You know, I think it's silly Goose. There is not, um It's not even with me and obviously device as the best wide receiver in the NFL, and it's not even close. I've been saying that for Ever. Ever since I got in the league, um And I did that. Something to say that you guys better than me, Um, especially my position, But no, not even the stats mean I was thinking That's our, you know, crazy, but you know, just the way he goes about his business every single day. You do one actor, a better leader. No better bet have in the room to show you the ropes, a better gotta learn from And then just put are offense. You know any given game, it could be somebody new. You know, it's just not always advantage. We got, you know a great running back. Great quarterback. Great wide receivers. Um, great backup running back like it's a great title. And so the list goes on and on, um And I think that you know, just With so many talented guys on our side of the ball, you know, we could pretty much do anything we want on on Austin you no longer on the same page. Not Quite back to full strength the at but we're getting there saucy still in Vegas I. Think he maybe I don't know I. Don't know where it's at. But Zach is here and Brianna here. John Boehner should be here momentarily Carl. You'll be here. Did you just say John Boehner, get carly Zipper will be here in just a bit. Nobody okay. Thank you Mark Roosevelt Bit as well and That's that. That sounded more like chef from south. Live from his palatial mansion. It's coming out both ends, Ladies and gentlemen. PUGH. had vomit. Diarrhea. None of that's true. Are you sure none of that's true. Yeah no not that kind of sick. I feel way better. No, it was never coming out of either end. That's too bad sick brag literally. Just. Not that. Regular. That small. Can you hear Zach need to fix anything doing okay. All sounds good on my end. It sounds good on yours sounds. A little a little stuffed up stopped up how much better than yesterday really that that. Yeah we're getting there though getting better. Died have we confirmed or denied that we have the the plague of our lifetime yet I get saliva tested yesterday. What about forever? Well. Yeah. Every time in the past and I've had a saliva test I've basically pass it because I've listened to him and I said this sucks and that was the correct answer. Yeah, right. But No when When Zach was Kobe positive way to go Zach and all of us had to get tested what I don't know was that a month and a half ago two months ago more than ones that now. million. Years ago yeah timber. Yeah I did the old. Drive through Maple Grove. Right where you just stick your head out the window and they shove a thing up your nose and you move on with your life. Well. So I called them a couple of days ago because I don't feel like this is Kobe but you know what you gotta be careful and check. because I have a couple of symptoms that overlap with colds and Flus and covert and everything but I never had a fever at all never got over ninety nine but I've been stuffed up sore throat coughing a little bit and I'm like. This is in a normal year. This would just be normal sickness, but Mike Girls got as well. So we all went and got tested anyway. you have the saliva test is kind of weird man. went to this basically upended building in Brooklyn Park. And, it felt like outbreak. There is like one hundred people standing at the tables. And then one hundred people helping that all have you know basically has met suits for at least half asked has met suits. This experience right and you spit into a tube for like five minutes. So you went to an abandoned building. Fallen for the yeah. Giving myself my own covert. You did what? You guys were like, ooh, I don't know if that was how Israel. Okay well, I had to do it myself too I'm sure you did stuck up there and it was my my eyes have never watered so much in my life I am patently against the idea of having to do that myself. Good Morning John Boehner, cycles, I would John I. Think every person in the world would rather do a saliva test because you spent like a half a gallon in Dolo Cup, right? Yeah. It says it takes you like ten minutes but if you really built it up and just go forward I got through it in about three or four minutes I just went for it and. We're taking their time for sure. So it's super simple, and then I guess you get results back within thirty six to forty eight hours. So the plant is since I'm trying to in the right way symptom wise outside of still being a little stuffed up. as soon as my symptoms are gone and the Kobe test is negative that I'm I'm hopefully backed by like. Thursday right. If everything stays on pay so I get it they're treating. Any symptoms basically like Kovic symptoms because y y risk it from a corporate perspective. So they're they're saying I gotta stay home until it's all clear which makes it. So well. Obviously anytime anybody is in danger of carrying in here there were in danger of giving it every person in the station to the entire station shut. Why I was gone last week, which is why you're gone today but correct by the way that means you're missing drink drake time tomorrow two dozen yeah I'm not super thrilled about that. That's that was Super Fun back in the day so it does suck that I doubt I will be. Cleared by then, but we'll see but you never I mean I guess you never know if if I feel well, I know I got up to ask Gavin. I guess. But if I get the results back before tomorrow morning my guess it's possible but. Maybe a little unlikely. Who knows either way? Who's WHO's technically on tap that go drink and the question was about to ask bonus here in right I can be in you are in. Okay. You're on the list of John. Bonus Bryanne your. Cattle Giddy up. Zach urine obviously a baby. Or? Are you a an angry drunk fund drunk are you a truth serum drunk? I'm a very fun drunk but tomorrow to make these guys Kinda work for it might make kind of be a problem. Because I would never dream of being difficult to law enforcement in my life, right? Maybe. Kind of pull that card and. Now, you're going to be hard to deal with for the. GOING TO BE Looking forward it's GonNa be