"Kennedy Smith and what Carolina Doctors. Muggy bug wake forest. He had made no, no one and. You know at at NC state along with Spud Webb I mean it was just like night in night out, it was ridiculous. You know so You know we were Kinda in. That bubble likes to your point. We felt like all the best players in the ACC, but then you know you go to pain at. Olympic tryouts and get the. Other players from around the country and it was. A Lotta Fun to. See. How many good players were you run into? Guys like Barclays stopped in guys you've never even heard of. My My my story kind of like that was I. signed it. Notre Dame. There was a kid named Gary Bell Out of Joliet Illinois and he was like listed at six eight. And we played in the. coca-cola game that Bob Knight's son ran in Indianapolis. And I never forget I show up at practice already gone going up and down because I was like the only west coast kid there. And I was like which ones Gary Bell, and he pointed that when I was like shoot, he was supposed to be six eight, and so he comes over, and I go dude. I thought you were six eighty 'cause man, if I was six eight I be outlawed in three states, so he's like six five. Six Five. Oh okay, so let's go back. You grew up now. Obviously you're you're late. bothered. Any was a legend in the basketball community I got a chance to stay at your parents house after my freshman year at Notre Dame because he had worked worked for and work with John Macleod. But now your entire childhood was at Enid Oklahoma. no actually you know. My Dad would be a coach. We moved around a lot. You know a lot of it was in Oklahoma started out. He started out as a high school coach at in in in Bartlesville Oklahoma where I was born With actually. You know. He played back in the old industrial age Ula Phillips. He worked for controlling him and played for the Phillips Sixty sixers. You know back in the Invest Really, and then he decided to get into coaching and Ended up being assistance for John Macleod. At University of Oklahoma? And then John went to the Phoenix Suns We moved out there for two years. So you know really when I fell in love with the game, you know. My Dad was an assistant from Phoenix Suns I was about ten years old and getting to go to all the NBA Games. Can Watch. Guys like Dick Ours Dale and Charlie Scott and. All the other guys, that's just that's that's when I was like man. That's. That's when I really fell in love with the game of basketball, but then. You know he eventually, he got a head coach. His San Houston states who lived in Texas, about four years, and then going into my high school years is when we moved back to Oklahoma. But they've been there ever since so. My high school years or an email and my brothers live longer, but But that's kind of where it all started. Why. Georgia Tech Because I. Think I think what happens now, is we? We looked through the glass today and and figure out. What like your Freshman Year Georgia Tech? You guys weren't good like record. Wise, you know you and John Salley, starting his freshman, you guys became very good, but you weren't good. WH, why would you go play for for a new? Yorker in the ACC at Georgia Tech instead of Jack Hartman a case state instead of plan at Ou at Oklahoma state or Like Wide Georgia, tech. Rose interesting kind of how it unfolded Yeah to your points, Georgia. Tech just got news to the ACC. A one or two years before I showed up and. One of the worst programs in the country. Bobby cremins took over and And he got you know. Go to Mason Bobby gotta find a point guard, and I gotta find a big man. To start my programs. And they were so bad, they obviously couldn't go. You know I kid bobby all the time because after after I left He. He was able to get Kenny Anderson's. Marbury! For accurate. I! I said you know if I I ll out there today. You really become recruiting because I was so far under the radar, but That's all he could recruit at that time. And the George Felton dominate play. And you turn out in Florida. We had unbelievable. Winding down was on that team with we. Really good guys. Anthony Lewis A. Bunch of. Pros and Oklahoma's not necessarily known to be basketball. It's more football. But we had at unbelievable opinion George Felton plays in called Bobby and he says I have found found A. Need to know bobby. You didn't think anybody at that time outside of New York, city play basketball a call sure in Clo- aims. cussing George saying I'm not going to four recruit as a kid. Georgia's no bobbies better not that kids from Oklahoma And so Of course the rules are different back then and. They came to watch play seventeen times my senior year. So as I started. Can Schools to go visit I was like well. At least I gotta go. Visit these guys school. They earn that. They worked their work their butts off. Recruit neat but. At the time I was planning on staying close to home, I loved all this. I was recruited by all the Oklahoma schools. Oklahoma Oklahoma State Tulsa Nolan Richardson cost at the time, and they'd just come off a great run west Paul, pressing and those guys. and Kansas State. And so I was really looking at stands fairly close, but You know I have my list of things that I have priorities that I was looking for in a school and and. From academics to? You know back then. There was no comparison. The ACC was the best conference in the country. And I was always a huge North Carolina, Fan..

