"Technological change is real It's fundamental But that doesn't mean the purchase price doesn't matter And the entry point doesn't matter So I think people who have benefited from this extreme low rate high liquidity environment where growth All manner of growth have been rewarded I think that's where the greatest correction will come And that of course is Mark Rowe and he was talking earlier with our Arab souther here at milk and he's the cofounder and CEO of Apollo but this is the thing we're talking about this reset coming out of the pandemic higher rate environment We talked a lot about stagflation here already at milking You know what is the right value for so many of these publicly held companies Yeah they're really stuck out to me from that part of the conversation Was that Rowan said that's where the greatest correction will come Not necessarily that's where the greatest correction happened already Because we're talking about some big names that are down 50 60 70% from their all time highs remain So how much further do they have to go Yeah but I also think you have to kind of layer it over This idea of private markets versus public markets private markets It's where you badly yield And if you do get some competition from those inflationary pressures then I guess from yields itself is does it take the blue mock that rose and what we're hearing from a lot of folks in milk and is no at least not yet that the resiliency here could continue at least for another year through 2023 Maybe it's in the 2024 where you have to start worrying a little bit more I mean even still we have seen sort of IPO volume really cooled down We have seen spacs cooled down not.

"Purchase price less leverage I'm very comfortable with the place we've chosen in the ecosystem I asked you earlier if a pollinated to change its business model to reflect the new reality and maybe it doesn't but do you need to change the way people think So it's happening It's what I do as CEO I mean what I say is I really can't do anything I could probably pick one thing and do it well But it wouldn't matter in the context of our business My only job is to change how people think And that is what I'm trying to do I'm trying them in each of our businesses to understand that for yield It's about safe spread How do you get save spread It's about massively scaling origination If you can't buy it in the public market you have to create it yourself So we wake up every day and we worry about origination I asked them to think about what's the journey that our clients are on The retail clients and the most sophisticated clients A year ago we had four people in global wealth We now have a 140 people in global wealth Global wealth will be a third of our new capital over the next 5 years A third a third I think about the other places in the world that we're looking We are late to the game in Asia in terms of really building out a presence I am fully convinced that Asia does not need another equity opportunity fund There's plenty of equity in Asia What age relax is yield and hybrid The banking system is 90% of credit creation We've recently sent over one of our most senior partners and his job is to get the bank market share from 90 to 89 I think he'll do that And so we do in the context of what we believe in the context of our competitive advantages particularly in yield and fixed income replacement Our job is to execute the plan that we've put out which is roughly to double our business but to do it in a way where we adhere to the promise that we've made to our clients which is excess return per unit of risk not just growth in AUM I promised I would get to some questions That was listening to the global Apollo global asset management CEO and cofounder Mark Rowe and fascinating discussion with bloomer business week's Eric schatzker about Apollo about the private equity business about alternative investing how that is continuing to be a market that is growing in size And of course fascinating stuff there But right.

"They watch their parents go through the great recession, Andre and they're deciding. This is this is what we want to do. We want to buy a house. We don't necessarily want to be in the center of the city, where maybe crowded. We want our own space. And so this is something good. That shocking scene says. It's happening for M I homes and I bet you it's happening with some of the other home builders as well. So for years mark, we were reading about how millennials we're stayed at home. They were staying in their parent's basement and you had it. The great recession was one of those But now they're venturing out there like okay, it's it's time. We've either saved enough money or this is a good investment. Now let's get out of Mom and Dad's house. Oh, yeah, I have a daughter is 27. She's a nurse and Children. She saved up so much money while she was going to school, And now she's out on her own. She's she's buying stuff, and she's really smart about her money. So I think going through that period millennial Saul what some of the struggles were they saw the bubble burst. They saw that it was important to save money, and now they're starting to open up and spend a little on some pretty wise investments. So by the way, I didn't know that you had a 27 year old daughter, and she works at nationwide Children's Yeah, it works at night on the the ICU. She does pretty good work. Well, you tell her. We said thank you. We appreciate because I'll tell you raising money and doing charitable events for nationwide. Children's it. It takes a special not anyone could go in there and do that kind of work, especially when you're dealing with Children. To be able to connect with those kids. So tell your daughter we said thank you will do will do One more. Mark Rowe, quick. This is a back and forth in you A with the Golden Bear Shopping Center project. On the developers now agreed to the original plan. What was this? What was going on with this? Well, if you drive down old Sandy River