Folks indigenous peoples weekend is upon us and for those who have been hearing about the indigenous community more and more lately, is probably been because of an unfortunate reality once again, America got to witness firsthand through the mainstream media. The syndrome known as missing white woman syndrome. But for the first time, there was a tremendous reaction to this syndrome in a sense that we became more informed about how prevalent missing indigenous women are. And then there's no media clamor for that. There's no news coverage of that. And a lot of times those cases are never solved. We also know that to be the case about black and brown woman. But today, we're going to talk, we're going to be talking about missing and murdered indigenous women as we approach this indigenous peoples weekend. We're happy to have with us, no stranger to the show here from the indigenous peoples movement, as always, queen, najah. And wonder mind everyone, she is oh Bala. Oh Bala. And Lakota. And we are also joined by one of the founders of the red hog Native American arts council who, and he is Taino. He does work also as well with that p.m. the indigenous peoples movement. My brother, cliff, Matthias. They both join us today. How are you both doing? Great, Mark. Yes. Doing good. Glad to have you as always. Queen your naja how let's begin with you. Do you think this most recent news coverage of the Gabby petito case and then running alongside of it more and more outspoken voices about missing and murdered indigenous women? Do you think that that increased the level of awareness on people's radars to the plight of missing and murdered indigenous women? Most definitely, especially the fact that where they found Gabby's body was a place where there is, I believe they said, I don't know, I don't want to misquote the numbers. There was a large amount of missing and murdered Native American women from that exact area. And so that was a huge, huge red flag to the local government. And then to national government as well in regards to how bad this genocide is and this problem in regards to missing and murdered indigenous women and today there is over, I believe, and I don't want to misquote, but I'll just round it rounded around about it's over 10,000 missing and murdered indigenous women within the United States and in over 20,000 and over 20,000 and probably more in Canada. And so I believe I'm happy that you talked about the white woman, the missing white woman syndrome that everyone seems to have, but this situation brought a huge, huge awareness around something that we all have been fighting to bring awareness to and to stop the genocide of indigenous women. Yeah, yeah. Cliff, what's your take on this and just any thoughts about well I think we know why it's ignored, we're clear on the racism. But what about this epidemic of women being kidnapped in the first place? What's that all about? Well, I mean, this has been going on since before it could be, you know, before it could be documented, at least among in the indigenous community, it's been a conversation, we've known these statistics are missing a murder indigenous women are usually. But then we also have our missing and murdered indigenous LGBTQ community as well. And so amongst indigenous people, this conversation has been going on a long time. And we're quite aware that whenever a black or brown person disappears that's never dealt with the same fashion that, of course, you know, Caucasian or people are. I think that this particular situation really brought light to it actually brought a lot of light to the indigenous cause and the missing emerging indigenous women are disappearing at a horrendous rate, especially in Wyoming, you know? And I don't have those statistics either, the exact number, not that I mentioned that. But there really has been no focus on any indigenous person who's disappeared in Wyoming at close to the level that this particular case is then. I think it's about at the moment. I think I'm right. It's about 710. 710 indigenous people, mostly women were reported missing over the past decade in Wyoming alone. And again, this is the same state where Gaby petito has disappeared. Are there any, I mean, obviously, within the indigenous community, I'll talk about this a queen. Are there any theories as to what that's about and who might be targeting these women? Yeah. There are a lot of them are white men that are coming that are local as well as that are a part of, you know, our fight on the oil pipeline. You know, we was on your show before talking about standing rock, the Dakota access pipeline. You'd recently had Tara on your show talking about line three. We come on these shows to talk about and we go on the front line to protect our waters, but in our land on the oil pipelines, but most importantly, it's to protect our women at these construction sites. They set up man camps and these man camps is to be able to yes. These man camps are established around these construction fights around a lot of the environmental fights that we all fight on when they're trying to build mining oil pipelines. So these are man caps that are forcing the first off their kidnapping indigenous women, they're forcing women to force for sex. And then after they're done with them, they are murdering them and that's and then they are missing. Missing either murdered or we don't know where these women go, whether they are, you know, like they're sent to another country or whatever. But this is all around these mining oil pipelines, all of the things that they do around our reservations in our homelands, you know, and so this is something that we have been fighting to talking and bringing awareness to this government, this government is, so when we're fighting against these oil pipelines, we're not just fighting against the oil pipeline, because they were ruining our earth in our waters, but it's also too it's because it's the it's what they're bringing to is.

