"With Mark Thompson. Get wow. Folks indigenous peoples weekend is upon us and for those who have been hearing about the indigenous community more and more lately, is probably been because of an unfortunate reality once again, America got to witness firsthand through the mainstream media. The syndrome known as missing white woman syndrome. But for the first time, there was a tremendous reaction to this syndrome in a sense that we became more informed about how prevalent missing indigenous women are. And then there's no media clamor for that. There's no news coverage of that. And a lot of times those cases are never solved. We also know that to be the case about black and brown woman. But today, we're going to talk, we're going to be talking about missing and murdered indigenous women as we approach this indigenous peoples weekend. We're happy to have with us, no stranger to the show here from the indigenous peoples movement, as always, queen, najah. And wonder mind everyone, she is oh Bala. Oh Bala. And Lakota. And we are also joined by one of the founders of the red hog Native American arts council who, and he is Taino. He does work also as well with that p.m. the indigenous peoples movement. My brother, cliff, Matthias. They both join us today. How are you both doing? Great, Mark. Yes. Doing good. Glad to have you as always. Queen your naja how let's begin with you. Do you think this most recent news coverage of the Gabby petito case and then running alongside of it more and more outspoken voices about missing and murdered indigenous women? Do you think that that increased the level of awareness on people's radars to the plight of missing and murdered indigenous women? Most definitely, especially the fact that where they found Gabby's body was a place where there is, I believe they said, I don't know, I don't want to misquote the numbers. There was a large amount of missing and murdered Native American women from that exact area. And so that was a huge, huge red flag to the local government. And then to national government as well in regards to how bad this genocide is and this problem in regards to missing and murdered indigenous women and today there is over, I believe, and I don't want to misquote, but I'll just round it rounded around about it's over 10,000 missing and murdered indigenous women within the United States and in over 20,000 and over 20,000 and probably more in Canada. And so I believe I'm happy that you talked about the white woman, the missing white woman syndrome that everyone seems to have, but this situation brought a huge, huge awareness around something that we all have been fighting to bring awareness to and to stop the genocide of indigenous women. Yeah, yeah. Cliff, what's your take on this and just any thoughts about well I think we know why it's ignored, we're clear on the racism. But what about this epidemic of women being kidnapped in the first place? What's that all about? Well, I mean, this has been going on since before it could be, you know, before it could be documented, at least among in the indigenous community, it's been a conversation, we've known these statistics are missing a murder indigenous women are usually. But then we also have our missing and murdered indigenous LGBTQ community as well. And so amongst indigenous people, this conversation has been going on a long time. And we're quite aware that whenever a black or brown person disappears that's never dealt with the same fashion that, of course, you know, Caucasian or people are. I think that this particular situation really brought light to it actually brought a lot of light to the indigenous cause and the missing emerging indigenous women are disappearing at a horrendous rate, especially in Wyoming, you know? And I don't have those statistics either, the exact number, not that I mentioned that. But there really has been no focus on any indigenous person who's disappeared in Wyoming at close to the level that this particular case is then. I think it's about at the moment. I think I'm right. It's about 710. 710 indigenous people, mostly women were reported missing over the past decade in Wyoming alone. And again, this is the same state where Gaby petito has disappeared. Are there any, I mean, obviously, within the indigenous community, I'll talk about this a queen. Are there any theories as to what that's about and who might be targeting these women? Yeah. There are a lot of them are white men that are coming that are local as well as that are a part of, you know, our fight on the oil pipeline. You know, we was on your show before talking about standing rock, the Dakota access pipeline. You'd recently had Tara on your show talking about line three. We come on these shows to talk about and we go on the front line to protect our waters, but in our land on the oil pipelines, but most importantly, it's to protect our women at these construction sites. They set up man camps and these man camps is to be able to yes. These man camps are established around these construction fights around a lot of the environmental fights that we all fight on when they're trying to build mining oil pipelines. So these are man caps that are forcing the first off their kidnapping indigenous women, they're forcing women to force for sex. And then after they're done with them, they are murdering them and that's and then they are missing. Missing either murdered or we don't know where these women go, whether they are, you know, like they're sent to another country or whatever. But this is all around these mining oil pipelines, all of the things that they do around our reservations in our homelands, you know, and so this is something that we have been fighting to talking and bringing awareness to this government, this government is, so when we're fighting against these oil pipelines, we're not just fighting against the oil pipeline, because they were ruining our earth in our waters, but it's also too it's because it's the it's what they're bringing to is.

