Amnesty strips Alexei Navalny of 'prisoner of conscience' status
"There was a time when a figure like alexei navalny might have been able to count on if little else the full-throated support of amnesty international. The russian opposition figurehead would appear to meet. Every definition of a prisoner of conscience imprisoned on exceedingly dubious pretext spy unpleasant authoritarians and slash. With no record of ever having furthered he's caused through perpetrating inciting or suggesting violence however amnesty appear to differ on the basis of remarks made by navalny about immigrants a few years back. Amnesty has announced that whatever they will classify navalny as prisoner of conscience is not one. Join with more on this by mark kelly. Russia analyst and author of several books most recently a short history of russia. Mark festival to this maneuver by amnesty. Aren't they missing the point of prisoner of conscience a little bit that it's not necessary that you actually agree with them. Yeah absolutely and this is definitely something of an own-goal for amnesty. And especially so because it seems to bury much be have been triggered by a campaign or if not orchestrated by the kremlin but certainly sort of very much augmented by kremlin friendly. Voices in on social media does hurt navarre only at all it. Does i mean we go. To realize that the kremlin the moment is trying to portray him as anything but a immoral icon. I mean this wine set of charging him with treason or anything like that. They've gone for embezzlement. And basically he's dismissing a great patriotic war veteran and this is going to be an ready. It is being magnified by the russian state media as if it somehow amnesty deciding that novell abadan of course amnesty saying they still think that he should not be imprisoned so forth but that kind of nuance doesn't matter. So the kremlin is definitely gonna use this for it's worth which part of the russian electorate public does this stuff play with though i mean the charges against navalny especially that one. You alluded to of having insulted a veteran of the great patriotic. I mean that's absurd even if true that you would put somebody in the dark for that. The point is this is a long game. Let's be honest. Nevada is going to be in prison for at least two and a years. and what. the substandard kremlin tactic. They basically throw so much mud that even if each individual charge is when you look at it pretty ridiculous at some point just begins to sift into the subconscious of of many of the potential electric. Who aren't really people following the news in detail. They not committed inobound nights. They just went on the they. Just get unsensitive. Oh yeah you know what there will lose court. Cases wasn't their rulers allegations. The hope is that it'll stick again. It's not a sophisticated tactic but they hope is that skin. They have so much control over the media and probably a couple of years to do it. They can black and his reputation before he ever sees the light of day. We have talked before about the strategic sense of this from your vladimir putin on the russian regimes point of view as like why you would turn valley into the center of a circus rather than just ignore him. They hoping though that if he is sent to the salt pile fluently for at least two and a half years that he will just be forgotten about. Definitely the idea. I mean again. They hope is that this way he just simply becomes someone who again used to be someone now. Of course. The difficulty is the moment they have him in a top security prison within a prison. In due course he's going to have to go out and presumed me to just an ordinary prison or in this case a penal colony which is how the russians classify that their prisons and at that point. You know there is the chance that he will have access to whether it's sort of illegal cell phones that he can send out the message and so forth so the there is going to be this constant narrative struggle navanly's people want to keep his memory alive. They want to make into a current thing. The kremlin indu course will want to make him into just some past figure who gets forgotten the you. You have responded to the persecution of nevada by imposing some sanctions which do more symbolic than anything else navalny's supporters unsurprisingly asking the eu to expand those sanctions but is there anything the eu can realistically do in the sanctions department which is going to Compel russia to adjust their behavior. Navales concern because russia can't back down now right valley's going to the penal colony for at least two and a half years yes. There's no real question about that but look sanctions are more than anything else about political symbolism and when you just assigned to go for four fairly obvious candidates who basically have no property in the eu. And unlike we're unlikely to becoming to holiday in the south of france the symbolism the message you're giving is basically we have done the least possible we really don't want to get involved in this if the e you had come up with with a much more robust package of measures. Of course it wouldn't have meant. The putin would suddenly have quake in his boots. Before ios it burrell and reversed his policy but it would have said look. We do take this seriously. We will consist on adding costs to your actions. The trouble is at the moment that actually what they basically said is quite the opposite. The russia obviously does hope that we've out navan the as its figurehead than the protest movement that he leads will just sort of dwindle. Evaporate and disappear. Is that light clear. The discussions about how the rage could be maintained. I mean i'm thinking back to those color revolutions in eastern europe in the early part of this century in one of the reasons or one of the ways they succeeded as that they were substantially lead a loose so the authorities seeking to suppress the movements. Didn't really know who they should cart off. Yeah absolutely and this is one of the problems. I mean they pass. The opposition has had the great virtue of his finger navalny as figurehead because he's very charismatic and effective but now they novelli shaped hole and really echo three ways. They could indeed dwindle all it could. Well be that we will find new leaders. Arising i mean it might be as in belarus that actually you'll find for example navales wife emerging as a new figure all others who can basically fill that role. The third possibility is though if this movement which is essentially very much it's nonviolent. It's political if this fails then there is also the risk that actually people become more radicalized. They feel that we. We tried everything we could within the system. We're going to have to try and go without the system. And i think this is the moment we actually have. No idea. notice the kremlin which way it'll go

I mean, they get the Darwin Award for that, if that's what they did. Well, they were trying to hide all this stuff, But, um, I mean, seriously, I think it just reveals again. That should Joe Biden win, which we need to stop here in Arizona. You're gonna have just additional grifting going on the elite in our country by then, and his cronies and his family and Omar Kelly and all his. This is what the political elite does right. They Yeah, they can gain influence. They try to profit off the positions that they're in on. That's why Donald Trump got elected, and that's why he needs to get re elected. In order to ensure this, you know, Joe Biden doesn't get back in there when it comes to the corruption. I mean, Joe Biden. It's not just Ukrainians in the Ukraine, and then we look at it on a local level. I mean, Mark Kelly, your opponent. They right here in Pima County World View. One of the many investors is in it is 10 Cent, which is the tech giant That literally does all the censorship right for the child, Calm government. Center with Internet Exactly again. This is an example of what the elite has been doing in America, right? They looked, you know, be able to profit off of connections. Profit off of, you know government relationships, and this is Mark Kelly story. He went over to China, as I talked about in the debate in 2003 on this Chinese propaganda arm retreat, trying to bring the elite in America into their orbit, and it succeeded and went back in 2004. Back in 2005, But it was the most meaningful thing he did in his life other than going to space, which is bizarre and then went to space in 2006 brought the Chinese Communist banter with him. Because it was so meaningful to