"So help me God. So you didn't think you didn't think they were going to haul you out on a slab that day. What really angered me as well was seeing people in the capitol that I love, the capital of our country, breaking windows, ransacking offices, assaulting police officers, like I was, I was filled with indignation, Mark. I said, not this, not here, not in America. And there's some great stories. I was determined to do my duty that day, and to be honest with you, I just said that I set that anger aside and just focused on the work and I believe because of the courage of law enforcement that day, we were able to turn a day of tragedy into a triumph of freedom where we finished the work of the American people and ensured the peaceful transfer of power. You have done better than anyone I've ever seen, making sure awareness of the cameras when the president would speak at all those COVID briefings and all the other national security things in the economy is doing gangbusters and all that. When you're standing behind in the shot and you know that the press corps, the media corps are looking for any way to catch a weird face or whatever. You had the ability to just rive it, like you looked at a focal point on the back of the president's head and you would not flinch. They were not going to get any goofy picture of you. What were you thinking when you looked at that focal point on the back of his head? Because you looked like, yeah, well, it's number one. Thanks for the compliment. Number two, I will tell you. I was listening to the president. And I was thinking about the job. Look, the job of the vice president of the United States is to stand beside the president. When things are going well and when they're not going well, your job is to stand beside the president. And as, you know, as I wrote opening lines of so help me God, I was always loyal to president Donald Trump. And I'll always be proud of the record that we created. It was up against unprecedented opposition. When you have people in, you know, they're doing this. The title so help me, God. You got a Bible verse at the beginning of every chapter. A lot of your faith through this. What do you say to people who go, I don't really care about that. It makes me nervous. I had somebody say yesterday. I wish you just dropped the evangelical thing. It's like, well, that's part of who he is. And I've come up in the same tradition, but he's saying that because obviously when you're president, vice president, what have you, you represent all the people. So does this. How do you address it just quickly? Because that's a thing. You know? Well, look, in writing my story, I couldn't leave out the most important decision I've ever made in my life, and that was to put my faith in Jesus Christ back in 1978. It's been the source of our strength and the center of our family and ever since. But, you know, I'm some of the believes that the old book says that always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that you have, but do so with gentleness and respect. And I hope this people reach to help me God they'll sense the sincerity of our faith. They'll hear it. They're here that we haven't always lived up to what our faith required early in our political life. I try and be humble about those things and I hope whatever faith tradition or any background people have that they can read that and know that that's where the pences are coming from, but I'll always be a fierce champion of the right of every American to live to work to worship and to believe, according to the dictates of their support or not believe either way, Mike Pence with us. I think people may be the people who think I was just so buttoned down and it's like drinking milk or whatever, but you're a Budweiser fan too, which is straight out of the controversy with the World Cup. I had a very long conversation with on the take out podcast several years ago about this and he said, Look, We don't talk about the war in Afghanistan in the proper way and because we don't talk about in the proper way we misunderstand what the goal is that we're not at war in Afghanistan any more any more than we are. When we have placed a fire department in a local neighborhood. Fire departments are not at war with fire. What the fire part departments do. Stand ready, they observe, and they called. Happens, and then they put out a small fire, so it doesn't become a large fire in Afghanistan. And this was him speaking like two years ago, the last 8 to 10 years we have been a fire department and if we think about counterterrorism operations in that sense, we don't keep asking ourselves well, dammit! Why haven't we won the war because we're not fighting a war anymore, not in any traditional Yeah, it's a it's a policing, action and keeping and yet the case could be made for having some sort of a leasing. It's not even more policing because fire departments don't drive around looking for fire fire departments. Wait. Police officers drive around looking for things. Fire departments wait, and when they slow call come, They go there to make sure it's not a bigger Fire, and I found that to be the most metaphorically helpful way to think about counterterrorism operations and deployments. So essentially, what we're saying is, we're taking all our fire departments out of Afghanistan. I'm worried about that. I am, too. And then the Taliban says, get more matches and more combustible stuff and will have a heyday and that's gonna be a horrible Not only that, but mark in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are translators. Residents of the Mount Helix community near Alcohol own have been waving signs on street corners and holding meetings, voicing their opposition to the states plan. The state wants to put 78 year old Douglas Badger a sexually viol Lynch Predator in a home in the neighborhood alcohol on, Mayor Bill Wells told AM seven sixties Mark Larsen about 500 people attended the most recent rally, and the state needs to find a different spot to place Badger. This guy doesn't belong in any residential neighborhoods, and I think that it's incumbent upon the state to find a safe place that's far away from any kids riding bikes, scooters. She thinks Badger's release would create a climate of fear. There's Children all up and down the streets in our neighborhood. It's within less than a mile from two elementary schools. There's no evidence. There are no facts there. No presentations. There are just accusations and happily because court should not jump in when there are no facts and no relevant allegations and no dispute. About the underlying walk, no courts to jump in and do that They're not and they're not going to and nothing is going to get the Supreme Court that's reversible. And everyone says Oh, my gosh. Supreme Court said that Religious organizations are protected from certain covert restrictions. Of course they are in the First Amendment. There's a higher standard that's been part of U S law. The very beginning it's in the bill of rights. It's the First Amendment. Yes, there has to be a higher standard and a higher standard has been in law for a long time. It's not a departure. It's a verification, so they're separate things. Oh my gosh. The Supreme Court protected religious organizations and how they observed from covert restrictions. Yes, yes, There's a higher standard, right. Let's talk about that for a second. That was a big deal. Amy Cockney Barrett's first big swing vote opportunity there, and this puts limits on New York on Cuomo. When it came to, he was imposing attendance limits, like kind of like we have here in many cases with his own version of the color codes. 10 people in red Zones 25. People in orange zones seem to be disproportionately getting to the Catholics and the Orthodox Jewish congregations and so forth. So so this is a is a big deal. That sort of happened just over the holiday here in the court. Said. What the court has always said, which is Because it's in the First Amendment because it's in the bill of rights because it's in the Constitution. There's a higher standard that must be met. If you're going to restrict this activity. You better have a compelling state reason to do that. Mm. And if people have the volition to decide which they do, And you have to let them operate within the freedoms outlined in the Constitution that to meet is that doesn't strike me is radical and it doesn't strike me as something is his dangerous now did the chief justice when it was an eight member Supreme Court before him. He called me Barrett was nominated confirmed. Keep it for four. Yes, he did. So the chief justice comes down differently. But this didn't seem to me to be a radical departure that would should make us all breathless are nervous about what the court's going to do. And for the same reason, if any of these cases which I don't ever imagine they will get Supreme Court get there. The Supreme Court's not going to say you know what What doesn't matter, and we're going to keep President Trump in office, and it's not going to do that's not gonna happen. San Diego sheriff defends officers' use of deadly force
"Here in San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore is defending his brothers and sisters at the San Diego Police Department. Speaking with AM seven sixties Mark Larsen, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore talked about how three shootings in the past 12 days involving officers at the San Diego Police Department translates to his deputies. And sheriff's no matter how good your deescalation training and policies are. It takes two to deescalate. Gore also mentioned what happens when de escalation doesn't work with officers. You're gonna have a weapon a gun and pointed A deputy sheriff for a long enforcement officer. De escalation is it's out of the question at that point time, these officers have a right to protect themselves in the community, and they had to use deadly force. Sadly, Gore was referencing an incident earlier this week when San Diego police fatally shot a man during a confrontation in city
