"See. Thanks for joining today. Can you start a softest with a very very high level. Overview of china's emission reduction target china's president xi jinping after announced a net zero carbon your targets in september so the goal is to have china rich carbon peak by twenty thirty and to recover neutral by twenty sixty so what it translate into the road transport sector is well although there is no specific targets that for particular sector pains I turn that the country. The central government wants all sectors in in the country to essentially to decarbonise and the pathway for different for different sectors. You is paris a lot so they wanna hit their peak of emissions. What'd you say. Twenty thirty twenty thirty twenty thirty and then start coming down to zero by twenty sixty thirty years to come down the mountain. I guess today we're going to focus mostly on evt's or electric vehicles and a policy. That's come into play to try to get those sales up and therefore get the emissions down from the transportation sector. Can you explain to us. Just the well start us off with the name of the policy and a bit about its objectives. They use policy toys. After new energy vehicle mandate so new under be a cold is kind of china's definition electric vehicle plug in hybrid infused l. vehicles so the mandate is very similar to california zero emission vehicle or theft mandate and eight requires automakers to sell electric vehicles in order to produce nab credit. That's gonna meet a government assigned target so essentially the policy tool is designed to push automakers to sell more electric vehicles which the broader goal of china's push behind on trivia co is not only to reduce carbon emission but also deals oriented import and to transform is industry towards more events.

"What's up people. Welcome to think. This is a podcast about politics. Race and culture from a poc perspective. Eyeing my jane of horse. Sam and i'm erica lorella. Y'all we have to incredible all-stars love win. this happens. Yes twenty twenty one february. We're ready for you joining us from washington. Dc is washing. I li each contributing opinion writer with the new york times wa. I'm a brown man from california surrounded by snow joining us from santa fe. New mexico is. Jenny may independent investigative journalist and founder of the newsletter. Indigenously welcome back jenny. Happy new year. Happy new year high friends two all stars. I love this love. That the molly's jenny by glad all right moving on also in the middle of snow in some deep connecticut and new england new england. And there's a lot of snow but we're going to start with what's happening in congress so there's just over a week until the impeachment trial of former president trump is going to begin the senate. I mean as per usual. it's been messy and that's like a nice way to put it. It's just basically been fucked. There have been reports that trump was struggling to find lawyers to defend him and over the weekend five members of his legal team. They're gone including his to lead attorneys gun here on sunday night however he announced that he did have two new heads for the his defense team. David shown and bruce castor. Of course we know that even though the trial is still happening at least seventeen. Republicans will need to vote with the democrats in order to convict trump in the senate. Which is i. Don't know. I mean i still hold your so. I don't know why because you know me but it's highly unlikely only five. Republicans didn't vote to dismiss the trial on monday. However reuters reported that dozens of republicans who worked in the george w bush administration announced that they were leaving the party. Still we know that more than half of the party voted to block certification. The violent insurrection at the capitol. They voted to block certifying election. Okay seeing the way the majority of the gop is still rallying behind trump. because they just can't get enough calling. This impeachment actually unconstitutional which is like what. What constitution are you reading. The question. was also you know because now there's all of these like will he be asked to be a witness in a trial. Yeah will there be accountability. What's your first take wash. no. I admire your optimism. I think optimism as needed. It warmed my heart To hear you say that maria snuggle jaded heart because you know. I have to be optimistic but i give you the republican party. Where like you just said. Nearly half of them voted to overturn a free and fair election where they have the hate monger known as mark taylor. Green not stripped of any committees She's a bigot. Who believes in jewish space later. End is an anti semite Yunan supporter and by the way. Now we have a republicans who realize that the base belongs to trump in even after he was impeached. Four trying to overturn the election remember. Who's first impeached for abusing his power to get ukraine to interfere in the election. They were fine with that. So nothing's going to happen. I've heard of the civil war. The civil war has ended. Trump and trump is trumpism one however there is something here where i think that the democrats can play on isn't it. They can just bleed off a few of these republicans who are leaving in mass and some of his corporate money in corporate dollars right. So there's a small civil war here that's happening behind the scenes. Yeah but the base is trump the basis marjorie taylor. Green base are the folks who voted to overturn the election. And i think no matter. How bad shit crazy. He gets this week or next week they will find a way to acquit him. That's what's going to happen okay. Jenny feeling the same way that it that is like a dose of reality. Thank you wash. it's the reality. I think that we're all thinking into but it's also you know when you look at people like marjorie green. She affirms the fact that you know this crazy train has already left and she missed it. And i think that we're all moving on. And you know full will fall where they may and they might not be. Perfect in terms of holding trump accountable. But i think that this country is for the better of just moving forward. You know i always see things from indian country perspective and you know we had three out of the six of our congressional leaders. Vote to block the impeachment of trump. And you know to support overturning biden's victory. I just think that that's crazy. And one of them has been the longest serving congressman for indian