him. And then he gets out of the you know, retired from the military and starts a company in Tucson and reaches out to 10 Cent to invest in this company. This is a 10 cent interview to the national security threat. They are close to the Chinese government, and you don't just pick up the phone and called 10 Cent. He had to have had those relationships already, which started to form while he was still active duty Navy going over to China and then profiting off it trying to get rich quick. I look, we want people to be able to prosper in America. Right, Garrett. We care about hard work, You know, Start a business being entrepreneur and prosperity is not a bad thing, but what the elite has done. They built prosperity off relationships and, you know, corruption and access, and that's what the Americans and Arizonans are against. And that's what that take care in my election as well. You know, I sit here in question. How could this guy want to be a senator when he literally knows that he's doing business with Communists and a company that is in charge of censoring the Internet? You know, with that kind of judgment. How can he be trusted to be a senator for the United States representing Arizona? And he can't is the point. It's disqualifying and is that 10 Cent has been basically cracking down and censoring, you know Chinese citizens in Hong Kong and other places. They are collecting information wherever they can. They're they're Chinese state owned company, and Mark Kelly is in business with them. And you know many other Americans are, too But that doesn't mean you get to be a senator is the point. China is our biggest year political threat They unleashed this virus on us have been stealing our jobs, stealing our technology, stealing our research President Trump of the first one to stand up to them. I am standing up to them. This is this is the critical national security issue of this election is standing up to China and we cannot allow Joe Biden and Mark Kelly to be in there with their deep financial ties. It is disqualified. As a senator, with China being such a threat and you know, I eyeballed this. I've caught this on great websites that do all kinds of great reporting about how college campuses university is basically a paid off by China. Half devil there. Then they set up shop like you have a Ieyasu. They both had it where they set up shop and they can't They can't the colleges themselves can't even get in there. It's like it's like it becomes like a Chinese Embassy. Almost where they just set up shop and steal information. I mean, should they be Ben? If you're senator, what would you do to crack down on China? Stealing our our intellectual property getting on our campuses, stealing everything that we're doing? What? We're already doing it again. People are waking up to it that China has been doing this in plain sight as you mentioned, you know, access to our research institution or universities trying tow have basically their propaganda arm while they steal our technology Steeler job. We already cracking down on this. I mean, I'm on a bill with Rick Scott and some others specifically about a full review of all students are here, you know, during research and the visa applications and those who were associate ID, potentially with that, you know the Chinese military. They're using our free society and are open system to their benefit, And it's like jokes on us, right? So we've got to take a full review. Of the access that they have legally and illegally. I mean, they, you know, they do cyber attacks and they take our stuff. But in many cases they were taking it legally because we're giving them access through technology transfers, you know, joint ventures or, you know, research access and things like that. It's time for America to wake up. We need to take a full review of our own security. Here, do everything we can tow hold China accountable and ensure that we bring our manufacturing homes that we're not relying on them for a PPE and our pharmaceuticals and critical minerals. We need to, you know, make an F 35 you know, or air our defense equipment. I mean, this is this is a wake up call for America. This is very much what this election is about. And that's why President Trump has to get re elected and why I've got to get elected and make sure that Mark Kelly's not in Senate and one of those things reason to get in. There is what's going on right now. With Supreme Court with Amy Cockney Barrett and, you know, first off. I don't know how you work with these people like I'm watching the White House guy and watching Harow know, asking if she sexually assaulted anybody. Cory Booker ask her if she's against white supremacy, and she's two black Children. You know what? What is going on here? Now? She has been so impressive. She is so smart. And then one of telling part of the debate last week of Mark Kelly was that before even hearing any word she says, he told he said, yes, you said last week debate. I would not vote to confirm her without even asking questions or know anything about her. That's a big deal. Well, I was surprised. He actually said that Garrett, you know, he tends to not take a Buddhist nun. Anything he's hiding, but I forced him to answer that. And he said no and the reason he said no. And because, of course, Many yet you know, we're not. He's not going to get elected. But should he? They're gonna want liberal activist judges on the bench, packing the court. They have been chanting four more years and justice justice speaker after speaker saying that if President Trump doesn't win Arizona or nationally that then it has been stolen that then it is fraud, something that the president his team has been saying as well. There is no evidence of that here in Arizona or in Nevada. With this crowd, saying, If the counting going on inside this building doesn't come out their way will then clearly there has been fraud election voting centers in battleground states, a bipartisan group of observers air watching those votes with continuing coverage. I'm Michelle Franzen, ABC News Well, Arizona may or may not decide who wins the race for the White House, But President Trump and Democrats Joe Biden are locked up in quite the battle here in the Grand Canyon State cars. Political expert Mike O'Neal expects the president to keep slicing into Biden's lead in our battleground state. This is right down the middle. We're headed towards a very close election, and we may be one of the closest states in the union. Arizona will have two Democratic U. S. Senators for the first time since 1953. They are news, joining The Associated Press and the New York Times and officially calling the race for former astronaut Mark Kelly over incumbent Republican Martha McSally cross. Corona.
Democrats projected to retain control of the House of Representatives
"Of course, they believe they've got a Biden win as well. A CZ I want to take control of both houses of Congress. So far, Democrats have gained one seat. Cory Gardner, the Republican Colorado conceded to the former governor. A moment ago, I spoke to Senator elect John Hickenlooper to congratulate him on his victory tonight. To welcome him to the United States Senate and to make sure that he knows I will support him in this transition anyway, that I can. That flip is somewhat canceled out, though, is the Alabama Senate seat held by Democrat Doug Jones went to the very pro Trump retired football coach Tommy Tuberville in Arizona. While it appears the seat held by incumbent Republican Martha McSally is going to the Democrat, former astronaut Mark Kelly. Exactly said it was too soon to make that call. Kelly himself said he's confident but that votes were still being counted. Some seats are definitely staying in Republican hands. Joni Ernst is keeping her Iowa seat. Lindsey Graham is keeping his seat in South Carolina. Jessica Rosenthal Fox News, however,
Ocasio-Cortez projected to win second term in House
"Where Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez gets a second term in New York Former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper knocks out incumbent Senator Cory Gardner. Democrat Mark Kelly flips the Arizona Senate seat filled by Martha McSally MC Sally was appointed to fill the term left by Senator John McCain. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell hangs on to his seat, but is said to be less optimistic about keeping his top post in the chamber and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham defeats Jaime Harrison and a very expensive and tough race
It's Election Day. Take a breath. Here's what to expect.
