"Yeah, I think when we did our research back in June with the ACC, the synopsis was that it would be difficult to replace some of those guys Brad mentioned in Kenny Pickett and Jordan Addison who apparently is not liking life on the West Coast right now, but Addison had a 25% target share. And then you even lose Mark Whipple who's a pass happy OC and I just think the offense is going to undergo a dramatic change here because you're looking at a unit that was 6th in EPA per pass among power 5 teams. You look at the construction of this roster and Brad mentioned the 5 returning starting offensive lineman. That was a group that finished 19th and adjusted line yards. The running back room is really deep with a banna canda. He's got the potential to be pretty dynamic there. And you pair those things with the new OC Frank Cigna. And you have this educated idea that Pittsburgh's offense is going to operate substantially different. Eddie was at Boston college last year. And I know fill your COVID only played 6 games. Many of them less than a 100%. So this is a bit skewed. Then you had Dennis garcelle who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, but on standard downs alone, Boston college last season called runs at a 73% rate of the 6th highest in the country all downs. BC ran at 60% of the time. When you look at his background, Dave wants dead disciple, the guy who put Ricky Williams in touch with marijuana basically because he ran him into the ground so much. So that's kind of the offense that I'm thinking we're going to see here. Certainly there's some weapons. Jared Wayne is nice. Gavin Bartholomew is good. You get the Akron transfer and mom field. But this is just a brand new quarterback and Keaton slova is completely different system. It's going to be a pro style run first team and ultimately that's the one thing that may hinder my ability. Pittsburgh's clearly the side. We've seen it go through the 7. My number is shockingly 11 and a half. You just wonder if this new scheme, this new style. Where in our doozy loves playing these one score games, he gets back into that vibe. It makes me a little bit nervous there in terms of laying it at this point over a touchdown, even though my number is substantially higher here. And I think when you look at something like this, the total was a little more interesting to me at open 55 and a half came down to 54. Got all the way down to 15 and a half. We saw him move back to 52 yesterday and then it came down again just all key numbers going on here with the total. An interesting thing from that perspective. I'm not sure what we're going to see from Pittsburgh's offense. That necessarily says, hey, we're going to score a ton of points here where we care about covering spreads. That's my only fear here now at over a touchdown, even though our numbers are a little bit higher. Well, you mentioned our doozy and Cigna. I mean, I think it'll be music to fill our pat's ears, given the war of words we saw this off season with Mark Whipple. He may want to try and run the ball 95% of the time and treat it like an option offense if he gets his wish. You guys both kind of mentioned quarterback play here. And I think it's fascinating when you try and figure out what two USC transfers can look like. JT Daniels hits third stop to lead this West Virginia offense, had a truncated camp, wasn't able to work with the offense. You'd imagine that group operates and fits and spurts. All the buzz is that Keaton slovis has popped back in his ball, the velocity was there when he went to the Manning camp. Brad, when you look at JT Daniels, we know pain is the torch bearer for the stetson Bennett fan club, so he was thrilled that JT never got a shot down there in Athens. How do you expect him to lead Neil brown's offense when you consider how big a disappointment it's really been watching the mountaineers over the last couple of seasons as it pertains to? Obviously there's some familiarity there with harrell coming over being the new OC who recruited JTT and he ran that offense back at USC. But with that being said, I don't like JT Daniels. I don't. I don't like the arm strength. There's really nothing on film that has ever given me positive vibes decision making, the fact that he couldn't beat out stetson Bennett after a couple of years. I think pretty much says all it needs to be said about JT Daniels. I know a lot of people in West Virginia are thinking clear upgrade. Yeah, sure, I think he's a little bit of an upgrade over what they had in the last couple of years with degi a quarterback, but I don't think it's significant upgrade. It's another reason why my numbers agree with pain. And I'm over ten points here as far as a pure power rating. It's amazing that West Virginia fans think it'll be an upgrade, and you can understand why when Jared dagi can't even win the starting job at western Kentucky. I think he's entered the transfer portal for the 37th time, but no doubt. An iconic matchup that I think everyone in college football is excited to see back on the schedule to kick things off. And the final question I have for you Brad on this particular game. I know you come things with a very different perspective than pain and I and it's a big part of why we wanted to include you in the fold. Is this a game where you've taken a position at some of the previous numbers? I mean, I'm judging by the dialog between you guys. Suffice to say both of you have made a compelling case for Pittsburgh, but obviously at prices that probably no longer so I don't have that significant bankroll that pain has with the condos and three different states and whatnot. Very few do Brad, very few do. So you and I, we can share a common affliction on this. I'm okay taking some early numbers at some lower limits. I did I'm probably a little bit overexposed and probably got a little too much more than I'm comfortable with on pit, but I laid 5, late 6, late 7. Also took a little bit of a piece of the under under 54. At the current numbers though, I agree with pain. I'm not super confident at laying anything more than 7 points with Pittsburgh, just because maybe a non need. First off, in our doozy is not a guy that I typically want to lay points with period. I'm not sure how aggressive they're going to be. As far as really wanting to cover this spread and getting margin. Should be a great game to watch. No doubt as we remind all of you are loyal listeners if you're late to the game and the first time you're breaking down some of the marquee matchup. If you missed the number, it is a marathon, not a sprint. So don't lay the worst of it. From the backyard. I don't want to go backwards. But here we go. Brad mentioned one thing that was really interesting to me that we probably should elaborate on just a little bit more specific to the total. We think Keaton's slovis is a little bit better than the market may think he is.