"I'm going to kind of give you something I've learned personally and I want to share this with your audience, but I think it'll help everybody. I had done a lecture. I was asked to give a talk. And it was a talk for educators and there was teachers working with teachers to help teachers learn new techniques. So it's kind of peer-to-peer situation. I said to the coordinator where you wanna speak about they said, oh you have know so much stuff Steve. I'm sure you'll find something good. Okay. Thanks for the council. And we're like where they came across with something that has really expanded and it's become something that's helped. A lot of people want to I just want to bring out here and I call it the five structures of Home Learning success, but it really could be applied to anything wrong and I've been since I gave this talk about somebody has to do it like 30 more times, but let me just share this really quickly lead to success. First one is a physical structure. You can't get anything done. If it's noisy if you took the table, you know lighting you don't have a quiet work environment too is a Time structure. You got a good time management. You have to do the work when you need to the third one is academics. I know what you got to do dead. The fourth one is accountability. You have to have somebody is going to kind of keep it going and the last one is support when you need help. You want to know where you're going to go to get help and I could turn that into a Sixty Minute presentation, but I'm I'm going to leave it at that and those things are what maybe think to talk about that right now all the result of working with so many people over so long and interacting with so many people parents students professionals people sort of parallel to me and sort of Beyond me in terms of who they're serving and just trying to break it down to the most fundamental basic doable achievable actions that people can take and that's really,.

"Is there and and and and there are a couple of other things which I thought you said, we should really really interesting and I think the fact that you can learn from anybody around the world now is absolutely fantastic because what it does is it means that you can study with the best you can learn with the best you're not restricted to the person who happens to be down your street or happens to be the person teaching at your school, but I guess the faith Sort of it says you have to be really careful about who they are. And so that credibility that experience is going to be a really important factor about you then deciding who it is that you do want to go and find yeah that well that's that's that's very very accurate points is the availability there and it's much much greater and then you know, but the credibility can sometimes come in a question because there's it's such a low entry barrier, right anybody can set up a website or whatever and a portal and say they're an expert in something and how is anybody going to know so long to Caveat Emptor sort of thing, but the beauty of it is, you know in idealistic way I can say listen. I want to learn how to play the percussion right who's the best percussion teacher in the whole world? Oh, well this guy Mark Taylor in North part of London and I could have access to you whereas under normal circumstances. Probably not maybe not even probably not almost definitely not because as you say dead, We're limited geographically and we're limited financially, you know, it's interesting because and I almost pains me to say this because I think they get a negative connotation. But with a lot of the stuff is the online gaming world. And I see a lot of key, you know, one of the biggest complaints I get from here to my kids spend so much time on these darn video games and you know, I can't get him off the video games and they're always on the computer are always on their phone, you know, it's chat with friends. But a lot of that drives the technology because the games demand greater and greater core processing and video processing and audio processing home. And because the companies the big company that Microsoft that Sony's of the world are driven to provide that the education and all the other ancillary things can piggyback on that so long, you know, that's kind of how it works. I'll tell you one thing. I think the best part about this is the availability Because there are still unfortunately a lot of people in the world that that do not have access to Great education. In the United States that you hear the word underserved a lot, but typically there in urban environments were in countries that are just not as unfortunately financially sound off. So there are people getting left behind we're potentially for sure getting left behind and that's everywhere. I do some pro bono work locally in some schools that just.