Riverside Drive. Excuse me down. We're fishing her meet Sit by the river. You'll know the Golden Bear shopping center. It's been there forever. It's mostly one story buildings, and there was a company that came in Arcadia Development of Ohio that said, We want to put in a five story center and the original plans called for a mix of residential They be a mix of office space and then some retail. But then, once the once a pandemic started, the developer came back and said, You know, we're going to really concentrate more on the residential because we can get more money up front and it would mean more profits for us at a time where we're not seeing a lot of them. The city of our Pearlington, however, because they're laying locked, there's not a lot of new office stuff going up, and that's how they make their money is off. The officers said. No way. We're not gonna let this project go forward. It's sat in limbo for quite some time. And then finally, this week, Arcadia Development came back and said, All right, we're gonna go back to the original $56 million development plan. We're going to put those offices in And a Burlington, which held the line said Fantastic Now we're gonna have some more revenue coming in our way as well. So mark is that the future of you a landlocked, you know, let's let's be honest. It's It's not cheap to live in your way on. One of the reasons obviously is it's you know, they're very protective of what they have there, and it is landlocked. That's another reason. But it is the future. Commercial retail. What is it? Yes, the city manager Steve showed me. He used to be the development director for the city of Columbus. And he understands how to make revenue And for a city like Upper Arlington, where you're not seeing more houses going up. You're not seeing office buildings going up. He wants that kind of dense. Construction that goes up vertically and then includes a lot of office space and retail and other things that the city of Burlington syntax and you know, it just makes sense for them. And he sees that light. Developers are going to start to get that picture and residents are gonna have to get used to it. All right, Mark Super Bowl 55 Sunday. I see you as a wind guy. What's your food for Sunday's game? Like dip too, And unfortunately I eat so much of it that I'm not hungry for anything else that okay, So you're the dip? Today, though, ABC is Mark Rowe, Malard reports, Facebook will ban posts that deny or distort the facts of the Holocaust. He spoke with Cuomo's Taylor van size. I think baseball comes from a different perspective in that mark sucker. Berg has often said that he doesn't want to really be too much in the business of regulating speech, and he's often said And he's gotten criticized for saying that he believes that remedy too bad or offensive speech is good speech, and so he has in the past, said that he would move to remove posts that encourage or incite violence. But misinformation, particularly about the Holocaust. You know he felt offensive material as he put it should be protected. But this has now changed. Facebook has decided that they will take action against Any material. That denies or distorts the Holocaust, as they say, and Mark, Dr Burke says that they think they found you know the right equation or the right balance. But it comes after a strong push led by Holocaust survivors, sending videos to fate to Zuckerberg personally to Dr Berg. One video every day for 75 days, And now the company has decided to make a change. You know, Holocaust denial would seem at least on the surface like an easy thing to say. Okay? Yeah, we will fight that Has Facebook. Is this the on ly issue that they're going to take an active role in censoring or arm or changes on the way there's always possible for more changes. In fact, just last week They took action against Q anon. The baseless conspiracy theory on they decided again. It was similar in a sense that they had taken an approach that said We will Take action against Q and on in relation to anything that promotes violence, but but as a part of the wider theory of it, they didn't want to get involved. However, they ended up taking action last week to remove All materials related to Cuba. Not now. They say they're not going after individual posts, but pages and groups on imposed instagram and Facebook that promote that material and spread that disinformation and so it will likely be similar or leased. The language from Facebook is very similar. When it comes to the Holocaust denial on, you know Definite change in stance for the company. But they certainly may have felt some pressure to take some action. And they're constantly felt pressure to take action against misinformation on their platform, and especially ahead of the election. There, there under a spotlight. Yeah, I was going to ask it. Was this an accident that they make this announcement? You know, just a few weeks before Election Day? No, probably not. Because the company like I said, it's been under a spotlight for Misinformation and one of the things that Facebook set about this decision, they felt it was supported by the well documented rise in anti Semitism globally and just for an example, the Anti Defamation League reported that white supremacist propaganda in the US alone Jumped by 120% in just the last two years. "And its millions of the same in all countries and at all age Right and marks its victim and announcing that exciting the public hatred. He could feel its own abusive encroachment, usually terrible start. So one of the things that happened here is like They kept using the child abuse. They kept using the fact that the HHS I have been in there twice, too. You know, interview the Children. They drop their case. They found those signs of abuse and drop their case from the property. My point is the proper authorities did go in and check all that. And yet the FBI and the especially still used all that information to demonize him so they could get away with what they