"And probably good red zone defense. By limiting some of those big plays, you know, you're going to be right there in hanging in that game with a shot to win. If you ran Nebraska, let's say your trev alberts here, the athletic director at Nebraska. At what point do you think, and I still think there's high hopes for Nebraska, all those transfers, so maybe they figure this out. But if they don't, at what point could you see them or would you make a change at the head coaching position? You know, it's interesting question. And we talked about this this morning on Fox Sports radio and one of the things I kind of posed was if the transfer pool existed when Scott frost first took over. How fast would he be able to change over the roster to what he was looking for because you really couldn't for the first couple of years, a few years he was there and I think part of that is, you know, he's got equity within the university because of what he did as a player. But not so much what he's done as a coach. And that's why he's kind of on that leash right now with all the staff changes he made, offensively coming into the year and now Mark Whipple turning over taking over and you find yourself in a position where if you could turn it over faster, would they would we be talking about Nebraska a little bit different? I mean, you know, Palma, for example, the other transfer wide receiver both had big games. They're a big part of the game plan. Offensively, Casey Thompson looked phenomenal in the first half. All those things, you're looking for us in this transfers to help kind of create that change. They're there. It's just going to take time. It's tough. You know, I hate, you know, first off, I love Scott frost. You know, I think anyone has sat down with them and talked to them about ball. You like his demeanor. You understand where he's coming from. I just think that job is a lot harder than people realize coming into it. You know, very similar to Jim Harbaugh, it's taken over in Michigan. I think people act like he was taking over the job from Lloyd Carr.

"Time for your phone calls here. Brain goal in for Paul at Braden Gaul on Twitter, your phone calls. John in Atlanta, your first up John. Welcome to the Paul fine bomb show. How are you? I'm good. Thanks for getting me out here. So I was just wondering what your thoughts are on the Big Ten west and the pairing of Casey Thompson and the new offensive coordinator. Yeah, that's a great question. I appreciate the call there. I love a good Nebraska phone call. I think Thompson has got a chance to be the answer at quarterback. I think the offense is going to be interesting. I think that the west is incredibly balanced for the Big Ten. I think Wisconsin, Iowa, both dangerous because you kind of know what they are. They're going to have great defenses. They're going to have really solid running games. And we're going to have major questions about the quarterback situation. I don't know how much balance either Wisconsin or Iowa are going to have on offense. So you kind of know what you're getting out of them. I think Purdue is sneaky good this year. I know they had to replace George Carlos and David bell. They're two best players outside of 8 O'Connell. They're returning starting quarterback. But I think Purdue host Penn State in week one, I would not be surprised if Purdue wins that game. And sets the stage for a pretty cool season in West Lafayette. I think Purdue is going to be very dangerous. Do they have enough horses to over an 8 over a 12 game schedule to be better than Iowa or Wisconsin? Maybe even Minnesota. I think they're pretty dangerous. I don't know, but I like Purdue. I think they're sneaky good. So where does Nebraska fit into all of this? Would they lose like 7 games with by one score last year, something crazy like that? Adrian Martinez, how many years have we waited for Adrian Martinez to be a start, Nebraska, and now he's at Kansas state? So Casey Thompson, it's on you, man. It's on Casey Thompson to step in. He showed some flashes of Texas from time to time. They transfers in. And so the question is, does Scott frost have any because the defense is what did him did such a good job last year? The defense is the one who held Oklahoma to nothing and almost gave him a chance to beat Ohio State. So Mark Whipple comes in, Casey Thompson comes in, you've got two new pieces, Scott frost is less involved in the offense. This is a pretty, I don't know if there's a coach in America who is more on the hot seat than Scott frost. And here's my problem, John trying to give you a prediction for Nebraska. Because I think the parity in the west is really interesting, really fun, really dramatic. And I think Nebraska is at the bottom end of the Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue conversation. I think Nebraska is at the bottom end of that. I think they could

"Meant as a veiled cheap shot to a lot of our loyal listeners. And that fine Hamlet of football history. But Mark Whipple comes in from Pittsburgh to take over as the offensive coordinator. Nebraska parts ways of Adrian Martinez who heads off to Kansas state in the transfer portal. In steps Casey Thompson from Texas to hopefully stabilize the quarterback position. We know Thompson dealt with a thumb injury last year, but still finished with over 2100 yards and a 24 to 9 touchdown interception ratio, leading Steve sarkisian's offense. His numbers under pressure at Texas though weren't nearly as good as what Adrian Martinez was able to produce when he was constantly under duress. Using his mobility to extend place and try to make something out of nothing. In my opinion pain, that could be a harbinger of things to come, knowing that this offensive line has a lot more questions to answer than I think known commodities we have for big red going into the season. Ton of new faces on offense. And Casey Thompson transfers in from Texas, you have the new OC and Mark Whipple coming over from pet Whipple hires, a new receivers coach, a new passing game coordinator, O line coach running backs coach. I'm not sure Casey Thompson's an elite thrower, but if you watch the very first pass of Nebraska's spring game, you're like, ah, Adrian Martinez could not have made that throw. I also like the way Thompson carries himself. He is a pro in his behavior, not going to turn it over as much. He does have some mobility, but not as much as Martinez, but if last season is any indication, Nebraska has to figure out how to keep Casey clean because if you look at his splits, they are drastic.