fun. I. Don't know I have no idea of sauces coming into that but man I got a couple of saw stories for you. I can only imagine yeah, I got a couple as well but. I have my new favorite nickname to but let's get through the list and I'll tell you Paul's new nickname if if you didn't say yesterday on the show, I have no idea. No, no, it's. It's if this nickname doesn't stick I'M GONNA. Be. pissed. That good. It's not. It's not from me. It's from A and company in Vegas but if this doesn't stick, I'm going to be furious. Anything about it we'll get we'll real quick. So obviously me and an bonus. Bryanne Zach Marnie as far as I know making sure but I I believe. We're finding out today of carly is going to be able to make you tonight Aj and perish will both be they're both will not be drinking, but they will be there to egg on. Our good friend Ben who used to work at this radio station is going to join us as well. The Guy who beat you a poker every time he plays with you. So We're not sure about saas yet but. As of right now that we've got so we're we're moving, I tried I you know I I can't believe the entire sheriff's department couldn't change their plan. For us, but they cannot. So yesterday, you had the rare opportunity to have sauce and I both gone right and basically the Mo of this show is whichever member of the three power trip morning joe members gone the other to rip the one that's gone right? That's pretty standard. Yesterday you had the rare opportunity to rip both of. Either one of us was there. and I and I heard this story about the Cherry Hill debacle with cultivated CBD SAAS complained he was the only one that didn't get it and Blah Blah Blah. Blah. "Yeah. I've talked to a lot of folks who have very high opinion of mighty men and the job that he's done. And I, I have no in Boston to shame of pioneer institute where we're public policy institute very interested in education trying to schools, high red. And we just looking at the plane faxing, you know. What is this, a stain -able for a for a university system to go through this massive expansion at this time, you know, and they and I think that kind of the chickens have come home to roost. Because the financial pressures coming on the university now because I don't think it's a stain -able. Yeah. They're going to have to do something about that. Definitely. Are you? I'm not sure if this is your area of expertise, but the legislature did something recently that was pretty troubling to me when it comes to charter schools, they blocked. A New Bedford charter school. From expanding into a new building. They wanted to wanted to shift to a new campus. There's an old public school building, I think, and legislature blocked it from even from them even trying to do it. And the way they did. It was too, you know, procedural roadblocks put up see roadblocks legislature. So it wouldn't even come for a vote were you guys following that or? Phone, very, very carefully. Yeah. Pyner institute with was one of the leading groups kinda advocating for products cools. In fact, at pioneers, to one of my qualities, working here is Tom Birmingham, used to be the Senate president. He wasn't. He was one of the agents. So the education reform act that led to an casts and try to school. So with you know that try to school that you're talking about into Bedford is fantastic charter school. I mean it is it's famously good and the waiting list to get into. It is gigantic. You have to win a lottery to get into it and the, the mayor down there who who was. I think he's a Harvard grad, he's a. Originally. He was he was very few of in his praise for this particular school. But then at the end of the day, you know, it's, it's like the, you know, collective bargaining labor the teacher's union, so and so forth death against charter school. So to me, it's not. Right. You know, I mean these inner city kids in bed for those kids are up against it, especially young coming up fourteen fifteen years old. It's tough world. And so if there's an opportunity for, for family to send their kid to a school that's rank high in the state, it's like a little gym right in their backyard. I don't get why they're shutting down. It's like shooting yourself in the foot. It's terrible. You concern about the way the legislature went about it to not even to allow vote basically blocking it from even coming up. Well, you know, I, I served in the state legislature for seventeen years. Yeah. And it doesn't surprise me that the legislature would do that because they've been they've been like a, you know, an eye in curtain against charter schools, because there's so much political pressure by teachers, not to not Acilitator it. And if but back in the day in the time that, like if president Birmingham the Mark Roosevelt, and those people, you know, these are urban liberals, they, they were urban liberals, but they, but they would twenty to find a way to have people live in inner cities, like Brockton, you know, Lawrence New Bedford, Springfield, Lawrence, Lowell chicopee that we're the school systems are really rough to give the parents and the kids chance to go to a good school. I mean they saw in that view and it's really too bad that the leadership is not. There people rise up like we had back in the day. Yeah. They instead they have people seemingly do what the unions want them to do. This is not to say that charter schools, and they don't. They're I'm sure they're bad charter schools, as well as good ones. But, you know, it just seemed like the way they did it. That was a little sneaky, the legislature, did it because they knew the time frame, they knew the timeframe of that, that, that they could delay. And they just kept delaying delaying it till they couldn't do it anymore. And what they wanted to do was to go away from a lottery system. Is that correct? The school wanted to go away from the lottery and do like more of a local school choice gotta thing, right? That's right. You know, we down in New York, there's a, there's a city councillor down, who, who retired and she started about ten charter schools in New York. And they were really, really. She's an African Americans. The constituency