"Was Jordan? The best player was Tis del the best player. Jordan was the best choir. in kind of you know had. You know got A. has taken off a little bit. You know I think he he let lose. Not Not being you know in that north. Carolina system, so he kind of let loose conserve. What's? In. And he was definitely the best player, but we have so many guys that were were capable team. On the night give into the other, but I think Jordan Madison Scorn for the Pan Am Games but Like you said we had so many great players on that team. Yes, kind of amazing. WHO's your roommate? I can't remember to be honest. It's that's that's Kinda weird. I know but It was one of those they had this. Initially like A. Olympic Village ideal. That wasn't very well done. This was in Caracas Venezuela and there's. Crazy stuff going on during that time clinical stuff and member. He needs kids with guns or escort to these games and stuff. It was kind of scaring some ways. Davidson move is to a hotel got us out of there. And the living, situation and When I think about I think it was called me. Was One of the guys that that that I was with. again. I apologize for skipping around because it. It's actually harder I know to remember that way, but the next year was eighty four. You went to the four trials, and there's all these famous unbelievable players among. That didn't make the team Jordan. Did Barkley didn't you didn't Stockton? Didn't what what was? What was eighty four Bob Knight was the coach. The Olympics were in Los Angeles. Now of course you an established star in the ACC coming off your sophomore year coming off with playing for the Pan, AM Games. What was the eighty four tryouts like? And why didn't you make it? Well I think you know Bobby Knights kind of had his own ideas of what he wanted when he was going in. I think there's. A pretty good idea that my perspective that because he had that team kind of already in mind. You know it was disappointing because we were kind of under the impression that You, know I mean like you said we were so good that that Pan Am team that. Haven't kind of dominated the way we did if we would. Be, considered to be on the Olympic team, but You Know Bobby Knights came in, and he kinda did his own thing and. You know you have had a kid that. Happened to be going Indiana the next year or something like that offers. That he could on the team, but yeah, there's so many guys That was my first experience. It was funny because going to the Olympic trials. I experienced a meeting Charles Barkley actually sat him on the plane. I've never met him I. Really never heard of him at that point. And he just. Dominated those trials. You know I just it so I mean. That guy was amazing, so we have a lot of guys that were certainly deserving being on that team that didn't pick. So different than you know like the the point is you know Charles Barkley? You was playing in college and you've never heard of him. You know never seen him. Play means really, whereas now. Everybody seems to know everybody even more so than when I played. You Basketball Twenty five years ago. You'd still you an all star game and you know I remember first time I, saw Kevin Garnett and I was like. Oh, my Gosh! She's better than everybody else. And that was my senior was an unbelievable class but yet to see guys for the first time especially when you play in the like when you're in the ACC. I mean you had what doctrines at Duke you had you know Len bias at Maryland. Your guys at Georgia Tech North Carolina Virginia row. Samson was at three time player of the year. I know not all these years of coincide. No, there's a kind of a jumble of years but that. You feel like that's where all the great players, but then there's these players that you'd never seen before. Never heard of before and now you're playing against him. Yeah. It was definitely different world that we live in I. Mean You didn't have? Cell phones I mean we didn't have Internet. So, you just didn't have the access. You know funny funny stories. That you know this shows the difference. Yeah, even in high school, and and and the ability to no, no people but. You know when I was being recruited by Georgia Tech. I knew they were recruiting John Salley. You know kid from new. York but I. You know I didn't know anything about him. You couldn't pull up anything to find out about him. And then he was. You know six nine. You know coming out at come out of New York. And one show up. At campus first night about. Two in the morning and I hear this banging on my door. And Open the door and half a slew obviously. And John Salley got this big necklace spider on around his neck, and you know John the character everybody knows. And Person says worst price. And I said I'm. Price. And he goes you're white. You know it was like here. We weren't being recruited. We do it because he was white I. It's just a so. You doesn't show that world that we grew know grew up in. In the way, things are done, but Yet to your points, you know playing in the ACC back then was. Just about every. Against.