"Clearly way way different is the way that we're doing it. I mean if you had told me even ten years ago, I I could support people in in Japan or Germany or India or even in other states United States, California. I'm on the East Coast United States New York. I did B would have sounded ridiculous. Right? But the technology has pasted at such a degree that not only is it strong enough to support this and availability of computers and Chromebooks and found the most importantly the internet to everyone when I don't say everyone but as many people as can get to it now and that's really what's made a huge huge difference. The other thing that's really been very helpful is the ability to work with many people at once. In other words. I I can and you can do that two ways. I can hold a class online and if 15 kids From from anywhere. I've done that where I have kids and fifty different places all logging in to the same thing. And that's not like I'm the only one who can do that's not proprietary. But the fact that that can happen. The second thing is the huge explosion of asynchronous Education where anyone could make a course a video course and audio course, whatever have it posted on a site sucks when people could log in or access it and and view it so I have courses like that, but it just those two things alone have made the availability information so much easier so much faster and I think because of that the quality of it is gone up as well. And and this and this so yeah, the I don't listen. I don't know what the end point is. I don't know what we're going to be doing in ten years or we just you know, everybody just think and everybody else knows it. I mean, I think there's a point where it'll sort of plateau, but you know, it all gets smaller, you know, we went from big giant bulky computers too. Small computers two phones two watches, you know, and and I think the next thing is is sort of the virtual reality and I was on a I was involved with a person who's trying to do now 3D virtual reality instruction where people would wear to Virtual Reality glasses and and such and then you would actually be teaching and it would be almost like they're sitting in a live lecture hall. So I I'm thinking that's probably the next progression with this but let me add one last thing because just to date this this is early October 2020 and where we are at least we're still in the whole covid-19. And I think I think that's going to lead to an even larger explosion of virtual education over the next I don't know whatever year two years five years. I think that's really true. I also hope in in lots of ways that this all the the the virtual reality idea actually helps some of the more artistic subjects all that the artistic creative things that we learn within schools, which is harder to learn on a zoom call. But I think this kind of concept of that sort of 3D idea in all of that will actually bring that to life in a much more user-friendly like I say when the wage which is there and when the access.

"It's morphed into helping students and families to give them the skills to give birth actions academically in terms of college and University Admissions and in terms of kind of their overall approach to their academics and school. On a daily basis so specialized I suppose in subjects like math and science but also test like the SAT and ACT and then I have authored a book page focuses on I guess simply put how to be a good student. They manage your time manage your information do this every day successfully and I bundle all that together and that's what we provide students and families with so that that is our goal. I think the thing that struck me when I was looking at all of the the resources you had on your website and everything which you're involved in was that bought the intentionality about it, which I really like there's there's certainly a feeling sometimes that children start to drift, you know, you go to school because you have to and then you sort of meander a little bit and then I thought you say as you get towards that kind of college-age you suddenly realize that if you want to take that next step, then you have to put some things in place and start learning and I I sort of like the process of those sorts of skills going a little bit earlier. So tell us a little bit about why you came to that sort of intentionality and those tools specifically was it just something which you knew work based on your experience of tutoring. Well before I was in private tutoring, I was a teacher I was in high school in a university teacher professor. And once I started tutoring privately one thing I found very quickly was up most of the time when students struggled it wasn't an intellectual issue. It wasn't that they couldn't do it. They either were to unorganized were unmotivated or just not paying attention frankly and I think some of this was because they maybe didn't care they weren't invested in the process, but often I would see kids come over to my school or to my office and you know the notebooks for that paper stick it on every different direction. They couldn't find their homework or they would do their home. Not handed in so there's a level of academics that isn't simply learning the material solve. It is protocol, you know, you have to go to the class. You have to hand your work in you have to be prepared for exams and I always wanted to blend that and prioritize that in addition to or as complementing the actual teaching of the academics or preparing them for specific Sam or not. And over time. I started to collect a lot of materials that I used to do that calendars flowchart, you know sort of just efficiency to see if we can use that term and that's eventually what I put together that that made the book and then once said the book it was a lot easier to teach it cuz now I had a workbook and a kind of a tool to do it with faith. But I think what it comes down to is there's a lot of reasons why a student could be successful in school, but some of them are technical summer academic, but some are also motivation dead. And it's demotivating or unmotivating for kid when they don't have the right tools cuz I've seen a lot of kids and imagine parents out there as well. See I work work work. I studied X number of hours for them and I still gotta see well because sometimes there's an efficiency of time right just because you spend six hours prepping for something doesn't mean you're doing it. Well, so what missions became and remains giving students as much access as I can to this type the tools they need to have this efficiency and to be able to.