did. You know, and that's what they did. They kept saying gun child abuse it over and over and over. They said, these things with having no current group whatsoever about that. Well and more than no proof by guys like Robert Gonzales, who infiltrated for the F reporting back there Not doing anything wrong and by CPS coming twice doing investigations and being cleared by CPS, as many parents will know is not the easiest thing in the world and they were cleared. It seems like the information was there. Just easily to be had And of all the things about Waco. I don't understand. That's what I don't understand when you've got a situation where all the evidence points out to it not being a dire problem. And meanwhile, the government is screaming its for the Children. I say to myself, what was really behind this and Of course, I don't know that any of us will ever know. But do you have any feelings on that? Yeah, I think any survivor. Anyone that studied with David would tell you it's because he actually Had something actually. Understood the scripture and a deeper way than most people. He always said the authorities were going to fight against him and his methods. It was always fighting against his methods that all this is happening, even mark well, who's the individual that left? And started to get the authorities involved. He loved that guy talked about missing Mark Rowe and wishing that he had never West and you know all the time, but that's the guy that left started that the authorities really involved. He said that Out of his Judas. If you know this was going to be the big heartbreak for him, it's his closest friend leaves and now fights against him, and he looked at very spiritual. He's not fighting against me in fighting against the truth. He's fighting against what I'm presenting here. And you know, there's one point I want to bring up that you actually reminded me of that is, you know, they said the early on. This is one of the first major lives, they said question ever left the house. They said, Why didn't you pick them up when he's driving? Partly? Surveillance, said he never left. Of course, all kinds of people from the city of wake of importance and how we use in our shop The other day, I'll do you one better that if you read some of the documents Just about nine days before the raid. They've aggression to of the undercover guys from across the street when two miles down the road to a shooting range and the shotguns together. And so they claimed. You never come out. We have documents of them shooting firearms with David Creche, so not only could they have gotten him, but there were always said they were afraid of him. That crazy is going to shoot them every time with the building. Why would you go to a shooting range and give a guy a semiautomatic weapon? You're investigating your afraid of that. So it's blowing my mind. I'm not just, you know, fun little fact for you well that things like this over and over, But we went over there Spect like this, and that's that's a big part of it. And, of course, some people think that the raid was basically a one day event, culminating after the FBI being there for months. But in fact There were a number of incurred incursions prior to that. And I guess the final incursion that was so deadly Janet Reno, who had been appointed at first, from what I gather from your book, There was almost a sense of relief that maybe she'd be the voice of the voice of reason. But instead She said. Well, they're preparing to commit suicide and kill all those Children. If it's not ended now, now that that comes from utter nonsense, and I understand that later, the FBI admitted that that was pure garbage. So it seems to me That there's a bigger picture here and may maybe it is just the picture of they don't want quote unquote the truth, But it seems to me like there's some part of this story that still missing about what motivated the government. Yes. I'd personally believe what motivated them was their budget. I think that with Randy Weaver, and that's going up so terribly terribly bad. Hey, did they win? And they that way, so it might be it now, you know, there's all kind of conspiratorial theories out there that I don't really get into. Because I just don't know, right. I only talk about the I had the documentation for seeing myself. You know that kind of thing. That's just how I I personally do it. But I know for a fact there budget was coming up and they're worried about losing out and what really blows my mind That fact that they still get their budget after Waco considering and and then some The eight month had known or something. Um It just blows their 10 million extra just for one night after they could screw up so thoroughly on that first day, 30 28. With all of the decision, making all the decision makers making the wrong decision, knowing that they lost element of surprise and went forward with great anyway, all the lives that they told to the American public. And then they still get money. And then 51. Days later, the FBI consistently lying about the people, you know, every day, there will be a press conference, they would say over sculpted this in crested that the culprit of this compound is fortified costs using these words to kind of spinning. Takes. We're not cake Tastes were called thieves, You know, Um, the flash bang grenade. They they weren't They weren't grenades or flash make grenades They didn't put, you know. See if gas civilians here Death The sniper was in a sniper. They call the sniper afford observer in all these little words, shots in the reality of what this is A military operation isn't supposed to be running a military operation. They got snipers ready to kill. Get helicopters that came in on the first day and shot into the building and killed two people. Winston Blake, It's Peter Jet. That's just that's That's the truth of what really took place still denied to the day that the helicopters Is there any shots fired from the helicopters? So it just goes on or not, you