Firefighters Working to Protect South Lake Tahoe From Caldor Fire
"The flames. The wind. It is a It's a battle with this Kaldor fire overnight firefighters battling out of control flames desperate to keep the call door fire from taking over South Lake Tahoe home. Officials working day and night to save the community. I did see some damage to structures. The fire burn through their extremely fast, extremely hot evacuation orders expanding into Nevada as the relentless fire barrels through the dry terrain burning nearly 200,000 acres in just 18% contained to give you an idea of the kind of terrain these firefighters are dealing with. You see that incredibly steep hillside there? And all of those trees sort of clustered together on fire at the same time, so this fire damaged trees falling over is a huge concern for firefighters. Yeah, you know, that's a great point. You know you're in this firefight. You may even think that you're on the back side of those flames. But one of those trees falls suddenly and Mm hmm. We need to reclaim our city larceny, theft, burglary robbery, regardless of the criminal code definitions. The problem of people taking property from stores and individuals in San Francisco must be addressed in a way that it hasn't been in the past. Did you see the latest viral crime video? It shows at least nine people who ran into Neiman Marcus on Union Square late Monday afternoon, smashed display cases, grabbed expensive bags and bolted out the front door. Cell phone video captured the thieves running out of the store with their arms full of stolen goods before jumping into a getaway car. You can find the video online. If you want to see what happened yourself. This comes on the heels of target stores, reducing the nighttime store hours in San Francisco due to an alarming increase in shoplifting committed by a highly organized criminal operation that's targeting the retail giant. By the way, target, officials say. San Francisco is the only city in the country where it stores early closing times are necessary and it's not just target and Neiman Marcus Walgreens has closed 17 of its stores in the city in the last five years. Due to shoplifting. Walgreens officials told the Board of Supervisors recently that theft in their San Francisco stores is four times the average. There are other stores around the country. The chain also spends 35 times more on security guards in San Francisco than in other cities. This has to stop now. And the idea that we need another group of experts to study the situation and recommend steps to regain control of our city is ridiculous. Know what the city that once do? How needs now is some common sense. We have one of the finest police departments in the country. They really do. Try to protect and serve. But your average San Francisco cop is frustrated. Why It's not money or hours of the usual labor management squabbles. It's because of one man San Francisco District Attorney Chester Bodine, who has been in office since January. 2020. I strongly support efforts to recall Bodine. They're two groups mounting such efforts right now, one of them has until August 11th together valid signatures. The other has until October, 25th to submit valid signatures to place a recall vote on the ballot. Supporters of both recalls alleged that votings approach has led to increased crime rates. One of the petitions being circulated states that voting is not keeping San Francisco safe. He refuses to adequately prosecute criminals and fails to take the drug dealing crisis seriously. He doesn't hold serial offenders accountable and get them released from custody. Odin says the recall efforts rely on false and disproven Republican talking points. He says he's committed to public safety through building a legal system that promotes justice and enforces the law. Equally, that's a lofty goal. But the reality is votings words and actions haven't helped. As I see it, crime and the fear of crime are higher than they've ever been. In the 45 years. Simplifies like for a new person. That's never used our software. Like what are they. What should they do. So it's like step one. Click here step to click here and so what we try to do is get them to. I value as quickly as possible. And so i value for us. Is they have their checkout lincoln. They're accepting payment and so they had that moment and they're like oh my god. This is awesome. I love it and so it took us a while to get there but it has still is leaps and bounds better and it's helped from all of our numbers from our turn rate. Some of the qualities from playing baseball has definitely transitioned to my professional life. Did you do you recall the first time you first entrepreneurial experience what was that about yes so it was in college We create we created some t shirts. And so i had to go i worked. I worked with a graphic designer. I'm on a t shirt and so we have this this one day it's called dolphin day. It's basically one day when everybody takes off of classes and you just partying how fun and so. It's like a big event in our college. So i was like every year. People were selling t shirts on mike. Man i'm i'm gonna go and do that and so i had these t shirts created. I can't remember how we had a couple of hundred of them created and we just went dorm room to dorm room. And so i kind of learned how to create the t shirt to go out and sell it and and and at the time. I think i was an entrepreneur. I was just like this is kind of fun. I get to go and talk to people and make a couple of bucks for some beer and for my partying and and You know it actually was kind of my first gig. Was there ever an an are harm to you for yourself where you go. You know what there's something in says. Yes so i mean it happened back in two thousand nine. It was the first piece of software that i ever created and back then it was a wordpress plugin i i wasn't really you know sas wasn't as possible popular as it is now and so i created this product and at the time i didn't really know how to sell it. I was just like well. I you know. I hired this company. I kind of found a product that they had created. And i like you know reverse engineered it to see who is the one that built it and i was like. Hey i had this idea. Can you build it for me. And so you know after. I kind of spent my life savings. It wasn't the smartest choice.

So we're a billing and affiliate management solution and so we help on my not preneurs sass companies people running membership sites online. Course craters just really remove the technical hurdles when it comes to accepting payment manage recurring revenue. Man's affiliate partners So this product really was a byproduct of you know everything that i have been doing for the last ten years i.