"Politics. And this landscape in particular, Wendy Schiller joins us. She of Brown University, of course on a friend to the program, and Teo Is the station with the chair of political science again at Brown University. Wendy, What is your base case? No. I just get right to it. I think here's what I think will will know from some congressional races, I think, signaling earlier than even the presidential races. We know that there's a lot of people who are elected in 2018 in what we call competitive swing district like Virginia, for example. Leave Illinois. We have a couple of races in Texas that look really tight and are surprisingly competitive. We have a couple of Minnesota, you know if things start to swing in congressional district sooner. For the Democrats. Then you start to think, Okay, maybe buy will have a very good night. But, you know, we'll know about Florida will know about North Carolina will know about Arizona, and we'll know about Georgia, probably, but before midnight tonight, and if all of those swing for Trump If Trump looks really healthy in those states and looks like he could win, then I think things get very, very dicey for Biden, so that's a big sort of vomit or buying only when one of those states You know, one of those four states or look like he's in the lead in a considerable lead in one of those states for him, that sort of have a more relaxed night. But if he if Trump wins, all of Omar looks like he's going to win all of them, I think that that tells us that this sort of blue wave we thought might emerge isn't going to emerge the same way. So, Professor. How do you think the Senate will shake out is there in fact, you know the market's kind of suggesting here today that a blue wave may in fact be in the cards? How do you think that might go in the Senate? That that that's a great question, Paul because you think about the Senate, and you think you know Mitch McConnell is totally immune. This time, you would have thought if there's a big blue wave. You know, The guy has really been the poster boy for the campaign against the Republicans controlling the Senator Mitch McConnell. He's goingto probably breeze to reelection, some a little suspicious of that big blue way for the Senate. Iowa looks neck and neck. You know, we had a recent poll. That's very credible that looks like Joni Ernst can pull it out and stay. You know if Cal Cunningham can win in North Carolina That suggests probably that the Democrats might get 51. If they can win Maine as well. Probably away in Arizona. Probably gonna win Colorado and lose Alabama, so they're looking at probably minimally a 51 49 Republican, or 50, 50 51 49 Democrats. So I think that's where they you know, we don't know. And I think that's where North Carolina becomes so important, even even if we don't know by Trump. You know, it's Cal Cunningham looks like he's really gonna win that race that suggest better things. The Democrats across the board for the Senate Say some of that again. When do you say Arizona is definitely going to go Democrat Texas? What did you say about Texas? And then also, I think, Arizona for Mark Kelly. I think he's been polling very consistently ahead of Martha makes alley. But you can imagine, let's say people voting for more. Kelly, a former astronaut. You know and not voting for Joe Biden. You know, voting for Kelly because they want him over more than Sally and they voted for Trump in Arizona. You didn't see the Democrats winning Senate in Arizona but not winning the presidential race. Then Texas is, you know, shocking right? The turnout in Texas has been absolutely shocking. And but it looks like John Cornyn comfortably ahead of head guard that the challenger there, But I think the issue is that Trump is only basically one point ahead in Texas, which is just you know, if you think about politics, just stunning. Same with Georgia. George will be interesting because it does not get 50% or more against us off. Then you've got to run off elections in Georgia in January, and I think that's really going to be some interesting voting dynamics, so it's possible the Senate Democrats could ultimately end up with a 51 of 52 majority, but I still think it's a bit of a long shot. So Professor if the presidential election becomes contested, what is your kind of base case for how it may play out? I think we could be faced with an unprecedented historic situation. I think you know if we have a tie, for example, if in the Electoral College in December's actually a tie, it goes to the newly elected house, which is expected Thio more Democratic. However, the Republicans still control more votes in state delegations than the Democrats, and that's Probably isn't going to change so you could conceivably have literally the house electing a re electing President Trump but in the Senate. If it's 51 49 with the new Senate and its new Democrats, then they may like Tomahawk. Advice. I mean, really, quite stunning. It's really stunning thing. So I think so many things have changed already in 2020 weather, Trump gets reelected or not, is obviously monumental. But even if he gets reelected, I think the Democrats have shown they know how to mobilize voters, and I think they've shown some of these states have changed a lot in terms of demographics, and they are going to be more competitive, moving forward. Which changes the nature of politics going to 2022. If we know that politicians look at the next election the minute this election is over, and so when we start to think about what the balance of power might be in the Senate house in 2022 these gains the Democrats appear to be making among voters in the states. Changes a lot of dynamics, which will probably change some of the policies coming out of Congress. Yeah, I mean, it's really the African American gold, right, Wendy and how much more of that will see? We're already seeing, you know, a lot more engagement. Yeah. So I think African American who has always been key in North Carolina and Georgia had about 64% African American turnout in 2016. It wasn't enough because those numbers were not hit in in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania among African American voters, and they, you know they may or may not get there. If they get there, I think Biden winds relatively easily. But what's interesting is suburban white women. Of all educational levels seem to be really vehemently at the moment against Trump in the polls, and it could be that instead of the black vote really being key in the Midwest, it ends up being white women. Which would be really interesting shift, you know, mirrors 2018 when white, the majority of white women voted for democratic candidates, But it would change the nature of the Democratic coalition. If that were the deciding factor, So that's what I'm looking for. I'm looking for turnout, particularly in particular counties in Michigan. Well, we still have. A lot of people are gonna vote in person and certainly in Pennsylvania when you were really out of time. But I am desperate to
Election 2020: Arizona's impact
"Of election 2020 continues our race. Our state will the side the direction of the country for the White House and the Senate majority. That was Republican Senator Martha McSally on with Arizona's Morning news Friday, and this morning, we caught up with her Democratic challenger on Election Day Eve. There's Jeremy Foster joins us live with more on what Mark Kelly had to say. One of the first things we asked Mark Kelly Jamie in a race where polls have consistently showed him in the lead there now tightening, in fact, a brand new Data orbital poll of 550 likely Arizona voters out this morning show Kelly just 1% point ahead of MK Sally Now. Two weeks ago, the same polls showed him up over six points. But Kelly told us he's still confident. Think the only Poles that really matters when folks go to the polls tomorrow, and when they count the votes, and that might take might be done tomorrow might take a couple days. I feel pretty good. Something else. Kelly and other Democrats may be keeping an eye on Republicans of return nearly 45,000 more ballots in Maricopa County than Democrats so far on the early voting side and about 90,000 Mohr than those who are not registered with either party. But Kelly points out that a lot of support from Republicans, including former elected officials, I have the Republicans for you know Mark Kelly for Senate Group. He also words folks to be patient. If we don't see the final results on Election day, and you can tune in all day for special election team coverage right here on our and we'll begin it tomorrow at five. AM I tell you, this is going to be one watch because the Republicans have come from behind to now lead with the number of ballots already returned and their also expected to turn out Maur enforce the Democrats at the actual voting booth tomorrow, so this is really going to be one to watch it is and we we heard from the Steve Cortes with the Trump campaign today. He's in there feeling increasingly confident about taking Arizona. All right. Thank you so much. Kate. There's Jeremy Foster.