"The iheartradio APP if you want to stress. You're sitting working at home now. That's Fox sports. Radio DOT COM. Every day we talk. Whatever is the latest topic in sports? I know there's not live sports. We we've talked a lot about the dance and we're GONNA have mark price. Join me the great sharpshooter Enid Oklahoma Mark Price Arena where I played with with USPS storm. Obviously and. I it was dad. Is Brother Brent? In his late father Danny was just a great great man. Actually our assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Storm. So Marco join us in a moment. I WANNA give you a couple of thoughts here on the first incarnation of the last dance which is in fact which which is good I've been told the second episode is the slowest ten although not all ten are finished. I've had people watch them all or whatever they have and said that one was the episode of all of them which did feel that way. I thought there was a lack context. They would the Scottie. Pippen story only net now to Jordan. Have a problem with them taking the summer off of getting a surgery but we forgetting ninety four. When Jordan retired to play baseball. That was when Scotty pippin wanted out of the game because because Phil didn't run the platform a man for Kuku Kuku it's shot and then it becomes a big to do and of course the ultimate losing the series to the New York Knicks. I that's that's an issue. These are all you have long relationships with people when you. Kinda quit in your team because you're not getting the ball down the stretch in a big situation That there's GonNa be some shrapnel there. There's can be some some hard feelings and then for sky to say like yeah. I didn't get the surgery because I wanNA have a long beautiful summer. You know at them. That's an that's a fuck you to the organization like I don't know like we can sit here and go jerry. Krause was this. And that it's Scottie. Pippen sign a long term. Deal at the start of the deal was a was one of the top ten highest paid players in the NBA. And by the end of the deal it was not by the end. It was a bad deal. He would have gotten paid. He'd gotten taken care of which he did. He just didn't get with the Bulls. That's you know that's what you make it work so I mean this is actually very similar to a lot of places work where you know you you sign a long term deal you think you want security and then in the middle of getting security. You feel like you're getting screwed because other guys get more money in the end of the day made one hundred dollars as a player like I just I. I agree with you. Ordinary got lost in the moment lost in his own issue. And we're supposed to forget that. He quit on the team in ninety four. That was a bad bad bad. Look I also think this is interesting and I said it on radio. I'll say it to you. You ever notice how we take documentaries as the end all be all right the end all be all like there was a dock on. I forget the company's name that the report that the trump election committee hired and you know they were the Cambridge Analytics Cambridge. If you watched it you're like Oh Cambridge Scott was all bad people they were simply working for the Republicans and this and then you if you do a little bit of research if you do a little bit of research that Cambridge analytics like some of the people who Cambridge the. The documentary was counting on to be whistle blowers. They weren't being totally forthright. They weren't being honest but between that documentary a Tiger King. And now the last dance like can we? Can we collectively do ourselves a solid and stop take a breath? Think about just think really long and hard about whether or not we that that there are two sides to every story and maybe if you know it's like the Tiger King Joe Exotics bad guy. There were people who had a petition together to get him pardoned by. And I don't know if Carol Baskin killed her husband and fed him. She had him to the Tigers but I would think that would be a little bit further along in an investigation. We wouldn't need a documentary. Done cover that thing. She was made out to be a horrible human being and she may be definitely creepy. Thought there was no good people know that as my takeaway away but as we watched this documentary. There's GonNa be a lack of balance because somebody has to tell the story and Jordan. Tell most of the story that. Let's let's get to mark price. He's one of the great point guards who I think would carry over to this era quite well because he was an unbelievable shooter passer play a pick and roll player and by the way a really good guy whose family has given back to the game in teaching the world shooting for the last no fifty years or so. Let's catch up with a great mark price. Be Short a catch the live edition of the Doug. Gottlieb show weekdays at three PM Eastern noon Pacific on Fox sports radio in the iheartradio APP. Welcome MINIS FORMER NBA. All Star course head coach Charlotte and longtime assistant