know everyday would watch the press conferences and there would be amputated became a joke because they would tell us one thing. A tactical managed to the exact up the following day, and then they would lie about it when they do the press conference. It was a triumph news. This triangle of love lives in the sea, and it just caused so much destruction. What it did is it made David questions message become more real with every day that path. And it made what they were trying to do, become more unreal and just convinced this they would just arrogant liars. And they had they had a very, very willing partner in the media. And this is this a star to finishing, including Oprah Winfrey. And so we'll talk a little about that, because I'm curious whether whether David was where if there was anybody in local media who clearly knew what was going on, who maybe had a dissenting view? "More rain forecasters say coming in Sunday night Monday and through the middle of next week this is All Things Considered from NPR news I'm Mary Louise Kelly in Washington and I'm Elsa Chang in Culver city California it could be a record month for layoffs due to concerns about the spread of the corona virus states have shut down thousands of businesses in the service and hospitality industries and companies in other industries are tightening up as the stock market has tumbled to talk about what this has done to the financial circumstances of workers I'm joined now by Jeff Donofrio he's the director of Michigan's department of labor and economic opportunity welcome thanks for having me are so why don't we just start with the latest numbers in Michigan how many people have applied for unemployment insurance this week versus last week well last three days alone we've had fifty five thousand people apply which is about a one thousand five hundred percent increase in the last week well okay so we have mentioned that the service industry is taking a huge hit is that where you are seeing a surge of unemployment insurance claims are using layoffs spreading broadly into other sectors I mean I know that yesterday the big three automakers said that they were shutting down production until the end of the month that's where it's at right now right isn't in that service industry but you know we do expect that it will expand especially as manufacturing and other durable good purchases slowed down we know that to education schools of course are closed down in Michigan here and you know so I think it's going to affect all parts of our economy all right let's talk about the process of applying for unemployment insurance in your state there have been widespread reports that the application website has been operating pretty slowly and people haven't been able to get through on the phone tell us what you're doing to make sure that people can get their claims and so we've we've tried to make it easier to apply for unemployment insurance can extend benefits so we've provided emergency support to those individuals were impact right now increase the number of weeks someone has unemployment insurance and that the the time they have to actually file we've also expanded unemployment insurance two sick workers or those were quarantined and don't have any leads are for those who are caring for loved ones and don't have to leave and for first responders at the same time we know that it's taxes of our systems right we've added capacity from the staff level we've made sure just a few months ago we upgraded our I. team call system which is really helped a lot and where other states I I think I've had trouble even websites crashing it so far we haven't had a a problem with it here well with respect to eligibility for unemployment you've mentioned that your state has expanded eligibility requirements now people who have to take care of sea sick kids or people who are immuno compromised can get benefits but let me ask you what about people who are self employed or people who are independent contractors will they be able to access unemployment insurance in Michigan that's a that's a real missing piece and I know that governor Whitmer and others have called on the president to declare eight emergency disaster through FEMA which would actually actually expand coverage for individuals for ten ninety nine those independent contractors who otherwise are covered by unemployment insurance at the state level what are people who have not been laid off but who have had their hours cut are you considering expanding benefits to them we're definitely considering it in fact we have a work share program which helps employers who are looking to avoid layoffs that we would actually subsidize their payroll when they cut back on individual hours for employees so that's that we waive some of the rules for that was expanded it greatly and we've had a huge amount of interest here in the state of Michigan were you at the department of labor and economic opportunity during the recession no I was actually working in Congress so I was at a working for John Dingell who was helping I think I do a lot with the auto industry and making sure that there was really jobs to come back to after the recession and so I witnessed it for on the first hand on the front lines of Capitol Hill well being in public service then versus now I mean how different does it feel now well I definitely feel similar I think the difference here is of course that was an economic crisis this is both an economic crisis and a public health crisis and so I think the dynamic is a bit different but I can tell you're you know my team is energetic your you know it's public service were really odd trying to run towards the the sound of the guns right towards the crisis at hand I think everyone has a good to make sure that we get support to the people of Michigan out when they need it well I wish you and your team the best of luck Jeff Donofrio is the director of Michigan's department of labor and economic opportunity thank you very much for joining