Arizona Senate candidate Kelly spokesman called police ‘Worthless F–ing Pigs’ before joining race
"Mark Kelly. Hired a spokesperson on August 24th a new guy, TJ LaRue. Whatever his name is. Turns out eight days before that, this tea jailer hurl a ruler who, whatever his name is Hey, tweeted out that Chicago Police are worthless Effing pigs so tweets that August 16th eight days later, he's officially hired by Mark Kelly. Oh, and now this TJ guy has locked everyone out of his Twitter account is totally private. So ah, we will see what happens Market. "Mark Kelly, an astronaut, but after he left NASA, Mark Kelly made millions from one shady, sleazy deal after another exploiting others in the Process. Mark Kelly starred in a sexist marketing campaign selling flashing watches using scantily clad women as props. We talked to really Arizona women. Here's Rochelle from Gilbert. Wow, that's pretty sexist. I expected more from Mark Kelly. What are other women saying about Mark Kelly listened to Margo from Mesa. Mark Kelly got rich sitting on the board of a restaurant company accused of sexual harassment. That's not all Kelly's company did. Here's were shell, they forced women to sign away their right. To be able to sue for sexual harassment. What did Vanessa from Gilbert have to say? It makes me think Mark Kelly will really do anything for a dollar. Mark Kelly is for Mark Kelly, not US. We're getting on the phones were going to go to Detroit, Michigan got Sean on the line. Shauna. How can John and I'll help you? Find her and such an earlier to talk to you both. Well, thank you. What's on your mind today? Well, my husband is Like miserable at his current job, and Yes and he, but he just received a tentative job, other or his dream job, he says. It's within the same agency. But We would have to relocate and they will not tell us where until they give us the final offer, and then we only have 48 hours. Oh, my Okay. Hold on. It's his dream job. What is this dream job for the CIA or something? Well, he told me I couldn't be Too specific, but he doesn't work for the federal government. OK, I was right. You're a man with John. People repelling down through the roof. Yeah, right. But I didn't say them letters. But here's so once you find a you don't know where it is. Once you do find out where you've got 48 hours to decide. Yeah, OK, there's like way more. Jonah. Jonah, Listen, Listen, Jonah. That's not the problem. I heard in your voice when you said This is his dream job, So he says, You don't believe him. You know, I'm sorry I do. I do believe him. I I do believe him. I do. So why do you struggle with getting on board? Okay, well, so there's a lot just bear with me. Okay, so if he takes the position at first, there is a pretty significant pay cut. After 90 days he would be back to his current salary. I also heard full time and my appearance here in Michigan can watch our babies. So, obviously when we reel, Okay, I would lose my salary and I would stay at home with the babies. I have been looking at you and you like work for one job. I don't really know how realistic that is with A two year old and four year old running around, but You know, um We are currently in baby Step number two. We own a home now, and it's beautiful and I love it. It's um But when we know we are in baby steps so we wouldn't be able to purchase a home right away. When we moved down there. We are committed to the Ramsey plans. And so we have a long way to go and I just feel like Right now. We are not financially ready to be a single income family, and we're like Two years, maybe 20 years away from being that free and You know, having our emergency fund and I think that's like when it would be amazing to those and relocate and do all the wonderful things. But he is He's so miserable and job. He loves his family, life and everything, but he just Can't he just go unhappy with how long has he been doing this job, Sean? Well, he's been Doing the job for nine years, but he just currently went to this. He's been in this position for five years, and so has he been miserable for five or for the last five months? No, it's been The first day. He was like, Oh, man. So Shauna, this is Jonah. This isn't a math problem, And this is not a baby steps problem or in two years, this would be a great time. My wife and I took a $70,000 household income pay cut because I wasn't well. It wasn't the right job for me in the right season. Within six months we moved to a new town. I started a new job. And we begin a trajectory now financially that neither of us could have ever wrapped our head around. Our marriage is in a place we never could have wrapped her head around. So that's not the issue. The issue sounds like it's a values issue. That you love your house. You love your family, and you love the security. You love the idea of a plan. And you got a husband who has been grinding it out. As you said, five years, nine years in a job that he hates to support you guys And if somebody finally tapped him on the shoulder And he's now in a position to choose between. Ah, a wife who loves the security in the planning her family, which isn't a bad thing. This is all good stuff versus Oh, my cash Me and I could actually breathe at work. And so you're gonna have to have a long term values conversation. It is not about math right now. It's not about staying on the plan or off. It's bigger than that. This is a Who are we going to be? Is it going to be six months is going to be a year is going to 2.5 years and that's a much bigger conversation that I'm gonna steal this from a friend Chris Hogan here. That's a dream in an HD question. What we want five years to look like from now what we want three years. Who's at that table where our kids What am I doing professionally? Where you doing professionally? That's way bigger than a math problem, And that's not something to be had when he comes home from work, and we got.
Martha McSally to debate Mark Kelly with Supreme Court future on line
"Martha McSally, Democratic challenger Mark Kelly Duke it out this evening, and they're only scheduled debate before the November election. A New York Times Sienna College poll published yesterday. It's Kelly ahead by nine points. But an ABC News Washington Post poll last week had the two in a virtual tie. The University

So he was hanging out with the Chai calms strike and business deals while he was a member of the Navy. And he wants to be senator. He's got business dealings with the chai calms. "Captain Mark Kelly when we come back. Tomorrow Comedy Superstar Chris Rock is live to talk about how he saw America's racial reckoning coming years ago and why he says starring in the new season of Fargo is the best role he's ever had. Hey we're back with catching Mark Kelly Megan. Yes captain. Kelly. So a couple of years ago it would have been absolutely inconceivable to me that Arizona which has been represented by Republican senators for over thirty years and has voted Republican in every single presidential election except one in one, thousand, nine, hundred, fifty, two that the state has the potential of going entirely blue this election cycle of the polls indicate that seems. More than likely heading way, what do you attribute the shift to you because it's really been fascinating to watch? Well first of all, I don't know who hands out the colors there must be in Washington DC that does that does that but I think Arizonans really like independent leadership folks that are willing to work across the aisle to get things done for for Arizona, and the American people. Your Dad did that Barry Goldwater there are a lot of examples and I think they want change I mean there were really worried about their healthcare worried about social security they're worried about Medicare becoming bowker program, and so many other things climate issues here. Border Security Issues, and often Washington has been failing the state of Arizona on these issues. So I think they're just looking for change and independent leadership. Captain, we've seen an increased focus on issues of social justice and police brutality in the run-up to the election president trump has been using. An order as a campaign pitch and also sending in federal troops. And arresting protesters. Now, some have also been supporting what's come to be known as defunding the police, but which is really diverting some funding to other programs such as mental health programs and things like that. Now, you are the son of two police officers, where do you come down on that issue? Yeah I am not in favor of defending the police and sunny like you said both my parents were cops but it was really my mom and her her journey from going from being a secretary to a police officer that really inspired me got me working harder but I think we can all agree that there's racial discrimination in our country that has resulted in. Too. Many black men being killed by the police so where I don't think defunding the police is the answer. Police officers have a very difficult job to do. I saw that with my own parents so they need to have the resources to do that job, but reforms are needed and necessary, and there there are. There's a lot that can be done with regards to independent the Vet Investigations and oversight and accountability and a lot of other things. But I think the larger issue is you know that the ZIP code you're born in shouldn't. Shouldn't be what determines your educational outcome or the kind of healthcare. You get your success in life, and this is a really challenging moment for our country right now and I think it's important that we get leadership that can. Find some common ground and unite us instead of divide us. Night well to that point over the summer Arizona stood out as one of the world's worst corona virus hotspots hospitals was so overwhelmed that the state had to let doctors prioritize which patients to treat based on their likelihood of survival. Now, Donald Trump, has taken no responsibility for the now two hundred thousand deaths projected to double by January practically of the virus just the other day and we heard him give himself an a plus for the way he handled it. Do you do you agree with that assessment? So? Well Joe I. Think you know I care a lot about science data and math. In facts and. The math is pretty clear on this. We have four percent of the world's population and I think twenty two percent of the Taliban from covid nineteen. So that metric really speaks for itself and we have not done a good job. I'd say we'd done a very poor job, and if you just go back to February when the administration wasn't sharing the information with the American people I think Arizonans, really would have liked to have that information that this was airborne that it was very fatal. I don't know Americans to panic. That's one of the reasons they gave. I can't think in anywhere in our history where we've panicked when presented with a with a challenge like this. So we missed a lot of time and because of that, that's the situation we're in right now and I do believe we we need leadership that's GonNa find us a path forward listen to the public health officials and come up with a national plan on testing and contact tracing. We still don't have that and we've been at this now for about eight nine months. You know what? Kevin Kelley Arizona would be very fortunate to have. You are thanks to Captain Mark Kelly. We will be right back..