"Updates on the Mark Thompson program. Good morning. I'm Brett Burghardt. Former President Barack Obama is urging California voters to reject the recall effort against Governor Gavin Newsom. In a TV ad, Obama says a recall vote is the difference between protecting our kids and putting them at risk. Vice President Kamala Harris was in the East Bay this week at a get out the vote. Ralph Harris, insisting the effort against Newsom is just one of many battles nationwide. They think if they can win in California, they can do this anywhere where we will show them. You're not going to get this done. Not here. Never. The governor took the stage as well. We have to turn out the vote and vote. No. On this Republican recall. Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulkner is one of several Republicans who want the governor's job telling kgo Chip Franklin. You have to be able to lead and yet to be able to lead with common sense. And I think when you do that it transcends party registration, and I think when we've seen against so much of what the far left has done in this state, it's just broken. It's not working time. Paul Rodgers kgo a 10 president. Biden is scheduled to appear with Newsom on Monday at a rally in Long Beach. Carla Marinucci, the dean of political reporting in California, and beyond, joins Mark Thompson with much more analysis. On the the recall campaign, the days leading up to it. California lawmakers have sent Governor Newsom legislation to end the careers of bad law enforcement officers. The final approval comes a year after an earlier effort died without final vote. The bill aims to keep troubled officers from jumping from one job to another. Home in San Francisco's Coal Valley neighborhood has $2 million over the asking price on the table. The home on Belgrave Avenue was nicknamed the Treehouse in the Sky because of the views of Golden Gate Bridge and the city from every single room. Blessed that it is a blessed day and especially after the outstanding jobs report What nine hundred forty. Three thousand job gains during the month of july. Yeah it's it's been. I'll tell you it's been a good stretch here. We had a great job. It you said nine hundred forty three thousand jobs and that's full million jobs since president as aca. Niger rated in. We're able to pass a bipartisan bill. To the united states senate one point three trillion dollar infrastructure bill. So it's it's been it's been a good good for five days here in the in the biden administration and we can't attribute a lot of these gains to gradual re-opening candy. It's the opening is no question about it. I think that it's also vaccines when the president came in here and january. Pass the bill to the congress and the senate american messy plan which made investments in vaccines for americans made invest in childcare. We've seen thirty nine million billion dollars. Excuse me who all to the federal government into cities and towns across america out. We still have more work to do. No question about it. In last week's job report was a great one one of the largest in drought country. The problem is that we still seeing advocate means of color particularly african american community. Still the numbers. I will want to be. The percentage dropped a whole point in a month from nine point. Two eight point two. What was still talking. Eight point two percent on a flight of the black community. So we have. We have work to do. In fact nears statistic that black and hispanic women have been the most likely to lose their jobs throughout the whole cohen crisis. What are your thoughts about bannon. And what can we do about. Unfortunately i love to sales surprise. But i be surprised. We've seen that in the past in this country in in so we have to do though is come back stronger in can't go back to the normal. I think that when the president talks about is bill back better agenda. This is the companion piece to the physical infrastructure bill. There is money in their four hundred billion dollars. That's going to go into the cares economy. Many of the people that work in that industry has many eighty plus percent of the people that work in that case economy industry. A women were have car that that quite honestly aid in some cases less than a a living wage less than minimum wage in the idea behind the investment is about better job training mid more opportunity but also increasing wages. So we have work to do there. And i think that you know hopefully As we move forward in the next three four five weeks we'll start to see some of that legislation moving out congress. "The beach. Mark Thompson Spelling bee Coming up on KGL. Lived in or loved San Francisco Over the years, we have to stop wringing our hands and complaining. We need to reclaim our city larceny, theft, burglary robbery, regardless of the criminal code definitions. The problem of people taking property from stores and individuals in San Francisco must be addressed in a way that it hasn't been in the past. Did you see the latest viral crime video? It shows at least nine people who ran into Neiman Marcus on Union Square late Monday afternoon, smashed display cases, grabbed expensive bags and bolted out the front door. Cell phone video captured the thieves running out of the store with