student body was almost all of them African American Hispanic and they were like you know, is ranked in the top one percent of all the city schools in the city did the same thing. They said no, they, they block them from a new facility. They victim from the facility all the pressure came on it. But man, but there was a March on Sydney hall, and they think they sent like two hundred buses full of people up to Albany in New York fight it. You know what I'm saying is, I wish people would down in New Bedford in the state would rise up and say, hey, you know, why are you depriving families of this opportunity? It's just not. Right. It's I think it's very unfair and unwise. Right. Well, Greg, I want to thank you very much for joining us here on bat and the pioneer institute you guys do a great job over there covering various issues and holding holding government accountable. Well, we feel the same way about you Joe and you're a great coverage of national in state. It's really fabulous. Thanks. I really appreciate it. Thanks. Okay. I'd say that's a pretty good way to describe him. We'll get to later on though right now, it's time for the Trump line. The only thing. Bernie Sanders is Harry car on. "But these are people that he beat running far behind former Senator George back rack and Watertown and state Senator Michael Barrett of Cambridge backtrack and Barrett both maintain that their candidate was alive, and well, but backtrack raised expectations in the weeks leading up to the convention seemed the most damaged by the result. And apparently Menino had gotten behind back rack. So I think that that was Nino for some reason decided that he was so angry about back losing. I don't know know, it was a very rare decision. This would be like, for example. If Marty Walsh were to go out in a primary, I suppose and back Dan co over Laurie trae hand, I don't know. But. You know, and then refused to back trae hand, which of course, Marty washes is too smart to do. I mean, he's definitely thrown support behind Laurie train hand as as you're supposed to. But let's I just want to read this through some Boston with about two hundred this is all democratic Massachusetts convention stuff. It's a bit in the weeds. But it is sort of interesting Boston with about two hundred twenty five delegates became a key. Battleground when mayor Thomas Menino pass the word that he would like city delegates to support backtrack. Now course. Marty walsh. Can we'll do similar things during during the convention. I think he did that with Zakum anyway, going on that development was treated as a great victory within the ranks of the backpack campaign Roosevelt, the only Boston candidate in the race acknowledged that. She was disappointed by minnows decision. Our? That's a slam right there. Well, Roosevelt had to try and surmount the influence of Menino. He did have the support of Senate president William Bulger said he was backing his Boston collie an added. I think we're persuading some people. So that was the other thing was. It really matters, obviously. Especially in Boston who can get out the vote, and for whatever reason Menino just never came around to Roosevelt and the other the other interesting thing, of course, is that teddy Kennedy did support Roosevelt. But the issue there was that teddy Kennedy had his own serious race to run. He wasn't really, you know, he wasn't in shape to challenge. Anybody? Bat reference to know. It could be. You know, he was too busy fending off Romney. Yeah. Yeah. He was he was definitely too busy. I don't remember Kennedy getting involved very much at all in the Roosevelt campaign during that year because because of the challenge he he plays Ronnie, but he did he did. He might you know, he obviously didn't have any coke. Kennedy ended up winning by a pretty large margin over Rodney. But obviously that didn't matter. This is another case of I think it's another case of Massachusetts voters separating out the governor's race. From for whatever reason in the state for a long time for decades voters have separated out the governor's range from other races. So in other words, there's been no impact even though other other statewide Democrats, maybe winning handily or. Ted Kennedy, or in this case, it was the one, you know, there's there's no coat-tails. There's no chance that that voters have cost over inside. Okay voters. There's no chance that they would just ticket quick. Yeah. I think that's a tribute to Massachusetts voters that they're able to separate us out. Not just go down the line because I got a mailing from my from the state Democratic Party over the weekend that you said both the check it both the democratic cricket, obviously, that's the message. And that's what they're hoping to get on tomorrow. But it's a happen. Yeah. Agreed. And and something that that Roosevelt learned only too. Well, and I mean, that's that's the thing that guy was sort of left high and dry. It felt like in many places. I mean, I don't know how good of a fundraiser. Billy Bolger was but. Yeah. Definitely. I don't think you raise money for other. I think would be good for them south, right? I don't recall him being don't they? Carey care. I don't recall them making it that big of a priority the Roosevelt campaign and at the time, you know, boulder was seen as like the the enemy on beacon hill ninety four. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So even though weld was working with a already right later appointment to head. But but I'm sorry. I did Romney point where I think Romney. Anyway, maybe well did the. It wasn't Romney. Yeah. He was he was he was he was sort of seen as like the culture on beacon hill that we have to change. And so I don't even know why I don't think Roosevelt. Would he be much have wanted his big support? Yeah. I mean, it seemed as though he was he was. It was very helpful during the actual convention, and then later, I suppose during the primary, but once you get past the primary it's more of a hindrance, I guess than a help. Whereas Jagan Zala people like Elizabeth Warren people like a Yana Presley even people like sorta superstar downs. Joe Kennedy, for example, maybe? Would be very helpful for Jason Zola's. I think as you said there's plenty of events with with them in the last two days before the election. But I don't I mean, I just don't see it being enough. Yeah. I think I think Joe Kennedy has helped out before more this. He may he may have extended a little more energy than the others. But I don't I don't see. Really know that much. She's I mean, she obviously won her way Shaw ready. But. So she doesn't have to worry about that. But, but you know, it would be I think they feel losing caused you really hard to get the height when somebody's trailing. Oh, yeah. It's so demoralizing, you know, it's like why bother why do you want to expand all that energy? When he know somebody's gonna lose. Yeah. Absolutely. And that was basically what what what Roosevelt was facing was not very good. Not only was he was he at a financial disadvantage. He definitely didn't have. I think weld outspent him something like seven to one. He couldn't sorta get his own message out there. And then he also course just didn't have the buzz and didn't have the excitement or or anything from his fellow Democrats to help him hour or to boost him from being an unknown to maybe a more known quantity. The thing that is interesting though, or maybe that's different. Least is that this time around. Back then in ninety four. It was Bill Clinton was was the president. And there wasn't the Trump situation that we're facing. Now. I mean, for whatever reason it seems like Massachusetts candidates have been have been able to to isolate themselves from that impact. But that is that is the difference. I guess between the Roosevelt weld race. And Gonzales Baker race. Yeah. I mean, even with that. That's the impressive thing about baker's margin in the falls that even with, you know, Trump is president that strategy has completely failed kind of tie. Charlie Baker to Donald Trump. And you know, they didn't have the Roosevelt campaign didn't have that kind of weapon. And so, you know, it may end up hopping Baker some votes, the whole Trump thing. But I don't think I don't think it's highly enough to to be up in the land Friday that's going to happen. Just out of curiosity. Joe Batten felt what do you think about? I mean like down ticket candidates, and what sort of impact that ends up happening. Do you think that for example? You know, I don't know looks like it's funny because it looked like weld got more involved overall for Republicans like we were saying, he certainly. He included other other Democrats in his three fatty acids. Right. Well, doesn't really lifted of I mean in terms of of statewide high profile events, you know, it doesn't seem as though that's been something that baker's really done. No, he hasn't. He hasn't done that at all. So. Republicans are going to look back on it. I think it's another reason why people get so why Republicans get so frustrated with Charlie Baker. You know, that he hasn't been loyal to a party have been totally in been totally not not only. Foil for the party. But he hasn't. He hasn't. Work granny. Good good Republican or good Republican candidates out there. They're actually party was able to peel some decent candidates this time around. They don't always which they haven't always had. So now that they have you don't see Baker. It doesn't seem to matter. Bicker hasn't hasn't listed here for them. All right. Joe Batten, feld any other. I mean, I know obviously you covering Romney Kennedy anything else from that gubernatorial, the Aera call. I mean, it was. Some the gecko. Remember Dukakis was still a looming. Figuring that race because people were so turned off by you cocky, one well one thousand nine hundred ninety. No in the big anti Dukakis backlash because he had run for president at the time. And they caught the economy really tanked at the time in nineteen ninety. And so there was a lot of frustration. And you know, the budget will way out of balance, and that was Dukakis assault. But there was a lot of anger towards Dukakis. I think still that they were trying to be weld campaign was trying to tie into trying to tie Roosevelt back to the Dukakis era of like tax hikes and spending hike. Yes. That was a there was a good line from weld in one of the debates about that. And and yeah, certainly talking about we're going to return to high taxes, you know, that was a big scare people were definitely worried about that. Yeah. Yeah. They didn't do not want to go back to do Kakish. Definitely. All right. Well, listen appreciate your insights on this race. We'll have to see how can how Gonzales fares against Charlie Baker. Thanks again. Joe and south. Okay. Thank you. Just I mean, I'm looking at one article and it was written back in nineteen ninety four. And if you just supplanted the names of Roosevelt, and the other fellow Democrats who were big at the time with if you just supplanted it with j Gonzales and fellow Democrats that are big right now, it could almost be the same story. Basically it says. And this is the thing. It's the same with the hearts minds and wallets of many Democrats devoted to saving Edward Kennedy from political extinction, and that's not exactly accurate, but you could say that hearts minds and wallets are devoted to Elizabeth Warren. It's not trying to save her. But they're certainly focused on her democratic gubernatorial nominee, Mark Roosevelt. Sometimes seems to be struggling alone in the shadows. Like, that's absolutely. We're Jagan Zola's has been from the beginning day after day the vastly out funded Roosevelt tries to make a case against governor weld on issues of ethics crime or education with nary a big name democratic ally such as Paul Tsongas or Scott Harshbarger by his side. So it's like absolutely the same thing. I mean, and the thing is this mentions big name democratic ally. I guess what they started Harshbarger was the AG. So that would totally fit because certainly more Healy now, she's not. Nowadays, she might be part of a larger democratic group that includes Jagan Zala, but she wasn't doing any summertime. Campaigning four Gonzales. Neither were any sort of big name. I don't know what