"Senate candidate and former astronaut Mark Kelly is live to talk about how his victory could be a spoiler for the president's Scotus pick plus how he differs with many Democrats on hot topics like defunding the police and the green new deal. Still Ahead these in marrow talk about how they're running with the police changed after they got famous and share other life. From the Bronx. Hey Welcome back Mark Kelly is an amazing man not only was he an astronaut, but he is running for a Senate seat in Arizona which could impact. You know who's plans to fill justice GINSBURG seat on the Supreme Court. So please welcome Captain Mark Kelly Hey welcome back. Well, it's great to be back. Thank you for the invitation. Excellent. Now, we've been talking about the amazing woman with Gins Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and I know she had an impact particularly on women throughout the country. You the fabulous Gabby giffords your wife. Have some connection in a way to her? Can you talk about that a little bit? Well. I will say that Friday was a very sad day for both Gabby and me, but especially for Gabby RPG was like her ultimate hero, I'll never forget. The day that we got an opportunity to meet her and I think people realize that Gabby has suffered. A. Little Bit of challenging. Walk. Walking from her. Traumatic brain injury and our BG was in the room and Gabby leaped out of her seat I. Don't think I've ever seen her move so fast in the last ten years. To have an opportunity to to be it was pretty special moment. Have to say her her her her life and I I have two daughters and what that means for them with regards to women's rights and and and civil rights. She. was just such such an icon and Friday was a sad day for the country. Absolutely, Kevin Kelly the loss of Justice Ginsburg has led to a massive clash over replacing her on the Supreme Court and you found yourself in the middle of it because if the confirmation process gets pushed past the election and you win your race, you could be seated in the Senate in time to vote have you given any thought to this scenario? Well I've I've given a little bit of thought I think what's Important recognized is that this is to complete. The term of Senator John McCain. So regardless of WHO WINS Once, the vote is certified here in Arizona, in accordance with the law that person should be promptly seated to to work for Arizonans, we have incredibly challenging issues we're facing here and I think Arizona's ready for some independent leadership. They're concerned about healthcare pre existing conditions they're concerned about protecting social security and Medicare so. In accordance with the law when the election is done. I, it's important that if I was to win get sworn to sworn in. Captain there have been caused by Democrats to fight back hard if the Senate moves ahead with confirming a trump appointee, there's talk of expanding the court in the future or perhaps even doing away with the Filibuster, which as you know, Republicans have sort of politicized by using it to obstruct President Obama's agenda compromising the affordable care act among other things. Where do you stand on this? Would that be the right tactic? I don't think so I mean this, this should really shouldn't be part of the discussion these. It's also very hypothetical and it's kind of more of the same stuff from a broken Washington I. Think they should be focused on is how about a cove relief? Bill These threats are not. What Washington should be focused on? At this time, Republicans and Democrats should be really focused on trying to solve this crisis. So so Cindy McCain. Let's talk about Sunday. She gave a big endorsement to Joe. Biden I saw her on TV this morning. She's very popular figure in state of Arizona. How big of an impact do you think that endorsement will actually have on voters in Arizona? Do you think it will make a difference to you? Well I. Think it's the best endorsement anybody who get in Arizona. Senator John McCain Megan's dad was a hero of mine especially when I was a young pilot and also through my entire career as an astronaut I very honored to have the opportunity to meet him and. And and get to know him and call him a friend. So four, the vice president to have Cindy McCain's endorsement I. Think I think is a really I think it's significant but I'm not an expert on these things. I'm not a politician. But I think folks really ready for change and I. my sense is that that will have a big impact here. Well Captain Kelly this. All feels very familiar. We're talking about my mother and my father and my home state and I'm very very homesick right now. So jealous in Tucson but we're living in a uniquely divisive aged and I really respect that you have made it a signature issue tremaine independent thinker who crosses the aisle and can work with people on both sides. I think it's really important and I, think it's really important for Arizona. Can you just give me an example of an issue that you can see crossing the aisle to work with President Trump and other Republicans on Well. Infrastructure That's something our country really needs especially here in. Arizona. Megan is you know we have twenty two travel communities they're really suffering they need roads and and better criminal justice facilities and schools often need to be you know many of them need to be rebuilt. I visited a lot of these school so infrastructure would be. At the top of the list president also talks about addressing the issue of the price of prescription medication. So I totally be onboard working with him on that and and for me, it doesn't matter if any ideas idea from a Democrat or Republican. If it's a good idea, I will work with anybody if it's in the best interest of our state and the best interest of our country. Well. You know you could come work with us at some point to now you're going to be here for a little wild, but I'm just saying I liked the way more with.

"And welcome back we're talking about you know the you know who's rallies and the debates and we were just about to go to Megan. So Megan, what's your thought on all of this? Well several thoughts. The first is that both of them have to switch roles and switch personas in this debate, Biden has to come out looking really tough and strong, and like he cares about public safety and like the radical examples that president trump using an Israeli have not taken over the party and it's a safe space and the Democratic Party for moderates trump on the other hand has to look like a normal compassionate empathetic human being whether or not. He's capable of doing that I don't know because he hasn't been very active with that so far it's true. He has to get some of what Joe Biden has looked like he's empathizing with pain. He's done a really poor job especially with. The coronavirus people over the age of sixty. He's losing voters in this demographic and at an astounding rate and I believe it's because they probably look at him and see a president who maybe doesn't care if they die from corona virus interestingly enough there's an ABC Washington Post poll that came out this morning that's talking about how Florida and Arizona are complete statistical tie and that Hillary. Clinton. Actually had Biden had half of Hillary Clinton's support right now of the Hispanic vote in Florida he is leading Hispanic voters. So I'm not enough of a political strategist understand the ABC employers today, and again if I were Joe Biden, I would really be focusing on this demographic cannot afford to lose it in Florida. And I WANNA make a couple of things as. There's. There are no there's no proof that Biden had any plastic surgery. It's kind of like have people saying you know who had plugs done to his hair you know there's no proof of that either. I just think Joe did swampy. Why think clock songs in his hair? It's I. Don't care if they did. So, just saying that I'm just I'm just trying to do what the lawyer people asked me to do. You know that he had stuff done. So that's what that's what they said. That's what I'm telling you. You know the hardest thing for me when I watch this is I think all those people standing in that crowd those thousands of people a great many of them are second. Second. From parents who came there who then because that's what I'm saying second generation. Emigrants. So the idea that they would do or laugh at anybody else who is an immigrant who actually came here to this country because she? This was a better life, her family believe this would be a better life for her and now look at what she's doing. So I don't understand that and I also. Weary of him taking potshots at people because all joe needs to say is yeah, I mean look sleepy I may be sleepy but I didn't let two hundred thousand people die. In the middle of a pandemic. Yeah but it looks like Kovic Palooza doesn't it? I mean no mass no social distancing. Together and Donald Trump doesn't care. He doesn't care. He's actually still downplaying and he's that. Not that many people are vulnerable I know people who have died from the corona virus those people. Why do they keep following him? Why do they keep following him? Everybody knows what you just said is true. Well, we'll. Go to that masks we'll be another tribal politics. Told you joy the best way to explain trump is for conservatives and Republicans he said, they hate you. I'm just in the way it's still the most effective message I know. But why do they their lives Meghan? This is that I don't understand why they came ten. But beyond that when Whoopi said the thing about taking potshots a one thing that I have a hard time watching is when you go to name calling or ad Hominem sir, attacking the person on the other side you you're not making a point you're not winning any arguments and I'm sure you tell your toddler that Sarah I mean it's like type of stuff we learned when we're five exactly. So there was a message to your somewhere that when you have nothing to defend, you just go after the person and that's all I. Think. It works for trump. It works for trump all the name calling that he does work for him and his his base they like it because they would like to do the same the. So yeah, I wear. That's the that's the thing. A lot of people. Feel like they are powerless they have no power but you know what the great equalizer has been because the COVID nineteen virus kill. Black People White People Asian people. It doesn't care who you vote for Herman. CAIN learned that lesson and it was not a good one. A whole bunch of people who didn't really who don't realize is that you going out like that is only really going to come back and bite you because if you go home and take somebody out because you were smart enough to put a mask on he's not you can't sue him. You can't sue the guy in the white. House that's on you. If you go home and somebody dies on your watch, that's one you. See that's the thing. That's what you WANNA avoid. You don't want to carry stuff on but I guess y'all who are out there thinking doesn't matter. Will you know we'll see how you do in the upcoming days we'll be right back..