"Our customer, too. Not only famous and has this thing, but he is now one of our customers. We're gonna take care of him and we do that with you to bring that boat up for a week. I'll help you Every day. We're going to set up where to go. He's alive. They're going to be moving in closer to shore. Get in among the bandits right now. And you know, whatever is happening. We'll give me up to date and go out and makes you feel good. You go out there and hey, thanks for telling us where to go. Here's our wall eyes and you know it's great great publicity, okay? And the the other thing that I think is just actually magnificent. Especially if you're No, you go out. You catch him while he's with your small boat or you're on the charter. It doesn't make a difference. Part of the bait shop. There is a fish cleaning operation isn't there? Yes. What we do is we give him two versions. You bring your own boat and things that field of guys that like Ahmad, Um they like to clean your own. So that's fine. We have a station there for you that you could do that. And then also we have a commercial fish house on site, which you've got to see yourself of where I clean in the summertime were up to 80 100 Charitable today. Plus the general public. I mean, it is a massive operation. So if you feel like, you know what I want to go back, relax. I'm going to get my steak started and even just send them back tonight and we'll get him done and you've seen it firsthand. I mean it. Pretty crazy over there. As a matter of fact, I looked at Tommy Harris and I just said Why would I ever want to clean my fish? Isis? I could bring him here. Leave him Get my tags ever Come back the next day, Get my state. Get my soda pop wink wink. And go grill it outside at my town house there and then drop a line from the deck, which is right attached to that house hanging over the lake. I mean, Oh, my God, I can't even go on any more. How It just impressive. This whole thing is but back to the fishing mark. Those fish are As long as it doesn't ice up. Well there. Why don't I see fish anymore? Because that's always support from season, But I mean, those fish are gonna be there September. Those who is going to close in October, even November. You're going to have fish close in, right? The later the season. Chauncey, the closer they come, and then they stay close to the winner through the spring, and then they get their migration patterns and move out farther on the lake, But you know again, it's all about ice and what we do get. But you talk about November and December got some great vision and the other great spot about where we're at. I'm in considered the poor Clinton area and if you have a version looked at a map of the island the nice thing about that. You have a lot of war life later in the fall, we go any migration That hasn't happened, E they're on their way back. So there's fish everywhere. If you do get some wind There's a good chance you're still going to get out because we have a strong West wind launch autumn of Marblehead mature. You can go out there. It's going to be calm. You have a strong northeast wind launch off Taba and go right out there and you're gonna have Ah, good. Calm. Break along tab. So the nice thing is you have the island. And then when you come early and late you have those fish aren't very close to shore is charters. Well, you'll even be seeing us out. They're not not that far out all the month of May and everything. I'm only out 34 miles right out front. Oh, yeah. Which is you know A It's fantastic because it gives me as the fishermen more time on the water fishing. We're not making a long run. It gives the charter boat captains they're happy because they're able to stay closer in. They're able to get the fish for the people get more fish in the boat. And it's just It's a win win, but so many people don't realize it. If somebody wants to talk to you about this, how did they? What's the best way to do this? Well, the best way we have a secretary for the business, which is the smart thing, because you know, one or two people try to do too much, and you guys are frustrated. Don't get their phone calls answered that her name is misty. And our number for her right to her line is for 19. 635. 6326 And again. Her name is Misty. Mrs and Mr And she just does a great job. And if you have any questions That's who you want to call. Okay? It's for 19. Losers in 35. 6326 635. 63 to 6 you got okay? I want to make sure that because the people I want people to call and say, Hey, give me more information. What's going on? What's this? What's that? And like I said, you know off Once again, it's for 1963563. 26 correct. Yes, And they can always just go up on Facebook or the Web, and it's under mark one sportfishing and the lodges the bays edge. Yes, the basics. And once again I know Mark and I have talked about this several times. But when you could set up your charter I haven't not not a little bitch up a huge bait shop with, you know, some frozen foods and different things there in plenty of places to get, you know, fresh groceries and restaurants in the area. And then you can go fishing off the back of the townhouses, the townhouses or five stars, two full baths. I mean, we're talking modern, everything, folks. It's just you pinch yourself and say. Oh, my gosh, I gotta come back next week, and the one thing is going to be a very happy day for that. Your viewers of your radio is that We're really working hard on showing the women what to do. We won't let that secret out today. But go on up there and check him out. And they've already pre pre gave us their advertising. And we're already getting a great response of women that want to come out here and go fishing exactly. Well, Mark, Thanks so much for coming on the show and talk to me about all the fun stuff to do. And poor Clint, which I don't need to be convinced anymore, cause I'm going, but I mean, really, check this out. Enjoy it. Don't forget it's important. You can call misty at that phone number at 4196356326. Give her a call, asking for information on whether it's a townhouse is staying. There are the charter or the bait shop for anything, she'll be able to answer those questions, right? You got it. Let's go fishing. That's right, Mark.