"You look at the 2022 headline stats, you're talking about a defense that surrendered less than 20 points per game created 30 turnovers 25 of which were interceptions. 31 sacks as a team. And 25 and a half of those sacks returned this season, finished 13th nationally and scoring defense, 8th in yards for rush 14th in yards for past ten 7th and yards per play, 16th in total defense. And when you look at what this team has done overall, since 2015, there are a 117 interceptions, the most in power 5 on a 168 takeaways, second only to Alabama. So you imagine if Iowa actually had an offense with a pulse, how good this team could be. But defensively, this is how they've built winning seasons in the past and no reason, at least for me to believe that Iowa takes a massive step back on this side of the ball. Yeah, I mean, there's only going to be varying degrees of awesome for iOS defense. And you mentioned Phil Parker, he just keeps producing and his defense is the identity of Iowa's program right now. Only one offensive opponent finished a game with a positive expected points at it against Iowa last season. It was a top ten defense in most of the vital defensive metrics. Now, turnover regression is coming after leading the nation with 25 picks and creating 30 total turnovers. That turnover look is why Iowa ranked number two last season heading into the Purdue game. And impossible to replicate that. The entire 2D along the defensive line returns for IO except one man. That's a decent size lost. He graded out the best player and I was defense last season. Now, his replacement is Joe Evans a senior. Evans actually had more sacks and hits than van Vulcan in 337 less snaps. You mentioned Lucas van Ness. He is expected to be the next star pass rusher at Iowa. Let's see with more snaps. If that comes to fruition. Jack Campbell, I was leader in the middle of the defense returns, Riley moss is the horse in the secondary. He's back Jeremiah Harris won the starting job late last season. He'll start opposite moss. One serious question mark is at free safety with Dane belton gone drafted in the fourth round. You have a walk on in Quinn Schultz, penciled in as the starter. But here's where things get interesting because my guess is at some point the 5 star freshman in early enrollee Xavier Juan pa takes over the starting free safety spot. And if he's as good as advertised, there might not be as much drop off as somewhat expect. The schedule of offenses are top heavy, that Iowa faces, but overall, not too daunting. Sure, you get like an elite FCS offense in South Dakota state out of the shoot. Ohio State will vie for the top offense in the country in Michigan should be a top 20 offense. Maybe even better. But outside of those three, there's not an offense on the remaining schedule that's going to keep you up at night. But because of how poor Iowa's offense is, we only have the Hawkeye's favorite in 7 games. Two toss ups at Purdue and Minnesota that are winnable as well. But the market win number is very much in line with what we're projecting Todd. And when you kind of factor in the vague with our number, we're at like 0.1 games off. That's how right this number is. Yeah, not a lot of wiggle room then. On a win total that's going to be that reflective of how you guys view the hawkeyes coming into the season. When you look at Iowa's schedule, first four manageable in the grand scheme of things, three home dates, headline by that date against Iowa state that we always see the second week of the season or so it feels like they'll go on the road for the first time to take on Rutgers and then you look at the smattering of games that they'll play. Let's say that this is the year that the Big Ten schedule not all that forgiving when you consider their two crossover games into the east, you get Michigan at home and you go on the road to Ohio State. So they'll have their work cut out for them not only to eclipse that wind total, but if they're to repeat as Big Ten west champions. From the Iowa Hawkeye to arguably one of their bigger rivals, at least Nebraska fans would lead you to believe so I'm sure Iowa looks at them like little brother. The cornhuskers, 20 to one to win the Big Ten in Scott frost, taking a pay decrease to try and go out there and prove his merits under trev Albert's leadership. There are three to one to win the Big Ten west and when you look at Nebraska, their win total sits at 7 and a half over minus a dollar, 30. You always have to wonder how much longer Scott frost will have to turn this program around. No winning seasons for him thus far since arriving in Lincoln, compiling a record of 15 and 29. He's lost ten of 11 to Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, the last league title for the corn huskers came back in 1999. This team did lose 8 games last year by a single possession so much is made of, hey, this team finished three and 9, but outscored their opponents, but somewhere along the way. And I know regression typically balance out pain. I have to believe when you lose one score games, you're consistently outclassed on special teams. You are who they say you are, and it's rare that we highlight a lot of special teams deficiencies, but Nebraska. One 29th out of a 130 in special teams efficiency index, and that was a direct indicator of why this team struggled so much in those one score games and to go win less in conference. How surprising is this for you? Very, very, I mean, we talked about it in the ACC. I thought Justin fuente was going to be a good hire at Virginia tech. I thought they made the right choice there, recruiting fell off the table. This one, when it was talked about in terms of what direction Nebraska was going to go and felt like an absolute slam dunk because Scott frost was going to be able to step into an environment and revolutionize offense in the Midwest that we hadn't really seen. The thing I guess hindsight always being 2020, maybe it's a lot more difficult to recruit to Nebraska and Lincoln now than it was in the past when Tom Osborne was competing for national titles and you just don't always have the pieces to try and bring that level of athlete that Scott frost probably took for granted when he was at UCF. You know this. I don't have much time in football season to do. Interviews. But I have a special place in my heart for Nick bah. And I remember going on his radio show when frost was hired. And I looked at the division landscape. And I said, by the end of year two, this could be preeminent team in the west. And by year three, he's going to be winning divisions. This is so shocking to me. I have no idea what's transpired or what's gone on. I'm at a loss for words, but we can pick this up wherever you would like offense defense. Too much is too much extracurricular activities for Scott frost. Maybe he's just got to stay in the football facility and try and get this program where it needs to go, but let's talk about the offense because I think this is a more interesting. There's no doubt about that. Yeah. As we know, lane kiffin was able to use that in parlay into a better opportunity, but the talent significantly different off the field in Orlando than what you're going to get in Lincoln, Nebraska, not meant as a veiled cheap shot to a lot of our loyal listeners. And that fine Hamlet of football history. But Mark Whipple comes in from Pittsburgh to take over as the offensive coordinator. Nebraska