"Every single day just heard about that in the news center ring other conservative circus. We have senator, Martha mcsally senator. You have recently introduced the number, a number of bills that I find very appealing. Can you talk to us about the Boarder Tunnel Bill? Yeah. Absolutely. didn't t I hope you're well You know if people recall we uncovered a pretty sophisticated tunnel and huma most sophisticated of its kind isn't the first where the cartels will you know dig underneath they'll have A. You know a rail system and air system, and then there's moving drugs underneath and so working. With Daddy, LASCA who introduces us in the house This is providing focus effort for counter tunneling strategy for homeland security. Now, look this is in addition to the border wall was down there at the construction and service on Saturday it's going to make a huge difference. It already is making a difference, but the cartels are well resourced. So we need this counter tunneling capabilities our. Strategy Intelligence in order to go after this, and by the way you know who have a lot of experience in this Israel So in the past, we've also put some things in his defense bill about working at Israel on counter tunneling. You know you're right about that and these tunnels especially when you're referring to I mean when you talk about state of the art, they had air conditioning they even at restaurants down there, they ask stuff where you could kind of. Gone off for a while and the news comes up but then we really rarely find anything really being done about it. I suspect there are a lot of networks down their network of tunnels that wasn't the only one. So this is a bill that's going to. Give the trump administration some leverage when it comes to battling the cartels way. That's that's fantastic. Yesterday second lady pence was in town to talk about occupational licensing reforms and in order to help our military families and also here that you're working on a bill addressing that very issue..

"Mark Kelly was on his Democratic Candidate for the U. S. Senate joins us now on Arizona's Morning news. Happy fourth Mark. Thank you so much for your service to our country and to an agency that's near and dear to my heart. My dad works for the Johnson Space Centre has for the better part of the last four decades. And I do want to talk about space because there is some news here actually on that front, but first Governor Ducey decided this week to re closed some businesses due to the spike in cases here. Now there's all kind of legal battles potential legal battles happening on going on right now. Did the governor do the right thing? Yeah. In this case. Yeah. I mean, initially. What if you go back to when we re opened the CDC. And the public health officials said. We should see two weeks of decreasing cases. That wasn't the case we re opened. We never got the virus the outbreak under control, so we've got to take some steps. It's unfortunate. You know, I know. Business owners are are suffering out there. Folks have lost their jobs, but we can't allow this to spiral out of control. But do you think that there has to be some sort of balance Because you know people losing their jobs that and then you know that the $600 from the feds is due to run out soon. So that can cause a whole other set of problems. Isn't there a way to do both? Absolutely on DH. That's where the focus needs to be right. So wearing a mask, especially when you're in public, especially inside in public, social distancing, washing your hands. We need great examples from leadership. We need it reinforced over and over again. 100% of Arizonans would do this and be and be consistent about it. We could flatten the curve and we could start getting this infection right now is upto 12.5% I was looking today. Ah positive tests and we could we could really start to turn that around. But it's going to take a commitment by everybody. Alright, We're talking to Mark Kelly, Democratic US candidate for the for the Senate seat in with Martha McSally 7.5 1,000,000 jobs. Added over the last two months, and that includes June's jobs numbers were nearly five million were added. I know 30 million or so were lost during the pandemic. But do you see this as a positive that that jobs are coming back right now? Do you feel good about where the economy is headed? Well, yeah, I mean, that's certainly a good thing. I mean, it's better than having more jobs lost, though I do worry about you know, with our hospital's getting I seeyou beds here at 90% capacity that the hospital start to get overloaded. The steps the governor had to take now, and the economic impact of this is it's It's substantial right and it's going to last for some time. We do need to focus on the economy. We've got a healthcare crisis that caused an economic crisis. Um on DH. Folks are really struggling out there and talk to business owners across the state, and they're just trying to keep their heads above water. They need help from the government. I'm really concerned with those folks that have recently unemployed who's as you mentioned their unemployment. Insurance is going to run out soon. We've got to make sure that they you know that they could put food on the table. So this this is this is unfortunately this is far from over. It's important that everybody take this incredibly seriously. I worry about this Fourth of July weekend here where we're starting. Mark more than 200 veterans sent a letter to Governor Ducey urging him to remove Confederate statues in the state. I'm asking you this because you are a veteran, Do you think that these Ah, these statues need to be removed? Yeah, I think, but I think it's up to the government to make that decision. So I understand, But there were those 200 veterans are coming from. I agree. I think it's ah, It's time we take these steps. I think each one of these statues need to be looked at. You know, Separately, who The person is what their role Wass as part of the Confederacy. Um many of these statues are, you know, leadership during the Confederacy that No, these, You know, folks, You know, we're treasonous to our government and lost. So I understand where they're all coming from. Mark Kelly, Democrat US Senate candidate from Arizona, joining us and you've endorsed Joe Biden for President Rasmussen poll out this week of likely voters showed almost 40% think that he has dementia 20% of Democrats on Wednesday, he said he's been tested constantly for cognitive decline. Are you at all concerned about his state of mind or health? Or do you think he's firing on all cylinders? I am not worried about that. I mean, I think Vice President Biden has demonstrated leadership and has the ability to lead this country in a very difficult time. We've got four months to the election election is about choices. And you know, it's clear to me that Vice President Biden is the best choice to be elected president of the United States here and this year it actually Election day exactly four months from today, and we had you on last month, and several polls had you up double digits on Senator McSally. New data Orbital pull out two days ago shows McSally now within seven. Are you happy with where your campaign is right now? Well, I've got a great team. We're working really hard. Unfortunately, things have have changed with the pandemic. But public health is our number One priority here. We want to be I want to be helpful. We don't wanna be part of the problem, so we don't do anything in person. We've got four months to go to the election Polls are obviously a snap shot in time. They're not always accurate, were focused on getting our message out. And and I'm you know, also focused on Understanding all the issues that Arizona faces. So if I am elected the United States Senate, I'll be ready to do the job on day. One mark last question, and it is that at the very beginning Ah, there's there's a push by Republican Congresswoman Debbie Lesko. Congressman Paul Go Start to get Space Force Command headquarters here in Peoria. Now you're a military veteran and space forces the six branch of the military and you're also a space veteran. Is that something you would like to see? It'll be fantastic and made it within the state. I don't know exactly where in the state the Oriana. We should. We should put it. I heard I heard that it was recommended that it would be put in Peoria. We have a lot of great options here. We also have a lot of A defense industry here with I'm very talented and capable defense contractors or work for second support this. It's a great idea. Um, a lot of this capability right now is at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, where a door at the station. But you know things can change. And I'd be an advocate for you know, little beings, the space force headquarters here to the state of Arizona. I think that's a good idea. All right, that's Democratic. U S Senate candidate for Arizona. Mark Kelly. Thank you so much for the time. We really appreciate it. Thanks again for your service to this country and have a happy fourth, OK? Yeah, You too, Jeremy. Thank you for having me on Alright. Take their likewise. All right, 7 50 on Arizona's morning news. Time to get back out to the Valley Chevy deal with traffic.