Songas was at the time. If he was congressman. Yeah. So I haven't seen any big name, certainly congress democratic congressman helping Jagan Zola's out. So it's the same. It's basically the same thing is a liberal activists who supply much of the democratic party's energy and field organization. Have eagerly responded to the SOS put out by the Kennedy campaign, but many liberals remain cool to Roosevelt, and this is actually where they differ a little bit. The liberals are cool to Roosevelt in part because he supports the death penalty and has challenged. Yeah. Right. So just imagine in one thousand nine hundred four was absolutely much more possible than it would be J that democrat conservative democrat would support the death penalty. And apparently, he challenged liberal orthodoxy on welfare term limits and role government can play in people's lives while it sounds like he was going a little libertarian there. Yeah. He wanted. He wanted some limits on welfare wanted turn limits, certainly which is a very libertarian sort of thing. And he wanted to limit the role government can play in your life, which is sort of what libertarianism red flag? Yeah. Liberal downs. Yeah. No, no. No, no. No, no..

"Work the paycheck stops. So. I read the being called lazy by you is like being called ugly by toad wine before I heard Roosevelt deliberate, and it sounded far better in my head with him delivering it. I mean, he he just didn't really deliver it all that. Well, you could also tell that welds wind up to the. You stop getting a paycheck. If you don't show up is also why I just also sort of wasn't delivered with with as much passion as well. Definitely seems more in the game. There's there is an article by baton fouled that goes basically writes about the first performance, and how terrible it was apparently. And how it just, you know, weld seemed like he didn't really. And so and so at least he he followed up on that. But yeah, I mean, I think that. The deal with with Gonzalez's is that he's in the same place. Listen Gonzales, had a good debate too. Right. I mean, there was at least I think it was the second one Baker did really. Well did. Well in the first debate, nothing changed. I'd say, right. It was basically like Baker Gonzales debate. Gonzales did his best to sort of shake Baker off his game. But it didn't work then there was the second debate. And Gonzales was like able to get Baker on the ropes by asking him. Why is he supporting deal if he's not going to vote for him? Right. You couldn't answer about whether he's going to vote for deal or not. That was sort of almost by accident. He was able to get on the ropes. He actually was able to do. So and even with that, it doesn't seem like Gonzales. I mean debates, you know, do your very best. Sometimes it doesn't actually sway votes. No. Yeah. Absolutely. I think you're you're absolutely right. Although I was a little bit impressed with the gob Roosevelt. When I heard you sound small and things, but the copy of what he said, I thought it was good. I had no idea speaking of Gonzales and in Roosevelt. Yeah. Massey. Now, that's the link the link that was Roosevelt's until the governor. That's awesome. God that is that's fabulous. I love it. I love it. You know, you stick around long enough. Eventually, you get some sort of weird connection there with that. Joe Biden fell joining us. Joe Batten feld, thanks for joining us on animal house, and one of the reasons I reached out to you is because I was looking at coverage of these debates, and you covered I think the first debate or reaction to the first debate between weld and Roosevelt and weld. Didn't do very well not debate, right? I remember that debate. Yes. I have a feeling it's scorched into your memory. You'll never forget it. Whatever I said in the story. All right. So do you have any then impressions? I do. Remember that? I do remember the the election, and I think well, I think. As I recall seriously. I think he was barking to that debate. Yes. You knew he knew that he had the election on already. And so he barely even showed up, and it was kind of kind of an arrogant thing. Yes. I'm here with anyway. So he thinks that he didn't really have to show up to debate. Here we go. This is baton. You're good Banfield. You're right on top vetted says well, suffered some slippage after last week's subpar debate job out and feld wrote. But he maintains a healthy two to one lead into the campaign's final two weeks. Where exactly where you working out of job out? And felt when you when you were writing this stuff. Where were they working nineteen Ninety-four? Yeah. I was I was at the herald the old officers. Statehouse? No, I was I was covering. Covering mostly the Romney Kennedy brace that was the big the big Martine race that year. Yeah. Well, and the well was about secondary. Because. Focused on Bobby Kennedy. You know, historic implications of all that and the governor's race was everyone seems to be so bad. Four. Coverage stop. Well, one thing the one thing I remember mostly is the negative ads that Bill wild ran against four. Mark rose about the guy. The guy was already down. The. Well, campaign had the pile on and they put out this ad of. I think they were called the three fatty. May know this. But. It was an all like silent. Movie trio they predated the three they were basically like the three stooges. Okay, violent movie silent movie version of. Streep backed is pretty southern. Fell down and stuff like that. And. Bouncing on a trampoline or something that I recall, but he made he made while he made Mark prepared. Roosevelt, and the Democrats three fatty gave. Not not like physically fat or anything like that. Spending on beacon Bill or something like that. But it was it was really overkill. Utter. Anyway. The most memorable memorable ads of the pain. Yeah. It's interesting. Because certainly that's at least one one point where he differs with Baker. You know, certainly Baker hasn't bothered to come out with negative ads against Gonzales because guess what he really doesn't have to. And maybe maybe weld should have followed the same thing. So listen to this. I've got I've got the sort