coach shooting coach in the NBA. He's done just about everything in basketball. He's mark price I actually. I'm I'm usually. We like to start early and then work to where you are. Now I'm GonNa Kinda jumble the order just because the only thing anyone's talking about in sports outside the NFL draft is the last dance which The Jordan era coincided for the most part with your with your spectacular career in the NBA. And your last year playing in the NBA was Jordan's last year playing with the Bulls. Just your thoughts on the first two episodes and what you saw I think obviously for everybody Particularly in in my era And for me personally haven't had been kind of been there and experienced it and actually play those guys It's interesting to kind of get the back story. You kinda think you know stuff that it's always fun to kind of get get more details and and Kinda see. What's from their perspective? You know what was going on during during that time. 'cause you own the kind of solve a he'd come to town the HOOPLA surrounding the Bulls team at that time You know when you play either like the Bulls. He didn't like the Bulls You know one of those kind of things and and so. I think it's for those of us that lived it. It was You know I thought I thought interesting. start to it okay But you lived it but you lived at as you guys. There were several years there where you had incredible teams right like you know fifty five plus. We had a couple of fifty plus win teams. And you couldn't get like he was the nemesis Some predating you. But but But but he was the nemesis. What let's start with Jordan himself? I know you've worked for as well. What was your first Michael Jordan? Experience was was when wrote my actual I Join experienced who was in college. You know I played at Georgia Tech Does it don't know. And you know North Carolina you know had just won the national championship. Michael just shy. He was a sophomore when I was a freshman Georgia tech and and so you know playing against him at that time and then also after my freshman year I I was picked to play on the eighty three Panamerican team with Michael and so You know I would play within the fight against him From you know college to to what he turned out to be in the NBA. So I I kind of know the whole spectrum of kind of his growth and development As a player Because I think you know as good as Michael was in college. I don't know that anybody would have predicted. He would have become you know Nj and and what he became at the NBA level. Okay so so when when you first played against him in college your freshman year. He's a sophomore. What was he like? Well he was? He was obviously a very talented player. But you have to realize. He was playing at North Carolina under Dean Smith and his system. You know I think the jumping around a lot. The only person that could ever stop Michael Jordan was Dean Smith because he had a style that they played and it matter who you were you fit into that style. And and so you saw glimpses of of his greatness and his ability but I don't think it was a situation the college level where he you know could totally takeover game you know like you can ask the NBA level. And so you know his game just. I think there was a lot to his game. That people didn't see in college just because of the system that he played in. So you go to the Panamerican Games team had the roster by the way in front of me It's an unbelievable roster right you Chris Mullin Michael Jordan. Michael Cage. Ed Pinkney Charlie Sitton was incredible played Oregon State. Wayman Tisdale re One of the all-time Great Not only Oklahoma Products University of Oklahoma but at a Tulsa Who was a first team? All American his first three years in College Leon would of course played in the Olympic team in eighty four. Who's now an official? Nba official? Like this is Sam Perkins re remarkable roster What was that experience like It was an unbelievable experience. You know I I was Kinda shaking myself because I was just a freshman. You Know Georgia Tech and you know. I went to those trials and the thing that was funny about those trials was. The coach was the legendary Jack Hartman sure from Canada from Kansas State and I had turned him down to go to Georgia Tech They recruited me extremely hard. Line Krueger. Top assistant who recruited me to Kansas State. That had I not gone Georgia Tech. And there's a good chance would have ended up at Kansas State and so I got invited to the trials I was like well. I'm GonNa go enjoy this experience. There's no way Hartman sticking me probably on that team and And yet he did which spells a lot to him his character that he was wanted to get the best guys and make the best fit of a team to go play internationally so there was an unbelievable experience. You you mentioned roster and all those guys just fantastic. We had a blast in getting a chance to go together. Here's the thing saving money with. Geico is almost better than playing pickup.