"Welcome to Friday as we get ready for the first weekend in May. It's Derby weekend. Not a lot of other major events. There's a lot of baseball and softball. We'll talk about all that. We'll also talk about the latest from the college sports world, most of the coming from Washington, D.C., we begin with some headlines. What is going on? College leaders in D.C.. Urging the NCAA urging Congress to do so. I mean, Congress has had a busy week in case DNC in case college football in college athletic leaders haven't been paying attention. Dan wetzel was here yesterday and he had this to say. I think everyone's flipping out and I just don't know what bad has happened. Do I feel for the pick fan that lost their wide receiver? Sure. Sure. But you know what else happened at Pitt? Offense coordinator, Mark Whipple left for Nebraska for more money, position coach, wide receiver coach, left for Texas for more money. It went and got a wide receiver from Akron, brought him in. Nobody had a problem with any of that. Player wants to leave. Everyone's slipping out. This is just how it's going to be. And I don't know that there was a way to legislatively solve this before. They didn't try. They fought terrible legal arguments. They lost every case. They ignored the legislatures that slowly passed laws against them. Really don't think there's a way to stop it now. Meanwhile, there's some other news from the transfer portal. That will be a theme of this day. How about Arizona state? Landing Emory Jones from Florida. Why is that interesting? Remember, they lost a quarterback tail as you. Paul Tyson, the great grandson of Paul Bryant, transferred out there with the expectation of possibly being the starter and here comes Emory Jones from Florida. Meanwhile, this is a big weekend in Alabama. The Alabama sports Hall of Fame and we are paying tribute today to any conyers. He has called us many times. He's 90. How old is he? 93 years, always winning the pig House award, the great Alabama sportsman. And many others are going into the Alabama sports Hall of Fame this weekend and we will talk to talk about some of that later though. The great debates, we've had quite a week here talking about Manning and Woodson, CFP, versus the BS, the BCS. But the main thing to be got a lot of conversation, especially from.

"Quarterbacks, always a major storyline in the draft, but the position lost some momentum this year, only one quarterback taken round one. Kenny Pickett taking 20th overall to the Steelers. Mel kiper junior, you like Pickett being the first QB off the board? Well, it's a pickle at the same grade. They were right there on the board at the same spot. Think about the Mark Whipple. Mark Whipple coach Ben Roethlisberger when he was a rookie playing right away and the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl Mark Whipple coach Kenny Pickett. They know more about Kenny picked than anybody playing a Heinz field. Sometimes you know somebody so well, you maybe don't take them because you find something wrong. They didn't do everything about Kenny Pickett and they loved it. They took them credit to the organization in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kevin Colbert. They did all their due diligence. They know him better than everybody else. And now he's the quarterback. He goes across the hall, Desmond Ritter, the next port of act drafted all the way round three to the falcons, the other quarterback for Atlanta, Marcus Mariota. Here's Ritter on his excitement, going to Atlanta. They're going to get everything out of me. They're going to get a Super Bowl out of me. They're going to get someone who comes in and works hard every single day. First one in last one out. And you know, I'm not leaving their target. I get a Super Bowl. Mina, you like this pick by the falcons? I do. I love it. So here's the thing. Look at their whole team as a whole. You got Drake London, big bodied physical wide receiver next to Kyle Pitts, who's obviously incredibly strong and fast as well. And now you've got a quarterback who is aggressive inside the pocket, but can also do designed runs really well outside of it. If you squint hard enough, it's kind of the Tennessee Titans and you see the vision that Arthur Smith is building in Atlanta, finally. Oh, I love it. At Malik Willis had to drop them. We didn't see coming. He was drafted by Tennessee in the third round with the 86th overall pick. Dan, you predicted a quarterback to Tennessee, ends up being Willis. Yeah, and I think it makes a lot of sense for both him and the team. Number one, the team scheme is built upon quarterback movement. Getting guys outside of the pocket fully halfway and then the play action game. That's a maliko strength. I also love the fact that they do have Ryan Tannehill, and he doesn't have to get on the field right now and try to win and develop at the same time. And I love the fact that their head coach and general manager are securing their jobs. So they're not going to feel the pressure to run him on the field and prove to ownership. We've got this young player save our jobs. It's a really ideal fit for both player and organization. On to Carolina, many projected a quarterback to them with the 6th overall pick. They waited until number 94 to draft almost quarterback Matt corral Todd is this a good fit? Hello, it's a good value. I can tell you that getting corral in the third round. I don't know about the fit though, honestly. This year, Sam darnold, to me, will provide more than Matt coral could as a rookie. And then moving forward, I would much rather have traded up 9 spots and gotten ahead of where Malik Willis was coming off the board and take him then, where the Tennessee Titans took him 8 picks ahead of where they took Matt corral. To me, having a situation where Malik Willis could come in and be the guy in the future and you have one more year with Sam Sam darnold. That makes all the sense in the world to me. Carell, yeah, good value fit. I don't see him as a future star in the league though. Dan, the cameras over there. What are you doing over there? I'm swinging. Yeah, just my through. That's a good point. So you're right now. Oh my goodness. They might need you. All right, we got a lot more coming your way on NFL live. We're gonna get back to the breaking news the date. Total mess. Tyron Matthew heading home to New Orleans. We'll explain how that fit makes sense. Also the news around Deandre Hopkins being suspended for 6 games. Where do the Cardinals go from there? Adam Schefter rejoins with the latest. I'm bullish on