of description. I guess it says despite holding a better than three to one advantage in the pulse. Governor William F, well launched a tough television advertisement attacking democrat Mark Roosevelt's legislative record in an ad titled remember the weld campaign. Blast Roosevelt stand on fiscal economic and crying issues and employers voters, don't give them a second chance the ad begins. Remember when Massachusetts seemed out of control taxes where sky rocketing. Mike Roosevelt sent them. Higher criminals seemed to have more rights than victims. Mark roosevelt. Never understood. It the ad contends that Roosevelt a state rep from beacon hill voted against trying juvenile, rapists and muggers adults voted against boot camps and oppose the death penalty. So there you go. That's doesn't sound like the one obviously, you were describing. But it seems like even even in the last days of the campaign. I'm reading this. This is this is November fourth of nineteen ninety four weld is following up with a drubbing or. You know, doesn't care that. It's three to one in the polls. He's going to really go nuts. And I don't know. You know, Joe was this. It seemed like maybe this is back in the day where negative ads didn't hurt a candidate as much. It's an odd decision. Well, it's part. They were almost more acceptable back. Then this is this is after the air of the Willie Horton ad. They were there were there were there were very common negative ads were. I think the idea in a game plan and they follow the game plan. No matter what even even after all, we're showing cruising too. Big win followed the game plan, and it was too too. Good to resist. I think for them. You know back on the negative already had him in. And they figured they. Putting unusual to run back and surprise. It was that close to election day. 'cause usually you finish up with the positives. Yes. Yeah. By the way. This case it wouldn't it looks as though welded dubbed them the ticket. Roosevelt. Yes. Yeah. So sounded as though they were they were pretty much behind from the get-go. And the reason why I'm covering this to some extent is because is because Borgen's Allah's is facing just as bad odds. I mean, certainly he is totally out out fund raised as Roosevelt was I think that when it comes to democratic support. I mean, one of the interesting things about last week was. That while while Charlie Baker recently has had some some issues explaining why he supports maybe a Geoff Diehl, and then why he supports maybe a j McMahon over more. Healy suddenly Delina was on the spot house speaker Robert deleo was asked you know, who is he going to vote for is he going to vote for Gonzales. And why and it was basically the same situation where we're deleo was sort of just having in hiring and said that he was gonna vote for Zola's because of the ticket, and that was really that was really it. Very uncomfortable. Yeah. Do you see similarities in in these two races? That's the way. I mean, they have. They have a big tall governor going after a short democratic short democratic challenger physically. Anyway. But it was it was never even close. Either race was either with even close and in some ways, I think the Baker campaign. It hasn't been a little overkill the amount of money that they don't they don't necessarily need to be funding all their money on these. You know, all you see on TV ads for the Baker campaign and poor. Mark roosevelt. Can't even afford his own ad. I think he I think they have one ad, but I don't I don't even recall seeing it on TV and addition to the to all the money they're spending. I think seven million so far or something like that on the campaign. The welcome. I mean, they could campaign they've gotten huge infusion. Governors association. I throw him on his last week. Has. Gordon? Nearly seven billion dollars into the into supporting a Baker campaign. The. Group that they call the the superpac Comey. What's the name of? Which I can't remember the name some generic Commonwealth future. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Iraq. And. Basically what it is. Almost entirely by Dr J, but. But surprising that they are has been spending this much money on a race. Essentially been over from the very beginning. And I wonder if they don't have other priorities that there should be spending money on the Charlie Baker. Yeah. For example, Florida or Georgia. Certainly. Governor is in New Hampshire. Right. So what are the other ways that j Gonzales is very similar to to Mark Roosevelt? Is the fact that he can't really get any respect when it comes to Democrats. He couldn't get any fundraising help. I mean, I was just talking to Tom about this. If Elizabeth Warren did at even just one Email fundraising Email where they asked she asked folks to donate to Jagan Zola's, he would've zoomed he he would have had a big hefty chunk of money out of that. It just seems like he's while they're giving him tacit endorsement could do that though. Federal Cam candidate. So I I don't know what she can do actually a fundraising picture. Maybe not. I don't see why. I don't I don't. I can't imagine how I mean, if the president can can I stomp for for whoever he wants, you know, I don't I don't think that there's any limits on stumping, I go ahead. She could certainly have emphasized worked harder for Gonzalez. I mean, he's been out of state. I think more than she has been campaigning dollars here at home change focused on candidates in other states right now, even toward the end of the campaign. She was out of state. Kept painting. Thinking about the future putting rental campaign. So she could have stayed at all. War. Fundraising pitcher, or whatever whatever would be. I mean, she has she has done a couple rallies with them. I think she's finishing up with the valley tonight with. Yeah. He's. It hasn't been that. It hasn't been that intense. And you know, you could say the same thing about Baker Baker. Baker has had a great chance. I thank the jump into the secretary of state wage. Why he wants to stay away from deal, but and and gaming man, Anthony, and who who's willing to you know. A candidate for secretary of state while