"Instantly late you'll start making discoveries from their ten billion historical records and forty six million family trees from people around the world so let's start with sunny shower started. I Hey guys. Are you ready Sunny. Okay okay so let's start with you. Your family tree on my heritage actually goes back several hundred years it does it does it does build a family tree for you. In fact anyone who watches the show knows how important culture and Heritage Archie rarely so let's dive in and take a look at your mom's side of the foul my gun. He actually found around your grandfather's birth certificate. Your grandfather's Agusto beddis warranty. That's a picture of him GRANDPA. He's looking handsome. Is Your Mom's dead. He was born in actually never got the chance to meet him. He was born in nineteen fourteen at Kayak. What they fifteen eighteen and Guardia. I knew that you can go back to visit the home where he was born and we have been in records in one thousand nine hundred eighty four at age twenty twenty. He was actually working on a US steamship called the mill Nakal now he messed. That's the ship where he worked. He worked in the mess serving food. So I know that UH foods that you love to cook I do where it was ingrained in your DNA from your Grandpa who actually worked serving food on the ship. Wow Now we also have your dad's bad side okay. I think what who knows you also. Important Education is too right okay so from the nineteen hundred census we found on your father's side your great grandparents. Eugene and Kerry Germany now in the nineteen thirty cents is they were living in Georgia and it shows that they were living there with their seven children now no one in the home with seven and children having children at the time. They went on to have more now. Your grandparents did not read or write and none of the school aged. Children were enrolled in school at that time but then there was a big shift in your a family because ten years later at this point your GRANDPA. Freddie was born in the nineteen forty census. Freddie is enrolled in school as well as younger siblings so there was a change between nineteen two thirty nine hundred forty. Your great grandparents were finally able to start educating. Their children. Look at pretty interesting pretty cool stuff. That's been one thing about joy your Italian Joy Italian ninety two percent. You are value reminds us home. She makes the Great Italian Lasagna well. I think we know where that came came from now because both sides your family your mom's and Dad's side we're both from southern. Italy collaborate which I believe you know but I think there's some things in here that you might not have known okay. Let's start with your Dad's side now. Your grandparents were from Columbia as I said but then they decided to move to northern Italy they actually went to Torino which is where your dad was born right now when they got to. Torino things didn't turn turn out as expected back then. Sometimes northerners didn't exactly embrace the southerners a welcome with open arms still dome. They still doubt. Your Dad was born in Torino in the Shirley after your I found decided to emigrate to the US we actually found a photo of the ship that they came over on its the Duca deadly a see that's a photo of the ship and not only that we actually actually found the Ellis Island records which shows your dad. Dad's name is Luigi Right Okay Luis Severino okay on this it shows his name as Luigi from the Italian and he was a year old and that's the Lsi so I could become an Italian citizen yeah. I think that you probably by for it right but anyway. It's pretty cool to have that documentation. When you're died under the country's truth of the story I know a little something my grand my grandfather from Torino came to Brooklyn and left the family behind there and then liked it so much in Brooklyn. He said I'm not coming back. My Grandmother said if you don't come back I'm going to kill myself and all the children that story on your data and my father's father I said okay. I'm coming back and he went back to Torino got everybody and then moved to Brooklyn. That's what I'd grandmother was a drama Queen as you can yeah. I love that so I come from a family who come from. I don't know a lot of history so I think we have a photo. Actually of this is actually just one side my dad's side. I'm one of fifty fifty. Five cousins come from recuse family so it's no wire that your family tree on my heritage actually has one hundred fifty one people on it and it goes back eight generations. I put put the seven kids was allowed to be a mormon was like h adoration in fact. We found some pretty cool stuff. We actually found on your Dad's side. Hide your five times great grandfather ready. That's great great great great great grandfather. His name was Kayla. Hey and he was born in seventeen seventy eight and Duchess County New York. We found his great stone that has a photo of him on it. How cool is that. He's got some pretty impressive sideburns. I'm not sure if that'd gone yeah. It's upstate New York but then it's pretty cool because then we know that your family actually went to Utah Utah so then we find your great grandfather exactly there was a covered wagon on that gravestone. I don't know if you saw that anyway. Your great great grandfather his name was Hector Caleb so he was born in Utah in eighteen sixty nine and he was a member of one of the most prominent families that early settlers. We found a photo of him. That's him there that is your great great grandfather and your great great grandmother and Clara not a sense of humor that was not passed yeah that is amazing you able to find with my family with the seven kids what their occupations were because it would seem to me that they weren't educated educate because they were slaves. Well actually it's interesting because it does not say that they were slave. Were sharecroppers. They were most likely sharecroppers and of course it was very likely back then that sharecroppers we're not able to educate their children but between nineteen thirty one thousand nine hundred forty your family circumstances change and the children were able to enroll in school and at one point in one thousand nine hundred fifteen people living under the same roof in that house with Great Britain amazing thing now I was GonNa say here are thanks to our sponsor my heritage rich and members of the audience yes you are going home with a year long subscription and right now. "Mark Kelly is the US Navy combat veteran who made international headlines for his pioneering missions as an astronaut and for being the husband of former congresswoman an American icon Gabby giffords who who was almost killed during her time in office now mark is stepping into politics looking father's old. Senate seats these joining us here at the table to tell us why please welcome got mark in China. We actually talked on the phone and you told me when you were announcing announcing you are running for Senate and I thought it was so classy and completely unneeded. I really appreciate the gesture but I think auto people know your wife as well because she's obviously famous congresswoman from Arizona. Why did you decide to jump into politics and follow in her footsteps. I will be let me say you know like Your Dad. I flew off of aircraft carrier as well as a young pilot. I really looked up to them a lot and you know when we were you know in sear school. Which is where they teach you how to be you know if you wind up being a pow you know he was like the model of how you honorably go through an impossible situation so you know it's not often we get to meet our heroes and it was it's even less on cobb and that you get to call him a friend someday and I got to do that. You know so that's why felt strong. I need to reach out. Elections are important. I mean they really are and you know if I've seen the you know the direction of our country over the last several years you know I think I have something the offer you know. I'm somebody who cares about independence in about science and data and the facts and don't always see that from Washington DC and we've some serious serious issues that we're facing the state of Arizona and they're not often being addressed in politics have become so divisive and and I hope to be not influenced by an corporation or political party and I think this is an important time for our country captain. Your family's been through a lot house scabby. Doing Gabby is doing great. You