"Either like the Bulls he didn't like the Bulls You know one of those kind of things, and and so I think it's per proposal that lived it. It was You know I thought I thought interesting start to it. Okay but you lived it, but you lived at as you guys. There were several years there where you had incredible teams right like you know fifty five plus we had a couple of fifty plus win teams, and you couldn't get like. He was the nemesis, some predating you, but but but but he was the nemesis. What let's start with Jordan himself. I know you've worked for as well. What was your first? Michael Jordan experience was was when. wrote my actual I, join experienced who with in college. You know I played at Georgia Tech. does it don't know and. You know North Carolina. You know had just won. The National Championship Michael Just Shy. He was a sophomore when I was a freshman Georgia. Tech and And so you know playing against him at that time, and then also after my freshman year I I was picked to play on the. Eighty Three Panamerican team with Michael. And so You know I would played within the fight against him. from you know college to to what he turned out to be in the NBA so i. I kind of know the whole spectrum of kind of his growth and development as a player because I. Think you know as good as Michael was in college I. Don't know that anybody would have predicted. He would have become. You Know Nj. And and what he became at the NBA level. Okay, so so when when you first played against him in college your freshman year. He's a sophomore. What was he like? Well he was. He was obviously a very talented player, but you also have to realize he was playing at north. Carolina under Dean Smith and his system. You know I think the jumping around a lot. The only person that could ever stop Michael. Jordan was Dean Smith. because. He had a style. They played, and it matter who you were. You fit into that style. And and so you saw glimpses of of his greatness, and his ability but I don't. Think it was a situation. The college level where he. You know could totally takeover game. You know like you can ask the NBA level, and so you know his game, just I think there was a lot to his game that people didn't see in college just because of the system that he played in. So you go to the Panamerican Games, team had the roster by the way in front of me. It's an unbelievable roster, right? You Chris Mullin Michael Jordan Markle Cage Ed Pinkney Charlie Sitton was incredible player Oregon State. Wayman, Tisdale, re one of the all-time Great not only Oklahoma Products University of Oklahoma, but at a Tulsa. who was a first team all American! His first three years in college, Leon would of course played in the Olympic team and eighty four. Who's now an official NBA official like this is Sam Perkins. Re Remarkable Roster What was that experience like? IT! Was it an unbelievable experience? You know I I was Kinda shaking myself because I was just a freshman. You Know Georgia Tech and. You know. I went to those trials and the thing that was funny about those trials was the coach. There was a legendary Jack Hartman sure from Canada from Kansas State and I had turned him down to go to Georgia Tech. they recruited me extremely hard line, Krueger top assistant, who recruited me to Kansas, state that had I not gone Georgia Tech, and there's a good chance would have ended up at Kansas, state and so. I got invited to the trials. I was like well I'm GONNA. Go enjoy this experience. There's no way Hartman sticking me. Probably on that team and and yet he did which spoke a lot to him his character. He was wanted to get the. Best guys and make the best fit of a team to go play internationally so. There was an unbelievable experience. You, you mentioned roster. And all those guys just fantastic. We.

"There's not live sports we. We've talked a lot about the dance and we're GONNA have mark price. Join me the great sharpshooter. Mark Price Arena where I played with with USPS storm of. His Dad is brother Brent. In his late father, Danny was just a great great man, actually our system coach with the Oklahoma City Storm, so marco join us in a moment I. Give you a couple of thoughts here on the first incarnation of the last dance which. is in fact which which is good I've been told. The second episode is the slowest of the ten, although not all ten are finished. I've had people watch them. All or whatever they have and said that one was the. Episode of all of them, which did feel that way. I thought there was a lack context. They would the Scottie Pippen story only net? Now to Jordan have a problem with them taking the summer off of getting a surgery, but we forgetting ninety four when Jordan retired to play baseball that was when Scotty Pippin. Wanted out of the game, because because Phil didn't run the platform, a man for Kuku. Kuku it's shot, and then it becomes a big to do, and of course the ultimate losing the series to the new. York Knicks I that's. That's an issue. These are all you have long relationships with people when you Kinda quit in your team because you're not getting the ball down the stretch in a big situation. that there's GonNa be some shrapnel there. There's can be some some hard feelings. And then for sky to say yeah I didn't get the surgery because I wanNA have a long beautiful summer. You know at them. That's an that's a fuck you to the organization like. I don't know like we can sit here and go. Jerry Krause was this and that it's Scottie Pippen sign a long term deal. The start of the deal was a was one of the top ten highest paid players in the NBA, and by the end of the deal, it was not by the end it was a bad deal. He would have gotten paid he'd gotten taken care of. which he did, he just didn't get with the