the saints, ready? Okay. We're back on NFL live with breaking news today. Adam Schefter here, let's begin with the story around the saints agreement with tyron Matthew. Well, they've agreement in place right now, Laura, a three year $33 million contract that includes $18 million guaranteed the language is still being finalized. The deal is yet to be signed, but it is expected to be signed. And honey badger will come home to New Orleans where he was born and raised in healthy a leader on that defense in the secondary, the saints visited with him about a month ago, went into the draft, hoping to get some safety help, didn't get it there. Obviously started back up talks with tyron Mattel and they'll get that deal done here this week before much time three years, 33 million in the big news today. Of course, Deandre Hopkins suspended 6 games for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy. He is withdrawn his appeal. The suspension stands he will be allowed to go through the pre season, but he will be out for the first 6 games, which matches the amount of time that he missed at the end of last season with a knee injury earlier in the year. He had an ankle injury and over the course of the first 8 years of his career, he missed only one game. But last year, the absences started piling up and now they will continue into the 2022 season Hopkins will miss the first 6 games for violating the league's PED policy. Yeah, and Adam as we set up the top of the show, Kyler Murray, a very different quarterback with and without Hopkins, as many quarterbacks would be. Dan, as you hear what's going on with Deandre Hopkins, you think about the cardinal situation, the money that they may need to pay Kyler Murray, what comes to mind? Green Bay? The packers should call Arizona. That's what I would do. So I set this on last week when the Hollywood Brown trade went down on NFL live, I said, how are they going to pay Hollywood Brown? Who are they going to? Because of the contract or because of the trade, they're going to pay Kyler Murray and find a way to redo Deandre Hopkins. You're not going to be able to do all three. And if I'm Arizona, I'm sitting here going, I lose Deandre Hopkins for a third of the season. This is a way for me to find a way to get your money off of my books. And if I'm Green Bay, and I could take a draft pick and send it to Arizona, now is contract, I think, is like 18 million this year, so that's a big number, but I don't need you for the first 6 games. I'm in the playoffs because the conference is weak. I want that difference maker receiver. And now it becomes a completely different conversation about Green Bay. So if I was Green Bay, I would be calling Arizona to see what would it cost to get Deandre Hopkins, and if I was Arizona, I would be thinking long and hard about making that deal. Wow, I mean, I'll look at this from the Cardinals kind of point of view to do that sort of deal with one of the few contenders in the NFC would basically being or conceding rather that they don't think they're going to be a playoff team. This season, honestly. And I don't think given the head coach being on a hot seat, frankly. Obviously they were extended, but that doesn't really mean much these days. They'd be willing to do that. I thought I had about the cardinals, though, ever since Adam broke the news at the beginning of the show is when cliff Kingsbury came in, everyone expected.

I mean, it's happened, but that takes some real work on the franchise's behalf and we'll probably be back here a year from now talking about the same thing. But I do wonder, though, because. What happened at the combine, I guess is what I'm asking, that really should change this. Yes, so he's fast. He does this well. He does that well, but still, and by the way, we don't know who Jackson was going to take. We just think we know. Yeah. At the end of the day, I think what we do need to remember and kind of take a step back in this whole process, is that none of these kids getting drafted tonight or throughout the entirety of this draft are finished products. Trayvon walkers 21 years old and we do have to remember that. He's got a lot of football out ahead of him. And what we've seen now certainly he has the size. He has the physical tools. He has the measurables, things that you need to help you be successful at the next level. If you're Doug Peterson the head coach Jacksonville or bulky, the GM, and you believe you can get this guy, the coaching. Set him up in a situation in Jacksonville across the guy like Josh Allen, who's an outstanding pass rusher on the other side of the field, this could be the guy. This could be a piece and only a piece because as you referenced two years in a row they're picking first, they were three and 14 this year. Trayvon walker is not going to be the answer. Trevor Lawrence last year, obviously, was not the answer alone. They're going to get Travis Etienne back on the field this year. He missed the entire season last year because of injuries. So you're drafting the potential of a Trayvon walker. If in fact, he ends up being that first pick. There's a lot to love about him too. His father was a marine and instilled in him. A lot of work ethic and discipline. He's self motivated. You do not have to drag Trayvon walker out of bed to get him to the gym at 5 a.m.. He wants to be great. He's quiet, but when he gets on the field, he flips a switch. He's extremely competitive. He's won everywhere he's been in high school. He played on a basketball team that won 71 straight games. And he's versatile. He can play defensive end defensive tackle. He can spy the quarterback. There's a lot to love about Trayvon walker. He absolutely should be a first round pick. You can see why certain teams fall in love with guys, and that's another thing to remember. It doesn't need to be a consensus choice that 32 teams know this guy is the number one pick like we've seen with quarterbacks in years past. It takes one team to fall in love with you and it's sounding more and more like Jacksonville is doing that. They're falling in love with Trayvon walker. Jesse, before you go as a quarterback and you look at this class, which has come under some attack, another critic, which one stands out the most to you. It's interesting. It's probably the worst draft class since 2013 when EJ Manuel was the only first round quarterback taken with the 16th pick. I think the most pro ready is Kenny Pickett. I love his production, his accuracy throwing the ball downfield in pitch system. But I really love his film this past year and reading coverages in reading defense. Great film against Clemson, a tricky defense that confuses a lot of quarterbacks with their looks and their blitzes and how they change things up. Kenny Pickett was fantastic. The big question mark, though, with Kenny Pickett, he says he already reached his ceiling. He had an NFL quarterback coach throughout college and offensive coordinator Mark Whipple. He had an outstanding receiving