know she's she. She obviously has been through a lot. I mean she nearly died that day and had a fight back. You know just to survive and through Rehab. She's in a great mood. She does a lot of things she rides her bike she every year she does the this bike ride called the toward. Tucson and she'll do either twenty five or forty miles just to prepare for it ahead of time. She's going to a new gym and she works. She works really hard. Just remind people who shot at a political event does it. You're stepping now into her line of work and as you see on the show every day the Times our tents politically. Does it give you pause to step into that line of work after what she's been through yeah sure I mean there's you know you always got to evaluate the risk and the reward and the reward for me personally. It's like what does this mean to the country. Can I make a difference. I've done risky things. In the past you know I flew in combat over Iraq and Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm. I flew the space shuttle four times. I understand there's yeah there's risk did turn out though that my wife. Gabby giffords is the one who had the risky job so so we get that and Gabby one hundred percent behind me doing this because it is important so reasons that I'm glad you're doing this because as an astronaut I can ask skew about climate change because I assume that New York up there at the mall and up in the sky and you're looking down and seeing stuff and do you remember seeing the changes that the planet was going through and how fast it was happening. What did you see right so you although I when you get in the space on your first flight a couple hours later you get out of your seat you can look down the planet earth for the first time big round owned. Let me say that again. Round all your floating. They're all seven and a half billion of us. We live live on an island in our solar system. Big No mistake you know we've got no place else to go and between my first flight and my fourth one who has a decade a sliver in anti and I saw some changes in this planet specifically with like deforestation especially over the Amazon but other rainforests and that's a lot of carbon that comes up into you know that's been released into our atmosphere and it's going to heat up the planet we you know we've got to figure out a way to get from fossil fuels to more renewable energy and I think we've got a decade or so to figure this out but we can't continue to ten years. Oh Captain Kelly recently the chair of the GOP party in Arizona Kelli Ward wrote this in a fundraising email and forgive me for repeating it but she wrote will stop gun grabber Mark Kelly dead in his tracks. What did you think when you read that well. It's uncalled for. I think we can all do a better job being careful with the language we use. It's very political. I think she had purpose behind saying that you know I think we can all do better than this. They think it's not there's no place for that in our political discourse but that's outside of my control as somebody. Who's you know an astronaut. I try to focus on things. I have control over and you know I can't control what other people say. Let me ask you something about the gun control because after your wife Jeff Gabby was shot on you. Both became advocates for gun control but you're both gone under owners still What did you think of Beto or rock saying. We're going to buy back your guns. We want to take your guns rifles the Ar fifteen those those big rifles. Would you think of that well. I'm a gun owner. I'd probably own more guns than your average Arizona. You know I'm a strong supporter laugh about ten different things you know how to use I do. I firearms the One my dad gave me while I was in flight school. It's the gun I flew in combat with over Iraq. You know there are very common sense the things we can do that most Americans support most arizonans support like background checks for all gun sales red flag loss. You know stronger domestic violence legislation flation. This issue often affects men and women differently and I think we should focus on those things so you don't really agree with Beto not on at that point you okay Captain Kelly. What's fascinating to me as a obviously lifelong Arizona Arizona could turn blue this election cycle. If you win a Christianson tomorrow other senator is Democrat. She's she's very moderate and I have been very pleasantly surprised by the way she's governed but the DNC and Arizona's Arizona's China's central her because they don't think that she is basically liberal enough you are also. I think a moderate reasonable Democrat do you worry about the DMZ in Arizona. Having the same impression of you will always worry about both political parties trying to make sure that the person selected that they vote with them on every single thing. I think independence is so important independence from the political party speaking Abbey's thank you I'm alone on this but they're I call them like the silent majority out there as AFC calls us were Ma- Nah but we actually believe very strongly in our beliefs they just might not be one extreme or the other that's right. I think that's important so I didn't think that was appropriate thing to do would actually didn't happen. Um Yeah it didn't happen but what what is happening. Perhaps is we hear. The topic of the day is What about impeachment we. We heard Nancy Pelosi finally saying we're going to open up an official inquiry your take well before. I went into the Navy I soar an oath to support and defend the constitution of the United States president. Did that as well you know. I don't think it's a good idea to be having a conversation with a foreign leader about your political opponent is is it high crime or misdemeanor well. I think the rule of law is very important. I think the rule of law holds our democracy together so I think it's I think it's serious. It should be investigated gated. I think this is going to take some time. There's a lot of details that are still going to come out. I didn't have an opportunity to to read the transcript. Have it here yeah but I think this is. This is serious and you know we've got to work through the details and it's a process well captain passing Kelly. Thank you so much for coming and joining us on the view. Come back before the election. We'll show we're GONNA WANNA know more. Thank you so much again in our all our love to Gabby. Thank you so much. We'll be right back. Everyone's talking about the view. Five women are hosting the most politically relevant show onto the people come here because because they know folks are watching few Republican you WanNa Make News. Come on the show. I think you guys are credible way. They conversations matter. I think we can clean this up right now. Now I'm sorry she was treated the way she was treated. You know I think what she wants to say is. I'm sorry for the way I tweeted you not for the way you were treated and that's how the view became became the most important political TV show in America. It is raining candidates here on the new. I can't tell you how many times I was asked to find a way to get on the view you know that's the view on ABC tomorrow. The candidate who's running the wildest presidential campaign in the race. Andrew Yang is live on the view why he says his promises like a thousand bucks a month for for every American will have him crowd serving his way to the White House for hey welcome back to new book inside out to me more midst that she wanted Richard Fulfil the fantasies of her ex husband Ashton Kutcher so she agreed to have some threesomes but later on used to justify cheating on her and and this book is really hard to read. I think there's a lot of really tough stuff in it and so this sort of made me sad when i read it just because as you think you don't want people have to try to make their partner happy that way but I mean does it. Is that a was it a good thing for her. We we discussed this before but none of us have had. I've never had a threesome if I did it. One of them would have to know CPR. I'm I'm saying that that's where he never tried it. She never tried. You weren't there so I don't know about. I you know I I. I'm very jealous crazy person. If somebody tried would not go well for another like the one that would wait what these would be. Yes I am quiet. Hi It never happened. You'll never know I'm jealous and possessive in a bit crazy so feel like a wooden go well. You know what I would think. Am I not enough..