Bulls. That's you know that's what you make it work. So I mean. This is actually very similar to a lot of places. Work where you know you, you sign a long term deal. You think you want security and then in the middle of getting security. You feel like you're getting screwed. Because other guys get more money. In the end of the day made one hundred dollars as a player like I just. I I agree with ordinary, got lost in the moment lost in his own issue, and we're supposed to forget that. He quit on the team in ninety four. That was a bad bad bad look. I also think this is interesting and I said it on radio. Say to you. You ever notice how we take documentaries as the end all be all. Right the end all be all like there was a doc on. I forget the company's name. That the report that the trump. Election Committee hired. And you know they were the Cambridge analytics when I came. If you watched it, you're like Oh Cambridge Scott was all bad people. They were simply working for the Republicans and this and then you if you do a little bit of research. If you do a little bit of research that Cambridge analytics like some of the people who Cambridge the the documentary was counting on to be whistle blowers. They weren't being totally forthright. They weren't being honest, but between that documentary, a tiger king, and now the last dance. I, can we can we collectively do ourselves a solid and stop take a breath. Think about just think really long and hard about whether or not we. That that there are two sides to every story, and maybe if you know, it's like the tiger king. Joe Exotics bad guy. There were people who had a petition together to get him pardoned by. And I don't know if Carol basking killed her husband and fed him. She had him to the Tigers, but I would think that would be a little bit further along in an investigation. We wouldn't need a documentary done cover that thing. She was made out to be a horrible human being, and she may be definitely creepy thought. There was no good people know that as my takeaway away. But as we watch this documentary, there's GonNa. Be a lack of balance because somebody has to tell the story and Jordan tell most of the story. That let's let's get to mark price. He's one of the great point guards who I think would carry over to this era quite well because he was an unbelievable shooter passer play. A pick and roll player. And by the way a really good guy whose family has given back to the game and teaching the world shooting. For the last I, no fifty years or so let's catch up with a great mark price. Be Short a catch. The live edition of the Doug Gottlieb show weekdays at three PM. Eastern noon Pacific on Fox sports radio in the iheartradio APP. Welcome Minis boomer NBA. All Star course. Head coach Charlotte and longtime assistant coach shooting coach in the NBA? He's done just about everything in basketball. He's mark price. I. Actually I'm I'm usually we like to start early and then work to where you are now. I'm GonNa Kinda jumble the order just because. The only thing anyone's talking about in sports outside the NFL draft is the last dance which the Jordan era coincided for the most part with your with your spectacular career in the NBA and your last year, playing in the NBA was Jordan's last year playing with the Bulls. Just your thoughts on the first two episodes and what you saw. I think obviously for everybody particularly in in my era, and for me personally haven't. had been kind of been there and experienced it and actually play those guys. it's interesting to kind of get the back story. You kinda think you know stuff that it's always fun to kind of get. Get more details and. And kinda see what's from their perspective. You know what was going on during during that time, 'cause you own the kind of solve A. He'd come to town, but the HOOPLA surrounding the Bulls team at that time. you know when.

"Your top twenty five a one we obviously agree villanova's number one team in the country so i'll ask you this gp as a question then you can touch on whatever i said uh do you expect villanova to be the number one team in the country more weeks than not from now to the end of the regular season it's funny because our colleague and friend uh reform grave tweeted i think on monday when villanova was moved the number one of the ap poll he said villanova will not relinquish number one all season law and at first you go i don't know about that but then you look at it and like maybe so i will say the only thing that makes me say that's probably not true is that ap voters at least a certain percentage of them are idiots and they will drop villanova if it loses like at xavier from the number one spot even if villanova clearly got the best resume in the country at that point this happens all the time there have been times where there's one team ranked number one whose resume is so much better than everybody else's like it's just significant like even if they took a loss you in you and he's okay they lost today now we get to our morning i'm a look at all the resumes again allow they still get the best resume in the country the so i'm gonna keep him number one the ap voters instincts are to you lost you have to pay for that you lost you can no longer be number one after a loss i obviously think that's ridiculous but ap voters i don't wanna say most but certainly some don't think so so i think when villanova loses even if even if villanova then becomes a one lost team ap voters are are are a precondition to move a four loss team with worst losses than villanova to the number one spot just because they have a hard time putting their minds around the idea that you can lose and still be the best team the country a p because you still got the best resume in the country.
