each to walk me through like what it what a typical day would be better by Mr with you because I just always that this was so cool you work and the I team with Chuck Audi what's a typical day like for you and do people just randomly soppy used you and say okay I got a store like a doctor you know and at a party they always say how can you just look at this is this is this yeah that's where we get some of our best stories do you yes because people know that at least I hope they know they can trust me and so some of the best stories that we've done come from you know sources of people that you know in the city that you either grew up with went to college with who are now in positions where they're saying wrong doing and so you know we've had many many stories brought to us that way and I'm always happy to listen I mean sometimes that's why I go meet friends for coffee yeah that's where you hear stories about things that are going on that shouldn't be right so at a typical day I mean my hours are very unusually good for for news I can usually work you know nine to six but you know I'm up in the morning checking the news Chuck is already emailed us and numerous in our story ideas and you know what the source calls in the middle of the night or on the weekend of course I'm answering those calls so you know you're always kind of on call right but we there's a morning meeting at nine AM that you know some of us go to we make sure there's always somebody there from the I team and then we kind of just get going on our day I've always got a couple projects that I'm working on long term investigations but then we do a six o'clock you know kind of quick investigation every day so are these are busy you know we're running out getting interviews. kind of looking ahead at what's going on for the rest of the week trying to plant out you know when we can actually get our investigations on I work on a team with two other producers and then shock and a photographer and an editor so you know we've got the luxury of having a really nice sized team and management who you know supports us in kinda lets us do you what we're good at you deserve a greeting you're so respected in the industry for what you do and we thank you for that because you know there's a there's a lot of reporters and producers who wouldn't go to the links that you do to to be accurate and to make sure that you know all the I's are dotted and all the teaser cross sell I know I speak for many in Chicago who think that thank you but I think it is very cool a story that you follow could take a day or could take months it just depends on what the topic is yeah I mean we've had stories that you know you work on for a year until it's ready to go and I would say you know most recently there was a story that we covered for a couple of years a serial rapist to own a tanning salon in the west loop and the amount of hours that we put into investigating and spin offs surveilling him and getting court documents and getting women to trust us to to tell their story it you know it took hours and hours and days and months and you know he was convicted in is set is spending the next eight years of his life in jail and it was a it draining story emotionally because we would go to every court hearing you know talk talk to the victim's yak to the victims and then you know it's also an odd situation when the when the person knows who you are it was uncomfortable like he would give me dirty looks and court and I would have to you know go up to his attorney and let him know and you know that that you have a connection with these people. whether you like it or not because you're covering them for you know years and so that was it that was a story that again our management allowed us to to follow from beginning to end and was really gratifying when when justice was served yeah it's a team effort great job merry typical day for you well I know you're out there where you're at that with two or three three thirty I get up I'm here by four thirty just start checking the traffic and getting all the commercials together for the day and there's a lot of that involved now it seems like with Rita Marshall's because traffic is sponsored a traffic central is sponsored and it's you know a lot of sponsoring of everything so got to get that all organized in the checking my maps checking all the information start doing traffic at five and I'm part of the morning show with Steve Cochran's morning show I've heard him yes member him I do as we used to have so much fun we really get it when I started it she in the same year you were a couple months ahead of me yeah when I was started six months ahead in ninety seven yeah yes all god and number two I don't search spring chart and a lot of shows together it's you were news for a while he's in the news for awhile kind of. we moved over here we had different adjustments we had to make yeah yeah I had to do more traffic and work till noon doing traffic so you know in the traffic is change so much and I'm sure they were gonna get into that later but yeah from the way we do it now on the computer you know we used to have a huge traffic map at the old WGL sure in the first are there that was the coolest thing ever and it lit up and the roads with red red flashlights when it was busy and then yellow and green when it was clear and so I had to excuse me virtually look up to see which one is right what is I did I had a Crick in my neck the entire day because I was I got the Eisenhower let me see him and so much of what you do you don't read and I'm not just saying this because we're friends I it's just you don't realize how good you are until you hear other people trying to do traffic and you do it so succinctly and so clearly and you don't you don't just you worked where worked it doesn't stop here WGN you leave here and people here you elsewhere too because you're very successful voice over artist too yes like I do voiceovers on the side a lot of yeah I have my own little studio at home so yeah I can do some corporate videos the learning how to use yeah now commercial stuff too so yeah it's it's fun that's that's like my fun part that that's what I like to do do you do it correctly just yet traffic yeah either traffic for some kind of what you got the voice for the I would be very successful in this business. VDV boys dot com John it's typical day for you to you work on two very cool shows the writer could decades right with dell right so I work for why the production yeah which that they're the parent company for C. W. twenty six W. C. R. U. but I primarily work on shows for the decades network other one short work on is through the decades with bill Kurtis which is a daily almanac show it to look at events in history as it happened on a specific date utilizing some fascinating old CBS footage from the fifties all the way up to the you know the mid twenty first century maybe twenty five twenty six at the latest story we've done is like twenty thirteen and you know I I have yet compared to barb in Mary bankers hours I work from nine to five doing the you know it occasional interview either in studio or on location for that show and then also I work on another show for me TV which runs on Sundays at nine nine PM called collectors call collectors call and roll kind just. it was with you was an appraiser on a show that will air in twenty twenty in spring twenty twenty use an appraiser for some James Bond memorabilia the premise of the show is we visit a collector each week shows off his or her collection and we have a an appraiser come in and the praise of the you know seven or eight most interesting items and then they offer trade at the end John you need to come to my basement because I have so much stuff. but to be a guest on all this be specific like you know Elton Jim who fills in here is he is a young John he thought our show has he really doesn't have to be okay so much eighty stuff I have like bangles they'll.