qualified running against the dark Knight Bill Galvin, right? He could've could've expanded resources. Right. Thank you for more sources holding. I'm not sure if he putting any fundraising about them. But yeah. Agreed. There's there's some really good. Yeah. There's some good Republican candidates out there. And even though I think he did do I don't know how much he did for Kiko oral. But. It seemed like that. Is something that could've used more of a boost as well. Yeah. Yeah. I think he did like one or two Abacha fundraising about now. Oh. When he was at the. Editorial board. Really wanted nothing to do with questions about other candidates. Yes. True. He was focused entirely on race. And you know, it's one thing to be focused on your whole by forty points. I mean, you don't need to be just laser beam focus. Well, I do have. Democrat. I think there is a. There is a. Well to the Roosevelt paying a lot of Democrats supporting rose about I looked at the final numbers. Did you did you give the final hours? So that twenty eight percent. You are. He only got. Well, we're going to be looking at. Yeah. Yep. Exactly. And by the way, I was able to find a small snippet on the three Saturday's largest, it was it was impossible politics. And it was looking at the different ads in and sort of giving awards for different ads, and this one was was voted the largest TV ad, obviously. Because of the fatty he's governor weld of happy three stooges contemporaries to three fatty to portray three democratic candidates, even Dennis Tardelli, the GOP cheer and in Quincy who tips the scales at about three hundred pounds Wade into tell well that the ad was insensitive to the way challenged. Democrat Mark Roosevelt's media consultant. Mike shea was asked if he thought the Bill the would pull the ad shea deadpanned fat chance, which is a good line. Pretty good line. So I mean, this is the interesting thing though, that struck me at the very least in name only Marty Walsh has given said he's going to vote for hours. And so has Robert deleo even though they really haven't done that much to help the guy in the race between Roosevelt and weld. Nino refused to endorse Roosevelt. He didn't do anything. And I'm now realizing why it seemed as though, and this is basically Roosevelt. Managed. Combination. By a slim margin. I'm having trouble hearing having trouble was whatever papers your inkling. I can really hear it. I don't know. I hear something in the background. It's very loud. I'm sorry. That's okay. All right. So this is a story. It says even though he may have faced a primary challenge. Roosevelt. The thirty eight year old great great grandson of Theodore Roosevelt, train insights on weld. And so it goes on..

"As well here. And it hasn't really gotten a lot of news because it's not looking very close. Basically, we got democrat j Gonzales a challenging the incumbent Charlie Baker. And there's so many parallels here, of course to to this old race, and it was. Between Mark Roosevelt and Bill weld, and the deal is I mean, Charlie Baker was actually worked for the weld administration at one point. Roosevelt lost by historic numbers. Basically twenty eight percent of the vote which is brutal. Nobody is lost by that much. I guess so that's a shellacking, and there's just so much connection between Baker and well, not as much of a connection, of course, between Roosevelt and Gonzales, but very similar things occurring to these democratic candidates. So for example. You know, Gonzales had a heck of a time getting any sort of democratic support. Listen guy. The guy was trying to get some strong. Backing here if real fundraisers in particular, Elizabeth Warren, Elizabeth Warren writes, a fundraising Email, you are like in the money. This woman is known for her fundraising prowess. Didn't do anything for Jagan. Zola's Marty Walsh. Other prominent Democrats here could have come in and helped and they really didn't. He he's just been sort of left to do what he can. And and so that's been really tough and same thing happened to Roosevelt, and it was almost I feel like worse for Roosevelt because. He at least he didn't even get the mayor's endorsement so back in the day Menino would not endorse Roosevelt, which is pretty crazy apparently Menino was working. So well with weld at the time, this is one thousand nine hundred four that that. He just ran away. He just wouldn't say anything. Looking at a at a column by. From the globe. But I mean, there's a lot written up about this. We're gonna be talking to Joe Batten filled in just a little bit. And he actually covered one of these debates. Apparently there were two two beats I believe between Roosevelt and wild at the time. And the first debate they're both in October the first one in early October weld was terrible. He was on any and people were just talking about what horrific job he did. And how he just you know. But the thing is it didn't matter because none of the Democrats were really working very hard for Roosevelt. He was not seen as a serious candidate. And it just didn't. Then again, you know. Well, did bring a better performance in the second debate, which one. When we listen to that debate, at least one of those back and forth. So well realized he sounded and looked like total dope in the first debate against Roosevelt. And you realize he's got to do something. Here else is gonna look like he doesn't care about keeping the governor's office. So he came sort of loaded when he came into the second debate, and one of the things that he wanted to focus on was the fact that Roosevelt not a bad hit. Here mean Roosevelt apparently had the worst attendance. This was a Representative. He was a state rep. He's democrat. He had the worst attendance record of anybody. He like didn't show up to do his job. Now. Apparently, Mark Roosevelt had some like Pissy response that he was out there meeting with the real people or something. But it was a good hit. And I'd say that in the second debate weld really was able to sort of capitalize on it. Let's listen to weld and Roosevelt in their second. Debate Representative Roosevelt in one thousand nine hundred ninety two you had the.

"Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer in the losing locker room lost another one. Yeah. That's what we do now. So a serious issue in SNL style being worked up for some laughs, by the way. It was the second episode of the forty fourth SNL season. Josh. All right. Ben. Thank you very much. BBC news time six thirty two. We're learning more about the devastating limousine crash and upstate New York that killed twenty people. Join me on the phone now is former NTSB chairman, Mark Roosevelt. Good morning, Mark. Good morning. Josh. So in this, particular instance, we're talking about a site that locals have called dangerous for years. That's right. Apparently there have been a number of accidents prior to this one so much. So that the department of transportation did some modifications at the site. But apparently those modifications may not have been enough. So the NTSB is going to be looking very carefully at the design of this roadway. The intersection, and then of course, they're also going to be looking very carefully at the the modification that was done to this two thousand eleven Ford excursion. So you make a very good point a lot has been focused on the actual intersection itself. But a lot of people are also looking at the manufacturing or I should say remanufacturing of these stretch limos. That's right. They don't necessarily comply with what the original manufacturing was as it relates to the National Highway Traffic safety administration's rules and regulations for motor vehicles. Once they start stretching them a lot of water. In fact, may be required safe. From a factory is not necessary. -sarily being done when these are done locally aftermarket, and what happens next in terms of the TSP's involvement will remain on seeing probably gathering evidence for three to five days. They will then within a week or two put out some type of preliminary report, which is only going to be the facts as they know them at this time with no analysis done, and this will probably be about a year long major investigation when they do come out. They'll be taking a look at this accident.

We'll go, and if you want we'll go to Palo Alto, and will interview her there, if that's you know, whatever if that's better, you know, maybe send out actual attorneys or staff that can actually do something. That is not uncomfortable. Too confrontational just to get her story. But one minute is no one minute is possible. One minute. You know, now, you know, the backers of break are the Justice department of President Trump now, they're running TV. Support break Cavanaugh. He's a good, man. I like him and all that cash. "Uh for three years so i wanna start with where did this come from his spent something that that folks have been pushing to to abolish testing completely were you guys kind of caught off guard when you saw such a what feels like a pretty radical suggestion to me hit the the florida and as you mentioned off the air already has more than one hundred people signed on yes yes it's very it's very troubling because one of the core values of the education reform act uh is massive increase in our spending on our public schools in in exchange we expect high standards in accountability from all parties in the process in one of the ways that we measure accountability is through the socalled impasse test and with m cast since two thousand five we were the first for the with the first state in the history of the national assessment of um educational performance to finish i i on both subjects tested in both great cestic nobody ever done that before we did in two thousand five and then we did it every year the test was administered until two thousand thirteen so we have established ourselves as the best public school system in the united states and we are internationally competitive and math and science uh so to then jettison one of the key components of what made education reform successful i think is very dangerous i believe that under the national education an under no child left behind we probably were over testing but the response to that is to reduce the amount of tests that were getting under no chelsea left behind not jettison test altogether yummy yum really helps give some of the context here so back in ninety three when he and mark roosevelt bill world crafted the landmark it before laud the huge infusion of it's been you know at this point hundreds of billions of dollars in exchange for m castle high standards a charter schools teacher testing this really is made us not only the envy of the country but really the only stately union that's internationally competitive and one of the things massachusetts is known for everybody says massachusetts great schools that's true and thin and people forget that that was not true and ninety ninety three ninety ninety three we were about mineral the pack on the sat and he was one of the big motives for them to push.