group, his arm is arm talents a little bit above average. He's a better athlete. We give him credit for, but just how much better can he be? Versus a guy like Malik Willis, who's kind of the opposite. His physical ability is just completely off the charts and he has these wow throws in these highlight type plays. It reminds you of Michael Vick or Lamar Jackson. But he struggled in some of his biggest games the last two years at liberty. And you wonder how much time it'll take him to pick up a more complex. NFL offense. Again, it goes back to that intrigue question. If I had to guess, there's one or two quarterbacks that maybe go tonight. Being here in Vegas, putting my money on a guy and say it's probably Malik Willis, but that's just another one of the big question marks to think. We all have going into tonight. Jesse Palmer always great to talk to Jesse part of the coverage later tonight. We'll head to the break here. We have a number of coaches that will be dropping by from Luke fickle to Marcus Freeman. We open the program with a extraordinary conversation with Dan landing the defensive coordinator of the national champs. He's now the head coach in Oregon. You are listening to the Paul fine bomb Joe podcast. Back here in Las Vegas, hours before the draft. It's only 1247 here. It's lunchtime, but in four hours, this town will be lit, even though it will be bright sunshine for the NFL Draft Darryl is up next. We try him again. Hey, Paul. What's up, Darrell? You know what? Jesse Palmer is not the smartest person in the world. I mean, after all, he did go to Florida, right? But I didn't hear him talking anything about Craig, Trayvon walker, back in February, at all. As a matter of fact, I hate to bring yourself, it's no dig on you, but if you remember, I called you up in February, I said, Paul, who do you think is going to be the first order player taking into draft? And you said, of course, Niko D I said, uh uh, I said watch, I barely tell you Trayvon walker will be the first Georgia player taking. Paul, I love it. People that get paid to do this kind of stuff. You know what I mean? And they interception and that national championship game, when we go across the step into the end zone, the guy behind him was Trayvon walker. When there's a big play in that game, trip I want the trade down at wide receiver to Alabama to get a first down. That got a trending down 20 yards down the field. Manifesto. Was treyvon walker. What's so crazy about that, Paul? Is that both of George's national championships? Over the base players on the field. Her short Trayvon. But I knew I told you, hey, that dude is fast, man, and he is the reason he didn't get all the numbers, like Palmer's somebody stashed all that. Well, if he played at Michigan, he would have. But he had to play with corridor. He had to play with Jordan Davis. He had to play with what? Adam Anderson was our lead site leader Paul when he got when he got kicked off the team. He's a linebacker, okay? He was leading the team in fact at that point. But Trayvon walker is without doubt. The real deal. And I know he's going to be the first Georgia player taking. Might be the first in a drab. That would be amazing. But that guy is definitely the real deal. One of them one more thing real quick. The day of landing interview. And I'm epic. Absolutely epic. Great guy. I don't know if you heard me earlier, but Kirby smart, you know, he never got a credit that the excitement gets, but Kirby came to Georgia and you compare that staff to the staff that he had when he wanted that championship, different offensive coordinator, different defensive coordinator, different offensive linemen, but you know, just impressive, but Dan man is going to do a great job in Oregon, but he ain't going to do a good enough job to beat us from the season stars. They forget to add. But anyway, Paul, great interview, tell you about..

"But I kind of agree with the question of where Eric is going because a lot of these guys are probably more ready to hit the ground running because of the reasons Eric said in his question than they were 15 years ago. But how much more better do they get? Usually marginal. All right, next question is from your old stomping ground in Atlanta, Georgia, Brian black. I used to in Bruce Pitt. Finally had a breakthrough season last year winning the ACC pit just extended head coach Patton or doozy, replaced Kenny Pickett with USC transfer Keaton slovis and competes in the easier coastal division. Penn State has had back to back underwhelming seasons just signed the number 6 recruiting class and gave head coach James Franklin a ten year coaching contract extension. Which will happen first. Pitt will make the CFP under narduzzi or Penn State hiring a new coach to replace Franklin. Okay, so I want to add something onto this. Early in the season last year, you were done with patent RGB. You had written him off and said, hit the bricks. Now what do you think? I mean, it was a phenomenal season, and I think now what we need to find out is how much of it was patent or doozy and how much of it was, you know, this is keen slow as necessarily going to do what, can you pick it did last year, Mark Whipple, The O.C. that helped produce that great season is gone. To me, whether Pitt has staying power remains very up in the air. That being said, James Franklin just signed this huge, huge contract, this ten year contract, and at least as of now seems like he'll be their coach for a long time. So I think this is a very tough choice. But I'm going to say, and also, given what I said about our Clemson earlier, there might be that there is a window right now for pit to make the college football playoff. That being said, I think I'm going to say that James Franklin scenario would happen before that. I just looked it up his buyout is $12 million right now, but it falls to $8 million. It's a substantial commitment by Penn State, but it's not that substantial a way to get out of if he were to fall on his face. And of course, what if he decides to bolt after all? These ten year contracts seem so. Okay, we don't have to talk about this anymore. And then, you know, one, two, three years into it, you're like, well, actually, it wouldn't cost that much to buy him out. Do we have time for one more? We do. All right, so I'm going to ask you this. You have become our NIL aficionado from David Los gatos, California. Last episode's two mentioned how and I all collectives are going to be a big deal for recruiting and even though USC as a school has a lot of money. It doesn't help in NIL or recruiting. Is there any restrictions on universities directly hiring and signing student athletes to NIL type promotion for the school? Schools using athlete's name image and likeness to promote ticket sales and merchandise, seems like a very natural fit. Alternatively, how can laws that enable NIL and being paid for work not inevitably result in directly paying players? Complicated question for the most part, I think