"Informed. The Northwest's on Lee 24 hour News Station Co. Moh news 1000 FM 97 7, It's a day nearly a year in the making one. We've all been waiting for anxiously, of course, especially since the U. S. Recorded its first death from covert 19 right here in Washington State. But, of course, the day the first people here in the United States Begin to receive those covert vaccines from Fizer also comes on the day the U. S records. It's 300,000 covert death. ABC News correspondent Mark Rimmel Art is watching it all. He spoke with Cuomo's Bill O'Neill. Mark, give us an update amid the applause and fanfare. How have the inoculations gone so far? Yes. So far, you know, tens of couple tens of thousands of people expect to do essentially be be inoculated today. More tomorrow and in the in the days to come so overall, these vaccines are being sent out to 636 sites across the country. Ah 145 of those received today. 425 tomorrow on then 66 more on Wednesday of for really a total of what we're going to see here in this first push is going to be 2.9 million Americans. Vaccinated. That is because we have about six million doses available. But as part of the rollout strategy here, the government wanted to ensure that if you've gotten the vaccine that there is a second dose Ready to go or are already in hand for when you need to get that second dose 21 days later, so they've essentially divided up that six roughly six million doses half of it going out now to get those first shots and then people will come back 21 days later. Those second shots will go out in time for that. Of course, most of us to see this as good news. But there is a long road ahead. How soon might the majority of middle agers millennials get their first does really what it will be for most Americans. Will not get this vaccine, probably until the spring of the March. April May area Now. Good news is there's plenty more vaccines in the pipeline, so that would increase our quantity and supply. But right now, with the scarcity of this, it is believed That, you know, it's gonna be those frontline health care workers first getting them doses also getting people in nursing homes, and then it's going to trickle down to different groups there. Maybe, you know more support groups for health care workers, Those people getting it down to critical infrastructure people, perhaps telecommunications and water and sewage, things like that that keep our country running. Those people might get it as well as People who then are 65 above who are not in nursing homes. People who have you know medical conditions that put them at risk of a severe complications. So there's a lot of groups that this needs to get down to. But so for the general public, that's why the thinking is, it might not be until the spring and mark. This is a very long supply chain. Of course, there are other challenges as well as they're concerned that that could slow the progress. Yeah, it's difficult. I mean, you know, certainly, you know, there's concerns about visors. Storage capacity. In terms of, you know, it has to be held at very low temperatures roughly negative 70 degrees Celsius. So that's when we're starting to talk about specialized refrigeration units for this, but The good news is that what right now is so visor? Has it set up where these doses are being shipped in specialized boxes with dry ice that maintain the temperature. They actually have Trent GPS transmitters in them that monitor the temperature and locations So the each dose in each box is being Well watched and monitored to make sure that nothing happens to it. But the good news is is that this vaccine can stay stable for a couple days at refrigerated temperatures, it cannot be re frozen. But it can stay stable for a couple days. And right now, with the high demand and scarce amount of supply of these doses, these are going to be, you know, sitting on the shelves anywhere waiting to go out so most likely they're going to be quickly administered once they arrive on location, and we should expect weekly arrivals of doses from here on out.