their arms full of stolen goods before jumping into a getaway car. You can find the video online. If you want to see what happened yourself. This comes on the heels of target stores, reducing the nighttime store hours in San Francisco due to an alarming increase in shoplifting committed by a highly organized criminal operation that's targeting the retail giant. By the way, target, officials say. San Francisco is the only city in the country where it stores early closing times are necessary and it's not just target and Neiman Marcus Walgreens has closed 17 of its stores in the city in the last five years. Due to shoplifting. Walgreens officials told the Board of Supervisors recently that theft in their San Francisco stores is four times the average. There are other stores around the country. The chain also spends 35 times more on security guards in San Francisco than in other cities. This has to stop now. And the idea that we need another group of experts to study the situation and recommend steps to regain control of our city is ridiculous. Know what the city that once do? How needs now is some common sense. We have one of the finest police departments in the country. They really do. Try to protect and serve. But your average San Francisco cop is frustrated. Why It's not money or hours of the usual labor management squabbles. It's because of one man San Francisco District Attorney Chester Bodine, who has been in office since January. 2020. I strongly support efforts to recall Bodine. They're two groups mounting such efforts right now, one of them has until August 11th together valid signatures. The other has until October, 25th to submit valid signatures to place a recall vote on the ballot. Supporters of both recalls alleged that votings approach has led to increased crime rates. One of the petitions being circulated states that voting is not keeping San Francisco safe. He refuses to adequately prosecute criminals and fails to take the drug dealing crisis seriously. He doesn't hold serial offenders accountable and get them released from custody. Odin says the recall efforts rely on false and disproven Republican talking points. He says he's committed to public safety through building a legal system that promotes justice and enforces the law. Equally, that's a lofty goal. But the reality is votings words and actions haven't helped. As I see it, crime and the fear of crime are higher than they've ever been. In the 45 years. I've lived in San Francisco on my Facebook page, dozens of kgo a 10 listeners posted their thoughts. After watching the Neiman Marcus shoplifting video, Joey says This is so absurd. I'm almost speechless Doses either Return law and order with prosecution or businesses should go the way of appointment only. You want to shop? You make an appointment, Steve says San Francisco is a mess. The current D A believes that people who steal needed more than the person being stolen from and finally Travis says people of San Francisco elect idiots who said criminals free and then they wonder why crime is on the rise. How about arresting people and keeping them in jail for longer than one day? That's the Ron Owen's.

"Where new details are emerging about the couple arrested after a horrifying road rage incident 24 year old Marcus Erez at 23 year old win Li are each being held on a million dollar bail, and it's expected they'll be arraigned today. She's accused of driving the car when he allegedly opened fire the bullet killing six year old age and Leo's who was in the back seat. And laid to rest yesterday. Our lead national correspondent David Begnaud is following this in Orange County, David. It's an awful story. Good morning to you. Good morning. We've learned so much information within the last 24 hours. The suspects have no criminal history. They're not involved in any gangs. The gun was legally registered to the male suspect. He purchased it legally as well. Uh, and the suspects apparently altered their appearance a bit, but they didn't exactly go underground. In fact, on Sunday, they went to eat sushi and the police watched them. But the cops didn't want to make the arrest of the restaurant because they didn't want to cause a scene, So they waited for them to leave. They followed them home. And that's where they got them. It sounded like an accident. Like all of a sudden, and then it was crazy screaming. This is Julie, who didn't want us to use her last name, describing the moment that she says police moved in and ended the more than two week manhunt. I think you were the one Brett, who pointed out that they were so concerned with submerging them that they actually punctured holes in these huge metal barrels. Didn't you point that out? I think you pointed that out at the time when we first did this story, But here's the reason we're doing it again. In subsequent Investigations with these sonar vessels. They found so much more than they originally found. They found these barrels covering an area the size of San Francisco. Oh, gosh. It is overwhelming. They said We were going to count it. But it would be like counting stars in the Milky Way galaxy. There's so many of them. They used these underwater drones with sonar technology to troll 36,000 acres of seabed. It's down between Catalina and L.