most schools, first of all, there's a lot of state laws that flat out say a school can't get involved in Brooklyn. And I arranging an IL deals. Even in ones where there aren't the schools tend to be playing that conservatively, but I believe in California, there are some gray area about whether the schools can do that directly. I don't honestly know from talking to people at some of these universities and positions of authority. They interpret it as they could initiate. That's how I talked about it. But when you say initiate, I believe you mean initiate a deal for to endorse some third party company. What he is suggesting is the school is just flat out cut a check to their players to do an ad for ticket sales. That, I think, is a no no, because that would basically be pay for play. And that's very few restrictions, but that's one of them. And I think there's a pretty easy work around on that if you're going to say, hey, we have these big boosters who are going to spend, you know, again, I use the example of if you wanted Reggie Bush when he was a USC since that's since that was brought up since Daniel David had mentioned USC. If you have Reggie Bush and you have big boosters, Reggie Bush comes to your kid's birthday party and you pay them a hundred grand or the key is the boosters are paying them not the school. Yes, but let's not kid ourselves. It's like kind of just funneling the money through a different way. Right. Well, USC as of now does not have one of these NIL collectives. And it remains to be seen, whether that's going to put them at a disadvantage in recruiting against schools that do have those. I mean, based off of the news last week, Josh Connolly, a top West Coast offensive lineman, who's in this class, so he would be eligible to go to training camp this fall. He chose Oregon over USC, among other schools. Oregon has a very collective is basically Phil knight. I mean, he doesn't run the day to day of it, but he's definitely behind it. And they would definitely be in a position to make a big offer to a kid they really want. Great questions this week, guys. Great questions. Keep them coming. As always, you can send them to the audible pod at Gmail dot com. We'll see you next time..

"What a herculean task it's going to be for the college football betting guide folks. You've got to really navigate through all the coaching, moves, rumored and real head coaches, assistant coaches. "What a herculean task it's going to be for the college football betting guide folks. You've got to really navigate through all the coaching, moves, rumored and real head coaches, assistant coaches. Is there a de facto home game for some of these teams? Motivation, team settling for bowls, and then even if they are settling, how often is our psychiatric analysis correct, right? That's the other thing. I'll never forget when USC was playing here in Las Vegas. Basically living at the hard rock. And I remember everybody, the rumor going around, oh, you have to see their partying all night. They're in every club here at the. Oh, they're going to get crushed tomorrow. They roll. I want to say it was like Fresno state. Was it Fresno state? It was like, believe that it was Derek carved Fresno state no less. Maybe it was, yeah. They just destroyed him. I was like, oh, really? That club really had that effect. So it's tough, right? And then now we have the whole new layer of opt outs, which is the biggest thing, and we'll see how many people announce early. How many people announced late this? The Sam Howell thinks a great example where it's like, yeah I'll play I'll play I'll play. And then like week of, don't you think like somebody who's family is gonna be like, dude, you're going pro next year. Maybe you shouldn't play in this game. Like is it worth it? So you never know what this now? I think the biggest one to monitor is gonna be Kenny Pickett. Yeah. Because. Same deal, right? As we talked about yesterday, very well could be the first quarterback chosen. His offensive coordinator Mark Whipple took the Nebraska offensive coordinator job earlier this morning. That's one to monitor. Would pick it, again, that's the peach balls, the best bull pit has been in years, but look, who's in the blue bonnet bowl this year, Jeff? Who's in that one? I don't think that exists anymore. I'm not a 100% sure. That went the way of the. As the inside dot com bowl, there. The HTTP slash backslash insight dot com when it first came out. "ESPN radio. And the ESPN APP the Johnny Majors Classic, of course in Knoxville. I didn't like what I saw out of Tennessee and weak win against Bowling Green, albeit in a very big win. Pittsburgh looked very Can you pick it? Who's collecting Social Security for Pittsburgh? Of course, he's been there for about 47 years. The quarterback. That's a really big matchup and N C state at Mississippi State. These are two games that the desperately needs. After a rough week. One they're both favored could be both very close spreads. I like both teams in these games. I just don't know what to make of the outcome. Point Spread wise. Yes, You know, it's funny, and I'm glad you mentioned Pick it. I think he's Hunter. Renfroe needs a kind of hand over the trophy for the guy who's still in college. You're just shocked when you hear his name. I think the transfer portal with the Covid situation changed everything. But no, I think it's a really interesting game for pit right. They've been sort of trending in the right direction. Pat Narduzzi, who have been very critical of his conservative field goal kicking, he has the program head in the right way. I like what Mark Whipple the OC is done as well with this offense. Very Very upperclassmen and Tennessee. Tennessee is only 10 and 20 as a home dog in the last 30 against the spreads. You think SEC team getting over a field goal at home? This is a program that is really struggled. Joe Milton looked terrible last week by you know by high standards obviously ran the ball well, but Air mailing a lot of throws its pit or pass for me, but I'd have to lay the three not the 3.5. But I do think this is as advertised. I think the Panthers just the word that sticks out their polished. I really tried. I know what I'm gonna get with them. Yeah, There's no question about that. N C state they covered the 18 last week against South Florida. I think they're very underrated Team. I had the over on the 6.5 wind total for NC State this year. I liked NC state going into the season and Mississippi State defensively needed the largest comeback in school history last week to meet Louisiana Tech. So again a really fascinating lower to your PC. SEC matchup really needed by SEC teams. What underrated top 25 teams can make a huge statement this weekend. We'll tell you next. It's college tailgate on ESPN radio, ESPN app. The NFL is on T. J And now Max Kellerman. Here's a guy that you drafted in the first round that you think could potentially be the successor to Aaron Rodgers in the future, but could at least be.

"On. Espn dot com chuck section. I've given them out daily wager. But you know we'll rip through a few here i want to start with. Ecu this numbers come down a little bit. They play thursday night against appalachian state and look. I think he's us live dog. Jay vermont talked about it as well. They have a bunch of veterans including senior quarterback and app. State's been a little shaky as well. And they have a new quarterback and chase. Bryce you might remember him. He played a key. Clemson then transferred to duke ten and a half a lot of points for team that always seems to pull games out of the hat and have crazy place at the end. I like myself getting double digits plus ten right now but still i would out jumping on on ec as long as you get double digits and maybe a little sprinkle on the money line. That could be some fun The came by actually liked the most Kinda scared about it and it's umass and everybody who listen to pod on a somewhat regular basis knows. I'm kind of the betting bully as humans. A frequent guest. Your calls me. I like to bet on bet against bad teams. Just just do it right. Like orioles season win total under. I've certainly bet against umass in the past but thirty eight is just way too many points. And i'll tell you why won't bell and umass went out and got a bunch of transfers. Their quarterback is a six foot five inch from from colorado like the university of and or colorado university of boulder. And they have two running backs that transferred in one from rutgers. So a team that was like. Fcs not too long ago or fcs quality has some real players and you only have to get thirty eight now pits good. But they're at tennessee. The following week nerd uzis not a guy who's going to run up the score. He's old school. Fourth quarter they'll bring in the is a little bit and on top of that. Probably the best handy angle. I have is the offense coordinator for pit is a guy named mark whipple. He's coached umass twice head coach. Also the most recent time was just a few years ago. This is not situation where he wants to embarrass his former program. Umass is a special place in his heart. Whipple's going to call off the dogs as well. So i just think if you can get about two touchdowns even if it's garbage time i think plus thirty eight is the play in. That game is crazy. As it sounds another game. I like is essentially a coin. Flip game and it syracuse minus one. And a half. you might remember. I've talked about it with jay motto. The over three in the win total. They're going to split time at quarterback. Babies made that announcement. I don't love it. I would prefer. Tommy devito to be the entire time but dual threat with michigan state. Sorry mississippi state transfer garrett schrader. They're just better at a lot of positions that ohio but most importantly syracuse addressed. Their offense align issues. There was a pathetic. Offense couldn't even average average about two hundred fifty yards per game. Not passing just total yards per game. The veto would be injured. A lot spent a lot of time on his back. If they're okay on the offensive line this is just a syracuse team. That's just better. No more frank. Solich at ohio. Bob cats will rotate. Quarterbacks curtis rourke. Who's obviously the brother of nathan rourke the former stud bob cats quarterback and then armani rogers transfer from unlv. Ohio's very good. They looked good last year against the too bad teams really bad teams in the mac akron bowling green. But i think use gets there which is better talent especially with vito healthy and maybe we hope and improved offensive line. Fourth play i want to talk about

"Mean knowing pit knowing pit. They'll find a way to lose one of these games but they should start out five and now umass tennessee. Western michigan new hampshire and georgia tech. Those show you should be there and then let's not forget like the these tough games. They get them at home like north carolina. Coming up to that. It's coming up to pittsburgh on the grass on november eleventh. Even miami on october thirtieth or even clemson clemson already know about it. You know what i mean like. They're going to win one of those games that that Those three teams are ski. Probably going to be favored. So i think the over mark. Whipple six quarterback kenny pickett. I i just think that The offense will be a lot better than they have a nice combo schedule-wise as far as getting some of the tough teams at home was going to say they do catch. Unc clemson and miami. Which isn't the best. But but they catch him at home. It's oh it is the official weird road trip. I will say we do seem to forget. Every preseason how frustrating it is to bet on our doozy game basis especially as a favorite but outside of catching. They're going to win at least one of those games. They're going to sneak up on someone problem Like you said the non-conference should be a four now and the last Look how many how. Many major conference teams like this rolling out. A super senior at quarterback. Yeah that's going to have to ma- i if you think about the cognitive advantage of having a guy going from twenty two to twenty three or something like that it seems like it would be a a nice advantage last thing. I'll say. They also catch. Virginia tech off the notre dame. Yeah when they're coming the bye. So i the schedules Liberal salute on the over. It's a great schedule for them. And we're going to hate it when we're watching. Our doozy flow elite against western. Kills me as really makes you nervous. You're just like oh. God remember he was up. They were detonated. They were down four pence down. Hold on down for penn state with two minutes left at the pin state one yard line and he kicks field goal fourth and one. Never someone like that was never lay points with nar. Doozy has just been added to the college football. Betting notes for the season never lay points with dizzy. He makes scratchy. Like maybe a point. Maybe two oh man. Talking about cuts clothing we had the milestone. we got that app launch since pretty big milestone.
